when walking anywhere with his son, jun has to stop every five minutes so that chao can pet a dog or talk to a bird that’s trotting along the sidewalk

chao is very good at swimming and jun takes him to his swimming lesson every week without fail

jihoon treats his daughter like an equal, and bc of this they have a very special bond

jihoon and sun often discuss and exchange opinions on various subjects like adults and many people are impressed by how articulate and eloquent the young lady is

but she’s also a mischievous little lady and often pulls pranks on her parents or uncles,

hiding from them and scaring them when she thinks they aren’t looking and then running away with the loudest most adorable giggle leaving her toothless mouth

of course everyone just pretends they get scared but she doesn’t know that and thinks it’s the most hilarious thing

youngsun has a very strong bond with uncle mingyu and uncle seungkwan

the three of them often pairing up to scare jihoon while he’s working on something or spaced out in his own world

sometimes jihoon gives in and plays harry potter with his daughter, pretending to have dueling battles in the kitchen with chopsticks as wands

jihoon would be on the floor yelling out VINGARDIUM LEVIOSAAAAA

and you would be sat in the living room reading, laughing to yourself

Are You Ready For ‘Kennel Cough’?

I am sure we have all heard the term ‘kennel cough’. It has become a commonly known vernacular that encompasses an infectious condition dogs most commonly get from other pups when exposed at places such as boarding, daycare, dog parks, or grooming. Even though the phrase is commonly used, it is unlikely that most people understand the full scope of the disease process. A disease process that is multifaceted, with multiple pathogens, and is more appropriately labeled Canine Infectious Respiratory Disease Complex (CIRDC).

We as pet owner are on the move! Which means our canines are either coming with us to meet and greet others, they could be spending the day playing with other pups at daycare, or they could be hanging out for the weekend with their friends at boarding. This means that we are now exposing our pets to a larger population of potential risks. This shouldn’t deter, but we should be aware and educated on what this could mean.

For the most part, ‘kennel cough’ is a mild infection that many pups can overcome, but what is usually unknown is, what is causing this?!? There are NUMEROUS pathogens that are responsible for the harsh, non-productive cough that can cause fever, inappetence, and a general feeling of malaise. Viruses, including Canine Influenza (H3N2, H3N8), Distemper, Parainfluenza, AND Bacteria, including Bordetella, Mycoplasma, are just some of the culprits that can damage the lining and cells of the respiratory tract. These pathogens (one pathogen or multiple different) can infect and replicate in the alveoli/trachea/bronchi and lead to potential inflammatory reactions and even pneumonia.

We have been fortunate in recent years to not have a known nationwide outbreak of respiratory pathogens, but it appears there is an emergence of Canine Influenza in the Atlanta Metro area that we need to take note of. We at PHAH want to ensure the best action plan for our patients and clients.

With the emergence of Canine Influenza popping up around the city, we are urging our clients to update their dog’s vaccine for the respiratory diseases we can protect against, or at least limit the severity of. These vaccines include intranasal or injectable Bordetella, the DHLPP injection, and the Canine Influenza injection (H3N2, H3N8). We also ask that you consider your pet’s exposure risks and your pet’s personal risk factors based on previously diagnosed ailments. If appropriate, consider limiting exposure when and where necessary.

At Fuqua’s mixed-use Reynoldstown hub, pet-care center is claiming third largest space

Local startup is expected to open at Beltline-adjacent Madison Yards this summer

A significant portion of Fuqua Development’s rising Madison Yards, as business leaders joke, is going to the dogs.

Founded by Grant Park resident Ryan Deal, a startup concept called Lucky and Lady has ambitions of “transforming away-from-home pet care,” beginning with a flagship 6,000-square-foot facility—the massive Reynoldstown build’s third largest commercial space, officials announced this week.

Staffed around the clock, the indoor pet boarding, daycare, grooming, and washing enterprise is set to open late this summer.

“Four years of research and consultation with an array of architectural and mechanical engineers, environmental experts, and clinical specialists in animal behavior have guided every aspect of the [design],” notes a press announcement.

The advent of cutting-edge Fido care illustrates again how the development hot zone that is Memorial Drive isn’t the bedraggled industrial corridor it used to be.

In term’s of sheer size, Fuqua’s latest intown venture takes the cake. It’s transforming the longtime home of Leggett & Platt manufacturing, extending from Memorial Drive to Interstate 20, along Bill Kennedy Way and the planned Beltline corridor.

In the works for several years, Madison Yards will include some 550 residences, 80,000 square feet of loft office space, 160,000 square feet of retail, and plenty of parking.

The roughly $250 million development will be anchored by a Publix and AMC Theatre, not the formerly expected Sprouts and CineBistro. Expect a mix of townhomes and apartments.

More recent signings include Hooters offshoot “Hoots,” Marietta-based Taqueria Tsunami, Birmingham popsicle purveyor Steel City Pops, and Marlow’s Tavern, among other eateries and retailers.

Regarding the area’s Beltline segment, construction has mostly finished on the Eastside Trail’s extension through Reynoldstown. But the project remains closed as Beltline officials await permits from the Georgia Department of Transportation to install pedestrian improvements at Memorial Drive.

Those will include a pedestrian plaza where the trail meets the road, as well as beef-up crosswalks, traffic signals, and stormwater systems.

Beltline officials have said that partial trail openings are a possibility, weather permitting.

Please share a little bit about yourself and your business. Dogaholics has been in the Lakeview neighborhood for 10 years! Originally with retail only, then we expanded into services and now have a thriving doggy service center where 100 dogs come to play every day with their canine friends and our caring team. We also offer boarding, daycare, grooming. 

What sets your business apart from others? We communicate A LOT with our customers about how their dog is doing. All team members from handlers, transporters and front desk team can speak directly with all our pet parents. Whether it's a minor scuff, bad case of the poops or a new behavioral issue we're noticing, we always try and keep our clients informed. What is your favorite thing about operating a small business in West Lakeview? I absolutely LOVE our "two-legged" customers. They are down to earth, caring, hard working, smart, outgoing people and we enjoy caring for their pets while they are busy living life! 

What advice would you give to someone who is thinking about opening their own small business? I tend to dose out business advice all the time as I run a business consulting company as well for the pet industry called Pet Boss Nation...so my #1 advice...especially if it's a brick and mortar is location, location, location.

Why should people support small businesses like yours? We give back a lot to our community, whether it's through charitable causes, beautification projects, & community events. To continue to keep doing that, we need a community of residents around us who want to keep us here! When you support a small business, you support dreams of the people who are in that business. Your dollars make a bigger impact!

Is there anything else you'd like readers to know about you or your business? We have one of the largest outdoor play parks for dog daycares in the city of Chicago. We do our best to be good neighbors and love that our community allows us to have this outdoor oasis for dogs of Lakeview to run around and play!
