Medications: The doctor may talk to you about possible medications, including how to obtain a prescription through telehealth online in Australia.
Lifestyle Changes: Practicing stress management, proper sleep hygiene, and healthy nutrition can be effective weapons for a solid mental health care plan.
Support Services: The mental health professional may also advise you on some of the support services, such as community programs or peer support groups.

Financial Assistance: A Medicare card is required to access rebates for therapy sessions, and such therapy may become less costly. With cheap GP consultations and bulk billed telehealth services, mental health care becomes affordable.
Holistic Approach: A Mental Health Care Plan cares for you as a whole and to the root of the symptoms. Telehealth can be really useful in scheduling appointments, keeping you in contact with your doctor, and thus maintaining a balanced approach toward your mental health.
Improved Communication: Your treatment plan encourages open communication on your side and that of your healthcare providers, where both of you will be on the same page as you work towards finding the right course for your health. Virtual care and remote medical services have cut across into making this communication run efficiently.
Taking That First Step
It's strength, not weakness, to take the first step by seeking help for the care of your mental health. Contact your Online Doctor Australia or healthcare provider through telehealth and see if a Mental Health Care Plan is suitable for you. Your doctor will guide you through the whole process, ensuring that you receive every bit of support and tools needed for your mental health journey-all accessible online .
Beyond the Plan
Remember, the plan is an idea to start with, not a script you are going to do every time. As your needs change, so should your plan. Celebrate your successes, no matter how big or small they seem, and keep prioritizing your mental health. This can all be managed with telehealth options such as Mental Health Online Consultation Australia and Prescription Online Australia services.
Let's break the stigma of mental health care. Share your story, encourage others to seek help, and know that with the right support-including telehealth and bulk-billed consultations-a Mental Health Care Plan can be that key to unlock the doors to emotional resilience.

Are Online Medical Certificates Accepted? We Investigate
Medical certificates are an important part of navigating health impacts on work, study, travel and access to services. But with telehealth booming during the pandemic, are online video consultations sufficient for medical certification needs?
In this extensive guide, we dive into the validity of online medical certificates in Australia — examining acceptance by employers, insurers, government agencies and beyond.
What Are Online Medical Certificates?
Thanks to telehealth services, Australians can now obtain medical certificates via online consultations, without attending a doctor’s office in-person.
You have a video or phone appointment, your doctor assesses your condition remotely, and issues a certificate digitally. Some key online medical certificate types include:
Sick leave notes for missing work
Return to work certificates outlining capacity
Centrelink medical reports for welfare claims
Fit to fly and travel certificates
Prescription authorities for subsidised medication
While convenient, are these digital certificates seen as legitimate? Here we look at the recognition status across different sectors.
Employer Acceptance of Online Medical Certificates
For sick leave, online certificates are generally accepted by most Australian employers in public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Key factors making them valid include:
– Issued during a live telehealth consultation by an Australian-registered GP following assessment.
– Contains all required details — doctor/patient identification, dates of leave, nature of condition etc.
– Displays the doctor’s digital signature and provider number.
– Sent securely via email or patient’s online record platform.
However, employers retain discretion rights on medical certificate acceptance. For monitoring, some workplaces may still require in-person assessments after a certain time period or number of certificate instances.
The Fair Work Ombudsman confirms online certificates carry the same evidentiary weight for sick leave. But employers can follow up with the doctor if authenticity is doubted.
Insurance Company Acceptance
For total permanent disability or income protection claims, most major Australian insurers also accept telehealth medical certificates issued by qualified GPs or treating specialists.
The same validity criteria apply — live consultation, verifiable details, secure digital issue and signatures.
However, insurers generally reserve rights to request in-person medical examinations or assessments from approved practitioners to substantiate claims. So online coverage may be limited to initial certificates.
Government Agency Acceptance
Centrelink states online medical reports from telehealth consultations can be submitted to support claims for Disability Support Pension, Sickness Allowance and Mobility Allowance.
Issuing practitioners must be approved Centrelink assessors — usually your regular GP initially. Reports follow a standard format outlined by Services Australia.
For subsidised PBS medication, the TGA allows GPs to generate authority prescriptions remotely following telehealth consultations. Digital signatures are accepted.
While convenient, Centrelink and Medicare may still require in-person assessments in some circumstances for claims and approvals.
Travel Provider Acceptance
Airlines and travel operators take varying approaches to online medical certificates:
– Airlines often accept digital fit to fly reports for pregnancy and mobility assistance.
– Tour operators are more reluctant on remote medical clearances for activities like diving.
– Digital vaccine exemptions tend to need validation through Australian Immunisation Register data.
So acceptance is mixed — connect directly with your travel provider to confirm requirements.
How Online Medical Certificates Help Australians
For many Aussies, online medical certificates have proven invaluable especially amid the pandemic, by:
– Enabling certification when unable to attend a clinic in-person.
– Allowing quicker return to work with digital fit notes.
– Supporting welfare claims despite lockdowns or mobility limits.
– Reducing risks to vulnerable groups by avoiding clinics.
– Cutting certificate costs through bulk-billed telehealth.
– Providing faster healthcare access, often outside business hours.
With their widespread acceptance, digital certificates issued via telehealth give Australians important medical evidence to keep life on track while protecting wellbeing.
Are There Limitations to Online Certificates?
While now commonplace, there are some limitations on full reliance on online-only medical certificates:
– In-person assessments may still be required by some workplaces and insurers periodically.
– Centrelink and PBS approvals often depend on supplementary in-person reports.
– Travel operators can be selective on digital certificate acceptance.
– Doctors may feel less comfortable certifying some conditions like mental health remotely.
– Potential risks around certificate fraud and security with online issuance.
So full transition to telehealth certificates is not yet universally endorsed. Blended online and in-person certification may be the sweet spot.
Best Practice Tips for Online Medical Certificates
To uphold validity for telehealth medical certificates:
– Have a live video consultation so the doctor can assess you properly
– Use a registered Australian practitioner familiar with certification
– Request certificates directly during the consultation
– Have the doctor email securely to you/employer/ insurer direct
– Don’t just use an online form — speak to a real qualified doctor
– Check details like signatures and dates are complete
– Keep the original copy on file if needed for verification
– Follow up in-person if required down the track
What Does the Future Hold for Online Certificates?
The convenience of online medical certification is likely here to stay, with a few directions expected:
– Ongoing acceptance by more employers and insurers as telehealth becomes normalised.
– Tightened regulations around telehealth consult standards for certificates.
– Introduction of digitally verified blockchain certificates to prevent fraud.
– Expanded acceptance for government-subsidised supports.
– Closer integration with online patient management platforms.
– Potential for AI health apps to issue certificates after human review.
While still evolving, telehealth medical certificates provide a flexible certification option complementing in-person assessments where needed. With sensible safeguards, digital fit notes look set to simplify sickness, welfare and travel claims for Australians into the future.
Key Takeaways on Online Medical Certificates
– Telehealth allows convenient access to medical certificates without in-clinic visits.
– They are widely accepted for sick leave and insurance claims if meeting verification standards.
– Some employers and government programs still require in-person assessments periodically.
– Genuine video consultations are key — don’t just use online form templates.
– Fair Work supports the validity of digital certificates for sick leave from a qualified provider.
– Fraud risks need managing as online certification expands.
So are online medical certificates accepted? In most situations yes, though a blended approach is optimal. With integrated digital options and in-person oversight where warranted, certification can be accessed conveniently without compromising verification, for your essential health evidence needs.

How To Contact A Clinic After Hours for GP Services
Tumblr media
What do you need when there is a medical emergency and you don’t have the option to leave the home? You need the nearest after-hours GP services. Now, it’s possible to do that if you simply go online and connect with one.
Doctors on Demand is one such app that can get you in touch with a registered Australian physician in a matter of minutes. After-hours health facilities are provided to ensure that you don’t have to drive down to the hospital ER in an emergency. It can also involve a situation when you may not be feeling well enough to drive yourself down to a clinic. Your regular GP’s clinic may be closed for the day and you need a multispeciality clinic.
If you can download Doctors on Deman on your phone or tablet, you can book an online appointment. You will be prompted to fill in a form containing patient details. You must state the reason for booking an appointment and provide all the necessary contact details. Once the appointment has been confirmed, an email is sent to your inbox. This contains a secure link to start off your interactions with a leading doctor in Australia.
Earlier, you would need to apply for an in-person meeting with your doctor to get a repeat prescription. Now, there’s no need to do that. You can simply avail of the 24x7 after-hours GP services. The app offers online prescription services which are available round-the-clock for an affordable price. It provides a brief video consult with one of the clinic’s doctors.
Similarly, if you need a medical certificate for applying for leave from work because of an emergency medical condition, you don’t have to physically visit an after-hours multispecialty clinic anymore. Whether it's a viral infection or an attack of migraine, you can get a certificate the very next day. Doctors on Demand can provide you with GPs for consultation. They will provide you with the necessary medical certificates anytime of the week.
So, instead of worrying about how to find after-hours medical help, simply download the Doctors on Demand app or visit their official website. Bookings are open 24x7, whenever you need them. With telemedicine facilities, now there’s no need to drive for miles to reach a doctor’s chamber or sit for hours in the waiting room patiently. The doctor can see you without you having to leave your couch. Virtual visits are both effective and convenient, and taking advantage of this facility can be in your best interest.

This is a vent post about my bad experience with therapy years ago. Feel free to ignore it. Trigger warning I guess: it contains shit about mental health issues, suicide, all that fun stuff I can't talk to anyone about in person.
-------------------------------------------------
When I was 24, I tried going to therapy for my mental health "concerns."
I visited a doctor who did some questionarre things to determine how broken I was, and then sent a referral, my results, and some stuff about my history of self-harm and suicide attempts to Headspace, which is a mental health service provider for people under the age of 25. The doctor told me to call them later about it. I called them and the person I spoke to said they didn't receive a referral about me. So, being the depressed person I was, I ended up just not doing anything about it. Didn't call the doctor to find out if they had sent it, just gave up entirely.
Later, after Headspace closed for the day, I received a phone call. It was the person in charge of my city's branch of Headspace. He told me that he had received my referral but there was a waiting list, and by the time I got through it I will have turned 25, putting me out of their age range. So instead he suggested I see a therapist at an all-ages provider called Floresco, and told me it was my only option in my city.
My results and history must've been pretty worrying to him because he sorted out everything himself to get me into an intake interview, and even got a friend at Floresco to make sure I was in the earliest available slot if they have any cancellations, he also called me once a week up to my intake interview to make sure I was okay. Or maybe to make sure I was still alive.
At my intake interview I ended up breaking down and crying about everything that was going on in my life. The depression, the suicide of a close friend, gender issues, etc. They accepted me and set me up with a therapist.
My therapist was a weird middle aged dude who seemed okay at first, fairly understanding about me questioning my gender, although not really getting it himself, and giving me some okay advice about ways to improve my life (which didn't actually help in the end.)
But then he tried to force me to come out as trans to my family. I kept telling him that my family aren't open minded and make transphobic jokes often, and my mental health is so fucked that if they disowned me at this stage in my life I know it would push me over the edge and I would end up killing myself. But he kept telling me that's the only way things will improve. I asked him about getting prescribed antidepressants to try and at least become somewhat stable before doing anything like that and he instead refused to let me see their psychiatrist to get a prescription. Every session was the same thing. Him ignoring my concerns, guilt tripping me for being in the closet, refusing to let me see a psychiatrist, and me trying to stop myself from stepping into traffic on the way home. I actually left every session worse than I went in.
Eventually I didn't show up to a session because I was scared of how much worse my mental health was getting, and a relative had just died. Together it would've been too much. Before the session I called and explained that I had just lost my grandmother and just can't see a therapist to talk about that stuff until I've managed to process everything.
At this point in time I was unemployed. In Australia if you're getting unemployment payments from the government you're required to apply to a specific amount of jobs each month. Because of what I was going through however I was on a medical exemption, each month I had to visit a doctor and they would write a certificate confirming that I'm still not okay, then I would give that to the government, and I wasn't required to apply to jobs. The doctor I saw for the referral had moved away, so I instead had to see some other guy. Because I didn't show up to that one session, my therapist decided to email that doctor and tell him to not sign any more medical exemptions.
I missed one session, and this therapist decided I should be cut off from the only source of money I had, while I was on the verge of suicidal, and was grieving. Fortunately I managed to successfully lie about the job applications before the deadline, two days later, so I could still afford rent.
Since Floresco was my only option I obviously couldn't try seeing another therapist, so I just had to keep living with my problems. It's 4 years later now and even though I'm not actively suicidal, I'm still too scared to come out to my family, so right now, here on tumblr is basically the only place I can identify as the gender I feel comfortable with, instead of having to be a guy "who's not like other guys." So, thanks for most of you being nice to me, and not sending me much transphobic anon hate.
There's no happy end to this post or anything, but I'm thinking about trying to see a psychiatrist or something to find out if I really am bipolar like I've been suspecting for years, and because of this I'm thinking about mental health stuff, and I felt the need to get this out.

Collect Call From... TAYLOR SWIFT
Blender Magazine (final, unpublished issue from May 2009) // By Josh Eells
Each month, one lucky rock star phones Blender HQ for seven days straight, just to, you know, share. Now on the line: country-pop princess.
DAY 1: FEBRUARY 24th, 3:51 pm
Swift calls from Nashville, where she lives with her parents and younger brother. “I’m so happy to be home! I’ve been in Europe for two weeks. I got back two nights ago and spent half of yesterday sleeping. This is my only week off for months, but I categorize vacations differently than most people. I don’t care if I’m doing interviews from when I wake up till I go to sleep, as long as l’m in my own bed, that’s a day off.  This morning I went to some of the radio stations in town, said hi to program directors. Then I met with my stylist - we talked about tour outfits. And now I’m getting dressed for my brother Austin’s lacrosse game. He plays goalie - this is his first game as starter. His friends used to tease him about me, but now he's six two and built. I don’t think they make jokes anymore.”
DAY 2: FEBRUARY 25th, 4:14 pm
Swift phones from home, where she’s “lounging on the couch under a quilt” and playing with her dogs, Baby (a Doberman) and Bug (a mini Pinscher). “Austin did great! His team won, and he kept a bunch of balls out of the goal. Afterwards I went with my friend Emily to a Nashville Predators game. I did a commercial for them, so they hook me up with tickets when I’m in town. There’s a couple of cute guys, but I think they’re all married. I totally cheer and do the fang-finger thing. Last night they put me on the JumboTron, and you could literally see the wave of people getting up to come over. I’m still getting used to the fact that being stared at is part of my day - in high school it meant I had something on my face. The fact that my albums has been No. 1 for 10 weeks - it’s unbelievable. But this week looks a little questionable: The Jonas Brothers have an album out, too. Hmm.”
DAY 3: FEBRUARY 26th, 5:30 pm
Swift dials in from the road In Nashville, where she’s stuck In rush-hour traffic. "I just shot a video with my friend Kellie [Pickier] for a song we wrote together. It’s about ex-boyfriends. In the video I am kind of her trouble-making sidekick - I wore this strapless studded dress with a zipper up the front. The whole day I was afraid someone was gonna walk by and unzip me. It would have taken half a second to ruin my day. Oh, my God, last night I fell asleep on the couch watching CSI: NY. I was out at like 7, but at some point I dragged myself to bed, and apparently in my haze I turned the heat up to 95! I woke up in the middle of the night drenched in sweat, with my poor cat lying on the floor panting. I made myself an ice bath and called my friend Emma in LA - she was in Superbad - and she kept me company for two hours while I cooled down.”
DAY 4: FEBRUARY 27th, 4:37 pm
Swift rings from the music room at her house, where she’s teaching herself how to play piano. “I’m still not caught up from my jet lag. Today I woke up at 5:30, ate same cereal and fell back asleep on the couch. I didn’t sleep long though, because we had rehearsal this morning. Kenny Chesney was rehearsing next door, so we chatted for a bit. Nashville is a really small town. I still live with my parents because I’m never home long enough to move out. And I don’t go to bars, because I’m 19 and scared of breaking rules. Besides Kellie and my best friend Abigail, who moved to Kansas, most of my friends are in LA. And boys aren’t even an issue right now. I categorize guys as “talking”, “nominees” - people you feel like you could someday date - and “dating”. Right now I don’t even have nominees. I don’t even have potential future nominees! But I’m used to being single. Before my last relationship [with Joe Jonas] I was single for like two years. It’s sort of my thing.”
DAY 5: FEBRUARY 28th, 12:50 pm
Swift checks in from her mom’s car with some medical news. “So, I’m driving to the doctors office. I burned my face with a curling iron! Don’t worry, I’m fine - I’ll call you after we’re done. [She phones a few hours later.] OK. What happened was, I woke up at 6 am and decided to curl my hair. I guess l was still asleep, because I slipped and burned my face under my right eye. It hurt really bad, but I didn’t think much of it. I edited and uploaded a MySpace video - unhindered by the fact that my face was melting off - and went downstairs, and my dad was like, ‘Oh, my God!’ I guess it was worse than I realized. So we went to the dermatologist. She gave me a prescription for some burn cream - I’m not sure what it is, but it has a lot of syllables. The good news is I’m expected to make a full recovery.”
DAY 6: MARCH 1st, 10:03 pm
Swift phones from Plant City, Florida, where she lust performed at the world famous Florida Strawberry Festival. “This place is strawberry city! When we landed, there were official Strawberry Festival minivans waiting to pick us up, driven by people in strawberry shirts. In the dressing room there were bushels of the most beautiful, gigantic chocolate covered strawberries I’ve ever seen. It’s like they welded three together! And this afternoon I met the Strawberry Festival Queen and her court. They were dressed in red and looked very sparkly. It was cold for Florida, like 55 and rainy, but everybody bundled up and had a great time. Afterward we had a police escort, which always makes you feel cool, and we’re taking a private jet, which is even cooler. On the way to the airport all these kids were trying to hurl themselves on our car - it was pretty frantic for a second. But thankfully no one got hurt. That’s why it was cool.”
DAY 7: MARCH 2nd, 12:50 pm
On her last day at home, Swift calls from her favorite couch, where she’s enjoying the view of Old Hickory Lake. “It’s freezing in Tennessee! It’s like 29 degrees, and I’m sitting here packing sundresses and flip-flops for two weeks in Australia. That and downloading movies for the 20,000-hour flight I’m about to embark on. I have three goals for this trip. One, get a tan. Two, go to the beach. And three, debut my new summer wardrobe. Oh, and four, play some good shows and make an impact on Australia! Ha. I don’t go into most situations thinking I’m going to win. I’ve never even won a raffle. These blessings I’ve had lately are more amazing than I could have ever imagined. We got the new projections today, and It’s looking like we’re going to be No.1 again. Does it feel a little sweeter this week? [Laughs] Yeah - just a little.”

Hello! Ik you said you work in medicine and ik you might not want to dish out medical advice online but um. I was taking pain killers nsaids for period cramps and I lost my prescription,,, I don't trust Google and I don't want to go to the doc in these current circumstances just for this ,,, so if it's not a bother can u pls tell me how many times a day I can take this medicine without dying 😭 https://www.medibuddy.in/medicines/tablet-zerodol-p like how many per day is allowed?? Also im 20+ incase that's important 💜💜 thank u answering if u do! It'll be super helpful
Hi Anon. I really want to help you but hope you understand that ethically/legally I can’t really recommend or give you advice on a medication that we don’t have here in Australia. Nothing I say should replace what your own doctor prescribed to you and I also don’t know your medical history.
As a general rule no adult (with normal liver function) should be exceeding 4 grams of Paracetamol per day. We do not have Aceclofenac here in Australia (the other ingredient in Zerodol) so I’d rather not comment on that one.
However, if you’ve been prescribed it and picked it up from a pharmacy, there should be a sticker on the box with the dosing and they should have a record of your script. Can you call them to clarify? Pharmacists are usually quite helpful. I don’t know how healthcare where you are works but over here in Australia, doctors are usually happy to take a phone call from patients if they need to clarify dosing. Even a nurse at the clinic can read what the doctor has prescribed on the computer system. There are ways to get clarification without having to physically go into a clinic.
Sorry I can’t just answer you (even though I want to). I hope your period cramps are better.

but there’s room for you and me (paul/ace) (unfinished) (pg-13)
While digging around on Ace’s birthday, I found an unfinished Stehley one-shot from probably over a year ago. I don’t think it’d take much clean up, but in case I don’t ever put it anywhere official, or finish it, I figured I’d post it here. Inevitable mentions of Ace/Peter and your general blanket list of rockstar warnings. Stehley always gets me feeling some kind of way.
“but there’s room for you and me”
by Ruriruri
“You got your ear fixed.”
“It’s just cosmetic. Still can’t hear out of it, but it looks better.”
“Could’ve told me.”
“We weren’t touring.”
“We weren’t touring? Fuck, Paul.”
“So fucking tense. You didn’t fix what’s wrong with you any better than I did.”
“Let’s eat.”
He realized, dimly, that Paul wasn’t even bothering with sunglasses or a scarf these days in public. He wondered when that had happened, when the mystique and interest had faded so much that even Paul, the vainest man he’d ever known in his life, realized there was no point in hiding a face no one cared about anymore.
No point.
Ace shoved a five at the girl at the counter and didn’t bother retrieving the change. Carried the red plastic tray stacked with the Styrofoam to-go box and the throwaway cup of Sprite to the dingy table Paul was already sitting at. God. As a kid he wouldn’t have ever imagined this. Would’ve thought they’d set up all sorts of colonies on the Moon first like Von Braun used to talk about on ABC. Instead everyone had just dug their heels all the deeper into Earth, filling it with more skyscrapers, more crap, inventing microwaves, cellular phones, malls. Making everything easier but the living.
Paul raised his head when Ace sat down, scooping up a crouton from his grilled chicken salad and pushing it over to one corner of the box. He was lining up the croutons like sunburned soldiers in formation. Hadn’t taken a bite yet. Ace wondered if he was still on that workout kick he’d started a few years ago. Wondered if that wasn’t so much an attempt to beat the clock as it was another effort at winning back a crowd that didn’t give a fuck. Look better, feel better, be better, as if KISS had ever sold a single album via the attractiveness of its members.
He could see it, and he guessed Paul could, too. The change in the air. It wasn’t just KISS hitting rock bottom now; it was everything their entire fucking generation ever said they wanted going south. The hippies with their free love bullshit and flowers in their hair, the hippies he’d fallen in with back in high school, they’d all run off in droves to Wall Street. They’d wanted to tear down the establishment and instead they’d built it up all the higher. A tower of babel hanging up high above their heads.
Ace waited for Paul to start in, say something, anything. Talk about the contract. Fifteen million on the line. You can buy a lot of therapy with fifteen million, Ace’s lawyer had said, and Ace had closed his eyes and asked if he could buy his life back, too.
His lawyer hadn’t answered. Ace didn’t figure he’d keep him much longer.
“You’re real good at cutting people up, you know?” Conversational. “Always have been. Used to wonder where it came from.”
Paul reached over for his drink, fingers on the straw.
“Did you ever figure it out?”
“I figured it out the first time we fucked.” Ace opened up the container. The smell of teriyaki chicken and steamed vegetables and noodles was almost overpowering, but he grabbed a plastic fork anyway and started to eat, waiting to see if Paul would argue or change the subject again. But he didn’t do either. Maybe he was so self-absorbed he wanted to hear it. Wanted to hear anything about himself, no matter how unflattering. “You’re scared, Paulie. You’ve always been scared as hell.”
Ace closed his eyes. The pressure was right there, directly between them. He’d blame a hangover, but he’d been clean for three days now.
“You any better, Ace?”
“At least I’m not shoving everyone away with both hands and crying about it afterwards.”
Paul didn’t say anything, just scraped at the salad. He hadn’t bothered with dressing.
“You shouldn’t have done Peter like that. You and Gene.”
“You voted him out, too. Don’t make out like you didn’t.” Paul’s voice was deceptively even and public-ready. Ace could feel the claws just beneath.
“It’s the way you did it.” The oily noodles were already a little cold by the time they reached his tongue. Ace forced them down anyway. “Just put on goddamn suits and took him into the office like he was a fucking—a fucking employee, like he wasn’t your friend—”
“He—”
“You cut him out, Paul. You had to. But not ugly like that.”
“You didn’t even show. You were too busy getting fucked-up—”
“You’re damn right I was.” Ace swallowed. “I wasn’t gonna face him like that.”
“Didn’t have the guts to watch a guy you used to fuck get fired?”
“Would you?”
Paul didn’t answer.
***
“Paul, we’re losing it. We’re losing it.”
“You’re right. We’re losing it and you’re jumping ship. Find the nearest lifeboat and just paddle out, huh?”
“Is that what you think this is?”
“You’re gonna tell me it isn’t? Fuck, Ace. Fuck. Don’t you dare call me scared when you can’t handle one bad album.”
“It isn’t the album.” Ace lifted his head. “You don’t get it. You can’t—we can’t keep it up. We can’t even tour in our own country. They don’t want us anymore, you know?”
“Then we’ll tour Europe again. We’ll go back to Australia. Whatever. I didn’t know the audience was so damn important to you.”
“You’re a hell of a guy to tell me that, Paulie.”
“And you’re a hell of a guy to lie to me, Ace.”
He didn’t answer. Couldn’t answer. Paul reached out, hand resting on top of his. No rings or anything. Not even the customary Rolex on his wrist. Ace wondered, dully, if Paul’d still have it in another three years.
“Why do you want out? Why do you really want out? Just tell me. Just tell me, all right?”
“Paul, please, Jesus—”
Paul hadn’t moved his hand yet. Ace could feel the calluses on it, the sweat on it. A case of nerves that fifteen fucking years of spilling his guts to a shrink hadn’t gotten rid of. Paul couldn’t ever calm down. Couldn’t ever calm down because he didn’t want to. That anxiety hung all over him like an old lover. Ace’s fingers curled up beneath Paul’s hand, but that was all.
“Ace.”
“I’m gonna die if I stay in this band. I’m gonna kill myself.”
“You what?” And now Paul was clutching his fingers, clamping onto them. Actually trying to lace their fingers together, Christ, he was, he was and Ace was letting him do it. “What do you mean? You can’t—you have a daughter, Ace, you can’t—”
“Not like that. I don’t—I don’t wanna die—”
“What do you need? Do you need a doctor? I can get you somebody, I can get you anybody, anybody you want, name it, I’ll—”
“I said I don’t wanna die, Paul.” An exhale. “I wouldn’t do it on purpose.”
“You’d overdose?” Paul was staring at him. Big brown eyes locked on his face. Ace wanted to see some coldness there, some indifference, some—some calculation, just to make this easier, but there wasn’t any. Paul’s nails dug into his knuckles. “You think we couldn’t keep the coke away from you?”
“No. I know you couldn’t.” A smirk, false and hollow, was trying to pull at his face. He didn’t let it. “Christ, Paulie, everyone’s on it. Everyone’s done it. Everyone I know but you and Gene and poor little Eric.”
Paul went silent.
“And don’t you get all high and mighty on me when you used to keep a fucking drawer of speed on hand—when you still got prescriptions for shit you don’t even have—”
“I didn’t say anything! Ace, listen, you think it’ll get better if you’re out of the band? You think the band’s what’s keeping you coked up? The hell it is. You—you wouldn’t have anything to distract you from them without KISS. No tours you gotta get ready for. No concerts. Nothing. Y-you’d just be an even bigger fucking mess.”
Two guys messing around in the backseat of a Cadillac. It could’ve been ’68, Paul melting and smoothing out into Jeanette in his mind, pale, pretty Jeanette who’d been his girl, stayed his girl long enough to add one more ring to his finger. Was still his girl, somehow. It could’ve been ’73, Paul himself in all his painful shyness, too nerved-out to initiate much more than a kiss even in Ace’s bedroom; it could’ve been ’78, Paul a little less fragile and a little less frayed. There’d still been a softness to his face then, a sort of gentility that five years of touring hadn’t yet obliterated. That was gone now. That was all gone now.
He could wish it back. He could try. God knew Paul was trying, his mouth on Ace’s, tongue desperate for an entrance, his hands roaming down Ace’s chest like he was feeling for bitemarks he hadn’t left there in years.
“Say it, Ace. Say it.”
“No—”
“You’ll get clean, you’ll do it, whatever it takes, just please—”
“I can’t, Paul.”
The silhouette of Ace’s house looked like a sailor’s leviathan, all mass and tyranny, before the winds broke it down into drunken dreams.

- Sick leave notes for missing work
- Return to work certificates outlining capacity
- Centrelink medical reports for welfare claims
- Fit to fly and travel certificates
- Prescription authorities for subsidised medication
While convenient, are these digital certificates seen as legitimate? Here we look at the recognition status across different sectors.
Employer Acceptance of Online Medical Certificates
For sick leave, online certificates are generally accepted by most Australian employers in public, private and not-for-profit sectors.
Key factors making them valid include:
- Issued during a live telehealth consultation by an Australian-registered GP following assessment.
- Contains all required details — doctor/patient identification, dates of leave, nature of condition etc.
- Displays the doctor’s digital signature and provider number.
- Sent securely via email or patient’s online record platform.
- Airlines often accept digital fit to fly reports for pregnancy and mobility assistance.
- Tour operators are more reluctant on remote medical clearances for activities like diving.
- Digital vaccine exemptions tend to need validation through Australian Immunisation Register data.
So acceptance is mixed — connect directly with your travel provider to confirm requirements.
How Online Medical Certificates Help Australians
For many Aussies, online medical certificates have proven invaluable especially amid the pandemic, by:
- Enabling certification when unable to attend a clinic in-person.
- Allowing quicker return to work with digital fit notes.
- Supporting welfare claims despite lockdowns or mobility limits.
- Reducing risks to vulnerable groups by avoiding clinics.
- Cutting certificate costs through bulk-billed telehealth.
- Providing faster healthcare access, often outside business hours.
With their widespread acceptance, digital certificates issued via telehealth give Australians important medical evidence to keep life on track while protecting wellbeing.
Are There Limitations to Online Certificates?
While now commonplace, there are some limitations on full reliance on online-only medical certificates:
- In-person assessments may still be required by some workplaces and insurers periodically.
- Centrelink and PBS approvals often depend on supplementary in-person reports.
- Travel operators can be selective on digital certificate acceptance.
- Doctors may feel less comfortable certifying some conditions like mental health remotely.
- Potential risks around certificate fraud and security with online issuance.
So full transition to telehealth certificates is not yet universally endorsed. Blended online and in-person certification may be the sweet spot.
Best Practice Tips for Online Medical Certificates
To uphold validity for telehealth medical certificates:
- Have a live video consultation so the doctor can assess you properly
- Use a registered Australian practitioner familiar with certification
- Request certificates directly during the consultation
- Have the doctor email securely to you/employer/ insurer direct
- Don’t just use an online form — speak to a real qualified doctor
- Check details like signatures and dates are complete
- Keep the original copy on file if needed for verification
- Follow up in-person if required down the track
What Does the Future Hold for Online Certificates?
The convenience of online medical certification is likely here to stay, with a few directions expected:
- Ongoing acceptance by more employers and insurers as telehealth becomes normalised.
- Tightened regulations around telehealth consult standards for certificates.
- Introduction of digitally verified blockchain certificates to prevent fraud.
- Expanded acceptance for government-subsidised supports.
- Closer integration with online patient management platforms.
- Potential for AI health apps to issue certificates after human review.
While still evolving, telehealth medical certificates provide a flexible certification option complementing in-person assessments where needed. With sensible safeguards, digital fit notes look set to simplify sickness, welfare and travel claims for Australians into the future.
Key Takeaways on Online Medical Certificates
- Telehealth allows convenient access to medical certificates without in-clinic visits.
- They are widely accepted for sick leave and insurance claims if meeting verification standards.
- Some employers and government programs still require in-person assessments periodically.
- Genuine video consultations are key — don’t just use online form templates.
- Fair Work supports the validity of digital certificates for sick leave from a qualified provider.
- Fraud risks need managing as online certification expands.
So are online medical certificates accepted? In most situations yes, though a blended approach is optimal. With integrated digital options and in-person oversight where warranted, certification can be accessed conveniently without compromising verification, for your essential health evidence needs.
