🤝🫶 actually curious for both ships :D
🤝: How did they meet in the first place? What was there first impression of each other?
Lo/Doc Ock:
They met in battle, lmao. Lo-as-Luminous was called for backup by Spidey, and proceeded to have the absolute shit scared out of her. She was not prepared for Doc Ock to be that large or the actuators to be that imposing.
Their first proper conversation would actually happen months later, but what a hell of a first impression. You can read it here!
Miss Naomi/Sportacus:
Naomi runs the library on Lullaby Lane, which has a... lackadaisical relationship with space and other places. She walked to Lazytown the first time basically because that was the way the road went that day, and once she arrived the route sort of "locked in".
Interestingly, between her wide-brimmed hat and ever-present parasol, the neighborhood kids actually mistook her for a witch at first. ("What kind of witch wears all blue?") Sportacus had to be called in when Robbie roped Naomi into his latest scheme, also thinking she was a witch ("No, seriously, where are you getting this from?!") and she wasn't able to diffuse the situation on her own.
🫶: Who ended up falling first? Which of them actually realized that they’d fallen in love first?
Doc Ock x Luminous:
Lo crushed first, but Doc Ock fell in love love first. In this verse, rather than dying in the accident that caused him to become Doc Ock, his wife Rosie was "the one who got away" - someone he regrets never really trying for in college, so she's alive but somewhere else and not his wife. (We don't demonize canon women for ships in this house.)
Doc Ock fell for her because she was passionate and kind, even in the thick of the AI controlling his brain. It only got more pronounced when he was finally freed from it - but Lo never noticed, because she was busy telling herself his flirtations were making fun of her.
Lo was aware of her crush the entire time, though. It was exhausting.
Miss Naomi/Sportacus:
Sportacus was infatuated first, but they fell in love at about the same rate. What's interesting is that Sportacus met Naomi after the majority of her personal growth - had he met her before, the romance would have been a lot more mismatched, because she was not ready to let herself love anyone.
Sportacus knew how he felt way before Naomi, but was shockingly patient about it given his go-go-go attitude. It was always Naomi making the next move, opening up, and expressing things first - and sometimes she would realize what she was saying as she was saying it. It was sweet, but also very funny.

Inconvenient Attraction - for doc ock
Everything was so important and so stupid, but this was particularly stupid.
Luminous was ducked into the crevice under a bridge, catching precious breaths as she tried to process the events of the last twenty minutes. Overhead she could hear the thump-chk-thump of those... things hitting concrete and finding purchase as if it were ice beneath snow cleats, the kind with spikes that always unnerved her at utility shoe stores.
He was overhead, looking for her and the weird suitcase she'd managed to snatch from him. It was an effective if half-baked plan. Step one, which was to take the thing he was stealing and lure him away from civilians, had worked like a dream.
She did not have a step two. Normally Luminous was better about this, but between the very short notice (Spidey ringing her literally minutes into the event while he was managing some eloquent dinosaur-thing that was terrorizing a different building) and her own distraction, she found herself off-balance while trying to combat her new opponent.
Thunk. Chunk.
"I know you're here," a deep and deceptively pleasant voice called from above, "why don't you come out so we can properly introduce ourselves?"
He also threw her off-balance in general.
She'd heard of Doc Ock before, but the Daily Bugle did nothing to communicate the sheer size of him. He'd scared the shit out of her when she stepped into the building he was robbing and, confronted, risen to his full height with those four things splaying out around his shoulders. Spidey's voice was still in her shitty earpiece then, but she barely heard him as her heart dropped into her stomach. Jesus Christ on a bicycle, he was huge.
He'd flashed a toothy, lopsided smile at her - "Well, who might this be?" - and chaos had erupted.
She could still hear that smile now as he kept speaking overhead.
"You know, that was pretty impressive work I saw back there. Maybe you could give me a better demonstration of how those powers work, hm?" Flattery or taunting? It was hard to tell. Either way she pulled herself into the crevice a little tighter - she'd warp away to hide the suitcase before dealing with him, but there was nowhere she could see, and therefore nowhere for her to go, but down into the churning water below.
The initial fight had been a clusterfuck. She'd been expecting the limbs but wasn't ready for the height, and the shock gave him the opening for an early strike. She'd barely dodged (and he'd ripped her freaking mantle), and from there -
if she was being honest, it wasn't so much a fight as it was a flail. His four extraneous limbs would not give her an opening to get close and land a good punch, which was what she needed because he swatted away her crystal conjures like scattering flies.
She had managed to back him outside while a tangle of limbs and flashes of light struggled to find purchase with each other, and then, in a fit of sudden overstimulation, she'd just... grabbed the suitcase and ran.
"What's going on over there?" She'd heard Spidey in her ear. "I told you you'd be able to take him!"
"You told me he was a scientist, not that he was some goddamn eldritch Goliath!"
She'd heard him laugh back there when she said that. It was a deceptively nice sound.
Luminous had run for quite a few minutes, still shouting to Spidey between jumps, turns and dives. Colossus, titan, behemoth and homunculus were also all tossed out somewhere in her breathless ranting while she sprinted, platforms beneath her feet lifting her over traffic and giving her the slightest head start.
In truth, he was probably a perfectly reasonable six feet and some spare inches; but between the four extra limbs (suddenly "Doc Ock", a name she'd laughed at before, sounded deeply threatening) and her own compact stature, he loomed over her like the shadow of some eldritch monster. Hadn't he been a respected nuclear physicist? Had he been able to get people to go near him back then when he looked like a goddamn-
"There you are, dear."
Oh, fuck.
A red light stared at her from where it curved over the bridge. She shot out a blast, hitting it square in the face, and it retreated. As she tried to pull herself from her hiding spot to stand on the air beneath, however, three more emerged to peer at her before grasping onto the concrete. Should have called himself Hydra, she thought, if the name wasn't already taken. Doctor Hydra?
It didn't matter. She took several steps back as the doctor pulled himself down - seemingly undisturbed by gravity, he remained perfectly upright in his descent, pausing only to glance at her feet with nothing beneath them, several feet above the water.
"That's an interesting trick." His attention turned to her - and he dove. She jumped out of the way of swinging arms, careful to direct herself away from her hiding place where the suitcase waited behind a concrete pole. His attention was, thankfully and unfortunately, all on her - her fists connected with claws and sent them in recoil before they reared back, something he seemed to regard with mild surprise as two of the other three reared up to take its place.
Diving, weaving, jumping - it was a mess of movement stopped only when one of the claws managed to grab her by the front. Two others stilled (the third holding him up in midair) and anchored him tight to the bridge, while the one under her arms and pressed to her stomach started to retract.
For a second she expected the thing to try to crush her. Instead she was dragged closer to the doctor, who had grown surprisingly still. He was scrutinizing her, she realized as the distance between them closed for the first time that day. He held her slightly overhead and, now that they were at eye level with each other, she could properly see his face. He had that disarmingly lopsided smile, strong nose and a pair of shockingly nice brown eyes, looking up at her from behind those inscrutable sunglasses. There was a slight twinkle to them.
Everything was so, so stupid.
"Hello, dear," he said, and her heart stuttered. Luminous swallowed.
"I'm in trouble."
"Yes," he said as a clawed thing lifted and aimed for her, "you are."

"So what's the plural of Octavius? Octaviuses? Octavii? Octaviodes?" "I should have dropped you from the roof when I had the chance." "But you didn't!"
Sometimes Luminous gets to be the annoying one.

Ock to Lo: "You handled that a lot better than expected"
Lorelei's New Year's Resolution was fairly simple - cut back on the snarking.
It was easy to fall into; everyone back home quipped through conversations like it was going out of fashion, and she found herself being defensively sarcastic any time somebody questioned her choices in aesthetic, strategy, even her name. It kept her safe - but it also kept people away, which was counter-intuitive at best.
That didn't seem to be the case here. It was New York, of all places, and yet people seemed more inclined to wear their heart... perhaps not on their sleeve, but on their arm at least, with the sleeve rolled up enough for a glimpse of what lay beneath. She couldn't continue as things were, because she didn't want to hurt people and didn't want to just be a defensive asshole, instead of a reasonably defensive asshole.
And so she'd promised herself not to quip, at least not unless she thought it'd make the other person laugh, and instead respond sincerely where she could.
It was hard. It was hard and scary to be open, to even risk being vulnerable after the last decade of hero work. Luminous was an airtight suit of armor, a mask that kept things out as well as in - she was lonely, but she was safe.
And so here she was, listening to Doctor Octopus Octavius speak -
"You handled that a lot better than expected."
- And she had to respond sincerely. Luminous took a breath.
"What makes you say that?" Okay, still distant, but better than whatever witticism she was going to say on reflex. The doctor looked at her behind opaque goggle lenses, and his thin frown did little to betray his thoughts.
"You know perfectly well what I'm referring to."
He was looking down at her, because he always was, but this time he'd knocked her onto her back after a rather lengthy tussle between herself and all six of his limbs that were swinging at her.
Tritium had been the prize of the day, and she'd managed to wrestle it from him at the last second and toss it to Spider-Man. The web-slinging hero was already bringing it back to where it belonged, and the doctor would probably be giving chase, if not for her powers keeping his actuators planted firmly to the ground in grips of faint gold light.
That was probably what he meant just then.
It was rare for her to have the advantage like this, but she knew if she tried to move even one of them, or even herself, her concentration would break and he'd be free. Best to just... engage in conversation.
"Well, I tend to do a lot better once I get my bearings."
"I see." And then he was - oh, he could still move the limbs, just not the claws at the end, so he was kneeling down to meet her at eye level. Not that it helped - unlike his sunglasses, the goggles were impenetrable, so the fact that he was probably making eye contact did nothing to put her at ease.
Honestly, it was probably worse.
"Have you always had trouble getting your bearings before? The last time I saw you..."
"You don't have to remind me." He'd grabbed her with the claw, she'd broken free, failed to catch herself and fallen ass-first into the river beneath them. Her only comfort was he didn't find the damn suitcase, and Spidey had managed to retrieve it - and get in a well-meaning laugh as she wrung herself out, just for good measure. "I was having an off-day."
His lips pulled into that lopsided smile, and her grip on the claws tightened just to keep from reflexively going lax. He was handsome, but that wasn't a reason to be stupid.
Again.
"I see. Well, glad to see you back on your feet." Luminous frowned from her place on the floor, though it was somewhat mitigated by the mask covering the bottom half of her face. As it was, he could probably only see the furrow of her brow and angry eyes staring back up at him.
"You have to let me go eventually, you know." His elbows were propped on his knees, and despite the situation he seemed to be... amused, even enjoying himself. "And I have the feeling that's going to happen sooner rather than later."
"And what makes you say that?" Okay, so thinking of intelligent things to say on the spot was hard without the quipping.
"Well, you're still down here, aren't you?" That damn smile again. "I don't think you can get up, not without letting me go."
Dammit. Luminous kept staring at him. His smile persisted.
"I thought so. Now," he said, and offered a hand, "please, Miss Luminous, let me help you up."
Oh, he just didn't play fair.

"If I'm being honest, I'm actually really bad at catching when somebody's genuinely into me. You could hit me over the head with it and I still wouldn't get the hint-ouch!" "Harry!" Lo heard the doctor hiss at one of his actuators as it recoiled behind her, "That was completely uncalled for!" "Especially since she just said that wouldn't work," Spidey added. Lo rubbed her head, wondering what joke she was missing.
Still having fun.

Geeky Turn-On, you know the ship.
This was... uncomfortable.
Luminous was not here to witness the doctor's work on the... thing. (It had been explained to her, but god help them all if she could process anything beyond "mini-sun" and "renewable energy"). She was not here to stop him from adding more chunks and pieces, nor was she here to witness his actuators work in tandem with him as he welded, twisted, scrutinized and sorted all these different pieces and form them into something alien yet coherent.
She was not present to witness any of this... because Lorelei Snow, rushing between jobs and minding her own fucking business on a Tuesday, had been the one he'd randomly grabbed as hostage to lure Spider-Man in. Lo was just kind of chilling out, tied to a nearby chair, watching in dumbfounded silence.
She could transform, yeah, but why give him the information? More importantly, why grant him the satisfaction? He was already unbearable when he caught Luminous off-guard normally.
(This was all the time. She forgot how tall he actually was constantly, and he never stopped finding it funny.)
That smirking, cheeky son of a bitch was not the doctor in front of her now. Instead Lorelei just watched as he and his four actuators worked, moving with coordination she might have envied when she was still taking dance classes. It was like... well, he was a well-oiled machine, wasn't he? And he seemed completely at ease as he worked, almost somber in his dedication to the inscrutable task before him.
Despite herself, she scooted a little closer. One of the actuators stopped and stared at her, but the doctor did not follow suit. After a moment, the red eye looked away and returned to its task of holding a piece of metal in place, even as she craned her neck a little bit to see what he was doing on the desk before him.
No good - still too far away. She scooted a little closer.
Now he did look up. Googles resting on his forehead, she was honestly startled by how big his eyes were - big and deeply troubled, doing by the delicate lines etched into the skin below. It was fascinating, how much of a difference the sunglasses made-
Wait, he was saying something.
"Sorry, could you repeat that?"
"Is there something you need from us?" His tone was low, but it was hard to tell if it was a threat or just disinterest. She shrugged as much as she could in her binds.
"Just curious. There really isn't anywhere to look around here." When was Spidey getting here? She needed him to knock her into the water so she could be "miraculously" teleported away right before Luminous made her entrance. The doctor stared at her, eyes questing for some hint of lie, and found none. He looked down at his work again.
"I don't suppose you know what you're seeing."
"Oh, not at all, but it looks cool." Idiot. There was a small tug at the corner of his mouth as he looked back down - dammit, as if his ego needed more feeding.
...It did look cool, though.
"...So what is it?" Eyes back up at her. One actuator was holding something - a lit match - and held it up to him as the doctor lifted a cigar to his mouth. It caught with a low smolder, and then the doctor took it out again to blow out the match, a cloud of billowing smoke spilling from his lips like some strange dragon.
Lo sucked in a breath. She hoped he'd assume it was from nerves.
He was looking at her again.
"...It's part of the containment field," he said after a moment, "to hold the entire machine in place. Without it, the machine would collapse in on itself."
"Oh, so it's, like, the foundation piece?" An eyebrow raised. What was she doing? She wasn't even sure if this counted as playing dumb, she just felt stupid. "Like in building a house, you know?" Not better.
"...I suppose so." With that, he pulled his goggles back on and returned to his work - and Lo, after a cursory glance around for Spider-Man, watched him.
She could wait a couple more minutes.

I feel like geeky turn on would work pretty well with luminous & ock 🤣🤣
So there definitely needs to be a third section to this, but I wanted to post what I had and come back to it later because I’m visiting my sister out of town and I cannot guarantee how much more writing I’ll do right this minute. Watch this space.
In the meantime, enjoy!
——
“You should really switch to wool, you know.”
“What?” It was a reasonable response; Luminous and the Doctor were standing some five feet from each other, both catching their breath from a failed spar, when she’d spoken up unprompted. It didn’t matter at all, but it had been really bugging her.
“Your sweater.” She gestured to the garment in question - a stray blast from his latest attempt at firing the generator thing had struck him head-on, and now there was a smoldering hole right along the left side of his front, protected only by the leather of his trench coat. “The way it’s pilling at the edges of the hole there? Not good. Wool’s better.”
“What are you talking about?” She expected him to strike at her with one of the actuators (finally learned the word for those), but instead he looked at his sweater and ran a startlingly large hand over the hole. “I fail to see why that matters.” The pilling crumbled under his fingertips, ugly and cheap. She frowned behind her mask.
“You’re a scientist, aren’t you? You should know material’s important. Whatever synthetic wool you’re wearing now is at least a third plastic - it’s super bad for the environment when you wash that stuff, and it’s, like, falling apart under your hand.” Why was she still talking about this? To keep him from losing his shit about the machine being down again? “Real wool is super flame-retardant,” oh, she was gonna keep going, cool, “you basically have to hold it right over a fire the entire time to make it burn, it can’t really retain it on its own. Better for… not setting yourself on fire, or like, inhaling plastic fumes. … because that’s plastic.”
He was being uncomfortably silent the entire time, and when the doctor looked up - goggles down - a single, ridiculously bushy eyebrow raised at her. Good lord, they were thick enough to rival hers.
A chunk of the reactor fell down some six feet from them. Luminous tensed, ready for anger, but it didn’t come. He was still just… looking at her.
“… I’ll keep it in mind,” Doc Ock said, and looked like he was gearing to add something else when red flashed through the ceiling above them. The actuators roared to life at the sight of Spider-Man, and Luminous straightened up, sighing. Well, it was weird while it lasted.
——-
“I’d like to hear more about that plastic you mentioned.”
“What?” For once Luminous was getting somewhere, if standing on and dancing between two actuators could count as that; it seemed today was all about the Goblin who was going head-to-head with Spidey, and the good doctor was merely along for the ride, perhaps to reap some undetermined prize for himself. Spidey had pointed Luminous in his direction (“dude, stop pairing me off with him, he’s exhausting!”) and now she was mostly just trying to keep him preoccupied.
Guess she was doing a better job than she thought.
“The plastics in that sweater. You mentioned something about the environment.” Swing! She jumped down from one actuator to another as a third tried to grab her; still not close enough for a punch, but she was getting better at dodging. It rippled beneath her feet, but she kept aloft. “I was curious as to why, seeing as I’m not one to just throw sweaters into the ocean.” Was this bait? There was no way he didn’t know this - wasn’t he some Nobel Prize-nominated science hotshot, once upon a time?
Another dodge and she was on the ground, shields up while looking for another way in and ignoring just how up he was compared to her.
Good lord, she’d never get used to his six-foot-fuck-off figure. Even if he had traded the cheap, burnt sweater for a much nicer black one, one that fit better as well-
You know what, maybe she did need distracting.
“You don’t have to,” she said, taking two steps back as he approached, then warping behind and slightly to the left of him. One actuator had been ready for her, and she dodged it barely in time before the other three were on the defense. He hadn’t turned around, head turned, one curious eye visible behind dark lenses. “It breaks apart in the washing machine. They’re super hard to filter out of the water, even with the really good systems, so it’s safer to just go for natural fibers. Stuff like cotton, linen, wool, silk. Those fibers are way easier to clean up and don’t fall apart so easily.”
“I see.” He turned all the way, then, and she took her opening to lunge at him. An actuator caught her in the back, and Doctor Octavius lifted Luminous up to face level, where she dangled like a captured kitten. He smiled at her, and god it was frustrating that she couldn’t see his eyes, and lifted a hand…
To tap her on the nose. She tried to swing at him, but the actuator pulled back, and flexing her back muscles did little to dissuade it from its hold on her. The doctor clicked his tongue at her in teasing disapproval, the smile never leaving his face.
“You know quite a bit about textiles.”
“Everybody needs a hobby.” Or a career, but if it were up to her he’d never even suspect there was anything behind the mask. In the moment, however, the doctor seemed to ponder her answer. The actuator holding her pulled back from him, and for a second she thought he might even put her down…
… until she was tossed quite unceremoniously into the air.
Fuck this guy, actually.

🦅💕😑 for both ships again!
🦅: How good are their friends at being wingmen? Do they even help at all or just sit back watching the pining with a bag of popcorn?
Doc Ock x Luminous:
They have exactly one person in common and it's Spidey. He is so on board because, honestly, he needs something happy in his life and they're both really good allies post-movie (Ock lives in this verse) and like... he's trying. He is. But calling attention to the very obvious energy between them kind of makes things worse for a long while.
Miss Naomi x Sportacus:
So the kids in Lazytown do not notice what's going on until they do, but one very funny wingman is Robbie. It only lasts an episode - his logic was that "Sportaflop" wouldn't be able to save the day if he was distracted in love, promptly disproved by both when his alarm went off and both rushed to help - but he was actually pretty effective at orchestrating time for them to be alone, which they mostly spent talking and working up the nerve to ask each other out.
On Naomi's side, her library (yes it's alive) had a weird tendency of locking Sportacus in whenever he visited, but only when Naomi was also inside. It's not subtle about it.
💕: Who confessed first and how? Did it go as planned or did shenanigans ensue?
Doc Ock x Luminous:
Shockingly, Ock did. It was post-movie, when he'd finally gotten a new inhibitor chip and was able to think clearly. Learning he'd been under the control of an AI really messed with Lo, and basically threw every interaction, especially the flirting, into question.
She'd essentially tried to avoid him for weeks after that, feeling confused and guilty, until he finally got her to talk with him while cleaning up the remains of the machine. That was when she explained how confused and conflicted she felt, because if he was controlled by an AI, how much of that was real? And his response was that was the only thing that was real, the one thing the actuators didn't push him to do. And he didn't want to lose any chance at still knowing her when he was finally free to do so as himself.
They had their first proper kiss that night.
Miss Naomi x Sportacus:
Another surprise, but it was Naomi! Sportacus knew he was in love with her way early into their friendship, (elves are just kind of like that), but he also just enjoyed the process of getting to know her and finding more things to love.
Naomi, meanwhile, was pretty fresh out of a journey of self-actualization and finding herself in the wake of delayed but immeasurable grief, so her experience with love was a bit more rocky. It wasn't that she didn't want to fall in love, it's that she didn't know that's what was going on. Her life had essentially been on pause for the last decade, so piecing herself back together was an ongoing process.
Anyway, she figured it out in the middle of the night while talking to the library and her companion puppet, Ragamonster, who's also alive. She spent a week trying to find the right words to say to him before settling on her usual strategy - being indirect while thinking she was being direct.
Sportacus got a lot of oranges for a couple weeks before realizing she was trying to flirt with him.
😑: How easily do they get jealous and how do they handle it?
Doc Ock x Luminous:
So the funny thing is both get jealous, and handle it very differently; Doc gets territorial while Luminous gets self-conscious. Otto tends to become much more aggressively flirty and hands-on when he's making a point - not to the point of being threatening, but enough that the back off is heard loud and clear.
Lo, meanwhile, tries to improve herself - styling her hair, dressing more provocatively - and Otto has to scoop her up and dote on her until she's reassured that she's the only one for him.
Neither ever takes it out on the other, though. That's not the kind of relationship they have.
Miss Naomi x Sportacus
This is such a complete non-issue it's not even funny. Naomi trusts Sportacus too much to ever get jealous and, like, the absolute biggest risk is Robbie getting roped into a sickeningly sweet throuple. There is zero concern about potential rivals for their affection on either side.

for Naomi x Sportacus and Lorelei x Doc Ock:
"What would their song to each other be?" and "How did they know they were right for each other?"
So going with Lo/Doc Ock first for a change:
Their song is definitely something a bit older, considering Otto's... well, a bit older. Otto prefers Sinatra, while Lo likes the sort of stuff her dad used to play on the radio when she was a kid. Her pick would be "Time After Time" as covered by Tara Morice.
As for how they knew? It was... not really a particular moment, so much as a gradual feeling over time. After the initial confession from Otto, they dated for a while, and slowly realized that... yeah, they wanted to keep this, the laughter and the strange science conversations and having no clue what the other is talking about and the slow-dancing at 2 AM to Sinatra. This was something special.
(Although Lo realized when she woke up next to him one night and found herself feeling safer than she had in years. That was also special.)
Alright, now the other two.
Naomi's song for Sport is "Overjoyed" by Matchbox 20. Sportacus can't really pick a song, because he never really cared about love songs before falling for them. Now all love songs just make him think of Naomi.
... Weirdly enough, they figured it out because of mud. One of Robbie's plans had resulted in a lot of sports equipment ending up in the mud after a long rain. Naomi and Sport were busy grabbing everything and bringing it out - none of the kids wanted to, because it was too messy - and he accidentally splashed her by stepping too hard on a puddle. She gave him a long, quiet glower... and then splashed him back.
It devolved into a full-blown mud fight, both of them laughing their heads off, before Naomi slipped and fell in the mud. Sport tried to catch her, but she ended up pulling him down right next to her. They both just devolved into a fit of laughter, and both had the same thought -
I could do this every day.
