SIGNALIS Big Teef Fic Preview!
Did anybody want a fic with the Big Teef? No? Well, too bad, you're getting one anyway. Have a taste!
---
"Hey, when were you going to tell me you have fangs?"
Elster pauses, having just gotten engrossed in a scene of tense questioning.  "Excuse me?"
Ariane sits beside her at the table, lays down the Replika overview, leans her elbows on it and rests her chin on folded hands, giving the Replika a look that to any Gestalt would be similar to a parent wanting to know why their kids didn't do what was asked of them – or rather, like she's taken on the role of detective in the midst of questioning.  Elster lifts her eyebrows, waiting for an explanation.
Ariane elaborates as if telling an anecdote from her Rotfront years.  "I looked through the Replika overview again to see if there was anything I could pick up to help you out, or do something for you, when... in the corner of my little eye, I spy... a schematic.  A schematic, El Bell.  Of retractable canine teeth.  Which you are in possession of, and neglected to inform me."
Elster closes her eyes, knowing where this is going.
"Ariane."
"Now, I don't ask the time of day from a clock..."
"Liebchen."
"But I'm not shy about how hot I am for nibbles and love bites..."
"Light of my life."
"And you didn't think to tell me?  When were you going to tell me?"
"Settle down, dramatic.  They're for self-defense, not for sexy time.  Besides, it's not even unique to LSTRs – all Replikas have them."
Ariane blinks in surprise.  "Wait, seriously?  Even Eules?"  Having such teeth makes sense for a Storch or Star, but an Eule?
"Absolutely.  I once heard that a secretary unit back at headquarters almost bit the fingers off an untrained Storch who got too ugly with her.  Not sure how it ended, but I like to think Frau Beißer got off with a warning and the Storch never lived it down.  Self-defense, like I said.  With combat units it's a last resort in case one runs out of ammunition or doesn't have a melee weapon ready."
Ariane's eyes widen.  Eules always looked so delicate to her with how lightly they carried themselves, but it seems even those domestic units are made of sterner stuff than expected.  Her eyes lower to Elster's mouth.  Elster gives her a knowing look.
"No."
"I didn't say anything!"
"You have that 'in the interest of science' look on your face."
"I just want to see them for myself!  There's nothing wrong with that!  Show me, please?  It's not like I'll ever see them in a combat situation, unless we get picked up by aliens or something."
Elster stares.  Ariane stares back, pleading and doe-eyed, just seconds away from deploying the dreaded pouty bottom lip.  Elster gives in, of course.  She can never really refuse humoring her love, so she teasingly grouses like it's such a chore.
"Ach, fine."
Ariane tries not to drum her fingers happily while Elster pops the mandibles in her jaw, mouth opening.  Nothing out of the ordinary, just 28 white teeth – go figure Replikas aren't manufactured with wisdom teeth – and then Elster curls her lips back wolfishly, her canines extending with an audible click.
There is, of course, the knee-jerk flicker of saucy fascination since Ariane does so love when Elster bites her, but in the moment it's also tempered by actual scientific curiosity.  Elster's lengthened teeth are only sharp at the very tips, as Ariane knows from experience, so while they probably can pierce through flesh or biomechanical components they must be intended for crushing and tearing, clamping down and keeping a steady grip thanks to powerful jaws.
A rather specific detail from the Replika overview comes to mind: the LSTR unit has a bite force of 1250 PSI at minimum.  Ariane's heard of certain Vinetan animals having a comparable bite, capable of piercing through the skulls of their prey.  The knowledge of this results in a revelatory daydream of hostile alien forces intercepting their little ship and abducting Ariane, causing Elster to crush an extraterrestrial skull or spine between her teeth as she goes in a rampaging rescue...
"Ari," Elster drawls.  The extended fangs seem to mess with her speech, an added lisp causing her accent to border on nonsensical.  "Ye hab dat look."
Ariane shakes her head.  "I wasn't thinking of anything sexy this time, honest!"
"Uh-huh.  Cad I pud dese away now?  Iz hahd to talk."

John Price
How you met: Civilian You sat peacefully in the small cafe, letting the drumming of the London rainfall set the mood for your book. You should've been studying, many study guides for your criminology course sitting in front of you, but something about Ulysses by James Joyce irked you. The massive book had taken you months to read- let alone understand. As you flipped another page, you could feel someone's eyes on you. You looked up and locked eyes with a man who looked drenched from the rain. "Sorry for staring, sweetheart, just love that book," he replied, giving you a charming smile which made his tired eyes light up. "I just started it but it's a little dense" you responded honestly. "James Joyce is known for that, the Irish man had a way with words." he said and gave you a small shrug with his strong shoulders. "I'll gladly pay for your tea if you can give me a plot summary," you offered and showed that the seat across from you was empty. That day, the man who later said his name was John, provided you with an in depth explanation as well as some recommendations for better reading material.
A peek into your relationship: As you opened your eyes, you realized today was the day John was returning from the states. He never shared the details of his travels but always made sure to arrive home on time. You were many years into dating, engaged for 2. You hurried to the kitchen to await his arrival, making sure to place your engagement ring on your finger and place a kettle on the stove. You tapped your fingers anxiously listening to the whistle of the kettle and awaiting the sound of the door opening. Soon your heart soared as you heard him entering. You quickly ran to greet him and placed many kisses on his cold face. "I'm happy to be home, love" he whispered, embracing you tightly and lifting you in his arms. "I'm happy to have you here," you responded as he carried you to the kitchen, "I finally finished that damn book and I have to say, your explanation was far more interesting." He laughed heartily, happy to be home with his bookworm of a fiancee.

July 8th | Mexico | You actually handed money over for this job...
Daniel from IAS Labs dropped me an email about updating his 1975 Brasilia and its front suspension. He used the word "hacked" in his initial email. I wasn't ready for the pictures that came back.
If ANY experience, for reference, I have 21+ years, resonates with you, head this warning. If you hire someone and you don't vet their work, you could actually hand money over for this kind of work. Please, don't risk your life or the lives around you even thinking of driving around the streets with so many issues. Please.
With that said, Daniel asked for the PRO's expertise on what it would update this Brasilia and bring safety, enjoyment, and quality of ride, back to the forefront of this Classic VW. The Answer. The Stage 2 PRObuilt Beam.
With the vehicle having cosmic wheels and the current 5" narrowed beam, Daniel was having rubbing problem on the inner fenderwells and he also did not like how much it tucked inside the fenders. We opted to do the 2" narrowed version to check as many boxes as possible. Here are the specs on the beam;
Stage 2 PRObuilt Air Ride Ball Joint Beam Complete - 2203
The BEST way to add Air Ride to a Classic Volkswagen Type 1 with ball joint front suspension (1966 through 1977), is by installing a Stage 2 PRObuilt Beam. When the PRO's say complete, they mean complete. You will not need anything in addition to this assembly. The Stage 2 PRObuilt Beam is built on the Ultimate Beam platform. It's made in stock width and up to four inches narrower than OEM to allow for wider wheels, drop spindles, and disc brakes, that add track width. The complete beam comes as you see it, spindle to spindle, with an entire PRObuilt steering system installed and ready to bolt in and go.
What's included? This Stage 2 PRObuilt Beam is spindle to spindle, built in any configuration, from stock to four inch narrowed. It comes powder-coated, satin black, ready to install. The front end comes complete with the following;
New Ultimate Adjustable Beam
Through Rods
New Tie rods
New Air Ride Shocks
New Drum Drop Spindles (CB Performance/EMPI) or OEM Spindles
New Steering Dampener
New Hardware
New Grease Zerks
Premium Tie rod Ends
Premium Ball Joints
PRObuilt Steering Box filled with Corn Head Grease
Reconditioned pitman/drop arm/clamp
PRObuilt Control Arms
New eccentrics
What's recommended?
When it comes to how narrow you need, check out this article here. The PRO's recommend a FOUR Inch narrowed for most applications as it allows for just about any wheel to fit and tuck under the fenders.
If you are going for the dropped look and want to run either Airkewld's GEN 2 Disc Brake kit or your factory drums opt for the DRUM Drop Spindles. If you keep your Factory Disc Brakes (4 lug), opt for the DISC Drop Spindles. If you are keeping the drop moderate, a stock height spindle for the drum or factory disc is available. If you want to run the disc brakes you already have, click here.
Install kit (saves time, ensuring you have everything needed to do the job right) New beam bolts, upper and lower body pads, and inspection plate) .
If you want to make this beam install even more complete, maybe installing a GEN 2 Disc Brake kit might make sense. To have the PRO's install them, you will need to add the labor to do that here, then choose your disc brake kit here.
You will need an Air Management Kit (AMK) to lift and lower the vehicle on demand. If you are only doing front air ride, you can use a 2 valve AMK and use one valve per corner. This will eliminate sway left to right when turning. Trust me. If you are going to do full air ride, then the 4 valve AMK is what you need. (If you decide to use a different manufacture for air management, the PRO's will be UNABLE to tech support any issues you have as we will be unable to replicate the issue in house).
If your steering coupler from your column to your steering box has seen better days, the PRO's suggest the OEM PRObuilt Steering Box Coupler found here.
Kewl Features
American made
7.5 inches of up-and-down movement
Taller shock towers allow for the use of shocks that will work with any ride height adjustment
Industries finest packaging to ensure it will arrive to you unscathed
FAQ
Do I need to do body mods to install this beam? No. The inside dimension is 29 13/16". That gives a clearance of 1/16" on each side.
How do you narrow the beam 4" when I only have 1/2 inch on each side of my stock beam? We utilize the outer ends of the tubes and gusset outwards to give us the needed space. Here is a video that explains it.
Do I need to send in a core? No. The PRO's have a few options for your cores. Check them out here.
Will I need anything in addition to this assembly? No. It's as complete as it comes from the factory.
The front end will be coated apart and assembled to keep the clean look with new hardware. It's set to the medium height setting so that you can adjust it to your liking. It's pre-greased, and alignment will set in a rough application for shipping.
Financing is available during checkout.
What do you think of the old beam build and what do you think of the new beam build?

The Function of Tower Cranes in the Construction of High-Rise Buildings
Any city’s skyline will almost always include a few tower cranes, which are among the largest pieces of construction equipment. Construction companies utilize tower cranes to carry heavy materials like steel and concrete. Large objects like acetylene torches, motors, and generators are also transported using tower cranes.
Because tower cranes are so little in comparison to high-rise buildings, their lifting power is commonly overestimated. How long will the tower crane be able to stay upright without tipping over? How is it possible to raise such a large amount of weight? Is the crane getting taller as the structure gets taller? The basic principles of tower cranes and their functionality will be covered in this article.
Tower Crane Parts
The base, the mast or tower, and the slewing unit are the three primary components of a tower crane.
THE BASE: The crane’s major support is the base. It is supported by a huge concrete foundation that bears the full weight of the structure.
TOWER: The supporting structure that connects the mast to the base determines how tall the crane is. The crane’s strength comes from a huge triangulated lattice structure on the mast.
SLEWING UNIT: The slewing unit, which is attached to the top of the mast and allows the crane to spin around its axis, comprises a gear and motor. The slewing unit, on the other hand, is made up of three pieces.
A horizontal device that carries the load and has a trolley along the length of it to move the weight in and out.
The load-lifting motor is held by the machinery arm, which is a shorter horizontal piece. To maintain balance, it also has electronic controls, a cable drum, and concrete counterweights.
Operator’s cabin: This is the area where the crane operator controls all of the crane’s functions.
Tower Crane Specifications
The following are the parameters of a typical tower crane, but note that they vary based on the type and manufacturer:
265 feet (80 meters) is the maximum unsupported height. Because the building rises around the crane, it may reach greater heights when attached to it.
230 feet (70 meters) is the maximum reach.
Lifting capacity: 19.8 tons (18 metric tons)
20 tons or 16.3 metric tons of counterweights

The Essential Guide to Crane Kits: What They Are and How They Work
Cranes are an essential part of modern construction, manufacturing, and heavy lifting. However, purchasing a fully assembled crane can be expensive and may not always suit every application. This is where crane kits come in. Crane kits provide an affordable and flexible solution, allowing you to assemble a crane tailored to your needs. In this blog, we’ll explore what crane kits are, how they work, and the benefits they bring to businesses and individuals in various industries.
What is a Crane Kit?
A crane kit is a collection of parts and components necessary to assemble a crane. These kits typically include all the major elements like the crane structure, hoist mechanisms, lifting components, and the necessary hardware for assembly. Depending on the type of crane, kits can vary in complexity and size, from simple manual jib cranes to advanced overhead crane systems.
These kits can be purchased from specialized suppliers, and they often include detailed assembly instructions, ensuring that you can build a fully functional crane without needing to hire an expert.
Types of Crane Kits
There are several types of crane kits, each designed for specific tasks and environments. Here are some of the most common types:
1. Jib Crane Kits
Jib cranes are one of the most common types of cranes used in workshops and smaller industrial spaces. They consist of a horizontal arm (the jib) that can rotate around a central post. Jib crane kits are typically designed for lifting lighter loads over shorter distances. They are ideal for applications like moving parts or materials within a workshop or warehouse.
Key Features:
Compact design
Easy to assemble
Manual or electric options
2. Overhead Crane Kits
Overhead cranes, or bridge cranes, are used for lifting heavy loads in large spaces such as factories and warehouses. They consist of a bridge that moves along tracks mounted on the ceiling, with a hoist running along the bridge. Overhead crane kits can be tailored to different sizes and load capacities, making them suitable for everything from small operations to large manufacturing plants.
Key Features:
Ideal for heavy-duty lifting
Suitable for large, open spaces
Can be equipped with electric hoists for efficiency
3. Gantry Crane Kits
Gantry cranes are similar to overhead cranes but are supported by legs that rest on the ground instead of being suspended from the ceiling. These kits are great for outdoor use or environments where a permanent overhead structure is unavailable. They are widely used in construction sites and shipyards for moving large and heavy items.
Key Features:
Ground-supported structure
Perfect for outdoor or rugged environments
Flexible for larger loads
4. Truck-Mounted Crane Kits
Truck-mounted crane kits are designed for mounting on the bed of a truck or trailer, making them highly portable. These cranes are ideal for industries where lifting is required at multiple locations, such as construction, transportation, and utility services. They allow workers to perform lifting tasks while remaining mobile.
Key Features:
Portable and mobile
Ideal for on-site lifting
Can handle heavy loads
Key Components of a Crane Kit
While the exact components may vary depending on the type of crane, most crane kits include the following essential elements:
1. Structural Components
The main frame, beams, columns, and supporting parts make up the crane's structure. These are typically made of steel for strength and durability. For example, an overhead crane kit would include rails and a bridge that span the width of the work area.
2. Hoisting Mechanism
This is the part that lifts and lowers the load. It usually consists of a winch or hoist mechanism, a drum, and a rope or chain. The hoisting mechanism is powered either manually, electrically, or hydraulically, depending on the crane's design.
3. Wheels or Tracks
Cranes that move along a horizontal plane (such as overhead and gantry cranes) require wheels or tracks. These components ensure that the crane can move smoothly along its designated path.
4. Lifting Accessories

1888 - The birth
It all began in 1888 with Frédéric Imhof, who was an artist and made dials for the major clock companies of the day. The adventure began with a single dial maker and quickly grew into a fully-fledged clock manufacturing facility, shipping timepieces to the four corners of the world.
The Manufacture
Arthur decided to branch out on his own, founding the Manufacture de Pendulette d’Art Arthur Imhof S.A. in La Chaux-de-Fonds. Like his father before him, Arthur was an entrepreneur and embarked on an expansion strategy that would integrate the production of clock mechanisms into the business too. One of his missions was also to democratize clock ownership by producing affordable lines that kept the company’s reputation for high-quality timekeepers, but opened up the business to new audiences. In a relatively short period, he was shipping clocks to the Americas, Asia, and beyond.
Singing bird clock Made in Switzerland by ImHof circa 1960. Brass case in a shape of bird cage. The base of the case enclosing a bird automaton mechanism, after activated by a button behind, the bird with colorful feathers will sing and flap its wings.
Swiss Inclined Plane Gravity clock
The know-how that defies gravity in this technical prowess from IMHOF, where the clock traverses the entire plane over the course of one week. At the end of the week, the clock is lifted and replaced at the top of the plane. The drum movement is driven by a large counterweight, regulated by a lever platform escapement, the movement backplate being visible through the glazed back of the drum.
Imhof Tempus Fugit
A rare Imhof swiss globe design table desk clock with 8 day movement made in the 60ies. A luminous globe is held by a brass gold plated decorative stand. The lower part of the shows the hours and the upper part the minutes. Both parts rotate and the time is shown by one hand that is applicated on the case. Signed “tempus fugit”. The highlight of this clock is that it glows in the dark. Rare design, highly collectible.
The Royal Geographical Society This exceptional piece was created in a limited edition in 1981 and features a unique combination of brass and ebonised wood in its design. The clock features a brass globe painted black, with the continents and countries in gold. It also features a Rotating Circle dial that adds to its aesthetic appeal.
The essence, the path, the legacy
Imhof took the beauty of traditional Métiers d’art and combined them with innovative precision horology. Within the walls of the Imhof workshop, a rare fusion of horological savoir-faire and mechanical precision flourished. The Manufacture took the beauty of age-old Métiers d’art and combined them with innovative horology, always pushing the boundaries of what was technologically possible. At the height of its activity, the company’s catalog counted hundreds of exclusive deluxe models that ranged from practical travel alarm clocks to ornamental gem-set table clocks incorporating secret cabinets. Imhof’s artisans crafted period-style models with enamel dials and highly complicated mechanisms including worldtimers, perpetual calendars, mystery clocks, and mechanical movements with eight-day power reserves.
Guardians of tradition
Imhof’s expertise in creating table and pendulum timekeepers made it one of the most popular clock manufacturers of its time and it was often referred to as the “Rolls-Royce of clocks”.
Table and pendulum clocks were extremely popular during the last century and indicated more than just the passage of time within their mechanisms; they were genuine guardians of tradition, witnessing the ebbs and flows of daily life and keeping families on time. Each tick of their mechanisms resonated with shared moments of joy and connection, embedding these timepieces deeply within the fabric of family life. Over the decades, Imhof created a large range of clocks in a myriad of styles and designs. From classic designs to contemporary styles, Arthur Imhof’s mission was to provide the perfect clock for each customer, whatever their personal preference or interior design style. All meticulously crafted in the Imhof workshops, each clock was designed, created, and assembled to the highest standards so that it would become an heirloom, serving generations to come.
A voyage through time
Arthur Imhof saw the rise in travel as an opportunity to produce exciting new clock designs that would allow his clients to track time across the globe.
Famous Imhof creations include the Tower of Berne clock – or Zytglogge as it is referred to in German – which was inspired by the famous medieval clock tower in Switzerland’s capital city of Bern. This Imhof table clock was so successful that it was later reissued to celebrate its 30th anniversary. Equally remarkable is the four-sided Imhof clock that resides in the office of Pope Francis at the Vatican in Rome. This gilt desk clock has four faces that feature the time, a thermometer, a hygrometer, and a barometer. Arthur Imhof’s talent also extended far beyond these majestic timekeepers as he also created desk and table clocks for people to use when traveling, many of which were inspired by his trips around the world. Today, of course, Imhof watches carry this spirit of exploration and can travel anywhere on the wrists of their new owners.
A passion for precision Today, rare and sublime pieces created by Imhof are owned by discerning collectors. Respected for its mastery of watchmaking and its magnificent handcrafted cases in precious metals, the Imhof family was also renowned for creating its own dials, using various enameling and miniature painting techniques, which were true works of art.» Within the Imhof Manufacture, artisans of various decorative arts skills collaborated on each clock, weaving together inspirations from epochs like the Renaissance (XIV), Baroque, Louis XV, and Empire periods. Their catalog of designs overflowed with evocative names like Les Dimensionnelles and Les Astrales, echoing the grandeur of history. For collectors, the attraction of an Imhof creation continues, offering a glimpse into a world where time was not just measured but celebrated.
The launch of the Arthur
A glimmer of hope ignited as renewed interest in Imhof’s timeless creations breathed new life into the brand’s story. The revival began with the launch of the Arthur collection, a tribute to the visionary spirit of the company’s founder. Every step of the journey was infused with emotion, as the new Imhof team delved deep into the brand’s history, forging connections with the past while charting a course for the future. Together, they embarked on a quest to preserve Imhof’s heritage, blending tradition with innovation to craft timepieces worthy of carrying the Imhof legacy into the dawn of a new era.
