Summer vacation ideas while there's still time: Here are 6 smart spots to consider
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s still plenty of time this summer to make topnotch travel getaway plans. Sure, a road trip to the mountains or a week at the beach is ideal for a well-deserved summer vacation — but if you’re looking for some suggestions that are an airplane away, read on. Fox News Digital spoke to several travel experts to find out how to pursue your wanderlust, whether it’s a solo trip, a couple’s escape, a friends’ getaway or a special family vacation.INTERNATIONAL DESTINATIONS YOU CAN TRAVEL TO THIS SUMMER FOR THE ULTIMATE VACATIONCheck out these six intriguing options, each with plenty to offer.Whether you want to explore your (or a friend’s or family member’s) Irish heritage, play golf or immerse yourself in the food and drink scene, the Emerald Isle is a place to consider. It offers a unique blend of bustling cities such as Dublin and Belfast, charming coastal cities like Cork and Galway, and rolling countryside towns throughout the spectacular island. Getting there is a cinch, as there are direct flights from Midwest and East Coast airports — making it easy for the young and the young at heart. TRAVELING TO PARIS? 6 THINGS TO DO ASIDE FROM WATCHING THE OLYMPICS While in Ireland, be sure to visit the Guinness Storehouse in Dublin, which offers a “brewery experience” while sharing tales of “Ireland’s famous beer” with tastings and a rooftop bar, according to its website; and consider a visit to the whiskey distilleries of Jameson, Teeling and Pearse Lyons. Afterward, consider the centrally located Grafton Hotel for a peaceful night’s rest. The summer months are considered the best time to travel to Ireland, according to Intrepid Travel, an agency based in Canada. While you might enjoy nice weather, summer is also peak season — so you can expect crowds at popular destinations. WORLD TRAVELERS GAVE UP EVERYTHING TO SEE 92 COUNTRIES AND COUNTING: ‘WHY NOT?’If you want to avoid the crowds, look into traveling during the “shoulder” season in autumn, according to Tourism Ireland.Another destination to consider as a summer escape is Catalina Island, which is about 50 miles off the coast of Los Angeles. It’s roughly an hour’s ferry ride. Offering something for almost every type of traveler, the versatile destination has fine dining and luxury hotels. Visitors can also camp within the island’s wild terrain.Other highlights are water activities like swimming, snorkeling, kayaking or paddleboarding.ARE YOU PLANNING A TRIP TO CALIFORNIA? HERE’S A GUIDE TO ATTRACTIONS TO ADD TO YOUR VISITWhile on land, consider touring the Wrigley Memorial and Botanic Gardens, plus savor the natural beauty of more than 100 hiking trails on the island. “Catalina Island provides a Mediterranean-style escape closer to the West Coast and is a good alternative to Capri, Italy,” said Christie Hudson, travel expert at Expedia in Seattle. “Both destinations offer breathtaking coastal views, clear waters ideal for snorkeling and a relaxed island atmosphere.”Yet the price difference is huge. FROM FLORIDA TO CALIFORNIA: THE MOST POPULAR VACATIONS IN AMERICA TO BOOK RIGHT NOWA flight from Austin, Texas, to Los Angeles is $310 compared to a flight from Austin to Naples, Italy — which averages $1,870, said Hudson.   If you dream of a splurge-worthy dream trip to Italy but don’t want to face the crowds this summer — consider an alternate Italian trip. Zicasso CEO Brian Tan, based in Mountain View, California, said that while Italy remains a high-demand destination for Zicasso travelers, the travel company is seeing a rise in slightly lesser-known regions, such as the Dolomites in northern Italy. DOG MOM SPENDS $900 TAKING HER PUP ON MONTH-LONG EUROPEAN VACATION ACROSS ITALY: ‘GREAT COMPANION’”It’s off-the-beaten path from the usual Rome/Florence/Venice crowds, has cooler temperatures, amazing mountain vistas, lush valleys, memorable drives, and charming towns, including Cortina D’Ampezzo, host of the 2026 Winter Olympic Games,” said Tan. Furthermore, a region like the Dolomites can be paired easily with traditionally popular major gateway cities like Rome, he said. Copenhagen is likely the most visited city in Denmark. This Scandinavian country offers endless opportunities for culture, history and foodie experiences, plus coastal benefits. “Denmark is a surprisingly good place for a beach holiday in peak summer, with over 4,500 miles of coastline and uncrowded, white, sandy beaches,” said Daniel Burnham, senior flight expert with Going.com. “Within the past 10 days we’ve seen nonstop fares to Copenhagen from $375 nonstop out of Boston, New York, Miami, Chicago, Atlanta and Los Angeles for travel from July-November 2024,” he also said.  TRAVELING INTERNATIONALLY? IT COULD BE ILLEGAL TO BRING ALONG THESE MEDICATIONS, ACCORDING TO A PHARMACISTIn addition, a Denmark trip can be a launching point for seeing other European countries,c such as Finland, Norway, Sweden or the United Kingdom. If you’re a Caribbean enthusiast but don’t want the same “been there, done that” island experience, it might be time to consider Saint Vincent — where the “Pirates of the Caribbean” was filmed. “There’s a new Sandals there now, and it’s a sweet property,” said Kelley Connor, a travel adviser with AAA Club Alliance in Marlton, New Jersey. For more Lifestyle articles, visit www.foxnews.com/lifestyle”It’s the first all-inclusive [offering] on the island, located on 50 lush acres with a beautiful beach and surrounded by mountains and rainforest.”Saint Vincent is south of St. Lucia in the Eastern Caribbean. “Right now, it’s pure and undisturbed, providing a relaxing vacation that offers the best of all beach vacations without the hordes of tourists,” Connor said. “The rainforest is filled with tropical birds and cascading waterfalls, and the snorkeling and scuba diving is sublime, due to the exotic beauty beneath the quiet turquoise waters.”Gulf Shores, Alabama is gaining popularity among travelers who are seeking a blend of pristine beaches, outdoor activities and southern hospitality, according to Booking.com information shared with Fox News Digital. CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR LIFESTYLE NEWSLETTERIt’s a quintessential beach escape — with 32 miles of white, sandy beaches perfect for swimming, sunbathing and water sports. Be sure to make time for Gulf State Park, a must-visit for nature enthusiasts — plus it offers kayaking, fishing and hiking. Also, a dolphin cruise showcases the region’s scenic beauty of the Gulf while offering the chance to spot these adorable mammals. This destination is very family-friendly and ideal for a multi-generational trip.

Can I request a Tom x Reader where they take a mini vacation somewhere really secluded and they’re so happy to be finally spending time with eachother and they’re both just being super domestic and sweet.
Thank you! 🤍
Thank you my love! This prompt is giving me life istg, sweet and domestic Tom is my jam <3 I hope you like it (also am I basically writing what my dream holiday is? it's definitely possible)
Tag List : @mainlynonsense @cakesarecute @jinxqsu  @naps-and-lemons  @riddles-wifey (send me a message if you'd want to be added to the tag list!)
We are Mosaics
Tom turns to look at you and you recognise the determined glint in his eye and the set line of his lips which lets you know that a plan is forming and he won’t be dissuaded easily. “The Malfoy’s have a cottage in the Dolomites. I’ll talk to Abraxas.” He says it with such finality that you’re almost surprised before you remember that this is Tom. Tom who’s had his Slytherin cohort eating out of the palm of his hand for years, Tom who had marriage offers from a few of the lesser-known pureblood families, Tom who puts the fear of God into the hearts of most men. Of course, Abraxas would give him his family cottage.
You’re sitting on your sofa in the small flat you’ve rented above Flourish and Blotts glaring at the letter that sits innocently on the coffee table in front of you when Tom apparates through your wards. Your mood, which has been growing increasingly dark with the setting sun lifts somewhat when you see him. His jacket folded neatly over his arm and his white shirt slightly rumpled from the day, his hair, which he styles with care every morning is falling in soft waves across his forehead. In short, he looks like every one of your daydreams and you’re filled with a contented sort of triumph that it’s you who he comes home to most evenings. Your flat is small and certainly not big enough for you both to live comfortably, but he spends more time here than he does at his own, equally poky, abode.
His gaze flickers over the letter on the coffee table and you can see him putting the pieces together. “Bad news, I take it?” He asks in a slightly cautious tone that tells you he’s waiting for your imminent breakdown. You nod and sigh as you push yourself up from where you’ve been sulking for most of the afternoon. You gravitate towards him like a moth to a flame, the same way you always do, the same way you always have, and nestle yourself against him, allowing yourself to feel comforted and protected by the feeling of his arms around you.
“I just don’t understand why no one will give me a chance. I had the best marks in Arithmancy in the year,” You grumble into his chest. “Did you hear that Pearson got that Potions Mastery? He got an A in his NEWTS, Tom. Why does he get to do a Mastery and all I get is rejection letters?” You sigh because you know the answer. It’s the same reason that Tom wasn’t offered any of the prodigious jobs at the Ministry despite being the most talented wizard you’ve ever met with a resume that proves it. Wizarding society might be more progressive than the muggle world in some ways, but in the ways that matter to you and Tom, it was still stuck in the Middle Ages.
Eventually, you disentangle yourself from him and you spend the rest of the evening curled up on the sofa with him, reading and chatting idly about the stranger aspects of your respective magical theory texts. “Did you know about the coven in the Dolomites from the 1450s?” He asks, eyes trained on the page in front of him.
“Mmm, they’re the first known herders of thestrals, weren’t they?” He nods and you smile softly, “I’ve always wanted to visit there, you know? Ever since we learnt about thestrals in fourth year.”
You don’t think anything of it but Tom turns to look at you and you recognise the determined glint in his eye and the set line of his lips which lets you know that a plan is forming and he won’t be dissuaded easily.
“The perks of having rich friends, I suppose,” You say with a small laugh and the smile he gives you in return is indulgent.
***
When Tom had first told you about Abraxas’ family cottage, you had imagined that your definition of a cottage and the Malfoy’s would be vastly different. You’d gone with Tom to one of the Malfoy Christmas parties once and had almost cried at the luxury and decadence. You’re pleasantly surprised though to find that the cottage is exactly as you’d hoped it would be: sturdy white stone, lattice windows, and a multitude of wild mountain flowers that make the place look like a fae dwelling. “This is gorgeous,” You murmur as you wander through the garden, letting the warm summer mountain air fill your lungs. “I never would have thought that the Malfoy’s would own somewhere quite so homely.” Behind you, Tom laughs softly.
“I think there’s a distant cousin who fancied herself a Marie Antoinette figure,” He says, stepping closer to you and resting his chin on the top of your head. “Are you happy?” He asks and you hum in response, bringing your arms up behind you to card through his hair. You twist around pull him closer and his hands drop to your waist as he kisses you.
You spend most of the rest of the day exploring the paths and trails close to the cottage whilst Tom sets up the wards. The worries and stresses of London seem so far away and you relish in the slight breeze against your bare arms and the feeling of long grass and wildflowers against your legs.
You think back to your childhood, to the holidays spent in English seaside resorts with your parents; when the war broke out, the holidays stopped. Your father disappeared into a trench somewhere and your mother had taken you back to her parents home and left the muggle world for good but she was never quite the same after. Hogwarts and the wizarding world, in general, offered you an escape. A home away from the sorrow of watching your family drift and sink into unspoken grief and sadness. You’d found Tom somewhere along the way, both of you finding some kind of solace and familiarity in each other. A tentative friendship had formed that had turned to a tentative romance.
You wonder sometimes, why he sticks around. Unlike the boys he surrounded himself at school with, you can’t offer him money or power or glory. You’ve had to fight for every opportunity given to you, just the same as him, and it’s still not enough. In your more anxious moments, you think about his future and your uncertainty over where you fit into it. Now, under the clear Italian skies, you think that maybe the answer is obvious: you fit together like pieces of a mosaic. Each of your broken and jagged edges finding a home next to his.
***
“You’re aware that you’re a witch, aren’t you?” Tom’s voice floats through the open doorway and you chuckle from where you’re standing on one of the kitchen workbenches. You glance over your shoulder and find him watching you with a mix of exasperation, confusion, and mild amusement. He walks over to you and stares at the pile of dough you’re kneading, his eyebrows knitting together. “I’ll get Abraxas to send one of his house-elves.”
You roll your eyes and shake your head fondly. Tom’s disdain for all things muggle has diminished since you’ve known him, or at least, he’s less likely to voice his opinions to you. “That’s not the point, making bread is meditative. Come on, here,” You gesture for him to take over and watch with poorly hidden amusement as he frowns and takes a step back. “You once made Peeves cry out of fear, Tom, you can’t honestly be intimidated by some flour and water.” You raise an eyebrow and try to smother your grin with an unimpressed expression. You’ve found that the easiest way of getting Tom to do anything is to suggest that he can’t.
As expected, he glowers and rolls his sleeves up. “I’m not intimidated, darling, I just don’t see the point in slaving away over something that could easily be accomplished with magic,” He says smoothly even as he approaches the dough and gingerly pokes it. This time, you don’t manage to hide your laughter and you cover his hands with yours and begin to guide him through the motions. A companionable silence falls upon the two of you and you relish the feeling of his chest against your back, his soft breathing in your ear, his hands moving under yours. Sunshine filters through the open window and you listen to the distant birdsong in quiet contentment.
Once the bread has baked, the two of you wander along the mountain trail that leads to a secluded lake. The water is crystal clear and the kind of icy blue that you’ve only seen in paintings. Tom leads you to a small jetty and conjures a pile of blankets and pillows that you quickly set about making a nest out of. You sit cross-legged, Tom’s head resting in your lap as he reads passages from the book he’s brought with him out loud to you. “According to legend, the Monti Pallidi used to be formed of dark looming rock face and the lakes were murky and black, but there was a princess from the moon who took refuge in the Dolomites and to ease her homesickness, the mountains remade themselves with pale stone and clear waters.”
“She must have been lonely, being so far away from home,” You murmur, carding a hand through his hair as you tilt your head to stare at the pale mountains that surround you. “You know, I sometimes think of you a bit like that, like you’re a moon and I’m a satellite in your orbit.” He hums softly, and you’re not sure if it's in agreement or contemplation. You shift slightly and reach for the food that you’ve packed: fresh fruit, cured meats, hard Italian cheese, a bottle of wine that you’d found in the cellars (no doubt worth more than Tom makes in a year), and of course, the bread you’d made earlier.
You tear off a couple of chunks of bread and pass one to Tom, who takes it and sniffs it delicately before he takes a small bit. You breathe a huff of laughter at his behaviour and he lazily reaches up to cuff the side of your head. “See, it’s good, isn’t it? This kind of thing is always better when you make it yourself,” He rolls his eyes but tears off another chunk, which you take to mean he is, in fact, enjoying it.
The afternoon fades into evening, and twilight descends upon the mountains. You rearrange yourselves so that your sat side by side, gazing up at the moon that is just becoming visible. “You know, I would do more than remake a mountain range if you asked.” Warmth settles deep in your bones despite the chill in the night air. Tom turns to watch you and you don’t bother hiding your smile. “I would remake the entire world for you.” You don’t doubt him either, Tom is a force of nature, always has been. He’s a visionary and you’re not always sure if that’s a good thing, but, years ago, he saw something in you and now he looks at you as though you are everything that he wants in the world.
You reach over and hold his hand, letting his touch ground you, “For now, this is enough.” You mean this moment, sitting here with him. You also mean the life you are slowly patching together, one mosaic tile at a time.

@batmansymbol tagged whoever wanted to do this, so here I am! Thank you :)
the decade is ending, what’s changed for you in these past ten years?
have you moved?
Yep! Kind of a lot actually.... I moved to southern Italy for one year at the end of high school to study and learn Italian. Then I moved back to my longtime home in NH with my parents. I moved out to MN for undergrad, which is where I still am.
have you graduated?
YES! Graduated high school (FINALLY) and am on my way to graduating college.
has your marital status changed?
Haha no
has your parental status changed?
absolutely not
has your hair color changed?
Not the color, but it has gotten so much longer since 2010! I had a short bob back then, and now its perhaps down to my lower back? Still trying to grow it out longer, though. Edwardian hairstyling, here I come!
has your job changed?
Yes, considering I didn’t have a job back in 2010. I’ve had sort of two jobs this decade, one under the table and one official doing office cataloging. Hopefully in my next decade I’ll get a job that’s actually interesting?
has your otp changed?
Yes, considering I wasn’t into fandom yet and probably had never hear of an OTP in 2010. I got into fandom and fanfic around 2013-2014 via Avatar: the Last Airbender for zutara fic, which I would still read but is no longer my main ship. I've had a lot of different OTPs over time (merthur merlin x arthur has been a constant), but more recently I tend to read wolfstar (remus x sirius), braime (jaime x brienne), and kanej (kaz x inej). I read things from all over the place, though, if I like the ship well enough and the writing is good. Currently I have 426 bookmarks across 52 fandoms on my AO3, which I make based on the criteria that it is a story I liked so much I would read again and the writing was high quality.
has your pet status changed?
Yes, At the beginning of the decade I had a cat named Percy, who sadly passed away at the age of 14 in 2013 from cancer. I got a new cat later that same year, Jelly Bean, who is still alive, living with my parents, and meowing at all times. I guess it doesn’t help that when she meows my family and I talk back to her. Adorable baby bean 10/10.
what new places did you visit?
So many! Lots of places in Italy during my time there, to name a few: Rome, Naples, Verona, Venice, Sicily, and the Dolomites. Also, I visited a lot of Baltic countries in 2014 on a family vacation. Within the US, I got to visit a bunch of new states I had never been to including California, Texas, Nevada, New Mexico, Minnesota, Ohio, and Iowa.
what is an accomplishment you are proud of?
I’m really not sure. I don’t feel like I’ve done anything really of note this decade other than passing through my teen years and coming out the other side still kicking. I guess I’ve learned to play the ukulele (poorly) and gotten better at drawing (decently) and got into college? I think overall this decade I’ve just done a lot of growing up and becoming a more functional person, which is not so much an accomplishment but it makes my life and the people around me’s lives better.
Anyways, thanks to batmansymbol for giving me this chance for reflection, I tag anyone else who wants to give this a try! It was really nice to look back on the decade thoughtfully just as we begin the next one, which I hope will be even better.

Italian Dolomites Ski Resorts – Other fun things to do in The Dolomites.
The Dolomites offer one of the most widely known winter sports – skiing. It provides perfect mountain ranges and scenic sites that gives skiers breathtaking experiences while they are skiing doe the hills and along the pine vegetation. However, with all this fun of skiing the snowy weather can be worse and might not favor any skiing activities and may result to the closer of the ski park. But, this should be a worry since there are many activities that you can do in Dolomites and other parts of Italy. With ski hostels in Dolomites and South Tyrol accommodation, you may find your vacation more fun filled even with skiing out of the table for sometimes.
Stay inside and enjoy some movies.
The Dolomites are a cold place, and if you can take part in skiing then it will be wise to stay in cozy and warm by the fire places in the hotels and resorts. This will help you in overtaking the bad weather outside. Luxury Hotel Dolomites Italy will offer you the perfect place to stay in and enjoy the amenities it has to offer. You will enjoy a lovely dinner and the site back put on your favorite movie or any other that you have not seen and enjoy it with friends and family.Thiswould be a really good gift to your body.
Snow shoeing
This is one of the best options for those who have no experience in skiing, it is a perfect way for these individuals to exercise and take part in outdoor activities in the Dolomites. To take part in snow shoeing all you need is to put on boots with things like tennis rackets underneath. This will displaces your weight over a large surface of the snow hence allowing to walk more firmly on the snow no matter its state. You can do all these from the Ski Hotels in Dolomites to anywherethroughout the ranges. This will allow you to go for hikes even if snow is still falling.
Snow Tubing
Yes, not everyone can ski and others might be in the process of recovering from a previous injury. Snow tubing may come in handy for such individuals. Through this everyone on vacation can enjoy nature and all that the Dolomite Ranges have to offer. All you need for this activity is to hold on to an inner tube and the slide down on the snow, something like sledding. Dolomites even have tubing parks specially designed for snow tubing, they are equipped with snow tubing lanes perfect for racing. What is interesting that having and exciting competition with friends and family.
Conclusion
You should not be pressured that skiing is the only activity that you can take part in when on a vacation in the Dolomites. You will be able to take advantage of the many other activities available. South Tyrol Hotels and Veneto Hotels offer the best environment where you can enjoy warmth away from the cold of the Dolomites. For a perfect vacation in the Dolomites and other major attractions in Italy, Indolomiti.com can be the perfect place for you.

CULINARY TOURS OF ITALY - BUON APPETITO
Ah Italy! The Roman ruins, Renaissance art, medieval villages and Venetian canals create visions so pleasing to your eyes that it’s easy to forget about your other senses. And while the cultural beauty, rustic traditions and genuine Italian hospitality always leave a good taste in your mouth, it’s the cuisine that truly seduces all who travel to Il Belpaese - the Beautiful Country.
From the tip of Sicily to the peaks of the Dolomites, Italy is one incredible feast, a smorgasbord of regional cuisines that defines its people and thrusts this savory country high into the world rankings of culinary arts. In fact, if you squint in the bright Italian sunlight, the flat canals of Venice appear like fettuccine, the Leaning Tower of Pisa resembles the leaning noodle of cannelloni, and the great Colosseum looks like, well, a giant pizza pie! Okay, those may be slight gastronomic exaggerations, but it is undeniable that few countries celebrate their food-and celebrate with food-as Italy.
Here food is simple, fresh and delicious: the three pillars of Italian cooking. Each morning village marketplaces pulse with locals buying the finest, freshest produce. Wooden stalls spill over with rosy tomatoes, giant eggplants and deep green zucchinis still wet with dew. The natural fragrance of wild mushrooms, basil, rosemary and sage saturate the air. These are the perfect ingredients that create the robust flavors of Italian foods we all know and love.
Travel agents concur that the best way to experience Italy’s cuisine is through a culinary tour. Culinary tours provide you with the unforgettable opportunity to cook with Italy’s top chefs, dine at exquisite restaurants, learn to shop “the Italian way” at outdoor food markets and generally immerse yourself into the tasty culture. You return home not only with amazing photographs, but also with skills to delight and dazzle your friends and family.
Delightful and dazzling are two words that often spring from diners’ lips after they swallow a scrumptious piece of gnocchi made around the Amalfi Coast. Protecting Italy’s western shores like a great stone lion, the Amalfi Coast is well known for its beautiful cliffs and breath
taking views over the Mediterranean. But as you’ll quickly learn, its cuisine soon will dominate the minds of millions. Lessons during this culinary tour focus on handmade pastas, savory sauces, fresh seafood and pizza. In between classes and sightseeing tours of local villages like Positano and Ravello, you’ll learn about the beauty of limoncello, a homemade liqueur made with locally grown lemons that’s the perfect aperitif on a warm, clear day on Italy’s western seaboard. Also numerous will be the many traditional cooking methods you learn during your stay, secrets handed down from generation to generation to you.
Cooking secrets are important to all Italians, but they’re sacred to Sicilians, whose recipes are as unique as the people themselves. A land of beauty, mystery and inescapable charm, Sicily caters to an exotic mix of bloodlines that ignites the flavors of its cuisine. Diving into divine dishes, you will learn about the subtle complexities of Sicilian cooking, focusing on pasta, fish and vegetables along with the culture, traditions, habits and customs from which the cuisine evolved. Your tour is highlighted with a trip to Catania, near fiery Mt. Etna, where the volcanic soil fuels a distinctive and celebrated vineyard.
World-class vineyards and olive groves grow out of the rich soil in Tuscany, where the beauty and fruitfulness of the landscape is clearly reflected in its cuisine. Your classes will reveal the nuances of the world’s finest olive oils and types of vinegar, as you prepare classic dishes such as ribollita and crostini, along with lesser-known but equally tasty castagnaccio. In Tuscany, the enthusiastic dedication to the art of cooking is wonderfully contagious.
Each region of this delicious country offers a unique overview of the family traditions and the cultures that shaped the way food is honored during its preparation, serving and enjoyment. Between gastronomic pursuits, you’ll visit vineyards and olive groves, local artisans and cheese makers, and meet gifted bakers and café owners. This is a personal introduction to la dolce vita — the good life. For the good life in Italy is one on a full stomach.
Contact a trusted travel agent today and start packing your favorite measuring cup for the ultimate in culinary adventures that will serve up Italy in as many courses as you can handle. Travel agents can connect several cooking tours, allowing you to learn about various styles and regions in one trip. They can add a culinary tour at the end of your already-planned Italian sightseeing vacation, like a dessert you will never forget. They can even include other ingredients, like a bicycle or sailing trip. However you want to see and taste Italy, your travel agent has the recipe right for you.

LESSONS LEARNED: THE CASUAL CONUNDRUM
by Joshua M
I am not a particularly creative person. My right-brain functions are sorely underdeveloped (nb.:  alas, the same could be said of my left-brain functions, but one thing at a time). I take comfort in structure, routine, pattern, and certainty. When the creative impulse does occasionally strike, my chosen profession, the practice of law, allows me to exorcise it within a set of parameters defined by the Civil Code, statute, and jurisprudence (or, for the common law attorneys, precedent).
My natural inclinations extend to my taste in clothing. In general, I focus on traditional, conservative menswear. I take comfort in the enduring success of the business suit, little changed over a century’s use. I enjoy the nuances of fabric, fit, silhouette, and proportion, and how subtle tweaks to each alter the impact of a particular garment. In short, with traditional, conservative menswear, I am able to express a smidge of personality within a defined set of parameters. While some men view the business suit as a straightjacket (or worse, as the frequent analogies between the necktie and the noose suggest), I enjoy the simplicity of the suit.
I have never, however, found much joy in my casual wardrobe.
In the winter, I am a paint-by-numbers dresser. I live in my trusty Barbour jacket, well-worn raw denim jeans, flannel shirts, Shetland sweaters, and field boots. I feel like I have an established, if rote, command of the situation.
Not so in spring and summer. Until recently, I was befuddled by warm-weather clothing: elasticated pants, tunics, shirts with funky collars, etc., fell well outside of my comfort zone. So, I did what every blue-blooded male does when he is outside of his comfort zone—I avoided the problem.
I don’t mean that I avoided clothes entirely. Rather that I approached my warm-weather wardrobe as though it were a “diet cool-weather” wardrobe. I dropped my Barbour jacket and Shetland sweaters, kept the well-worn raw denim jeans, exchanged my flannel shirts for lightweight chambray shirts and my field boots for Tyrolean shoes and leather sneakers, and hoped no one would mind.   For some time, I was content. However, a vacation to Europe last year exposed the flaws in my approach.
My trip started in Munich, where it was often cool and drizzly. In the evenings, I was glad that I had packed my trusty Barbour jacket. Further, as we hiked our way up to Neuschweinstein, that jacket fought the nip of the mountain air with ease.
We then wended our way south, and the weather became significantly warmer.  The first casualty was Trusty, which was stowed away after passing through the Dolomites.
Tumblr media
The second casualty was my long-sleeved chambray shirt, which was drenched in sweat by the time I carried our luggage to our hotel in Florence (perhaps I should have splurged on a hotel with an entrance that was not located at the top of two flights of stairs).
Tumblr media
The third casualty was my well-worn raw denim jeans, too heavy for even the minor hike to the Civita di Bagnoregio (fallen among the Etruscan ruins along with the jeans were my Tyrolean shoes).
Tumblr media
Worn down, desperate, and out of options, I succumbed to the uniform of my fellow countrymen traveling abroad—a t-shirt, Ralph Lauren shorts, and running shoes (nb.:  please, do not revoke my authorship privileges at the No Man blog for my sins). I even succumbed to wearing the Columbia PFG fishing shirts that I had packed as loungewear, never imagining I would have to appear in them before actual Italians.
In the months since, I have been haunted by certain pictures of the vacation—which are displayed with a degree of permanence in various picture frames in my living room. In each, I look sweaty, awful, or sweaty and awful. I compare the pictures of that vacation with the pictures from my wedding—again, displayed in my living room—where I am wearing a bespoke tuxedo and look about as good as I can without major elective surgery.
Tumblr media
I learned a valuable lesson from this experience. In my traditional, conservative menswear wardrobe, I have garments that I wear in the fall and winter, and garments that I wear in the spring and summer. I do not wear a cold-weather suit in July by dropping the jacket. Likewise, I cannot expect that my casual wardrobe, intended for the cooler months, will stay photogenic when I am hoofing it from Monterosso to Vernazza.
So I am forced to abandon the usual set parameters. I have embraced, among other items, easy pants (which, nomenclature notwithstanding, are notoriously “hard,” as Styleforum member Mr. Six noted [Ed. note:  to clarify, the “hard” here is not, in fact, a boner joke. I know because, wanting to keep the No Man blog a family publication, I asked. Being assured by the author that no prurient jokes are in any way implied here, I have let the Mr. Six comment stand, though accompanied by this note to insure that no readers are confused.]), which are the first elasticated trousers that I have worn since childhood, camp collar shirts, and a light-weight fishing jacket. And most importantly, I am enjoying these experimentations, my trepidations overmatched by the satisfaction of retiring the fishing shirts from public consumption.
Later this summer, I will be embarking on another transatlantic journey. This time, I will be prepared.

G - Grossest memory: This is the grossest memory I can think right now. So about a year ago I was a hostess in our subject association so I was making a party for our freshmen with others. When we were cleaning the afterparty one of the freshmen stayed behind to wait for her ride. She was... very drunk, pretty sure she doesn’t remember anything about it. So I was cleaning the floor and right after finishing it, she unloaded the content of her stomach right across the floor. Then one of other organizers doesn’t notice the vomit and slips on it... It was a mess. Then I had to grab some paper towels and try to take the vomit from the floor. There was a lot of it.

O - One wish: I just want to finish a book someday
P - Person you called last: My best friend
Q - Question you’re always asked: “How can you forget that?” That being practically anything

T - Time you woke up: 11

W - Worst habit: Forgetting everything. Like I have missed test and entrance exams because I have forgotten them... Though not sure if counted as bad habit when it’s because of ADD and I can’t really effect it :D
X - X-rays: Like many times (I’ve almost broken my hand and dislocated my shoulder...)
Y - Your favourite food: Oh no. This is even worse than the favorite song. Salmon-mango ceviche might be my favorite, but I also love carpaccio, blue mussel soup, gravlax, vietnamese chicken salad and how my father grills picanha and so many other foods.

I’ll tag @madmooninc, @el-norawrites, @ivettaviolet and @muznahina. These are personal questions and I understand very well if you don’t want to answer them, so don’t feel any pressure! :)

10 incredible nighttime adventures that take stargazing to new heights
Here’s how to combine extreme stargazing with an extra-special vacation in some of the world’s dark sky destinations.
Tumblr media
Night hike under a full moon in the Dolomites, Italy
There is no more majestic a sight than the 18 peaks of hiking mecca the Dolomites at dusk. Here in Italy’s northeast, the 200-year-old, family-run spa and resort Adler Dolomiti is holding moonlit hikes during the full moon of June 28, July 27 and August 27, 2018. Free to all guests, the hikes begin at 5 p.m. with a cable car ride to up to Seceda at 7,905 feet, where you’ll will see the golden glow of the setting sun on the Dolomites. The hike reaches Forcella de Sieles, which shines a fluorescent white under the light of the moon at just over 8,202 feet, and goes on to the lunar landscape of the Puez plateau. Moon-gazers, standby.

Take a 10-day horseback riding trip in the Atacama Desert, Chile
If you want to see stars that glow instead of twinkle, head up a seriously high mountain. So clear is the night sky at altitude that most of the world’s most advanced telescopes – such as the Very Large Telescope and ALMA – perch on mountains as tall as 16,400 feet in Chile’s Atacama Desert. The epic 10-day Atacama Horse Adventure travels from San Pedro de Atacama to Calama via salt flats, petroglyphs, and the mysterious Moon Valley. Prepare for plenty of sleeps under a star-studded sky.

Go kayaking at night at Acadia National Park, Maine, U.S.
Acadia National Park, on Mount Desert Island in Maine, is at the forefront of the dark sky movement. Its eastern side is darkest, which is why Bar Harbor is where Acadia Park Kayak Tours leads a 2.5-hour kayaking tour at night complete with a Celestron Sky Scout telescope, a laser pointer, and a chemical glow stick for seeing each other. If you’re lucky, you might even see bioluminescent light-producing microorganisms produce a silvery glow in the water around the kayaks. The annual Acadia Night Sky Festival is set for September 5-9, 2018.

Wilderness ski across Lapland, Finland and Norway
How about skiing through one of the last wilderness areas of Europe in search of stars and the Northern Lights? Departing from Kilpisjärvi, Finland each April, this six-night Lapland Wilderness Ski Expedition trip from AdventureByDesign travels across the Arctic tundra and overnights in wilderness log cabins where you’ll learn plenty of winter skills. It’s expertly led by Gareth Hutton, an experienced arctic adventurer and noted Northern Lights and landscape photographer.

Whitewater raft on the Salmon River, Idaho, U.S.
Just announced in December 2017, the new Central Idaho Dark Sky Reserve (which includes the Sawtooth National Recreation Area and the communities of Ketchum, Smiley Creek, Stanley, and Sun Valley) are all now subject to restrictions on light pollution. The third largest such reserve in the world, its 1,416-square-mile area is ideal for whitewater rafting trips on the Salmon River, though night sky addicts should also consider a twilight dinner trip.

Stand-up paddleboard in the moonlight, in Wales, U.K.
Though most of the U.K. is densely populated and consequently light polluted, Wales in the west is a huge exception. It’s home Snowdonia National Park, the Elan Valley and the Brecon Beacons National Park, all of them certified as Dark Sky Parks or Reserves (as well as many other stargazing locations). However, if moonlight is more your thing, then get yourself deep within Snowdonia in North Wales where Psyched Paddleboarding conduct Stand Up Paddleboard (SUP) trips across a lake.

Stargaze on the White Rim Trail, Canyonlands, Utah, U.S.
With endless miles of four-wheel-drive roads, Canyonlands National Park in Utah is a dream destination for mountain bikers after solitude. It’s also an International Dark Sky Park. By day, Holiday River Expeditions’ White Rim Trail Stargazing Trip will lead you around Canyonlands’ dramatic Island in the Sky above the Colorado and Green Rivers. By night, your playground will be the Milky Way, with a telescope also on hand for a close-up.

Ascend Aoraki Mount Cook, New Zealand
Here on the South Island of New Zealand, dark skies are a way of life. First created in the early 1980s, outdoor lighting controls reign at the Aoraki Mackenzie International Dark Sky Reserve, the world’s biggest. Experienced mountaineers could consider a six-day ascent of Mount Cook, New Zealand’s highest peak at 12,217 feet. For the rest of us there are plenty of organized astro-tourism activities in the area.

Find desert stars and solitude in the Lut desert, Iran
Iran is emerging as a major destination among bucket list-ticking travelers, but there’s nothing remotely populist about this expedition to Iran’s Lut desert (also called Dasht-e-Lut) from Secret Compass. A 14-day, 125-mile hike across an otherworldly landscape of star dunes, shifting sands and wind-hewn kaluts, this epic east to west journey goes close to the hottest recorded spot on the planet.

Hike, kayak, and snorkel in the world’s newest Dark Sky Park
The world’s newest Dark Sky Park, certified just last month, is the subtropical jungle-covered Iriomote-Ishigaki National Park, the first in Japan and only the second in Asia. An island of 157 square miles, it’s the last in a chain of Japan’s southerly Yaeyama Islands, which are much closer to Taiwan than mainland Japan. Home to an endemic firefly species that relies on natural darkness to survive, as well as the endangered Iriomote-yamaneko cat (there are only 100 left), this is a place for hiking, kayaking and snorkeling by day, and stargazing by night.

day four: places you want to visit
I love traveling. The feeling when you organize your itinerary, searching for hours for a perfect hotel deals, and saving up your annual money for a week worth of vacation. I love traveling.
I have this habit to go on traveling whenever life gives me its bitter part.
“When life gives you lemon, just go travel”
2020, up until this point, was weird enough for me. I’ve been thru so many things that I didn’t expect. I’ve met so many interesting people, I’ve chosen so many questionable decision that I don’t know whether to cherish or regret. To sum up everything; I desperately need some vacation.
But, who are we to decide? Covid-19 came early this year (March in Indonesia) and changed the way we live ever since. No more going out maskless, no more outdoor activities that involved a bunch of crowds, and no more traveling. It sucks, but we gotta live it (In the meantime please always obey the health protocol wherever you are).
Nevertheless, we’re not banned from making a list about all the places we want to visit, right? So here’s mine:
1. New York City
Tumblr media
I’ve been obsessing about NYC since I fell in love with all the series that taken place in NYC (CSI:NY to be exact, and maybe Castle). Despite people said that New York is not that pretty, and living in NYC is hell (talked about the living cost and how gross their subway really is), I still find NYC appealing, and I’m dying to visit NYC sometime in the future.
I don’t care if it just strolling around Central Park, going all touristry to Time Square or having a nice brunch at Baltazar, I would love to visit NYC someday.
2. Italy
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Man, oh man, Italy is so pretty. If Europe was a family, Italy definitely that one cousin who’s got it all; pretty, good at cooking, both warm and cool, and speaks beautiful language (is it just me or italian sounds beautiful in my ears?). Beautiful city landscape, amazing beaches, magnificent mountain&valley, abundant historical sites, fashion mecca, delicious foods all around, what’s not to like?
My favorites is Cinque Terre and Dolomites. Someday, someday.........
3. Iceland
Tumblr media
Who doesn’t like Scandinavian countries? As a person who lives in a tropical country all my life, an opportunity to visit colder country is always a blessed. Why Iceland? I always feel like Iceland is some kind of magical icy land where unicorns really do exist (omg what am in talking about). I mean, Iceland is mysterious. So many nature wonders with so little people around, isn’t it sounds like a perfect getaway place?
The blue lagoon, Hornstrandir, Reynisfjara beach, Strokkur geyser, and of course, The northern lights.
4. Lapland, Finland
Tumblr media
Okay, another scandinavian, this is the last I promise. Been called as The Santa Claus Village, Lapland is as magical as it’s given nickname. If you want to experience the true winter activities, you should come to Lapland indeed. i once watched a vlog about lapland and since then, it’s officially going on my list.
Sleeping in an igloo-like cottage, watching aurora is the most anticipated activity here.
5. Greece
Tumblr media
Santorini, that’s what I’m talking about. Been on my list for quite some time now, it’s like love at the first sight thing. The first time I heard about Santorini, fell in love immediately. I mean, how can’t I? It’s so serene and beautiful! I know greece has so many interesting places (and historical too, I’d like to visit parthenon) but Santorini is on my top list.
