This week I have finished ‘White Fragility’ by Robin DiAngelo on audible. This book really opened my eyes to the way I talk about and think about race as a white person and how it is impossible to learn about racism if we continue to be defensive. Racism is not always intended, but this book showed me that intentions are irrelevant if the impact is racism. When I first made this image almost 4 years ago in the wake of of the murders of Eric Garner and Philando Castile, I prayed that we were heading in a direction of understanding and acceptance of all people of colour. It is evident the murders have never stopped and corrupt police are perpetuating violence on black people on a daily basis. They must be held accountable for their actions. We must not let these killings be in vain. We much stand beside each other and lift up our black brothers and sisters and help their voices to be heard. I pray for all those hurting tonight throughout the world. Keep them safe and let their voices be heard. I pray for the change we need, acceptance of all colours and true understand of the actions of love. We are so much more powerful than this. This is not our destiny. We must do better.
