Hot Take: Ultimate Dirk as a character makes zero sense, since it completely ignores the context of WHY Dirk can act so controlling.

Like Nepeta, this man is defined by his friendships. He'd never intentionally mess with their autonomy, only his own. And even then, he puts up with Hal's bullshit for way longer than he probably should have because he felt responsible for putting Hal through everything.

All of the character flaws of Ultimate Dirk would fit a Jake that ditched the heroism and passivity he clings to so hard.

It should have been Jake, man!
