Is your dryer heating up your clothes too much? Is there a burning smell coming from your dryer or the dryer vent? Is your clothes not drying, but feels warm to the touch. According to the U.S. Fire Administration, these are some Dryer Fire Facts you may have not known.
- Every year, firefighters across the country respond to around 14,630 home fires caused by clothes dryers, according to the National Fire Protection Association.
- “Dryer fires are responsible for nine deaths, 420 civilian injuries, and $222 million in property damage annually,” says Marty Ahrens, a spokesperson for the NFPA.
-More home clothes dryer fires occur in the fall and winter months, peaking in January.
An accumulation of lint causes one out of four fires in home fires, which means that not cleaning your dryer is more of a threat than a mechanical or electrical malfunction. Here are some simple ways to help you keep your family and home safe from Dryer Fire.
-Clean your Lint Filter! After or Before every load of laundry. Keeping your lint filter clean helps to keep a greater efficiency of your dryer. When the lint filter is not cleaned it can cause the dryer to heat to a higher temperature, therefore making it work harder which can cause low efficiency.
-Replace the Transition Hose! Generally, dryers are equipped with a 4-inch vent in the back, which homeowners or installers connect to the exterior vent with a transition hose. But not all hoses are created equal. If you see a plastic or foil accordion-style hose connecting your dryer to the vent, it's a good idea to replace it. These are risky because they can sag allowing lint to build up and the ridges on these style of hose can trap lint. Superior Dryer Vent Cleaning offers a transition hoses that stand above the rest. Our Transition hoses yields the ease of use and the flexibility of foil hoses, but with the fire resistance and airflow efficiency of the semi-rigid hoses. Superior DVC transition hoses are also crush resistant.
-Avoid using fabric softener or dryer sheets! The residue from dryer sheets and fabric softener stick to the inside walls of your dryer vent, which in turns collects lint and clogs your vent that much faster. Not to mention, it makes it much harder to clean. A safe alternative is to use dryer balls.
