The Sep AU is super interesting, like it grabbed my brain and does not want to let go-
I find it interesting how from the Drax Trios innitial perspective everything Donnie is just justifies their opinion more-
Donnies dark aesthetic, murderous humor, dangerous machines, deadpan attitude and lack of liking of magic combined with his alleged backstory and being friends with a human? U could really argue he got indoctrinated into being a villainous mad scientist or smth. They don't know that that's just him, Donnie TM. I can absolutely see them being worried that "Long lost brother" got brainwashed so badly and how annoying that could be for Donnie himself lol
I'm also curious on Donnies relationship with Splinter. Is it better than in canon or similar to Canon or worse? Since in Canon Donnie is craving parental approval, does he still here?
Thank u for (potentially) answering :)
First of all, "Drax Trio", thank you, I needed an easier way to refer to specifically Raph, Leo and Mikey in this AU so I'm gonna steal that
Second, yeah, Donnie acting like a cartoon villain is really just cementing the Drax Trio's idea that he's been corrupted by humans. You know Draxum's villain song in the show? I can totally see Donnie putting on a perfomance like that XD Speaking of Draxum, to be fair he's very alike Donnie in the way that he's fully embracing the whole Evil Scientist aesthetic, but in that case his sons would just excuse it with "oh haha dad's just a bit silly goofy don't worry about it it's not like he's actually evil!"
Anyway, you know how Mikey basically forced Draxum into having a redemtion arc in the show? He'd try to do the same with Donnie in this AU. I've been thinking about this for a while so I'm defintiely gonna draw it, but he's constantly going full Dr. Feelings mode trying to teach Donnie how to be a "good person" and such and Donnie finds it INCREDIBLY annoying!
And Splinter! Being a single parent taking care of a child who was created to be a super soldier while living in the sewers is HARD, but not nearly as hard as taking care four of them at the same time under the same conditions. So while Splinter is still dealing with depression and burn out in this AU, he's doing better than what he is in canon. For years Splinter and Donnie would literally only have each other, so they'd end up growing closer as a result. That being said, because Donnie didn't have any siblings to spend time with, he'd end up demanding a lot more attention from Splinter. Which he didn't always recieve, because his dad is still very much dealing with a lot of emotional baggage. To summarize, Splinter is still a flawed parent, but he's not terrible by any means, he and Donnie are close, but Donnie is also a lot more lonely (especially before meeting April).

" Time to end with this- "
*Notices P/N in danger while fight with one of the turtles*
" P/N!!! "
☆ -> You can't let your partner die! And the group just want to end with this and bring you to the lair! Just that! It's too much to ask!?
★ -> But everyone except Leo and maybe Mikey(?) knows that you aren't a really good person, but hey this dont't stop them
☆ -> They focus more on capture you with some type of trap that hurt you, and P/N already noticed that, and is really worried with you
★ -> Like they have the violent one(?), the manipulator one, the genius one, the over protective one and the almost normal ones, ALMOST, but how we know they are not
☆ -> They noticed that P/N is more with you and really closer! Jealous
★ -> They need a plan to bring you with them now.
☆ -> And take care of P/N.
Songs! -> 💌 ❔ 🐢

Knowing that he has memory problems does neglected Raph struggle to trust his own judgment?
Like not even just for things gaps in memories makes sense to hinder. I’m talking even when he knows stuff or when memory doesn’t factor in at all, he knows he can’t trust his mind on some things so he struggles to trust it at all
If so, does he ever recover from all that?
(Side note: it’d be super interesting to see them face a villain like Mother May-Eye from Teen Titans 2003)
here's the thing about raph, Raph doesn't trust ppl other than his brothers, april, and casey, so he wouldn't let someone else fact check him, but that doesn't mean he doesn't doubt his own memories. especially since Donnie has rambled at length about how fallible memories are.
There more than a few times where Raph has a memory of something, but Splinter kind of tweaks it or implies it was just ever so slightly different in away that changes things. and if Raph is like "wait that's not what happened" Splinter would imply he doesn't know what he's talking about. never calling him crazy outright, just saying he's remembering it wrong. but isn't it kind of weird that, for some reason, Raph's memory is always "wrong" in a way that benefits Splinter? (Mom Reference)
so anyway, Raph doesn't like being told he remembered something wrong cuz of that, so that's why he only lets his close friends check him and might get aggro if someone he doesn't know well casually implies he's remembering something wrong. (this includes stuff as small as someone saying "i think you remembered this wrong" or "that's not what I remember" even just really small stuff like that can trigger him)
But his defensiveness is just because he does genuinely worry that since he forgets things so much, there's a chance the solid memories he DOES have aren't real. and if that's true then like what is he even doing, right? like how can he be a person in a meaningful way if the things his internal experiences and emotions are based on aren't real? That's what he thinks, at least.
i watched the mother may-eye episode to answer this ask so im gonna address that under the cut now:
I forgot how good the teen titans theme song is. also i forgot about the hive five they're are so fucking cool i wish i was every character in this show wtf. also why that guy sexually harass starfire. kinda like that starfire appears to swear all the damn time but since it's alien swears no one cares.
and the DAY is SAVED by the power of THATS NOT HOW CONCUSSIONS WORKS <3 my favorite storytelling technique tbh. just hit 'em on the head i'm sure it'll work out fine.
SLUR in early 2000's children media: OBSERVED.
really fucked up that they gave it to the Hive Five not knowing if they were gonna escape or get baked or anything. that's. wild.
there's something about a villain who forcibly makes you regress to a childlike state in order to manipulate you that is so fucking uncomfortable, oh my god. especially when they use, like, overly cutesy language. if i did something like that to the neglected gang it would be really gross. so i might do that later then, idk.

“Dead over there. Where you’re from.”
So. Junior is…supposed to be dead? In the—the proper timeline or whatever you want to call it? So if he…if he died here…
[click, static]
Nope, I can’t think about that. Not—not right now anyway. Maybe later, Harriet and I can…
[click, static]
I guess I haven’t really said much about our grand reunion. Well, it wasn’t that grand. I told her where to go, she remembered enough about the song to figure out where it was, and she showed.
It’s…it’s fine. It’s good. It’s terrible. I don’t know. We—
Well, we’re not really talking about anything, you know? Everything that happened before I left, everything that’s happened since, her being alone this whole time, me finding Donnie and then…
Harriet actually—well, unlike Donnie, she wanted to come on the radio with me, “if I insist on broadcasting still”. But I…
I told her no. I don’t know who’s listening to this anymore—or at all. I never know if Birdie is going to drop off the face of the earth, or if Fox gave up, or if there are other people out there who can hear my voice and just not speak back. But this is…this is mine. And maybe it’s selfish, but I’m not—I’m not gatekeeping the radio waves from Harriet. She has her own radio, if she wants to broadcast, she can.
But I don’t want to argue with her on here. I don’t want to have my thoughts and feelings and perceptions called into question when I’m just trying to get all those things out, work through them. And she hasn’t done that so far, not yet but I— I can’t think straight around her. And I need to be able to…I need to keep a level head. I need—
We still haven’t talked about Don. She started to say sorry, but I cut her off before she could finish. I couldn’t bear to hear how to finished it. Would it have been “sorry for your loss”? Or “sorry you blame me for Don’s death”? “Sorry I betrayed you”? “Sorry I led you on for years and we still haven’t—“
[click, static]
It is both harder and easier to be angrier at her when I’m with her. Easier because I have something to aim at, because sometimes I’ll look at her and I’ll see her face in the moment that I told her I—
And then other times, she’ll enter a room and I’ll get that whiff of lavender and turpentine and everything inside me just…melts.
I want to be able to make her the villain in my story—I remember thinking…those first few days I was driving around, I remember thinking that if I found someone, if I really found someone else and we got to talk and get to know each other and really form a bond…well, you know how you practice conversations in your head? Ones you had ten years ago, ones you’re planning to have, ones you know you’ll never have. Well, I would practice talking to this imaginary person and telling the story of my life. It would be so easy to make Harriet the villain—rival into turncoat into nemesis. There’s a clean narrative there, one that I wouldn’t have to lie about to tell. Leave certain things out maybe but…that imaginary person, they’d believe me. They’d be on my side.
But I didn’t find anyone. I just kept talking to the open airwaves and it was so much harder to keep the story straight when I wasn’t telling it all at once. When my feelings on the subject changed every day. When I hadn’t seen Harriet in months and I started to miss her so badly I’d get in my car and start driving back to Pennsylvania only to turn around when I had to stop to refill my gas tank.
I never told you that, I don’t think. I spent so much time, wasted so many miles driving back to her. I always turned around right back around again, had to watch the same road go by.
So maybe I haven’t done a good job of making the story simple, me as hero, her as villain, but the story I’ve been telling is still mine. And I don’t—I’m not ready for her to tell her side of it.

Band kids au master post for now!
Imagine drawing a stupid little car doodle of Leo playing the trumpet which turns into a whole au... couldn't be me...... hahah......
ANYWAY HERE ARE SOME VERY SUCKY DOODLES BECAUSE THIS HAS TAKEN OVER MY BRAIN
Ignore my terrible art this was done in the car and I already have very shaky hands
I call it: The Band Kids Au!!! (Very original, I know😌)
Basically, the turtles literally fight too much crime and rid the entire city of villains, which leaves them with some spare time, and they decide to take up some instruments! Yes this is very logical and could totally happen, in this essay I will- (I know this would probably be impossible but humor me I needed a reason for them to be bored)
I only had the energy to draw each of them with one of their instruments but they each play two;
Donnie plays the piano/keyboard and violin, because of course he'd pick complicated instruments. Yes, he struggles with three fingers. No, that doesn't stop him. Piano and violin, I feel, are some very complicated instruments (especially violin) and I feel like that would appeal to him. I also headcanon him to be ambidextrous, which would very much help with the piano.
Leo plays the trumpet and the guitar, because- because Leo is so trumpet-coded hear me out. And I feel like as the face man, he'd be a good lead guitarist (+ vocalist???). Trumpets have this vibe of loud, and very visible. They, and guitars, often play the melodies, aka the main parts, of a song, and can easily be heard over the rest of the band. Leo is the leader, and the face man. He just vibrates so much trumpet energy dhsbjhbcsbhxehkbaenjkx.
Mikey plays the drums, and vibrophone (aka a xylophone but different)! You can't look at him and tell me he wouldn't love playing both of those instruments. In the episode Hot Soup: The Game, Mikey argues with Raph over being coddled, and not really being given the chance to go off on his own. Drums are ~very~ loud, and noticeable! Plus, I have a feeling he'd love just being able to go off and bang on the drums. He is strong enough to throw a building, after all. Vibrophones are bright and happy, and I feel like they match his personality pretty well! (For those who've listened to Epic the Musical, doesn't Polites remind you of Mikey? Segue, one of Polites's signature instruments, as seen in Open Arms, is the marimba, which is very similar to the vibraphone and xylophone.)
Finally, Raph plays the bass clarinet -WHICH IS NOT A SAXOPHONE- and Tuba! Mostly because he'd have trouble not crushing smaller instruments, but also- he's the baseline. He's what supports the Mad Dogs and holds them up, the largest, much like how a song falls apart without the lower instruments- *COUGH* base clarinet and tuba *COUGH COUGH*. In the movie, when they get their ninpo back, they all circle around and build on Raph's. He's the underlying foundation and support!
They'd probably learn from YouTube tutorials, the internet, and Donnie lol XD
DISCLAIMER: I ONLY PLAY LIKE ONE OF THESE INSTRUMENTS SO I WILL MOST LIKELY DRAW THEM INACCURATELY
Soooooooo... Yeah! Just a little side quest from Herculean Cerulean, if you will :] (they're band kids I will die on this hill)
(Feel free to ask any questions or send requests if you want jshgdhsjak)
Doodles
#Honestly it's just going to be me drawing them as quotes from my band class XD#self indulgent au :]#anyway thank you for coming to my Ted talk#rottmnt#art#digital art#sucky doodles#Band Kids au#:D#Obby art

I made this long time ago, but I thought it's a good time to share it here for @aphasiaweek!
I chose 《Hoi Sam☆Nice Guy》over 《Maji Kandou☆Hong Kong Night》because there are more stuff about HK in it. So let's see if the lyrics are accurate in a native's point of view!
Spoiler alert: it's very accurate
youtube
Hoi Sam = Happy (in Cantonese)
Guy = sounds like street in Cantonese (gaai1)
“Yooooo, so since there’s a song… while I’m at it I kinda put some effort into my costume… I think I’ve got like, serious swag Pardon? You can’t see me…for real? Woah!!!!”
FASHION: yes, HKers love to be trendy, always want to be on top trends! Trends come and go very very quickly, it's seriously really hard to follow trends in HK.
MIXING ENGLISH WITH CANTONESE: yup, we do that a lot, we almost couldn't finish a sentence without English, some words just sound "uncool" in Chinese lol (it’s always about being cool in HK lol), but we don't really say “pardon” unless we are speaking English
Sup-sup-sup-sup-sup-super mobile (snap snap) It’s my hobby to take pics and collect them (I guess) Not gonna lie, everyone’s got a mobile phone, penetration rate (highest in the world) Yeah! If you’re going sightseeing then Nathan Road! (Fuu~!)
TAKING PICS WITH SMARTPHONE: Aph HK loves taking (embarrassing) photos (of China lol), but in real life HKers do love taking pictures, or videos too (it's dangerous if you misbehave, people would film you and post on Youtube or Facebook)
MOBILE PHONE PENETRATION RATE: I couldn't find data for HK, but I think I heard on average, each HKer carries at least 2 cellphones! So this could be true!
NATHAN ROAD: It's the longest street in HK and there's so many things, good food, good shopping places and yup sightseeing! (A lot of our streets are named after the Governors during the colonial time, this street is named after Sir Matthew Nathan for example)
Welcome this makes me kinda happy (Check it out!) Learned this from England - tea in the afternoon (high tea) Welcome, this is kinda fun (Shake it up!) Yum cha, Hong Kong milk tea, cha-cha Nice culture (frivolous)!
AFTERNOON TEA: Yes, it's still a tradition for us to have tea time, we call it 3:15, workplaces would have tea breaks, restaurants do tea time menu during 2-5pm, it's really cool and cheap! We usually drink HK milk tea (evolved from British milk tea) during tea time and there are so many delicious snacks like French toast, pineapple bun and of course egg tart!
youtube
YUM CHA: It literally means “drink tea”, but Chinese tea this time. It's a tradition for us to go Yum Cha every Sunday with our family! Dim sum is part of Yum Cha! We just eat and catch up with each others for HOURS!
Oh. My. God. “LOHAS LOHAS” Oh. My. Mind. “Gonna take a pic~” Take away “Is this delivery service for real?” Like, seriously, even if it’s way out of the way, no problem man
LOHAS: I didn't know what this refers to for a long time, I finally found the answer. This refers to LOHAS park, an eco-friendly residential area newly built few years ago. But what's so special about it? Is it famous in Japan?!
DELIVERY SERVICE: Well delivery service in Asia are generally good anyway, but I guess we are good and fast?! (but I think Korea too!)
Super Feeling unlucky? If it’s getting to you, go villain hitting at Ngo Keng Kiu A medium will perform an exorcism, and hit a paper doll with a shoe For fortune telling, go draw fortune sticks, or get a divine answer by throwing moon blocks at the temples at Wong Tai Sin, light the fire of your incense! If you’re feeling tired, maybe you can give Feng Shui a try or something? A spiritual site in Lantau Island The Wisdom Path…is super Awesome for meditation, but there aren’t any toilets, so watch out Gold fish, bring me luck! (In money!)
youtube
NGO KENG KIU: Generally HKers are not THAT superstitious, but the culture still lives within us. I have never known anyone who did the villain hitting, but it's still quite a thing (and a great tourist spot). It's mainly for people who backstab you (we call them "small people" siu yan), but I guess evil spirit too.
WONG TAI SIN: Again, it's more for older generation who are still a bit superstitious. People like to go to Wong Tai Sin Temple during Lunar New Year to wish for luck in the new year. It's still quite popular!
See I told you we have natural landscape (source)
WISDOM PATH: I've never been there lol. Apparently it's a "path lined with 38 wooden monuments inscribed with the Heart Sutra prayer". In general, HK has a lot of nice hiking trail, our landscape is actually amazing, it's just we focus too much on making money...
P-Pe-Pe-Pearl of the Orient is me! (I guess?) Got completely wasted? Ended up in a dress (totes sick) Not gonna lie, population density is highest in the world in Ap Lei Chau Yeah! If you’re going sightseeing then Hong Kong Island! (Yeah~!!)
PEARL OF THE ORIENT: It's the nickname of HK, the Philippines is Pearl of the Orient SEAS
(Ending up in a dress refers to this comic, thanks parallel France!)
POPULATION DENSITY: Yea, that's what we are famous for really, small place lots of people (HK is a very hilly city, surprise, surprise), we have the most expensive estate price in the world 🤦♀️, not sure if Ap Lei Chau is particularly population-densed, but the whole HK is like that!
Good luck in everything this makes me kinda happy (Check it out!) Learned this from England - how to be a gentleman (ladies first) I wish you good health, this is kinda fun (Shake it up!) Typhoon, Kung Fu, WA-TAHH Supplements, Chinese herbal medicine (healthy~!)
LUCK: The newer generations are less superstitious now, but luck is still kind of important for us? It's more like a tradition than a belief, we do them just in case (like Feng Shui).
TYPHOON: As a coastal city, we get typhoons a lot in summer, but they are not as strong in comparison to the Philippines or Indonesia.
KUNG FU: We are known for our Kung Fu films, as the actors are all trained martial artists! Bruce Lee (WA-TAH was his catchphrase), Jackie Chan and Donnie Yen are great examples! Because of the wars and Cultural Revolution, many people fled China to HK, resulting the influx of high quality martial artists (eg. Ip Man).
HERBAL MEDICINE: As western as we are, we still believe in Chinese Medicine, but more in a preventative way.
Oh. My. God. “Air conditioning in full blast!” Oh. My. Mind. “That’s not eco-friendly…” Oh well “The air will become cleaner, I think?” Seriously a Mistake, but, no problem man
STRONG AIR-CONDITIONING: This line had me laugh die (Imao in Cantonese)! It's so accurate! You can catch a cold from the airconditioning in HK! And that's why we always carry a jacket even in summer! It's not very eco-friendly and our government is trying resolve that.
AIR POLLUTION: Yes we have smog (smoke + fog), it is becoming quite the problem really. The root of the problem is that Shenzhen, the city next to HK, is developing rapidly and a lot of factories moved there, so the smoke is blown towards HK (we don't really have many factories left, it's too expensive here).
Awesome Riding on a roofless bus, cruising through the neon streets If you want to, like, go shopping… at Ladies Market There are stalls with cute stuff, souvenirs (lots and lots of them) Talk the price down! Haggling is what really counts For some more miscellaneous and deep junk, more for the adult and thrilling The street where mystery thickens… Temple Street Would you like to try some cheap eats at the street stalls? Absolutely delicious! Asian food is the best!
NEON LIGHTS: You've all seen the stereotypical HK streets full of neon lights, but it's actually decreasing, because there's no newcomers to the industry (the lights are handmade).
LADIES MARKET: You can find so many stuff there indeed, for a cheap price! Branded stuff, fake stuff (we don't make them but yea you can find a lot of them), food and goldfish. Yes, there's a goldfish street. Why? I dunno, for luck I guess?!
TEMPLE STREET: Similar to ladies market, it's also great for shopping. This street is also known for (illegal) prostitution and triad, but it's still safe to visit, never in my life have I encountered any of them.
“Yoooooo, Mister, so I kinda sang this song, but seriously, rapping is surprisingly, like, tough?” “It’s also a shame that no one can see what I’m wearing, I’ve got serious swag, y'know.” “Phew… I kinda want to go home already… I mean, the peach buns are gonna be sold out.” “…can we go now?” “…can’t we go yet?” “Haah…” “Okay fine, like, whatever.”
One, two, three!*
PEACH BUN: They are actually eaten on birthdays, for longevity (that's what peach represents in Chinese culture).
*this line was spoken in Mandarin in the song, which would be the only critism I'd give. Yes a lot of people may understand Mandarin, but Cantonese and English are preferred and they are our official languages. One, two, three in Cantonese would be "yaat, yi, sam".
Oh. My. God. “The rent is really expensive…” Oh. My. Mind. “It’s not easy…” Why oh why? “It’s like, the highest in the world” We have serious inflation, but, whatever
EXPENSIVE RENT: We are the most expensive in the world, thanks to the high population density (and foreign buyers 😶), it's really not easy to afford a flat in HK, that’s why most HKers live with their parents until they get married (it’s also a cultural thing).
INFLATION: Stuff are still relatively cheap, but they are getting more expensive really quickly, mainly because of the rent of the shops.
Super they’re so adorable it hurts, the perfect balance of black and white pandas that bring you happiness… we sell them, sort of So fluffy and cute, such big round eyes The kinda? Make you Happy! Uh-huh
PANDAS: We actually only have 2 pandas here like everyone else, in Ocean Park (it's like an amusement park and zoo). They finally successfully mated recently, probably because of Corona shutdown lol!
There are over 100 of them, Tin Hau Temple, so super Before I head there, I seriously wanna eat… mango pudding! So many gods, like, one in every street Pay homage at the temple, light the fire of your incense!
TEMPLES: We still have the temples built before the colonial time! Hopefully, we are able to keep them too...
youtube
MANGO PUDDING: It's so good yes! Our dessert culture is just the best seriously! We have so many restaurants just for desserts! They are great places to hang out with friends after work or school!
The air conditioning at its max, the fire burning strong A steaming hot pot made with a carefully chosen soup base If you want to detox, have a Chinese herbal hot pot Absolutely delicious! Asian food is the best! Riding on a roofless bus, cruising through the neon streets If you want to, like, go shopping… at Ladies Market There are stalls with cute stuff, souvenirs, lots and lots of them Talk the price down! Haggling is what really counts Absolutely delicious! Asian food is the best! Every minute Happy☆Nice Town (Guy)
HOT POT: We love it! We basically love when a lot of people sit together, talking, sharing food (like Yum Cha), it's the harmony and atmosphere that we like so much! And yes, there are a lot of different soup base you can choose from!
BARGAINING: Yes do it, especially if you're in places like Ladies' Market and you're a foreigner, they do price things up if you don't look like a local.
***
Shout out to Takagi Motoki, the voice actor of HK, his voice fits the character perfectly! (and please get a new va for the new season please funimation) And how can he speak so fast?!
#aphasiaweek#APH Hong Kong#hws hong kong#hetalia#not biased at all but hk has one of the best character songs pls give him new songs in the new season himapapa#sorry im not following the prompts that well i dont have much time to make stuff#science poetry coming up i promise#Hong Kong culture

the disney renaissance films, ranked
9) tarzan (1999)
let me get a few things straight: 1) i like this movie! and 2) it has the second best soundtrack of any disney movie
however i’m not sure i even consider this a renaissance film. i think its animation is weak compared to the other renaissance flims. i don’t love the story either.
what i do find interesting about this movie (other than the excellent soundtrack) is how dark it is. it’s pretty violent for a disney movie, especially when the villain, clayton, accidentally & graphically hangs himself. most other disney films show the villain vaguely falling to their death, but not this one!
8) aladdin (1992)
okay i feel really bad about ranking this film so low, but it’s just not my favorite. i LOVE the character of the genie. he’s one of disney’s best characters. however i don’t find aladdin himself that likable! and i hate abu! not a fan of jafar either!
a whole new world is the only standout song on the soundtrack. there’s no standout animation. jasmine deserved better.
7) pocahontas (1995)
i am pocahontas defense squad. at this point in the list, i truly enjoy all the movies.
let’s get the obvious out of the way: this movie is problematic. they absolutely should not have based the main character off a real person. but i think overall it’s less problematic than you might think: the movie makes it clear that the english were greedy and stole land. they did not make most of them out to be favorable. the romance between pocahontas and john smith is very... questionable (especially the part where pocahontas magically learns to speak english?) but the fact that john smith sails away at the end makes me feel a little better.
so now let’s get a few things straight: 1) the animation is BEAUTIFUL 2) there are many standout songs on the soundtrack, including colors of the wind, just around the riverbend, and most importantly, SAVAGES PART 2 3) meeko is genuinely hilarious
also quick fun fact: this movie came out shortly after the lion king. the walt disney company was expecting pocahontas to be their big movie and devoted most of their resources to this movie instead of the lion king. well let’s just say the lion king outperformed pocahontas at the box office
6) hercules (1997)
this is the first movie i saw in theaters! so here’s what i like about this movie:
a great story! a god living on earth, not knowing he’s a god, presumed dead by his god parents? the drama of it all!
AMAZING soundtrack. the muses add an element to the soundtrack disney hasn’t done before. some of the best music of any disney movie. my favorite is i won’t say i’m in love.
lots of color in the animation! i love a good colorful movie.
hades is one of disney’s best villains. disney managed to make him likable but not sympathetic. this is a different approach than many of the other disney movies at this time
5) hunchback of notre dame (1996)
i am OBSESSED with this movie and let me tell you why:
first and foremost, it is so dang dark! the movie starts out with judge claude frollo trying to drown a baby in front of a church. so there’s that. frollo ends up “raising” quasimodo and just emotionally abusing him. quasimodo is like: i’m ugly :( and then frollo burns down paris because he wants to fuck esmeralda. many believe this movie wouldn’t have been made today because it’s so dark. however disney was so successful at this point they were just like *shrug emoji* let’s release a movie about catholic guilt.
the soundtrack is amazing. it’s so dramatic! hellfire is one of the standout songs just because it is so messed up. this entire movie is so messed up. i love it
4) the little mermaid (1989)
there she is! the movie that started this all! disney was producing straight trash until our man men ron clements and john musker came to save the day and directed this fine film.
like i said, this is the movie that kicked off the renaissance era. it revived the idea of a disney princess. it revived the idea of an animated movie with a strong soundtrack. it revived the idea of putting effort into producing quality animated films! the importance of this film cannot be stated enough. along with colorful animation it has a great soundtrack. under the sea is one of my favorite songs ever.
3) mulan (1998)
one of my all time favorite movies. perfection. mulan is such a strong character. probably my favorite main character from any disney movie. her story has such a strong feminist message.
the animation? beautiful! the villain: legitimately so scary. the animal sidekicks?: i would die for them.
the songs in the movie are so so beautiful. reflection and i’ll make a man out of you are two of the most iconic disney songs. lea salonga and donny osmond knocked this out of the park. my only gripe is there should be more songs.
anyway “the greatest gift and honor is having you as a daughter”
2) beauty and the beast (1991)
honesty hour i like mulan better BUT this movie is just so so important to disney history. this was disney’s time to prove itself. the little mermaid was excellent but could they do it again? turns out they could!
this soundtrack is so special to me. it was the last thing howard ashman composed before dying of complications from aids. he never got to see the final product. every song is perfect.
the animation is beautiful. the character design!!! the animators did an excellent job with lumiere, cogsworth, and mrs potts. the managed to make gaston so hot.
now for some fun facts: disney had been thinking about making this movie since the 1930s. they sat on this one for a long time. i’m glad they made it at the time they did, when they had the budget and talent to make it truly special.
an unfinished version of this movie was shown at the new york film festival. even though the animation wasn’t complete, it got a standing ovation. that’s how great this movie is.
1) the lion king (1994)
not just my favorite disney movie, but my favorite movie of all time. i love this movie so so much. i watch it like once a month lol
what makes this movie so compelling is the story. simba lived for so long thinking he was responsible for mufasa’s death!!! the amount of tragedy and drama is unparalleled. my favorite scene is when rafiki find simba as an adult and is like “he lives in you” omg the drama
however this movie manages to be humorous as well, thanks to timone and pumba. they aren’t introduced until like 30 minutes into the movie but manage to make the biggest impression. i would die for them
the soundtrack is by far disney’s best. my mans elton john knocked it out of the park. every song is a bop. the instrumental music playing in the background is insane. it’s so dramatic/perfect
lastly, THE ANIMATION!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! it’s unparalleled. it’s so colorful. the animals are drawn beautifully. the backgrounds are jaw dropping. i cannot get over it
***rescuers down under was not included on this list for reasons that should be obvious

a rant about mamma mia 2, because @starlene asked...
the farther i get away from having seem mm2, the less i like it. like yes, yay, it's a fun happy movie musical with beautiful scenery and abba bops, but i don't love it nearly as much as i feel like i should, and with the general relentless love for it i feel like i need to justify it. i enjoyed watching it the first time, i saw it twice, but i'm not sure i'll be rushing to get it on dvd or to watch it again. it feels like one or two of these on their own wouldn't have even been something to note, but they obviously have added up. and i'd hope this much was obvious, but this is all a bunch of my opinions.
first off, the plot on the whole. apparently the decision to kill off donna was because meryl was busy (on the post, i think) - but they could have done anything else. donna trusts sophie to look after the villa while she reconciles with her mother, maybe, so she doesn't appear for 90% of the movie. instead we get a plot that really sours the first movie in hindsight. i'm glad that the stage show is so so different from the movie - it meant that i could sit and enjoy the brilliant australian dynamos jumping on a bed during dancing queen without it being shadowed by that grief. whereas it's harder to watch the first movie now, knowing what's to come.
they didn't even handle the decision to kill her off well. she's the heart and soul of the first movie, and we don't even know how she died. sure, they didn't want to dwell on that, but it's not something that can be ignored. was it sudden, an aneurysm or a heart attack? was it an accident, a car crash or a boat sinking? was it an illness, was it short or long? we don't even know that much, and it feels like them brushing her off. and losing someone to a sudden cause is going to be different to watching them die slowly. make this movie about her life, yes, but don't gloss over her death.
the way they shoehorned in ruby wasn't great, either. she didn't show for donna's graduation, it sounds like she didn't show at any point during sophie's childhood. it doesn't even sound like she turned up for her only daughter's funeral. but she shows up for a party. this could have been handled so much better. you've only got cher for three days? have it be ruby turning up to see donna, before or after sophie is born, as a final goodbye, a final disowning. she's supposed to be dead anyway. instead she's just really shitty. she could have had her grand dame entrance be amazing and lowkey villainous but bleh. plus, that deals with the weirdness of cher and meryl being three years apart - which isn't even an issue i'd otherwise bring up here, but it could have been avoided. not like we got a scene with them onscreen together anyway, a wasted opportunity.
i hate that they changed ruby from being a probably uptight catholic woman who disowned her daughter for getting pregnant out of wedlock to a claire zachanassian-looking vegas performer who did the exact same thing. and then they imply fernando is donna's father. which is just. weird.
it brushed off tanya and rosie too. like, a lot. there's no moment when they really get to shine, which is a shame. i wish the actors playing their younger versions had more to work with - they were brilliantly cast and brilliantly performed, but really, the parallels between their younger and older selves were reduced to cake, wine, and their libidos. they could have come to the island after sam left, had a lovely chiquitita-esque moment - as good as new, as a trio song about friendship, i don't know what. just let them be caring loving friends a bit more please.
they did kind of reduce tanya and rosie to a few personality traits, but at least you could see the connection. meanwhile young donna never gelled as donna for me. she did fine, i wasn't sold on her voice, but god, she was never donna. nothing about the way young donna was written translated to donna.
(and on her voice - she's the one singing lead, when you've got an actual broadway performer literally right there, who can definitely outsing her. at least meryl has guts to her voice, rather than sounding airy and really unenergetic. when i kissed the teacher sounds so flat.)
rosie's crush on bill was just weird and uncomfortable. again with the discontinuity, she and tanya didn't even know about harry and bill in the first movie. and now i'm supposed to believe she's harboured a crush on this guy for twenty years.
bill's twin being bill-in-a-fat-suit was also really uncomfortable. if they wanted a hilarious contrast to fake us out, give him a mullet and a really ugly suit. instead, it's 2018, let's keep making fat people are funny jokes, that's not old and offensive at all!
and another uncomfortable thing. the locals at the villa went from being a fairly mixed group in terms of age and appearance to skewing so young and generic. and we went from them sassing donna, opening a trapdoor in the ceiling and throwing her in, laughing at her - to the staff of the villa fawning over sophie. it was really weird. like, sophie grew up there, she probably knew some of them from a young age, and they look like a kalokairi version of a period drama that uses interchangable extras for the uptight and extremely well behaved staff.
on the fawning locals, going from donna inheriting money and buying the building to donna getting handed it also sucks. like, bill realises he could be sophie's father because donna inherited money from a sophia - this pretty solidly negates that. a sophia on the mainland, at that. but it also kind of cheapens donna's strength - she gets pregnant in her early twenties, but she makes it, through sheer grit, and part of that is caring for an elderly woman, and apparently doing a good enough job of that to be left money in this woman's will, and then using that to start a business. instead, she's just handed a free (admittedly crappy) building? and let's be real, no way you could start up a hotel from a rundown building when you're a broke single mother with a newborn.
wasn't sold on the design either. you can tell that it's a new location, a new director, a new costume designer. i'm sure there was a reason for the new location but it still looked odd. i don't know what it was about the costumes that didn't gel either - but they just didn't. which is weird, because michele clapton is brilliant. i think it just moved too far from the aesthetic of the movie and the stage show. too clean-cut.
they made the young dads too bland, too. sure, we probably won't going to get the full version of donna's flashbacks, but long hair on sam, make harry a bit rockier. (at least bill's hair was kind of long.) her memory would have exaggerated them, but there has to have been something to exaggerate.
and now that i think about it, i think they might have forgotten bill's knee tattoos. despite multiple instances in the first movie where the entire frame is bill's knees.
on being an abba fan - i've been a fan of abba since i was about six, so i came into this knowing the songs. i jolted in my seat at i let the music speak as an instrumental, and i wish they'd done more of that. like, that was a good move. it has brought out some gorgeous songs that a lot of people didn't know - i love i've been waiting for you, and despite the mammoth lyric rewrites, i'm glad people know it.
but they did kisses of fire dirty. it's a great song, they could have even had the supposed-to-be-awful version turn into the relatively good version on the soundtrack, rather than having donna get up and sing andante andante. it's a pretty song, it's also an incredibly slow song, so somehow it doesn't strike me as that band's genre. if they wanted to maul a bizarre song, it's not like abba is short of extremely niche specific songs they could have used. they could have used king kong song, and really they should have.
i did have the thought of dance (while the music still goes on) as a duet between donna and either harry or bill. this gets lumped into the i-could-have-done-it-better category of ideas alongside and the entire previous paragraph. alongside why did it have to be me getting some lyrics from happy hawaii thrown in the mix. they'd have fit so so well and it would be such a niche joke.
i'm also annoyed that one of the best vocal performances in the entire movie is helen sjöholm in the background singing hasta mañana. you don't see her, you have to be looking specifically to see her in the credits - like i was, having gone "oh holy shit i know this voice but it isn't agnetha or anni-frid who the fuck is it" and then losing my everloving mind. we don't have that as a recording. but we have a full length version of kisses of fire. which, to be fair, gives young rosie and tanya a bit more singing time because they got screwed in the movie. but i'm still annoyed.
also, they never told us whether or not sophie and sky got married despite it being the plot of the first one (though this may have been intentional).
also, donnie is not a great name and not a great tribute to donna, and it just makes me think of the adopted brother in the wild thornberrys, which isn't a good connection.
to conclude, it's 3am and i need to sleep and i've undoubtedly forgotten something else that massively annoyed me. there were things in it that i liked, but they aren't relevant, so they're not mentioned. but i'm going to leave it at that. apologies for any weird phrasings or repetitiveness, i'm not proofreading this, i barely even structured it.

For the week of 7 May 2018
Quick Bits:
Accell #10 begins the next arc, largely focusing this issue on Danny trying to get back on his feet, and assess damage and reparations of his personal life. Joe Casey and Damion Scott are still giving us the most traditional superhero book of the line here.
| Published by Lion Forge / Catalyst Prime
Analog #2 is an interesting throwback. I like how Gerry Duggan, in creating this future, has effectively tossed us back to the stylistic action and intrigue of 70s and 80s thrillers.
| Published by Image
Backways #5 is the explosive conclusion to the first arc. The story reveals some of the extremes that Anna can go to with her powers as she attempts to save Sylvia. Eleonora Carlini and Silvia Tidei really shine with the art.
| Published by AfterShock
Despicable Deadpool #300 is a bit of a mess, but I get that was intentional. All of the “Marvel Universe Kills Deadpool” arc has been one failure after another as the assorted heroes and villains of Marvel have been unable to stop Deadpool. The ultimate solution leads to an opportunity for Gerry Duggan to travel through many of the highlights of his run on the series.
| Published by Marvel
Domino #2 continues the fun, action, and weird moments of self-reflection showing the true vulnerabilities and insecurities of tough-as-nails mercenaries of the first issue. Gail Simone is doing a great job at bringing out the depth of Domino’s character and the art from David Baldeón and Jesus Aburtov is gorgeous. I had pretty high hopes for this series, given how entertaining Simone’s previous work on Agent X and Deadpool were, and she’s exceeded expectations.
| Published by Marvel
Exiles #3 is still following the whirlwind pace set by the first two issues as the team continues racing through the multiverse, gathering new and old allies, as they try to come up with a plan to stop the Time Eater. This, of course, allows Javier Rodríguez to really step up with his designs and layouts for the weird and crazy worlds the team is travelling to.
| Published by Marvel
The Highest House #4 is consistently some of the best art and storytelling in comics right now, with beautiful artwork from Peter Gross and Fabien Alquier, as the intrigue in Mike Carey’s script hits a fever pitch.
| Published by IDW
Hungry Ghosts #4 ends the series on a high note, with stories illustrated by Irene Koh and Francesco Francavilla. Like the previous issues, the stories from Anthony Bourdain and Joel Rose are likely to be familiar to you, especially the Snow Woman as variants of it have been told and retold multiple times, but they’re well told here. And with wonderful artwork, all deftly elevated by José Villarrubia’s colours.
| Published by Dark Horse
Hunt for Wolverine: Adamantium Agenda #1 is the second of these mini-series, this one following a handful of Logan’s New Avengers compatriots. That remit at least makes more sense than the Weapon Lost premise, and leads to a flashback of Wolverine selflessly taking one for the team and thus having Iron Man, Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Spider-Man start chasing down a lead for a DNA sequence sale in the present. Tom Taylor’s story gets more interesting from there and I look forward to seeing where this goes. Also, some really nice artwork from RB Silva, Andriano di Benedetto, and Jesus Aburtov. If given the chance, I wouldn’t mind seeing this creative team do more New Avengers, or even Defenders, material once this is over.
| Published by Marvel
Isola #2 is probably the most beautiful thing you’re going to find on the shelves this week, which is saying something since there’s also an issue of Monstress. Karl Kerschl and Msassyk are just raising the bar higher and higher on how gorgeous the comics page can look in the span of two simple issues. Apart from being a visual treat, the story is also captivating. Kerschl and Brenden Fletcher have a fable here that taps into the same kind of magical realism, whimsy, and ephemeral beauty of a Hayao Miyazaki film and it’s incredibly engrossing.
| Published by Image
Medieval Spawn & Witchblade #1 is some decent dark fantasy. Brian Holguin, Brian Haberlin, and Geirrod Van Dyke set up a pretty bleak, undead tainted past to throw what appears to be a new Medieval Spawn into, as much of this issue works to flesh out the mystery of his past and the blight that currently besets the land. No sign of a Witchblade yet. Some nice dark and moody art from Haberlin and Van Dyke.
| Published by Image
New Mutants: Dead Souls #3 is a turning point for the story, giving us essentially a reason for why all of this weird stuff is going on and more particularly why at least some of these former members of different incarnations of the New Mutants are present. All while the team starts turning on itself as Matthew Rosenberg begins to deal with some of the continuity and history of the team members. It’s good. If you’re a long time reader of these characters, you should love this. If you’re not and you’re a newcomer with this series, it’s still fun, with some great Adam Gorham art.
| Published by Marvel
Oblivion Song #3 raises some interesting questions about the people who were transported over into Oblivion. How living through that nightmare for ten years could have changed them, possibly made them go feral, and how troublesome it might be to have them readjust to life in a safe and sane world. Obviously the answer would seem to be to bring them back anyway, but it’s still an interesting question.
| Published by Image / Skybound
Old Man Logan #39 actually has a pretty clever play on one of the X-Men’s most prestigious stories in the title as “Glob Loves, Man Kills”. That should give you an idea as to the content of this issue, but I won’t spoil the surprise if you’re unsure. That said, we get more development on Old Man Logan’s problems with his healing factor, and Glob has a date. Nice artwork from Ibraim Roberson and Carlos Lopez, and it’s welcome again, like his run on Cable, that Ed Brisson is playing with the wider world of X-characters.
| Published by Marvel
Peter Parker: The Spectacular Spider-Man #304 reminds you not to mess with the past, even if it’s ostensibly for a good reason. It never works out. Except in the art department. Adam Kubert gets to show off some nice redesigns for the heroes here and a really nice new version of a somewhat surprising villain.
| Published by Marvel
Port of Earth #5 returns us to Mac and Rice’s plight, with Rice not only dealing with the loss of his girlfriend, but finally figuring out what the alien was up to with his stolen badge. This is still a relatively slow moving series, with the issues fairly systematically broken down into an opening section that focuses on a documentary style analysis of the Port, the contract with the aliens, and the ESA and then the action following Mac and Rice, but it’s entertaining.
| Published by Image / Top Cow
Punks Not Dead #4 is still somehow raising the bar on how inexplicably strange this series can get, even as it’s making more and more sense.
| Published by IDW / Black Crown
Resident Alien: An Alien in New York #2 unfurls the mystery further as Harry and Dan try to figure out who wrote an NYC phone number in alien script. Steve Parkhouse’s art, as usual, really draws you in.
| Published by Dark Horse
Rough Riders: Ride or Die #4 is a fitting conclusion to the adventures of Teddy Roosevelt and his band of luminaries, even if we may see a different incarnation somewhere down the line. Adam Glass and Patrick Olliffe created a worthwhile real life analogue to literary supergroups like League of Extraordinary Gentlemenand the three series are worth picking up.
| Published by AfterShock
The Spider King #4 brings an end to this excellent mix of Viking action and weird science. It’s been a great story with amazing art, highly recommended.
| Published by IDW
Venom #1 is pretty damn good. The story from Donny Cates is compelling, building up a mystery for strange behaviour from the symbiote and expanding upon the Venom history, but stealing the spotlight is the art. Ryan Stegman was a good artist, with this issue he’s laying claim to being a great artist. With JP Mayer providing inks over Stegman’s pencils and Frank Martin delivering on the colour work, this is a damn fine looking comic. A great debut.
| Published by Marvel
World of Tanks: Citadel #1 is somewhere between Garth Ennis’ two usual war story extremes; the deeply serious realistic tales of historical war battles and incidents of series like War Stories and the over-the-top dark humour of Adventures in the Rifle Brigade. As such, it’s all right. Most of it is set up, allowing the tank drivers and gunners to get acquainted with their vehicles and crew. The art from PJ Holden and Michael Atiyeh is fairly nice.
| Published by Dark Horse
Other Highlights: Astonisher #7, Barbarella #6, Betrothed #3, Betty & Veronica: Vixens #6, Black Cloud #9, Calexit #3, Dejah Thoris #4, Dissonance #3, Ghostbusters: Answer the Call #5, Ghost Money #10, Green Hornet #3, Incredible Hulk #716, Jim Henson’s Fraggle Rock #1, Maestros #6, Monstress #16, Outcast #35, Planet of the Apes: Ursus #5, Prism Stalker #3, Pumpkinhead #3, ROM & The Micronauts #5, Rose #11, Runaways #9, Savage Tales: Vampirella, Sleepless #6, Southern Bastards #20, Spider-Man vs. Deadpool #32, Star Trek: The Next Generation - Through the Mirror #2, Star Wars: Darth Vader #16, Star Wars: The Last Jedi #1, Star Wars Adventures #10, Star Wars: Thrawn #4, Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #32, Xena: Warrior Princess #4, X-Men Blue #27, You Are Deadpool #2

Duke Reviews: Sleeping Beauty
Hello, I'm Andrew Leduc And Welcome To Duke Reviews Where We Continue Our Look At Disney...
youtube
By Talking About Walt's 16th Animated Feature, Sleeping Beauty...
This Film Tells The Sleeping Beauty Tale While Also Including Arrangements Or Adaptations Of Numbers From The 1890 Sleeping Beauty Ballet By Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky...
So, After That Number, Let's Talk About Walt Disney's Sleeping Beauty...
The Film Starts Like Cinderella And Snow White Did With The Opening Of A Book, With Our First Song Afterwards...
youtube
And It's Short But To The Point As It Shows The Kingdom Celebrating The Birth Of The Princess Aurora..
At Aurora's Christiening, The King And Queen Are Visited By King Hubert And Prince Phillip (Who Is Betrothed To The Just Born Aurora) Before The Arrival Of The 3 Good Fairies, Flora, Fauna And Merryweather
Or As I Like To Call Them Disney's Animated Version Of The Golden Girls...
Anyway, The Fairies Have Come To Give Gifts To Aurora On This Day Of Happiness...
youtube
(Start At 1:48)
But Before Merryweather Can Bestow Her Gift Upon The Child, She Is Interrupted By The Arrival Of One Of Disney's Best Villains, Maleficent, Who Is Upset To Have Not Been Given An Invitation To The Party, But Bearing No Ill Will, She Bestows Her Gift Upon Aurora...
youtube
(Start At 1:23, End At 3:09)
Fearful Of Aurora's Life, King Stefan Decrees That All Spinning Wheels In The Kingdom Shall Be Burned Immediately, But Knowing That That Will Not Stop Maleficent, The 3 Fairies Decide To Take Aurora To Live With Them In The Forest Until Her 16th Birthday, Changing Her Name To Briar Rose To Keep Her Identity A Secret...
Over The Years, Maleficent Has Had Her Men Searching For Aurora While Also Working On Her Main Goal To Find The Seven Princesses Of Heart In An Attempt To Take Over The Universe...
But That's Not Important Right Now As Maleficent Discovers That All Those 16 Years Her Men Have Been Looking For A Baby The Entire Time...
Blasting Her Men For Their Incompetence, She Decides To Leave It All Up To Her Raven...
To Find Aurora...
And Speaking Of Aurora, She Has Grown Into A Very Beautiful Woman While Being Raised By The Fairies Who She Believes Are Actually Her Aunts And Are Planning A Surprise Party On This Day. So, They Send Her Out To Get Berries...
While Doing So, She Sings To Entertain Her Animal Friends, Which Grows To Gain The Attention Of The Now Grown Up Prince Phillip, Who Is Out Riding In The Woods Eventually This Leads To Our Next 2 Songs, Starting With I Wonder...
youtube
(End At 1:13)
And It's Okay...
While Not The Best Song Of The Movie, I Do Like It For It's Soft Tone But Unlike The Next Song It's Not Very Memorable...
And Speaking Of The Next Song...
youtube
And This Is The Song Most Connected With This Movie...
It's A Lovely Song And You Can't Help But Sing It, It's Probably My Favorite Song Of The Entire Movie...
Realizing She Has To Return Home, Aurora Flees Without Even Learning Phillip's Name...
But Back At Home, Things Are Not Going So Well As The Cake The Fairies Made Is A Disaster And The Dress They Made Is Even Worse, This Leads Them To Get Their Wards Out Of Mothballs So They Can Make A Proper Cake And Dress...
But When An Arguement Of Color Leads To A Magic Fight Between Flora And Merryweather, It Causes Magic To Appear Through The Roof Which Gains The Attention Of Maleficent's Raven...
Hearing Aurora Singing, They Stop Fighting And Get Things Back To The Way They Were. Seeing The Outfit And The Cake It's A Wonderful Surprise But It Goes To Hell When Aurora Mentions Meeting A Guy...
Maleficent's Raven Watches As The Fairies Tell Aurora The Truth, Saying That She Can Never See That Boy Again (Despite Being Unaware That It Was Phillip That She Met)
Meanwhile At The Castle, King Stefan Awaits His Daughter's Return While Celebrating With King Hubert, This Leads To Our Next Song...
youtube
(Start At 0:59)
While More Of A Funny Drinking Song, I Do Like It And The Scene During It Is Hysterical At Times..
Hearing That Phillip Has Returned, Hubert Goes Out To See Him Only To Hear About The Peasent Girl He Met, Who He Wants To Marry Now, Despite Being Engaged All These Years To Aurora (And Being Again Completely Unaware That It Is Aurora That He's In Love With)...
Hubert Tries To Talk Phillip Out Of Marrying The Peasent Girl And Instead Marry Aurora But It Fails As Phillip Rides Off To Go Find Her...
Taking Aurora To The Castle, The Fairies Leave Aurora In A Room Only For Her To Continue Crying Her Eyes Out Like A Sieve (It's A Miracle The Whole Room Doesn't Flood From Her Tears) Until The Sun Sets...
Using Her Magic, Maleficent Lures Aurora Away From Her Chambers...
And Up To The Tallest Tower Where A Spinning Wheel Is Waiting For Her, Touching The Spindle And Pricking Her Finger, She Is Put Under The Sleeping Curse As The Fairies Arrive Too Late To Stop Her...
Placing Her On A Bed With A Red Rose In Her Hand, They Cause A Deep Sleep To Fall Over The Entire Kingdom Until They Can Find A Way To Break The Curse As Our Next Song Plays...
youtube
(End At 2:25)
Realizing That They Have To Get To The Cottage, The Fairies Race Back There In A Hurry But They Arrive Too Late Again As When Prince Phillip Got There He Fell Into...
Set By Maleficent In An Effort To Prevent Him From Waking Aurora. Going To Maleficent's Fortress At The Forbidden Mountain, The Fairies Help Phillip To Escape By Giving Him A Enchanted Sword And Shield To Help Him Get Through Maleficent's Forces So He Can Escape Her Fortress...
youtube
Climbing The Tower Into Aurora's Chambers, Phillip Goes To Kiss Aurora To Break The Curse...
youtube
And That's Sleeping Beauty And It's One Of The Best Disney Animated Movies...
The Story Is Well Written, The Characters Are Well-Written, The Villain Is The Best And The Background And Art By Evynd Earle Is Well Drawn....
However, It Does Have 2 Problems One Being Auroa And Phillip Only Talk In The First Half Of The Movie...
Yeah, After Aurora Hears That She's A Princess From The Fairies And After Philip Rides Off For Aurora's Cottage From The Castle That's The Last Time They Speak..
Why? Did Walt Want The Music To Stand Out More? Were The Actors Unavailable To Lend Their Voices? Cause Either Way This Sucks...
I Mean, I Can Understand Aurora Not Saying Anything As She's Under Maleficent's Curse For Most Of The Second Half Of The Movie But At The End Of The Film She Could Have Said A Couple Of Words...
Also You Would Expect Phillip To Have Words To Say To Maleficent In Her Dungeon And Words To Say To The Fairies When They're Saving His Life...
But No, He Says Nothing...
And Second, King Stefan, His Wife And King Hubert Must Be Gods Or Something Because They Don't Age Throughout The Entire Movie...
Yeah, They Look The Same Age As They Did When Aurora Was A Baby Throughout The Movie Which Is Slightly Disturbing If You Think About It...
I Mean Stefan Should Have A Little Grey In His Beard, His Wife Should Look A Little Older Than She Looks And Hubert, Well, With His Age He Should Be Dead

Anyway! So I just finished watching the entire Orphan Black show.
OMG, my heart is full!!! Wowee - well done.
good parts - amazing plot, good closure. good characters, although one of them, the villain who does get a lot of screen time, is not very developed :/. good performances by the lead! I thought at first that her job could be do-able but then it expanded to cover more and she ended up nailing it, which was surprising, so I was impressed!
to be improved - was heavy for longer periods of time then i was ready for lol - like if youre gonna be heavy, hopefully you lighten it up periodically! or else its just exhausting to watch, forever! that’s why i think the first season .. and i guess the last one were the best, because they had a better balance.
personally, i really like shows and movies that are really complex, and are good thinkers, are like artistically crafted, explore themes and have a certain amount of feelings lol. oh man, this had a nice amount of feelings! not too much that it would kill me i dont think lol, but enough to move me ah! complex themes poignently and like, artistically explored!, of like, what it means to be family, identity, origins/growth. would be good to watch if you like medical stuff and science and crime/mystery. groovy.
*spoilers below*
omggggg. yeah but if i wasnt paying attention/didnt want a show where i had to pay attention to get it lol, i don’t think id’ve like this show heh. luckily its what i wanted this time. but the good thing is it wasnt asss complicated as like, game of thrones, which i am paying attention, and yet, i still like, don’t really get it..that, for me, would be too hard of a show to watch, like i just wouldn’t want to put that much effort into enjoying entertainment . but it required enough paying attention for me to consider it “a thinker”, to keep you on your toes to keep up with it while youre watching, which was nice.
performance - she nailed sarah, helena and krystal i think lol, which is surprising because those girls are so different-like the most different ! thats what impressed me lol. but i feel like she was a bit uncomfortable at least for a while in the other roles. fun to watch her in all those roles though.
my fav was ..well like i wanna be sarah i think shes the coolest and prettiest heh.. but i actuallyy.. appreciate helena the most. what character development lol, and she has such a distinct sense of humor! I love her because fortunately or unfortunately, she reminds me of myself, like kind of a hot mess, but I admire her like, fiercee loyalty and protectiveness, her humor, - its so, like things just come right off the top of her head, out of no where! and its kind of severe but genuine and matter of fact. brilliant heh xD. she has no reservations and doesnt really care like what people think of her? and she has soo many specific mannerisms, more than the other girls i think, -so expressive! and [a] much more distinct gestures and way of carrying herself in every little scene shes in! even her eye movements/eye shiftiness and the particular way she eats, with slow, inquisitive hand movements inspecting food at first, then clumsily stuffing her mouth lol, then letting it all fall from her mouth to her lap LOL. i like how she has many parts - so buff but also has a really vulnerable and earnest part too. i see it in her sisters but in a different or even maybe less extreme way. and you can really see a connection or see the chemistry/relationship between her and sarah, i reallyy enjoy their scenes together. which is incredible that they can articulate that, even when the actress did the two parts separately, not in the same shot at the same time ! felix was great, esp for comic releif, and i loved how his artistic things kind of tied the story together in the end.
my other fav sister was actually beth too.. even though you didnt see much of her, i saw a lot of me in her too ...a lot of me in a lot of them .. i just wanna be tatiana maslany lols..
nice name for the girl, Kira. perfect. i really like how her mom is usually really tough and cranky but shes soo soft with her daughter. like shes a criminal, then when she faked her death and saw her daughter come to the funeral and thought her daughter might think shes dead, she instantly dropped tears! cute relationship.
yeah they did good on showing some peoples’ relationships , like i also really liked allison and donnys relationship in the later seasons! quirky and fussy.
i also really liked how they were consistent in the girls being twins - even though they ended up all having their own lives and ways of being, you can see how genetically or whatever, they all did have the same character traits, which just manifested in different ways towardss different things in all of them!
the opening song kind of creeps me out, and is almost way more sci-fi -y than the show is, but i guess i get it - i meann the actual show doesnt seem that trippy, but the way that song and visual makes me feel is kinda how that show makes me feel . - that was the other thing, like ...idk if i just got used to it or the kinds of episodes changed, but for a while, for like the first couple? seasons, the show kind of made me feel uneasy and like paranoid a lot of the time lol but for some reason as you can see i couldnt stop watching the next and next episode lol.
^ wow im a talker huh?! well i just have a lot of thoughtss lols!
