Rereading the Dante and Lucia section of the DMC5 novel and man is it sad as hell. They had a nice reunion after Dante returned from hell but after that he kept her at a distance. He feels bad, but he’s scared she’ll get hurt if he gets too close just like with most people really. Like he was kind to her when they went after barlog and was more than happy to help an old friend it’s clear he really cares about her and he feels bad but yeah he’s scared of people getting hurt.

And it’s another example of how Dante deals with his depression and how he’s such a realistic portrayal of it. How he isolates himself from people which is common w/ depression to isolate themselves for one reason or another and I honestly just find him super relatable.

I can’t really blame him for all this considering what happened in the first novel. He lost everyone important to him for the second time simply because he’s who he is, a son of sparda. Who wouldn’t be terrified of other people they care about dying?

It just sucks for both Dante and Lucia, I hope once Dante leaves hell with Vergil maybe he won’t be so afraid of being close to people anymore and he can get the help he needs. He’s such a sweetheart he deserves to be surrounded by the people he loves.

DMC week day 3 - underappreciated character! I will take any chance I have to draw Lucia because honestly she's growing on me more and more (just like dmc2 as a whole). I think her concept and design are really damn cool (AND THAT BEAUTIFUL AND UNIQUE DT GAWD DAMN) and I WIIIIIISH she got another chance to shine QwQ Sidenote - I really like how this piece came out. I think I'm getting a better hang of anatomy finally (especially hands that I practically don't struggle with anymore >:3) and in general I like how Lucia looks here. Overall - pushed through the ugly phase and we're back in the good zone again lol, my simplified animation style really is working good for those simple illustrations! I can't wait to make something more detailed again though haha

Humanity is obviously a central theme to DMC, but I have yet to see anyone mention how every single character within DMC is connected to each other with loss. I'd love to see a fanfic or even simple headcanons explore two or more characters' bonds over shared loss, especially ones that seem a bit odd.

Please, I beg to see Dante and Nico interact and see bits of Nell in each other. You guys, Nico and Trish bonding over demonology and devil arms, especially angus's research.

Idk how, but bring in Beryl. Have her relate to Lady over the overlaps and differences between their families. Beryl's dad went insane and died after possessing demonic power in an attempt to revive his late wife. While arkham killed his wife to possess demonic power and went insane and died. Not only that, they're both human devil hunters and have cool big ass guns.

(Ik Trish and Lucia dont out right lose family like most of the cast, but they still do experience loss. For Trish, it's her home and everything she knew until she left with Dante. In Deadly Fortunes, it's stated that she dedicates a lot of time to studying devil arms and demonology because she misses the underworld. For Lucia, she doesn't lose anyone, but she does have a loss of self after finding out she's a demon. Yall its a bit insane but parallels between Kyrie, Lucia and Trish with all of them having their worldview shattered. )
