D, I, J, and N!
D: A pairing you wish you liked but just can’t (again: be nice) Harrisco tbh. Harrisco shippers, you’re great, and Harry and Cisco are two of my favorite characters…the ship just doesn’t vibe with me. I read them too much as father and son 😅
I: Has tumblr caused you to stop liking any fandoms, if so, which and why ATLA. I’m still in the fandom sorta (and still writing the Bumizumi fic, that’s just slow-going currently), but…after the massive outflow of POC Tumblr creators leaving back in 2020 because of the sexism and racism going on with some of the shippers…yeah, let’s just say that played a significant part in me pulling away from the fandom.
J: Name a fandom you didn’t care/think about until you saw it all over tumblr Stranger Things!
N: Name three things you wish you saw more or in your main fandom (or a fandom of choice) Hmm I’ll do this for the Flash:
More fics about the post-s2 E2 world!! Show me Jesse getting her powers, show me how Harry took it, show me this team that gets name-dropped in s4!! Show me what happened to Jay Garrick and how he trained Jesse!! Show me when and how he went to E3!!
Fics that put Harry and/or Jesse in s5 and/or s6. Because I missed them
Stargirl x Flash crossover fics! I know Stargirl is canceled and the Flash is ending, but…come on y’all, there was a comic 🥺

2022 Gaming Wrap-Up
What a year, huh? 2022 has had everything from international invasions and stubborn diseases to countless celebrities making a joke of themselves and more superhero shows than anyone asked for. It was basically impossible to predict what was coming next, but if one thing is for sure, the world of video game culture had an absolute banger of a year - long-anticipated sequels, several film and TV adaptations, and what seems to be the hundredth GTA 5 re-release. As we gear up for an exciting new year with plenty of promising upcoming releases, let’s take a moment to look back at 2022 and figure out just what was going on in that mess.
JANUARY-MARCH The year was off to a rocky start, with the announcement that E3 would once again be cancelled due to COVID concerns. These last three years have been rough for the world’s biggest gaming convention; 2020 saw the first-ever cancellation in 25 years, 2021 featured an online-only version of the event, and now it’s been cancelled for the second time. Thankfully, the Entertainment Software Association that hosts E3 stated that they planned to re-open the event for 2023, but time will tell if that remains possible by then. In brighter news, the Steam Deck was released in February, a handheld platform for on-the-go access to Steam’s entire gaming library. Just keep an eye on the battery life - you’ll likely get only an hour or two of God of War before it hits the red. The first three months of the year also featured the release of some highly-anticipated new games: Horizon: Forbidden West continued the award-winning story of Zero Dawn, Kirby and the Forgotten Land brought a return to the cute and occasionally terrifying Dream Land, and the long-awaited Elden Ring dominated sales as the year’s best-selling title.
APRIL-JUNE After a hectic start to the year, things slowed down a little in the second quarter. A handful of smaller events were held in lieu of E3, starting with the Summer Games Fest, including announcements for The Callisto Protocol and Goat Simulator 3. The second Sonic the Hedgehog film was also released to positive reception, while the Halo series on Paramount+ was released to…much less positivity. It appears that video game adaptations are still hit-or-miss, but at least we’ve improved since the old 1993 live-action Super Mario Bros. movie. We don’t talk about that one. Back to the actual games, Diablo Immortal was released in June; while it was a passably decent mobile game, it also serves as an early example of the worrying trend of microtransactions coming from Blizzard Entertainment. With extremely predatory (and concerningly effective) pay-to-win mechanics, Immortal continues to push Blizzard into their downward spiral that began last year. They’ve come a long way since the days where they were once at the height of the respected developers list, and their chances of clawing their way back up seem grim. At least LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga and The Quarry brought some much-appreciated quality to this month’s games library.
JULY-SEPTEMBER Video game history was made at the start of the year’s second half, with the biggest leak ever: Grand Theft Auto 6. That’s right, after 9 whole years since the original release of GTA 5, we finally have concrete confirmed proof of a sequel, all thanks to a devastating leak revealing a massive new open-world map and over an hour of early gameplay. Rockstar Games confirmed the validity of the 90+ leaked videos, and went on to say that while it would not impact the game’s development, they were extremely disappointed by their hard work being revealed by some random hacker. Leaks may be fun and exciting for the fans, but developers keep things under wraps for a reason! Back beyond the controllers, another game adaptation was started in September: Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, a Netflix anime series based on Cyberpunk 2077. It was met with near-universal praise, exploring the dangerous streets of Night City in a way that the game never did with unique characters and a compelling new story. It’s a bright sign for video game adaptations, and here’s hoping it opens the way for more high-quality game series. For those that prefer the games themselves, the adorably demonic Cult of the Lamp took the roguelike genre by storm, Stray told a fascinating story through the eyes of a cute little kitty, and Splatoon 3 quickly jumped to the top of millions of Switch players’ libraries within days of release.
OCTOBER-DECEMBER Things always seem to ramp up in the gaming community towards the end of the year, with plenty of major new releases on top of the Game Awards that were held in early December. Two of the year’s biggest releases came out around this time; God of War: Ragnarok, the climactic follow-up to Kratos’ 2018 Norse adventure, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet bringing one of the world’s largest franchises to its’ next generation. The massive RPG Elden Ring managed to topple the competition as 2023’s Game of the Year, while Splatoon 3 won a well-deserved Best Multiplayer Game. Additionally, October saw the release of DC’s open-world RPG Gotham Knights, bringing co-op to the beloved Arkham series but falling short on matching its’ iconic combat mechanics. Meanwhile, Overwatch 2 launched with fun new gameplay held back by yet more of Blizzard’s monetization schemes. The bizarre combination of Super Mario with the chaotic Rabbids returned with Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope, and the hair-raising survival horror of The Callisto Protocol hit the best-selling list within a week of release. Overall, the end of the year looks to be full of all kinds of exciting games, a perfect way to spend the holidays as 2022 draws to a close.
LOOKING FORWARDS With 2022 almost over, it’s time to make those new year’s resolutions and set our sights on the future. 2023 already has quite a few exciting new releases planned, like Spider-Man 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. On top of that, two games will be getting the silver screen adaptation treatment, including The Last of Us being turned into a HBO series starring the Mandalorion himself, Pedro Pascal, as Joel Miller. The animated Super Mario Bros. Movie also has a newly-revealed release date for April, with absolutely beautiful visuals that will faithfully bring all your favourite Mario levels straight to the big screen. If things go according to plan, we’ll also be back at E3 in 2023 after the convention’s spotty attendance in the last three years, so get ready to scramble for those tickets.
2023 looks to be following the welcome trend of great singleplayer gaming still going strong - it’s not all about online multiplayer these days despite what it might seem, and I for one am very glad to keep playing solo all year long if I can. See you in the new year, everyone! Happy Holidays! - An Aussie Button-Masher

A Break for BlizzCon (and the possible future of in person events)
Blizzard has announced that BlizzCon is taking a break for 2024.
BlizzCon is Blizzard’s annual gaming event. The one to two day event is full of events, game announcements, cosplay, and big concerts headlined by popular musicians. The event draws big crowds, averaging 25,000 over the past decade, and has been a cultural staple for the past decade for gamers.
Blizzard’s reasoning for not holding an event is that they want to focus on smaller, more intimate events focusing on specific games. Despite not holding BlizzCon, Blizzard will be attending trade shows such as Gamescom.
This year has been a wild one for Blizzard, from its record Microsoft acquisition to its subsequent layoff’s of almost 2,000 people across Microsoft’s gaming division.
This also is not the first time Blizzard has canceled BlizzCon. Notably, 2022’s BlizzCon was canceled after state federal workplace harassment lawsuits were brought into the media. BlizzCon was also canceled in 2020 due to the pandemic.
The cancellation of BlizzCon 2024 calls into question the popularity and relevance of big gaming events. Notably, E3 has retired and is “100% dead” as Polygon puts it. Similar to BlizzCon, following the Pandemic, it's been hard to see events focusing on large gatherings thrive again.
With this cancellation, it's noted that Blizzard is going to have to fight harder to show off their new projects. Despite everything being announced in one big event, people would need to seek out the individual events - which can be difficult as it can lead to people only focusing on the projects they care about and not focusing on anything else.
With Blizzards previous track record of canceling BlizzCon events, the impacts of the pandemic, and the general way that the gaming industry is going, its a wonder if Blizzard will host another event. Even major events such as The Game Awards have faced empty seats recently at their most recent event. The way of the future does not look like it’ll be one with big gaming conventions. What it will be, that's for us to find out.

My 2024 Nintendo Wishlist | Gaming Instincts
The arrival of a brand new yr is all the time an thrilling time. With the entire of 2024 to look ahead to, meaning a complete lot of time to be excited for what might simply be across the nook. It’s an excessive amount of enjoyable to invest what might come subsequent within the gaming sphere, given how stacked the yr of 2023 was for gaming. Nintendo had a very loaded yr this time round, with entries from flagship collection like Tremendous Mario, The Legend of Zelda, Hearth Emblem, and Pikmin. With these heavy-hitters already at bat the yr prior, it may be comprehensible to anticipate 2024 to be a a lot quieter affair altogether. Nonetheless, that doesn’t imply the Nintendo fan in me can’t provide you with issues to be enthusiastic about within the coming yr. Understand that the next are simply my opinion with a wholesome dosage of copium. Right here’s what I hope to see from Nintendo in 2024.
3. Metroid Prime 4 Information
The story of Metroid Prime 4 is an extended and attempting story. Being introduced again in 2017 through the 2017 Nintendo Direct (and likewise through the Change’s heyday), Metroid Prime 4 has since then sunken beneath the waves of growth hell. However to say simply that might solely be telling half the story. When introduced, Metroid Prime 4 was manned by collection producer Kensuke Tanabe and developed by Bandai Namco Studios of Singapore and Japan. Followers of the Metroid Prime video games will discover that this workforce doesn't embody Retro Studios, the workforce liable for the Prime Trilogy.Prime takes a departure from the collection’ facet scrolling roots, ditching the 2D platforming airplane and elevating the collection with the first-person shooter perspective; and this inventive distinction occurred by happenstance. The Texas-based studio occurred to be creating a third-person capturing journey recreation with a feminine protagonist that caught Shigeru Miyamoto’s consideration in spite of everything different Retro tasks did not impress him. Retro Studios would then undergo a studio culling, shedding staff and canceling tasks to prioritize Metroid Prime. Regardless of rocky setbacks and the criticism of skeptics, the modern first-person journey recreation would develop into the most effective promoting Metroid recreation of all time till Metroid Dread. However Metroid is a collection that all the time appears to face obstacles within the growth pipeline. In 2018, Metroid Prime 4 was purported to be continuing as deliberate, no less than based on then Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime. Although he prefaced his statements with phrases like “effectively into growth” and “continuing effectively,” the shortage of footage to indicate off at that yr’s E3 had followers anxious. These issues could be based later in 2019 when Nintendo EPD common supervisor Shinya Takahashi gave the unlucky information of Metroid Prime 4’s venture restart. In line with Takahashi, the work Bandai Namco Singapore and Japan had achieved as much as that time was lower than the corporate’s excessive requirements. Although Takahashi did say that the choice was not made simply, the restart was in the end known as for in the long run. On this darkish time, Takahashi assured followers that Metroid Prime’s unique builders could be introduced again to deal with the monumental process. However “introduced again” is getting used loosely right here. The Retro Studios that crafted the unique Metroid Prime Trilogy just isn't the Retro Studios that exists right this moment. The first Retro expertise behind these video games, designer/director Mark Pacini and artwork director Todd Keller, left Retro Studios in 2008 shortly after Metroid Prime 3: Corruption launched. So as to add onto this, Retro Studios has been on the hunt since 2020 for key builders and expertise they might add to their workforce to help within the growth of Metroid Prime 4. The diploma of positions Retro was in search of confirmed each how far again Metroid Prime 4’s launch date was doubtlessly pushed and the way critical Retro was in making Prime 4 a actuality. Although devs have come and gone via the years of 2020 to 2023, Retro and its workers are arduous at work on Metroid Prime 4, backed up with each trade veterans and untested but passionate builders. Nintendo stays tightlipped on Metroid Prime 4’s state of affairs and progress, however little clues right here and there present that the sport may very well be on its means quickly. In 2022, Retro up to date their Twitter (or X) banner with idea artwork of Samus that was model new. There are additionally fewer general Retro job listings, which might point out that the sport presently has all the mandatory expertise it must thrive. Curiously, the Metroid Prime Trilogy was remastered and launched in early 2023 with out prior fanfare or announcement. In line with a German video games score board and an environmental artist who labored on the remaster at Retro, the remastered trilogy had been achieved for some time, way back to 2021, which means Retro and Nintendo had been sitting on this recreation for some time. Whether or not the remaster launch was to pave the way in which for Prime 4 or one other of Nintendo’s inane enterprise choices, we are able to’t say for certain, but it surely exhibits that Nintendo hasn’t forgotten in regards to the collection that made a reputation for itself within the West. Hopefully 2024 is when Metroid Prime 4 makes its grand return.
2. Hearth Emblem Remakes
I’m an enormous Hearth Emblem fan. The collection regained its footing again in 2012 with the immense success of Awakening and secured its place as one in all Nintendo’s flagship franchises. That was additionally across the time I got here on board with turn-based technique collection and have by no means gotten off ever since. Although I've been enjoying Hearth Emblem titles for the final 12 years, within the eyes of collection veterans, I'm nonetheless a little bit of a novice. And no, I don’t imply within the sense of HOW I play (Traditional/Arduous for me, thanks very a lot. I’m not THAT a lot of a grimy informal), however WHAT I performed. Awakening was the thirteenth recreation within the collection, and I’ve performed each subsequent recreation since, together with all of the spinoffs like Warriors and Tokyo Mirage Classes. (Heroes is a mainline recreation by the way in which. Sorry, I don’t make the principles.) I'd like to play all of the earlier titles, however all the pre-3DS video games are locked behind ageing {hardware} that's not accessible via simple means, no less than legally. This lack of accessibility additionally permeates to recreation design as effectively, as sure points of the older titles have aged like milk resembling map design, help mechanics, stock administration, and many others. These revered, basic video games are held again by limiting {hardware} and design, and a few are even cordoned off by way of the language barrier, just like the famend fourth and fifth video games within the collection.Giving these older video games a contemporary facelift could be a superb method to breathe life into Hearth Emblem’s older catalog and provides a method to attraction to each collection oldtimers and newcomers alike—and Hearth Emblem is not any stranger to remakes. Hearth Emblem 11, 15, and 12 have been remakes of Hearth Emblem 1, 3, and a couple of respectively. Additionally, if rumors are to be believed, Hearth Emblem developer Clever Programs might doubtlessly be at work on a remake of Hearth Emblem 4. This information got here across the time the leaks for Hearth Emblem Interact surfaced on the web which have been all later confirmed to be true.Clever Programs is presently working to ship a remaster of Paper Mario and the Thousand 12 months Door and I don’t understand how that can have an effect on Hearth Emblem. However I’ll be damned if I can’t no less than dream a bit.
1. New Nintendo Console
Undoubtedly, a brand new Nintendo console is on most individuals’s bingo playing cards for 2024. The Change has been out since 2017 and it isn’t precisely ageing all that gracefully. Efficiency is weak throughout the board and newer video games can hardly make a splash on Nintendo’s {hardware}. Simply have a look at how Mortal Kombat 1 appears on this factor. It’s hideous.
Followers have been speculating for years at this level for Nintendo’s subsequent huge factor, developing with modern names like “the subsequent Change” or the “Change Professional”. Although wholly uncreative, what Nintendo followers are cooking isn’t solely with out cause. Nintendo is famend for his or her exceptional method to console growth, adopting the “blue ocean” technique. Coined by W. Chan Kim and Renee Mauborgne, this methodology mainly means to look at a present given house and set up a marketplace for an expertise and/or product that both is unexplored or no different competitor is presently delivering, therefore the “blue ocean” moniker. The Nintendo Change does precisely that. Although weak in specs, its twin mode of operation makes it an expertise that neither Microsoft nor Sony can rival or match. The Change was so forward of its time it successfully rendered the DS line of handhelds out of date (although handheld consoles have been already hanging on by a thread). What we wish from Nintendo is easy: an improved Change. A console that may maintain the ergonomic design and performance of the Change whereas boasting higher inside {hardware} could be a dream come true. The Change has had run over the past seven years and an upgraded model being introduced in 2024 will maintain the nice instances rolling for even longer. 2024 is just simply getting began and I can’t wait to see what this yr has in retailer for us. Keep tuned at Gaming Instincts by way of TikTok, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook for extra gaming information. Source link Read the full article

E3, the gaming expo that has been a staple at the Los Angeles Convention Center since it first launched in 1995, is shutting its doors for good after setting, then canceling, a show for last June. In recent years, big players with new ways to reach consumers directly had started bailing from the confab, which was further disrupted by Covid.
“After more than two decades of E3, each one bigger than the last, the time has come to say goodbye,” the Entertainment Software Association posted today on X, on what had for years been a central showcase for the video game industry.
“ESA remains focused on advocating for ESA member companies and the industry workforce who fuel positive cultural and economic impact every day,” the group told the Washington Post.
The event last summer had been scheduled to run from June 13-16 before being nixed with the ESA saying that while the show “remains a beloved event and brand,” the plans for E3 2023 “simply did not garner the sustained interest necessary to execute it in a way that would showcase the size, strength and impact our industry.”
That would have been the first in-person E3 event since 2019. The event was canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. A digital version was held in 2021.
But big names in the games space including Microsoft, Ubisoft and Nintendo had said they would not be attending E3, in person or virtually, with most opting to host their own digital showcases.

The ESA Has Announced That E3 Is Officially Dead
New Post has been published on https://thedigitalinsider.com/the-esa-has-announced-that-e3-is-officially-dead/
The ESA Has Announced That E3 Is Officially Dead
The Entertainment Software Association has announced that its long-running Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) is officially dead, as reported by The Washington Post. The last in-person E3 conference happened in 2019 before the COVID-19 pandemic and other complications prevented it from coming back in full form since. Despite struggles, the ESA attempted to bring E3 back in various ways.
It was canceled in 2020 as a result of the pandemic; the 2021 E3 was an all-digital event; the 2022 show was canceled, and this year’s attempt with PAX organizer ReedPop was canned, too.
“After more than two decades of hosting an event that has served as a central showcase for the U.S. and global video game industry, the Entertainment Software Association has decided to bring E3 to a close,” ESA president and CEO Stanely Pierre-Louis told The Washington Post. “We know the entire industry, players and creators alike have a lot of passion for E3. We share the passion. We know it’s difficult to say goodbye to such a beloved event, but it’s the right thing to do given the new opportunities our industry has to reach fans and partners.”
Pierre-Louis told The Washington Post that E3’s closure means video games and the surrounding business “has blossomed in different ways,” noting that any of the major game companies can create their own individual showcases. He’s likely alluding to the format popularized by Nintendo with its Nintendo Directs, which other publishers like Xbox and PlayStation utilize now. “That’s exciting for our industry, and it means it’s an opportunity for them to explore how to engage new audiences in different ways.”
For a recap of the history of E3, read The Washington Post’s full story here. For a look at the event’s recent cancellation, read our E3 breakdown here.

E3's Dead, Again
After weeks of speculation of E3's cancellation, earlier this evening Reedpop and ESA confirmed that both the digital and physical events for this year's E3 are cancelled.
This comes as no shock after reports months ago that the major gaming studios would have no presence on the show floor this year, and since then smaller publishers followed suit – nailing the coffin for what was once gaming's biggest convention. But E3 didn't "die" overnight, it's the making of a decade's worth of events cascading like dominos towards an inevitable demise.
Technically E3 has "died" many times over in the minds of some. People said E3 "died" in 2013 when Nintendo stopped doing press conferences. A large amount of people say E3 "died" in 2017 when it was opened to the general public, whereas before it had always been a press only event. This decision blurred the line on who the audience was for the event for years to come. E3 "died" again in 2019 when Sony pulled away from the show, and that year also saw a large data breach of press that attended the 2019 event and data of press that attended in years past. The pandemic in 2020 caused the first cancellation of E3, but even before the pandemic the ESA's plans for the E3 event were heavily criticized.
Between the ESA coming under fire in recent years of anti-consumer practices, a shifted landscape where digital showcases are the more practical and cost effective solution to gaming announcements, and the fact that it's very much in favor for the larger gaming companies to not hold showcases so close to each other, whether E3 can rise from the ashes remains to be seen.
But for now, yes, E3 is indeed dead.

Last month, reports began to circulate that Nintendo, Xbox, and PlayStation will not have a presence at E3 2023. The absence of those three could complicate the event's success, but it seems at least one major player in the industry will be in attendance. During an earnings call today, Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot confirmed that the publisher plans to be at the show this year, provided that it takes place. That doesn't sound like the most confident response, but it could give Ubisoft a big venue to showcase its games! "If E3 happens, we will be there and we will have a lot of things to show," said Guillemot. E3 was once the biggest show of the year for the video game industry, and some of the biggest titles of all-time have been revealed at past shows. However, things have started to change over the last few years. In 2019, PlayStation pulled out of the show, though Nintendo and Microsoft both attended. In 2020, the show was cancelled as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. In 2021, an all-digital event was held, but 2022 had neither an in-person show nor a digital event. E3 2023 is supposed to be the first in-person E3 event since 2019, but it's understandable that some publishers might be skeptical.⚡️🍿🍿🎮🎮 #comiccon #spoilermagazine #news #losangeles #podcast #magazine #art #instagram #galaxy #film #tv #hollywood #feature #movies #fandom #graphicdesign #nyc #spoiler #comicconradio #comicbooks #ubisoft #gaming #gamer #e3 #game (at Los Angeles, California) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co4sfmwLzBy/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Reader Discussion: What's Your Favorite E3 Memory?

Reader Discussion: What's Your Favorite E3 Memory?
The Entertainment Software Association announced today that E3 is officially dead. After more than two decades, the long-running video game conference where developers, publishers, businesses, and press met to check out new games, watch reveals, and more, has been permanently canceled.
The first E3 took place in 1995 and the last in-person conference happened in 2019. The 2020 event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but E3 returned for one last bout in 2021 with an all-digital event. The 2022 show was canceled, and this year’s event, which was set to happen with ReedPop, was canceled as well.
Personally, while this news comes as no surprise, I’m legitimately sad about it. E3 is one of the things that first pulled me into the idea of writing about games for a living – I loved the excitement and pure love of games that happened around each week of E3; I wanted to be a part of it in some capacity. And when I finally started freelancing in games media, eventually landing this position here at Game Informer, it remained my dream to attend an E3 event as a professional games journalist.
The dream is dead, y’all.
But amongst the sadness, there are still plenty of great memories I have associated with E3. I’ll never forget sitting in a local theater to watch PlayStation’s 2016 E3 showcase – remember when Sony used to live stream its showcases to theaters, giving us at home a facsimile of what it’d be like to watch the show live in person with others?
Bear McCreary, one of my favorite composers, began playing a song I was unfamiliar with. It was booming, powerful, unique, and new. The showcase then cuts to game footage, and we see a young boy outside of a winter cabin playing with toys. A few moments later, we’d see Kratos, the God of War, back with a new look and in a new land. He was older, with a new voice by Christopher Judge, and sporting a different look. The theater I was in (and the one in the live stream) erupted with excitement – Kratos and God of War were back!
I had never played a God of War game at that point, but the excitement around me was contagious. I was beyond pumped to play a new entry in a series I had never cared about. Now, in 2023, that game is one of my all-time favorites, both because of this E3 memory I have of it and the game itself.

With all that said, I want to know what your favorite E3 memory is? Is it a sequel you never thought you’d get? Is it a new IP you knew immediately you’d fall in love with? Is it a game console reveal? Is it a celebrity appearance? Let Game Informer know in the comments below!
