Alfons Sylvatica: Chapter 18
Chapter 17
♡———♡
Lord Gore, a member of the House of Lords, tapped his desk impatiently with his blue ring.
The members of the Purification Club were desperately searching for those who had prevented the arson in the London docklands.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: The problem is... despite the large-scale operation, there were no witnesses.
Lawmaker with Round Glasses: Even when we questioned the nearby residents, all of them gave irrelevant answers...
Young Lawmaker: The guys we hired also disappeared from the scene and haven't been seen since...
Young Lawmaker: The payment check to the front company also disappeared, and now that company has been raided by the police.
Lord Gore taps his desk with his ring again.
Lord Gore: ...Someone with considerable authority and power is at work.
Lord Gore: It's a bit of a hindrance to our goal of building a pure society.
???: --I completely agree.
The people present were startled by the voice coming from behind them.
Lord Gore: ...What brings a member of the Privy Council here?
Man from Privy Council: Well, I thought the knowledge I have might be of help to you.
The man's sharp gaze slowly surveyed the room.
Man from Privy Council: A little while ago... wasn't there an intruder in a "realm inaccessible to ordinary people?"
Lord Gore: ...I believe there was.
Young Lawmaker: T-two intruders at the members-only hotel... It's the first time since the club was founded.
Man from Privy Council: I see. Perhaps the ones hindering you are the stain on Britain that we've been troubled with for the past decade or so.
Man from Privy Council: What do you say? We're both troubled by a common pest... how about forming a cooperative relationship?
--Back at Crown--
Victor: Ta-da! Tonight's main course is Victor's special beef stew!
A banquet was being held to celebrate the successful prevention of the fire in Docklands.
It seemed that all members of Crown were forced to participate, and even Jude was present.
But...
Kate: Where's Alfons?
Elbert: ...He's been out and hasn't come back yet.
Kate: Is that so...?
Elbert: .............
Victor: I also wanted to find him and have him taste the special stew no matter what.
Victor: But he escaped by every possible means.
William: Haha, it's rare for Victor to miss.
Victor: He slipped away like a cat, it's troublesome. The security guards around here can't handle him at all.
Ellis: But you caught Jude.
Victor: Catching Jude depends on the negotiation.
Harrison: I hope the Queen's aide doesn't abuse his power and increase the country's unaccounted-for expenditures.
Victor: Don't worry, Harrison. I'm paying for it from my own pocket money!
Jude: I wonda' where that money comes from.
William: I recommend not digging into it.
It's hard to tell if they're close or not, but this is the lively dinner scene of the Crown members.
Usually, Alfons...and I would be laughing along with them, but today it feels distant.
(All the Crown members, like Alfons, are cursed with a destiny...)
(If I were in the same position...would I understand Alfons' feelings better?)
(To lightly wish for the same position...must be proof that I don't understand everyone's suffering.)
I couldn't bear the frustration of not being able to understand everything.
As I felt the distance and was filled with a gloomy feeling...
Liam: How about some roast chicken and salad, my lady?
Liam appeared like a first-class waiter and skillfully picked up the chicken and salad with a fork and spoon, serving them on a plate.
Liam: Hehe, just kidding. Here you go. This is for Kate too.
Kate: ! Thank you, Liam...Wow, it looks delicious...!
Liam: Right? Victor and the chefs in this castle are truly geniuses!
(Is he worried because I'm not feeling well?)
His dazzling smile seemed to gently envelop my gloomy feelings.
His casual thoughtfulness is proof that he pays attention to the people around him.
Encouraged by Liam's smile, I take a bite of the salad.
Kate: ...Mmm, it's delicious. Thank you, Liam.
Liam: I didn't do anything. If you're grateful, thank the chef and Victor, okay?
Liam: ...You know, I'm not the one who can make you truly happy.
Kate: Huh?
Liam: I would love it if Kate liked me back.
Kate: Eh? Even if you're trying to cheer me up, that's a bit too much.
Harrison: Who are you flirting with, Liam?
Liam: Ah, busted. I have some for you too, Harry, here you go.
The delicious dinner and conversation with everyone lightened my gloomy mood.
(...Yeah. It's not the time to feel distant and depressed.)
(I know exactly what I want to do.)
(For that, I have no choice but to take a step forward.)
As I solidified a certain determination in my chest, the banquet was nearing its end...
The clear sound of a spoon lightly tapping a glass echoed, and the atmosphere in the dining hall changed.
Victor: Everyone, will you listen to me?
Everyone's eyes focused on Victor.
A sharpened silence. The air of a dark night.
Victor: We've mostly finished our investigation on Councilman Gore. He's a senior member of the House of Lords...
Victor: The central figure of the "Purification" club, that's exactly who he is.
William: The club's faction consists of a dozen or so council members.
William: They are eugenic thinkers who believe that slum dwellers are an inferior race and should all be killed.
William: They work in the shadows for that mission and call the massacre of the poor "purification."
(...How horrible...)
I had expected it, but I was shocked by the fact that there are people who really think and act on such things.
Elbert: ...If you've figured that much out, has the judgment already been passed?
William: That was the plan.
Victor: We already tried to contact Councilman Gore once for the purpose of judgment, but...we failed.
Kate: Huh...!?
(Failed?)
Victor: He was absent from a meeting he was supposed to attend. In fact, there wasn't even a seat prepared for him.
William: Victor is the Queen's aide.
William: Just as there is no information that Her Majesty cannot grasp, Victor is also well-versed in all information.
William: Nevertheless, he was fed false information. In other words...
Jude: Someone is presentin' false information to Her Majesty.
Jude, still leaning back in his chair, gives the answer.
Jude: And someone quite close to Her Majesty, otherwise it would be dismissed as misinformation before it reached her.
Kate: No way...who could do such a thing?
William: To be able to manipulate even information about the House of Lords members, it has to be someone above the Parliament.
William: We believe that someone from the Privy Council may be involved.
Kate: ...The Privy Council...?
(What's that...?)
Kate: It's the Queen's advisory body...right?
Victor: Yes, the official name is "Her Majesty's Most Honorable Privy Council."
Victor: From the very beginning, they've considered the Crown to be a stain on England.
Victor: But since Her Majesty herself supports the Crown, they can't openly attack us. It would be treason.
Victor: There are three things they can do. One is to complain to Her Majesty.
Victor: The second is to make us slip up and create a situation where Her Majesty has no choice but to abandon the Crown.
Victor: And the third is to lend a hand to those who are hostile to us and eliminate us without getting their own hands dirty.
Kate: ...So you're saying they're helping the "Purification" club?
Victor: It's highly likely.
(No way...)
Kate: For those in Her Majesty's advisory body to lend a hand to an organization that massacres innocent people...!
Victor: It's a matter of priorities. They'll use anything they can to eliminate the thorn in their side.
Victor: If they can eliminate us, the "Purification" club will be discarded.
Victor: Even if they use a pawn, they'll eliminate it if it becomes an eyesore.
Victor: --That said, what we do won't change.
Victor lowers his voice and looks around at the Crown members.
Victor: Never let your guard down, and don't miss any opportunities.
Victor: As always, we'll just fulfill our own evil.
William: We'll call a meeting as soon as the situation develops.
William: Until then, each of you fulfill your own evil.
-
Kate: --Roger.
After finishing the meal, I called out to the broad back that was about to leave the dining hall.
Roger: Hey. Looks like your hangover is cured.
Kate: Thanks to the medicine, thank you very much. ...Um, I have something to consult you about.
Roger: Oh really? Me? Well, let's hear it.
I exhaled and looked at Roger's face.
Kate: After hearing about Alfons' destiny...I've been thinking about it.
Kate: Won't you let me help you find a way to change the cursed destinies?
Roger: ...Let's change locations.
He took me to an empty lounge.
Roger: Now then, let's hear your intentions.
I sat on the sofa, facing Roger, and opened my mouth again.
Kate: ...I don't want to forget Alfons.
(Roger has been searching for a way to change destinies for a long time.)
(I know how difficult it is to find it, but...)
Kate: If there's a loophole in destiny...somewhere...
Kate: If there's a way to remember, I desperately want to know!
Kate: If I knew the way...I could remember the person I love.
Kate: And Alfons too...
If his destiny is to not leave an irreparable void in anyone's heart, and he doesn't connect with anyone or show his inner feelings...
Kate: When he wants someone he truly loves to remember him someday...
Kate: He won't have to push that person away, right?
(If possible, I wish it were me.)
(Because...I fell in love with him.)
(But even if that doesn't come true, I want him to be happy someday.)
Not in a convenient illusion, but in this reality.
Roger: A loophole, huh...?
Roger narrows his eyes and strokes his chin.
Kate: ...Yes.
Roger: In the basement, there are newspaper articles about mysterious events, case files stolen from the police...
Roger: And medical records from hospitals.
Kate: ...Investigation materials related to "the cursed"?
Roger: Yeah. Especially regarding "mirrors," the royal records were almost blank, so there's a particularly huge amount.
Roger: If we go through the past materials again, we might find something new.
Roger: I've been focusing only on the cursed themselves.
Roger: I haven't read them from the perspective of "whether there's anyone who remembers."
Kate: ...!
Hope shines through at those words.
Roger: Well, there might not be any discoveries at all.
Kate: Even so, it's okay. Please let me investigate with you!
Roger: Alright. I don't have any missions scheduled until the call for the "Purification" club case.
Roger: Since we're investigating curses, it falls under your duties as a Fairytale Keeper, lady.
Roger held out his hand in front of me, forming a fist.
Roger: It's late at night. If we're doing this, it'll be from tomorrow.
Kate: Yes!
I lightly bumped my clenched fist against Roger's.
-
The next day, after breakfast, on our way to the basement with Roger...
Alfons: Oh?
We bumped into Alfons, who seemed to have just returned to the castle.
Kate: Ah...welcome back.
Roger: Hey, Al.
Remembering that we parted ways after being told I was a nuisance, my heart pounded with an unpleasant sound.
Alfons: The two of you, going out together?
Kate: N-no...
Roger: What, are you interested?
Before I could hurriedly deny it, Roger suddenly put his arm around my shoulder.
Kate: Roger!? What are you doing?
Roger: What's wrong with it? We're going to be cooped up in a closed room all day, just the two of us. Let's get along, shall we?
(With that kind of talk and attitude, Alfons will misunderstand...!)
Alfons: I see. It's good that you have a good friend to play with even when I'm not around, Kate.
Kate: ...
My wounded heart ached at his indifferent attitude.
After giving me a sidelong glance, Alfons quickly tried to leave.
(I didn't want him to be jealous. But...)
**flashback to tavern room**
Alfons: --You don't love me.
**flashback over**
(I don't want those words to become the truth in Alfons' mind...)
Kate: Alfons...!
Alfons: ? Yes, what is it?
Kate: ...I still like you.
Alfons: ...Huh?
Roger: ............
(I don't want to be misunderstood.)
Kate: Even if it's a nuisance to you...this is my truth.
Alfons: ...............
Kate: Roger, let's go!
If I kept looking at Alfons any longer, my chest would feel so tight that I couldn't bear it...I ran down the stairs to the basement as if fleeing.
Alfons: ...............
Roger: Haha...It's been a while since I've seen you so speechless.

Note
bestie im going to melb and as a local do u have any recommendations for stuff we should do while were there?
FYCK YESSSSSS COME TO MELBOURNE!!!!!!! okay heres my exorbitant mostly food related list (note these places are almost all in the CBD):
coffee/matcha:
if you like coffee, best locations in the CBD are little rogue on drewery lane nearby melbourne central station, and tbh any coffee joint along flinders lane
if you don't like coffee but like matcha or houjicha, drop by little rogue or tori's on niagara lane!! puzzle coffee (there's one on swanston st and in melbourne central station) is also tasty
i've also heard good things about naau's matcha - they're off russell st but i haven't been there myself
breakfast/brunch/bakery:
if you want to try a classic melb brunch, try hardware lane! there's a few places in the laneway and it feels very melbourne
also on drewery lane is bakemono - an adorable little bakery that does amazing melonpan! but they sell out quick and get busy, so you want to get there by 10am at the latest
(can you tell laneways are our culture)
okay i know they opened elsewhere in australia now but LUNE is great... love the croissants....... JC patisserie boulangerie is further north but a quick train ride away - heard great things!
if you want a fun time........ hopetoun tearooms!! SOO CUTE even just the cake window is worth a look. if you want high tea you gotta book out ages in advance, but if you don't mind waiting a little they take walk ins! perfect for an afternoon pot of tea and tasty cake
more lunchy-places:
look, anywhere on degraves st will get you there, and it's also a classic tourist spot! walk down and see the most quintessential melbourne laneway there is!
if you want american-themed fare, bowery to williamsburg FUCKS i had a stunning reuben there.
tbh i rarely actually have lunch, i just get brunch... so all the recommendations above can double
dinner or lunch restaurants:
soooo i love ramen so if you do too, ikkoryu fukuoka ramen is top tier! i love their yuzu ramen. hakata gensuke is good if you like chicken ramen, and shujinko ramen (rip the flinders st store) is good if you're going up elizabeth st and want affordable
mensho tokyo ramen opened recently but uhhhhh the wait has been 3 to 5 hous somedays. ITS POPULAR. ippudo in QV is probably easier and more convenient
outside of ramen, if you want more fancy fancy farmer's daughters is STELLAR. delicious food, great cocktails, mm. nice modern aussie dining. longrain nearby is also very popular!
also vaguely upmarket is chinchin - good curry! the waiters market is a place that my mum hugely recommend before shows but ive never managed to get there myself lmao.
not ramen but still japanese is dohtonbori.. ever wanted to mix and flip your own okonomiyaki? now's the time
I WANT TO GO TO THE NATURAL HISTORY PUBLIC BAR. it's also a restaurant set to look like the american museum of natural history, if you go pls have fun
bubbletea, its own category:
this is just a list.
milksha, the alley lujiaoxiang, machi machi, coco. these are all good. chatime is fine but gongcha is better but theyre the chains so... i really want to go to choulee!! i heard theyre good
desserts:
hokkaido baked cheese tart, black star patisserie, pafu, kurimu, uncle tetsu's, brunetti's for cakes and later nights, sulhwa, and bingsu.
further out or more expensive but fun:
i need to go to milk the cow so BAAAD. there's one in st kilda, which is a short tram ride from flinders st station. if you go lmk
places to visit:
the botanical gardens!! pretty, always a nice time
the NGV likely has some free exhibits going on! always a nice wander
you gotta stop by hozier lane. you gotta. and wander around fed square while you're at it
drewery lane also has some artwork!
a walk down birrarung marr is also nice, sometimes there's night markets going on by the stadiums
the docklands has some alright places, but i know less about it... but they have a ferris wheel rn! check it out!
if you wanna spend thirty or more bucks, go up the eureka tower!! tallest building, and you can get a cool view of the city. the edge experience is a little lift that sticks out the building so you can stare down through glass to the ground below. fun if you aren't afraid of heights
if you like shopping, emporium is fancy and has a MEEQ store where you can buy jellycats
you can go to the queen victoria market if you wanna.... its a classic destination after all
THE LUME is a classic experience here too rn - more exxy but if you want a fun visual experience, do it!
if you want comics - check out all star comics! best LCS in the area.
other specific stores i recommend:
gewürzhaus! there's one in block arcade off collins st, i love it and the spices
not far from gewürzhaus is essensorie - they discon'd my fave handcream SOB but they have some nice things (this is all in the black arcade, same as hopetoun)
and with that, tbh check out all the arcades? they have fun things going on!! there's the block arcade, royal arcade with gog and magog, tivoli arcade... that is to say they're little indoor walkways with shops and stores, as in an arcade you walk through! they're cute
bourke st mall is worth a wander, and you can see the outside of the old post office that's now a H&M...
i know you said "things to do" but... all i do is eat mostly LMAO!!
really, the best thing to do is give yourself a day or two for the CBD. just wander, it's all a grid and easily navigable, and take advantage of the free tram zone!!!! it'll announce when it isn't so you know to touch on your myki or not, i'm not a cop.
you could also wander down to crown at night, southbank has many restaurants and also the flames outside crown fucketh severely
if you're going outside the CBD, its an hours or so drive but healesville sanctuary is soo fun.. and on the way there you can stop by kuranga nursery, it's a gorgeous little place and the paperbark cafe does a bunch of tasty meals with native flavours and bushtucker
if you'll be in the suburbs i have more recommendations too!! but for those just message ma and i'll share so this list isn't crazier than it is xx HAVE FUN!!!!!!!!

London docklands. It was a different view than he was used to, but in the last three months after finally gaining some capitol back after the quick sale of his former home, splitting the profits of the townhouse mansion between himself, Billy and his mother, it was all his. Out of the four million he’d received from the sale, he’d spent three on the Canary Wharf penthouse, the view absolutely stunning.
It was the first time he would be living alone, Sean considering moving Billy in with him purely out of the need to keep an eye on him, his elder brother refusing on account of the fact that he felt that it was long overdue he find his own feet in the world, continuing with his sobriety and being able to support himself, neither answerable any longer to the iron fist of their father, or the duplicitous deviance of their mother.
Sean had meant what he’d said. He did not want a relationship with Marian going forward, so quite simply, had not sought one. Her continued protests to attain the contrary had fallen on the deafest of ears. He’d moved on, gladly without her.
“Hello, mister Sean!” The bright chirp of Dara, the girl who manned the orders at the fairly local Thai takeaway he had a fondness for made him smile. She recognised his number instantly now, since he called almost every night to order dinner. It was nice to be remembered, even so casually. “The usual for you, yes?”
“Yes please, darling. A bag of spicy crackers as well.”
“Oh, I love when you call me darling! You such charming man, mister Sean.” At least somebody thought so. “Thank you for order, can I take card details?”
They were about the only place he could think of that did not set themselves up with outfits such as Just Eat or Uber Eats, nor could you order online. Dara’s grandfather apparently did not believe in the internet as a viable option for ordering, only beginning to accept card payments at a push from his granddaughters who assisted in running the family business. Well, he was ninety-two, rather happy to be set in his ways at that age, Sean didn’t doubt.
Ending the call, he stripped off his suit, turning the corner lamp on in the lounge and heading to the laundry bag, his boxers, trousers and shirt going in, ready for the woman who did his washing and ironing for him to collect a day later once the end of the working week rolled around. Hanging up his jacket, he then strode to the bathroom, turning on the shower and stepping in, ready to wash away the long, arduous day.
Schmoozing with investors was always the task which befell Alex Dumani, the man who had once been like a brother to him. He enjoyed it, had the patience and poise for it. For Sean, while it was true that he possessed the kind of charm that meant he was entirely capable of such, he loathed having to kiss arse to those effectively paying his wages. Very, very generous wages, returning him to the life of opulence he’d always been accustomed to.
Life at the top. The echo surrounding it was unmatched in its vastness.
Before, he’d had his family around him, mum, dad, brother, his sister too whenever the bitterness between her and Marian had allowed, Ed and Alex, Shannon and Danny. In his rising from the ashes, he was a lone phoenix. Sporadic contact with his brother and sister, and no real friends to speak of either. Dressing in his pyjama bottoms and a t shirt, he did consider calling Billy, hand reaching for his phone. He then remembered that Thursdays were his narcotics anonymous meetings.
His old life had been fractured beyond repair, the bonds and threads pulled apart with such savage vigour, it was impossible to stitch them back together again. Too much damage come undone, he could succinctly coin it. He had both everything and nothing.
Once his food had arrived, he ate while watching a documentary on the Roman empire, washing it down with a few glasses of good red wine before heading to bed at 11pm. He was then up at six, in the gym by half past, out of there at seven thirty and in his office by 8am.
He often thought it was by Catherine’s obvious desire to remind him of his place that she’d hired new office space for the Wallace Corporation right in the direct eyeline of his old business premises, the large tower housing the offices of Dumani Finance visible clearly from his much smaller location. Her desire to rub salt in his wounds showed no sign of abating.
“Coffee, a green smoothie and they had these there, too. Blueberry and peanut butter protein slices. They’re really very nice,” Minnie spoke, entering his office after knocking. Nostalgia had prompted him to hunt down his father’s former secretary, the woman who had gone on to work as his own too after Finn’s death and bring her back into the fold. That and she was the most well organised person he knew.
“Appreciated, Minnie. Thank you.” He took the items with a smile, watching as she pulled out the iPad she’d juggled under her arm. “How is my day shaping up?”
Consulting his diary on the screen with a few swipes, she began. “You have a meeting with Helen Ford and Omar Mand at 11am, preliminary discussions with the consortium for the new apartment complex in Richmond at 1pm, 2pm you’re scheduled for a telephone meeting and after that, your day is free.”
A free day from mid-afternoon, and absolutely nothing to do with it. Again.
It was as he was leaving his second meeting, passing by the gates of Richmond Park that afternoon and seeing an abundance of dog walkers that an idea suddenly came to him, a way he might both cure his loneliness and take up a little more of his time. After his 2pm meeting was finished, he called his driver, his destination Battersea.
“And you say you’ve kept dogs before, correct?”
“Family dogs, yes. This will be the first of my own, though,” he spoke to the girl showing him through the kennels there at the dog's home, Sean not impressed by the main variety of either gargantuan, hairy dogs, or small, yappy types.
“And how much time do you have to devote to its needs?”
“Plenty. I can take it to work with me so it isn’t alone during the day, save when I am in meetings. Suffice to say, the girls in my office will give it all the attention it needs when I am not present.” More dogs not to his liking passed by, the girl keen to stop and show him some kind of crossbreed chasing his tail in a circle when Sean moved to the next kennel.
There he was.
Sitting there upon a knitted blanket looking pissed off, his tail began to thump as he heaved himself up and trotted over, his lopsided underbite meaning a few of his teeth stuck out from under his floppy jowls, only one lower canine poking out prominently. That face. He was both handsome and hysterical, with the sticky out teeth.
“Hello, big lad,” he spoke, the dog sniffing his hand as his tail began to speed up. “Bored stiff, are you? I know the feeling.”
“So, this is Butch. Two years old, British Bulldog crossed with a Staffie, very well behaved but with a bit of a stubborn streak. He tends to sometimes be a little impulsive or has moments where he’ll only do things on his own terms or not at all, so he needs further training.”
Oh yes. Sean had found his dog. With a home check passed, a generous donation made to Battersea and a plethora of dog necessities bought, it was just over a week before Butch was sniffing around his new abode, finding a patch of dust and succumbing to the most hilarious multiple sneeze fit Sean had ever heard in his life.
“Fluff up the nose, fella?” he asked, Butch grunting at he looked up at Sean in an accusatory way, seemingly pissed off to have been laughed at. That only entertained his new human even more. “Shall we fire the cleaning lady? Come here, you have bits stuck on your teeth.”
Cleaning him up, he scratched the crinkles upon his head, Butch leaning into the fuss. He then ambled off, springing up onto the sofa, circling before lying down.
“Butch, get down. You’re not allowed up there.”
Grunt.
“Oi, get down, you ignorant twat.”
Grunt.
“Get down.”
Grunt.
He had to physically take him by the brand-new collar and gently steer him in the direction of the floor, the dog sitting at his feet as Sean took his place, resting his chin upon his knee with, yes, another grunt.
The no Butch on the sofa rule lasted all of three days. The no Butch on the bed rule five, Sean finding himself awoken every morning by the presence of a large head coming to rest upon his neck. And a grunt. Always a grunt. 5am was his new time to rise, taking Butch for his hour-long stroll before going to the gym, heading home to collect the dog and then taking him along to the office, where just as he’d predicted, he was always greeted warmly by the girls who worked there.
Warmly greeted and spoilt rotten.
“Where did you get that?” Sean asked, watching the dog come pottering in with a treat in his mouth, hanging from under his snaggle tooth. “Has Minnie been spoiling you again, hm?” The dog ambled to his bed, happily chewing away while Sean conducted his first meeting of the day, a Zoom call Catherine had told him he had to partake in between himself and a couple of associates, before he would be out to meet with Luan to concentrate on less above-board dealings.
“So, Catherine still has you by the balls?” the very Albanian himself asked, once their business had been concluded, walking along a narrow stretch of dockside where the clandestine meet had taken place.
Sean’s eyebrows fluttered momentarily, attempting to find a way to put a spin upon it that at least marginally saved face. “Somewhat.”
Luan snorted. “Bullshit. That woman will not stop with her venom. I know women like her well, my friend. Once wronged, they are like vipers. They will bite on hard and not stop until every drop of poison has seeped out.”
If there was a better analogy of the situation, he was yet to hear it. Sean couldn’t help but note the trace of obvious affection for their new overlord in his voice, though. Well, at least one of them found the execution of her retribution entertaining. “Kevin would be nothing but proud of her, that is for certain.”
“This is true,” Luan mused, scratching his beard. “He was the king of giving people what they wanted, but only on his terms.”
Oh, how she had inherited that well. While the two men walked back to their waiting cars, the topic of their discussion was strolling down the small, gravel topped pathway through Hanwell Cemetery, her destination the Cavanagh family crypt. Both her grandparents were in there, as well as a man she truly, and with such a raw, aching heart still, wished was not.
“Hello, daddy.” Her hand smoothed over the stone that interred his body, thumb stroking the white marble lovingly there in the crypt, Rin sighing as tears prickled her eyes. Twenty-five was truly no age to lose a parent.
Fuck cancer.
It was surprising to her, though, that it had been the mutation of cells which had sounded the death knell for her titan of a father, rather than a bullet or some other nefarious means of dispatch. “I know you said no fucking flowers, but I love the fucking flowers, so shut up. Happy birthday.”
She placed the single tiger lily down upon the cold marble, sniffing as she wiped her tears away with her other hand. They’d always been her favourite flower, Kevin often buying them for her on his way home, and roses for her mother. Diane was a sucker for a red rose, hence why Rin had a bunch of two dozen long stems in the car as a surprise. She knew his first birthday parted from them could be painful for her.
Her own pain washed a tide of grief through her insides all over again, Rin closing her eyes for a moment, her usual fortitude zapped away by the memory of losing him. It was still so fresh, only three months on. She then snorted laughing suddenly, remembering something crude, inappropriate and utterly hilarious he’d said in his final days.
“I’ve got to improve a little bit. I need to reach my sexy sixties, innit? Go and knob your mother one last time!”
“Dad!!”
She and her brother had nearly died. He was another whose presence she missed, Christopher up in Glasgow at university, wanting a life as far away from criminality as he could get himself. Her sisters, Georgie and Jess where also absent, both at boarding school, their parents thinking it best and safest in recent years, with how much of a turbulent battleground London had become, all things gang related.
That battleground had finally come to cease, with her leading it all, just as her father had helped her facilitate all that he could in his last months of life. “You’re tough, you’re mentally sharp as a razor, and you ain’t scared of shit. You’ll rise and stay risen, my girl. You ain’t no Sean fucking Wallace, ain’t about to fuck it all up without your old man there watching over you, like he did. You’ve bloody been arms dealing to some of the most formidable criminal fractions on this planet. Trust me, you’re a force to be reckoned with.”
While they shared their similarities, Rin was thankful that her father saw the clear distinction. Sean was not on her level. Not any longer.
Kissing her fingertips, she gently touched the marble. “Love you so much, dad.” Quickly checking her reflection in her power compact, she returned it to her handbag after making sure her face wasn’t tear stained, walking back out to her Range rover, where Sokoro was waiting for her. Luckily, the rest of her afternoon was planned to do something much more enjoyable than having to visit a crypt, to pay her respects to a man who should still have been there with her.
A short way across London, and Sean was up to his own enjoyable pursuit, taking Butch out for an afternoon at St James Park. It took forty minutes to drive there, but it was a large, open space the dog seemed to very much enjoy, so in Sean’s mind it was worth it. Plus, it was beautiful, a very relaxing surrounding to walk through. Certainly, it was much less noisy and metropolitan than Canary Wharf, too.
“Butch, don’t eat that. No... for fuck’s sake.” If it smelled good, he ate it, and to Butch, a discarded piece of sausage roll from British pastry giant Greggs was definitely worth snaffling as quickly as possible. “Look at the state of you now.” He brushed the crumbs from his dog’s face, entertained as ever at the single snaggletooth that stuck out.
“He’s so cute! Look at him and his tooth!” A young woman gushed upon approach, Butch immediately entering flirtatious mode, tail wagging, the rest of his body joining. “Aren’t you a lovely boy, eh? Look at you, awww!”
Sean smiled thinly while she made a fuss of Butch, asking all the usual questions. Age, breed, melting when she discovered he was a rescue.
“Oh! A rescue baby! What’s his story?”
His... what? Oh. The reason he came to end up in Battersea. “He was found as an unchipped stray.”
“Oh my goodness!” she squeaked in disbelief, lavishing a very content Butch with even more fuss. “I can’t believe someone let such a lovely dog go stray! He’s gorgeous, just like his dad.”
It was still something he was getting used to, the fact that his cute dog meant he now found himself engaged in small talk, something he’d never been all too fond of. He was so uncomfortable with the notion, the fact the woman had subtly been flirting with him before departing sailed right over his head.
“Jesus fucking Christ,” he moaned, shaking his head. “She meant me.” He closed his eyes; glad it was only his canine companion there to witness the shame of it warming his cheeks. “I’m losing my bloody touch.” Looking down at his dog, Sean smiled, watching him stare back intently, his soft ears flopped backwards. It was as if he understood every word. “Apparently, I’m your dad. I merely assumed to be your mate, if I’m honest.”
Woof.
“Oh, we’ve progressed from grunts to soft barks, have we?”
Woof.
“Shall we work on your recall? Would you like to retrieve this if I throw it?”
No barks followed him reaching into his pocket for a tennis ball, the dog instead pinging in a series of excited leaps. “No running off to hump bitches either. If I’m not getting any currently, then neither are you.”
He could improve upon that quite easily; he knew he could. For a start, he could take up the offer of going for after work drinks with some of the men who worked for him, rather than remaining aloof and sequestering himself within his office until late. That would mean being social with people he didn’t especially like, though.
Unclipping the lead from his harness, Sean watched Butch spring into action after hurling the ball across the grass, still contemplating his lack of human interaction. He knew in order to cure it, he had to be a little less standoffish and open himself up to the idea of building something of a meaningful life for himself. He would never be the suburban nine to five type, but there had to be some kind of happy medium for a man who walked the fine tightrope between businessman and gangster.
Building was what he did for a living; rebuilding his life surely couldn’t be that unattainable.
“Butch, come here!” he called, his dog becoming preoccupied by the presence of a pigeon. For once, rather than attempting to decimate the feathered critter, he listened, grabbing his ball and hurtling back across the grass, dropping into the outstretched hand awaiting him. “Good lad.”
While walking the path, his eye was caught by the back of a familiar head, Rin sitting upon a bench across the other side of the park with her mother, both deep in conversation. He considered approaching them, but knew his attempt to be cordial likely wouldn’t be received well by either woman, loathed by Diane and her daughter alike.
It was as Butch was running back again that he saw Rin stand, waving cheerily at a young child of around six years old who ran to her, the giant Sokoro walking along behind her, carrying a cardboard tray of hot drinks purchased from the nearby vendor.
His feet firmly rooted to the spot as he watched her pick up the little girl, smoothing her silky, strawberry blonde hair and placing a loving kiss to her head. Grasping on around her mother’s neck, her gaze found his, and they were his own eyes looking back at him.
In a heartbeat, a mere moment, his entire life had spun upside down.

I walked home carefully, sitting down to rest again the moment Sally was out of sight and letting my backpack sag to the ground, my shoulders sagging in relief. Not that I had much in it, but some days anything was too much and today had mostly been a good day even before I’d talked to Sally. One teacher had talked to me for a whole three minutes, which I’d taken as a good omen for tonight. Sally had been a shock; she hadn’t pressed me at all. I didn’t know why.
Thoughts whirred about like fireflies. I didn’t know much about her either. She didn’t much like school and ate alone, but beyond that nothing concrete. I was so busy thinking about it that I almost didn’t notice the van parked in the driveway. Mom and Dad’s cars were both parked, all outside lights were on in a waste of money mom would normally balk at. I moved closer. The van was for ‘Fireproof Locks’, a company that specialized in safes. But they had someone out here changing the locks.
Mom’s spare keys felt heavy in my bag. I breathed in. Out. Walked forward. The technician was an older, balding man who looked pleased over his probable overtime. Dad was talking at him, mom inside making their dinner. I walked forward. No one took notice as I moved past them inside. I went up the stairs slowly, and stopped. There was a padlock on the bedroom door.
I’d been careful. I know I had. I didn’t understand what Eugene Dockland had done. But I knew what had happened to me in some ways. Eighteen months, and somehow I’d screwed up enough for – for this. I sat down on the stairs. Mom and dad had supper. Watched TV. Tension between them, unvoiced. They went up to bed early.
I left before mom and dad got up, managing to get the front door on the third try. My arms and shoulders ached as I reached the road, but I didn’t know how much of that was normal tension and how much was guilt. My feet almost slid out from under me twice in the hour it took to get to school: other people would have made it in half the time at best. Part of me felt that I deserved to slip and fall, but I didn’t know what would happen if I did.
The future yawned before me, a dark void full of unseen teeth. I followed a janitor inside the school without really thinking, barely paying attention to any of my classes. If anyone talked to me, I didn’t notice them. I realized it was my last class only because everyone else had left, moving into the hallway by reflex.

18 . . . alfons main story
꒰ ִ ֺ ⊹ @ notice ⊹ ֺ ִ ꒱ this translation may not be 100% accurate or contain creative liberties due to characterization or narrative flow purposes. if you enjoy, please consider reblogging, but don’t repost these or claim these as your own!
꒰ ִ ֺ ⊹ @ please read ⊹ ֺ ִ ꒱ ok guys so i mistranslated something... i mistakenly thought [議員] (gi’in), the title they refer to for goa and co., referred to the privy council, but the more accurate translation would be something like member of the parliament. the privy council is [枢密院] (sūmitsuin). i’ve made some edits to previous chapters accordingly. sorry about that!
— cw: .. jelly alfons? :>
Parliamentary member Goa: ...Have those insolent twats who put out the fire of purification not been caught yet?
Lord Goa, with an air of irritation, tapped his blue ring against the desk.
As for the members of the purification club,
they were searching every nook and cranny for the people who had interfered with the fire that was to happen at the Docklands in hopes of eliminating them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Parliamentary member with round glasses: That... the large-scale plan notwithstanding, there were no witnesses present.
Parliamentary member with round glasses: Even when we questioned the residents in the vicinity, none could give a concrete answer...
Young parliamentary member: And even the people we employed for this had disappeared from the site...
Young parliamentary member: Furthermore, with the check to the front company also having vanished somewhere, perhaps it had been exposed by the police.
The ring on Lord Goa’s finger once again hit against the desk.
Parliamentary member Goa: ...Whoever they are, they have enough authority and power to rival our own.
Parliamentary member Goa: And it would appear that they will pose... a slight threat to our vision of a purified society.
???: ——I couldn’t agree more.
Upon hearing a voice resonate from behind, the members there turned toward it with looks of surprise.
Parliamentary member Goa: ...To what do we owe the pleasure, for a most respected member of the Privy Council to grace us?
Man of the Privy Council: Why such a cold greeting? And here I had some information that could perhaps be of some assistance to you.
The man’s gaze was sharp as he slowly sweeped the area with his eyes.
Man of the Privy Council: A little while ago... was there not ‘someone who shouldn’t have had access had infiltrated the premises’?
Parliamentary member Goa: ...I do have an inkling that such a thing happened.
Young parliamentary member: T-the employees at the hotel said there were two intruders. ...It was the first time it had ever happened  since the club was opened.
Man of the Privy Council: As I thought. It’s likely that the very people you seek are the same ones who have put a stain on England’s prosperity for around the past decade.
Man of the Privy Council: So? It would seem we share the same enemies... so what say you to joining arms and forming an alliance?
—— Scene change; Crown castle ——
Victor: Tadaaa! Tonight’s main dish is Victor’s one and only beef stew special!
In celebration — yet again — of stopping the fire that was going to spread in the Docklands, a dinner party was thrown.
Apparently, all the members of Crown were made to participate, seeing even Jude was here.
But...
Kate: Um, do you know where Alfons is?
Elbert: ...He went out a while ago, and he has yet to return.
Kate: Is... that so...
Elbert: .........
Victor: For the record, I also went out to look for him, as I was hoping I could have him try my special beef stew by any means necessary.
V: But he ended up slipping past me at every corner.
William: Hehe, it’s not every day you let something slip through your fingers like that.
Victor: Gosh, he just always slips away, you know, just like a cat. Not even security around here can stand half a chance.
Ellis: But you caught Jude.
Victor: That I did, though it very much hinged on the negotiation.
Harrison: I can only hope Her Majesty’s right-hand man doesn’t go abusing his power to spend money that’s not accounted for.
Victor: Worry not, Harrison, for I’m throwing out my pocket money!
Jude: And anyone with a workin’ brain cell’s gonna question how that cash made it to yer pockets.
William: I would recommend not looking into it any further.
I wasn’t sure whether they got along swimmingly or horribly, but regardless everyone in Crown was as lively as could be over dinner.
And usually, Alfons... and I would be there, laughing with them, but somehow today seemed to feel a little different.
(Everyone in Crown bears a tragic fate as a Cursed one, just like Alfons...)
Tumblr media
[1] And I felt the distance between us grow.
[2] I couldn’t help but feel down.
[3] If I were in their shoes... (+4 / +4)
Tumblr media
(If I were in their shoes... would I be able to understand a bit more what Alfons is going through?)
(...Or so I say, but aren’t I just proving that I don’t understand what they’re going through by wishing I could be in their shoes without batting an eye?)
It was just the thought that I couldn’t ever fully understand what they were going through, no matter what I did, frustrated me to no end.
Feeling the distance between us, and with hopelessness weighing on my heart——
Liam: Would you care for some roast chicken and salad, m’lady?
Liam appeared before me, acting the role of a top-class waiter,
as he brought me a plate with the chicken and salad, along with a spoon and fork.
Liam: Hehe, I tried. Anyway, here’s your portion, Kate.
Kate: ! Thank you so much, Liam. ...Oh my gosh, it looks so good...!
Liam: Right? Victor and the chefs are second to none here!
(I wonder if he noticed I was feeling down and was worried for me?)
It was as though his smile, so bright it was almost a bit blinding, wrapped its gentle light around the dark feelings that threatened to drown me.
His casual concern for me was proof that he carefully observed those around him.
Encouraged by Liam’s smile, I took a bite of the salad.
Kate: ...Mm, it is really good. Thanks again, Liam.
Liam: Oh, I didn’t do much. If you want to thank anyone, I think that should go to the chefs and Victor, right?
L: ...The one who can bring out your best smile isn’t me, after all.
Kate: Huh?
Liam: Nothing, I was just thinking how it’d be nice if you could fall in love with me, all that jazz.
Kate: Wait, what? Now that’s a bit far, even for cheering me up.
Harrison: What’s with you, Liam, trying to woo her like that?
Liam: Aha, looks like I can’t escape your eyes. Here you go, Harry, I’ve got your plate as well.
Listening to the conversations everyone had over this delicious dinner, I felt myself in a better mood.
(...That’s right. I’ve got better things to do than feel down at how much distance there is between us.)
(In fact, I already know what I want to do.)
(And to do that, I’ve got no choice but to take a step forward.)
I steeled a certain resolve in my heart, and as the end of the dinner party drew near——
Victor: Everyone, could I have your attention?
When Victor took a spoon and hit it lightly against the glass, the sound signaled a change of air in an instant.
Everyone’s eyes turned to Victor.
The silence seemed to thicken, beckoning the presence of the darkest night.
Victor: Regarding Lord Goa, member of the parliament, investigations have all nearly concluded. He is an influential figure and a member of the House of Lords——
V: And, he is without a doubt a pivotal figure in the ‘purification’ club.
William: The club itself comprises around a dozen parliament members.
W: And they hold the eugenic ideology that the people in the slums should be killed as they are inferior.
W: To fulfill that mission, they go undercover and conduct massacres on the impoverished, proclaiming it as an act of ‘purification.’
(...That’s just outright cruel...)
I had seen this coming, but when I actually thought about it,
the fact that there were people who would realize this baffled me.
Elbert: ...If such is the case, have they been condemned already?
William: That was the plan.
Victor: We did already make attempts to pass judgment on Lord Goa——but we weren’t able to do so.
Kate: What...!?
(They were unable to do so?)
Victor: He was absent from a meeting that he was supposed to take part in. And not only that, there wasn’t even a seat prepared for him there.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
William: Victor is Her Majesty the Queen’s right hand.
W: There is not a single piece of information that’s not clear in Her Majesty’s grasp. And likewise, Victor has quite a wide breadth of knowledge regarding any information.
W: And yet, we were given false information. All that to say——
Jude: There’s someone spoutin’ off false information to the Queenie.
Leaning back on his seat, Jude finished the statement.
Jude: N’ that someone’s gotta be close to her, or it woulda been off the table as a load o’ pork pie before it reached her.
Kate: No way... just who would do such a thing?
William: If they are able to handle the information of the House of Lords, I imagine this person would have a higher standing than them.
W: It would seem likely that a member of the Privy Council has some involvement.
Kate: ...The Privy Council...?
(Isn’t that...)
Kate: The Queen’s advisors... right?
Victor: Indeed. They’re formally known as ‘Her Majesty the Queen’s most honorable Privy Council.’
V: Ever since its founding, Crown has been a stain upon England in their eyes.
V: But Her Majesty herself supports Crown, so they cannot simply launch an attack on us, lest they risk committing treason.
V: That leaves them with three options. The first would be to present a complaint before Her Majesty.
V: The second would be to bring us to our downfall, thus driving Her Majesty to disband us.
V: And finally, the third option is——lending a hand to those who see us as an enemy, so they can eliminate us without having to stain their own hands.
Kate: ...So what you’re saying is they are lending a hand to the ‘purification’ club?
Victor: More likely than not.
(No way...)
Kate: There’s no way Her Majesty’s trusted advisors would lend a hand to an organization who would massacre innocent people...!
Victor: Well, getting rid of us would take precedence to them. They’d use any- and everything to get rid of a thorn on their side.
V: If they can get rid of us, the ‘purification’ club will also be discarded.
V: After all, if the pawns they use become an eyesore, they’ll just throw them away. That’s how they do things.
V: ——All that said, the things we do won’t change.
As Victor lowered his voice, his eyes swept over everyone in Crown.
Victor: You must not let your guards down, and take every chance you can get.
V: And as always, we will carry out our own evil.
William: As soon as we know more regarding the situation, we will assemble a meeting once again.
W: Until then, may each and every one of you carry out your evil deeds.
—— Scene change; hallway ——
Kate: ——Roger.
After dinner, I called out to the back that was about to leave the dining room.
Roger: Hey there. Looks like you’re not hung over anymore.
Kate: Yes, the medicine worked like a charm, so thank you for that. ...And, um, I have something I’d like to talk to you about.
Roger: Well now, is that so? Then let’s hear it.
I let out the breath I had been holding before looking up at Roger’s face.
Kate: Ever since I heard about Alfons’ fate... I’ve been thinking.
K: If it’s not too much trouble, could you let me help you find a way to change the fates of the Cursed ones?
Roger: ...Let’s move somewhere else.
The place he took me to was the empty lounge.
Roger: Now then. First things first, what’s gotten you into this?
As he sat on the sofa, I faced Roger and opened my mouth once more.
Kate: ...I don’t want to forget about Alfons.
(Roger has been looking for a way to change their tragic fates for a long time now.)
(So I know just how hard it would be to find such a way...)
Kate: If... there really is a possibility they can escape their tragic fates, somewhere or anywhere,
K: and if there’s really a way I can remember, then I would do anything to know!
K: Because then, I’m sure if we know such a method... I won’t have to forget about the person I like.
K: Besides, Alfons, too...
So that he doesn’t leave behind a blank space that can never again be filled in someone’s heart,
he didn’t linger around in any one place nor form connections with others, keeping what was in his heart locked away.
Kate: I’m sure when that time comes when he wants the person he truly likes to remember him——
K: He won’t have to feel like he has to push them away, right?
(If at all possible, though, I would have wished for that person to be me.)
(After all, I... I had fallen head over heels for him.)
(But, even if that person was someone other than me... at the very least, I hope he can someday find happiness with them.)
Not in the confines of a convenient illusion, but rather in this reality.
Roger: A way to escape their tragic fates, huh...
Narrowing his eyes, Roger stroked his chin.
Kate: ...Yes.
Roger: There are some newspaper articles, case documents that were snatched from the police and what have you regarding inexplicable events.
R: Oh, and there are patient records in there too.
Kate: ...And all of those are related to the ‘Cursed ones’?
Roger: Yeah. Especially for the ‘Mirror,’ the records from the royal family are almost all blank, so that’s why there’s a lot where those came from.
R: If we take a good look through the past documents one more time, we might be able to find something new.
R: I had always set my sights on the Cursed ones themselves,
R: but I can’t say I’ve read much through the lens of ‘whether people remember or not.’
Kate: ...!
Hearing those words, I felt a small ray of hope.
Roger: Well, all that said, we might come up as empty handed as we are now.
Kate: And that’s completely fine. So let’s look together!
Roger: Count me in. I’m free up until whenever we’re having another meeting about the ‘purification’ club.
R: And since we’re looking up stuff about Cursed ones, I’m pretty sure this would count as doing your job as fairytale keeper too.
Roger raised a closed fist, extending it before me.
Roger: But since it’s already pretty late today, we’ll be diving in tomorrow if we’re doing this.
Kate: Roger that!
With that, I bumped my own fist lightly against his.
Then the next day rolled over, and when we finished breakfast, Roger and I were heading to the basement when——
Alfons: Oh?
It would seem Alfons had just returned to the castle, and so we happened to run into each other.
Kate: Ah... w-welcome back.
Roger: Hey there, Al.
Seeing him, I remembered how we had parted ways after I was told that I was ‘a nuisance,’ and my heart made an unpleasant sound.
Alfons: Well I’ll be, are you on your way to a most friendly outing, the two of you?
Kate: Ah, no, we’re...
Roger: What, curiosity got you piqued?
When I tried to deny his claims in a panic, though, Roger wrapped his arm around my shoulder.
Kate: Roger!? What are you doing—
Roger: Alright then, let me fill you in. We’re gonna be spending the whole entire day holed up in a locked room, just the two of us. Let’s get along now, yeah?
(Wait a minute, with the way you’re acting and talking, Alfons will end up getting the wrong idea...!)
Alfons: Oh my, is that so? It would appear you’ve found yourself a lovely playmate while I was not around. I’m happy for you, Miss Kate.
Kate: ...
Seeing him so indifferent toward all this, my heart, already broken, now throbbed more in pain.
He spared a single side glance before Alfons tried to leave.
(It’s not as though I wanted to make him jealous. But...)
—— Flashback ——
Alfons: ——I see you don’t really hold that thing called ‘love’ for me.
—— End flashback ——
(I would hate it if those words actually end up becoming the truth to Alfons.)
Kate: Alfons...!
Alfons: ? Yes, what is it?
Kate: ...I still very much like you.
Alfons: ...Come again?
Roger: ......... [surprised]
(I don’t want him to get the wrong idea.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Kate: Even if this all amounts to a nuisance to you... this is the ‘truth’ for me, so.
Alfons: .........
Kate: Okay, we’re going, Roger.
I felt if I looked at Alfons any longer, my heart would hurt so much I could hardly bear it...
and, as though running from that pain, I ran down the staircase to the basement.
Alfons: .........
Roger: Pfft, haha... I feel like I haven’t seen you so dumbfounded in forever.
to be continued…

The depression chronicles continues #2 (part 1 in my new green notebook)
21 Jun 2024 - Friday
Man there's so much to document all the time. Today felt low and painful - very low energy, a dread flowing through my brain-body, and a lump in my gut all day. I have so many theories as to why but I don't want to write all of it down now.
I'm judging where I'm at, why I have these feelings. I'm speaking to myself of anxieties of leaving Melbourne and going back to sg in two weeks, and of not being good enough for Ronnie's wedding emcee because I'm so slow and behind and not invested, and of having to answer my parents about my time here, about my continued failure, about not having much time left of my year abroad.
It occurs to me these judgements and anxieties are just adding and adding and adding to my woes. Of course my body feels low and defeated. I'm judging myself for my inactivity rather than sitting with it and understanding it. I'm not genuinely proud of my accomplishments today (cooking lunch, managing to eat dinner, starting on my RSA, grieving / learning to stop talking to Hemant, making tea in the morning, showering, putting away my laundry).
I'm feeling my heart ectopics again for the first time since I left sg. I guess the fear is real, the dread is eating me up. Maybe. Could be a correlation though.
Perhaps what I need is to really spend quality time with myself every other day. To sit and be, and soothe. Bc that helped a little bit on Monday and Wed(with reis) , and definitely last Tuesday at the docklands.
I think a lot of it is that I'm not happy with how slow progress is towards my short and long term career goals. There are multiple goals though and I'm working towards both. Maybe tomorrow I write down what those goals are and be more smart goals about them. Focus on the bigger picture rather than the small. Yeah. That's what I'll do.
Plan:
10am wake up
1.5h to flick through phone, brush teeth out on clothes, make breakfast and eat breakfast
1130am grab a pen and book and start writing in simple terms the short term and the longer term goals for career. Then pen down in bullet points what the sub goals have been
12pm take break, maybe call my mom and dad?
1:30pm eat kichidi for lunch
3pm start getting ready, go to Roslyn and get cakes for Victoria house
4pm reach Vic house and remember to ask abt the migration person contact

Day 39
Modern Tokyo
A trip down to Koto City where Tokyo meets the sea was like visiting the Docklands in London - a little soulless and very un Japanese but it was where the large Teamlab Planets exhibition was being held and a fun opportunity to get on our first Japanese bus.
The show itself was mixed but a fun family experience after which we took a very crowded bus back up towards Tokyo proper to spend the afternoon in Ginza.
This only felt marginally more Japanese, a district full of western brand stores like Sloane St or Bond Street.
We had a great set lunch at the Muji flagship store and then browsed a few stores including peeking into the Art Aquarium. A respite in Hibiya (Japans first western style park) before heading back to the hotel to shower and rest.
While the kids did a workout Dea and I enjoyed a great sunset beer and photo shoot on the roof enjoying the sounds of a gripping local baseball game that ended 11-10 to the local Yakuma Sparrows team.
Dinner ended up being convenience store goods that were surprisingly good after we failed to find an affordable, local restaurant that was open, had space and looked appealing.
