Artist research, Don Van vilet or Captain beefheart
After talking with Sylvia and looking at my painting for my upcoming sculpture she mentioned don who I then looked up and saw that along with being an artists he was a sort of Jack of all traids ranging from singer to magician.
What I like about dons paintings is that even tho they are very strong shapes and black colors you can still tell what they are or what the image is supposed to be conveying, I feel like this could also be said for my painting I made in liquid latex as it looks like random blobs but it is actually an image
I liked how fast and yet effective the way don paints it looks effortless and random but works really well in my opinion.

In other news, I bought a original copy of Captain Beefheart’s Trout Mask Replica for $5 today. Beat up, but still incredible to find and now own! So that’s something.

Kicking off another review with one of my all time favorite albums, trout mask replica. An album know for it's inspiration and innovation in musical expression, and it's completely insane backstory. The mind behind this album is mostly credited to Don van Vilet or captain beefheart as he's called on the album, he ran his band like a cult for months, controlling sleep, eating habits, and practice schedules, as well as composing without any prior music theory knowledge. His voice is raspy and deep but sounds incredibly different on each track, with wonderfully played poly ryhtyms accompanying his lyrics perfectly (accept on the few spoken word tracks or instrumental tracks). The lyrics are generally bizzare and meaningless, and some doofuses will try to dissect the ramblings of the mad man, but in my opinion the best experience with this album is to sit back and laugh, it's an album having a laugh at itself, and while you can appreciate the album at a base level for it's genius in musical expression, don't be a freaking nerd about it and let people have fun. I can't rec this album to anyone, it doesn't sound great in all honesty, poly ryhtyms and multi octave vocals are uncommon for a reason, their bizzare, hard to play, and don't really appeal to our basic sense of what sounds good in music (temp, beat, chord progression). Regardless of if you want to analyze this album for its impact on music, or if you want a silly album to have fun with, it's here for you, and I hope you enjoy every single second of trout mask replica.

Captain Beefheart shares similar ideas as Art ensemble of Chicago and my idea of deconstructing sound. He does this in the context of musical structures however i want to apply this to sound in relation to visuals. I wish to deconstruct classical forms in the same way Captain Beefheart does in order to rearrange ones associations.
Captain Beefheart (don Van Vilet) is also one of my biggest inspiration in my own music and art.

NYFWM Recap: Krammer and Stoudt A/W 2019 @krammerstoudt #NYFWM
As part of New York Men’s Day, Krammer & Stoudt presented\ the Fall / Winter 2019 Collection, inspired by the iconoclastic figure of Don Van Vilet (Captain Beefheart), a cult hero of the California psychedelic/desert rock scene of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s. Krammer Stoudt Fall Winter 2019
Inspired by the iconoclastic figure of Don Van Vilet (Captain Beefheart), a cult hero of the California psychedelic/desert rock scene of the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Krammer & Stoudt proposes retro looks that surprisingly fits very well with the Millennials and Gen Z.
Oversized suit jackets with sharply pointed lapels, it is very easy to see style elements of the 1969-1974 rock & roll era. Thinking of Hotel California or Ventura Highway fame? You’re right. There is an emphasis on the culture of the Sunset Strip and the wide open spaces of Joshua Tree, CA.
Here’s a food for thought – the original wearers of this styles are still alive, albeit they are now on the sunset of their lives. For their children or even grandchildren see them in a new light makes you think that we have once again come full circle when it comes to fashion.

Good news: I survived school today!
I’m not saying that because it was a bad day—it was an average day, and my week was a good one overall. I say that because some attention-seeking brats decided to use TikTok, the greatest social media platform there is, to spread false rumors of nationwide school violence today in the aftermath of the horrendous Oxford, Michigan massacre. I guess the human race still needs to prove how senseless it can be. It blows my mind how someone could look upon such cold blooded slaughter and then capitalize on it by spreading useless, irrational fear capable of unsettling people young and old across the nation. We are already bombarded with an overload of subliminal fear-mongering in our day to day lives; we don’t need a new generation of coddled edgelords continuing the grift. If I’ve learned anything by watching the twenty-first century news cycle, it’s that
my university of choice is going to be overrun by this gang of frothy-mouthed militants
my hometown is going to be Hiroshima’ed by that warmongering country
my few hopes and dreams are going to be stolen by this capsized group and
my entire life is in the hands of that secret-but-not-secret cabal of all-powerful baby-slurping ‘liberals’
messages that only encourage the populous to withdraw, to mistrust others, to get a gun and keep it loaded. Make sure it’s military grade, too; and never keep it locked up—you never know when you’ll need it.
Luckily none of my peers felt that need today, as the school day went without disruption. I wore a discreet Safe As Milk pin on my shirt because the other thing weighing heavy on my mind was that today marks the eleventh year since Don Van Vliet—better known as Captain Beefheart—died. A quote of his hangs attached to my bedroom mirror—“The stars are matter; we’re matter; but it doesn’t matter.” Offbeat, yet eloquent. Maybe if we chose people like Beefheart over the fear-mongers in power, we’d be a better species.

I started working more of a beat into the music. It’s more human that way. You know I wrote 400 songs for this album?

Q: i heard you used to draw while you were performing onstage. A: why not? fuck them. what did they want to see me do? i wasn't going to let the audience interrupt me. one of the band members would be doing a long solo, and what was i going to do? stand there? i would get my stuff and begin drawing. i couldn't waste time.
