History
December 10, 1896 - Swedish chemist Alfred Nobel died at San Remo, Italy. His will stipulated that income from his $9 million estate be used for awards recognizing persons who have made valuable contributions to humanity. Nobel recipients are chosen by a committee of the Norwegian parliament. Prizes for Peace, Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Literature and Economics are presented annually in a ceremony in Stockholm, Sweden, on the anniversary of his death. Each prize is valued at about $1 million.
December 10, 1898 - The Treaty of Paris was signed between American and Spanish representatives following Spain's defeat in the Spanish-American War. Under the treaty, the U.S. gained the Philippine Islands, the islands of Guam and Puerto Rico, and an agreement by Spain to withdraw from Cuba. The treaty passed by a single vote in the U.S. Senate on February 6, 1899, and was signed by President William McKinley four days later.
December 10, 1941 - During World War II, British Battleships Repulse and Prince of Wales were sunk by Japanese warplanes in the South China Sea, killing nearly 800 crewmen.
December 10, 1948 - The General Assembly of the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
December 10, 1950 - Dr. Ralph Bunche became the first African American man awarded the Nobel Peace Prize, for his efforts in mediation between Israel and nearby Arab states the previous year.
December 10, 1989 - The first non-Communist government since 1948 assumed power in Czechoslovakia.
Birthday - Educator Thomas Gallaudet (1787-1851) was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He co-founded the American School for the Deaf in Hartford, Connecticut, in 1817.
Birthday - Poet Emily Dickinson (1830-1886) was born in Amherst, Massachusetts. Her poetry became known only after her death when her sister discovered nearly 2,000 poems locked in her bureau, written on the backs of envelopes and scraps of paper. They were published gradually over the next 50 years, beginning in 1890.
Birthday - American librarian Melvil Dewey (1851-1931) was born in Adams Center, New York. He invented the Dewey decimal book classification system, advocated spelling reform, and urged use of the metric system.

The Coroner by: Jennifer Graeser Dornbush 05-18-2024
I listened to the audio book version of this book, and it was good. In this book, Dr. Emily Hartford goes back to her childhood home because her father, the town medical examiner had a heart attack, and winds up performing an autopsy on a dead teenage girl that turn out to be murder. Now, with her fiance going gung ho with wedding preparation, Emily rekindles her friendship with her…

And The Nominees Are… (Part 2/2)
#younghowzetheatreawards
By Ricky and Dana Young-Howze
Mays Landing, NJ
Venmo: @rndyounghowze
The nominations for the first ever Young-Howze Theatre Awards are finally here! We have been working hard since March of 2020 reviewing over a hundred and forty digital productions. We have been poring over them all since January to bring you these categories and the shows vying for them.
Tumblr media
Let’s remind everyone what our criteria were: Because of the pandemic this year every show that we have reviewed was nominated for at least one category. We picked winners by a very specific set of criteria: What was this show attempting to do? Was it successful? Was it the most successful of all the shows that tried to do this? We apologize to anyone who thought that we would be announcing winners today. We decided that we wanted to save all of the spoilers for the live show on February 21st at 8PM EST. Please remember that even if you only get one nomination it is because we wanted to honor everyone who worked hard this year (every theatre artist who did a show this year deserves a medal). However we understand that specific nominations are useful for theatre creators in their resumes, grant applications etc.
All Nominees should receive a nomination email from us. If you haven’t gotten an email by Monday 11:59pm PST email is at [email protected]
Congratulations everyone! We are so proud of your accomplishments and amazing work. We’ve already seen shows this year that are award worthy. You all exceeded our expectations. Without further ado...

IT'S PRIDE MONTH
for a moment there I accidentally had Pierce's photo under Marian's name oop
Time to officially confirm some AU canon LGBT stuff! Each character is their own pride flag but I'll add in other stuff that's canon in universe plus some bonus stuff at the bottom.
First up is Freddy Fazbear Jr! Gay all the way.
Tumblr media
He's definitely the "move I'm gay" type
Was honestly super freaked out to tell his dad but went with the bold approach of bringing home his first boyfriend and blatantly announcing their relationship as such as a challenge and was honestly surprised his dad wasn't bothered by it
He was around 13 at the time and so the twins and Fred were still in touch with Maddie's parents and brother. All three were incredibly supportive (and still would be)
He absolutely had a crush on Bonnie Burnette even though he had never talked to him. Since the twins and Bonnie went to the same high school he knew of Bonnie, thought he was a dreamboat, but because Bonnie was somehow in with the popular kids (it was the money 100%) Freddy didn't even bother
Frankie Fazbear! My ace son! (The ears are wrong blame the app lol)
Tumblr media
Honestly doesn't even know he's ace until much later
He's had crushes before but he's never been in a relationship (part of it is the attempt to communicate since he's mute sort of stops him)
He wasn't even sure it was worth mentioning to his dad so Fred never knew
This boy can hold so much love in his heart but he's not a very physical person that's all
Fred Fazbear Sr! YES. HE'S BI.
Tumblr media
Only Maddie even knew he was bi. That he knew of. Some people probably figured it out with his over the top always on personality.
Fred was constantly sure that Pierce picked up on it particularly after the Christmas mistletoe fiasco but if Pierce gave a shit he never said anything.
Frankly it was amazing that more people didn't pick up on it. He was over the top about everything until a point.
While he didn't overreact to his son very blatantly announcing he had a boyfriend, he was very proud of him. It was a very Fazbear family way to come out. Even though he got so distant, he was always proud of his boys.
Bonnie Burnette! Also bi!
Tumblr media
Being constantly surrounded by the popular crowd and always being the sort of stand out with purple hair and stupid purple bunny ears didn't do much to make Bonnie feel like he could even tell anyone he was bi.
Really the only reason he was even in the popular crowd was he was rich.
It made him less of a target for bullies at least cause the jocks wouldn't stand for anyone messing with him.
Knew Frankie from math class and honestly wished he could have talked to the quiet kid with bear ears as an alternative to the entirety of the popular group
Sort of in the background of the AU story very quietly develops a crush on Freddy and then thinks "oh God I like the troublemaker NO"
Chandler Cicily! Lesbian!
Tumblr media
Would absolutely describe her sexuality as "girls"
She's starting to discover it during the AU (even if it's not a topic that comes up but that's why there's this post about stuff lmao).
She's the baby of the group since she's 16 when the story starts and relationships aren't important to her yet
But the crew still support her when later she's like "maybe I just wanna bake things for a cute girl and let her put flowers in my hair is that too much to ask" (Marian always chimes in with "mood")
Tumblr media
Marian Mengele! An absolute bi icon!
Listen, her one goal in life may be to find her lost childhood friend, but that doesn't mean she's solely interested in this one Irish redhead
That said she's definitely only dated redheads
She's not afraid to be open about her orientation. It doesn't bother her. She's seen as weird already what can it hurt.
That said she falls for Finn so goddamn fast when she finds him that she questions herself and then is like "no wait I'm definitely not straight"
She's very upfront with Finn about it. There's no reason to hide this from him (or anyone) and if they're a thing she wants him to know.
Finn being the wonderful human being still loves her and it doesn't bother him. Why should it? He's just happy to be with someone who loves him.
Chetana might be Chandler's fake big sister but Marian is like fake mama when it comes to Chandler finally coming out.
God bless Finn for being the kind of person to sit and let Marian braid his hair with flowers because that's one of Marian's favorite things to do when her partner has longer hair and Finn's never really bothered with keeping his hair short THESE TWO ARE ICONIC I love them
Pierce Graves! A shitty pansexual icon
Tumblr media
First off he absolutely knew that Fred wasn't 100% straight he had no idea how it wasn't immediately obvious to everyone
That said Pierce literally did not give a shit who knew about his sexuality
As shitty as his whole personality was he could turn on the charm easily
His parents definitely knew but he was already a punk ass rebellious teen at the time so they have him the "be careful, don't get anyone pregnant" talk and worried from afar. If it bothered them, Pierce never knew because they made sure that he could still count on them (even though at the time Pierce didn't really talk to them much about anything)
Fred absolutely knew though I mean they were good friends
He's not a romantic. He's never really had a meaningful relationship because he's not that type of person. To be honest, there's a piece of him that saw relationships that worked and wondered how that would feel but he knew that wasn't for him. He figured that out way early on when he asked his granddad why he didn't have a grandma and Mortimer Graves didn't sugarcoat the answer. "She wasn't happy with me. I gave her the choice. She could stay and be miserable with my lack of a decent personality even though I was already struggling to not be such an ass or she could go and find someone who actually made her happy. She chose happiness, and while it sucks that she drifted out of my life and your dad's, she's better off."
Pierce could frankly always tell that he was more like his granddad and as much as he sometimes wanted to know if he could even out up with a meaningful relationship, he avoided it. Better to not hurt anyone and wonder than to become the catalyst for someone else to overcome, right?
Fritz Smith! Gay!
Tumblr media
The shy bumbling mechanic of the early 90s Freddy's ? Gay? It's more likely than you think
He was still far in the closet in the 90s He was young, living at home still because he had just gotten out of school, and while his parents weren't super conservative, he also didn't know how they'd take it
Found a friend in the day guard Mike Schmidt early on. Mike was looking for a roommate since his last one had moved out and Fritz jumped at the chance
They are like totally boyfriends by the time they cameo in the story though
Mike Schmidt! Another gay icon!
Tumblr media
Mostly invited Fritz to live at his apartment because he felt bad that this poor shy mechanic was getting constantly harangued about the animatronics having problems
Was glad to let Fritz complain about it and even cry it was very stressful but Fritz needed the money
Mike liked him. It would be hard not to really. Fritz was a sweetheart.
Mike didn't ask him out till much later though he wasn't quite sure that Fritz was gay and didn't want to ruin their friendship.
Luckily it didn't and as it turns out they worked well in a relationship.
Fritz's parents had to take some time to get used to it when finally Fritz got the nerve to tell them but as soon as they did there was no end of support from them
Mike's parents were the opposite which was mainly why he already lived by himself but oh well he got a cute boyfriend and cool parents-in-law later it was kind of a win
Daniel Hartford-Dunn! Gay!
Tumblr media
Presenting Maddie's older brother!
outside universe fact, he's loosely based in my actual cousin who lives in California with his husband.
He's 7 years older than Maddie was. Despite that, they were still close. Maddie's parents wanted more kids but struggled to get the two they had.
He's an accountant for a corporation and his boyfriend (and later his husband) is a pilot.
Last time he saw his nephews in person was at Maddie's funeral. He misses them terribly but over the years less and less contact came from his brother in law
Sometime in 2006 though he ends up getting a call from his nephews and there's this great reunion.
He's just. This chill older guy. Who loves his family. And doesn't care what people think.
Since I can't put anymore photos, here's the bonus content!
-as mentioned last night Dr. Phillip Guy is on the ace spectrum. I don't have anymore details about that at the moment unfortunately.
-Charlie Emily is a lesbian. The Emily twins were born in 1980. They haven't appeared in the AU yet even as cameos but they exist. Considering in AU canon the Emily family is alive and well in Hurricane, Utah without an Afton to be found, Charlie's dating her childhood friend Jessica at around the time the AU events are happening.
-Sammy Emily is trans and bi. Both Henry and his wife (who I know I at one point named but don't remember what it is anymore) love their two daughters to pieces.
That said I'll make a post at a later point introducing the Emily family because so far I've only officially given the design for Henry and not the rest.
In line with canon, Spring Bonnie/Springtrap can be counted as gay.
While Fred kept the shows at the diner pretty simple and straightforward, there was definitely this subtle underlying idea that Spring Bonnie and Fredbear were a content gay couple although if asked it was easy to present them as friends. At least, that was during '81-'82
However!
Fred also had Henry help him program in a special one time only song called Springtime for his and Maddie's anniversary in 1983, which was of course a love song. Fred always thought of that as being mostly for his wife, and partially as a turning point thematically for the two characters.
Henry was on board with this. They still kept it subtle, but there were clear moments where it was pretty much certain that the only way to interpret Spring Bonnie and Fredbear was as a couple. It was either so subtle that no one was bothered or Spring Bonnie's chosen voice was so ambiguously non-binary that no one thought it was odd.
Fred had plans for it to become more "canon" but never got to implement them since Spring Bonnie got damaged before he could.
Springtrap, being sentient and able to later interpret his emotions, is very confused about how he as a machine was meant to feel about this character he knew but the more sentient he becomes the more aware he is that he misses Fredbear and that he loved him. It's the cause of a lot of internal conflict for him. But he can be counted in the category of LGBT characters in the AU.
Happy pride month ya'll! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍🌈

+3, LIZZIE ASTOR, THYLANE DAVENPORT, WYLIE HARTFORD
( MACKENZIE MAUZY. 30. SHE/HER. CISFEMALE. ) LIZZIE ASTOR + OPEN, - DOMINEERING.
lizzie is a trust fund baby from the upper east side, who recently moved to kola to write the novel she’s been saying she was going to write since she was in high school. it’s based on her life and very gossip girl, though she claims her main character is much more well-rounded than blair waldorf.  she has a bungalow on the beach, but spends a lot of her time writing at the local coffeeshop.
( BLAKE LIVELY. 32. SHE/HER. CISFEMALE. ) THYLANE DAVENPORT, + INTUITIVE, - CONNIVING.
it’s possible you’ve heard about thylane’s exploits. of course, you’d never know, because she’s always using a fake name. her newest name/identity, is the closest to who she actually is. thylane, born taylor hawkins, has been on the run since she was 18, when she killed her abusive foster brother.
aside from that, she’s also embezzled a few hundred thousand dollars from an ex-boyfriend, and set another ex-boyfriend up for murder.
now, she lives a lavish life, but she’s always worried that her past is going to catch up to her. the last thing she wants to do is have to answer to all the shit she’s done. she wants to settle down and start a life she can be proud of.
tl;dr, she’s lowkey emily nelson from a simple favor. no shame.
( JAMIE BLACKLEY. 27. HE/HIM. CISMALE. ) WYLIE HARTFORD, + ENTHUSIASTIC, - ABRASIVE.
he’s in a band and works at a record store and is kinda a douche tbh but he can be sweet when/if he wants to. he was born in vermont and moved to kola when he was twenty, hoping that if he was closer to los angeles, his little garage band could make it big time.

Trolley Campaigners Storm Small Towns and Votes for Women is the Battle Cry
By Kathleen Motes Bennewitz
“The Connecticut Woman Suffrage Association (CWSA) continues to stir the State with its unique trolley campaign,” penned The Woman’s Journal, a venerable weekly published in Boston, on March 2, 1912. The suffrage drive being extolled was the “Votes for Women Trolley Campaign,” the tactical innovation of CWSA state organizer Emily Pierson. For three months—from January 24 to March 21—the campaign held rallies at every municipality with trolley stops—46 in all—in Fairfield, New Haven, and Hartford counties.
“Votes for Women Automobile Tour Through Litchfield County,” August 1911 – Courtesy of Dr. Kenneth Florey
The trolley campaign built on the success of the CWSA’s August 1911 “Votes for Women Automobile Tour through Litchfield County.” On that benchmark campaign, “the quiet tree-lined streets” of 27 towns were “invaded by automobiles” carrying parties of recent college graduates and state suffrage leaders. The women, along with guest speakers, galvanized audiences at meetings, adding new members and equal franchise leagues along the way.
For the lengthier winter trolley campaign, Pierson strategically leveraged a more expansive transportation network operated by the Connecticut Company, which at its peak in the 1910s ran over 2,200 cars on nearly 800 miles of track. Her route, planned along lines running from the New York border at Greenwich to the Massachusetts line near Suffield, made for an affordable, convenient way to travel to the events. Also central to the plan was that Fairfield, New Haven, and Hartford counties collectively contained 78 of the state’s 168 municipalities and 75 percent of the general population, which had grown exponentially with surges in immigration. By attracting large, broad audiences from the local and neighboring communities to its rallies, the CWSA sought to expand its support base, fund-raise, and win over voting men as well as influential citizens and legislators to help support woman’s franchise in upcoming sessions of the General Assembly.
Another newsworthy element was the speaker roster of over 80 prominent public figures and reformers from Connecticut, across the nation, and England. The remarkable list included US senators, a state governor, college presidents and professors, labor union leaders, and such notables as Inez Mullholland, Anna Howard Shaw, Jane Addams, Rheta Childe Dorr, and English suffragists Ethel M. Arnold, Margaret G. Bondfield, and Beatrice Forbes Robertson Hale; among the men were Charles Beard, Stanton Coit, Max Eastman, John H. Light, Owen Lovejoy, Ernest Thompson Seton, Lincoln Steffens, and Charles Zeublin.
Connecticut Suffragists Take to the Rails
“Votes for Women Trolley Campaign” program; inscribed by Caroline Ruutz-Rees, CWSA Fairfield County chairman, to Mrs. Agnes E. Blanchard, librarian, South Norwalk Public Library. Elise M. Hill Scrapbook (1912) – Clara Mossman Hill and Elsie M. Hill Collection, Fairfield Museum and History Center Library.
The CWSA launched the trolley campaign on January 24 at Bridgeport’s Warner Hall, with speaker Max Eastman—the secretary of the New York City’s Men’s League for Woman Suffrage and the soon-to-be editor of the socialist periodical, The Masses. It culminated with great fanfare on March 28th at Parson’s Theatre in Hartford. In between, Pierson’s “trolley leaguers” crisscrossed each county at a dizzying pace, presenting four to six evening rallies per week.
Throngs of fervent suffragists, together with the curious, undecided, and even antis, filled the venues—town halls, theaters, libraries, and beach casinos—to hear the reformers and calls to mobilize from Katharine Houghton Hepburn, Josephine Day Bennett, Annie Gertrude Porritt, and other CWSA leaders. Emily Pierson was on the dais at practically every stop to share the objectives for waging this campaign, especially in small towns. Since each municipality, regardless of size, was represented by two representatives in Hartford, making full suffrage a local issue, she explained, could influence the nomination and election of pro-suffrage legislators.
Decorated automobiles of CWSA suffragists swarmed Litchfield County in August 1911 – CWSA Records (RG 101), Connecticut State Library.
The 1912 trolley crusade proved tremendously successful with over 23,400 people addressed and 2,320 new supporters signing a petition declaring, “I believe in equal suffrage for men and women.” For many towns, the campaign was a maiden suffrage event or launched an equal franchise league, and by the November 1912 annual meeting, the CWSA had increased its auxiliaries from 18 to 47, with many emerging along this campaign route.
In the wake of the trolley campaign, the suffrage movement rapidly gained ground across the state. To push the momentum, the CWSA next invaded New London County with a summer automobile tour, then planned campaigns for the remaining three counties. As The Woman’s Journal aptly stated that July, “For the Connecticut suffragists, every year is a campaign year, and both the State Association and the local leagues, which are affiliated with it, are determined that there shall be no slackening of activities until an amendment of the State constitution has granted Votes for Women.”
Kathleen Motes Bennewitz serves as Westport’s town curator and helps manage the Westport Public Art Collections. She has worked for art and historical museums across the country and today is an independent American art historian and exhibition curator.

Bodies exhumed in attempt to identify victim of 1944 Hartford circus fire
Vermont woman was never seen again after attending circus where blaze killed 168 and injured 682 five remain listed as missing
Tumblr media
Authorities in Connecticut have exhumed the bodies of two victims of the 1944 Hartford circus fire, in the hope of identifying one of the last five people still listed as missing after the tragedy.
The exhumations at Northwood Cemetery in Windsor, Connecticut, occurred about two miles from the site of the big top fire that killed 168 people and injured 682 on 6 July 1944.
Forensic experts at the Connecticut chief medical examiners office will try to determine whether one of the two unidentified women was 47-year-old Grace Fifield of Newport, Vermont. After attending the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey circus, she was never seen again.
Officials will compare DNA samples taken from the remains to samples provided by Fifields granddaughter, Sandra Sumrow.
Fifield is one of five people still listed as missing and the same number of unidentified victims are buried at Northwood. Testing is needed to conclusively identify them.
Only two could possibly be Fifield women buried under markers as 2109 and 4512, the case numbers assigned by the Hartford County coroner.
One of the key questions that medicolegal investigators want to answer in any death investigation is, who are you? said Dr James Gill, the chief medical examiner. Properly identifying remains has important legal ramifications, but the most important reason is to confirm the identity for the next of kin.
The skeletal remains of the two victims were in cement vaults, Gill said. Experts will conduct dental and anthropological examinations of the remains before DNA tests are performed. The DNA testing could take weeks or months, depending on the condition of the DNA from the remains, Gill said.
A state judge approved the exhumations last month, at the request of Hartford states attorney Gail Hardy. Police blocked the Northwood Cemetery main entrance on Monday and authorities set up black screens around the grave sites.
Patricia Congelosi, 82, who lives next to the cemetery, watched the work from her back yard. She said she was supposed to have gone to the circus the day of the fire, but her father said it was too hot and the family went to the beach instead.
If they can identify them and the family can find some closure, its good, said Congelosi, who was seven at the time of the fire. I dont know why it took so long.
The circus fire spread quickly and was fueled by a mixture of gasoline and paraffin wax that was used to waterproof the tent. The cause has never been officially determined. Some authorities suspected a cigarette was to blame.
In 1991, officials identified a young victim buried at the same Connecticut cemetery as eight-year-old Eleanor Emily Cook. Her body was exhumed and reburied in Southampton, Massachusetts, next to her six-year-old brother who also died in the fire.

Can I ask all the oc questions??? Because I want to know about them
totally go for it, I live to talk about my ocs
1 .Do any of your OCs have a speech impediment?
Derick stutters when he’s nervous or embarrassed, but I don’t think that’s technically a speech impediment?
                            2. Do any of your OCs have a physical disability?
not yet
I think my only currently disabled oc is Scrax, who was born deaf
                            3. What is your OCs favorite band if they have one?If they were in this universe, I could see Lorelei liking Ariana Grande, Carson liking Cyndi Lauper and Abba, Derick would like older stuff like nirvana, and Rosalyn would be happy with any classical music!
                            4. Does your OC have anything they take pride in? (like an award or collection?)
Lorelei would take pride in her makeup collection; it’s taken her years since makeup isn’t easy to find, nor is it very cheap.
          5. Does your OC have a favorite film?
Rosalyn’s favorite film would probably be The Iron Giant (”You are who you choose to be” gets her every time)
                                         6. How tall is your OC?
My tallest oc is Clae, a 7ft tall android. My tallest
human
oc is Victor Pike at 6′4″
                            7. Does your OC have any celebrity crushes?
I’m going to have to give this some more thought XD
                            8. Do you ship any 2 of your OCs?
oh boy do i
  Ben/Lorelei, Derick/Rosalyn, Doc Faulkner/Doc Hartford, Violet/UnnamedSoulMate, Utah/T, and Zach/Alice
                            9. How would you describe your OCs fashion taste?
Lorelei is supes girly, like anything sparkly and lacy she’s in love with. Carson likes to dress kinda nice on the reg (he’s attractive and he knows it). Derick would prefer to wear the same big green hoodie until it falls apart. Rosalyn wears the same single pair of cargo pants every day (”It has so many
pockets
!”)
                            10. Does your OC have any special talents?Derick’s like,
freaky
good with animals. Could actually be a disney princess.
Rosalyn’s a pro at fighting, though its mostly boxing.Carson’s a fantastic shot, way better than you’d expect from a guy who can’t sit still ever.Lorelei’s super talented at story-telling and sewing!
                            11. Is your OC really bad at something? BAKING, Lorelei is AWFUL AT BAKING. Previously thought she was great (mostly Carson’s fault, even though he was just trying to be supportive), until Rosalyn revealed the ugly truth.
                            12. Does your OC have both of their parents?
Lorelei does! Derick’s are alive, but they hopped on a boat and left the country, abandoning him when he was 13. Carson’s parents died when he was 6, and the poor guy watched it happen. Rosalyn’s aren’t in the picture, nor does she remember much about them.
                            13. Does your OC know their parents?
Carson tries so hard to keep the few memories of his parents he has. Rosalyn really doesn’t remember much about hers either.
                            14. Does your OC have any siblings?Lorelei has a 9 year old sister named Robin, and Rosalyn has a 17 year old brother named Roswell (also had an older brother, but he died when Rosalyn was about 13 and Roswell was 9).
                            15. Do any of your OCs have pets?
Derick has a hairless cat named Ragamuffin (thought he has affectionately nicknamed her Ragsy)
                            16. Do you have any nonhuman OCs?
Yep! Clae is a 12 year old android created by Dr. Emily Fredrickson.
                            17. Do you have any OCs you haven’t posted about?
I rarely talk about Zach and Alice, as well as Scrax and Titchy.
                            18. How would you describe your OCs nature in one word?Lorelei - sensibleDerick - humbleCarson - supportiveRosalyn - wild
                            19. Who is your youngest OC?
Robin, she’s only 9
                            20. Who is your oldest OC?That might be either Victor Pike, Dr. Faulkner, or Chancellor Cassandra Woods, since they’re all in their late 40′s/early 50′s?
                            21. What race is your OC?
Derick, Lorelei, Carson, and Rosalyn are all technically white, I guess
                            22. Would your OC like you?
I mean, I’d hope my ocs would like me. I made them!
Thanks! This was a lot of fun :D

Weekly Update - Monday, March 22, 2021
Commitment - Conviction - Consideration
“This is the power of gathering: it inspires us, delightfully, to be more hopeful,
more joyful, more thoughtful: in a word, more alive.”
 Alice Waters
Good Morning,
The weather is certainly improving.  Now that Spring is here and the temperatures are rising, I am enjoying getting back outside to run. It really does help clear the head and provide time to just listen to music and enjoy the surroundings. It is nice to see that business, in the West Hartford Center where I run, is picking back up and new restaurants are opening. I am hopeful this summer I can enjoy some outdoor dining again. I hope all of you are doing what you need to have some balance and relaxation in your life as well.
Board of Education Meeting
Tonight, there is a Board of Education meeting at 6:30 p.m.  The agenda can be found here.  Below is the YouTube link at which you can tune in to view the meeting.
https://www.youtube.com/wpsconnections/live
At tonight’s meeting, we will honor the Board of Education members for their hard work and commitment to our district.  March is Board Member Appreciation Month, and as volunteers, these individuals give of their time freely to discuss important policy and curriculum matters.  They deliberate over the budget while always placing students at the center of all their decisions.  Personally, I know these members very well, and I am proud to work with them to advance the mission and vision of our district.  Much of their time commitment and hard work goes overlooked sometimes.  That is why the short recognition at tonight’s meeting is so important.  As has been the case for the last 12 years, a book will be donated in the name of each Board of Education member to a library in our district.  I could not think of a better way to show appreciation to them while also forwarding their goal of supporting the students in our district.  Thank you each member for all that you do for the students, families, and staff in the Wallingford Public School District.
Quarantined or COVID-19 Positive Staff Needing Second Dose of Vaccine
I have reached out to Hartford Healthcare and they need to cancel and reschedule your appointment only if you are quarantined or recently tested positive.  If you need to reschedule due to being quarantined or now having tested positive, please email David Bryant - [email protected] - or Danielle Bellizzi - [email protected].  They will provide a master list to Hartford Healthcare who then will be in contact directly with you.  Please notify your school nurse as well.
2021 Invention Convention
On Friday evening, Wallingford’s 2021 Invention Convention was broadcast on YouTube.  I want to congratulate all of the inventors.  Their work was incredible!  A full list of award winners can be found here.
Please enjoy this video of the awards ceremony.
2021 Wallingford Invention Convention.
Commitment - Conviction - Consideration
Last Thursday evening, I had the pleasure of joining several staff members for two games of BINGO.  This event was initiated by Kristina Jensen and Emily Banach as part of an effort to provide some fun events for staff to destress during COVID-19.  While I did not come close to winning either game, I did have fun playing.  The half hour allowed me to take my mind off the many events of the day and gratefully pulled me away from my email.  Thank you, Kristina and Emily, for taking the time to plan this event.  I know everyone who attended had a good time.
I know throughout the district there are individuals and groups of people who are trying to raise the spirits of their colleagues, students, and families.  I appreciate those efforts and would like to highlight more in future Weekly Updates.  Please share these activities with me, so I can share more widely. I think it would be wonderful for everyone to gain a better understanding of the commitment, conviction, and consideration that is occurring across the district in these challenging times.
Thank you in advance for your willingness to share your stories.
Make it a great week!

Best health ‘We are no less American’: Deaths pile up on Texas border
Best health
RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas — When labor danger signaled that Clarissa Muñoz changed into as soon as somehow going to be a mom, she jumped in a car and headed two hours down the Texas border into even handed one of the nation’s most dire coronavirus sizzling spots.
She went first to a clinic so desperate for support that nurses only within the near previous made 49 mobile phone calls to gain a bed 700 miles away to airlift a death man with the virus. From there, she changed into as soon as taken to a bigger clinic by ambulance. Alongside the skill, she passed a funeral home that most incessantly handles 10 companies and products a month but is up to nine every week. And when she somehow arrived to give beginning, she changed into as soon as blindsided by another complication: A test printed that she too changed into as soon as contaminated.
Hours later, Muñoz changed into as soon as granted perfect about a seconds to keep eyes, but no fingers, on her first born, who changed into as soon as immediate whisked away.
On The US’s southern doorstep, the Rio Grande Valley, the U.S. failure to dangle the pandemic has been laid bare. For practically a month, this borderland of two million of us in South Texas pleaded for a discipline clinic, but no longer until Tuesday changed into as soon as one ready and accepting sufferers. In July alone, Hidalgo County reported more than 600 deaths — more than the Houston notify, which is 5 times higher.
At DHR Well being, even handed one of the greatest hospitals on the border, practically 200 of the 500 beds belong to coronavirus sufferers isolated in two devices. A third unit is within the works. That doesn’t even consist of the COVID-19 maternity ward, the keep mothers and newborns are separated directly.
Scientific doctors and nurses rushed Muñoz’s toddler out of the supply room and down a hallway sealed by a zippered tarp to restrict immoral air. Seven hours later, she quiet did no longer know his weight. Across the motorway, alarms blared repeatedly in a coronavirus intensive-care unit, summoning nurses to roll sufferers onto their stomachs to power more air into their lungs.
“It’s a really, in actuality gruesome feeling,” Muñoz acknowledged of looking out at her son being taken away.
Texas reopened quicker than many of the U.S., only to backpedal within the face of massive outbreaks. Well being officers exclaim the worst of a summer season resurgence appears to be like to be at the aid of the notify as a total, however the border is a bleak exception. Scientific doctors apprehension another punishing wave is around the nook.
This predominantly Hispanic plan is cruelly at possibility of COVID-19. The prevalence of diabetes here is roughly three times the national realistic, and households dangle amongst the bottom incomes in The US, including to the roar of thwarting the virus.
Even the weather has added to the burden. The principle storm of the season barreled over the border two weeks ago. At the beginning, native officers hoped that the storm named Hanna would wash out family gatherings and bar crawls, slowing the spread. In fact, the blueprint knocked out energy to hundreds of homes for days, driving households into closer contact with family whose lights remained on.
Now, acknowledged Maritza Padilla, DHR Well being’s assistant chief nursing officer, there is “no likelihood” of knocking down the plan’s an infection curve.
At the clinic, a television computer screen shows the fight in proper time: Teal rectangles signify occupied clinic beds, and green rectangles are inaugurate beds. The grid is practically all teal. On a whiteboard, “body bags” is scrawled on a checklist of wanted objects.
A Christian reduction charity that opened a coronavirus discipline clinic in Contemporary York’s Central Park visited the border in mid-July with an appreciate in direction of constructing another facility. That by no arrangement panned out, and neither did another notion to send sufferers to resorts. Final week, Republican Gov. Greg Abbott introduced that a Hidalgo County convention heart would turn out to be a clinic.
Local authorities remain pissed off.
“We need the support. Our home is on fire,” Rio Grande City Mayor Joel Villarreal acknowledged. “We’re no less American than other of us in other aspects of the country.”
Martha Torres, a nurse at Starr County Memorial Well being facility, is conscious of about procuring in vain for support. She has spent total shifts calling other ICUs in Texas to accept helicopter transfers out of her 29-bed unit. Some sufferers are sent as a long way-off as Oklahoma City, and few survive after the long flight — leaving households with the burden of getting the bodies aid home.
One entrance to the clinic’s COVID-19 ward resembles an off-the-shelf patio door, the kind sold at mountainous-box hardware retail outlets. Final week, Alex Garcia, 26, visited his father by peering during the exterior window of his room. Every males are pipeline crew.
That identical night, Emily Lopez changed into as soon as making ready for her mother’s funeral only weeks after her aunt died of the virus. The two had been playing bingo together sooner than changing into ill, and two other relatives were also hospitalized. “On this notify, it is no longer a joke. It be life or demise,” she acknowledged.
The COVID-19 maternity ward at DHR Well being is a notify of relative aloof but with its own complications. Among them is the topic of squaring only practices with the realities of South Texas, including guidelines that advocate the mum cease isolated at home and the toddler be positioned within the fingers of another caregiver.
“This is mountainous in Hartford, Connecticut, on memoir of all individuals has a 4,000-square-foot home, the frequent profits is $180,000 and all that. Down here, it is extraordinarily a form of,” acknowledged Dr. Efraim Vela, the clinic’s chief govt physician of ladies’s wisely being. “We’re having complications with that.”
Nearly 15,000 pregnant girls within the U.S. dangle tested sure for the coronavirus, and no longer lower than 35 dangle died, in step with the Facilities for Disease Management and Prevention. Though it is that you just would possibly perchance maybe maybe imagine for a pregnant lady to spread the coronavirus to her fetus, it appears to be like to be quite uncommon.
Muñoz, 25, did no longer know she had the virus when she left her home within the border city of Falcon closing week for her son’s beginning. While she went into labor alone, her husband sat all night within the automobile automobile parking space, barred from coming within.
Very first thing within the morning, he plunked down $100 for a immediate COVID test at a clinic that urged him he wanted an appointment. “I urged them it changed into as soon as an emergency. They weren’t going to let me gather my son out of the clinic except I changed into as soon as detrimental,” acknowledged her husband, Nicolas Garcia.
After the beginning, her son changed into as soon as a mobile phone app away: The clinic lets COVID-sure mothers call the nursery over a video chat. Nurse Ashley Vaughan makes a hiss plight the digital camera so mothers can sight fingers and toes on the call. “This mom will cease on the video chat until the mom falls asleep,” Vaughan acknowledged, pointing to a different bassinet.
She went aid to the opposite toddler. “He’s doing perfect, devoted?” Muñoz requested during the video. Vaughan assured the novel mother that he changed into as soon as honest, and the conversation shifted to when the family would possibly perchance maybe maybe spin home.
“Are you performed? Or cease you should cease on?” Vaughan requested.
Muñoz acknowledged she would spin for now. She took a closing uncover about sooner than placing up.
“I take care of you,” she acknowledged. “Bye.”
