Douglas C-47A-80-DL ‘315073 / 9X-D’ by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: c/n 19539 Built late 1943 or early 1944 for the US military with the serial 43-15073 Arrived in UK during March 1944 and joined the Ninth Air Force. Allocated to the 95th Troop Carrier Sqn and coded ‘9X-D’. Took part in D-Day and then operations Neptune, Dragon, Market Garden, Repluse and Varsity. Sold off in 1946 and joined Czechoslovak State Airlines (CSA) as OK-XDM. Became ‘15073’ with the French Air Force in 1960 and given the radio callsing F-TEBE. This was later changed to F-RAUK when she was recoded 340-UK. Taken out of service in 1971, she was then registered as F-BTDF before joining the Yugoslav Air Force as 71248 in 1972. She eventually became a gate guard at Rajlovac, Sarajevo. During the Yugoslav wars she was used as a bar by UN peace-keeping troops and known as ‘The Dakota Club’. Donated to the Association Merville-Dakota in 2007, she was moved to the Merville Battery and went on display in June 2008, following a cosmetic restoration. Musée de la Batterie de Merville. Sorry to hear of the loss today of ‘Texas Raiders’ and the P-63 and the irreplaceable souls on board the two aircraft.

This is a repost of a photo I posted a few years ago with the text below unaltered. Not sure what the occasion was back then of the “recent” TR images, but here it is:

Seeing the recent posted images of Texas Raiders, every time I see that ship I’m reminded of her family connections that still exist ...

TR came from a block of ‘survivors’ as -95-DLs ... the last block built by Douglas. If I recall correctly all three of these were converted to PB-1Ws, thus a bit off the beaten path.

TR’s AAF serial is 44-83872, the Hendon RAF Museum’s Fort is 44-83868, and the one on static display at Barksdale AFB, La. is 44-83884.

The latter 17 (884) was the *second* to the last B-17 built by Douglas - rolled out in July 1945 - and was actually used as the “last one” in company photos with all the workers because the true last Douglas built (#3,000) had been hurriedly shipped off to USAAF service while 884 was earmarked and retained at Douglas for the Navy’s later conversion.

Hello There Ben Brown here one of the aims of the Tolerance project is campaigning for disabled people to be represented better in the media this includes theatre TV Radio Cinema etc the BBC announced in the last few weeks of 2019 a raft of new projects to try achieve this aim you can read about it here https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-50631991 so it made good sense to me to bring this blog forward

Then not long after this I read that a study in America had just been published saying that viewers would like to see better representation of people with disabilities on the shows they watched from this article in the LA times https://www.latimes.com/entertainment-arts/movies/story/2019-09-17/disability-representation-study-ruderman-family-foundation

This blog started as an idea called Disability on the Box looking at how disability was represented on our television screens in the process of writing it and researching it the article was revised quite a few times in this final revised version I decided to open it  up to all the arts and not just Television Special Thanks go out to Ruth Sharpe who helped me edit the piece all those years ago and to Gemma Blagbourgh for the short interview.

The late, great writer, Douglas Adams, once said that good ideas and old ideas don’t die, they just gather dust on the shelf and this article is living proof of that. I have always wanted to write an article on disabled people in the arts  and my fourth attempt (what your reading now) will at last be seen by a wider audience. So the old saying if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again is true in this case. I first wrote about disabled people in television in a piece for very short-lived publication called, In Ya Face, a publication aimed at young people in the mid 90s. I used the subject again for a unpublished article I wrote in 2001, which looked at how the popular television series, Doctor Who, approached the subject of disabilityduring its first 30 years on television and beyond.

This article revisits those last two pieces, as well as other areas and asks has the way disabled people been represented on television and film got worse or better in the last few years?

Television and Theatre

I don’t know about you, but I love a great night in front of the television  and watch a variety of programmes  from soaps to quizzes, as well as documentaries, but I have started to notice something of a gap in my television viewing - why is there a lack of disabled actors on television these days? Disabled men and women have been excellently represented in other areas: for example we see disabled people in quizzes like Eggheads and Mastermind; comedy shows like  the brilliant, The Last Leg, on Channel 4; reality shows like the Undatables and Born to be Different. Talking about the Undateables its a great show its good that it shows people with a disability can have a love life too my only problem with the show is the title just because I am disabled does not make me undesirable to the opposite sex. Channel 4 has made great strides with its disability programming particularity in the area of disability sport I would love to see more of it all year round if possible the only problem with me is the title of the coverage  when it comes to channel 4s otherwise excellent para sport coverage just because bits of my body don’t does not make me superhuman here is a blog written by someone discussing the same subject

When watching the television as a child, seeing disabled people on any programmes was a rare event. The first disabled person I ever saw on television was an actor called Nabil Shaban, who first appeared in the Dr Who story 'Vengeance on Varos' as Sil, a slug-like creature from the planet Thoros Beta. Nabil suffers from osteogenesis imperfecta (brittle-bone disease), but that didn’t matter as an 8-year old watching it at home, his performance to me was excellent and it seems the viewing public liked him as well. He was so popular as Sil that he came back a year later to play the same part in episodes 4 to 8  of the 14-part epic story,  'Trial of a Timelord'. What’s that I hear you cry? Disabled people need good role models? There are good role models about - just look at the 2012 Paralympic Games; some excellent ones to choose there, so once again there is a gap in the market for a good role models on TV.

But, we hardly ever see good role models for disabled people or even disabled actors in dramas and when we do, they tend to fall into two categories; firstly, the disabled person, who has the long-term disability and is a wife beater or murderer; or secondly, the other side of the coin, where a nice non-disabled person suddenly finds himself in a wheelchair and has a complete personality transplant. Speaking as a person with a long-term disability, that’s not the way I am and if I was, I wouldn’t have many friends!

Another thing that annoys me is when a disabled part comes up in a drama, in most cases, although not all, the producers of the programme or film use a non-disabled actor. Now to me, this is just silly. If the part is written for a disabled person, it should given to a disabled person, because after all that person knows how that disability effects them in real life and would know how to portray it best on-screen. Hiring a non-disabled actor to play a disabled role on- screen is just lazy and the casting director has not thought about the pros and cons. Sure, it's quicker to hire a non-disabled actor, but I think you lose something. After all, a disabled person has to live being disabled every day, whereas a non-disabled actor, although still convincing, is playing at pretend and can go back to their normal life at the end of the day.

A recent Theatre play as part of the Manchester International festival came unstuck when they they cast a non disabled actor in a disability role because they said they couldn’t find anybody suitable they then came in for even more flack when the producers of they play attempted a rewrite without the disability role see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-48952181 and https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-48966317

But there are good news stories as well as bad ones this lady became the first disabled actress to win a Tony award for best I hope she is the first of many also look at the recent revival of the Peter Nichols a day in the death of Joe egg which always had a disabled character in it but until recently was alway played by a non disabled actor the play has done really well and I would love to someone at the BBC or Channel 4 remake it as a one off play or as a limited 6 part series

Ironically when myself and Gemma Blagbrough were making the original Tolerance film, it very nearly didn’t get made because the producer didn’t want to use disabled actors. In the end, two disabled roles were created for the film. Gemma Blagbrough played the cinema manager and I asked her what were her memories of her first and only acting role. Did she enjoy the experience?

Yes I really enjoyed the whole experience of working on the Tolerance video the only thing I didn’t like were the early morning the earliest being half past 5 in the morning when I had to film my scenes

it was long hours I wanted to show people with a disability that A you can work and B you can work in positions of authority

As I said this is not always the case, but when the casting director does go the extra mile, disabled actors always give good performances.  Another good case in point is Lilac Jackson A young girl who has cerebral palsy, will soon be appearing in the channel 4 drama  alongside Broadchurch actor David Tennant. It appeared young Lilac  liked the experience her mum commented She absolutely loved it. It was, I can’t lie, it was quite overwhelming on the first day. I think I spent the entire morning crying my eyes out thinking ‘oh my God, we’ve gone from this little, scrappy 34-week-old baby who nobody expected to survive to here we are about to film scenes with David Tennant’.

And she walked on to set, we were filming on the beach that day and it was just where she was meant to be

So my message to television and film casting directors and producers is, please give disabled actors a chance; you never know, you could make some classic TV and win yourself an award or two. Come on, you know it makes sense .

Cinema

I go to the cinema quite a lot mostly with my mum and dad but I have never seen a film with a disabled actor or character in it it could be a case that I don’t watch enough films or that disabled actors don’t get a chance to show there skills or that scripts are not been written with disabled parts in them or a mix of all 3 but this could be about to change with this campaign https://www.independentcinemaoffice.org.uk/its-time-to-make-disability-visible-in-cinema/

Glen Mhor 34 1966/2000 DL Old Malt Cask (50 %)

Enda en Glen Mhor når vi først er i gang, denne er hele 34 år gammel, destillert i februar 1966 (kan det ha vært dagen Fred Anton Maier satte verdensrekord på 10 000 meter med 15.32.2 på Bislett, altså den 6. februar det året, kan man saktens undres – jeg vet dessverre ikke) og tappet i juli 2000. Det kom 396 flasker, og tapperen er Douglas Laing.

På nesen fikk jeg sherry, malt, sjokolade, litt aprikos, muskat, en anelse kamfer, eiketre, honning, litt soyasaus, linolje og sjokolade. Smaksmessig fant jeg litt svisker først, så malt, lynghonning og kaffe. Søt og fyldig. I avslutningen fikk jeg malt, eiketre, toffee, honning og vanilje. Søt og lang. Med vann fikk jeg vanilje på nesen, så krydder og urter. Litt «støvete». Smaken fikk mer trebitterhet, med kaffe, vanilje, og sherry. Avslutningen var stadig lang, med litt mer trebitterhet.

En sherrypreget og velbalansert Glen Mhor dette (såkalt «old school sherry» for de som bryr seg med å skille mellom de ulike sherryretningene). Oljete og kompleks og givende – her kan man bli sittende å smatte uforholdsmessig lenge …

Douglas C-47A-DL Skytrain ‘F-BBBE’ (F-AZTE) by Alan Wilson Via Flickr: c/n 9172 Built 1943 for the USAAF with the serial 42-23310. Demobbed during 1945 and registered to Scottish Airlines as G-AGZF in December that year. The airline was carrying out trooping flights to the Middle East during the early 1950’s and G-AGZF was allocated the British military serial WZ984 and painted into RAF livery for this purpose. In October 1952 it was sold to the French Air Force and given the serial 141406, later changed to 4223310. It remained with them until 1971 after which it became the Presidential transport for the Central African Republic with the civil registration TL-JBB (JBB being the initials of the then President Jean Belel Bokassa). In 1980 it became TL-AAX with Inter RCA, but during 1984 it came back to France as F-GDPP and flew with ACE Transvalair on services for DHL. It joined Association France DC3 in 1991 but was grounded following an engine failure in June 2001. Flying again in 2003, she was given the ‘historic’ registration F-AZTE in 2004. She is currently based at La-Ferté-Alais and is painted in false Air France colours as F-BBBE. Governador do Maranhão descumpre o próprio decreto e nada acontece?

Para conter a propagação do coronavírus, o governo do Maranhão publicou, no sábado (21/3), decreto que suspende por 15 dias atividades que causem aglomeração de pessoas em locais públicos ou de uso coletivo.

A determinação inclui serviços não essenciais, como academias, shopping centers, cinemas, teatros, bares, restaurantes, lanchonetes, centros comerciais, lojas e estabelecimentos congêneres. Fonte; Conjur

Não foi isso que aconteceu na terça-feira (24/3), quando o governo do estado fez a entrega de cestas de alimentos no Centro Histórico da capital São Luís.

Uma multidão se acotovelava para tentar conseguir uma cesta básica, que era distribuída sem nenhuma NORMA DE PREVENÇÃO CONTRA O CORONAVÍRUS.

 Que fique claro no Art. 20 Não estão inclusos na suspensão de que trata o art. 1° deste Decreto:

III - a distribuição e a comercialização de gêneros alimentícios por supermercados e congêneres; 

Pois bem, a distribuição não foi feita por supermercados e sim por integrantes do governo do estado. Ou seja, o governador Flávio Dino descumpriu o próprio decreto e ainda colocou em risco a população carente da cidade. 

Art. 4° Visando reduzir deslocamentos a Delegacias de Polícia e a aglomerações de pessoas, a Polícia Militar do Estado do Maranhão fica autorizada a lavrar Term Circunstanciados de Ocorrência (TCO) que serão encaminhados ao Delegado de Polícia para seguimento. 

Art. 5° O descumprimento das medidas previstas decreto enseja a aplicação da sanção prevista no art. 268 do Código Penal, após o devido processo legal. Art. 60 Este Decreto entra em vigor na data de sua publicação.

O Blog consultou o Juiz Douglas de Melo Martins da Vara de Interesses Difusos e Coletivos, que  proibiu a carreata de empresários que aconteceria neste domingo(29) em favor da reabertura do comércio, alegando que a mesma causaria aglomeração. Como assim se as pessoas estariam dentro dos seus carros? 

Perguntado se a distribuição irresponsável de cestas de alimentos pelo governo do estado na última terça-feira, não foi uma infração grave, o magistrado respondeu:

“Pelo menos umas 50 pessoas já me fizeram essa mesma pergunta depois que divulguei a minha decisão de proibir a carreata. Claro que não pode! A minha decisão proíbe isso também!”

“ Mas, ninguém entrou com uma ação na Vara de Interesses Difusos informando que haveria distribuição de cestas básicas com aglomeração de pessoas no Centro Histórico e, nem pedindo liminar para proibir isso”. 

“ Se você me perguntar se foi correto  distribuir cestas de alimentos com aglomeração de pessoas, eu digo: não foi correto!”

Moral da história: A ato de distribuir cestas de alimentos aos mais necessitados ( principalmente nesse momento de crise sanitária)  é uma ação que merece todo o nosso respeito, admiração e até nossas palmas. Mas fazê-la de forma irresponsável pondo em risco a vida de centenas de milhares de pessoas que podem (ou não) contrair o Coronavírus, é um ato que devemos repudiar e exigir providências das autoridades, até para que sirva de exemplo para outros que queiram fazer a mesma coisa.  

Ou o governador do Maranhão é imune a lei e pode descumprir o próprio decreto que nada vai acontecer?

Un’esperienza sciamanica a tutto tondo inaugura il festival internazionale di musica elettronica Electropark. Posti limitati

Genova – Inaugura giovedì 8 novembre (ore 20.30) alla Chiesa Inferiore di San Giovanni di Prè (piazza della Commenda) la settima edizione di Electropark, festival internazionale di musica elettronica e sperimentazione artistica in scena fino al 10 novembre nel quartiere di Prè. A inaugurare sono i Phurpa, formazione russa guidata da Alexey Tegin, veterano della scena alternativa moscovita. I posti sono limitati.

Voci e strumenti arcaici tibetani porteranno il pubblico, sdraiato all’interno della chiesa, a fruire di una vera e propria esperienza di rito sciamanico. Gli spettatori verranno iniziati alla performance con una degustazione esotica di liquori infusi in tisane, accompagnata da un’accurata selezione di cioccolato. I Phurpa fanno un largo uso di voci mantra dette Gyer, canti di gola tantrici, e di una strumentazione tipicamente arcaica dotata di Dung-chen, strumento a fiato in bronzo lungo qualche metro da usare in coppia, di tamburo doppio Nga, di pugnali rituali benefici in legno e metallo, e di Kanling, un piffero ottenuto da una tibia. Il tutto è accompagnato dall’assunzione, durante la preghiera, di pozioni naturali e incensi di ginepro.

Durante Electropark, in scena concerti dal vivo, dj-set, approfondimenti ed esperienze: «Electropark si sviluppa – racconta Alessandro Mazzone di Forevergreen.fm, direttore generale del festival – nel quartiere di Prè, anticamente uno dei sestieri a ridosso del porto in cui era suddivisa la città, oggi terreno, spesso dimenticato, di culture diverse e strade da riscoprire». Dopo l’anteprima del 13 e 14 ottobre, andata in scena durante i Rolli Days a Palazzo Reale e nella Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Spinola, Electropark prosegue in altri luoghi di rilevanza storica e culturale, come il Museoteatro della Commenda, la Chiesa Inferiore di San Giovanni, il Mercato Ittico dei pescatori della Darsena e i Truogoli di Santa Brigida. «Un festival di musica elettronica e sperimentazione artistica a livello internazionale, che si svolge tra gli edifici storici del quartiere di Prè mettendo in relazione l’offerta culturale con il nostro patrimonio artistico – spiega l’assessore alle Politiche culturali Barbara Grosso – Un esempio di rigenerazione urbana, che dialoga con la cultura, dispiegandosi in un viaggio tra il contemporaneo e il classico».

Voci e strumenti arcaici tibetani, techno, world music, i suoni del sitar, artisti internazionali e locali, musica elettronica, ma anche un’installazione che vedrà collaborare i residenti di piazza dei Truogoli di Santa Brigida e un workshop di progettazione partecipata, che coinvolge «in tavoli di lavoro – prosegue Alessandro Mazzone – associazioni culturali, istituzioni, cittadini e commercianti, per individuare azioni di rilancio culturale del quartiere di Prè. Dal 2012 siamo impegnati nella valorizzazione della cultura della musica elettronica, ed è un onore coinvolgere nel nostro progetto di rigenerazione urbana artisti di calibro mondiale come Atom™, Legowelt, An-i, rRoxymore e Pasiphae».

Organizzato e promosso dall’associazione culturale Forevergreen.fm, Electropark è inserito nel calendario dell’Anno Europeo del Patrimonio Culturale del Ministero per i beni e le attività culturali, ed è sostenuto da Compagnia di San Paolo (maggior sostenitore) nell’ambito dell’edizione 2018 del bando “Performing Arts”, dal Comune di Genova nell’ambito della call “Genova Città dei Festival” e dal Goethe-Institut Genua. Electropark ha anche il sostegno di Iren, Coop Liguria e Banca Etica. Inoltre, il festival ha il patrocinio di Regione Liguria, ed è realizzato con la collaborazione del Museo di Palazzo Reale, Galleria Nazionale di Palazzo Spinola, Teatro Nazionale di Genova, Teatro della Tosse, Suq Festival, Cooperativa Sociale Solidarietà e Lavoro, Mu.Ma, Commenda di Pré, Associazione Promotori Musei del Mare e della Navigazione, Coldiretti Pesca Liguria, Associazione Culturale Matrioske, Consorzio Vivere S. Brigida, Consorzio Agorà, Punto Emergenza Pré, TreeCycle e Apical. Il progetto ha la media partnership di Edizioni Zero e Radio Raheem, oltre al supporto di Code War, Free Soul, Oversize e Adventures.

  IL PROGRAMMA DEI GIORNI SUCCESSIVI

Electropark riparte alle 18 di venerdì 9 novembre al Mercato ittico dei pescatori della Darsena, aperitivo con frittura di pesce a cura del consorzio dei pescatori locali mentre in consolle si alternano il genovese Giorgio Gazzo, Cashu del collettivo femminista brasiliano Mamba Negra e Pasiphae, astro nascente della scena elettronica olandese. Alle 23, al Museoteatro della Commenda, va in scena la prima delle due serate dance oriented, con il live techno “Ground Loop”, dell’iconico artista tedesco Atom™. Aprono la serata il cofondatore di Rete Neurale Milano Est Marco Segato e Useless Idea, artista e producer genovese Ebm/acid. Chiude il producer tedesco-americano An-i. Inoltre, sempre venerdì, dalle 11 alle 18 tra i banchi del mercato dei Pescatori della Darsena è in programma una diretta radio e video streaming di Radio Raheem, con dj-set di artisti locali e ospiti del festival, accompagnati da interviste e voci del territorio.

Sabato 10 novembre comincia con il “Repessin”, storico mercato solidale del quartiere, a cura dell’associazione culturale Matrioske. Alle 14 prende il via il workshop di progettazione partecipata al primo piano del Museoteatro della Commenda (iscrizioni online), mentre alle 18 si prosegue con due live di world music in piazza dei Truogoli di Santa Brigida: apre la serata l’armonia del sitar di Alain Panteleimonoff, accompagnato dal tablista Federico Sanesi e dai piatti tipici dei commercianti in piazza, segue l’esibizione live degli African Griot, artisti provenienti dal Senegal. Per l’occasione, in piazza sarà allestita un’installazione partecipata, che ricorderà l’atmosfera di un tempo: quando le persone, residenti alle estremità della piazza, condividevano i fili da stendere e, di conseguenza, i panni. Per ricreare questo spirito di solidarietà, una serie di stoffe riportanti alcune parole, scelte dai residenti stessi nelle settimane precedenti, unirà i Truogoli durante tutta la durata del festival. Alle 23, al Museoteatro della Commenda tocca al gran finale di Electropark, con il dj set di una delle figure chiave dell’elettronica mondiale, Legowelt. Completano la serata l’house con tinte jazz di scuola francese di rRoxymore e il dj sanremese James Falco.

Electropark è organizzato e promosso dall’associazione culturale Forevergreen.fm, impegnata nella valorizzazione della cultura musicale elettronica con Electropark a Genova e, dal 2016, con lo sviluppo della rassegna gemella milanese Electropark Exchanges.

African Griot (SN) Nella cultura dei popoli dell’Africa come Mali, Gambia e Senegal, il griot è la storica figura del poeta e cantore designato per conservare e tramandare la tradizione orale, sociale e culturale. Da questo spirito nel 2009 nasce il collettivo artistico African Griot, i cui componenti sono attualmente di base a Milano ma tutti provenienti da Dakar. Capitanati dal leader del gruppo e tamburo maggiore Balla Nar Ndyae Rose, noto percussionista che ha appreso l’arte della musica e del Sabar dal padre, il collettivo, che arriva a contare fino a sedici membri tra percussionisti di vario tipo e ballerine, porta in scena spettacoli dal vivo promuovendo la conoscenza in Italia della cultura africana senegalese.

Alain Panteleimonoff (FR) pizzica corde già dalla tenera età sul finire degli anni Settanta. Tramite lunghi soggiorni in India si orienta verso lo stile tonale e vocale dell’Indad Khani, collaborando con i grandi sitaristi Ustad Vilayat Khan e Ustad Bimalindu Mulkherjee. Nel 1986 si laurea alla Fondazione Yehudi Menuhin e da allora ha tenuto molti concerti in India ed ha accompagnato il gruppo di danzatori dello stile Odissi di Shri Ramani Ranjan Jena.

An-i (USA/DE) Nato in California a metà anni Settanta ma attualmente residente a Berlino, il dj e produttore elettronico Douglas Lee aka An-I da oltre due decadi pilota umori ed energie sulle piste da ballo di tutto il mondo. Forte dell’esperienza e della reputazione guadagnata a New York come capofila della nascente scena mutant disco, successivamente si fa conoscere anche per le sue produzioni e collaborazioni con Lovefingers, Justin Vandervolgen e Ron Morelli della LIES records. Approda poi nel roster della label Minimal Wave/Cititrax dove pubblica l’EP pietra miliare “Kino I” ed il successivo “Gutz”. Recentemente ha collaborato con Alessandro Adriani nella compilation celebrativa “Waves of the Future” dell’etichetta Mannequin, figurando assieme ad artisti del calibro di Ron Morelli, Beau Wanzer e Silent Servant.

Atom™ (DE) Il tedesco Uwe Schmidt è una figura chiave della musica elettronica sperimentale, un veterano che dagli anni Novanta fino ad oggi ha saputo creare un percorso variegato ed estremamente originale. Dagli inizi in Germania assieme a Tetsu Inoue ed al compianto Pete Namlook, passando dalla fascinazione per la musica latina durante una permanenza in Cile, a collaborazioni importanti con Bill Laswell e Yellow Magic Orchestra, fino alle recenti contaminazioni elettroniche glitch sull’etichetta Raster Noton di Alva Noto e club su The Bunker New York e Ostgut Ton, Schmidt ne ha passate tante senza fermarsi un attimo e cambiando spesso pelle sonora sapendo rinnovarsi in modi spesso imprevedibili.

Cashu (BR) Una delle figure chiave della scena queer nell’underground elettronico di Sao Paolo in Brasile dove, insieme a Carneosso, ha formato nel 2013 il collettivo indipendente Mamba Negra, piattaforma con una forte attitudine femminista rivolta alla libertà sessuale di genere, con manifestazioni in location abbandonate. Cashu porta questa energia in tutti i suoi set in città, che avvengano in capannoni occupati, presso l’edizione brasiliana del Dekmantel, o nell’iconico spazio del Panorama Bar.

Giorgio Gazzo (IT) Dj e party manager con base a Genova dove fonda nel 2011 il progetto Free Soul, solida realtà nel panorama house elettronico cittadino. House, elettronica, nu disco e deep house sono le sonorità che lo contraddistinguono come dj. Come selecter ha lavorato a progetti di interazione con la danza contemporanea e le arti visive nei teatri cittadini (progetti Soundtrack e Love/Unlove). Ha lavorato in diversi club e festival e dal 2017 ha trovato la propria residenza sulla terrazza del Monu Café dove ogni domenica ospita Afterbeach, il party che infiamma le domeniche dell’estate genovese.

James Falco (IT) James Falco è dj resident dei party Adventures, di cui è anche co-fondatore. Il suo percorso va dalle prime resident night alle performance di apertura di musicisti come Gerd Janson, Rampa, William Djoko, Avalon Emerson, Nick Anthony Simoncino e più recentemente Call Super, Courtesy, Shanti Celeste e Or:la. I diversi contesti in cui si muove Adventures, dai party in spiaggia ai club più bui e fumosi, permettono a James Falco di lavorare su un approccio al djing versatile ed eclettico.

Legowelt (NL) Danny Wolfers è una personalità davvero unica nel suo genere, curioso viaggiatore di mondi lontani ed immaginari, lontani da mode ed aspettative terrestri. Di cultura musicale vasta ed espansa, grande nerd di sintetizzatori, Legowelt fa categoria a sé. Esordiente in Olanda nei primi anni Novanta, scuderia Bunker, e ispirato dal suono di Detroit e Chicago, è oggi una figura chiave della scena elettronica mondiale. Estremamente prolifico a nome Legowelt, ed in incognito sotto un’altra dozzina di moniker, ha pubblicato su rinomate etichette come Clone, L.I.E.S., Dekmantel.

Marco Segato (IT) Nato a Roma ma cresciuto nei dintorni di Venezia, inizia ad organizzare eventi e sperimentare con la musica elettronica nel 2009/2010 certificandosi in Ableton Live e attendendo il corso di sound design col guru della disciplina Enrico Cosimi. Nel 2016 viene chiamato come resident da Red Bull Music Academy a Montreal insieme a Lamusa II e Pan Daijing. Instancabile creatore di eventi club e club music, forte dell’esperienza in veneto con FlashForward, da qualche tempo è impegnato a Milano come co-fondatore del collettivo Rete Neurale Milano E.S.T.

Pasiphae (GR/NL) Nome d’arte di Fotini Kappa, originaria della Grecia e attualmente residente in Olanda presso l’Aia, città dove muove i primi passi verso la costruzione di un sound personale. Il 2018 è segnato dalla sua prima uscita solista su Artificial Dance, che ha riscosso elogi e apprezzamenti per lo stile unico e la combinazione di pad atmosferici, bassi electro e batterie techno acid. Una promessa nascente che per la prima volta si esibisce in Italia.

Phurpa (RU), formazione russa guidata da Alexey Tegin, veterano della scena alternativa moscovita dedito alla riscoperta della tradizione Bön, ovvero il misticismo sciamanico originario del Tibet pre-buddista. L’ensemble fa largo uso di voci mantra dette Gyer, canti di gola tantrici e di una strumentazione tipicamente arcaica dotata di Dung-chen, strumento a fiato in bronzo lungo qualche metro da usare in coppia, di tamburo doppio Nga, di pugnali rituali benefici in legno e metallo, e di Kanling, un piffero ottenuto da una tibia. rRoxymore (FR) La francese Hermione Frank, in arte rRoxymore, è riconosciuta per le sue produzioni sin dal 2012, da quando ha cominciato a far gruppo con personalità del mondo della musica elettronica di spessore come Planningtorock, Paula Temple e Oni Ayhun. Da Montpellier alla patria della club music Berlino, fino a Bristol sotto la label Don’t Be Afraid, si è librata nel panorama elettronico grazie al primo di una serie di EP intitolata “Thoughts of an Introvert”, ancora in corso d’opera. Con una solida esperienza alle spalle, costruita a suon di pubblicazioni e dj set in giro per il mondo, rRoxymore ha tutte le carte in regola per far scatenare la pista di ogni club.

Useless Idea (IT) Useless Idea è il moniker dell’artista audiovisivo Cesare Bignotti. Il suo sound si ispira alle prime produzioni IDM e alla musica ambient, notevolmente influenzato da etichette come Warp & Rephlex. Inizia a comporre musica elettronica a metà degli anni 90, utilizzando una drum machine e un Sintetizzatore Roland registrati su Fostex a bobina. La sua musica e è una forma ibrida di elettronica. Tra le principali influenze annoveriamo IDM, Acid House, Ambient, Detroit Techno e Jungle. Il suo approccio alla musica è carico di sensibilità per l’innovazione volta a una libera e piena espressione del sé e della propria soggettività, per dar vita a un sound che possa essere definito a ragione contemporaneo.

  I LUOGHI DI ELECTROPARK 2018

Electropark continua il percorso di attivazione e valorizzazione di edifici e luoghi del Centro Storico genovese, avendo come punto di riferimento il quartiere di Prè, anticamente uno dei sestieri in cui era suddivisa la città e situato a ridosso dell’area portuale.

Museoteatro Commenda di Prè

Lo splendido convento romanico, che si affaccia sulla piazza con il suo inimitabile loggiato, fu in origine anche ospitale, ovvero luogo adibito al dare alloggio ai pellegrini e viandanti di transito per la Terrasanta, collegando popoli e culture diverse. Eletto da sempre come quartier generale del festival, ospiterà notturne escursioni sonore durante il weekend.

Chiesa di San Giovanni di Prè

Costruita di fianco alla Commenda e parte integrante del suo complesso architettonico, caso raro di due chiese sovrapposte, una al piano superiore e una inferiore. In questa elegante cornice del XII secolo si potrà assistere ad un esclusivo live act ricco di fascino.

Mercato Ittico della Darsena

L’indissolubile legame tra la città e il proprio retroterra culturale e storico è degno di nota e se ne trova riscontro anche in una dimensione locale: in questo mercato affacciato sul mare è possibile infatti comprare pesce direttamente dai pescatori della zona, rigorosamente pescato nel mar Ligure. Sarà luogo di attracco per dj set sulla banchina della Darsena.

Piazza dei Truogoli di Santa Brigida

Nell’intricato dedalo di vicoli del centro è nascosta una piazzetta, circondata e sovrastata da alte case, al cui centro si trova ciò che in ligure è detto treuggiu, termine con cui si indicano vasche e lavatoi per raccogliere acqua piovana e dove le massaie portavano a lavare le loro conche piene di panni e indumenti. Dedicato alla Santa svedese che sostò in città per dirigersi al Vaticano, questo scorcio di quotidianità popolare sarà luogo d’incontro tra culture.

In case any of you were not aware (if so, why have you not been reading my emails and social media posts?!), myself, Greg Dillon, of GreatDrams and Fred Laing of independent Scotch Whisky blenders and bottlers Douglas Laing joined forces in July to battle on the squash court all in the name of charity. In doing so, and owing to your immense generosity, together we raised over £4,500 for the RAF Benevolent Fund and Ollie’s Army, a charity aiming to battle Batten’s disease.

Below is a lot more detail, but I wanted to extend my immense gratitude for all your support, your donations, your shares of posts and your well wishes. This is the start of something pretty special... more details will be divulged in due course.

Two months in the planning the match pitted Laing & Dillon against each other for the first time in the whisky industry’s inaugural charity squash event. Originally the prize if Fred won would be a Crunchie bar - his guilty pleasure - and the prize for Dillon overcoming Laing would be a bottle of Port Ellen from Fred’s personal collection, but they both agreed that regardless of the outcome the bottle from Fred’s collection was to be signed by each competitor and auctioned for the winner’s charity.

After a gruelling match Fred overcame Greg by three games to one, with each man clearly leaving everything on the court.

Explaining his charity choice, Laing explained; “my Dad, FDL, the company founder was an RAF man through and through, and when returned from World War II unscathed, the Scotch Whisky business became his focus. We bottled a butt of Braeval back in 2013 with all proceeds going to the RAF Benevolent Fund, and now the company is seen as part of the RAF family. We try to help this great cause, particularly in this, the RAF’s 100th Anniversary year whenever possible”.

On why he chose Poynton-based Ollie’s Army, Dillon explained that “Batten’s is a devastating rare genetic disease, we have a little boy ourselves and the story of Ollie and his sister really touched myself and my family. No child or parent should have to suffer in this way, which is why we are not only supporting this great cause, but why I was willing to be flung all over the court by Fred in order to raise funds”.

Afterwards, Fred Laing commented that:

“Greg was a  great sport and a memorable, worthy opponent in many ways who would just not lie down; though at stages he did fall down. Seldom have I witnessed such a sharp angled boast so effectively carried out from the front of the court, so it was real shame that the ball was more often at the back. He is a rising star with great squash potential, but he does not travel well, so I’ll look forward to his suggested rematch South of the border next year”.

Laing also insisted that despite the result, the bottle should be auctioned for Ollies Army, a kind and loving gesture from a true gent.

Dillon, smiling despite the result, added that:

“This was all about doing something a bit different for charity that utilises our passion for playing squash in order to raise much needed funds for these two great causes. - it was a superb battle, one I will not forget in a hurry, especially the state my shoulder, knee and pretty much all muscled are in. Fred’s competitiveness was great to see, just wish I could have closed off that fourth game to take it to a deciding fifth. I cannot thank Fred enough for not only his, and his fabulous company’s support for GreatDrams over the years, but also for the generosity shown by donating one of his own bottles to be auctioned for the Ollies Army charity”.

That Port Ellen 34 Year Old, fresh from Fred Laing’s personal collection hailed from the legendary dead distillery of Port Ellen on Islay and was distilled in May of 1982, before being charged from one refill hogshead cask – barrel DL#11481 – and bottled November 2016. When auctioned it fetched £1,060 from an anonymous bidder.

Children with Battens Disease cannot make an enzyme that is responsible for eliminating waste that builds up in the brain. Over time affected children suffer worsening seizures and progressive loss of sight and motor skills. Eventually children with Battens Disease become blind, tube fed, bedridden, and unable to communicate.

Currently there is not treatment for Battens Disease. Battens Disease is always fatal.
