🦈 Daily Shark Fact: 🦈

The Taiwan Spurdog was accidentally discovered in a Taiwanese fish market by two scientists. This endangered shark is endemic to China, Taiwan, and South Korea. There is not much known about its behavior as it lives in depths up to 2600ft near the continental shelf. They are assumed to be very shy, as there is no record of divers having ever seen the Spurdog during explorations.

Every day I think about the harrison dogfish because it’s other name that it’s more commonly known by is the dumb gulper shark and just- just look at him

Hes so good and silly looking. As general knowledge, they’re found near Australia and New Zealand, they’re unfortunately endangered, and they’re slightly longer than a guitar or traffic cone.

A ceramic salmon like fish with legs, big ol’ eyes, and mouth agape. Its green body fades out to a white belly, broken up by pink cheeks and a thick pink stripe running down its lateral line. Vertical black stripes run down its body, and gold lustre linework accents its pupils, stripes, and individual scales.

if a shark had a synonymous common name ‘common shark’, what species would it be?

unsure about species, that's a bit too narrow so it would depend on location way too much

but as a whole i'd say either catsharks or dogfish !!!

the catshark family (scyliorhinidae) has the most species out of all sharks, with at least 150, which is roughly 30% !!

and dogfish (squalidae) are very widely distributed to the point i've seen them described in a couple textbooks as 'the shark every anatomy student knows' lmao so i think they are great contenders
