Homeless NDA Ministers
IMC WEB DESK NEW DELHI: Indian politics defines transition. Elections saw Modi as the PM heading NDA-led coalition government. Soon after, former Union Ministers asked to vacate their designated homes
NDA goes through changes
Indian politics witnessed weighty changes in 2024. On 7th June 2024, Narendra Modi confirmed the support of 293 MPs to Droupadi Murmu, the President of India. This marked Modi’s third term as Prime Minister and his first-time heading NDA-led coalition government with the Telugu Desam Party of Andhra Pradesh and Janata Dal (United) of Bihar emerging as two primary alliances.
A noticeable step taken by the Directorate of Estates (DoE) under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) surely makes up for a sweeping swap!
DoE served a notice to few of the former Union Ministers in Indian Politics to vacate their official accommodation in Delhi’s Lutyens’ by 10 July as requests for accommodation pour in from newly appointed ministers.
All Union ministers and ministers of state (MoS) in Indian politics are entitled to a ‘Type VIII’ bungalow in Delhi’s Lutyens’. Former ministers have to vacate such an accommodation when they lose their ministerial berth, according to the DoE rules.
NDA-led coalition government have removed thirty-seven formers ministers in from Narendra Modi’s Union Council of Ministers. Indian politics stands synonymous to shifting gears.
Significant leaders in Indian politics namely Smriti Irani, Arjun Munda, R.K Singh, Niranjan Jyoti, Sanjeev Balyan, and Rajeev Chandrashekhar, lost in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. Others, such as Anurag Thakur, Narayan Rane, and Parshottam Rupala, won but did not get a ministerial berth this time. Some, such as Meenakshi Lekhi, did not get a ticket to contest the polls as the BJP replaced them with new faces. When the nation asks what is politics, well this is the face of real Indian Politics.
The DoE notice will be followed by a show cause notice eventually leading to an eviction notice.
Indian politics is often referred as the dance of democracy! While few ministers might still be showing unwillingness to vacate, there are others who have been upfront in changing their designated accommodation.
Former Education minister Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank, who was served with an eviction notice by the Directorate of Estates recently, has also conveyed that he would be vacating the 27, Safdarjung Road bungalow.
Lutyens-Landmark in Indian Politics
Spread across an area of 23.60sqkm, The Lutyens Bungalow Zone is home to the luminaries of Indian Politics as well as high-net-worth individuals with about 3000 government-owned bungalows.
Serving NDA Union ministers were eligible for accommodation as allotted by the DoE. House committees of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha secretariats are the competent authorities to allot accommodation to MPs.
Members are entitled to a licence-fee free flat or hostel accommodation throughout their term of office.
Members are entitled to water supply without payment of charges up to 4000 kl per annum. They are eligible for electricity up to 50,000 units (25,000 units measure on light meter and 25,000 units on power meter or pooled together) per annum beginning from January 1 every year.
Other facilities include- washing of sofa covers and curtains every three months. Furniture within the monetary ceiling of Rs 60,000 in respect of durable furniture.
They are also allowed for a 25 per cent remission in the rent on account of any improvement or addition made to it or any additional service provided thereto by way of furniture, electrical equipment and other services.
Editor’s Note
Around 50 former union ministers and MPs from the last Lok Sabha have been sent notice by DoE to vacate their official accommodation. Home is always closest to ones heart and when it is in the poshest locality of the capital and earned through valid eligibility, the address caries a myriad of meaning for the resident. Apparently it is just might be a regular governmental procedure but delving deep, slight feeling uprootedness might haunt souls of Indian politics.

Dr Kiran Bedi and CBSE Director Dr Biswajit Saha release book on 'Mindful Parenting' by Author Ajayya Kumar
Aug 01, 2022 15:54 IST New Delhi , August 1 (Always First/GPRC): Dr Kiran Bedi and Dr Biswajit Saha released the book of eminent author Ajayya Kumar on 'Mindful Parenting'. The Iconic Police Officer, FMR Puducherry Lieutenant Governor and CBSE Director today made a strong pitch for adopting a new educational approach with a thrust on responsible parenting to minimise crime and help children evolve into conscientious citizens to ensure the prosperity of the nation. They were addressing a function as part of the 'Parenting Dialogues', an initiative by Lifology, a Guinness World Record winning guidance ecosystem, and Ajayya Bharathy Foundation, marking the commencement of a nationwide campaign to create awareness about good parenting that would make teenagers future-ready. Ajayya Kumar, author of the book and management thinker, said he was prompted to write the book to change people's wrongly perceived notion that parenting was a problem and make them realise that it was a selfless and committed act that lasted lifelong. Co-author Praveen Parameswar said parents can and should play a meaningful role like that of a coach for the benefit of all. Dr Kiran Bedi highlighted aspects of the book that inspired her and quoted Ajayya Kumar for the benefit of all parents - "Parenting does not happen in a day, it takes years and years and forever. Remember, once a parent always a parent; You just ought to try to do your best and be the one they run back to always." The book'Mindful Parenting', co-authored by Ajayya Kumar and Praveen Parameswar was introduced in-depth to parents and students in the function held at Birla Vidya Niketan. She pointed out that the present practice of free food, books and uniform to students of government schools was neither preventing drop-outs nor helpful in imparting quality education. On the other hand, the high rate of dropouts was the reason for several heinous crimes like rape and vandalization of property during agitations such as the recent one against the Agniveer scheme introduced by the Central Government offering youth limited period training and employment in the Defence forces, she noted. During visits to various government schools in Puducherry, Dr Bedi said she found that students were coming to their institutions only to avail of the freebies, not to get education, while their parents mostly being illiterate daily wage workers were not in a position to guide their wards. To make matters worse, 75 per cent of the fathers were found to be addicted to liquor, she said. Educational authorities should be entrusted with the task of weaning the parents off addiction by linking the freebies to their changed behaviour, she suggested and expressed the hope that the new President Droupadi Murmu, formerly a school teacher, would bring about a positive change in the way education is being imparted. Dr Saha, CBSE Director, who was the guest of honour at the function, said the new education policy was focused on quality education at the primary and secondary levels as this was the age when students could be moulded to excel in education, besides becoming responsible citizens. He appealed to educational researchers in the country to conduct their own studies, instead of depending on suggestions from the West. CBSE would support its 27,000 schools, where about 10 per cent of the country's students were studying, without affecting their autonomy, he added. Birla Vidya Niketan Principal Minakshi Kushwaha exhorted with the parents to be role models for their children, instead of giving only advices which they themselves were not practising. Rahul J Nair, Chief Lifologist and Dr Meghana Nathani Kabra, Sr Consultant, Batra Hospital & Medical Research Centre, also spoke. This story is provided by GPRC. Mr Das was the first Chief Minister in the state to complete a five-year term but the BJP's tally came down to 25 this time. From 2009 to 2013, he was the deputy of Chief Minister Arjun Munda, when the party supported the BJP-led government.
