It’s Father’s Day. (drabble!)

Life at the All-Stars Apartments weren’t exactly as lively as their Smash neighbors… but, they were usually much more lively than they were today! Most of the All-Stars stayed to themselves today. The atmosphere was eerily quiet. For War Veteran and newly promoted All-Star; Nathan Hale, this was unfamiliar territory. 

“ What’s with the radio-silence? “ he asked as he entered the lobby. The Lieutenant’s question seem to fall on deaf ears. No one dared look at or answer him. Suddenly, Colonel Radec uncloaked himself and spoke from behind Hale.

“ It is due to the Earth holiday. “ Hale swiftly turned around and grabbed Radec by his collar. The Colonel did not flinch. “ I suggest you remove your grip, Lieutenant. It would be a pity for me to have to kill you in front of everyone. “ Hale let go and briefly apologized. “ ...Sorry. I don’t do sneak attacks. “

“ The mark of a competent soldier. “ Radec replied fondly. “ Alright, alright. Back to the task at hand. You’re saying they’re all like this… because of a holiday? “ Radec nodded. “ Precisely. “ Hale placed his hand on his chin and thought to himself. “ What holiday is today? “

“ It’s Father’s Day. “ Sly answered. He approached the two All-Stars in plain sight. Usually calm, cool, and smug… today, Sly had a sullen look on his face. “ Most guys here… don’t know where their father’s are, have complicated relationships with them, or… have lost them. “ His ears immediately drooped. Hale’s eyebrows furrowed as the information sunk in. “ I’m sorry- “ Sly held up a hand and forced a smile. “ Hey- it’s uh, it’s fine. Just, give folks some space today, alright? “ Hale nodded. “ Understood. “ 

Sly tipped his hat and walked past the two towards the elevator. Once he was away inside the elevator, Sly’s façade faded. The thief pulled out a picture of him and his parents from when he was little, and stroked the picture gently. 

“ I love you, Dad… “ he said as the elevator doors closed.

As Hale stood silently, still thinking about the situation, Colonel Radec placed his arms behind his back and made one final comment. “ I cannot say I truly understand the severity of the matter. I lost my father to the likes of war years ago, and you do not see me sulking about it. “ Hale snarled and turned around towards Radec. “ Hey, you DON’T- “ however, as he turned around… Radec was gone.

Hale squinted at the empty space, then approached a few All-Stars sitting around a coffee table. It was Kratos, Jak with Daxter, Ratchet with Clank, and Heihachi. “ So… “ Hale spoke abruptly. “ Today’s hitting you all hard too, I presume? “ Silent nods were given as a response… except Heihachi. 

“ Not me. I want that pathetic son of mine DEAD and my demon of a father should STAY dead!! HAHAHA!! “ Everyone gave Heihachi a blank stare, and he simply crossed his arms with a smirk. Hale then turned towards the others. “ Anyone else wanna talk about this? “

 Kratos crossed his arms as well. “ I share a similar fate as Heihachi. I thought I was rid of father… yet he is bound to me within this realm. How I long to KILL him agai- “ 

“ Some of us MISS our fathers, y’know. “ Jak interrupted with a glare. Kratos merely scoffed. “ How fortunate… “ Hale turned towards Jak. “ What’s your story, kid? “ Jak sighed and leaned forwards. “ I never knew my father.  I grew up as an orphan. One day I met this man; Damas, he was the leader of a place called Spargus. He died… and it turned out he was my father. He didn’t get the chance to know who I really was when before he left. “ Ratchet placed a hand on Jak and he looked down. 

“ I never knew my parents either. “ Ratchet said. “ I crash landed on this planet called Veldin… all alone. No name, no parents. Turns out my species is all in an entire other dimension, hidden to survive extinction. “ The Lombax sighed, but as he did, he looked down to see Clank’s worried look. Once he saw his best friend, he couldn’t help but crack a smile.

 “ It’s funny… I still don’t know where they are, but I’ve met some incredible people in my life. In a way… It’s like I have my own family, y’know? “

Hale nodded and smiled. “ That’s how you ought to live, Ratchet. “ The Lombax nodded. “ So, what about you? This is your first Father’s Day here, anyways. What’s your story, Hale? “

The Lieutenant sat down silently. He placed his hands together as he spoke. “ I… never really got to know my parents. I lost both to illnesses when I was young. Then, I moved in with my Aunt… then I lost her. Finally, I was adopted by close friends of my Parents. I finally was apart of a family. Then… I was enlisted into the war. With everything going on, I wanted to fight. I haven’t seen any of them since joining... “

Hale was always very stoic, but as he found himself recollecting memories he hadn’t thought about in years… he began to cry. His surrounding All-Stars (even Heihachi and Kratos) knew the pain he was feeling, so they immediately lowered their own heads.

Suddenly, a familiar pup approached the group and handed each of them a flower. Each All-Star stared at Parappa in confusion as he moved. Ratchet was the first to ask, “ PaRappa? What’s with the flowers? “ Hale stared deeply at his tulip as Parappa spoke. 

“ Remember Father’s and Mother’s Day last year? Well, I felt bad that I was so happy to have parents to go home to… So, this year I wanted to give everyone something to help get through the day!! I know it’s not much but- “ 

“ These… were my adoptive parent’s favorite flowers. “ Hale said abruptly. Parappa began to worry. “ O-Oh, my bad! If you wanna have another flower you can- “ Suddenly, Hale hugged the little pup. “ Thanks, son. “ Parappa’s face lit up and he hugged the man back. “ You’re welcome!! “

“ I know a lot of the All-Stars here have a rough time with Mother’s and Father’s Day, but that’s okay!! I think it’s okay to miss your parents, and it’s okay to feel however you wanna! But, if I can make today any easier on anyone… I wanna help! If that means a gift, or leaving people alone to feel, then that’s what I’ll do! “

“ You’re a good kid, Parappa. “ Hale said with a light smile. “ Happy Father’s Day. Tell your old man hi for me, okay? “ Parappa nodded. “ I will! Thanks! Happy Father’s Day!! “

As Hale watched Parappa run off, he felt a sense of relief. He had been with the All-Stars for a while now, and they went from strangers he randomly ran into on a mission, to people he trusted enough to share deep feelings with. Just like Ratchet said, this was his family. 

For once, he didn’t have to worry about war or survival... he could think about his family... and embrace the new one he came to love. That made for the perfect Father’s Day gift for him.

March Hare AU

Hello guys, this is SonicAsura here! I have a new AU to share with you folks called the March Hare. Now this involves a concept I've recently uploaded: DigiEcho. You might want to check that out just in case since it does involve a bit of Digimon. For this particular AU, we'll be diving into the world of Jak and Daxter. This is a game series from my childhood but also one I have a bone to pick with for a variety of reasons.

It starts just a few months before Jak 2 and around the events of Daxter. Our hero, Jak, has just got done with another Dark Eco treatment. At this moment, he's once again near the cusp of breaking under the Baron's relentless torture. Jak is tired and he severely misses his old life especially his friends.

The young man is about to go to bed in his cell only to notice something strange. Static coming off his cell door. Jak barely has any time to react when a giant hologram of some strange rabbit emerged. Body constantly glitching and doesn't seem to be sentient. All it takes is Jak to touch this strange hologram for everything to go insane.

He had come in contact with a DigiEcho, specifically that of an Angoramon. Jak ends up transforming into a Haunted and with this new strength breaks out of prison. From here, he runs into Daxter who doesn't believe it's Jak at first before our newly cursed rabbit gives him proof.

The duo now reunited has to find the rest of their friends while fighting off those that wish them harm. Especially when a certain Kid ends up in Jak and Daxter's care alongside the secrets that will tear apart everything they know.

The line between friends n foes now blend, loyalties are tested, new powers are unleashed that Jak must master as the Baron closes in. Sometimes all it takes is a rabbit foot to break the chains of destiny.

Jak and Daxter

I found this nice little Q&A thing on Deviant Art from @Briizyleaves. I am a little Jak and Daxter nerd so here we go. :p

1.       How did you discover Jak and Daxter? I was a kid basically. It was especially when I received my very first Playstation 2 from a close friend/family member and he automatically gifted me this game of Jak and Daxter Precursor Legacy and as soon as I started playing it, I raged from the platforming I had to do. XD

  2.       Which game is your favorite? I’m doubting between the first game: The Precursor Legacy and Jak 3. Funny enough, before I ever played the hardcore Jak 2, I received Jak 3 first which was funny. I was curious on how it was possible that he first game of platforming and happy worlds turned into this apocalyptic badass shooting game in the first place, so I couldn’t wait to get Jak 2 and played Jak 3 first. yet it didn’t ruin the storyline much. I was like ten back then and I couldn’t read English well anyway XD

   3.       Which game is your least favorite? The Lost Frontier. Because Naughty Dog claimed to end the series after Jak X Combat Racing so High Impact Games took over and made this mess....

   4.       Who is your favorite character? Jak. He has his badass aspects and just this cool super Saiyan like style to it.

  5.       Who is your least favorite character? I have a few characters I didn’t like, but if I had to choose one, I’d go with Count Vegar for being an ass to everyone!

   6.       What mission do you love most?  From Jak 2: I loved the Forest Levels as they reminded me back to the first game where colourful nature took place and exploration. But also the Tomb of Mar. I loved the puzzles I had to complete. From Jak 3, Oh, boy, I loved the Temple levels and the one at the Catacombs. Very mystical, dark and gives you a sense of the remains of mankind. And from the first game, I loved Spider Cave the most. Yup... THAT level. And to be fair, I did enjoy the ring mission in Jak 3 in the forest xd

   7.       What mission do you hate most? Shooting the swamp lurker rats from the first game. From Jak 2, I hated the mission where I had to outrun the guards whilst trying to get o the other side in the destroyed part of the city above the water, and I especially hated the level with the KG robots that I had to take out whilst the guards were after me too! Going through very small streets and crashing into other zoomers sucked!!! And from Jak 3, I mostly hated the desert level where I had to save these wastelanders from the storm. As a kid, I lost this level too many times! I just hated to race in a desert full of hills and Marrauder shooters after you whilst your vehicle keeps slipping and tumbling over. Especially when time ticked!

    8.       Who is your favorite couple? Ashelin and Torn, but actually sneakily Ashelin and Jak, cos at the end of Jak 3, whew it got hot! The best friend couples would be Jak and Daxter.

   9.       What is your favorite weapon? The Beam reflector seemed to be too much of an easy enjoyment. There was no challenge to it, so I will have to go with the Pace Maker and the Grenade Launcher. The Super Nova was a bit.... too strong....

   10.   Do you believe Jak is THE mar? There were loads of arguments on this and there still are, but I think Jak could only be Mar (spoilers btw) because he met the Precursors at the end of Jak 3, and despite the time traveling madness of when the Precursors poke about  legendary hero who saved the world. I wouldn’t believe it otherwise because of the lack of the correct storytelling n the Jak and Daxter franchise. I never saw Jak being an engineer, building the Tombs and such... I more of see him as a battling maniac that can race and blast Metalheads. He could be an offspring of Mar or an ancestor, but Mar was supposed to be just a name Damas gave his son before he lost him by Vegar and the great war in the world.

   11.   Which eco is your favorite? The Dark, badass Eco from Jak 2 and 3, especially.

   12.   Who is your favorite Precursor? Towards the end of Jak 3, we see a little... plot twist of ottsels being the Precusors (yeah spoiler alert). It was funny and all but I cannot believe ottsels were the true Precursors who formed eco. In fact if they were, Jak would have turned into it falling into dark eco, or at least, dark eco would have turned daxter into a dark maker in the first game. You see, the storyline is very confusing and eventually felt like being thrown away. If I had to choose between the ottsels who stood there telling they were Precursors, I'd go with Daxter I guess... If Jak 4 ever happens, I hope the storymakers will continue to solve the puzzles for us.

   13.   Who is your favorite citizen? The true citizens were literally boring decoration... If you mean from haven City... Only those who played a part into the story in Jak 2 and 3 weren't really just citizens, but if I had to go for one... I'd go choose Tess?

   14.   Do you like The Lost Frontier? No way... I played it and it could have had potential if it weren't given to High Impact games, AND if it weren't just a flight/shooter game with bad dialogue and overall bad gameplay. WHO TURNS DAXTER INTO A MONSTER, COME ON?!

  15.   Preferred Wasteland vehicle? Dune Hopper XD Cos I could just jynx those stupid hills and fly!

   16.   How often do you use the hoverboard? Like all the time. I even tried to do silly tricks, and glitched over some buildings in the desert XD. It was insane being chased by the Marrauders when you have a boost on your hoverboard by unlocking it with your secrets.

   17.   Dark Jak or Light Jak? Both were awesome.

  18.   What is your favorite location? From Jak 1? A lot go with Sentinal Beach. I'd say, I liked it too despite the fact it was easily finished. But if I had to pick another one beside it, give me Snowy Mountain.

   19.   Ever collected all orbs in Jak 2 or Jak 3? In Jak 1, yes, but Jak 2 and 3? Jak 2 is still a pain, my God... Jak 3 is getting there, but still not quite by certain side missions ….

   20.   Which moment shocked you the most? Um... the ottsels being the Precursors and Damas dying and being Jak's father. Holy crap I cried seeing that scene ! (SPOILERS!!)

   21.   Which opening/ending is your favorite? The opening of the first game, second game, the ending of the first game and the ending of the third game, the end boss taken along. ;)

   22.   What are your favorite quotes? Daxter: “Are you gonna keep yappin', or are you going to get me out of this mess?” “Hey, baby, what do you think we have some fun and get cruizin'?” All Daxter Yacow quotes. Daxter saying “WEIRDOOOO!” towards the end of the first game. “Uh, we won't find any more of that Dark-gooey-Eco stuff in there, will we? Cuz I'd hate to fall in again and turn into you!” Man, and what was worse than those Death monologues from Daxter when Jak died XD. “I was right behind you. Really... I was” LOL, and I laughed at the Rock village part when Samos and Keira entered Blue Sage's lab and Samos said: “It seems he threw a party!” Keira said: “Oh, my, rock village is on fire!” Samos: “One heck of a party!” Yellow Sage: “Who woulda thought I'd live to see the day I had to be rescued by a boy and his muskrat? I'm gonna give Gol and Maia a little payback for these embarrassments! Then we'll see about cookin' up some muskrat stew.” Daxter chokes in fear

   23.   Toughest and easiest boss battle? Touchest: the ones from the first game when I was a kid. I sucked beating Klaw, that plant, and the end boss: Gol and Maya...Now, they're quite easy. Towards Jak 2, the hardest boss battle was the one against Erol racing and of course the one fighting Baron Braxis when he was in that robo suit on the roof. Easiest Jak 2 is claimed to be the end boss with Kor and it is....  And towards Jak 3, the toughest one had to be the one against Erol towards the ending.

   24.   Ever just go on a KG killing spree? Yes, all the damn time, because why not.

   25.   Favorite Jak and Daxter fan art? Not really. I did see some nice artists on youtube and dveiant art doing a great job portraying Jak and Daxter in their styles though.

  26.   Who is your favorite sage? That crazy Yellow one, saying he wanted some nice muskrat steak. XD That had to be a very funny quote as well.

   27.   What is your favorite secret? Jak being Mar. Ha ha, or did you mean from the menu in Jak 2 and 3? Well, I really liked the unlimited ammo one xd

   28.   Do you like Jak X: Combat Racing? I kinda liked it, especially dropping bombs and blowing people up just like in Shrek' racing game XD I always cracked up hearing them get angry whenever I got them and they'd try to attack me back. I also loved gearing up my vehicles.

   29.   Would you like to see another game? Sure, if it was made by NaughtyDog... Or at least a company that knows the Jak and Daxter franchise just like the ones who made Daxter for the PSP! They at least knew the story!

Polygon Man raised a polygonal eyebrow towards the spunky dragon. They had brought up some interesting reasons for a possible inclusion, and it wasn’t everyday that someone actually ASKED to be added to his roster. After some thought, the head nodded.

“ Hmm, perhaps you require some further research, after all. In that case... “ The head turned towards the two All-Stars that were besides him. “ JAK AND DAXTER, you two shall observe this Dragon for me. I’ll keep a close eye on your activity, then decide if he is worthy to join our All-Stars! “

The two heroes weren’t exactly thrilled to hear their new positions. Daxter specifically leaped off of Jak’s shoulder and shouted towards Polygon Man. 

“ WHAT? We ain’t no babysitters, blocky! “ 

“ What’s in it for us? “ Jak said, bluntly.

“ Is my esteemed adoration, not enough? “

“ Not at all. C’mon Dax, let’s go. “

Daxter leaped back onto Jak’s shoulder, and the two began to leave Polygon Man’s sight. As they were however... the polygonal head smiled smugly towards them.

“ Go ahead gentlemen, leave. But, I wouldn’t expect your friends to be waiting for you at the Apartments. I’m sure they wouldn’t mind a permanent ban from the complex! Never seeing their dear Jak again... “

Jak stood to a halt. He and Daxter glared towards Polygon Man. They absolutely HATED having to listen to a guy who thought he had them under control. It was a bit of deja vu for the two. Speaking with clenched teeth, Jak obliged.

“ ...Fine. We’ll do it. “

“ Excellent! Goodbye for now, gentlemen! Remember, I’ll be watching. “ Just like that, Polygon Man disappeared into a cloud of various Playstation shapes.

“ OOH, I hate it when he does that!! “ 

“ So, “ Jak asked as he turned towards the dragon. “ You gotta name? “

“ We weren’t exactly on the Guest List, pal! “

“ Most of us were tricked into coming here. We all were searching for different things that led us into the tournament. Consider yourself lucky. “

“ Now is that any way to describe our prestigious event? My All-Stars were chosen throughout the multiverse due to their own individual strengths. I could not possible see myself making any errors in judgement, so if you were not chosen, perhaps you were not worth joining my tournament! “

“ You’re a real piece of work, y’know that? “

“ Why thank you Daxter, I am a glorious combination of polygons aren’t I? “

“ You’re a piece of something, alright... “

THEY DID IT AGAIN (Smash Reveal Drabble!)

It was that time of the year once again... A new character was joining Smash. With a reveal usually came noise-- and a LOT of it. At the All-Star Apartments, the All-Stars were used to the chaos, but it didn’t mean they necessarily liked it. As per usual, the All-Stars were awaiting the news of whom got revealed inside the main lobby of the Apartment Complex.

“ Gotta hand it to em, “ Sly said as he phased in with a cup of hot cocoa. “ At least this time they let us sleep in. “

“ True that! “ Parappa agreed. “ You guys got any guesses who’ll be our new neighbor? I hope it’s Crash, I really miss em! “

Nate scoffed. “ Yeah well, at this point I’m startin’ to lose hope in the seein’ the lil’ guy anytime soon. I think it’ll be another swordfighter. They can’t get enough of those. “

Suddenly, the doors to the lobby’s entrance were KICKED OPEN. Everyone turned to see the culprit and it was Evil Cole and Needles. Usually, they were pretty quick to laugh at or make fun of whoever made it into Smash, but today the two weren’t happy... quite the opposite. As the clown walked in, he kicked over a vase and roared.

“ WAAAAGH, “ Daxter yelped. The ottsel quickly recomposed himself by climbing back up Jak’s shoulder. With a hand on his hip, Daxter snapped back at Sweet Tooth.

 “ DANG IT, DON’T DO THAT!! “

“ I take it you don’t like our new neighbor? “ Jak said, crossing his arms.

“ ...NO. “ Sweet Tooth was turned away from everyone, but after some silence, he turned around in a snap and gave the news. “ THEY’VE GOT ANOTHER ONE FROM OUR SIDE!! “

Everyone inside the lobby immediately gasped!

Dante stood up from his seat and slammed the coffee table he was at. “ Wait, wait, wait- if they didn’t pick ME, who’s the nobody they ended up with? “

“ THEY GOT ANOTHER FINAL FANTASY FIGHTER... THE ONE WITH THE LONG SWORD AND STUPID HAIR. “

“ Wait- seriously? “ Nate questioned. “ Wasn’t Final Fantasy one of our best hits this year? Are you su- “

Before he could finish his sentence, the treasure hunter was met with a machete towards his face. Nate held his arms up and backed way slightly. “ Geezus, okay! You’re sure, you’re sure! “

“ THEY DID IT AGAIN... FIRST SNAKE, THEN CLOUD, NOW THIS!! DAMN IT, AT THIS RATE WE WON’T GET ANYONE ON OUR SIDE IF WE EVER GET A SEQUEL!! “

“ To be fair, “ Sly said as he reappeared next to Sweet Tooth, leaning on the clown with his arm. “ They’ll probably beat us to another sequel. “

  Sweet Tooth growled and lunged for the raccoon, but what the clown thought was the thief in his hands, was just a dummy. The real Sly was now perched on top of a plastic plant nearby. He took a sip of his cocoa once more before continuing to talk to the clown.

“ Ah, ah, ah. Don’t be like that! If it makes you feel any better, we’ll probably get someone nice like Spider-Man to balance it out once we get a sequel. “

“ Sly’s right, “ Jak said. “ Look, we can’t help what happened. It sucks- but it happened. But instead of moping around about it, why don’t you do somethin’ about it? “

Sweet Tooth slowly raised his head towards Jak, came closer, and began to fondle his hands. “ ...IM LISTENING. “

“ Jaaaaak... “ Daxter whispered towards his pal. “ I dunno about this- “ Jak simply ignored Daxter and placed a hand on Sweet Tooth’s shoulder.

“ Look- you’ve been tryin’ to get these Smashers for a long time. Now, you’ve got a guy on the inside. “

Sweet Tooth’s eye widened. Suddenly he began to chuckle, and eventually turned into a full blown cackle. 

“ Oho.. ohohoho... AHAHAHAHA!! I KNEW YOU WERE GOOD FOR SOMETHIN’, KID! COME ON RED, WE’VE GOT A VISIT TO MAKE!! “

“ With pleasure. “ With an almost smile on his face, Evil Cole followed Sweet Tooth outside the Lobby. 

As the doors closed, Nate turned towards the others and sighed. His palm lay on his face as he uttered a reluctant, 

“ Here we go again. “
