Terrace House News

So, on the MRIAD Discord, MikaTheMad is writing a fic inspired by Terrace House. I became inspired, so this is a collection of online reactions, articles and blogs reacting to what happens in the fic.  

Terrace House returns for season 4! Meet the contestants below!

It’s that time of the year again! Summer is coming and we should be outside exercising, enjoying the new plants and saluting the sun.

But, we know that’s not happening, don’t we? Because we here at DramaLine are going to curl up in front of our TV and watch the newest season of Terrace House, the reality show about six strangers moving in together to find true love. It’s cute, sweet and just what we need to get us through our loveless evenings. So, let’s meet the six new contestants!

Lu Yao (24)

The son of a senator, Lu Yao was sent to England to study medicine at Cambridge! The brainiac returned to Shanghai and turned away from the family business. Instead, Lu Yao started a cooking channel on Youtube. Here, he cooks foods of the world for his twenty five million subscribers. Different Chinese and Asian cuisines feature heavily, along with European foods. He seems to have a particular fondness for pasta and desserts of all kinds! With those eyes and cooking skills, we think he’ll have the house falling at his feet on no time.

Qiao Chusheng (27)

Hello handsome! Qiao Chusheng was adopted by conglomerate owner Bai Qili at age ten. A successful martial artist, Qiao Chusheng has won numerous national and international kickboxing competitions, ranked in the top ten in the world! He runs his own martial arts school, where he teaches, what else, kickboxing. Qiao Chusheng is often seen with a different woman on his arm, but will the playboy fall for someone in the house and find his one true love? Only time will tell.

Bai Youning (26)

This young lady will be a polarising figure. Daughter of Bai Qili and adopted sister of Qiao Chusheng, Bai Youning describes herself as an intrepid investigative reporter. But she works for the Evening Mail, which let’s be honest, not the most reputable paper. Describing herself as a daddy’s girl who only has to ask for something to get it, is Bai Youning prepared to put in the work to find her one true love? Can she use those investigative skills and find the love of her life? Let’s wait and see.

Tong Li (26)

A singer on the cusp of greatness, Tong Li has said she isn’t entering the house to find love. She first entered the public eye when her father died in suspicious circumstances and Tong Li was found close to death near him. Since then, she has lived with her mother, living a quiet life. Last year, her mother passed away and Tong Li released her first single, to some minor success. By entering the house Tong Li hopes to gain more fans and achieve success. But will she find love and inspiration along the way?

Zou Jing (25)

Also studied at Cambridge, but, sad to say, her and Lu Yao didn’t cross paths. Zou Jing studied Economics and Commerce, returning home to start her own business. An up and coming social entrepreneur, Zou Jing gives money to climate charities and animal foundations and her Weibo is full of dog pictures. Describing herself as hardworking and serious, Zou Jing also likes to have fun and wants to date an active animal lover, who’ll help make her business even stronger! Maybe she’ll meet Mr. Right?

Jiang Zhijing (29)

A government worker, not much is known about Jiang Zhijing. Described by co-workers as dedicated to his job and boss, they were surprised that Jiang Zhijing made the decision to be on the show! He has said that he wants to find a wife, but personally, I think there’s something suspicious about this guy. I’ve been proven wrong before though, so who knows? Maybe Jiang Zhijing will be a good guy and will find true love. Weirder things have happened in Terrace House.

Terrace House Season 4 Episode 1 – Reactions

Well, here they are folks. The new cast mates. And what a cast! For someone who said she isn’t looking for a relationship, Tong Li wastes no time! But who can blame her? I wouldn’t mind seeing Qiao Chusheng working out any time of the day.

We said Bai Youning would be a polarising figure and on her first day, has she already made an enemy of the adorable Lu Yao? If so, maybe her older brother, Qiao Chusheng, will have to come to her aid. Within the first episode, Youning had also argued with Tong Li and got the verbal smackdown of a lifetime, video embedded below for your enjoyment. Zou Jing has decided to stay out of it, instead spending her time getting to know the house and other contestants.

Mystery of the season is Jiang Zhijing. Sure, he works in the government, but does that mean he has to be out drinking every night? Is there something else going on here that we don’t know about? Maybe he’s one we need to keep our eyes on.

I know it is way too early to have favourites, but I have favourites! Lu Yao and Qiao Chusheng own my little fangirl heart. Let’s start with Qiao Chusheng. Following him to his school was a genius idea. Seeing him with little kids, teaching them? I thought I would die from the cuteness, especially when that adorable little girl gave him the bow to stop his hair falling into his eyes. I may have squealed. A lot.

We always knew that Lu Yao was sugar personified, but cooking Tong Li her favourite meal after a bad day in the studio really just proved his sweetness. Could a romance blossom between these two? Probably not, I think Lu Yao needs someone who’ll spoil him and look after him. Tong Li might be a bit too domineering for him.

There is something weird about Jiang Zhijing. Did anyone else see how he looked at Lu Yao when he first walked into the house? Almost like he recognised him. But Lu Yao has no idea who he is. There’s something fishy about this guy.

Well, Jiang Zhijing does work in the government. Maybe he’s seen Lu Yao’s father around and recognised him as the son of a senator. If I saw the son of a senator in a reality tv setting I’d be confused!

I am in love with Lu Yao! I already subscribed to his Youtube channel, but never realised how sweet he was. He talks about his family on there sometimes, but things seem to be tense in the Lu clan. Poor guy.

As always, a short but sweet recap that nails all the important points. I’ve followed the show and DramaLine’s recaps for 3 seasons and this is one I’m really excited about! There might be some serious relationships here. Not Tong Li and Qiao Chusheng. I think they’re too similar to ever work out, but there’s nothing wrong with a physical relationship. Zou Jing needs to do something to get noticed, but Bai Youning needs to be noticed less. As for Jiang Zhijing? I need another episode or two to form any opinions. We didn’t see enough of him.

The standouts so far though? Without a doubt, Qiao Chusheng and Lu Yao. Complete opposites, but they seem to be forming a fast friendship in the house. Maybe it’ll lead to something more? It would be nice to see some representation on the screen. But we’ll just have to wait and see, won’t we?
