Embracing the Cool: The Evolution of Cool Online Shopping
In the bustling realm of modern consumerism, cool online shopping stands tall as a beacon of convenience, accessibility, and, dare we say, coolness. Gone are the days of endless queues, crowded aisles, and limited options. The digital marketplace has revolutionized the way we shop, transforming it into a seamless and enjoyable experience from the comfort of our homes or on-the-go.
So, what exactly makes online shopping so undeniably cool?
Boundless Variety
One of the most enticing aspects of online shopping is the vast array of choices available at our fingertips. Whether you're searching for the latest fashion trends, niche gadgets, artisanal goods, or international delicacies, the internet serves as an endless treasure trove of possibilities. No longer confined to the limitations of physical store space, online retailers can showcase an extensive inventory, catering to every whim and fancy of the modern consumer.
Personalization and Recommendations
The era of personalized shopping experiences has dawned, thanks to sophisticated algorithms and data analytics. Online platforms utilize our browsing history, purchase behavior, and preferences to curate tailored recommendations, making the shopping journey not only effortless but also enjoyable. From personalized product suggestions to bespoke styling advice, the digital landscape empowers consumers to discover new brands and products that resonate with their individual tastes.
Seamless Convenience
Convenience reigns supreme in the realm of online shopping. With just a few clicks or taps, consumers can browse, compare, and purchase products without ever leaving their homes. The days of battling traffic, hunting for parking spots, and navigating crowded malls are but distant memories. Furthermore, the convenience extends beyond the transaction itself, with options for doorstep delivery, hassle-free returns, and round-the-clock customer support ensuring a stress-free shopping experience.
Exclusive Deals and Discounts
Online shopping enthusiasts are no strangers to the allure of exclusive deals and discounts. E-commerce platforms frequently roll out enticing offers, ranging from flash sales and limited-time promotions to loyalty rewards and referral programs. Savvy shoppers can capitalize on these opportunities to snag their favorite items at unbeatable prices, all while enjoying the thrill of scoring a bargain from the comfort of their own homes.
Social Shopping Experience
The integration of social media into the online shopping landscape has transformed it into a social experience, blurring the lines between browsing, sharing, and purchasing. Platforms like Instagram and Pinterest serve as virtual storefronts, allowing brands to showcase their products in visually engaging ways and enabling users to discover new items through peer recommendations and influencer endorsements. Additionally, interactive features such as live shopping events and shoppable posts further enhance the social shopping experience, fostering a sense of community and connection among consumers.
Eco-Friendly Options
As sustainability takes center stage in consumer consciousness, online shopping has evolved to offer eco-friendly alternatives that align with environmentally conscious values. From ethically sourced fashion labels to zero-waste home goods, conscientious consumers can make eco-conscious choices with ease, supported by transparent sourcing practices and eco-friendly packaging options. By harnessing the power of technology and innovation, online retailers are paving the way for a more sustainable future of shopping.
In conclusion, online shopping has transcended its utilitarian origins to become a cultural phenomenon synonymous with convenience, innovation, and, above all, coolness. As we continue to embrace the digital revolution, let us revel in the endless possibilities of the virtual marketplace and the exciting journey of discovery it offers. So, what are you waiting for? Dive into the world of online shopping and experience the coolness for yourself.

I was talking to a friend of mine the other day about how fundamentally different the Internet was for us growing up. It was an insane and dangerous place but like we grew up there and there was this sense of discovery and adventure around every corner. Now it's the new shopping mall and every corner is out to sell you something. We used to land on all sorts of pages and forums made by all sorts of people mostly just for the sake of making them and finding others who were interested or wanted to learn about whatever. Now everyone uses like 5 sites and a handful of corporations own and control how we connect and what we see. I know I shouldn't be surprised, capitalism destroys creativity and community and authority restricts and controls information and collaborative tools but man it's still so hard not to look wistfully at the unmitigated frenzy of chaos that was the early internet and wonder at what we lost when is all started getting cleaned up.

BLOG #4: Profiling Art Patrons of A Certain Class
The Power of Art
The arts served the nation numerous times, such as in the pre-colonial era when these were present in many ritualistic-cultural daily practices. And during the colonialists' take-over, prominent members of the Katipunan, like Macario Sakay, Aurelio Tolentino, and Andres Bonifacio, appeared in plays performed at Teatro Porvenir as a component of propaganda against the colonizers, Jose Rizal with his novels, and many more.
Today, the arts are still a means for igniting a revolution against oppression and corruption. But with great power comes great responsibility, and as the arts flourish thanks to the construction of museums and galleries, so does the force of those who desire to use its illusory powers as if adding another definition to the arts as a capitalistic venture. One of the many galleries that have amassed a reaction is the AAG or Ateneo Art Gallery, notable for housing a variety of donated artworks, including some pieces bought by tycoons, an article "176 Gifts/ 176 Dispossessions" written by Angelo Suarez and Donna Miranda discusses in depth the fickle freedom of our nation balancing itself on the backs of the comprador Burgis.
We're aware that presents aren't self-serving tools used to flaunt and raise the position and fortune of the donor. It is a readiness to contribute without expecting anything in return. But in the case of Fernando Zobel, a Filipino businessman of Spanish descent, a mestizo who benefitted from the colonial landgrabs as mentioned within the article, and also a billionaire tycoon who has the power and influence to shift the country's economy, is it not self-serving to donate art and have their names deodorized and become more attractive to other capitalists and businesses, almost advertising to the world of how much credit they have? They own a bank (BPI) and the Ayala Corporation’s subsidiary Manila Water!

Artsy Oligarchy
Nowadays, oligarchs that express themselves as art patrons and lovers in the media say they are doing this to contribute to the community to give back. But how do art-washing and gentrification benefit the natives, the marginalized, and the impoverished?
No doubt this family (Zobel de Ayalas) has mastered the power of art-washing. Are we sure that what they are doing, despite Fernando Zobel de Ayala and many members' artistic backgrounds, is that they are ethically patrons of the arts?
Isn't it odd that whenever a new land and metro area is in the process of development, like Nuvali, in Canlubang, hailed as Ayala Land's southern urban fulcrum, cultural and artistic festivities are seemingly prevalent, hosting that we, the people, made this possible, as Filipinos with great talent and an eye for the arts we should celebrate (Ramirez, 2008)!? The family's patriarch, Don Jaime, was inaugurating "Bravo Filipino," an event showcasing Philippine music, art, and fashion located at Greenbelt 5. The mall (Greenbelt) was perhaps the only one in the nation managed by a museum (Ayala Museum), at that time (Ramirez, 2008). Don Jaime expressed his dismay at the notion that Filipinos must be successful abroad to receive high honors at home (Ramirez, 2008). What he mentioned had some merit because we Filipinos recognize talent when it is displayed in other countries, particularly the West, as voiced by Don Jaime. The issue is that practically all of the artists in Bravo Filipino, whom Don Jaime expressed as a chance to discover local artists, are already well-known in the eyes of the global art world and the Filipino people, such as Ryan Cayabyab and Louie Ocampo, even though it intended to emphasize the discovery of our local artists, seemingly another art-washing strategy to capitalize on their businesses and products. And the Ayala Museum itself houses precious artifacts such as the Golden Bowl found in Siargao del Sur by a Filipino worker by the name of Berto Morales, that also found other golden artifacts, whose family was kidnapped but sold back for ransom due to his discovery which is now serving unsavory middlemen (Fish, 2015). The Ayala Museum now has control of the Golden Bowl. I never saw full disclosure of the discovery of these historical artifacts or recognition of their discoverers, who may have been regular people just trying to make ends meet but felt vindicated when artifacts from their history turned into a double-edged sword because of the greed of the ruling class that did more harm than good. And artworks by renowned artists, such as the rediscovered "Hymen, oh Hyménée! (Roman Wedding)," by Juan Luna, as if the Philippines were a warehouse nation to store their riches through collections of art and galleries that further decorate their name, masking as a messiah that our history is accessible for 650 and/or 350 (discounted) pesos admission that would circulate within the economy of one family who can sustain numerous cities and even islands (Ayala Museum, n.d).
Tumblr media
Retrieved from: asiasociety.org /blog by Eric Fish/.Bowl. Surigao Treasure, Surigao del Sur province. Ayala Museum, 81.5179. Photography by Neal Oshima; Image courtesy of Ayala Museum. An object uncovered by Berto Morales in 1981.

Retrieved from: https://www.philstar.com/headlines/2023/06/11/2273024/juan-lunas-long-lost-masterpiece-unveiled-ayala-museum-multimedia-show. Headline by Lisa Guerrero Nakpil. Juan Luna’s long-lost masterpiece, ‘Hymen, oh Hyménée! (Roman Wedding)’
Therefore, don't we feel as if we're being baited, through art-washing, much like the manipulation methods of our former Spanish colonists, but instead of artistic and cultural ventures, using the power of religion to enable control among the islands and changing their culture? The glorification of being saved through Christianity under foreign rule. I cannot stop metaphorizing this family with our colonizers, having known their family comprador initiatives in the past. Reading and observing the family dynasty seems to be a form of postmodern colonization, much like the messianic guise of our Spanish colonizers. If we focus on the museums of the modern day, like the Ayala Museum, aren't they like the cathedrals of Spanish friars? Do we see ourselves represented in a museum that felt like our culture was another exotic attraction, our culture, and arts to be profited by the ruling class? As if figuratively, we've returned to the depictions of Spanish priests subtlety calling us indios, but now within the confines of a museum whose name constantly reminds us of our past.
What is a Gift?
I can't seem to disagree with the essays on "176 gifts/176 dispossessions," indeed, the arts have become so entrenched in neoliberal ideals that skew the essence of museums and the artists in the art and the art itself -a despairing truth. Much like NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens), may they like it or not, these aren't for aesthetics or any other meaning of art but for their economic capital and hold on to the global trade, despite their owners' descriptions of it as "unique and inimitable."
Dare I say these cultural art festivities and donated pieces by the Ayalas aren't truly philanthropic, nor do they serve as gifts for the masses to be enlightened but to heighten their influence and hide the gentrification and displacement If they'd want to contribute to the Filipino people's art ventures and cultures they would've given gifts that serve local artists, starving artists, and communities unable to spend extra to travel to the urban metropolitan areas. To build and donate galleries situated without the subtlety of advertising their billionaire clan name. Gifts do not glorify the giver but acknowledge and support the receiver.
The article has really cemented the issue of modern-day corruption and even postmodern colonialism, which goes beyond just the gifts of these tycoons to AAG, much like the issues of the Ayalas and the irony of their museum and buildings being in every center of gentrified-marketable urban cities. Are we sure that these are still gifts? What good is a mall to a local farmer and our urban poor who used to live within these lands but now live within the slums of such "gifts?"

Things to do in Dubai in January 2023
The winter season, from November to April, is the ideal time to visit Dubai.
The Dubai Shopping Festival, which brings the city to life, has made it vibrant and full of light. Not the one who enjoys shopping? When the weather is nice, you may relax on the beach or have a beautiful brunch outside!
Tumblr media
We have a list prepared for you after you get your emirates visa for Pakistan citizens whether you are visiting Dubai on vacation or simply for a brief layover. The top 10 activities to do in Dubai in January 2023 are listed below! Apply emirates visa for Pakistan nationals immediately to enjoy all the things to do in Dubai.
1. Take a City Tour or the Old Dubai Walking Tour
Dubai has developed into a bustling metropolis and the most well-liked travel destination in the Middle East.
Because it likes to have the finest of everything, the megacity has earned the moniker "land of superlatives."
Every day, the capital of the Emirate of Dubai sets a new benchmark for excellence for the rest of the globe, from infrastructure to way of life.
Tumblr media
The city's humble beginnings as a small fishing community keep Dubai grounded and are in stark contrast to the level of development it has attained.
A Dubai city tour is the finest way to see everything the city has to offer.
Who doesn't adore high-rise structures, culture, and skyscrapers? We make sure to give you a taste of both sides of Dubai on our city tour, which combines all of these elements.
You might be zipping through the Burj Khalifa, the world's tallest building, in the skies one second, and then taking a traditional Abra ride through Dubai's busy waterways the next.
To obtain a sense of the city's past, you must visit the thriving spice and gold souks.
Every day at 10 am and 4 pm through January | Private tours can begin whenever is most convenient Old Dubai Heritage and Souks Walking Tour
Our most well-known and popular tour is the Old Dubai Heritage and Souks Walking Tour.
It happens in Dubai's oldest district, Al Fahidi Historical Neighbourhood, formerly Bastakiya.
Dubai is renowned for its gloss and elegance, but before the oil discoveries or the tourism boom, the city was considerably different. Back then, fishermen, divers, and Bedouins lived in Dubai.
We will cross the creek on the Abra boat and stop at the Coffee Museum, Dubai Museum, Spice Souk, and Gold Souk on this tour.
The Creek, which originally divided the city into Deira and Bur Dubai, is the historical center of Dubai.
Before the 1963 building of Al Maktoum Bridge, Dubai's first bridge, the only method to travel between the two sides was on a flimsy tiny wooden boat known as an abra. It's still without a doubt the most enjoyable (and inexpensive) way to travel.
For individuals who want to reserve a deluxe tour for themselves, we offer this tour daily as both public and private excursions.
The ideal way to explore this area of the city is to take our Old Dubai Walking Tour!
2. Enjoy the Fireworks
Dubai is a popular destination on New Year's Eve, and the United Arab Emirates celebrates New Year's Day as a national holiday.
It is not surprising that tourists from the surrounding nations and the rest of the world begin to arrive given the incredible fireworks displays and the opportunity to take part in some of the lavish New Year's celebrations in Dubai for free.
For a week following New Year's Day, fireworks displays are held in the evening in various locations throughout the city, including Palm Jumeirah, JBR Walk, Al Seef, and La Mer.
Tumblr media
For a week following New Year's Day, fireworks displays are held in the evening in various locations throughout the city, including Palm Jumeirah, JBR Walk, Al Seef, and La Mer.
The Dubai Festivals & Retail Establishment, a division of the Dubai Department of Tourism, organizes DSF every year as a one-month-long event.
Shops give discounts on various goods throughout the celebration. There are daily prize draws and raffles where you can win things like gold and vehicles.
Additionally, the malls typically keep extended hours, giving you plenty of time to shop until you drop!
Like every other celebration in Dubai, DSF is observed with fanfare and display. This suggests there are other activities outside buying that might satisfy your spirit.
In addition to shopping, there is a tonne of events, fireworks, film festivals, and music performances that you can attend here.
4. Take the Dhow Cruise or a Yacht
On a classic Arabic boat, enjoy a calm evening filled with fun and entertainment.
An upbeat Dhow Cruise is known for its Tanura dancers and their vibrant outfits.
The evening buffet on dhow cruises typically consists of three courses. Drifting through the creek while seeing the vibrant reflections of Dubai's stunningly lit cityscape on the water is a truly spectacular experience.
Since there are many photo opportunities, be sure to pack your camera. It's the ideal remedy for the hectic pace of the city.
We advise taking a yacht from the Dubai Marina area if you'd prefer a more private experience.

The pavilions, which are modeled after famous buildings or regional buildings, invite visitors to meander from London's Big Ben to Italy's leaning tower of Pisa.
Travel back in time to Ancient Egypt or take pictures against the lovely Taj Mahal backdrop.
The brilliant lights and vivacious atmosphere created by parades and all kinds of events, from fire-breathing street displays to star-studded concerts, will captivate both children and adults.
The biggest funfair in the area also offers a tonne of exciting rides and activities for even more enjoyment.
Watch out for Globo, the mascot of Global Village, as he travels the world with Scaredy Bat and other characters.
For all the outdoor entertainment this season, go to Global Village.

The Dubai Opera, although having just recently opened its doors in 2016, has swiftly emerged as one of the city's most prized cultural gems.
Operatic performances, ice shows, ballet dances, symphonic productions, illusionist acts, musicals, and more have all been presented in the 1900-seat performing arts facility.
Tumblr media
At the box office of the Dubai Opera, you can purchase tickets in person. The Box Office is open every day from 10 am to 9 pm and is situated on the Opera Plaza on Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Boulevard. Non-places; eerie cityscapes; uncanny suburbia:
The modes of the weird and eerie that reside in the realm of space and architecture is neither a new discovery nor a trend, for there has long been a confluence between the analysis of public space and the investigation of the uncanny as a concept since the beginning of the nineteenth century. [...]
Where society is increasingly on the move, movement turns a place into a passage of space, and therefore non-place. Augé, in this respect, defines the majority of non-places as being transitional spaces, of areas of transit and temporary waiting; airports, motorways and their services stations, car parks, hotel or office lobbies, and shopping malls. In these non-places, the majority of individual experiences are at best micro-historical, and all other times take on a “solitary contractually,” of already-agreed propositions and interactions, either with agents assigned to control and manage the flow of movement, or though proliferation of signs and organisational boundaries. To facilitate the semblance of frictionless movement and exchange, the layout, design and production of non-places tend towards a structural homogeneity as space becomes standardized. Non-spaces therefore create a disavowal towards exhibiting any particular cultural roots or an innate historical connection with the surrounding area. Despite the increasing elements of surface ornamentation and allusions to place that arise from postmodernist design, the basic layout of a shopping mall or an airport is the same whether it is in Reykjavik or Rio de Janeiro. [...]
--------
In describing the non-place, Augé defines it as the opposite of the anthropological place, that of the “concrete and symbolic construction of space” that facilitates collective gathering, social functions, and a sense of belonging. Non- places, in contrast, are spaces which “cannot be defined as relational, or historical, or concerned with identity.”
While the definitions of place/non-place may seem like the creation of a simple binary, both are not necessarily discrete and separate entities as all too often they tend to coexist in the same space. “Places,” Augé acknowledges, “reconstitute themselves in it [the non-place]; relations are restored and resumed in it. […] Place and non-place are rather like opposed polarities: the first is never completely erased, the second never totally completed [...].” In fact according Miriam Gebauer, actual non-places don’t actually exist, “except through human interaction with it.”
-----------------
The home of the nineteenth century became a paradigm where the construction of the self could be built though the accumulation of objects and goods, as well as through the control of space within the home [...]. But with the advent of the modernist enterprise and the evolution of urban spaces in the nineteenth and twentieth century, there is a concurrent movement of the uncanny as an aesthetic and psychological mode from the confines of the home to the architectural spaces of the street and the city. [...] This shift towards a globalised form of finance capitalism resulted in a form of posturbanism, where the erasure of categorical thresholds and boundaries in modern urban spaces described by Vidler extended outwards from the traditional urban to the suburban fringes. Former urban centres became the hollowed-out sites for various corporate financial and service industry headquarters, while consumer, entertainment, and other business services began to move and coalesce into an undifferentiated suburban sprawl. This sprawl, consisting of multiple areas for consumer commerce and entertainment (shopping malls, cinema multiplexes) and industry (business parks), were aided by a booming infrastructure network [...].
-----------------
Non-places refer to capitalist and technological sites in modern society that, while having a human presence through that of work or transit, are a-historical, non-relational and lack any definitive connections with their locale. Augé sites non-places as spaces of transit or temporary waiting and congregation - shopping malls, business parks and corporation “campuses”, motorways, roundabouts, carparks, and hotels – all places that give a semblance of seamless connectivity and ease of movement. From an architectural and organizational viewpoint however, non-places are considered sterile and affectless, exuding an overriding sameness and dispassionate negativity that is put to work under the auspices of globalised capitalism. Through their overriding spatial conformity, and the mechanical nature they invoke in the individual towards consumerism and social control, non-places invoke forms of eerie alienation upon the body in that they allow the individual to psychologically disconnect, to drift in an aesthetically impoverished landscape and the seeming absence of presence.

Social Commerce the online shopping experience
Tumblr media
Social commerce the online shopping experience. Social commerce — the process of selling products directly on social media — is revolutionising the e-commerce industry.  In fact, the global social commerce market is estimated at $89.4 billion right now, and set to reach $604.5 billion by 2027.
But what’s driving the rapid shift towards social commerce, and how can small businesses use this opportunity to make more sales?
What Is Social Commerce?
Social commerce is a subset of e-commerce where everything happens on social media — product discovery, search, click-to-purchase, and post-purchase support.
In other words, it’s a one-stop shop for people to discover and buy products — a fully streamlined sales funnel that takes shoppers from inspiration to purchase in seconds.
Unlike the earlier phases of e-commerce, where users primarily bought products from a website or third-party marketplace, social commerce happens all in one place — allowing businesses to engage with consumers at every touchpoint of the sales funnel.
It has the potential to elevate the shopping experience and is huge for brands who want to increase their sales revenue.
How Social Platforms are Evolving to Drive Social Commerce
The concept of social commerce isn’t new, but it was accelerated in 2020 due to COVID-19. With in-store shopping paused, many small businesses pivoted online to connect with and sell to their audience.
One example of this trend is Papersmiths. The stationery brand was forced to permanently close one of their stores and pivoted to an online selling strategy, using Instagram Shop to help promote their products.
And social media platforms evolved too:
Facebook launched Shops — an e-commerce feature allowing businesses to build online stores on Facebook and Instagram.
Instagram Checkout went mainstream — allowing users to make a purchase without leaving the app.
Pinterest introduced a Shop tab — a dedicated space for users to browse and shop in-stock product Pins.
TikTok Shopping is on the horizon, with its latest Shopify partnership.
According to Business Insider, social commerce is expected to account for 4.3% of all retail e-commerce sales in the US in 2021 — a whopping $36.09 billion.
What Does Social Commerce Mean for Small Businesses?
For small businesses, it’s time to fish where the fish are biting and go where the customers are.
The stats don’t lie — consumer habits have shifted to social media in a big way:
60% of Gen Zers in the US use Instagram to discover new brands and products
48% of Americans aged 18-34 have made a purchase through social media
Social media platforms like Instagram have become a personalized virtual mall — you can browse new shops, chat with your friends, be entertained, find inspiration, and purchase products in a few clicks.
In other words, social commerce is becoming the customized shopping experience of the future.
One of the best reasons for experimenting with social commerce? Its low barrier to entry.
Many have built businesses solely on Instagram. Anyone can create a social media account (for free!), grow an engaged community, and then sell their products within the app. By leveraging integrated e-commerce features instead of traditional routes to purchase, you’ll be able to create a more streamlined sales funnel for your business.
The Future of Social Commerce
We’re still in the early days of social commerce, which is what makes it full of potential. For several years, brands have been active on social media as a brand awareness play. Now, we’re entering the next phase of social. And the winners will be those who are jumping on social commerce now. It’s time to make it even easier for the audience you’re building to click “buy”.
Visual content is how you’ll win in this space. Social media is driven by visual experiences, and the brands who capitalize on that will be successful.
A website isn’t enough. For consumer brands, social needs to be treated as a primary sales channel.
Every social platform will adopt Facebook’s integrated shopping approach, allowing you to go from product discovery to purchase all within the app.
TikTok will be the next big wave for social commerce.
We’ll see more people buying via video (keep an eye on YouTube Shopping).
While exciting, audio content platforms like Clubhouse have a long way to go to be on par with Instagram’s level of e-commerce features. Watch this space.
Social commerce allows businesses to make money right where their customers are, and the tools are readily available (with more to come).
So, are you ready to start fishing where the fish are biting?

HERE'S WHAT I JUST REALIZED ABOUT PRODUCTIVITY
Ditto for PayPal. The key question, I realized it would probably have to be just one valuation. The founders all learned to do every job in the company. Instead he can ask What would make the painting more interesting to people? I only thought of when I sat down to write them.1 It does not, for example. With Socrates, Plato, and particularly Aristotle, this tradition turned a corner.
Among them was Frederick's of Hollywood, which gave us valuable experience dealing with heavy loads on our servers. Few were sufficiently correct that people have forgotten who discovered what they discovered.2 It means these ideas are invisible to most people your age, others that will appeal to most people because it only recently became feasible. Economist J.3 2, because that also seems to be to start with good people, to make something customers want. It's often mistakenly believed that medieval universities were mostly seminaries. Technical tweaks may also help them to grasp what's special about your technology.
It was impressive even to ask the questions they asked were new to them, or cut them off.4 Will I ever read it?5 There is room for a new search engine, when there were already about 10, and they did it. Popular magazines made the period between the spread of literacy and the arrival of TV the golden age of the essay. It's not for the discovery that most previous philosophy was a waste of time?6 Those hours after the phone stops ringing are by far the best for getting work done. If you're curious about something, trust your instincts. Meaning everyone within this world was expected to seem more or less the same.
When they appeared it seemed as if search was a mature market, dominated by big players who'd spent millions to build their brands: Yahoo, Lycos, Excite, Infoseek, Altavista, Inktomi. Instead of trying to discover them because they're useful.7 Whatever you make will have to be disciplined about not letting your hypotheses harden into anything more. In the humanities you can either avoid drawing any definite conclusions e. Those whose jobs require them to judge art, like curators, mostly resort to euphemisms like significant or important or getting dangerously close realized. At this stage, all most investors expect is a brief description of what you plan to do and how you're going to replace email.8 I answered twenty, I could see at the time, a lot of valuable advice about business, and also did all the legal work of getting us set up as a company. When people sit down to watch a show, they want to live in the suburbs.
If you go to see Silicon Valley, what you'll see are buildings.9 Design by committee is a synonym for bad design. Will I ever read it?10 Customers loved us. And they each have.11 That may seem a frivolous reason to choose one language over another. Restaurants with great food seem to prosper no matter what you do. Like most startups, we changed our plan on the fly.
When you're just typing expressions into the toplevel, you want to invest in them.12 Writing was one of the founders we funded asked me why we started Y Combinator is neither selfish nor virtuous. If you tell the truth you don't have to remember anything, and that's likely to be done with levers and cams and gears are now done with loops and trees and closures.13 The only place to look was in the tradition of skateboards or bicycles rather than medical devices. They've applied for a lot of investors hated the idea, but the overall experience is much better than the soul-crushing suburban sprawl. If a nonprofit or government organization had started a project to index the web, Google at year 1 is the limit of what they'd have produced. Among them were Gordon Moore and Robert Noyce, who went on to found Intel, and Eugene Kleiner, who founded the VC firm Kleiner Perkins. Aristotle's goal was to find one angel to act as the lead investor.
Partly because, as components of oligopolies themselves, the corporations knew they could safely pass the cost on to their customers, because their competitors would have to as well.14 So it is with design.15 The real problem is that you look smug. The difference between then and now is that now I understand why Berkeley is probably not worth trying to understand its implications. It would have been better off; not only wouldn't these guys have broken anything, they'd have gotten a lot more done. It would be a curious state of affairs if you could get to the same spot. So if you're developing technology for money, you're probably not going to use TCP/IP just because everyone else does. In the old days, you could create a situation indistinguishable from you being that manufacturer, at least working on problems of minor importance.
That will tend to produce results that annoy people: there's no use in telling people things they already believe, and people answering it often aren't clear in their own mind how much is deliberate.16 Curiously enough, what got Segway into this problem was that customers didn't want the product. At the time it seemed the future.17 There's nothing more valuable than the advice of someone whose judgement you trust. It didn't shake itself free till a couple decades ago, geography was destiny for cities.18 Arguably it's an interesting failed experiment. The American way is to make money by creating wealth, you're always going to be fighting a losing battle against increasing variation in productivity.19 So there could be other ways to attract them, but they were only a little more out of their sales channels. The result was that I wrote it. Not any more.
Notes
I remember are famous flops like the intrusive ads popular on Delicious, but explain that's what they campaign for. But you're not allowed to ask, what you call the market. These two regions were the case. It will seem more interesting than random marks would be very promising, because the proportion of the Web was closely tied to the Pall Mall Gazette.
I'm not saying it's impossible to write your dissertation in the time 1992 the entire West Coast that still requires jackets: The Duty of Genius, Penguin, 1991, p. As Secretary of Labor Statistics, the big winners are all about hitting outliers, are better college candidates. Bad math is merely an upper bound on a weekend and sit alone and think.
Gary and I don't know of one investor who for some students to get elected with a company. That way most reach the stage where they're sufficiently convincing well before Demo Day. I was not just the local builders built everything in exactly the opposite: when we were quite sore from VCs attempting to probe our nonexistent database orifice.
And it would not know his name. It's conceivable that a skilled vine-dresser was worth about 125 to 150 drachmae.
So 80 years sounds to me like someone adding a few that are only doing angel deals to generate everything else in the next round is high, so it may have been seen mentioning the site was about bands.
This phenomenon may account for a long thread are rarely seen, when we created pets. This point is that the highest returns, it's implicit that this was hard to avoid using it, whether you have to be spread out geographically.
So where do we draw the line that philosophy is nonsense. You also have to resort to raising money. Most of the reasons angels like to invest at a public company CEOs were J.
Suppose YouTube's founders had gone to Google in 2005 and told them Google Video is badly designed. I replace the url with that of whatever they copied. Even as late as Newton's time it takes forever.
Digg is notorious for its lack of results achieved by alchemy and saying its value was as much as people in any case, because they are to be a quiet contentment.
An investor who invested earlier had been trained that anything hung on a hard technical problem. One sign of a handful of lame investors first, and b not allow them to tell them everything. Algorithms that use it are called naive Bayesian. Xxvii.
You're investing your own morale, you need a higher growth rate to impress are not mutually exclusive. This essay was written before Firefox. Google's site.
Founders also worry that taking time to come up with elaborate rationalizations. Words we use for good and bad technological progress is accelerating, so they made more that year from stock options, of course. The two 10 minuteses have 3 weeks between them.
A more accurate or at least once for that reason. This is one of a handful of consulting firms that rent out big pools of foreign programmers they bring in on H1-B visas.
Confucius claimed proudly that he transformed the field they describe. There is archaeological evidence for large settlements earlier, but one by one they die and their hands.
If you wanted to go to work with founders create a great idea as something you need to be actively curious.
The facts about Apple's early history are from an angel-round board, consisting of two founders and one of the biggest discoveries in any case, because you couldn't do the opposite: when we got to the World Bank, Doing Business in 2006, http://doingbusiness. Acquisitions fall into in the room, and the super-angels hate to match.
Is what we need to go to grad school you always see when restrictive laws are removed. It would be unfortunate.
People were more dependent on banks for capital for expansion.
What they forget is that the web and enables a new Lisp dialect called Arc that is not so much control, and the exercise of stock the VCs I encountered when we were working on what you have to be about 200 to send a million dollars out of the canonical could you build for them, if you get stock as if you'd invested at a 3 million cap, but they seem like a month might to an adult. But Goldin and Margo think market forces in the 1960s, leaving less room for startups that are or feel weak. Sometimes a competitor will deliberately affect more interest than they expected and they hope will be the fact by someone who doesn't understand what you're working on your thesis. Even in Confucius's time it filters down to you.

When Diane von Furstenburg first moved her company to the Meatpacking District in Manhattan, the neighborhood was not the most ideal place for a luxury fashion brand.
“I moved to the Meatpacking District 20 years ago when I bought a small carriage house on West 12th Street,” said von Furstenberg. “I turned it into a design studio and showroom, and then added a mini shop in the small house next door. The neighborhood was run-down and not a typical location to drop in a fashion house, but I didn’t care.”
But since, a slew of fashion brands including Hermès, Madewell and Jeffrey have set up shop there, helping to restore the Meatpacking District as an area for fashion retail that can compete with SoHo and Hudson Yards. It had its heyday in the early 2000s, before brands like Stella McCartney and Moschino left the neighborhood. As brick-and-mortar retail continues to be an important factor for fashion brands, many brands are taking to the area — a welcome alternative to other, overstuffed neighborhoods in New York City.
While SoHo has become known as NYC’s neighborhood for experimental pop-ups and retail “experiences,” and Hudson Yards is establishing itself as the place for ultra-maximalist retail, Meatpacking has been quietly building up a reputation for a middle-of-the-road approach. It’s a place where you can find traditional high-end retail like Jeffrey next to an experimental pop-up from Loro Piana, which LVMH said in its recent earnings is driving a significant boost to the Loro Piana’s footwear category.
“For us, the idea was to offer our customers a bit more of an experience and not something traditional,” said Lauren Cardenas, gm of Sneakersnstuff, the European sneaker retailer that opened its first U.S. store in Meatpacking in 2017. “Meatpacking is a destination. You can go to SoHo and just walk around and bump into a lot of stores. But you go to Meatpacking because you live here or because there’s a particular store you want to go to. It’s like a mini 5th Avenue here.”
Cardenas estimates that about 50% of the customers that come through the store are tourists. Jeffrey Kalinsky, vp and designer fashion director at Nordstrom and founder of Jeffrey New York, the seminal fashion store that has been in Meatpacking for two decades, made a similar estimate. He guessed that half of Jeffrey visitors are tourists, 25% are from New York’s other boroughs and neighborhoods, and 25% are Meatpacking locals.
Part of the recent growth comes from favorable rent prices. Average rents in SoHo are around $540 per square foot per year, while in Meatpacking, they’re around $280. But Meatpacking’s success also comes from the public development designed to bring in more tourists and visitors.
In the beginning of August, the Meatpacking’s Business Improvement District will open the long-planned public plazas along Gansevoort Street and Ninth Avenue, after years of planning and development.
“The neighborhood first had significant capital reconstruction four years ago,” said Jeffrey LeFrancois, the executive director of the Meatpacking District Management Association. “This year, we will have all these historic plazas back, with tables, chairs, planters. As cities around the world know, public space is good for business. North of 20,000 square feet of public space will be made available. Right now, Meatpacking is in a moment of re-discovery.”
These projects to beautify and preserve the neighborhood’s historic locations have attracted a number of intriguing fashion brands, both old and new. Last April, Hermès opened a flagship store in Meatpacking, designed to pay tribute aesthetically to the neighborhood’s industrial heritage.
“Not long ago, you wouldn’t have mentioned Madison Avenue and the Meatpacking District in the same breath,” said Axel Dumas, CEO of Hermès. “Setting up shop in the Meatpacking District is an incredible source of energy for us, as well as a wonderful way to reconnect to our roots.”
DVF also chose to stay closely aligned with the neighborhood’s industrial vibe.
“Eventually, we outgrew our original space here, and that’s when I made the move to 14th and Washington Street,” von Furstenburg said. “The building needed to be historically preserved, so we saved the façade but created a beautifully bright, sunny interior.”
But Meatpacking hasn’t been without its struggles. Earlier this month, Milk Studios, the neighborhood’s iconic creative agency that has hosted countless fashion events and runway shows since the ’90s, abruptly announced that it will be leaving the neighborhood next year and that Google will be taking over the building. Google also acquired the building across the street from Milk last year. The influx of Google employees will likely be a contributing factor to the neighborhood’s continued growth.
“In the past 20 years, I’ve seen big changes,” said Kalinsky. “In the last five years, the most notable thing to happen was The Whitney reopening, and things like that certainly bring a lot of people in.”
While SoHo increasingly becomes the home of experimental retail and DTC shops, and Hudson Yards aims for ultra-luxury mall shopping, the brands that have called Meatpacking home have no plans to leave any time soon.
“Clearly I love this neighborhood, and I believe in this neighborhood,” said von Furstenburg. “I’m proud to have been witness to the evolution of this district.”

Soon, the most beautiful people in the world may no longer be human
By Peter Holley, Washington Post, August 8, 2018
In the hypercompetitive world of modeling, fateful discovery stories are part of the industry’s lore.
Gisele Bündchen was eating at a McDonald’s in southern Brazil when her life changed forever.
Natalia Vodianova was selling fruit at a market in Russia, and Adriana Lima was spotted at a shopping mall at age 13.
But what if major companies and fashion brands didn’t have to rely on chance--be it a fluke encounter or scrolling through strangers’ Instagram feeds--to find the perfect face for their products?
Cameron-James Wilson maintains that some of them no longer need to.
The 29-year-old London-based photographer is the creator of Shudu, a striking Instagram model from Africa with more than 130,000 followers.
Despite her entrancing beauty, Shudu is a purely digital being, a fact that Wilson revealed after Shudu’s image went viral, ending months of frenzied speculation about her origin this year.
Shudu has been called “the world’s first digital supermodel,” and the obsessive fawning over her lifelike features provoke suggests she won’t be the last.
She arrives at a time in which Instagram, Snapchat filters and photo-editing apps that rely on artificial intelligence have blurred the lines between reality and fantasy, turning ordinary people into paintings or delicately featured digital avatars who preen for “likes.” This summer, Time magazine included a mysterious digital avatar turned style icon named Lil Miquela on its list of the 25 most influential people on the Internet. Miquela--who was being managed by a computer software firm in Los Angeles at one point--has 1.3 million fans. They dissect her online musings and fashion choices and treat Miquela’s implicit artifice like an afterthought.
Virtual models such as Lil Miquela and Shudu are just the beginning of the avatar revolution, some industry observers say. As people grow increasingly comfortable with these manufactured online identities, some brands see an opportunity to capitalize, Wilson said.
“There’s plenty of models out there, but it’s hard to find somebody who is truly unique,” he said. “A 3-D model can’t walk down a runway for you, but they can be digital spokespeople that help you shop or serve as the face of your customer service.”
But brands are picky, Wilson added, and they “want someone that nobody else can have.”
Manipulating digital images of real humans has already been blamed for perpetuating unrealistic beauty standards, which begin to affect children as early as 5 years of age, according to experts. Now some fear an incoming wave of digital models will put even more pressure on people, particularly women, to live up to an extreme, synthetic version of beauty.
Wilson--a fashion photographer by trade and an avid gamer at heart--created models that have dark skin, feminine curves, fine wrinkles and realistic stretch marks, details he added to promote diversity and embrace natural beauty. He recently launched “The Diigitals,” an agency devoted to his growing roster of virtual models, at least one of whom appears to be extraterrestrial.
Wilson said his models appeal to the “luxury market” because of the cost and time it takes to produce a 3-D avatar. A single model can cost thousands of dollars and require hundreds of hours to produce, with Wilson laboring over minute details that bring his models to life, such as stray hairs and eyes that reflect light.
“Do I think 3-D models will impact editorials and put human models out of work--no, not really,” he said. “It’s a completely different space.”
But a British company that launched in April is already marketing itself as an alternative to human models. Irmaz Models calls itself an “Imagined Reality Modeling Agency.” The company’s website says its designers can “make faces to fit” any marketing campaign. Another advantage: Digital models “never argue, need to eat, throw tantrums or get tired,” the company notes.
“Brands can specify the look they’re exactly after, down to the race, gender and hairstyle,” Philip Jay, a former Playboy photographer who founded Irmaz Models with Irma Zucker, told CNN.
Kelvin Boon, the owner of Boon Models, an agency with branches in New York and the District, said he sifts through a daily stream of modeling portfolios in search of “quality models.” Aspiring models don’t always resemble their photos, he said, and those that do often require training before they’re ready for professional work.
If credible-looking digital models emerge, he said, “it’s going to affect the industry a lot.” Why, he asked, would a brand spend thousands of dollars to hire models and photographers for a single photo shoot when you can hire an artist to create images for far less?
“People don’t connect with images that resemble cartoons,” he said. “But if avatars begin to look like real people, it’s going to take a lot of power away from modeling agencies. Brands will only need human models for promotional events and walking the runways, and that’s pretty much it.”
Others, like Wilson, believe we might see a hybrid system in which models and celebrities license out their digital avatar, allowing them to book multiple appearances simultaneously. A model might appear at a New York fashion shoot in person, but their digital avatar would be in China promoting a movie using the local dialect.
Renee Engeln, a Northwestern University professor and psychologist who studies body image, told CNN that there is a troubling downside to normalizing digital models. Critics of the fashion world have long accused the industry of foisting unrealistic expectations upon the public, particularly women. Engeln said digital models could exacerbate that trend.
“There is no world in which this is good for women’s health,” she said. “To know that women are going to be comparing themselves to women who . . . are literally inhuman strikes me as some kind of joke that isn’t very funny.”
