2020 for the1918
Am I the last person to make this list? Maybe. Do I regret that? Yes. Am I making it anyways because my cognitive behavioral therapy is teaching me fix my avoidance issues? Also Yes.
Let’s do this: @The Trees In Front of Cevans’s House and @Bucky’s Arm... you da real MVPs.
But other than them...
Thank You to Everyone that Truly Made My 2020:
@cantabile-l Jo (Daddy Dumpster™ Co-Founder) — I have to list you first. How could I not? Every friendship I’ve made in this fandom comes back to you. We literally bonded over porn lookalikes and started this craziness called the Stucky Porn Lookalikes Archive ( @stucky-lookalikes-archive ) to preserve the porn, and it now has now has 85k hits and 500 bookmarks (!!!?!!). But it’s more than that, even more than starting the Daddy Dumpster™ and bonding over culihos. Bespoke got finished because you got me excited enough to want it, just like half a dozen other fics. You were also the basis for many, many other friendships that I list below. Your nesting head canons were the inspiration for so, so many A/B/O moments in my fics. We’re so on the same length on an intellectual and spiritual level (I feel like you and me and @ixalit are three parts of one whole ❤) and I am in love with you for it. Culihos forever.
@hanitrash Hani (O.G. Dumpster™ Citizen) —I’m so, so damn glad you’re in my life. We share that sick sense of humor and refusal to adopt a filter. You add flavor to our Dumpster™ with your wit, and I feel so warm when you share pics and updates about the family with us. You were the first person I ran to when I “discovered” HTP and you held my hand 😂 And Jesus—your talent. I could go on and on and on about Through The Darkness I Heard Your Voice and Private Showing, but also one of my New Year’s resolutions is to start reading your work as Loralynne Summers. Thank you for making me smile every day of last year since April.
@trekchik Jini (O.G. Dumpster™ Citizen) — I can’t speak to the number of laugh-out-loud, belly-grabbing, cackling moments I have had in a year that could easily have been shit otherwise, all because of you. I feel like you’ve truly become a member of my family; like, I see you posting in the Dumpster™ when I wake up in the morning and I think to myself, “Oh, what’s the fam up to today?”. I know I’ve gone on and on about your talent (absolute queen of dialogue and pacing) before, but I don’t thank you enough for keeping the Porn Archive alive when the rest of us are slacking. Your Stucky Tumblr Drabbles (especially the meet cutes) puts a smile on half the fandom’s face regulary, and I’m excited to re-read the wonderful Anagnorsis & Peripeteia soon. Here’s to another year of weird dildo pictures.
@thegodswife Amanda (Dumpster™ Citizen) — I feel like we were literally destined to become friends. The love I feel for you and your little family is real and immense, and I feel like your victories (in life and in writing) are my victories. You have made a slow but steady convert of me to Shrinkyclinks with fics like peaches and because it's christmas, and I am in awe of your talent for writing charged dynamics with jaw-dropping moments. This fandom is lucky to have such a gem as you. 2021 is going to be the Year of Amanda (*clinks Lindeman’s Framboise glasses 🥂*)
@ixalit Max (Dumpster™ Citizen) — My relationship with you has and continues to be lifechanging for more reasons than I can even go into on tumblr. You make me laugh. You make me cry (usually in good ways). You make me horny by supplying the #porn-and-fun as the dutiful resident horny teenage boy of Dumpster™. I remember so clearly when we first messaged talking about your Evanstan thoughts and fics, and I knew your writing was special then (omg, Hiraeth?? How dare). You deserve all the success you earned in 2020 and every bit more success that you will continue to have this year. There is no one else I would rather have with me as we make this ~journey through Song of the Rolling Earth together.
@becassine Bex (Dumpster™ Citizen) — What can I say about my lucky charm? 🍀 I found our friendship later in the year and I feel it was truly central to the way I finished out my year with a bang (lol). Your encouragement to finish Bespoke supercharged me, and I’m still riding that high in writing SoRE. But for every bit we talk about you being the Queen of Hype (Becassine, First of Her Name), I am also stunned by your own gorgeous writing. The Way I Feel For You is a gift to this fandom and it’s gonna keep rocking our world, along with any other creative endeavor you choose to embark on. Thank you for the treasure of your continued friendship.
@darter-blue Bec (Dumpster™ Citizen) — My gorgeous, gorgeous cunt of a friend. What ever am I going to do with you? I feel like you and I have clicked so perfectly and so instantly, and I feel such a strong connection to you. I have been enamored with your skill and your style since I first stumbled across your Sergeant Barnes and Colonel Rogers: A Love Story series and then rapidly gobbled up your other writing. Getting to collab with you on No Vacancies was a dream come true. You make me feel so connected to the outside world and humanity even in this bizarre time and even though you’re on the other side of the world.
@kalee60 Kel (Dumpster™ Citizen) — You flawless sass-master. You brilliant human. You tricky little bastard. What a perfect addition to the Dumpster™ you have been! And your talent, Jesus... just being around you makes me want to write. I have truly never seen someone with as much talent write so prolifically, and I am in very real awe of it. If I had to pick “Fic of the Year” for me, I would not hesitate to pick Push The Button—it turned my world upside down—but for as much as we talk about that epic, your AU Extravaganza is really miracle to behold. And I am so, so pumped for you during this exciting time coming up in your life. Here’s to magnificent year for you in 2021!
@andysmountains Andy Gator Lord 🐊 — You’ve changed my life. I’m sitting here and I honestly don’t know how else to put it. You’re hilarious and you’re a ball of sunshine and you have kept this breeder feeling rooted to reality (in a great way) and remembering how to smile during some of the shittiest times I can remember. Newts. You’ve helped me explore my identity, and I’m not sure what greater gift you could have given me. Also, I’ve never heard true love whispered more sincerely than when I see 🔪—and I would give you nine hundred and ninety-seven 🔪 now if not for the fact that you have literally beat me to it.
@ceratonia-siliqua Cera — We’ve shared so much. I feel so privileged that you’ve picked me to be a person that you want to talk to during hard times because you’re such a special guy, and because you’ve got talent that the world needs to see forever and ever and ever (I continue to blown away by what you did in Sunshine, and none of us are ready for Quilt Fic™) and I hope you never stop writing your whole damn heart out. I truly love you. I do. Thank you for reminding me that there is endless humanity and prose in this world.
@howdoyousleep3 K — I feel like 2021 couldn’t be starting off better now that you’re in my life again. Last year was largely defined for me by the time I spent with you, and I’ve truly been changed by you and your writing. You are an endless amount of inspiration for me and this whole community; I would bet real money that the number of Daddy Kink converts that owe their new *interest* to finding yourDaddy Steve Rogers/Baby Bucky Barnes series numbers in the hundreds (not to mention your other AUs). But fics aside, I had so many smiles and laughter throughout 2020 because of you, and I owe such a big part of my happy heart to you and your presence in my life. You have a huge, caring heart. Cheers to Cevans continuing to be a giant, bro-ish man slut and us never stopping giving him shit for it — and here’s to Trucker Bucky and his bug.
@lullabybeauty Bee — I’m not sure I would still be writing if it weren’t for you. The interest you took in my fics and endless support you’ve provided have turned me into a real-life 🥺🥺🥺 face so many times I can’t count them. But more than the hype you provide, you are an amazing person, and I hope you never stop putting (and ceaselessly keeping) the word out in our community through your blog that Black Lives Matter and black women matter now and forever; it’s far too easy for those of us who are white to let that truth fade from our minds when there’s not something terrible happening in the news, and I’m so thankful for your posts filling up my dash with reminders I need to be a good ally and giving me information to share with others. Thank you for the gift of yourself.
@ywecanthavenicethingsanymore Caroline—You sort of swooped out of nowhere for me and boosted my confidence through the roof. Your comments and your hype and your hilarious tags remind me every day that writers are only half of the fanfiction equation; all we do without supportive friends like you is sit in the corner dreaming of stories we don’t have the confidence or feel-good to put to words. Thank you for your constant support and for being so. damn. cool.
@littlesurfergrl Heather—Oh, Heather. Queen of the A+ tags. Sender of inbox updates about what time you get off of work and why you’re vibrating to read a fic. All-around beautiful person. Your love and support is magic in my veins.
@hoeforthegays Baby J—I am so damn excited for this creative project you’ve taken on; you are so talented. I look forward to our thirst talks all the time. You make me laugh with your screaming and even your advice. Such a source of sunshine in my life.
@capbvckyrogers / @tae-withsuga Cam — You were the first person who ever reblogged a farmer daddy post. You were the first person who ever sent me a prompt. Honestly, you were the first person who ever bonded with me over a character. There zero (0) chance I would have enjoyed fandom (or certainly any kind of creative success) the way that I did in 2020 if not for you. Thank you, endlessly.
@justice-for-plums Kenz — Another “late in the year” friendship find that I am so grateful for. I love our talks! I am so thankful you felt comfortable to reach out and talk about writing. Our workshopping has helped remind me of what works and what doesn’t for me, and I love the creative collaboration on head canons! Excited for more in 2021.
Shrunkyclunks Bitches®, or those not mentioned already above: @dreadlockholiday (co-founder of the Bitches® with @justice-for-plums and #1 reason I blushed last year), @oh-i-swear-writes @wayward-lives @allegedlyann and others I either am missing on tumblr or forgetting (but not because I don’t love you) — Here’s to Cap Steve and modern Bucky and 1,000,000+ words written during our writing sprints in 2021. [Bitches® server membership is open by the way! If you love Shrunkyclunks, contact Dready @dreadlockholiday].
And to the endless list of others who made me smile, laugh, sometimes cry, feel proud, but always feel that incredible Stucky love — a list that includes but is certainly not limited to @fishcustardandclintbarton, @hawkeyeandthewintersoldier, @willbakewithstucky, @hannah-stagram, @thewaythatwerust, @bigbraiiin, @musette22, @luninosity, @fandomfluffandfuck, @maddiewritesstucky, @hbalbat, @doctorenterprise, @epicstuckyficrecs, @k347 and the massive important people I know I am forgetting (...like some BIG ones)
To everyone above and anyone else who has scrolled this far:
Thank you.
Let’s all have a fantastic 2021 🥂

Homme Fatale -Dentist!Vampire!Taemin X Reader
homme fatale
i. e. An undoubtedly seductive and dangerous man. One with a smile that would be too cruel not to kiss and a cherubic face with a temperament that’s anything but innocent.
Summary: He was cloaked by the smell of death and wore it as armor. His life had little meaning, he pillaged through the world only to beguile and destroy as his veins hummed with bloodlust and selfish need. Nocturnal creatures should not be swayed by the beating hearts of the living but when Taemin catches a glimpse of you, a mortal in possession of a treacherous supernatural gift, he is faced with the temptation to claim you as his own. At his mercy, you discover a darkness in yourself that you’ve never dared to explore and you never imagined it could taste so sweet.
Genre: Smut, Romance, Dentist AU, Vampire AU, Supernatural, Horror, Lyric fic inspired by WANT MV and other Taemin song lyrics (easter eggs abound)
Rating: M for sexual content, death, and blood
Pairing: Taemin x Female Reader
Word Count: 5.5k+
You’d always had an unhealthy fascination with death. With autumn winds and the way the colors seemed even more vibrant just before everything fell and turned cold. When you were a child you’d been scared of the dark just like everyone else, until the day that same darkness befriended you.
Your parents always said you’d had an overactive imagination growing up. That you’d kept invisible friends far longer than your classmates and that maybe this was due to the fact that they had never given you any siblings but they were wrong. Your friends were not imaginary, they were just unable to communicate with anyone else.
It was on your tenth birthday that you first had a full conversation with a ghost. The little girl with blonde hair and green eyes was named Pomona and she seemed to like the same games and books you did. She loved building tree houses in the woods even though she couldn’t carry anything herself. She took sips of the green tea you served her by leaning into the cup with her tongue.
Even though your visitor glided through walls with ease she was still able to keep down a meal. You’d laughed at her manners and held her hand. To your surprise, you felt the touch of her smooth skin as you never had been able to before. It was then that you knew you were truly different, you would never be able to unsee the spectors that appeared every day before you walking in the streets beside you. Not only was the veil lifted from your eyes unlike others around you but you seemed to be a part of their world as well and it had made Pomona’s departure from you as she ascended to join her family that much harder.
When your parents had died in a car crash right on the outskirts of town you had thought that maybe this was why you’d been born with these gifts, that maybe your life of living like a pariah was all so that you could have this chance to communicate with your parents even in the afterlife. But there was no apparition. No voices that called for you from the curtain that separated the living from the dead. And with that hope of communication gone you were left with a gaping hole inside of you but you continued on living in the world as invisibly as you could. It wasn’t hard to do in the small town of Ampleforth where everyone knew their neighbors but still kept to themselves and their clicks. The crowd around your age kept at a distance and the elders that passed you by in the grocery store looked at you with sympathy or rather through you at the poor orphan who never made friends easily.
During your teenage years you’d had your share of otherworldly lovers. They came eagerly when you called to them while your parents refused to answer you from beyond. It didn’t matter how many candles you lit in your loneliness or how many beautiful fantoms kissed you with lips cold as hell. You never let them possess your soul. You never gave away the reigns of control to anyone.
That isn’t to say you hadn’t tried making living friends. However, most people in Ampleforth didn’t want to think about anywhere beyond Lastshire the next town over. You wanted to travel, you believed that to see the world was to live and you wanted to leave once you had enough money to do so. The townspeople were stuck in their roots and their old ways and even technology was a bit rustic. You often found yourself using the library wifi outside laying on the lawn with Emma, the only friend who really understood you even without knowing your secret in full beyond your morbid curiosities. And today, like any other Friday night was no exception.
You looked away from your book to glance at her as she laughed aloud and continued to scan her phone. You bookmarked the page where Mr. Rochester disguised as a gypsy woman tells Jane her fortune for what must have been the tenth time you’ve read it over the years and move closer to Emma.
“What are you reading?” You asked her curiously. “Fanfiction of course,” Emma said smiling. You joined her, reading along and smiling at the fact that someone was so comfortable around you even when you remained silent.
The graveyard was especially chilly at sunset. You placed your freehand in your pocket to warm it and clutched the bag of glazed donuts and bouquet of white lilies to your chest with the other. Your parents graves resided on the grounds of St. Samael church, though the grounds hadn’t been tended in ages. After enemy troops from the Battle of Cymadd two-hundred years before took refuge in its walls it was seen as a sacrilege to worship here. Your mother and father however had lovely memories of picnics and stolen kisses on these grounds where no one would look for them and so when their will had stated that they were to be buried here in the desecrated church you hadn’t batted an eye though the tongues of Ampleforth had wagged.
You knelt before their graves and blew off the dried leaves. You divided the flowers evenly between them and placed a donut on each of the stones as you sat beside them and ate the rest. The anniversary of their death always washed you with a flood of anxiety. It was foolish to think that maybe on this day the abyss driven between you and them would be broken and they would appear before you. On the other hand you chided yourself for such selfish wishes. They were happy in their own paradise and only an ungrateful daughter would wish them to visit the earth once more, even if it was to say goodbye.
The tears came then, unbidden. You lay on your back and shut your eyes. Shutting the pain away simultaneously for crying never could erase the scars. At least here in the darkness you knew yourself even when your own thoughts were frightening and loud to your own ears.
Your mind was filled with the epitaphs of the graves that stood tall here around you, phases passed your eyelids like shooting stars.
Life is but the whisper of death, in sleep we are merely participants of a new condition.
To have loved and lost I know this, there is no greater torment than to love that which parishes.
Just as the last strokes of light were painting the sky you felt the cold hands of death embrace you at your shoulders. You opened your eyes quickly to find a young girl looking down at you in concern. Her wide blue eyes fringed by long lashes reminded you of a porcelain doll. The frigid bite of her fingers and her flawless features confirmed she was a ghost and one most likely buried here in St. Samael by the look of her outdated lilac petticoats. A giant bow rested at the back of her head, holding her raven hair away from her face as it cascaded over her shoulder.
“I miss my parents too.” the girl said quietly.
“What’s your name? What’s keeping you from passing on and joining them.” You ask softly.
“My name is Callitae, and I stayed so that I could visit my father who still roams this earth visible to the living.”
“That’s not possible, if your father were still on earth he would be a ghost same as you.” You said in confusion.
“My father is very much dead but it is not his time to turn to dust either. However, the wheel of time seems to be running quickly for you, it comforts me to know that in your heart it is not death you fear but loneliness.” And with those bleak words she vanished into the mist of dusk.
You made your way along the path to your car, careful not to trip over rocks and the overgrowth of the untamed forest as all the while you felt the eyes of an unfamiliar presence upon you wolflike in its intensity. You moved a little faster and didn’t look back.
~ One Year Later ~
Aldermire castle was at the very edge of Ampleforth, it was so named for its seemingly endless grounds of alder trees that swayed in honeyed light green shades against the sun. It was more of a manor than a castle but according to gossip that became legend, the man who once lived there with his wife and servants had the tastes and charisma of a king. He’d been a general during the battle of Cymadd with many honors to his name praising his valor and ferocity on the fields. This granted him favor in the eyes of many of the council but some were wary of him for he seemed to possess an almost inhuman tolerance for pain.
He’d survived the torture masters of the enemy when he was captured and taken prisoner as none before him had. When he’d come back home to Aldermire and his wife he’d seemed like a living corpse. He recovered quickly under his wife’s care however, and by spring their first and last child was born for the mother died soon after.
The master of Aldermire grew more reclusive in his grief and never took in visitors. He raised his daughter on his own but she was a delicate creature born before her time and prone to sickness easily. When she died of the plague that ravished Ampleforth faster than forest fire he lost the last anchor to life that he had and in his sorrow, it was said that he burned the castle locking himself inside as well. Even so, Aldermire was spared complete collapse as servants rushed to put out the flames but his body had never been found.
As you drove past the alder trees and took in the overgrown vines that clung to the castle like the brambles of Thornfield Hall in Jane Eyre, a sense of excitement washed over you. You’d tried to catch glimpses of the castle before in your childhood but the forest had been so thick and the barbed wires attached to ‘no trespassing’ signs had looked so menacing you’d given up until that morning when Emma had called to say that “the creepy castle” you’d always wanted to explore as a child was now sold to the new dental surgeon in town who had renovated it as his clinic.
It seemed the surgeon had appeared overnight, so quick were these renovations and appointments from patients in towns even farther than Lastshire but supposedly he’d been fixing the place a year in advance before ever stepping foot in Ampleforth. You supposed it was quite odd for a man of his profession to move so often but really what did you know of wealthy people and their judgment.
The grounds were beautiful with crimson roses and golden apple trees. It was like something out of a fairytale when you pulled up at the driveway and walked up the stone path. You knocked on the heavy wooden door with its brass knocker, your heart racing all the while as you tidied your appearance and took in the words in bronze lettering in Latin above the door that read: VENI, VIDI, VICI. I came, I saw, I conquered. An intriguing surgeon indeed.
A middle-aged woman opened the door with a smile, her red heels and black mini skirt made you feel a bit self-conscious in your jean shorts and white blouse as you followed the sway of her hips inside. You noticed the white gauze bandage at her neck and wondered at if for a moment before turning your attention to the interior of Aldermire.
You were happy to see that though the new owner had renovated the castle for a clinic he seemed to want to keep the atmosphere of what the estate might have been like before. While some rooms had been entirely rebuilt to resemble a white-walled art studio, others seemed untouched by time and filled with bookshelves, upholstered chairs, and artwork against the old stone walls.
You stopped in the hall to look at the paintings. All of them were memento mori’s displaying the reminder of mortality in its depictions of flower-filled vases, candles, fruits, and skulls.
You peeked into room after room till you came to one with a small shooting range. The door was wide open as all the others had been. It seemed the owner loved showing his collections to the public though you felt that this room should surely be locked. Guns lined the far wall along with other combat gear. Well, at least the weapons seemed secure behind the glass cases.
“The master of the house is an excellent hunter,” The receptionist said, turning to look at you. “I do believe it is one of his favorite hobbies.” You nodded, taking one last look at the room before continuing to follow her down the hall to yet another room with stark white walls.
“You may wait in this room,” the receptionist said with another bright smile as she motioned you forward into what looked like a surgical lounge chair with mirrors facing you on all sides. Before you could protest that you weren't planning on having any teeth extracted she was out of the room, shutting the door firmly behind her.
The room was far too cold. You shiver under the thin material of your blouse as you take in the smell of cleaning chemicals and fruity furniture spray. Your spine tingles at the waft of air that assaults you from the vent above your head, the metal chair you are seated in presses against the back of your thighs like ice.
Along the walls of the room were bookcases, carefully filed papers, a small world globe, and to your trepidation an entire metal table covered in a white cloth that was filled with instruments. Some of which you wondered if they really were for teeth or something else entirely. Your stomach twisted with apprehension as you took in the empty syringes but before you could make your way to the door you heard footsteps approaching and you quickly sat down again.
The door rattled open and you shifted your attention to the man who walked in. To your amazement, he was younger than you imagined. He in his mid-twenties maybe. He was very attractive which was not to be taken lightly in your mind for you had seen a great deal of beautiful spirits and judging by the way he held himself with such confidence in his stride he full well knew it too.
If you’d seen him anywhere else you would imagine he was a model or singer instead of a dental surgeon. He was dressed in the most strikingly bright red suit you had ever seen and his blond hair was combed back revealing his forehead in a contradictingly neat but disheveled manner as if he had just run his hand through it before walking in.
“Hello, are you Dr. Lee?” You said.
His smile was bright enough to be plastered on every teeth-whitening poster in the lobby. “Please call me Taemin,” he said with a pronounced accent. You remember reading that he had transferred ownership of his successful clinic in South Korea to travel abroad setting up clinics from state to state and renting out large houses. Again you wondered why a surgeon as successful as he would travel so much. But then maybe he just liked the change of scenery. Certainly if you had the opportunity to see the world you would take it. Your brain was trying to piece the whole thing together rationally but under his very direct gaze, you felt exposed and flustered as you never had before.
“What is your name?” He asked as he went to a drawer at the side of the chair and pulled out a white apron that fastened at the hips. His leg brushed yours as he closed the drawer and you shifted in your seat. His proximity making you nervous and excited even. The way his familiar blue eyes seemed to pierce you as he asked such an ordinary question made you wonder if what he really asked for was so much more. Where had you seen eyes like his before? You felt a bit lightheaded the more you tried to remember.
At this moment you believed that if this total stranger asked anything of you, you’d give in without hesitation. There was something captivating about his aura, possessive even. For the first time in your life, you found yourself enjoying the feeling of being so inexorably won over, it was more than a little intoxicating.
You mumbled your name aloud, thankful that your voice didn’t shake.
Taemin proceeded to put on elbow-length black gloves made of soft glittering velvet. Definitely not something anyone would want to use on a patient, you thought. They were more fit for a goth cinderella at a Halloween mask ball than anything else. This image would have made you laugh if it wasn’t for the fact that he looked so damn sexy putting them on. He held one of the gloves between his teeth as he pulled the fabric slowly up his arm.
When he finished he came so close to your ear you could smell his cologne full of spice and gardenias as he whispered, “I think you know I’m not the kind of dentist you’re used to” his hot breath against your earlobe and his words made your heart race and your legs squeeze together. Your curiosity overriding your fear as you answered,
“I’m more than okay with that.”
He pulled back and smiled warmly, seemingly satisfied by this answer. He brought his gloved fingertip to your collarbone and moved his hand slowly till his fingers clasped your chin pulling it up to look at him. His eyes changed from blue to crimson and before you could fully process the fact that yet another one of your lovers was undoubtedly inhuman, his plump lips were at your neck kissing a trail down your chest as he effortlessly unbuttoned your blouse and unpinned your bra, throwing each to the floor.
Your entire body was on fire now and he hadn’t even begun. You felt your body arch into his kisses on your skin and you gasped as you looked down to see him unzipping your jeans with his teeth. He pulled the material past your ankles and tossed them aside as well.
His gloved hands spread your knees apart as if you were a book he so desperately wanted to read. His lips moved to the inside of your thighs, nipping at your skin lightly as he went and purposely skipping over where you craved him the most. It was torturous till he blew on your already embarrassingly wet underwear, sending a shiver through you.
“You have no self-control,” He said with amusement. “We can change that,” he lifted your hips and removed the last article of clothing before kneeling before you. And then he was painting butterflies against you with every skillful stroke of his tongue. Your small whimpers escalated to moans as you disheveled his hair further.
“You want it more, don’t you?” Taemin said, pulling away and licking his lips. “And you’ll always be left wanting more, thirsting for more of me.”
“Yes, I do want you,” you said boldly surprised by your own shameless actions as you pulled him closer.
“My patients are usually so boring,” he said with a devilish laugh. Handsome devil. You thought as he continued. “Usually a syringe of blood is all I take and I tidy their minds so that they forget any unpleasant feelings but with you, no. Compulsion is not necessary, I want you to savor every moment till you fall for me without limit, beyond all instinct or reasoning just as I have fallen for you.”
He moves to your neck again and this time you could feel sharp teeth graze your skin. He gripped your shoulders before piercing your flesh with his fangs. Your initial gasp of pain soon turns to pleasure as he drinks heavily from you. In a world overrun by ghosts why did the existence of vampires surprise you? You gazed into the mirrors that surrounded you and watched as blood trickled across your skin. Taemin’s reflection was nowhere to be seen, light seeped through him as if he wasn’t there at all. An airy groan escapes you again when he pulls your hair back to allow better access to your neck.
You move from the chair to stand and raise one leg to his hip. He loosens his grip on your hair then, taking you by the waist and lifting you effortlessly, mounting you against him. “What sweet forbidden fruit you are.” He says as he licks the droplets of blood left on your neck and circles the two small punctures with his tongue so harshly you’re sure it will bruise.
“I’m all you will see now, I’m your new world,” Taemin said before sealing that promise with a kiss. His lips claim yours hungrily and you responded just as fiercely, your tongue probing his in a battle for dominance as you moved against him. The taste of him and the mingling coppery trace of your blood made you realize you’d been starving and only he could satiate you now.
He carried you across the room, opening a door in the back that led to what must have been his bedroom. He gently set you on the floor and you took in the room. It was dimly lit with beautiful candelabras, an armour, and several paintings. The bed with its intricately carved mahogany headboard and satin white sheets was at the center.
“Get on the bed, love.” He says as he moves towards the corner of the room.
You do so nervously, laying back against the pillows and watching Taemin open a cage. Your eyes widen as black snakes slither free. They seemed to stop and look to him for guidance and Taemin looked them in the eye and said, “be gentle with our new pet.”
Your heart beats wildly as the snakes come toward you but you dare not move. This was some sort of test you knew and even though a small part of you wanted to bolt, a larger, more insistent thrum of curiosity and anticipation overwhelmed you. The snakes were each quite beautiful in the way that some lovely things are terrifying. Their glossy scales shone under the candlelight as two furled around your ankles and two more held your wrists bound against the bedposts. They were long enough that their bodies circled the posts several times. Their pink forked-tongues seemed to taunt you as they watched you squirm. Another glided up your stomach and between your breasts only to coil itself around your neck and fall asleep against the warmth of your skin.
“You are a prisoner to it all now, my love,” Taemin said as he removed his right glove with his teeth and slipped two fingers inside you. You engulfed him greedily, blissfully surrendering to the slow movements of his fingers and the way you lost control of your hips as you writhed against your restraints. “You’re a prisoner to this heat, to my touch, and to my voice.” He said in a singsong that encompassed your senses.
“I’ll tease you slowly,” Taemin said as his gloved hand rubbed circles against you, the velvety fabric sending shockwaves coursing through your body to the tips of your toes as they curled. “-Until the only name you taste against that pretty little mouth of yours is mine.” Your shuddering climax is met with erratic breaths as you will yourself not to beg for more. Here you were bare and shaking sweatily before him as he stood, still fully clothed and collected looking down on you with that deceitfully cherubic face. It sent daggers to your pride and yet how willingly you accepted your fate.
Sensing your thoughts he began to undress as calmly and languorously as he did everything else. He seemed to take delight in the show he was putting on for you. His eyes glowed with mischief as he undid the last button of his suit and you found yourself unable to look away. He was muscular yet grace filled his form. He was a walking paradox, lithe and powerful all at once.
“My very existence is a sin,” Taemin said as he climbed onto the bed. “An unholy predator whose thirst will never be satisfied. And you love, are my prey.”
He kissed you again and suddenly you found that the world was no longer monochrome but dripping with color. You felt alive as you never had before. The grey world died as his naked body danced with your naked soul and you felt as if you were drenched in light. Vulnerable yet safe, adrift in a pure deep sea. You wanted to drown in this time with him, you crashed into one another as waves on a moon-white shore.
You want to trace the valley of his arms, you want to touch him though you can’t reach him. That is when you feel the snakes release you. You embrace him fully and in this moment, words aren’t necessary.
You surfaced breathless and entranced as you took in his eyes again, they melted into deep blue once more. Your hearts beat to the same rhythm as Taemin moved to lay beside you. It was at that moment as he held you in his arms that your memory resurfaced, his eyes were the same as the raven-haired girl’s in the graveyard you’d seen a year before. She had her father’s eyes you realized.
He seemed to read the question in your eyes for he said, “Yes, Callie is my daughter. She was born here and she died here within these walls just as her mother did. It was my fault she died.” He said, shaking his head. “My wife couldn't bear to see me suffer, when the enemy commander turned me into a monster I turned against them and after that massacre I refused to follow my new instincts and feed. I was stubborn and prideful and when I came back to her arms I was weak. She gave me her blood without care for herself and like a beast, I drained her slowly and gave in to what we wanted most: a child. She couldn’t have known how baring a Child of Night would cause her to suffer but I should have known better. If I hadn’t weakened her so, if-”
“Shhh,” You drew your fingers to his lips to silence him and pulled him to your breast, wrapping your arms around him firmly. “She loved you and she did what she wanted to do for you and for her beautiful daughter. I know that she wouldn’t have wanted anything more than to have her no matter the consequence.”
He took your wrist and brought it to his lips, then he traced your blue veins with the pad of his thumb before he said, “I knew from the moment I beheld you laying in the graveyard under that brilliant amber sunset that your soul was seeking mine. I pursued you shamelessly afterward as if you were tethered to me and I couldn’t let you go. You haunted my thoughts and made me care as I never thought I could again. It is a lie that the Children of Night are soulless and heartless, ours are bound to this earth as much as any mortal and they burn just as brightly.”
You entwined your fingers with his.
“In your eyes I saw that we both shared the same spirit.” Taemin said brushing a kiss to your forehead. “We both fear being trapped but most of all we fear the way we isolate ourselves, there is no life, no death for us but rather a long and lonely road filled with people who see straight through us.”
“I know what you mean,” You said. “We are alone in ways no one else can begin to understand and yet I want to know you better than I know myself.”
“I never want to lose the one I love ever again,” Taemin said earnestly, he took your hands in his and squeezed them. “Would you spend forever with me till the earth itself crumbles with the weight of falling stars? Would you give me your soul to hold as my equal? All that I ask of you is to love me, respect me, obey me and I will be your slave for all of eternity.”
“Then I am yours completely, in heart, body, and soul, I am yours just as you are mine.” You said.
“It won't be painless,” He said with worry written in his eyes.
“Death is earned is it not?” You said, looking at him confidently. “I trust you.” You said more quietly.
“You scare me a great deal.” He said. You laughed at that, raising an eyebrow quizzically.
“Why?” You asked.
“Because you make me want to be a better man. My love, I am no angel. I am devious.” He ran his free palm against your cheek and you leaned into his touch. “My hands are stained from murder, and yet you trust them completely. I am selfish to want you and cruel to take you into darkness with me. I am a demanding creature but I am your servant.”
He took off one of his rings and slipped it onto your finger. It was gold inlaid with sapphire jewels the color of his eyes in the shape of a laurel crest. “This will protect you from the sunlight once the transition is completed.” Taemin said, rubbing his thumb over your knuckles and over the ring. “Never take it off, promise me.”
“I promise.”
He brought his right hand to his mouth, his fangs elongated once more as they had when he’d feed on you and in one swift motion he pierced his wrist. His deep purple-red blood spilled like wine across the sheets. He took the blood into his mouth before bringing his lips to yours.
His blood scorched the walls of your throat and trickled at the corner of your mouth. It singed the skin of your heart till you felt so full of him that you didn’t know whose body belonged to whom anymore. It was a dizzying kind of love, hypnotic and consuming in its luster. Sometimes love is sweet, You thought. You were drunk on this emotion and the taste of him. He was under your skin, he was flowing through your veins.
He licked the blood that had dripped at the corner of your mouth clean and pulled away to look at you. “Until we meet again, love.” Taemin said, before placing a satin covered pillow over your face.
Sometimes love is brutally soft. You thought as you lost consciousness.
~ Epilogue ~
His scent tickles your nose and calls your limbs to arise from the ashes of your former self.
“Welcome to hell my queen.”
The voice in the darkness was sweet to hear. Your eyes open, light purple and full of lethal newborn lust for the blood of your sire, your soulmate, your king who smiles above you.
The impulse to feed is like a maelstrom consuming your senses. All you want is him, his blood, and his body against yours. He lays on the bed beside you and tilts his head in invitation.
You crawl towards him, straddling his hips and piercing your fangs to his throat eagerly. You nibble and mewl against his collarbone when his skin does not break beneath you. He laughs at your frustration and gently strokes your hair. He reaches for your chin, lifting it to eye level and brushing the pad of his fingers against your small fangs till the tiniest drops of blood fall and you lick his fingers clean.
“You're like a newborn kitten,” Taemin says in your mind. His voice inside your head sends a ripple of joy through your body. You'd thought you’d learned what true unity felt like but you’d never experienced this, an all-consuming warmth and wholeness. “Try again innocent one, this time tilt your head upwards as you elongate your fangs.”
Your desire to please him was almost as vigorous as your hunger. You moved to his neck again and did as he instructed.
“That’s my kitten,” he said. You beam under his praise as you quench your thirst. You find it’s not enough and you move to his lips instead. You kissed him like nightfall devouring the sun, an eclipse under a diamond sky. You were dangerous now you thought with glee as Taemin pulled you closer, closer towards the whisper of forever. And then you smiled when he said in your mind, When we align, will you or I be the moon? You bit his bottom lip and tugged it playfully in reply.

WHY I LOVE ZADR!!!
HEY GUYS WHASSUP? LMAO
So this is a whole ass giant long post of me absolutely spewing my feelings of love for ZADR, it was the very first thing I wrote when I made this blog and I think it’s a nice, positive thing for my fellow shippers to inhale and enjoy 👌👌
it was originally a reply to mitarashiart’s post about why HE loves ZADR (link in replies) but I decided to delete that and make my own post since MY WHOLE ENTIRE TEXT WALL WAS SHOWN IN THE REPLIES and drowned out anyone else who was trying to talk (thanks tumblr mobile u fuckin idiot)
I had also posted a summary of an AU that I’m working on in the original post, but decided to remove it since it just about doubled the length (I’m thinking about posting it separately along with the wips I’ve been putting together, we’ll see 👀)
But ANYWAY, here is about a million reasons why I think ZADR is the fucking best, so if you like reading gushy gay ship feelings, please enjoy ❤️❤️❤️
[Posted June 2019][WARNING, LONG ASS THOUGHT BARF]
SOOO, holy hell y’all my journey back into this fandom has been a wild and unique experience for me, i went from adding invader zim to my bookmarks on kisscartoon, rewatching the series, finding out theres a movie coming out, finding out there was a shitload of content i’d never seen before (commentaries, lost episode scripts and audios, panels, the COMIC, episodes i’d never seen because the dvd i used to watch was scratched!! and a FUCKLOAD of quality modern fan art like oh my GOD) and finally curiously googling ‘zadr’ (which i was way into when i was maybeee 13/14) to see if there was any interesting new art, and holy hell, mita (the artist above) singlehandedly THREW me down the hole into modern zadr hell, first with his absolutely stunning IZ art (all his art is dope tho check him out yo), then reading the above explanation put the final nail in the coffin like, 100%
so i wanted to add onto his post here on why this ship got me so fucked up, both for anyone who might be wondering why on earth i’m shipping two characters from a kid’s show (i’m very aware how weird that is at first glance trust me) and also so i can get some ideas down for possible future reference (will i ever draw them? maybe)
(first of all, a disclaimer, and this is not pleasant to write but it’s important to address for clarity’s sake: I have no interest in romantic or sexual relationships between minors, and do not ship zim and dib as they are presented canonically in the show (as children). what i’m interested in is the conceptualized relationship they may have as modern adults, and i view zadr more as taking the concepts of existing characters and experimenting with them with different interpretations, which i personally think is a constructive and fun creative outlet, especially if these characters hold personal significance for you (childhood faves of course). growing up together is an important facet of their relationship, and certainly they were important to each other even as children (see: mopiness of doom) but as an adult i’m personally curious about what kind of adults they might’ve become, and that’s the focus of my interest. i’ll still be reblogging regular IZ art because it’s dope but if you see shippy looking art of them as tiny lil beans its either friendship or chibis (and i personally headcanon zim as getting taller with dib but some people stick with his canonical height when drawing them as adults, which is super short. it still doesn’t mean he’s a kid). aaand i wish i didnt have to write this and it would just be obvious but we live in a sick sad world and it is sourced from a children’s cartoon so i feel its necessary. end of disclaimer)
NOW THAT THAT’S OUT OF THE WAY
- ok, first reason’s a bit obvious - the nostalgia. holy hell, the feeling of rediscovering a ship that was popular when i was a preteen during the mid 2000s and discovering a totally new perspective on it as an adult comes with an almost totally overwhelming sense of nostalgia and comfort, as well as inspiration!! the kind of art that seems so common for zadr, these sketch pages of scenes and expressions and visual gags where artists would just scribble every idea they had and LOVE doing it, this was exactly the kind of art that made me so passionate about drawing as a kid, and it still sparks such a powerful feeling of love and admiration for me to this day. fan content of iz and zadr is simultaneously achingly familiar and totally new and fascinating, and it just makes me SO damn happy to consume, it is most definitely my new comfort content. and just, GOD. THE ART!! SO GOOD. FUCK
- now for the characters themselves: for some reason i just really love the thought of a mid twenties, modern Dib?? lanky goth dork, disaster bi, depressed as shit, uses bad sweaters and memes to cope?? when i was a kid i didn’t even LIKE Dib, but now i totally sympathize with him! he’s just a hyper obsessive nerd wishing there was more to life than the situation he got stuck with, how wildly relatable. he was a pretty big asshole as a kid (even to people besides zim) but he was also totally isolated and constantly bullied, so there’s a lot of room for growth. i feel there’s a lot of juicy character development potential for that boy, and there’s always been a special place in my heart for characters who are totally sad and screwed and hopeless, but there’s one thing, or person, that means the world to them and could possibly save them…
- aliens. Zim. i love nonhuman characters, i love monsters, i love aliens, i love characters that don’t understand human shit (and thus have much less room for shame or fear bc theyre just totally oblivious the negatives of modern society) and need guidance (bonding!!) from their human. i also love morally grey characters and characters with skewed logic, they’re always really interesting, and Zim himself just has such a unique personality and set of mannerisms, he contradicts himself a lot and you can never quite expect how he’ll behave, and i love that in a character, it makes them super versatile and fun, especially since there’s so many different possibilities for their development. Also, Zim is a gremlin, a little shit, and a disaster. I also love those traits in a character. And don’t even get me started on his character design?? big sparkly eyes? expressive antennae? monster teeth? complimenting colors? he’s adorable.
- mutual obsession. for someone like Dib, who seems almost repulsed by how boring and slow the people around him are, Zim quite literally personifies Dib’s escapist fantasies, both as an inhuman entity from beyond the stars, and as a person who’s knowledge, charisma and mystery far exceeds that of anyone Dib has met in his entire life. (so basically what i’m saying is that for a shunned, jaded misanthropist, an actual alien is terribly alluring, even if said alien is dangerous, stupid, and possibly insane). not to mention Zim vindicates Dib’s entire life passion, the supernatural! Even when their relationship is totally negative, there is not a single inch of room for Dib to get tired of Zim. as mita explained, they validate each other. for Zim, WHO AGAIN, IS TOTALLY SHUNNED, ISOLATED, AND HATED BY EVERYONE HE KNOWS, Dib is the only person in the universe who gives a single shit about him!! he gives Zim credit as a threat, a capable invader, which if you ask me is the sole thing Zim is after (he’s hellbent on his mission because it would win him the approval of the tallest, all he’s ever wanted is recognition from the people he thinks so highly of). He literally gets depressed when Dib isn’t around to pay attention to him, not even the tallest were enough to motivate him before Dib came back. these two have no one and nothing without each other, and while lifelong nemeses is fine and dandy, i personally prefer friendship, affection and love, cause i’m a softie like that. how could they possibly get there after years of actively trying to kill each other?? well, i think under just the right circumstances it could become a possibility after a long, long time.
- growth. i. love. me. some. good. character growth. especially for characters with trauma/mental illness, bc again, relatable. these boys have issues, and as mita mentioned, their canon stories are actually INCREDIBLY sad! but the happy thought is, they could recover! they could help each other recover, for little reason other than the two are the only source of happiness for each other. now of course this also opens the gate for angst lovers, but at the same time offers potential for comforting, uplifting content of the boys supporting and inspiring each other, maybe even to the point of becoming happy and healthy enough to create the lives they want for themselves (as in appreciating life and doing things that make them actually happy instead of the delusions of grandeur they both sought when they were younger). gimme that positive shit and let the poor beans be happy щ(ಠ益ಠщ)
- LITTLE THINGS. LITTLE THINGS THAT ONLY COME WITH CHILDHOOD FRIENDS. WITH HUMAN/NONHUMAN. WITH THE SHOW’S WEIRD LOGIC. Zim being the person Dib knows best and vice versa. Zim having an involuntary respect/admiration for Dib because he’s tall. Learning each other’s needs, limits, and communication methods, both emotionally and biologically. Sensitive antennae. Affectionate bickering. Being less insecure bc your partner literally has no idea why you see your flaws as flaws. Laughing at the flaws they do notice because they make no sense. Zim only wanting to eat waffles and chow mein. Dib being forced to overcome his depression lethargy and stay hygienic/keep the apartment clean because Zim has a sharper sense of smell and is afraid of germs. Endless conversation about anything and everything because they’re from literally different worlds, and endless intrigue. TOUCHING. TALKING. DOING EVERYTHING LIKE ITS THE VERY FIRST TIME AND ALWAYS NEEDING THE OTHER TO GUIDE THEM. HOLY HELL THERE IS SO MUCH POSSIBILITY FOR TINY LITTLE MOMENTS THAT MEAN THE WORLD. FUCK. GOT ME FUCKED UP.
so that wraps up the why. fuck man. its just such a good ship. if you read this big ass text post, thank you for indulging me, i hope you enjoyed it! because i enjoy it very much 👀 so stick around if you’d like to for a shit load of IZ and zadr content on this blog, possibly (MAYBE) even from me!! come roll around in alien hell with me why dontcha ᕕ( ᐛ )ᕗ its a fun time! thanks for reading!!!

forget-me-not ; ch 1
fandom: mr. love: queen’s choice
pairing: gavin/reader
genre: fluff, angst
word count: 2.6k
summary: You, a stubborn and insecure woman who really needs a shoulder to lean on. Him, a strong and dependable man who strives to protect those dear to him. One would think it a match made in heaven - but in reality, things don’t go quite as smoothly.
a/n: reader doesn’t take on the role of mlqc’s original mc; credits to @rynkao for not only inspiring me to do this, but also writing the plot with me, advising me and letting me know whenever something needed fixing; thank you @just-lazy-croc for reading all of my drafts and supporting me; more at the end!

As per routine, you were following the same path you always took on Fridays. Your life wasn't exactly in order. But if there was something that remained constant, it was this. You had always thought the building huge, almost maze-like, so the fact that you no longer needed help with directions was certainly an achievement. The long, seemingly endless halls were swarmed by people. And noise. So much noise, you were glad your earphones were plugged in. From uncertainty, despair, regret, desperation and all the way to relief, their gazes portrayed the internal struggles they were going through.
You merely minded your own business as you were passing by. It wasn't that you were heartless or wished despair upon anyone, no - after all, you were fully aware of how impactful accidents and illnesses could be. But looks of pity from strangers aren't exactly appreciated by everyone. Some people prefer to suffer in silence or keep to themselves, so they might wind up doing more bad than good.
You could relate to that too.
Nevertheless, there was a second reason why you were rushing. That Friday was different, the colorful bouquet in your hands said as much. It had been exactly eight years since the accident. Eight years since you caused someone's life to take a turn for the worse. And eight years since you started paying weekly visits to the hospital.
Upon finally reaching your destination, you lightly knocked on the door and opened it. The room was no different from before, silent and welcoming. "Hey, Em," you quietly said, after closing the door behind you and heading towards the windowsill. There, a single blue hydrangea stood lonely. You had left it the prior week, so its once outstanding beauty now wilted. "I brought you some really nice flowers this time.
"Lying on the hospital bed was a girl with long, brown hair, early in her twenties, and your best friend during high school. Much like the sleeping beauty, Emily had closed her eyes one day and didn't open them since. It had been nothing but an accident, truly. If only she hadn't run off the way she did, that car wouldn't have crashed into her. If only the two of you hadn't argued back then, she would've been alright now. She would've been living her life the way she wanted, not like a vegetable stuck to a bed. She would've been.. happy. "If only-" you shook your head so as not to further that line of thinking. These doubts were always present in your mind, haunting and tormenting; but now was not the time.
So you resumed arranging the flowers. You took out the hydrangea and carefully placed the fresh lilies. Since they were her favorite flowers, you decided to have a special bouquet arranged for this occasion. They were pretty. Colorful. Alive. You couldn't help but stare at them for a while before finally taking a seat by Emily's bedside and unplugging your earphones.
"I haven't managed to sell any paintings this week either," you spoke up, disappointment clear in your tone, "but college has been otherwise going pretty well." This is how your visits always went: telling your friend about your everyday life, recalling fun memories from your past and asking her questions you knew you wouldn't get an answer to. "My part-time job hasn't been too bad either, apart from your usual snobs here and there," you made sure to add with a sour face.
The only sounds disrupting the silence were the constant beeps of the heart monitor. Visiting Emily had always represented some sort of escape from reality. Of course, you also wanted to see her, but you couldn't deny the existence of other reasons. For one, you were trying to atone. To push away the demons haunting you. On the other hand, it was during your visits that you finally had peace, both in your mind and surroundings. You could finally relax, hear your own voice and that of your subconscious.
It wasn't an exaggeration to say that everything around you was so full of noise, you couldn't even think properly. After all, you were different. You, much unlike normal people, were capable of hearing others' thoughts - or as movies so eloquently put it, mind reading. It seemed like a scenario taken straight out of a really bad fanfiction. Which is why, back when you first discovered your ability, you thought your lack of sleep had finally caught up with you; and you must've been hearing things.
A few similar occurrences later, that assumption proved to be false. But if that was indeed reality and you could actually read minds.. then just what was going on? What caused that sudden change in you? Was there a way to get rid of it? And more importantly, were there any other people like you? Hundreds upon hundreds of questions were swarming in your head. You thought about talking to your parents but reconsidered after imagining their reactions. "They probably wouldn't even give me the time of the day", which was justifiable, considering you had superpowers. So, like any other person in the 21st century who sought answers, you decided to consult the internet.
It took a lot of digging. You had to go past thousands of movie reviews, superhero stories and game synopses before you could finally find something useful. While not about mind reading specifically, you did manage to learn a few new things. One, superpowers were real and referred to as evols. Two, people all over the world had evols, but they were kept secret for the most part. And three, there was no way to get rid of them. Or if there was, no one had ever revealed or mentioned anything about it.
Your research done, you proceeded to bookmark a few websites and go on with your life as usual. Your evol could get quite annoying at times - during exams, for instance, you involuntarily heard some of your classmates' thoughts and therefore had trouble concentrating. But it was bearable. You thought that, with time, you'd get used to it.
Oh, but how wrong you were.
Fate has a way of toying with people, and as you grew up, so did the power within you. It got bigger. Larger. It grew to the point where it was uncontrollable. Albeit without your intent, you were able to hear what anybody near you was thinking. The closer they were to you, the louder the voices in your head. You could no longer differentiate thoughts from sentences, not even when they were yours. You had long lost control. Hell, did you even have it in the first place?
That power took away your peace. It was slowly driving you mad, but you had to stay strong. Because you knew. You knew it must've been a punishment for what you'd done, for ruining your best friend's life. So you learned to live with it, and in the process, music became your best friend. It was the only thing you could think to do, in order to at least drown out the noise.
"If only everyone was as kind as you, I'd be rich right now," you couldn't help but sigh, as you left your chin to rest on your hand. Closing your eyes, you tried to imagine how that scenario would go. "Then I'd be able to buy us tickets to one of Kiro's concerts. You haven't heard any of his songs yet, but I just know you'd be madly in love with them."
It was true. You had a pretty good grasp of Emily's taste in music, and Kiro's definitely fit the bill. Not only that, but he was also the most popular idol in Loveland - for good reason. He was charismatic, really good at what he was doing and his looks were pretty up there as well. Kiro wasn't involved in any scandals either, so you just couldn't dislike him. "Or maybe I could go on a vacation. You know, escape from the city and all the noise that comes with it. Just me, the sun, and-" But before you could continue, the sound of the door creaking pulled you out of your fantasies.
Expecting it to be someone part of the hospital staff, you lazily opened your eyes and directed your gaze towards the entrance. What you were met with, however, wasn't a doctor or a nurse. It was a well-built, tall man with short chestnut brown hair. He was wearing a simple white shirt with a blue denim jacket on top, leaving part of his collarbone exposed. As your (e/c) eyes met a pair of golden ones, widening in realization, you were sent back to that day. "You're.."
Last time you saw him, the two of you were still in high school. He was shorter then and his shoulders weren’t as broad, but he otherwise remained pretty much the same. As for his personality, you knew he used to be a troublemaker - according to the rumors circulating between students, at least.
You didn’t believe a word. Not after what he’d done. Not after how, without caring about the dangers it involved, he tried to save Emily. His presence at the scene had been a mere coincidence; but as soon as he saw the car fast approaching, he started running. “Watch out!” He didn’t stop to consider calling someone for help or think about the situation he was in.
He just saw someone in danger. And decided to act.
Something you didn’t, as you stood there petrified. You watched as your best friend ran towards the street without paying attention to where she was going. You watched as this boy called out to her and attempted to push her out of the way. You watched as the car crashed into her body because the boy was a few seconds too late. All you did was watch as the scene unfolded right before your eyes. You were in so much shock that you couldn’t even cry. Not that you would have allowed yourself to, anyway. After all, you weren’t the one in pain.
You were just a bystander, there to witness faith follow its course. That boy, however... He was a hero. Someone who, without giving it another thought, helped people in need; all out of his own free will. You hadn’t seen anyone display such bravery before. A category you knew full well you were part of. The two of you were so different, you never thought you'd meet him again... Yet there he was now, standing in front of you.
“Gavin,” he suddenly spoke up as if to finish your earlier sentence, “from high school. But judging by the look on your face, you remembered as much.”
It then dawned upon you that you must’ve been staring. Cursing internally for your failed first impression, you quickly got up from your seat and extended your right hand towards him. “S-Sorry for spacing out like that! I’m (y/n), also from high school. But I’m guessing you knew that already.” Gavin lightly shook your hand whilst you scratched your neck in embarrassment, eyes landing on the bouquet you hadn’t noticed he was holding. Lilies.
“Oh, do you want some help with those?” No sooner had the words left your mouth, than you immediately regretted it. He most likely came in expecting to be alone, to see Emily and maybe some of her relatives; having an old acquaintance around wouldn't exactly count as privacy.
"On second thought, I should probably-" but he interrupted you before you could finish your sentence. "Sure, thank you." His lips curled up in a small smile as he handed you the flowers. After replying with an awkward "Make yourself comfortable..?", you took them gingerly and headed towards the windowsill once more.
Flower arrangement wasn't something you were particularly into, but you liked to think that you had an artistic sense for it. You were, after all, a painter and you loved art. Albeit it didn't really seem to love you back.
You removed the ribbons keeping both bouquets' lilies tied together and freed them in the vase. Since you didn't have a specific design in mind, you just let your hands move them around playfully. You heard Gavin’s footsteps as he went to sit where you previously had been. And then there was silence. Not the comforting sort, it was rather the kind of silence that made you want to just run away.
"Oh God, what am I supposed to do now? I can't just leave, but sitting in complete silence like this is unbearable. Then again, what can I even say? «Hey, so how's life been?» That's too awkward!"
Wait, backtrack a bit. Silence? Your movements stopped abruptly. By now you'd normally hear everything he was thinking, every sentence going through his mind. ..So why weren't you? Not that you were complaining, of course - getting into others' brains wasn't something you wished to do, and that wouldn't ever change.
However, that wasn't the first time something like this had happened. There'd been a few people present in your life whose thoughts you couldn't hear. But you never managed to put your finger on why. Did they have something that prevented your ability from working? If they did, would you be able to procure it too? And did that mean you could finally stop it for granted?
You stole a quick glance at Gavin, who was looking at Emily. You couldn’t see his face very well, but you could’ve sworn you heard a really faint, almost unnoticeable “I’m sorry.” Seeing as that was all you heard and he didn’t show any signs of moving, you decided to just brush it off, “Yeah, I must’ve imagined it.”
Going back to your train of thought, maybe today was your lucky day. Maybe this man represented an important clue in finding the answers you sought. Maybe talking to him would help you learn more about your evol. Maybe, just maybe, the Universe finally decided you had enough suffering and gave you a chance. Or maybe not, and you were completely wrong.
Even so, you definitely couldn't let this opportunity slip by.
"Hey, umm.. would you like to head to a café and catch up on things? I know a good place." He turned his head to look at you and you used the chance to add, "Oh, only if you're free! I wouldn't want to inconvenience you." It was a pretty sudden invitation, so you anxiously awaited his response expecting a rejection. If he refused, your only lead at the moment would be gone and you’d continue your life as usual. After seemingly considering it for a few seconds, he finally replied.
"Of course."

a/n: aaaahh i’m sorry there’s not a lot of gavin in this chapter!! i wanted to properly introduce the main character and her backstory, also no, emily isn’t the original mc i assure you - dating your high school crush is nice, but i just?? want gavin to naturally fall in love with someone else?? i haven’t seen something like this done often, and if i’m motivated enough this should be a preeetty long fic,,. so i guess we’ll see how it goes. anyway!!!! no one cares but this all started because of a really soft dream i happened to have of gavin?? where he was super nice to me and i actually got to touch him???? idk how that happened but it did so now i’m turning it into a fanfic. which reminds me, please keep in mind i’ve never seriously written before, so whilst i may not be the best now i’ll make sure to improve along the way! Hey! Could you suggest me any good soulmate fics? I've already read two and I got addicted. (Thank youuu!)
Hi Lovely!
I don’t have many, and I know I’m missing a couple because I can’t remember their names and they probably aren’t tagged on AO3, so I didn’t add them to this list (like I can’t remember for the life of me what the fic is where Sherlock has electricity powers and John is the one who can stabilize them for Sherlock… it’s bugging me because I’ve gone through my bookmarks like 7 times D:). ANYWAY, I have put some some soulmate AU’s on this rec list here before, but let’s make a strictly Soulmate AU list, yeah?
So here are soulmate-ish fics! Please feel free, my friends, to add your own recs or let me know what that fic is I’m thinking of because it’s driving me cray, LOL.
SOULMATES AND SOUL BONDS
what’s in a name by flight815kitsune (NR, 1,285 w. || Soulmates AU) – There were some things you just knew. The name, if you were lucky enough to get one, was one of those things.
To Mend A Heart by dee-light (G, 1,472 w. || Magical Realism, Emotional H/C) – Hearts can be broken, and mended, and broken again. Good thing, then, that hearts are only the seat of all emotion, and not something Sherlock needs in order to live.
the fearful passage of death-mark’d love by flibbertygigget (T, 1,980 w. || Magical Realism, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Platonic Life Partners, Name Marks, Referenced Deaths) – The first time that John meets Sherlock Holmes, the younger man has his sleeves pushed up to his elbows, wrists bare of any hint of ink. Within 48 hours, John has added “Jefferson Hope” to his clavicle. (Or: The One Where, When You Kill Someone, Their Name Shows Up On Your Arm)
Upon Waking by joolabee (E, 3,901 w. || Mild Dub Con, Magical Realism, Angst, Somnophilia) – It sets on slow: John can only be awake while Sherlock sleeps, and vice versa. Their lives are codependent, but never meeting. Like a set of scales.
Winter of Life by You_Light_The_Sky (T, 5,178 w. || Christmas, Fluff & Angst, Magic Realism) – It was an experiment, really. On Christmas, Sherlock wrote to Santa asking for a friend. He got a broken toy soldier instead. This is the story of how he finds him again and again.
The Heart On Your Sleeve by flawedamythyst (T, 5,441 w. || Soulmate AU || Sherlock POV, Heartmarks, Pining, Fluff and Angst, Semi-S1 / S2 Canon Compliant, Reunion) – Sherlock stared at the imperfect circle on his left wrist in horror, then sat down on his bed with a bit of a thump. After over thirty years, his heartmark was finally showing activity. This was not good.
Finding John by orphan_account (T, 5,456 w. || Soul Bond AU, Symbolic Rings, Soul Mates) – Sherlock Holmes has met exactly twenty-four Johns in his life. They have all been the wrong John. He’s getting tired of waiting, staring at the inscription on his finger and wondering when his John will turn up, if ever. Part 1 of Inscriptions
The Best Picture of the Human Soul by SwissMiss (T, 5,779 w. || Magical Realism, Tattoos, Soulmates) – The stories of our lives are written on our skin. Part 1 of Imagines Moti
The Most Luminous of People by liriodendron (M, 10,979 w. || Synesthesia, Pre-Slash, Developing Romance, First Kiss) – In which Sherlock Holmes finds out what it’s like to truly want something, John Watson isn’t too bad at deductions, and everything gets a bit bright for a minute. Part 1 of Conductivity
The River Variations by withoutawish (T, 11,619 w. || Soulmates, Emotional Hurt / Comfort, Three Garridebs, Romance, Light Case Fic, Near Death Experience, Angst and Fluff) – John Watson never knew that he wanted a ‘no toast in the mornings’ normal until he realized what an honor it is to be destroyed by Sherlock Holmes.
With All My Heart by QuinnAnderson (E, 19,257 w. || Red Marks / Soulmates || Magical Realism, Growing Up, First Kiss / Time, Falling in Love) – AU in which every time a person falls in love, a red line like a tally mark appears on their wrist. Sherlock is determined to keep himself from ever gaining one of these marks for fear that love will corrode his mental faculties. Then he meets John Watson.
An Experiment in Apathy Series by belovedmuerto (G to E, 28,701 w. across 13 stories || Empath John, Empath-by-Proxy Sherlock, Epic Bromance Becomes Romance, Angst, Nightmares, Experiments, Trauma, Dreams) – “No man is an island, John. You less so than most.” A sequel to the EiE Series, wherein John and Sherlock explore their relationship.
The Soul Remembers by i_ship_an_armada (E, 43,636 w. || Oblivion AU || Post-Apocalypse, Movie Fusion, Science Fiction, Action/Adventure, Angst, Dreams, Bittersweet Ending) – John Watson is the lone security repairman stationed on a desolate, nearly-ruined future Earth. His dreams are plagued by a tall, dark-haired man, and when his dreams meet reality, he will be forced to question everything he believes is the truth about his life.
An Experiment in Empathy Series by belovedmuerto (T, 62,397 w. across 13 stories || Empath AU || Psychic John, Psychic-by-Proxy Sherlock, Empathy, Psychic Bond, Romance / Bromance) – In which John is an empath, Sherlock is Sherlock, and an epic bromance happens. In the aftermath of The Great Game, John creates an unexpected bond between himself and Sherlock. Now they have to learn how to deal with it. John is better at this than Sherlock is.
Bleed Me Out by antietamfalls (E, 87,987 w. || Vampire AU || Bonding, Vampire Sherlock, Fluff & Angst, H/C, John Whump, Magical Realism) – John isn’t exactly surprised to discover that Sherlock isn’t human. His vampirism doesn’t pose a problem, even when their relationship gradually grows into something more. That is, until a deadly revelation about John’s blood sends their lives spinning dangerously out of control.
Colors by Quesarasara (E, 140,537 w. || Pleasantville-Inspired AU || Soulmates, Colour Bonds, Alternating POV, Angst, Fluff, Pining, Case Fic, Medical Procedures) – Everyone on earth is born with eyes that see in black, white, and an endless series of greys. When you meet your soulmate, you finally see the world in color. We’re all searching for the person who brings color to our lives. John and Sherlock are no exception. Part 1 of The Colors ‘Verse

do you know of any 70s/80s time period fics or just any time period fics in general?
Hello! I couldn’t seem to remember any 80s fics off the top of my head or find any that I had bookmarked. I do however have a couple 70s fics and a few 1920s fics! hope this helps 💕
70′s fics
Box Of Rain (26k) : Louis is definitely not the next Muhammad Ali, just an illegal boxer with no prospects for the future. Harry is a hippie Uni student that in his free time informally works as a ring boy. Somehow he manages to always get tangled on the ropes and at the same time charm the pants off of all the fighters and patrons. They meet in Manchester in 1977 and, even though they don’t seem to have much in common, they… Well, they just sort of click, really.-The one with a friendship ruiner game of Monopoly, Harry always ending up in jail for wanting to save the world, Louis face to face with his archenemy and way too many references to 70s music. Also staring Zayn as a brooding anarchist punk rocker, Liam as the nerdiest and nicest boxer in all Britain and Niall as a book marker that can easily convince people to bet fortunes, but can’t make his friends realize their mutual crush on each other.
Here In The Afterglow (88k) : “If you hadn’t noticed, I don’t have many friends,” Louis whispers, the blossom of insecurity in his stomach unfurling and clawing its way into his throat. Harry is silent for a long time, and then he speaks; a soft, slow uncurl that makes Louis’ stomach shake. “I’ll be your friend.” -1970’s AU. In a tiny town in Idaho, Louis’ life is changed forever by the arrival of a curious stranger.
Landslide (143k) : The year is 1976. In November, Jimmy Carter will take control of the White House. Americans are meeting Laverne & Shirley at their apartment in Milwaukee. Hotel California diverges from the reign of Kool & the Gang. And the FBI is still reeling from the repercussions of Watergate, the tragedy at Wounded Knee, Operation Family Secrets, and the strategic terrors of the anti-cult movement. That’s what Special Agent Harry Styles has been told is the basis of his mission to an abandoned farmhouse in rural New Hampshire. With his hair grown out long and his shirt untucked, he’s going undercover to do reconnaissance on suspected cult leader Louis Tomlinson, who has led a group of people out into the middle of nowhere, leaving no record of the life he’d had before. All Harry knows is what the agency gave him: Tomlinson’s name, and instructions to figure out what he’s doing with the eleven people he brought with him.In the year that Harry spends undercover and under Louis Tomlinson’s wing, he learns more than he ever expected.
Love Endless (The Road To Recollection) (171k) : The year is groovy 1973, and eighteen-year-old Louis Tomlinson is as gay as the rainbows that never waste their time in gloomy ole’ Fortwright. Would be fine if he wasn’t so viciously bullied at both home and school for such a “harmful” sexual preference. Yeah, yeah, we’ve all heard this story, haven’t we? Believe him, Louis didn’t think he was anything special either. Until he found the mansion. The notoriously haunted mansion hidden deep within the forests of his tiny blip of a town in Bumfuck Nowhere, Idaho. No one with a brain ever goes near it, but Louis could use a little excitement in his life…and possibly a Band-Aid or two. After discovering the mansion was less abandoned than he’d thought, he’s now left with the most riveting mystery of a lifetime; every new finding leaving him with more questions. Who is this elusive owner, and why won’t they show themselves? Why is there a set of journals in the same handwriting that span over centuries? Why in the world is there a padlock on the refrigerator…and who the hell is Alexander?
Under Your Thumb (15k): where the year is 1975, louis is the leader of a misfit group of boys in venice, and harry is a roller skater who somehow finds his way in
1920′s fics
Adore You (66k) : “We invited our new acquaintances from uptown. You’ve simply got to meet their oldest son!” said his mother with a flourish, and suddenly it became abundantly clear as to why his parents had so adamantly demanded he join them in Deansville for the entirety of the summer. Against his wishes, Harry spends the holidays at his family’s summer estate, and is reluctantly pulled into a courtship he didn’t ask for. Harry doesn’t want to get married, but Louis does. They don’t fit, but then again they really, really do. Vaguely set in the 1920’s. Headpieces, jazz, fashionable canes, and flapper dresses, and that.
Through Eerie Chaos (102k) : For as long as anyone can remember, Old Hillsbridge Manor has always been believed to be haunted. Everyone in the village agrees and keeps a respectful, fearful, distance. New in town after a bad breakup and an internship that led to disappointment rather than a permanent job, Harry Styles figures taking pictures of the decrepit building could be a great new creative project. Or at least a much-needed distraction while he searches for a job and crashes at his parents’ new house. No one warned him about the apparitions though; about the music, the laughter, the people who flicker and vanish when you call after them, the echoes of a past that should be long gone… Harry has never believed in spirits but even he can admit that there’s something weird going on. What starts as mere curiosity evolves into a full-blown investigation and soon enough, Harry finds himself making friends with an aristocrat from the 1920s and struggling with finding the best way to tell him that he’s dead. The Ghost Hunter AU where Niall lives to prove ghosts are real, Zayn is a skeptical librarian and Harry gets caught up in a century-old mystery and catches feeling in the process.
Through Lonely Streets and Neon Lights (25k) : 1920’s era, Great Gatsby inspired. Harry is a poor boy living in the South Village. Every night he watches the North City come alive and longs of crossing the river to be a part of it and escape his dreary life. The infamous Mr Tomlinson lives across the river from Harry. His parties are the stuff of legend; people on both sides know about them, and all Harry wants is a chance to go to one. When fate swings his way and he finds himself in Mr Tomlinson’s house, he gets much more than he could ever have bargained for.
#highly highly recommend here in the afterglow if you havent already read it !!#its my favorite fic ever#also through eerie chaos was one of my top fics of last year so if you havent already read it highly recommend!#asks#anon#fic rec

Heeeeyyy 9, 16 and 43 for the writing asks?
I have the object permanency of an infant, I totally forgot about this ask meme two seconds after I reblogged it LMAO
9. What are your favorite fanfics?
...REMEMBER WHAT I SAID ABOUT OBJECT PERMENANCE? I don't uh, I don't remember if I actually do have any favorite fanfics LMAO. I'm terrible like that. Buttt, after looking through my bookmarks, I do have a few that I think about often enough! I'm suuper into Friday Night Funkin' currently, but I'll try to mix it up a bit for variety!
bop beep means: i'm sorry by aifizao
A hanahaki Friday Night Funkin' fanfic about Pico's "one-sided" affection for Boyfriend. I really enjoyed the emotional turmoil and descriptions throughout the fic, and the writing style and format is something I can bump with. Does it end well? No. But I'm a sucker for well-executed tragedy and I can't get those final scenes outta my head no matter what, and honestly, they are allowed to live rent free in my head :)
Countdown to April 30th by pankocrumbs (candidcacotechny)
A Pico's School fanfic (with a bit of Friday Night Funkin' mixed in, but it's mostly Pico's School) that takes a very realistic and respectful retelling of the events of the titular game. Pankocrumbs does an amazing job with taking the base game and expanding on the characters and relationships throughout the fic, focusing more on character study and respectful, careful attention to detail that blows me away every time I think about their fic. I especially enjoy and LOVE their depiction of Nene and how her role functions in the overall fic. This one also lives rent free in my head, and I will never evict for as long as I'm into this fandom.
Rewind & Remix by TIM
A Little Nightmares 2 fic where Mono saves a Nome instead of Six in the Hunter's hut. The Nome, who is actually RK, ends up following Mono around on his adventures, and the two develop a fun friendship of protectiveness and care as they traverse the Pale City. It's a retelling that I love dearly, solely because it's a well-written take that explores a "what-if" situation in curious ways. It's still on-going, and I'm DREADFULLY behind, BUT, I'd still recommend this one to any Little Nightmares fans out there!
static by grumpyhedgehogs
A Little Nightmares 2 fic where Mono struggles through his endless loops and tries to break out of it. Focuses a lot of his struggles, but also shows off how Six also struggles to help him through Mono's POV (what's this?? UNRELIABLE NARRATOR MY BELOVED??) Mono is actually a very reliable narrator, but his thoughts and observations on Six's actions lend a lot to helping, but not outwardly stating, Six's true intentions, and just how much she knows about the situation. One of my favorites out of all the fics out there exploring the loops and how the dynamic duo breaks out of them.
Destiny's Kinda Overrated by Forestwater
An oldie but a goodie! Soulmate aus are my guilty pleasure, and Forestwater did an excellent take on how one can have not just one, but two soulmates while ALSO exploring what could happen IF you lost your soulmate. You might've read this one already, but I figured I'd drop this one on here as one of the few Camp Camp fics I recall fondly.
Memory Lane by Cloudbustings
I had to really search for this one, but it's an incomplete Camp Camp fic that has the Camp Trio stumbling across boxes of recordings and photos that belong to David, showcasing a mysterious boy named Jasper. I think it was going in the direction of: Who is Jasper and why doesn't David talk about him if he's so important to David? The fic is incomplete, but I loved the concept of it, and I think about it every once in a while since fics about discovering photographs and the mysteries and histories behind them always makes my heart go HUAAGHH-
16. Do you use sentence starters, writing prompts and/or fandom headcanons for your fanfics?
Hilariously enough, I rely on pretty much none of those! Most of my inspiration comes from music I stumble across, The Current Amount of Stress I Am Under, and dialogue ideas I come up with on the spot or with friends. On occasion, I do maybe sometimes use fandom headcanons for my fics, but it's usually in ways meant to subvert or change up a bit to my liking. Music is my LIFE however, so really my idea spawning tends to happen when I'm going through old playlists or rediscovering songs, and me going, "Hey, this fits this character really well. How do I make it work?" and then going off of that.
But if I'm super stressed out, I just write character death LMAO WHOOSP
43. Guilty pleasure tropes and scenarios?
hhuturhghushfaahh, hanahaki, cafe/bakery/flower shop meet-cutes, and flsdfklds winged folks. I've written at least one fic for each of those, but hahahfsdhfkjalsd boy do I love. All of those. OH I'm also suCH a sucker for reincarnation and Groundhog Day like scenarios, just the idea of trying hard to break out of the monotony of tragedy really gets me going.

thanks for tagging me, @iamthefacebehindthemask!!! (I always get really excited when I see you tagged me, I love these things)
i’m not sure who to tag though... if there’s any writers who want to do this count this as me tagging you
1. How did you come up with your username and what does it mean?
vagarious: erratic and unpredictable in behavior or direction
I just took out the “o” lol. It’s kind of ironic now bc I’m pretty predictable when it comes to fics...
2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (bookmarks/subscriptions/hits/kudos)
Subscriptions: crumble; throw, which is one of my only multichap works and like the only one i’ve actually updated... still have to get out that last chapter though iT WILL HAPPEN
Hits: housework, a short kurokage fic which for some reason has 1711 hits
Kudos/Bookmarks: phones, which is my free/hq wrong-number crossover fic with 264 kudos and 42 bookmarks (it was a lot of fun to write)
3. What is your AO3 profile icon, and why did you choose it?
N/A (oops)
4. Do you have any regular/ favorite commenters?
odoridango and bystander have commented on a lot of my hq!! fics (thank you!!!!!) and horchata has written me some of the sweetest comments ever. And all my boueibu fics tend to have the same few commenters @nardaviel @mystofthestars @thatlittledandere @angelluckovich kakera
5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?
There are quite a few, actually. Pretty much all of @fortune-maiden‘s boueibu fics bc they always make me smile, the vld fics Recoil/Release and Keith’s ‘Physical Contact’ Initiation Program, and all the gift fic people have written me and Distractions and Pliant by tastewithouttalent but they’re both enatsu smut and i’m embarrassed. I go back to pretty much all my bookmarks but sometimes I have to be in a certain mood to read them, I guess.
6. How many stories are you subscribed to? How many do you have bookmarked?
24 subscriptions, 108 bookmarks
7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most?
um... slice of life aus, I suppose? most of the stuff i write is loosely canon compliant now that i think about it...
8. How many people are subscribed and bookmarked to you in total? (you can view this on the stats page)
27 user subscriptions and 477 total bookmarks (to works)
9. Is there something you’d like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)
My more outlandish crossovers, I suppose. like dark!boueibu x vld
10. Is there anything you would like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc.
I’d like to get better at writing fantasy/adventure. And actually writing longer fic. (I can usually plan it out but have trouble actually getting the words on paper when there’s just so much stuff and a majority of the time the fic veers off and i have to plan again...)
11. Do you write rarepairs or popular ships more often?
Rarepairs, I think. Or relatively popular ships in small fandoms :P
12. How many stories have you posted on AO3 to this day (finished and unfinished)?
48 (!!!)
13. How many stories do you have saved in/with your writing program?
oh god... too many... and they’re spread throughout three devices + an online drive
14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?
I mostly jot down snippets and lines and other small ideas like that to incorporate/develop into a fic later on. And I’ll layout longer fic if I intend to write said fic. Though there’s some things (mostly AUs and crossovers) I don’t intend to write but keep in my head to keep my thoughts warm.
15. Have you ever co-authored a story?
No, but I have participated in collaborative things like the free! shipping relay and hqbb
16. How did you discover AO3?
I honestly don’t remember.
17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author in your fandom(s) on AO3?
haha no
18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?
um, if ever asked, I just say “Elena,” which is my first name, so...
19. Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write?
There wasn’t a specific author, but the fic catch a falling star by hoshruba is the fic that inspired me to really get into fic writing. I had written pjo/hoo fic on ffnet before then, but catch a falling star is when I started to get serious (for lack of a better term) about it
20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?
Like what you write. Which is crappy advice, I know, but if you write what you want to read and are happy with it, then you’ll keep writing, and when you keep writing you’ll inevitably improve, even if it doesn’t feel like it. You’ll improve bc, at least for me, the more fic I published the more I wanted to publish, and the more I had to learn how to do to write things. Ideas burst out of me at the seams. So write those short drabbles and ramble-ly one-shots and just. Enjoy them. Like what you write.
21. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?
I typically plot out longer stories, but my planning stages tend to just be random bursts of ideas and lines in an unorganized list. On the other hand, there are quite a few fics of mine that I started and finished within one sitting - it felt like they wrote themselves.
22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do?
I haven’t gotten a bad comment that I remember (there are probs a few on my old fics but whatever), but I have gotten some weird/funny comments on said old fics on ffnet.
Examples:
You sweared!
What
also now that i’m looking at them most of my ffnet comments reported crying... i wrote a lot of angst and still kinda do oops
23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..)
Action. Fantasy. Fantasy action. Most things outside of slice of life, now that i’m thinking about it...
24. What story(s) are you working on now?
Too many, omg. I still have that last part of crumble; throw, and I also have an iokin fic I want to finish but it’s gotten out of hand... also a long keith (vld) fic but we’ll see how that goes. Plus all my little ideas floating around in various electronic devices.
25. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?
Um, the stories ideas kinda just... happen... and whichever I finish/start first are the ones I finish/start first.
26. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?
Not a daily one, but when I do sit down to write I try to go for at least 300-400 words (though if I really sit down to write it’ll typically go beyond that)
27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started?
Definitely (hopefully)
28. What is your favorite story that you’ve written?
an endless start of april, probably
29. What is your least favorite story that you’ve written?
There’s no fic I’ve written that I actively dislike. If I posted it, I like it, at least a little.
30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?
Still writing fic, lol
31. What is the easiest thing about writing?
For me? Writing dialogue, probably.
32. What is the hardest thing about writing?
Starting.
33. Why do you write?
I first started writing because there was stuff I wanted to read but couldn’t find, so I wrote it myself. I don’t think that’s changed. I also think it’s fun to explore emotions and how they translate in to action (or lack of action).

about me as a writer
I was tagged by @oiivkawa <3 Thanks so much, this was super fun!
Tagging: @emeraldwaves @ivyfics @calmgeyama @ohoholyshit @yatatsukki and?? anyone else who wants to I guess lol, I feel like most ppl I know how been tagged ^^
I’m putting my responses under the cut as well bc I know myself lmao, my responses can be long af ^^’’
1. How did you come up with your username and what does it mean? bleh I have two usernames, and both stories are embarrassing LOL I’ll go with my actual ao3 name though I guess?? When I was in middle (?) school I used to watch the anime HOTD, which is like...awful first off. It’s borderline hentai, shitty fanservice, the whole thing (don’t ask me why I watched it, bc who knows, the music was A+) but my favorite character’s name was Saya, and her servants would call her ladysaya, so that’s the explanation for that ha. I put the x in front because I used to be obsessed with x men and all the marvel/dc animated series, so it felt appropriate pft. Man, even talking about this brings back so many cringe worthy memories lmao forgive me.
2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (Bookmarks/ Subscriptions/ Hits/ Kudos) for Haikyuu!! it’s definitely Slipping Underneath, and for K Project it’s There You Are <3
3. What is your AO3 profile icon and why did you choose it? It’s Semi! The reasoning for this is because I have 3 fav Haikyuu!! characters: Tsukishima, Oikawa, and Semi. So I just try to distribute my love evenly tbh lol. I have a Tsukki icon on here and discord, Semi for AO3, and Oikawa is on my phone case ^^
4. Do you have any regular/favourite commenters? ahhh I have several but I’m not aware if many of them have tumblr?? A lot of people who comment on every chapter of my multichapters are very special to me, I love them all! Ofc on here there’s @emeraldwaves @ivyfics @momomirasaki124 @uselessvalshit @starjem and then I have my other fav supporters @serviceace @caelestisxyz and @urikawa-miyuki <3
5. Is there a fanfic you keep going back to read again and again? Ah damn there are so many lmfao, I have a lot of fav fics and I don’t want to make this post super long. Please check out the rec posts I’ve done here and here ! Or also message me for specific types of fics <3 I will say though, one fic I always go back to read even though it’s been YEARS is a kyoukao fic by potionwine!
6. How many stories are you subscribed to? How many do you have bookmarked? I consider myself pretty picky, but I do read a LOT of fic, so I have a decent amount of both ^^ About 187 bookmarks, and 16 fic/author subscriptions!
7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most? Probably college?? even though I know that’s super broad, and all kinds of different AUs can be based in college but that’s how it is lol. I think that’s because I honestly don’t like redoing AUs?? I like experimenting and making up really weird shit and original scenarios as much as possible. Though, I’m sure you can find apparent trends across all my fics ^^
8. How many people are subscribed and bookmarked to you in total? haha...I have 76 user subscriptions, 436 general fic subscriptions, and 792 bookmarks. I don’t even know how that’s real lmao I feel so blessed that so many people enjoy my writing <3
9. Is there something you’d like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!) not really honestly, if I have an embarrassing or indulgent idea at this point, I just write it lmao idc but there are lots of types of fics I am scared to write just bc I don’t know if I could do them justice heh....
10. Is there anything you’d like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc. yes lmao updating better would be something I’d LOVE to improve on ; ; Also writing action scenes too fff fuck action scenes
11. Do you write rarepairs or popular ships more often? Uhhh I’ve dabbled in both but yeah, more often than not I stick to more popular pairs just because I need content to motivate me pftt
12. How many stories have you posted on AO3 to this day? 50!
13. How many stories do you have saved in/ with your writing program? Like WIPs? ffff WIPs...maybe like 4 or 5 at this point, including multichapters, and wow that’s actually not a lot, usually I have a ton and I’m drowning in them loool
14. Do you write down story ideas or just keep them in your head? Both...I usually just keep things in my head, but if a fic starts giving me issues, I like to plot it out
15. Have you ever co- authored a story? Nope, but I’d really love to at some point with a friend!
16. How did you discover AO3? Uh I honestly don’t remember loool I think one day I sorta just saw that no one was using ff anymore and I was like ‘aight’
17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author in your fandom(s) on AO3? Not really lmao, I mean...my siren au does pretty well, but otherwise my fics get kinda slept on -shrug- it is what it is
18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers? lol i do not
19. Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write? Well I’ve always loved to write so no, but @brynne-lagaao is a big reason I started writing sarumi fics back when I was in K fandom! And nowadays in the hq fandom, a lot of amazing authors really push me to keep writing ^^
20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author? don’t be afraid to write and write whatever you want basically lmao I know it can be daunting if you think your writing skills aren’t matching up with other authors, but the best thing you can do is practice, practice, and eventually you will see results! Also read a lot, reading other ppl’s stories really helps, and above all, just have fun with it!
21. Do you plot out your stories or do you just figure it out as you go? I try to have a basic plot (beginning, middle, end) because I used to just DIVE IN to stories and it was awful lmao I need some sort of guideline, even if it’s small
22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do? yes ofc, but I honestly try not to dwell on them because they’re not worth it. I either ignore or delete in most cases
23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (Action, smut, etc) action and smut are never easy for me lol
24. What story(s) are you working on now? well right now I’m working on two secret santa fics for iwaoi, as well as my two kurotsuki multichapters! I am also trying to write kacchako as a x-mas present for a friend lol
25. Do you plan your new projects before you finish your current ongoing story(s)? ha yeah, it’s a bad habit but I have no self-control
26. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself? I do not! I just try to write at least a little bit each day if I can, but there’s never a word minimum I try to reach ^^
27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started? oh 100% lmao comparing some of my old fics from even a year ago to my fics now is eye opening
28. What is your favourite story that you have written? Shaking in My Skull for sarumi, it’s also the longest fic I’ve ever written and it holds a special place in my heart ; ; For kurotsuki it’s gotta be Let My Love
29. What is your least favourite story that you have written? fuck me, Pencils and Paper LOL it was an earlier sarumi fic of mine and I just...hate it. I’m not even gonna link it LOL
30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years? Still writing fanfic most likely, maybe some original stuff (I hope!)
31. What’s the easiest part about writing? lmao nothing, writing is super hard work, sometimes even just thinking up ideas can be difficult, then there’s actually writing and making the ideas come to life, and don’t get me started on editing lmaooo writers are my heroes
32. What is the hardest part about writing? Finding the motivation, at least for me. I struggle sometimes with it because I’ll have the time and inspiration but depression just kicks my ass every time fff
33. Why do you write? For me it’s super therapeutic, I love the satisfaction of putting hard work into an idea you love and finishing it, and the high that comes with that. Plus sharing the story with others and getting positive feedback is a feeling that can’t be beat. I’ve always loved writing, I love how the possibilities are endless, and I hope I never stop <3

Ask a Writer!
Tagged by the lovely @i-masshiro, thanks babe! Love you tons, such a sweetheart D’:
1. How did you come up with your username and what does it mean?
It doesn’t mean anything in particular! An old best friend of mine helped me pick it up when I was struggling with new decent nicknames. This is the one I use for all my accounts now.
2. Which fanfic of yours has the most feedback? (bookmarks/favorites, follows/subscriptions, visitor hits, kudos)
These Stones We Skip, definitely. It’s got like 90 comments (half of them me responding to those, so it’s narrowed down to 45 haha) +2k hits, 100 kudos more or less, and a bunch of bookmarks! I’m super happy with how the fic is being read and that people like it this much! Also if anyone waiting for an update is reading pls forgive me I’ve been busy I promise I will update pls don’t sue ;;.
3. What is your FFnNet/AO3 profile icon, and why did you choose it?
Actually, I think all my icons are Uraraka icons, excepting the one I got for FF.net which is actually Asuna from SAO. Last time I updated the page I was heavily into SAO so... pretty self-explanatory. My love for Uraraka needs no explanations either.
4. Do you have any regular/favourite commenters?
I do! And most of them are an incredibly fun bunch of them. Long, usual commenters are my shit, not gonna lie. Although I have lost some of them as my updates have become slower, but I hope they come to read someday.
5. Is there a fanfic that you keep going back to read again and again?
Not really, unless it’s for some kind of reference. There was this line I hit where my style got smoother and a bit more polished, but from there below it’s kind of rubbish and I can’t read anything. All good things I write I can’t usually read because of self-awareness.
6. How many stories are you subscribed to? How many do you have bookmarked?
None and none lmao, I always drop kudos but I don’t think I have ever bookmarked anything, nor subscribed to because I don’t really have much time to check out stuff-- and when I do, I totally binge read it.
7. Which AU do you find yourself writing the most?
Fantasy AU because it’s consumed my life now.
8. How many people are subscribed and bookmarked to you in total? (you can view this on the stats page)
I got 10 subscriptions on AO3 and 60 bookmarks!
9. Is there something you’d like to write about but are afraid of people judging you for it? (Feeling brave? If so, share it!)
I would like to someday find the strength to write something venty someday, as I recently found out I somehow write much better and feel more satisfied when I vent my anger on writing. Something that doesn’t happen really often, but it happens and it’s great therapy!
10. Is there anything you would like to be better at? Writing certain scenes or genres, replying to comments, updating better, etc.
Tons of things, most particular. I would like to become less paranoid over people not seeing my scenarios, thus making my style less complex to the untrained eye. Also, fighting scenes make me cringe because I suck so hard at making them depsite having clear pictures in my head /cries.
11. Do you write rarepairs or popular ships more often?
I am now very focused on Kacchako and iirc ir used to be a rarepair? but I think it will break out of that zone soon.
12. How many stories have you posted on FFNet/AO3 to this day (finished and unfinished)?
3 on AO3, and 31 on FF.net.
13. How many stories do you have saved in/with your writing program?
Tons of them that sounded great in my head. It’s that small snapping process of realizing a powerful story is too weak to be posten, and kinda let it rest.
14. Do you write down story ideas, or just keep them in your head?
I keep them in my head and plan to write them. Only the fantasy AU for kacchako has made it out of my head, lol.
15. Have you ever co-authored a story?
Yes, and it was a wonderful experience.
16. How did you discover FFNet/AO3?
Weirdly enough, from DeviantArt! I would usually go there searching for art pieces and found some deep small fics, whose authors would usually have a FF.net account. I only knew of AO3 last year, but I think I read one a bit before that. Not exactly sure when.
17. Do you consider yourself to be a popular or famous author in your fandom(s) on FFNet/AO3?
Not at all, there is too many talented people in this damn kaccha house (⁎˃ᆺ˂) they are all so good jdskak
18. Do you have a nickname or fandom name for your readers?
People usually call me Mira, but use others for Discord.
19. Was there an author who inspired or encouraged you to write?
Lots of them! Every author that lies in my recs gallery has inspired me in one way or another. Though that place is kinda outdated so I may have to add some more, but all my friends have inspired me overall. They are all wonderful writers and artists and it’s amazing to be so surrounded.
20. What writing advice would you give to a beginning author?
Don’t feel pushed to write queality straightaway, and always read other stuff to build new vocab and structures. Everytime you read, you will most likely learn something new as every author’s view gives you a new perspective on things. I have found it to be a great practice!
21. Do you plot out your stories, or do you just figure it out as you go?
Plot, always. Everytime I am listening to music and come up with a new snippit, I jot it down anywhere I can. Google’s Keep is a pretty nifty tool for this!
22. Have you ever gotten a bad comment on a story? If so, what did you do?
Well, I only got maybe two! One of them was pretty lukewarm and more of an advice that I followed, and it was a good one despite the harshness of it. On the other hand, I got one comment that told me they were giving up on my story because it was too thick style and lore wise, but I didn’t mind at all tbh-- I already knew I was facing these kinds of risks when I started writing long things like these.
23. Is there a certain type of scene that you have a hard time writing? (action, smut, etc..)
Fighting scenes in general kind of take a lot of time for me to work with, and same with some simply dialogue bits that I am like: and what now!? D:
24. What story(s) are you working on now?
My fantasy AU! pls if sb is reading Im sorry I will update soon don’t press charges thank
25. Do you plan your next project(s) before you finish your current ongoing story(s)?
I usually jot the deets down and push it aside until I am done with my main thing. It’s probably my best habit when it comes to planning, lol.
26. Do you have a daily writing goal set for yourself?
Not really. I usually try to plan when I wanna update, divide my chap’s aproximate word count and split it in days!
27. Do you think you’ve improved as a writer since you first started?
Oof, definitely. Mostly because my English has improved along with my writing and that helps. A lot.
28. What is your favorite story(s) that you’ve written?
I did write one in Spanish that got lots of good feedback and invested readers, and I had a blast writing its lore and characters.
29. What is your least favorite story(s) that you’ve written?
I wrote a pretty dark fic once and it’s a fic I know I wrote well? but I am kinda ashamed of looking back at it.
30. Where do you see yourself (as a writer) in 5 years?
Maybe working on something that is a little bit more professional, or just enjoying myself. Got no clue tbh.
31. What is the easiest thing about writing?
I think I can be pretty ominous in some parts and be very subtle with foreshadowing. The art of subtlety is something I worship everyday.
32. What is the hardest thing about writing?
Trying to live up to those little scenes I had in my head, and writing them as good as possible. And description in general, sometimes. And word count consistency is something that worries me sometimes. Oh, and the endless fear of poking a plothole bigger than a damn blackhole.
33. Why do you write?
To make people entertained and happy if they want something to read!
I nominate the great artists and gals @animeniac, @kacchanswife, @hondaroo, @kacchas and @liltoothbrush! If you don’t reply I’ll press charges so hahaha!
#ramble#this is an obligation you've been taggedo >:c#jk#yall read their stories they are all great pass it on#/leaves tumblr for another year

Sharing is caring! Starting a blog, and writing your first blog post are one of the easiest things to do when you start your blogging career. According to WordPress statistics, users produce more than 70 million new posts each month, which shows that almost 2.3 million posts per day are getting published on WordPress alone With so much crowd in online space, many bloggers struggle to get their blogs noticed. According to a survey, most of the bloggers quit their blogging journey within the first 90 days. Do you know what is the main reason? It’s Traffic. Most of the bloggers don’t know how to promote their blog and build a loyal audience around their blog. When I started my blogging career in 2011, I struggled a lot and read so many blogs to learn how to promote my blog and very soon I cracked the code in 2012. I started promoting my blogs in forums, Facebook groups, and so many other places. But this was just the beginning. Very soon I mastered the art of SEO and started making my blog more SEO optimized. If you are one of the bloggers who don’t know how to promote your blog, this article is going to be a game-changer for you. In this roundup post, we have interviewed some of the best experts in the industry who have cracked the code to attract a lot of traffic on their blogs. Make sure you read the answer of each expert because this blog post can be an eye-opener blog post for you to start your 2020 with a bang. Adam Connel There are a lot of ways you can promote your blog, but most tactics will have varying degrees of success depending on your niche. Regardless of your niche, there are several tips/tactics you should consider: #1. Create a blog promotion checklist – There are a bunch of these checklists floating around the web but it’s worth creating a checklist tailored to your niche. For example, there are niche-specific platforms you can promote your content to, such as N4G.com for video games and ManageWP.org for WordPress. #2. Blog post promotion starts at the content planning phase – Most people wait till there article is live and then consider how to promote it. Instead, consider what promotional strategy fits best with your content as you write it. Which leads me nicely onto my third point. #3. Feature influencers in your content – Reach out to influencers directly or use a platform like HARO to source quotes. You’ll add credibility to your content and the influencer might share it. #4. Sharing on a few social networks once is not enough – While an extensive promotion for short-form content may not make sense, it’s critical for long-form content. Consider recycling social media posts with a scheduling tool if your content is evergreen. Consider influencer marketing, outreach, social bookmarking platforms, niche social bookmarking platforms, Quora, and paid channels. Janice Wald #1. After creating stellar content, I promote my blog all over. I believe in the shotgun effect—promote your post everywhere and see where you generate interest. WordPress bloggers can check their WordPress blogs to see where they generate the most traction. All bloggers can use Google Analytics to see where they generate the most traction from social media sites. #2. The most important places you can promote your posts are places with high Domain Authority Rankings. If these websites allow self-promotion, you’ll get a link to your blog from a site with a high DA. This will boost your search engine visibility resulting in higher search engine traffic. Following both steps will enable you to boost your traffic in 2020. Initially, I only promoted on social media sites. Now I follow both techniques. Search engine traffic accounts for most of my daily traffic, so it’s good I discovered these SEO tips that result in traffic generation in addition to social media promotion. David Leonhardt I still think that getting amplified by others on social media makes all the difference. I didn’t do that so much at the beginning, not having had a network, but I built up a network. And there are platforms to help fast-forward that network. Both ViralContentBee and Triberr help me get in front of a lot of eyes, both potential clients and bloggers who might like my posts and refer to them in their posts. I also reach like-minded social media sharers through private Skype groups and other networking groups. In other words, it’s not how many followers you have – they are amazing, of course – but how many followers your network has. Having highly sharable images helps them share much easier, too. To build a big network and use tools to help them amplify your content. Mandy McEwen If you really want to increase exposure for your blog posts, include industry influencers and micro-influencers in your posts. You can quote them. You can link to a relevant blog or another content piece that will add value to your piece. Or you can simply give them props and link to their website. Then, reach out to them on social media and email. Provide the link to your blog, tell them that you mentioned them, then ask if they can share it with their social media audience. Tip: It works better if you ask them to share it on a specific social media platform like Twitter. Chances are they will share it across multiple platforms but you’ll get a better response if you simply ask for one. Of course, you should ALWAYS ensure your blogs are SEO-friendly so you can maximize your exposure in search engines like Google. Steve Wiideman Though blogs, in general, are becoming less prevalent, they still do attract traffic from web searches, especially if marked up and designed for new ways users are searching for content. For example, one way to extend the reach of a post in 2020 will be to leverage Structured Markup, such as those found at schema.org. A simple FAQ or recipe may land your post that coveted the “Position Zero” spot and a mention from Google Assistant on voice searches if marked up appropriately. If you did your keyword research and selected highly-searched questions for your posts that solve common problems, setting up Google Alerts could be the catalyst to acquiring short answer citations as you drop your summary in as a response to those alerts (when appropriate). We found that Featured Answers were more likely when there appears to be a health velocity of new short answer mentions or quotes (even without backlinks). Organizing content into themes can be super helpful as well. We put a Content Tracking template together for our clients to draw inspiration from. The URL is https://bit.ly/content-marketing-template and includes sample content themes, names, publishing tasks, and even tracking capabilities. Raelyn Tan Write high-quality content that is useful and shareable. Do a google search and look at the top articles on your topic. Make sure that your article is at least 2x better than the best one. Then, add additional elements to increase the chances of your content being linked to. My go-to ideas that will increase the chances of webmasters linking to you are to create an accompanying infographic and to include useful research, statistics, or surveys that you’ve conducted inside your article. Such elements will increase the quality of your article, leading to a better user experience that serves your readers better. Also, these elements will help you to build links a lot faster! When I first started out, I was very focused on optimizing my blog posts, ensuring that relevant keywords are included, and employing other tactics that my articles get ranked for low competition keywords. Today, it is still important to keyword optimize your articles for search engines like Google, but all the optimization in the world will not fix a poor quality blog post. I find that many bloggers are still caught in the endless cycle of churning out article after article with no personality or edge to them. This will hopefully improve in 2020! Ankit Singla Although there are several proven ways to promote a blog post like sharing blog posts on Social Media, outreaching influencers to share our content, etc., but these things give results for a very short time. I am a big fan of building digital assets that I can leverage again and again. That’s why in 2020, I’ll be purely focusing on these methods to promote my blog: #1. Facebook Group: I have been consistently working on growing my Facebook group as it gives me the best ROI when it comes to traffic and sales. Not only this, it instantly builds my authority when new members join the group and see the total number of existing members in my group. And if you don’t know, Facebook promotes super engaging groups. So it is one of the best sources of FREE and consistent new traffic for me. #2. YouTube Channel: The demand of video content is booming and if you are not leveraging YouTube to build your audience, then you are missing a ton of opportunities. This year I’ll be focusing a lot on growing my YouTube channel as it is super easy to drive traffic from YouTube videos back to my blog. #3. Email list: You would like to drive instant targeted traffic whenever you publish a new blog post, right? (who doesn’t). When you have a list of a super targeted audience, you just need to send a broadcast and traffic would start rolling. #4. Messenger Bot Subscribers: Studies say that the open rate for messenger messages is way higher than emails. We may not read all the emails that we receive, but the chances are higher that we check all our messenger messages. I tested this with a few campaigns and my open rate was above 90%. I am definitely going to focus on it a lot this year. Bonus Tip: Build an ecosystem. All the above 4 methods work extremely well together. Once you have an engaging Facebook group, YouTube channel, email list, and bot subscribers, you can leverage all of them together and cross-promote all your different traffic channels and grow all of them even further. Remember: Build an ecosystem. Steven Macdonald In the early days, we relied heavily on social media to promote new content that was published on the SuperOffice Blog. Back in 2012, it was much easier to get our content in front of a new audience on social. That’s no longer the case. If you want to get your content shared on Facebook, Twitter and/or LinkedIn, you need to pay for it. And once you start paying, it’s difficult to stop as it becomes a reliable traffic source. Rather than pay for distribution, we decided to promote new content to existing traffic on our website using a site-wide CTA. The SuperOffice website attracts more than 3 million visitors per year including new prospects, existing customers and partners. The content we create is for this audience, so there’s no better way to distribute our content and to this kind of volume (for free) than using a site-wide CTA at the top of every page of the website. Manish Chauhan PODCASTS – I think the best way in the next year is to work on PODCASTS. Podcasts are not something new, but a lot of bloggers even if established don’t to enough of it. Times are changing now and people have less and less time to READ things. They want audio/video content. To create video content, it takes a lot of resources, time and effort to edit. However considering the fact that the hero of the video content is always the AUDIO part and the conversation, podcasts are the new medium to spread your content and your views. Here are 4 major benefits of podcasts compared to Video content #1. Easy to create – As I said, podcasts need less time and resources and very manageable if you want to do interviews or discussions. While you can always go for fancy tools, one can start with interviews or recordings on their smartphone itself. Also, you don’t need to do lots of setup like an expensive camera, lighting, or you don’t need to buy any expensive editing software. Another good point is that speakers are never conscious about how they are looking or how their background looks like in the video. All that matters is your voice. #2. Easy to Consume by readers/viewers – People spend enough time these days driving, walking or exercising and may want a medium that they can consume without looking at it. I myself listen to a lot of youtube content myself and I don’t need the video part of it. If your content is valuable enough, it’s not that tough to communicate things by audio format. #3. Faster to Create – Podcasts are also faster to create, as you have very little to edit. Just think of the last video you created, and imagine how much time you would have saved if you just needed to record the audio part. #4. Great way to interview and get access to others network – If you want to target other bloggers network and market yourself, it becomes a big barrier to get their time for interviews if you do video format. In case of Audio, the commitment is quite less and all they have to do is give you 30 min to 60 min. Once they have invested so much time in contributing, they will surely share the podcasts to their own network or readers and it’s sure shot way to get visibility and market your self. Make the first 5 podcasts as an experiment I would say that rather than making big plans, just try to recreate your last 5 content (written or video) in audio format and see how it goes. There are also so many platforms like PodBean which are free platforms to get started and which can host your podcasts and also help you to distribute it to other platforms. .ugb-1253820 .ugb-cta__item{background-color:#eeeeee !important}.ugb-1253820 .ugb-cta__item:before{background-color:#eeeeee !important}.ugb-1253820 .ugb-button{background-color:#fcb900}.ugb-1253820 .ugb-button .ugb-button–inner,.ugb-1253820 .ugb-button svg{color:#222222}.ugb-1253820.ugb-cta{box-shadow:rgba(23,43,99,.24) 0 7px 28px !important} Would you love to try SEMRush? We have partnered with SEMRush to provide a FREE 30 days trial (worth $99) to our reader. Akshay Hallur In 2020, I would focus more on creating content that satisfies the user intent very well. Because Google is good at looking at on-page user interaction to determine whether the article helped them or not. I would also focus on updating old content on my blog aggressively for increased traffic. The updation of the old content has a better ROI than publishing new content. Along with that, I recommend focusing on LinkedIn – as it has got more organic reach than FB. If you are in the B2B space, LinkedIn gives you more qualified leads and is worth it. Along with this, I highly recommend you guys not to rely on only one source of traffic and diversify traffic generation. Follow the omnichannel approach in blog promotion. Repurposing parts of your blog content for various platforms like Quora, LinkedIn, Medium also works wonders for boosted traffic on your website. I would also recommend you guys to focus on Messenger marketing than Email marketing. Messenger messages get more interaction and open rates. And moreover, you can easily convert your Messenger subscribers to email subscribers with “User input fields” or other means. Anil Agarwal Creating content is one thing and promoting your content is another most important thing. If you’re NOT promoting your blog, you’re making a HUGE mistake. That being said, here are some of the best ways to promote your blog in 2020 to get more traffic. #1. Use social media wisely: Use social media like Facebook groups, Twitter, etc to share others’ posts, not just yours. You need to tag other people while sharing their stuff. Only when you start promoting others, they’ll reciprocate. Make sure to spend time actively to engage with other bloggers, participate in group discussions and so on to get more out of social media promotion. #2. NEVER ignore SEO: Despite frequent Google updates, focusing your efforts on increasing your search traffic can give you long-lasting results. Google sends you highly qualified visitors and it’s easier to convert them into sales. So don’t ignore SEO and start finding low competitive keywords and properly optimize your posts by building relevant links. #3. Try paid mediums: Try Facebook ads, Google ads, Instagram ads. If you’re able to generate decent ROI from your ads, it’s always worth giving a try. Start small, target the right audience and promote the RIGHT content. Jitendra Vaswani In 2020 my strategy for blog traffic through would be focused on strong on-page and then go after link building because in past I made tons of mistakes in on-page SEO, it costs me lot of dollars so my suggestion is to learn from experts like Neil Patel, Brian Dea, Kyle Roof & Matt Diggity. For more traffic for your blog choose topics that are trending on Google Trends and also which are being talked on social media. Trending topics tend to get more attention & use IGTV which is a new Instagram platform. If you get attention on IGTV you can capture a big amount of audience there for your blog. Don’t completely depend on SEO go for combo SEO & Social media & I bet it will work for you. Bonus tip: Start doing podcast & interview real influencers in your niche & ask them to share that interview, you will see your blog will get noticed and they will be happy to share on their social channels. Robert Ryan Graft, hustle, hunger, and focus. You’ve got to be willing to put in the long hours and hard yards to give your blog or business site a chance to survive and thrive online. One of the key things I did to help my site succeed was to get involved in online communities, to expand my social circle and continue to influence the influencers. Initially, that approach was a slow burner that didn’t yield much but with continued graft and focus is started to pay off, influencers started to share my content sending more traffic to my site which in turn gave rise to more opportunities to create more content to keep the cycle going. With more shares and backlinks from influencers, the focused hustle started to pay off, the site started to rank higher and the traffic that was coming to the site via shares from influencers was the type of traffic that had a positive disposition to what I was offering which in turn gave rise to more leads and business. The other important factor for this tactic of online promotion was to ensure that the site had its SEO ducks in a row so that as more backlinks and positive SEO signals were received the site then had a lift in organic search, yielding even more leads and business. As for how I promote my site now, honestly, I don’t do all that much. The site generates a steady flow of qualified leads, largely as a result of the hustle, hunger, and focus of the early days but also dovetailed with an understanding of SEO. I could continue to focus on promoting to the site but it’s also key to know when it’s time to focus on clients and at present that is where my site and business is – it generates enough on an ongoing basis without too much TLC and so I can focus on keeping clients happy and onboard. Chris Makara While there are many great ways to promote your blog post, I find that a few approaches yield better results than others. Here they are: Email it to your list Email outreach Social media automation The best way to promote your new blog post is by telling those who already enjoy your content. This can easily be done by emailing your list whenever you publish something new. And because they typically love your content, chances are they will tell others about it. Here’s everything you need to know about building an email list. Besides emailing your own list, I’ve found good success in doing cold email outreach to sites who have previously linked to similar content. I never email asking for them to replace an existing link with my own, but rather nudge them that this content would make a great addition to their blog post. Not only have I secured great links this way, but there have been occasions where the same site will share on social media or even send it out in their newsletter. The last way I like to get more traffic for blog posts is to leverage social media automation. There are a number of ways you can do this, but some of my favorite ways are scaling content promotion and promoting expert roundups. I find that spending just a few minutes setting this up, I can automate the process for months to come. Krystian Szastok Obviously, as we all know content is the key part, so the real question is ‘what content’. This is where I see most blogs failing and most blogposts never seeing the light of day or getting in front of readers. As bloggers, we constantly either miss the topicality and interest or we completely underestimate how much effort is required to create good content. As a general rule of thumb, I try to aim at evergreen topics. Rather than writing ‘Top 5 SEO news from this week’ I’d prefer to write ‘Top 5 SEO tips for 2020′ or even better ‘Top 15 tips on how to maximize your CTR on Google SERPs with Schema‘ – for example. The last suggestion is the most exact, the most useful, the most likely one to remain relevant and interesting. Then there is the effort. I check what keywords I’m targeting and compare to the top 3-5 pages ranking on Google. You never want to create shorter and worse content as it won’t appear on the first page. This remains the same in 2020 as it always had, Google is looking for depth and authority. Mike McManus The fundamentals of attracting traffic to your blog start in the ‘guts’ of the idea. Before writing any blog post or article ask yourself ‘do I know that people are searching for answers to this question or topic that I am about to write about?’ – if the answer is yes, write the post, however, if the answer is no, take a step back and find another topic to sink your time into. When working out if there is a demand for a topic or idea use research tools such as Keyword Magic Tool by SEMRUSH or Google Suggest. Following this blogging approach will keep your posts on-trend but more importantly will help you create evergreen content that keeps attracting visitors from search results day after day, month after month and year after year! Anastasia I think for most blogging niches (not for all though!), the fastest and free way to boost your traffic is Pinterest. It’s amazing how this platform can provide you a combination of targeted search traffic and a viral effect that is common on social media. I recommend Pinterest especially for beginners, for those who are thinking to start their blogs in 2020 because competition on Google is very high and you’ll need to be patient for at least the first year for your site to get out of Google’s “sandbox”. During this first year of blogging, you could reach all your traffic goals with Pinterest and also give your site an additional boost in Google because a lot of shares on Pinterest help your pages get better rankings in Google too. Not only that – oftentimes, your pins may rank high in Google image search, and that will bring you additional organic search traffic from Google but thanks to your efforts on Pinterest. When you are thinking about Pinterest traffic, also keep in mind that it’s high-quality traffic (mostly from the US) that is valued by all the premium ad networks, which will help you make more ad income from your blog. Minuca Elena Many bloggers rely massively on social media which is indeed a very useful resource but shouldn’t be the only one you use. In 2020, business owners should focus more on building brand awareness. Get featured in expert roundups, interviews, and podcasts. Use HARO and Source Bottle to land your first media appearances. Don’t reject any invitation, even if it’s from a small blog. You need to get your face seen. Even if you think that in a roundup with 60 people few people will read every answer, you should still take part in it. You get backlinks and that helps with your SEO as well. Plus, over time readers will recognize your name and image. So always try to give quality answers. This way, you will get noticed by readers of other sites that will also come to check your site. Iftekhar Ahmed In 2020, your blog should no longer look like a generic one. With so much competition around, getting traffic to your blog can be challenging. Traditional methods of promoting a blog may no longer work. You will need to bring some uniqueness in your promotion strategy. Here are some suggestions that I feel can help you bring more traffic. Don’t just publish articles on High search volume or generic keywords. Such articles become really hard to promote as there must be a ton of articles already covered by other blogs. Start publishing research or something that involves a lot of facts and numbers. You can dig deep into your niche and try to find an interesting topic that you can cover in the form of research full of facts and digits. Here is an example of one such research post: https://ift.tt/2LWApWz. Such articles are link magnets and most importantly, other industry experts (or your competitors) may end up sharing your article. Thus, sending you a new set of audience. Ann Smarty When I started my blog, I wasn’t doing much to promote it except for writing genuinely useful and original content and building industry connections to get seen. I wasn’t building links or using social media much but I was very active at niche forums. The traffic wasn’t huge but the engagement was awesome. I didn’t rank much too as I never even did keyword research. Last year I decided to really work on my organic positions, so I started using Text Optimizer which is the semantic analysis tool that helps you optimize content for search intent to better match your text with Google’s and its users’ expectations. Text Optimizer helped me triple my organic search traffic within three months which I thought was awesome. I don’t have enough time to use it more but my plan for 2020 is to use Text Optimizer to optimize my old content. I think the reason why it works so well is that the tool pushes you to both include varied vocabulary and write long-form content. To get a higher score, you are encouraged to choose at least 20-25 related terms, so you have to create the context for them. This works well for extending my copy. I also find the tool useful to recommend to blog writers and contributors as it helps in research and writing. Overall, I think this is my best find of 2020! Swadhin Agarwal With the rise of Google trying to be a one-stop solution to all things search, my 2020 blog promotion goals are to diversify my traffic sources from just SEO to other routes. While SEO will still be my #1 focus to drive traffic I’m definitely considering adding podcasts as a strong traffic as well as a community-building platform for my blog. In addition to seeing an upsurge in usage, Podcasts are also now getting featured as playable podcasts directly in the search engine, so that’s a double benefit. Other blog promotion methods that are on my main focus are YouTube (needless to say the popularity videos are having these days and the real estate they capture on SERPs) and Facebook groups (perfect way to build a community of raving fans without actually having to meddle with the hassles of a membership site). Facebook groups have surprisingly been one of the largest sources of referral traffic for my blog and I’m trying to double down on that in 2020. For BloggingCage readers, I’d say don’t leave any stone unturned when it comes to traffic acquisition. Email marketing, social media or videos, be everywhere where your audience hangs out. Not only will it help in traffic acquisition but also with brand recall (which also contributes to CTR and organic rankings). Ileane Smith I am using a multi-channel approach or what some might call Omni Channel Marketing to attract traffic. I have two podcasts: Ms. Ileane Speaks, and The Anchor Show, and my YouTube channel and I’m also live streaming frequently on platforms like Twitter, Facebook, and Twitch. This is paying off for me and helping me expand my reach to different audiences through each of these platforms. Pardeep Goyal Focus on the Intent of your reader if you want to attract more traffic on your blog in 2020. If your content is aligned with your reader’s intent, it will get love from Google as well as social media. The more your content is aligned with the user, the better will be the quality of leads. Only quality content can attract more traffic despite the promotional channel. I have written a simple to understand article on the topic of starting stock investment in India, that became the most popular content on my blog within a month. You must be aware of the pain points of your reader & your content should be capable to resolve them. Such quality content makes a direct connection with your reader & gets more attention. For example, if you want to post about “home remedies to cure cough & cold in babies” on facebook, a simple video with some slides can grab millions of views if it is aligned with your reader. I have done that when I was working with a startup in the parenting niche. Our video got millions of views in just a few days. Posting high-quality (user aligned) content is the key to attract more traffic. .ugb-1253820 .ugb-cta__item{background-color:#eeeeee !important}.ugb-1253820 .ugb-cta__item:before{background-color:#eeeeee !important}.ugb-1253820 .ugb-button{background-color:#fcb900}.ugb-1253820 .ugb-button .ugb-button–inner,.ugb-1253820 .ugb-button svg{color:#222222}.ugb-1253820.ugb-cta{box-shadow:rgba(23,43,99,.24) 0 7px 28px !important} Would you love to try SEMRush? The Future Looks Bright: Meet propelland founder Hugo Giralt
ArtCenter: What are you working on right now? Hugo Giralt (GradID '12) founding partner/CEO of propelland: As a multidisciplinary team of designers, engineers and strategists, we're working on projects that merge digital and the physical experiences — our “super power” is to bring them to life. Our current roster of projects includes helping to reduce single-use packaging by reimagining hydration solutions and redefining behaviors around recycling, looking at the future of mobility and how it will add value in our lives, and designing a more human experience for people with cancer.
AC: What’s the most unique thing you’ve designed? HG: We have designed very unique solutions during these last seven years. But one that we especially celebrate is a telecare platform that connects a new category of smart devices. I'm lucky to still enjoy time with both my grandmothers who are in their 90s. These 24/7 telecare solutions will add phenomenal value by helping combat loneliness as a key driver in the aging process we go through as humans.
AC: How do you define success? HG: Bring your dreams to life by doing what you love, surround yourself with great people, and create extraordinary things that add value to people’s lives.
AC: Do you have any superstitions? HG: I'm strangely connected to the number 23. In school, I was always the 23rd in the class list year after year; it didn't matter the number of students. Since I was a kid, 23 became a good friend and keeps appearing in plane seats, hotel rooms, apartment numbers… and of course best NBA player of all time, Michael Jordan.
AC: What’s the design cliché you’re most tempted to use? HG: “Less is more," searching for minimalism and simplicity in everything we create, from architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe or highly admired industrial designer Dieter Rams. We live in a time where problems are becoming more systematized and we must find more systematized solutions. "Less is more” truly has a deeper meaning on the environmental impact of the solutions we design. As designers and architects of the future, we need to have a circular economy mindset and understand the importance of sustainability with purpose.
AC: What’s the one tool you can’t do without? HG: My sketchbook with Kuretake Zig Mangaka fine black pen and the smallest set of water colors I have on hand. On several occasions, these have sufficed to win a new project by visualizing in front of the client.
AC: What’s the first site you look at when you open your computer in the morning? HG: Slack. It's a super useful and inspiring aggregator of research, collective intelligence and team communication on project deliverables. With studios in San Francisco, Madrid and México City, the time difference makes it really exciting to see the whole universe of things that have happened while we were sleeping.
AC: Where do you go (online or offline) when you’re taking a break? HG: I like to walk to grab a hot chocolate (I don't drink coffee as I am already very caffeinated) and sketch on my sketchbook or on any napkin within reach.
AC: What do you do to detox from media and screens? HG: When I'm in San Francisco, I go to Fort Funston beach to walk for hours, take photos and save some crabs from sea gulls by throwing them back into the ocean. As I travel quite often across our three studios and for projects, I really like to get lost discovering museum exhibitions, meeting new people and discovering hidden corners in cities. In winter, my passion is skiing, having Lake Tahoe close by is a gift. And in the day to day, I like to read physical books - love their colors, smells, textures. I collect the things I find in my travels to use as bookmarks.
AC: If you could trade jobs with anyone for a day who would it be? HG: I would choose a day with Bill and Melinda Gates. They are such an inspiration of innovation, commitment and perseverance in bringing to life solutions for some of the largest problems humanity faces. There's so much to learn from them; we look forward to having the opportunity to collaborate with their team in the near future on some projects.
AC: What book is on your bedside table? HG: I tend to read several books at the same time on strategy, design, history, biology, technologies... I'm chasing the goal of finishing one or two per month - which would be 12 to 24 a year, or 120 to 240 in 10 years. Can you imagine how much the brain can evolve? One that I would definitely recommend is Magellan by Stefan Zweig, such an epic adventure!
AC: Who are the most interesting designers working today? HG: Some of my favorites are Naoto Fukasawa, Neri Oxman, Oki Sato, Marc Newson, and the gone-too-soon Zaha Hadid. There are so many incredible teams of multidisciplinary designers, collectives and academic institutions creating the extraordinary that it's hard to focus on just a few individuals.
AC: Describe a moment in your childhood when you first identified as a designer. HG: When I was 4 years old, my teacher gave the class some paper and asked us to draw things round like a circle. Everyone started to draw a wheel, eye glasses, human eye, a clock, the sun, a planet. After 15 minutes, students started to look to each other to get more ideas or at the ceiling thinking what else they could draw. I kept drawing the whole day: spaceships, space battles where laser beams where continuous circles, robots, vehicles, space suits, space stations, engines... The school’s director ended up calling my mother to pick me up; I guess that was the first.
AC: If you could have a superpower, what would it be? HG: As I feel so curious about how we can use our history to help create our future, I would choose time travel for sure. Can you imagine? Endless possibilities to learn and make things better at so many levels.
AC: What’s your most irrational or rational fear? HG: Some nights I dream I've forgotten to finish a deliverable for a class at ArtCenter and then suddenly I wake up. Do you know the feeling? Does it happen to you?
AC: What’s your most prized possession? HG: The great memories with so many great people throughout the journey.
AC: Where is your happy place? HG: The countryside. We have a small house in El Olivar, a tiny, old town an hour from Madrid. All houses are made of stone with moss growing wild on their roofs; there's the smell of wood-burning fireplaces and plants after the rain; the sound of the wind playing with the leaves and hundreds of sheep in the far inland gradients of greens and other earthy colors. Timeless place.
AC: How would your closest friend describe you? HG: This is the toughest question to answer by myself… Probably my closest friend (I've just asked her) would describe me as loyal, curious, creative, passionate, motivated, energetic, shy but social, persuasive, analytical, stubborn, tenacious, a perfectionist and risk-taker.
AC: What’s your best piece of advice for an ArtCenter student who’s interested in following your career path? HG: Personally, I believe that the future is for “expert generalists," which means that the more hybrid we are, the larger impact we will generate. For instance, I studied business first and expanded with industrial design after having worked in corporations over 15 years. We're in the era of learning to learn; we must see ourselves as a toolbox we will constantly fill. There are many disciplines and professions that will be created and we'll need to adapt, fast.
I'll share something super useful I learned from my boss, mentor and great friend after years together in the corporate world. One day, he asked us to bring a “next 15 years resume” as a way to help us envision and guide our future. I remember looking at that blank page, feeling so lost. What to write? This will help. Think of yourself in 15 years; think of your passions. I would structure your resume in sections of people, projects, companies, skills.
First, start with “the people," what type of people do you want to create projects with? What are their backgrounds? You might know them personally or not. Choose people from whom you can learn a ton.
Second, continue adding the types of projects you'd like to work on with these extraordinary people and the impact you'd like your work to have.
Third, what are the companies you'd like to to work for? Also, what are the companies you'd like to build as an entrepreneur?
Last, but not least, add the skills you'd like to learn.
