We've had the frogs for a month or so now——they're doing well, eating well, pooping well. We keep crickets and dubias now, and they eat them both happily, for the most part.
One of the frogs hates the tongs, so I often have to pop on a glove to offer bugs by hand. One of them croaks to recordings of other frogs, and to a song that has pacman "wakawakawaka" sounds in it. That frog has also developed little nuptial pads. We've got at least one boy.

The crickets seem to recognise me. They hide under the egg cartons as soon as I enter the room. They don't do the same for my spouse, who doesn't feed the frogs at the moment. They seem to know that I'm the reason their numbers go down every other day. I try not to feel bad about the fear they show towards me. I am, after all, presenting them straight to the mouths of predators. They know. They're little, but they're not dumb.

"insects are such boring pets, they don't do anything!"
Wrong. My dubia roaches are precious, and actually quite intelligent. One of them has learned to get out of the terrarium, some how (it is always the same one, as she's the only one who has developed (flightless) wings) and has learned to crawl to the top shelf and get my attention by scuttling about on the tinfoil bases the plants up there sit in to catch water. It is around the same time several nights in a row, to tell me that the colony would like some new repashy food please. Her big bulky body makes a very distinct sound on the metal, and she's very easy to catch, often just crawling into my hand unless i scare her. She returns back to the tank as soon as I put my hand in there. And then i add more of their food mix and they ALL scurry out of hiding and go ham over food.
My pet roach is learning to Pavlov me into giving them food.

And here we see a wild dubia frolicking around the watering hole, hydrating along with its companions. These giant beautiful beasts— wait... oh god...
OH NO IT SPOTTED M—

O shit run! Dubia are kinda ridiculous roaches not gonna lie, they're so flat.

Got some new bins to work on moving some isopod cultures into new fresh set ups. Currently working on moving the dairy cows since their bin is like pure frass
Tumblr media
Made a little pitfall trap to catch the rest hiding in the bin since I forgot to get a sieve... It's working pretty well though!
Tumblr media
I also decided last minute to instead of giving the bin to the Zebras to try and make a dubia roach culture
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Originally bought them as feeders for the ants but ahg, they're cute and would save me money. I might go back and get a few adults or just let these guys grow and do their thing 🤷
At the moment I have them set up like I do my isopods, gonna see how that works out.
I was a little apprehensive to trying to keep these guys before since they do require heating, literally won't reproduce if it's below 68f and my room is usually around 64-65f... So I'm gonna try putting them on top of my snakes tank near the heater and see if that works well. But first the lid is a little warped so I'm weighing it down with other bins and I have a fan on their ventilation since it's probably too humid in there.

Filter and heated broke on the 40 gallon, all that was in there was feeder guppies for the turtle in her pond. So I drained it, transferred all the guppies and plants into the pond, then deep cleaned it and made it into a 40 gallon bio active enclosure for my dubia roach colony.
They are so happy, and this is so much easier for me to deal with.
All the plants are trimmings I’ve been growing from the adult plants around my house.
I’m going to have a happy black hole and an endless supply of roaches once again.
