Stupid, non-spoiler, non-plot points:

- Van’s hair is fluffy and cute and he deserves nice things

- Ericka is a sweetie-pie overachiever and I love her. Also is she always cold because she’s in a sweater in every scene

- Dana says the best lines in the entire show

- I thought Jacob was gonna be an asshole, but he’s surprisingly likable

- Wolf has little sassy lines that make me actually bark out laughter

- Nichols has a great smile - even more so because he’s a grump

Jacob Nash was a puzzling man. While the aloof loner trope wasn't anything new to Lorraine, she had always found something rather odd about him -- something more that she couldn't quite place her finger on, and yet it only served to make her all the more curious about him and his strange nature.

This is the loosely based on facts story of Carla Moran, a woman who was allegedly tormented and sexually molested by an invisible demon. Regardless of if the facts of the case are fictionalised for impact, or if indeed there is any basis of truth to the attacks in question, The Entity as a film fails to rise above average due to sloppy direction and a very poor script, whilst the score from Charles Bernstein is akin to being hit over the head repeatedly with a blunt instrument. That said, the film isn’t a total wash out, there are genuine moments of dread in the piece, and most of the tension and fear is realised from a very credible performance from Barbara Hershey as Carla. The nature of the beast with this type of picture will always be open to either scoffing or a fear of the unknown, so to get the audience involved with a topic like this you really need your protagonist to be believable, Hershey manages to do this in spite of the character bei...

Jacob screamed at a pitch she hadn't thought him able, his eyes burning with rage yet still as pale as the driven snow. He dismissed her care and spoke to her as though she were nothing but a simple naive child.

It hurt. It hurt terribly. So much so that she wished to cry. Already, salty tears stung the corners of her eyes as she stood there withstanding the terrible verbal blows, her heart twinging in her chest, threatening to burst from grief.

No. She wouldn't allow it. Lorraine wouldn't dare give him the satisfaction of seeing her cry. So she blinked away the tears and took a deep breath, straightening and holding her head high.

"Come. I'll take you back to your quarters."

"I'm perfectly capable of walking there myself, Dr. Nash," she answered, the sadness evident on her face despite her bravery.

Turning on the heel of her boot, Lorraine headed for the tent's exit, stopping in the frame but refusing to turn back.

"And I'm afraid you have it wrong, for it is you who is in desperate need of enlightening. This world is cruel, but it can be beautiful too..."

A brief pause and another deep breath.

"While I'll respect your distance on this night, I will not give up in my attempts to convince you of what I know to be true."

With that, she took her leave, certain he'd be glad to be rid of her.

Lorraine flinched, but frustratingly didn't back down. "If you're referring to yourself, Mr. Nash, I hardly believe that to be true," she said. "You are not the only one to have loved and lost, and you are certainly not the only one whose thought as much."

"I am the only one!" Jacob screamed. "I am the only one who's lost in this way!"

"You point fingers at my bothersome pressing, but why do you insist upon shoving away those who want to show you compassion?"

"What concern is it of yours how I live my life?" Jacob thundered. "I am much older than you, and therefore, have learned that any kindness is a mask for cruel intent! You do not care for me!" He huffed, baring his teeth into a sneer. "And why would you? I have been nothing but cold and punitive. Maybe I like the peace and quiet of not having a naggish woman in my tent! Maybe I like being left the hell alone!"

Overturning another small table, Jacob turned and raked a hand through his hair, beginning to pace. He never should've told her about Daphne. Lord above, why had he told her about Daphne? His dearest heart? His dearest soul?

"I'm sorry," he finally said, his voice a deathly growl. "I'm sorry that you don't yet know the cruelty of life, and that I must be the one to enlighten you." Turning back around to face her, he softly said, "Perhaps now you'll understand that no good deed goes unpunished." Waving a hand, he murmured, "Come. I'll take you back to your quarters."

House calls were preferred at night, if only to soothe the lethargy that came on from too much sun exposure, yet for a patient such as Mr. Woodhouse, Jacob knew it was best to obey. The older man's connections were boundless, and the more upstanding patients he had -- or rather, those who would be missed -- the easier it was for him to resist the temptation to feed.

While he set up his medical supplies, he could hear father and daughter conversing. "This is Dr. Nash. Remember, Papa? He's here to look after you. And I'm here too."

Jacob flashed Emma a wan smile. He truly did care for his patients – or at least, he used to. Ever since Elizabeth had cursed him, ever since he’d lost everything, he no longer found himself quite so capable of compassion – of warmth, of good feeling, or even love. 

“If you’re unfocused, lavender can be quite soothing,” Jacob suggested. “I have a tincture I can blend for you, should you desire it. Some physicians would recommend laudanum, but I'd prefer you keep your faculties completely intact.” He inclined his head. "To my understanding, there is to be a gathering tonight...a public assembly too? So I would recommend some fresh air and being amongst friends."

Here, Jacob looked to Emma. "If you need me to attend and ensure his health, I can make an appearance." And perhaps find a volunteer to slake his burgeoning need. It had been far, far too long since his last feeding -- perhaps a week? -- and his body was beginning to weaken from the effects.

"Dr. Perry is out, Papa." Struggling to remove frustration from the wisps of her tone, Emma never meant to be cross with her father. He was in one of his insistent moods, anxious as ever, convinced some illness had befallen him because he didn't like the taste of his morning soft-boiled egg - more likely be forgot to add a dash of black pepper with his salt but only an examination from a physician would calm his nettled nerves.

"This is Dr. Nash. Remember, Papa? He's here to look after you. And I'm here too."

Glancing towards the newest physician, she offered a close lipped smile, her eyes all but begging for forgiveness for her father's countenance.

I somehow have no blood on my hands and someone whos very connected with major players (jacob and nick) is leaving :))) literally this week turned out so well im still squealing that the rumored "dpov" didnt get used fhbasjfd like when i saw the time limit passed  i jumped around my room and squealed But!! the next big thing is where do i go from here. I THINK me bri and jacob are all safe in live night bc jacob's dpov can help if we're in trouble so im feeling kinda confident for the three of us, and then for some reason nick trusts me?? like a lot??? so i can get information and the perspective of the other side whenever i need it. Not super sure where to go from here but i want to keep the "sides" even so if someone like joshua/kiki/jev could go next that would be great although it probably won't. So just a little recap of the week, I wasn't surprised to be nominated in the slightest. It kinda bugged me that Brianna brought social interaction into her reasoning for nominations since she doesn't seem to be very responsive in PMs to anybody but I guess it had to happen sooner or later. I just hope me and Nash can survive this week because I don't think either of us deserve to leave over Nathan. Being called out by Nathan earlier this week really annoyed me since he was literally grasping at straws to throw anybody but himself under the bus then had the nerve to say he isn't a messy player... girl the delusion but hopefully he'll leave this week, that's if Brianna is smart and doesn't use the veto on him. He's loyal to nobody but himself and he's proven that this week with his house meeting.

im super excited to make jury.... hopefully ill be able to make it this time longer... i seem to be cursed with horrible situational circumstances lately JDJEIDJDJFKD. anyway as of now my strategy was just to lay low until jury but i think i might continue that for a while... try not to win hoh. i have a finger in every pie as of right now and am in an alliance with everyone in the cast but nathan.... and in doing so have hopefully reduced myself as a target in the eyes of others.... kiki is a master of psychological manipulation. for the live night im banking on that to keep safe but i do tend to be good under pressure so if need be i can count on myself and probably even my closer allies such as joshua and nick to help me out if i end up in a sticky spot. shakes ass in here for the hosts. thats all thank u

With all the chaos concerning Banner and his men (if one could call them that) in the recent weeks, Bess was positive that the Duttons would need all the help they could get, especially now that three sons were lost. Spencer was off God knew where, and both John and Jack were now six feet under out in the cold family cemetery. A new ranch hand, who doubled as a doctor, was surely a blessing. Elizabeth felt relieved, despite it all. 

"Is this you and your husband's first child?"

“Yes, it’s my first…but there is no husband.”

There hadn’t been time to marry amid the fray of conflict, but there had been enough of a window for Elizabeth to alter the course of her life for good, and all without Jack to stand by her through it. Still, this good Samaritan hadn’t asked to hear about the unfortunate hand dealt to her. Better to spare him the grim details. 

"A pleasure, Bess. I'm Dr. Jacob Nash."

“Good to meet you, Doctor Nash.”

As Bess had predicted, Mr. Dutton had welcomed the additional help, particularly with renovating the barn that Banner had attempted to burn down earlier that month. 

For one with such a mysterious arrival, he was a kind man, or at least kind to her, and strangely enough, she felt safer with him here than she had alone. Not to mention, the evenings she’d spent in her own company as of late had been more depressing than peaceful. His presence was a welcomed change. 

In the height of the sunny afternoon, Bess arrived at the site of the barn’s construction with a tray of lemonade, offering Jacob a glass as the rest of the workers dispersed. 

“Thank you for your help,” she smiled, “Mr. Dutton isn’t a man of many words, but I know he’s grateful. Losing his nephews…it’s been hard on him.”

The blonde shifted almost self-consciously. "Yes, sir. Goin' on about thirty years, I think. He's also the town's livestock commissioner. The best in Park County."

Jacob perked up at that, trying not to appear too eager. Livestock would be quite ideal, were he to acquire a continual source of sustenance. He could easily feed upon them without draining them dry.

"My parents raised livestock," he said, which was true. Or rather, the farmhands had. "Perhaps I can lend assistance...I'm a doctor, and truly, livestock chemistry isn't so different from a human's."

Although the woman thanked him for staying, he could tell by her eyes -- not to mention, her erratic heartbeat -- that she was still unsettled. Not that he was surprised; it had been ages since anyone had gazed upon him with warmth, fondness or trust.

Unbidden, the blonde released a torrent of startled laughter. "Oh, goodness, no," she said. "Mrs. Dutton is visiting a friend in town. I'm..." She hesitated, an unreadable look of uncertainty scrunching her face. "I'm a friend of the family," she concluded. "Uh, about seven months."

"Seven months," Jacob echoed, his tone soft as he accepted the water-soaked cloth. "I've delivered a few babies in my day. There's nothing quite like it." Going through the motions of pretending to clean his healing wound, he added, "Is this you and your husband's first child?"

The woman softened a bit, though her pulse was still elevated. "Thank you again," she said. "I'm Elizabeth, by the way, but you may call me Bess."

Jacob set aside the cloth with a hum. He thought of extending a hand, as was the customary greeting, but ultimately decided against it as he replied, "A pleasure, Bess. I'm Dr. Jacob Nash."

"Can I get you anything else? Tea? Coffee?"

The thought of mortal beverages made his stomach sour, and shaking his head, Jacob was quick to reassure, "No, no, don't trouble yourself. You should get off your feet -- doctor's orders."
