Major Chinese e-commerce sites have pulled Dolce & Gabbana products from their sites, following the luxury brands ‘racist’ advertisement campaign.
The Italian brand posted a video this week showing a Chinese model struggling to eat pasta and pizza with chopsticks.
The campaign has been labelled as ‘racist’ and ‘offensive’ by a number of Chinese celebrities such as Zhang Ziyi and Wang Junkai, as well as social media, for promoting unflattering stereotypes.

The backlash caused the fashion brand to cancel its upcoming fashion show in Shanghai.
The controversy grew when screenshots of a private conversation, with co-founder and designer Stefano Gabbana, used the smiling poo emoji when referring to China and appeared to say, “China Ignorant Dirty Smelling Mafia”.

The brand later apologised for these comments, however they claimed that the account had been hacked.
Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana released a video on Friday, apologising for their actions.
“We offer our sincerest apologies to Chinese people worldwide,” said Gabbana.
Dolce continued: “We hope our misunderstanding of Chinese culture can be forgiven.
“We’ve always been very crazy about China, we’ve visited it a lot. We’ve been to many cities. We love your culture.”

  Despite this, major Chinese retailers such as JD.com and Taobao pulled all Dolce & Gabbana products, along with smaller retailers Kaola and Secoo.
This isn’t the first time that Dolce & Gabbana have been the subject of controversy.
In April of last year they released a campaign which showcased poverty-stricken people in Beijing being photographed with D&G models.
As well as labelling a shoe in their Spring/Summer collection of 2016 as a “slave sandal”.

Twice a year people from all over the globe walk, fly, and/or sit and wait for Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana to deliver their collection for the season. No matter the notion of what we can’t expect, but what you can expect. What’s that? A ton of looks; I say “ton” because unlike most brands out there the Dolce & Gabbana show always come with 100 or more plus looks. I think I perhaps one time saw a collection from them with looks in the 90’s; still if you compare that to other brands who only produce lets say 40 looks a collection that is a ton. Dolce & Gabbana’s Fall 2017 menswear collection was titled “PRINCE“. Are they paying homage to the late icon or is it simply a collection based of a prince of some sort? If you view the collection you come across some familiar faces outside of just the modeling world, but with YouTube and Instagram influencers, but it wasn’t just a sprinkle of them. The entire line up was about 50/50 between signed models, and the lucky ones I mentioned before. I’ll never quite understand how these two craft up such extravagant looks each season all while keeping them different from the last. Perhaps, this is what makes Dolce & Gabbana; Dolce & Gabbana. Maybe the two men split the looks in half that way it’s not 112 looks on one guy. What’s also interesting to note is that the shows special guest people such as Luka Sabbat were able to pick out what they wanted to wear. Giving this new generation a new range of power. What is most appreciated for this brand is the reach they have. Dolce & Gabbana isn’t a brand that is stuck in one gear. No, they often switch as you can see from the images above. Looks can go from extremely upscale and tailored to extremely relaxed. How does one going from a silk robe with satin lapels to a patchwork puffer jeans with slides. Is this what keeps Dolce & Gabbana so fresh? The ability to target all audiences?
