Had a dream where scientists managed to combine a lemon and a strawberry into a new fruit known as "The Dulfo". It's name came from Andrew Dulfo, the lead scientist who created it.
The Dulfo looked like a large lemon, except it was red and had a thick green calyx on top. When you cut into it, the insides looked like a lemon's, just pink instead.
I bought one from the grocery store and took it home to try it and make lemonade. It tasted almost exactly like a grapefruit, as it had the perfect balance of sweetness and sourness. The lemonade I made with it was also the best drink I've ever had.

UPIS Math Department holds first virtual Math Week
Mathematics Unites, the theme of the first virtual Math Week celebration, was hosted by the UPIS Math Department from March 14 to 18, 2022.
The celebration promoted appreciation for Mathematics as a unifying language and as a tool in understanding the world and fighting global challenges. In line with this, four programs were announced on the UPIS Math Week Facebook page.
For Pi Day, more than a hundred participants joined the Pi Day Quizziz, a competition held via Zoom at exactly 3:14 PM on March 14. From K-2, they awarded Luccio Pang of K-Sampaguita, Altair Santiago of K-Kamia, and Amelia Obias of 2-Atis. For grades 3-6, Precious dela Paz of 3-Sapa, Zeke Sagayaga of 5-Banahaw, and Reen Lopez of 5-Sierra Madre won the competition. Lastly, the winners from grades 7-12 were Timothy Capulong of 11-Campos, Kirstin Mejia of 7-Jupiter, and Renz Dolorias of 8-Firefly.
Another activity is the Math Scavenger Hunt, a team activity that required students to search for eight items from the list posted on the event's Facebook page. According to Mr. Harold Badilla, Grade 11 Math teacher who facilitated the event, 32 groups of three members joined the game. The members of the K-2 team winner in this activity were Ilenea Amihan Baltazar, Freedom Dioquino, and Chloe Bianca Usi of 2-Mangga while Joaquin Bayuga, Allyssa Sarenas, and James Deximo of 4-Patani won the 3-6 contest. Last but not least, the members of the winning team from 7-12 were Erielle Arceo and Bianca Baguio of 11-Lopez, along with Gabe Matias from 11-Marasigan.
Guess the Number was a challenge for students to count all the candies inside a jar. “This activity warmly received 244 guesses from students,” Mr. Badilla said. Altair Santiago from K-Kamia, Paulo Dulfo from 4-Singkamas, and Justine Catiis from 11-Campos were the winners of this activity.
Finally, Math Museum featured interesting facts about math posted on the UPIS Math Week page every day for four days. The topics included historical mathematicians, math articles, and throwbacks of older UPIS students sharing their math hugot lines.
On March 18, Prof. Angel Rocena, Mathematics department head, hosted the closing ceremony with Mr. Badilla. The latter expressed his appreciation for the UPIS communitys engagement during the festivities. “We are extremely grateful for the active participation of students as evidenced by the high turnout of entries, for the class advisers and subject teachers for promoting the Math Week events, for the UPIS administration for the leadership and guidance, and for the PTA for sponsoring the prizes shared to the winners,” he shared.
Prof. Rocena disclosed that organizing the event was challenging because teachers had to do all the planning, preparing, and executing of the programs alongside their teaching responsibilities. Despite the problems they faced, she added, “Challenging, yes, but we were joyful as we did all those because we know that it would be a fun learning experience for the students, something outside the usual Zoom discussions.”
When asked about next year’s Math Week, Prof. Rocena answered, “Whatever mode of instruction we'd have next year, expect a Math Week around 3/14/23 with new activities that will make you appreciate and love Math more.” //by Ricci Dantes, Andre Panopio, and Jemuell San Jose

RC Cagayan de Oro turns over global grant to Philippine Red Cross
THE Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro turned over a global grant to the Philippine Red Cross CDO-MisOr chapter in ceremonies held Wednesday.
Global grants support large international activities with sustainable, measurable outcomes in Rotary’s areas of focus. By working together to respond to real community needs, clubs and districts strengthen their global partnerships.
Global grants have a minimum budget of $30,000 and a maximum World Fund award of $400,000. Grant sponsors can use a combination of District Designated Funds (DDF), cash, and/or directed gifts and endowment earnings to fund a global grant. The Foundation will provide a 100 percent World Fund match for all DDF contributions.
In this case, the global grant was applied during the time of immediate past president Julino Dulfo in 2019.
Past RI District 3870 governor and district Rotary Foundation chair Manuel Along recalled that it was during a training among fellow Rotary Foundation district chairs in Clark last March 2019 that they were encouraged to apply for the global grant.
Along, who is organic to the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro, then met with Dulfo so they could apply for a global grant.
It so happened that Philippine Red Cross CDO-MisOr chapter chair Antonio Soriano also happened to be a member of the Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro.
And so it was decided that the global grant, once approved, will be turned over to the Philippine Red Cross CDO-MisOr chapter.
The global grant that they applied for was to be used to install a blood bank refrigerator, a plasma freezer, an incubated platelet agitator, a tube sealer and a T-seal mobile. These are equipment that will increase capacity to store blood at the blood center and replace antiquated equipment.
Soriano is grateful to the Rotarians, saying the global grant is timely in the light of COVID-19.
Mindanao’s biggest club, also recognized as The Mother Club, was organized on April 22, 1948. From a small group 17 charter members, it has constantly grown over the years.
The Rotary Club of Cagayan de Oro is made up of distinguished professionals, business and community leaders who share the common passion of serving the community selflessly. It is a non-religious, culturally diverse and non-political club that strives to promote equality and high ethical standards among men through project and activities that cater to various sectors of society advocating the importance of education, health improvement, and poverty alleviation are prioritized and regularly carried out by the club and its members.... ’Keep going’ events to help workers with mental health issues
#PHnews: ’Keep going’ events to help workers with mental health issues
BAGUIO CITY-- Two events that will bring together supporters, advocates, carers and the community that will help workers with mental health issues are slated on October 20 and October 27.
“We are hoping to unify the different groups who have a common agenda for the benefit of the workers with mental health problems by bringing them all together in two events dubbed as 'Keep Going' which means continuing their lives,” Leslie Dulfo, co-organizer of “Keep Going! A gathering for mental health” told the Philippine News Agency on Monday.
Keep Going was used as a tag to literally encourage those suffering from mental health to continue with their lives as persons, members of the family and especially as a worker.
She said on Oct. 20, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., there will be a talk, music, and poetry to inspire those in the sector to go on and keep going.
The event will be a mental health awareness campaign at the Baguio-Benguet Community Credit Cooperative (BBCCC) multi-purpose hall that will bring together around 100 advocates and “carers”. There will be three speakers who are expected to share their expertise on the topic.
Among them is an advocate who survived post-partum depression, a resident doctor of the Philippine Mental Health center at the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC), and an advocate who will share about anxiety and panic disorder.
An advocate who used poetry as a therapy to cope will also share works with the participants.
The contestants for the Mr. And Miss Summer Capital will also join the event to learn more about mental health.
For the Oct. 27 event, Aki Inway Reyes said the “Run for Mental Health” is hoped to bring together about 300 runners- supporters of mental health.
He said the fun run is a fundraising event with a registration fee of PHP350 for the three-kilometer distance; PHP450 for the five kilometers; PHP550 for the 10-kilometers and PHP650 for the 21 kilometers.
“The funds we will raise will be used to jump-start the creation of a non-government organization that will cater to mental health issues and form ‘Project Kampana’ where a website and an application will be created to aid those in the sector,” Reyes said.
He said several persons in the sector have approached them asking if they know of an employer who understands the plight of a person with mental health.
He said the question prompted the idea to create a website where those in the sector can submit their resumes, which will be linked to employers who understand what those in the sector are going through.
“This is especially true for those who have been clinically diagnosed,” he said.
The “Keep going” fundraising will also allow them to raise the money for the continued conduct of mental health awareness in the workplace and in the community.
Reyes added that there are support groups, organizations and even treatments available.
In a report published at the World Health Organization website on October 4, it said “one in four people in the world will be affected by mental or neurological disorders at some point in their lives. Around 450 million people currently suffer from such conditions, placing mental disorders among the leading causes of ill-health and disability worldwide.”
The WHO also said treatments are available, but nearly two-thirds of people with a known mental disorder never seek help from a health professional. Stigma, discrimination, and neglect prevent care and treatment from reaching people with mental disorders.
The same WHO report said: “Where there is neglect, there is little or no understanding. Where there is no understanding, there is neglect.” (PNA)

Road to preparation
Last wednesday is the last meeting we had with Engr. Mabulay. He taught us things we need to know in achieving our goals about our future company. Leadership is very important but we cant avoid failures. Instead we need to learn things about our failures. The class is near to end and at the end we must have the pitching. In our team, Reeve Dulfo was elected as our pitcher. He will present our project proposal which is he PIN(Portable Information Navigator). The content will be summarized in 4 minutes as what our instructor said. It includes important information that focus the PIN. We already have pitch deck prepared and what is lacking for now is the practice in delivering the pitch. End is near to come but its still the beginning.
