my roman empire is the fact that dr. ratio couldn't get into the genius society because of how much he cares for others. my roman empire is the fact that the way that he loves and has too much empathy will be his own downfall. my roman empire is the fact that he spent so long thinking that he was enough only to be hit with the reality that the world and life is cruel and his heart is too soft for the universe he was born into.

can we talk about the isolation that comes with being a genius? can we talk about the reason why dr. ratio might come off as cruel and harsh is because he never had any friends nor learned how to be kind? can we talk about how he's stern because he wants his students to succeed, but never learned how to say it in a gentle manner? can we talk about how he's probably autistic, and how that made things worse for him in the social department?

can we talk about the dehumanization that comes with being a person with intellect. the loneliness and the way that it eats at you.

it must have been so fucking lonely, being a middle school kid who's up in university level classes. surrounded by people who are so much older than you, and since you're a kid, nobody wants to talk to you. you can't talk to the kids your age because you're too busy studying.

what else is there to do but improve, and live up to the expectations set for you?

"Im home" You hear a faint creak through the door, Ratio's shadow casting ahead as he places his bag on the dining table. He sees you on the couch, laying down, not doing anything. "You havent moved since I left this morning. What were you thinking??" He muttered in a sarcastic tone. though many others could never tell when Veritas was joking, you thankfully, could. To Ratio's surprise, instead of a snarky remark, he only recieved unpleasant groaning from you. "..? Love?"

You looked up weakly, your eyes slightly blurry. You see the worry and concern etched in his face as you didnt respond to his snarky remark. he kneels to your level, taking note of your slight tremble under the blanket. He places his warm hand on your forehead as you instincitvely leaned closer to the warmth. "A fever...hm" He stands, patting your head before going off to your shared bedroom. You hear faint grumbles of

"Where is it..." "Where did I last put it??"

and some boxes falling down.

You heard his footsteps grow louder and before you knew it, he kneeled down to your level with a glass of water and medicine in hand. "Can you sit on your own..? I suppose not..." He whispers, shaking his head as he helps you sit up, wincing slightly as he felt your hot temperature. He guides your head to drink the medicine as he whispers words of "There we go...Just a bit more for me..." to you. His muscular frame helped you stay warm as you leaned to his touch. He places his arms under your back and legs, carrying you to your shared bedroom.

He gently laid you down on the bed, his touch delicate. He covers you up and lays next to you. He often hated laying down on the bed without showering first, but he knew that you desperately needed it. "Didnt I tell you to stop overworking? You fool...now look what youve gotten yourself into..tsk"

He mutters, burying his head in your hair. He holds you tight, his embrace keeping you from shivering.

"Please rest sweetheart... I love you. Ill be here when you wake up.." He mutters, pressing kisses to your forehead. He grabs his phone, cancelling his classes for his students tomorrow so he could watch over you. As you slept, time to time he would check your temperature and whisper soft words of reassurances (that he wouldnt say when youre awake since he declared it as "foolish").

extra headcanons: - For the next few weeks he makes sure to check on you during work to make sure you take a break

He cooks you healthy meals and would force you to eat it.

He would be the type to do work in bed as you sleep, watching over you still

He will get you small trinkets to try and make you feel better since he knows you like iy
