Nothing like a cold winter day to start scavenging, sneaking around, digging in the snow for anything, and near the road of the forest, you saw something that was shining, making you crawl over and your smile grew as you picked it up.
‘Silver bottle cap! Score!’ You grinned and snatched up the object from the snow, pocketing it with other shiny and odd pieces you collected. Such as strong, wires, lei, marbles, bottle caps, you even found a knife that hangs up on your wall. Patting your pocket happily, the crunch of the snow filled your ears as you made your way deep in the forest.
As dangerous as straying from the path may be, and as worthless as the things you collect, you can’t help but get fascinated by these shiny objects and even the slightest thing that glistens and shines can distract you for hours on end.
‘Nothing but sticks and rocks,’ You sighed in disappointment as there was nothing else to find, but out of the corner of your eye, you saw a thing glowing from the sun, making you smile and slide over to pick it up. Inspecting it in all directions, you gasped as you realized who it belonged to, making you look up and stare into the deep woods.
You had to return it.

“I’ll be out Angie, I won’t be gone for too long. Take care of the house,” The voice of Donna Beneviento echoed through the dining room as Angie nodded and waved goodbye.
“If you find a new friend, tell me! I love making new friends!” Angie giggled maniacally, and ran off to who knows where. Donna smiled, pulling down her veil, and walked down the path that leads into the forest.
Her daily walks were nothing but distractions, or focus on other things than her headaches she gets because of her mutations, plus it’s nice to feel the fresh air. However it all ended when Donna noticed something to the side of the path she was on.
Donna stopped, turning her head to see what made the noise, and spotted a strange figure going in the woods, away from her. Instincts tell her that it might’ve been Heisenberg being a trash raccoon, or a villager being lost in the woods, or an animal, but curiosity got the better of Donna, so she decided to follow. The thing was gone, but Donna had the tracks to follow, which didn’t look like a footprint, it looked like whatever it was was dragging itself so she couldn’t make it out.
Moving further into the woods, Donna stopped at a tree, where there were no more tracks and no indication that the thing was nearby. Seeing no one around, Donna sighed softly as she realized what she saw was probably a little squirrel. She turned back to walk back home, but she stopped as soon as she saw a (E/C) eye staring at her and a you holding a big smile.
The only odd thing? You were upside down, hanging on a tree branch.
“Hey there,” You smiled, upside down and looking to at Donna, who may had her veil on, she could feel the two of you having eye contact. She gasped, taking a step back. Here you both were, having your body weigh down the branch, you loosely let your arms hang and wrapped your legs around the branch.
“I have seen you around here, however you’re never without your emotional support doll, Angie was it? Lovely name for such a chaotic gremlin,” You told her very casually, not even caring about how close you are to her. Donna was very confused. Who are you? How’d you know about Angie’s name? Where did you come from? Are you from the village? How are you so pretty-?
“Anyways,” Your hand went into your pocket to get something out, which gave Donna some time to take in your appearance. Your hair was very messy, with some leaves and dirt all over. And your clothes, they were unusual for the cold season. A simple white long sleeved shirt with a metal belt around your very nice waist. Brown pants with calf high boots. But what caught Donna’s attention was your eyepatch on your left eye.
“You dropped this during your daily walks. It looks expensive too, too shiny for me to ignore,” You interrupted her thoughts as you showed her a spool with golden thread wrapped around it, a little dirty but still intact. You reached over to grab Donna’s hand, but she flinched and took a step back, making you stop and look at her with a apologetic smile.
“I won’t hurt ya, I want to return a lost item,” You reach your hand out again, and the doll maker slowly gave you her hand, gently handing over the spool and pushed her hand back. Donna shivered at your hands, they were cold, calloused, and had many scared, yet she felt like she could melt at the single touch. Humming in satisfaction, you pulled yourself up and held onto the branch, climbing along and and slinging down to the ground.
“Well then,” You started “I better go off then, and I must say, seeing you this close is absolutely extraordinary,” You smiled and put your hands behind your back, swinging back and forth and small pint tints on your cheeks.
“If you don’t mind me saying, I have been watching you for a while, and… you are really pretty with or without or veil,” You mumbled. That made Donna’s face heat up, never in her life she heard those words from anyone but her deceased mother and Alcina. You gave her one last smile and before waving off.
“Goodbye my lady,” You said and started to walk off, but out of instinct, Donna was upset. Why are you leaving? When you both just met, why are you going away? Before you could register what happened, you felt her cold hands grab yours. Hard and frantic, making you yelp slightly.
“Don’t leave,” She managed to say, but quickly reeled her hand back to her side as soon as she saw your confused face, embarrassed at what she said. Your smile returned and dig through your pocket and pulled out a silver button. You dropped it on the snow, and Donna was confused at what you’re doing.
“I like shiny things,” You shrugged “Maybe I’ll come around if I see more than one thing to add to my collection,” You gave her good ol’ finger guns and ran off, cloak flapping the the air and Donna watches your figure shrinking with distance, before disappearing in the horizon.
Pushing her veil to the side, her eyes wide and her place skin was turning bright pink. Her heart was beating faster than how it did for years, and her stomach if was filled with these twists and tumbles of emotions.
‘Oh Miranda…’ She thought, shaking anymore scenarios she made in her head and scolded herself for falling in love so quickly to a person she just met just a few seconds ago. With a huff, Donna turned and walked back onto the path that led to her home, but she looked back sometimes to see if you were there.
“Angie, I’m back,” Donna said as she opened the door and walked inside, feeling all bubbly and can’t wait to tell Angie what happened, as she always bottled up her emotions since forever, she’s not going to bottle up love.
“Donna! Donna! Look what I made!” Angie squealed and showed the doll maker her new toy, which was just a bunch of knives taped together. Angie’s smile flattened a little as she saw Donna be… out of it? It looks like she’s staring into space.
“Donna? You good? It looks like you saw a ghost,” Angie said and threw placed her toy aside, which her words got her friend back into reality and Donna gave her a flustered smile and leaned against the door.
“I met someone, they said I looked beautiful and…” Donna trailed off, just as Angie was pushing her to say more about this new friend. The realization hits Donna like a bus, and she groaned, holding her hands up to her face and sliding down against the door.
“And I forgot to ask for their name!!”
“Ha! Dummy,”
