you gulp as valeria walks towards you, her steps measured and slow. she is smiling but her eyes, pools of molten chocolate – viscous, velvety, and addicting – watch you with ferocity, something that is almost too unkind.

“maybe i do,” you finally say, your breath hitching when she finally stops in front of you.

she cocks her hips to the side, her lips pursing in thought. you know it is the wrong time to notice so but you eye the way her tactical gear fails to hide her curves – trimmed waist sloping into rounded hips.

you would’ve breathed in deeply had she not entered your personal space; her scent – spice and ozone – teasing your sensitive nose.

“distracted, mi bella?” valeria’s voice curls, crooning into something condescending.

but gods, she makes you weak – bones turning to liquid; ribs creaking at the intensity of your beating heart. if she asks, you would go down to your knees in front of her.

“for you?” you hear yourself utter. “i always am.”

the nuzzle of her gun kisses your side but you do not take heed of it. not when valeria ghosts her lips along your chin, carefully heading north until it hovers just above your own trembling lips.

she breathes you in, and then, “good girl.”

Dr. Garza: Well, I’m afraid we can’t pursue that at this time because, according to your bloodwork… Dawn, you’re already pregnant. Dawn: I’m sorry, what? Phoenix: Are you sure? Dr. Garza: I’m sure.

Dawn: I don’t understand. I haven’t felt… I’m not sick. Last time I was so sick. Dr. Garza: Symptoms can vary between pregnancies. Your circumstances now are also very different now than they were then. And you may still develop symptoms.   Dawn: Right. So, do we know if… I mean, what are the chances... [voice cracks] I’m sorry. Dr. Garza: [handing Dawn a tissue] It’s okay. Given your history, I’ve booked the ultrasound so we can check on the health of the baby today and get an idea of how far along you are. I have no reason to believe there’s anything wrong at this point, okay?

[Dawn nods, wiping her eyes]

Dr. Garza: Like last time, we’ll do a transvaginal ultrasound. You’ll want to empty your bladder, and then undress from the waist down. I’ll leave a gown here for you and be back in a few minutes. Dawn: Okay. Thank you.

Dawn: You’re awfully quiet. Are you okay? Phoenix: Yeah. Just nervous. Are you okay? Dawn: I think so. I can’t believe we’re here again. How fertile are you? Commentary: Trump is using his racism to regain power. Silence will let him ride bigotry to another term

Donald Trump's closing campaign rally at Madison Square Garden on Sunday was a stunningly racist display where speakers mocked Latinos, Jews and Palestinians, likened the event to a "Nazi rally" and called Puerto Rico a "floating island of garbage." It was capped by a 78-minute speech in which the former president repeatedly attacked the intellect of the first woman of color to lead a major party presidential ticket, calling Vice President Kamala Harris "a vessel” who “can’t put two sentences together."

In the final weeks of the presidential campaign, Trump is treading dangerously familiar ground, spewing a torrent of racist and xenophobic insults, threats and lies as he escalates his attacks on immigrants and non-white Americans.

As a U.S.-born Latino and white man whose father came from Central America, I am angry and disappointed that so many Americans, from everyday people to the most powerful figures, are willing to ignore or downplay Trump's dehumanizing language and behavior. It is incredibly distressing that so many in our country still don't think that Trump's litany of racist remarks, his embrace of neo-Nazi conspiracies, his dictatorial plans for a second term and his vile attacks on immigrants are enough to disqualify him.

As a member of The Times' editorial board, which has repeatedly and fearlessly made the case that Trump is uniquely dishonest and dangerous to American democracy, it especially stings to see The Times now among those institutions that have chosen the cowardly path of silence.

I am writing this under my own name, and not on behalf of The Times' editorial board, because of Times owner Dr. Patrick Soon-Shiong's decision to block an endorsement of Vice President Kamala Harris for president. A five-part series of editorials making the case against Trump that was supposed to be published with the Harris endorsement was also spiked. I agree with Mariel Garza, who wrote in her resignation letter as editorials editor last week that in these dangerous times, silence is complicity.

Now is the time to stand resolutely against Trump's racism and xenophobia, which flows more freely than ever, from the falsehoods he has spread about Haitian migrants eating pets, his calling Harris “retarded” and "low IQ," and his threats to use the Alien Enemies Act, a 1798 wartime statute, to get rid of migrants. His former chief of staff, John Kelly, revealed that while in office, Trump repeatedly made comments praising Adolf Hitler, such as, “You know, Hitler did some good things, too.” Kelly recently warned that Trump meets the definition of a fascist and would rule like a dictator. That should set off every conceivable alarm bell.

Despite it all, Trump is polling within a few points of Harris, who, as a former senator, state attorney general and prosecutor, has spent her career upholding American ideals and is exceptionally qualified to lead. It's infuriating that so many neighbors, coworkers and peers support a man who has called his political enemies “vermin" and said immigrants are “poisoning the blood of our country,” the same language that Hitler and the Nazi Party used to justify the Holocaust.

History is full of examples of authoritarian leaders who used xenophobic and racist rhetoric to stoke fear and hatred and fuel their rise or return to power. Trump is turning up his bigotry because it works.

Trump launched his political career by stoking the embers of white racial resentment. He announced his candidacy 10 years ago by attacking Mexican immigrants as “rapists.” He then called for “a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States” and he used his executive authority to begin carrying it out one week after taking office. President Biden revoked those actions on his first day in office.

A second Trump term would be worse, with fewer checks on his power. He's already said he would bring back his Muslim ban, including barring refugees from Gaza and other "terror-infested areas" and he wants to round up and deport millions of immigrants and even target the removal of people who entered the country legally. He wants to end birthright citizenship.

One-quarter of the U.S. population is either foreign-born or has at least one immigrant parent. That figure, by the way, includes Trump himself — his mother was an immigrant from Scotland — his first wife and his current wife and four of his five children from three marriages. But when he blames immigrants for society’s woes, he’s not referring to white people.

He has questioned why the U.S. should accept Black immigrants from Haiti and “shithole countries” in Africa rather than from “nice” majority-white countries like Norway, Denmark and Switzerland. U.S. citizens, and even members of Congress or the U.S. military, are not spared. He has told four American congresswomen of color to “go back” to their countries, and according to recent reporting in the Atlantic, complained in an Oval Office meeting about fulfilling his promise to help pay for the funeral of murdered U.S. Army Private Vanessa Guillén, saying “it doesn’t cost 60,000 bucks to bury a f— Mexican!”

Trump has a decades-long record of racism and discrimination, and of belittling and demeaning non-white people as dumb, inferior and not real Americans. His political rise came from peddling the racist "birther" lie that the nation’s first Black president was not a natural-born citizen, forcing Barack Obama to release his long-form birth certificate. He has followed the same pattern with the insults he has flung at Harris and by questioning whether she is really Black.

I fear deeply for our country if Trump succeeds in fanning the flames of racial resentment and hatred to regain power. And it pains me that still others remain undecided or stay silent at a such a perilous moment for our nation. With the race alarmingly close, it's time for all Americans of conscience to use their votes and their voices and to stop a hateful demagogue.

Communist History Of V. P. Kamala Harris

 This is a really revealing history of of this nation's Vice President and presidential candidate. It is a long article but is necessary because it is so very important for you to know. This editorial is by Major General Higginbotham U.S. Marines (Ret)

This timely editorial that exposes the hidden background of Kamala Harris is from the Combat Veterans for Congress Political Action Committee. It is posted here with permission of the author. CVFC PAC supports the election of US military combat veterans to the US Senate and House of Representatives.

The editorial begins:

Kamala Harris' father was an avowed Marxist professor in the Economics Department at Stanford University in Palo Alto, CA. Both of Harris' parents were active in the Berkeley based Afro-American Association; Fidel Castro and Che Guevara were the heroes of the Afro-American Association. The group's leader, Donald Warden (aka Khalid al-Mansour), mentored two young Afro-American Association members, Huey Newton and Bobby Seale; they created the Maoist inspired Black Panther Party which gained strong support from Communist China; the Black Panther Party served as the model for creation of the Black Lives Matter Marxist organization Khalid al-Mansour subsequently went on to arrange financing and facilitated for Barack Hussein Obama to be accepted as a student to matriculate at Harvard Law School.

Following her graduation from college, Harris returned to California and subsequently became the mistress of the 60-year-old married Speaker of the California Assembly, Willie Brown, Jr. Brown's political campaigns were supported and funded by Dr. Carlton Goodlett, the owner of The Sun Reporter and several other pro-Communist newspapers. Brown was elected as Mayor of San Francisco, and strongly endorsed Harris' Marxist political philosophy; he guided Harris' political rise in California politics, leading to her election as California's Attorney General. Willie Brown, Jr. is a well-known long-time Communist sympathizer.

Willie Brown, Jr. was initially elected to public office with substantial help of the Communist Party USA. Today, Willie Brown is widely regarded as one of the Chinese Communist Party's best friends in the San Francisco Bay Area. While serving as San Francisco District Attorney, Kamala Harris mentored a young San Francisco Radical Maoist activist, Lateefah Simon, who was a member of the STORM Revolutionary Movement; Simon currently chairs the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) Board. Simon has always been close friends with the founder of Black Lives Matter Marxist Domestic Terrorists, Alicia Garza, as well as STORM member and avowed Communist, Van Jones. Harris has been openly and aggressively supporting Black Lives Matter Marxists; Kamala Harris is still closely associated with Maoist Lateefah Simon and Marxist Alicia Garza.

 Kamala Harris's sister Maya Harris was a student activist at Stanford University. She was a closely associated with Steve Phillips, one of the leading Marxist-Leninists on campus and a long-time affiliate with the League of Revolutionary Struggle, a pro-Chinese Communist group. Phillips came out of the Left, and in college he studied Marx, Mao, and Lenin, and maintained close associations with fellow Communists. Phillips married into the multi billion dollar Sandler family of the Golden West Savings and Loan Fortune. He funded many leftist political campaigns, and the voter registration drives in the Southern and South Western states in order to help his friend, Barack Hussein Obama, defeat Hillary Clinton.

Phillips has been a major financial sponsor for Kamala Harris's political campaigns for various California elective offices. Harris' husband, Doug Emhoff works for the law firm DLA Piper, which "boasts nearly 30 years of experience in Communist China with over 140 lawyers dedicated to its 'Communist China investment Services' branch. He was just appointed to Professor at Yale to school future lawyers in the fine points of Communism. When she was elected to the US Senate,Kamala Harris appointed a Pro-Communist Senate Chief of Staff, Karine Jean-Pierre. Jean-Pierre was active with the New York-based Haiti Support Network. The organization worked closely with the pro-Communist China/Communist North Korea Workers World Party and supported Jean-Bertrand Aristide, the far-left Communist former president of Haiti and the radical Lavalas movement.
