Despite being a Dino Squad blog I don’t really have a favorite dinosaur. I like pterosaurs because they can fly, and I like ankylosaurus because of Bumpy from Camp Cretaceous, and I like microraptor because they’re like the corvids of prehistoric times and corvids are cool. But I don’t have a solitary favorite.

My favorite episode is Perseverance because Buzz trying to learn how to be all proper was hysterical to me, as was Caruso trying to teach him—and also because Buzz and Caruso are my two favorite characters in the show. : )

(I’m gonna take a wild guess and say Magneto is probably the villain. What types of dinosaurs did you make the all? Do they still have their usual powers or are their mutations fully replaced by the ability to turn into a dinosaur? Which version of the X-Men are you using or is it more of a general portrayal? And lastly what’s your favorite dinosquad character?)

A comprehensive guide to Raptordyne

(This is what my fucking life is I guess)

With a show as incoherently written as Dinosquad there tends to be a lot of guesswork and inconsistent information left for the fans to work with. But not anymore folks! I have scoured the entire show to bring you a comprehensive breakdown of Raptordyne, what it does, who works there, and how it’s built. Let’s get started.

What does Raptordyne do?

The show seems to push the idea that Raptordyne is pretty much exclusively built as a factory for global warming and ooze monsters but that obviously can’t be the only thing happening here.

in the first episode Rodger states that Raptordyne is a biogenetics company and phrase that, like most things in this show, is a vague mush of science-y sounding words. Then in the episode Easy Riders and Raging Dinos we see that Raptordyne owns an animal feed company.

With that in mind it seems safe to assume that Raptordyne is in the agricultural industry more specifically designing GMOs and related products.

Who works there?

Now that we know what Raptordyne does when it’s not making horrible mutants, let’s see who works there. I’m going to go in order from most relevant to least relevant.

Victor Veloci

The main guy, the clown that runs this circus, our leading man, the CEO of Raptordyne. Despite seeing this guy every episode we don’t really get to see him actually doing his human job, we do however know that he spends a lot of time on charity work, thanks to the first episode and the episode Perseverance.

Lieutenant Alpha

A surprisingly unknown character despite showing up in two episodes with speaking scenes the Lieutenant is shown to be in charge of most of the masked grunt force at Raptordyne. Though in his two episodes, Who let the dogs out and Scents and Scents Abilities he is shown to be disliked by Veloci and doesn’t seem aware of the true purpose of Veloci’s work.

Peter

Anyone who knows me also know that this guy is my personal favorite character of all time, despite only showing up in the first episode for 20 seconds. Contrary to popular belief Peter is not actually Veloci’s assistant, his real work lies in the engineering department. He developed nanobots that are supposedly used in primordial ooze and potentially built the robot seen in the episode Wannabe or the hologram dinosaur in Who let the dog out. Peter was injected with primordial ooze however the outcome of that experiment was never seen.

Gregor, Mina, and Robert

I would like to thank the Dinosquad discord server for helping me name these scientists, if you haven’t joined it yet go check it out. These three scientists appear in the background of a few episodes though are never named or given speaking roles. From left to right on the second picture we have Robert, Gregor, and Mina. It is implied in the episode Attack of the Brainasuarus that Veloci works directly with these three to develop prototype ooze.

The twins

These two only appear in the episode Pet Peeve and are the masked grunts working under Veloci for the day. I wanted to point them out not only because they are the only grunts seen without their uniforms but they are also significantly more incompetent than any other grunts seen in the show, thus designating them as their own significant characters.

Workplace Environment

With all our players in place let’s talk about Raptordyne itself. The underground lab seems to be made of one continuous room situated in a cave system underneath the main building. Let’s break it down.

The Entrance

Pictured above is the left end of the cave lab. It’s primarily just Veloci’s ominous skull chair and the entrance elevator (not pictured). This is the area we see the most in the show. What’s interesting about this area is the room over looking the lab just past Veloci’s chair, and the rail tracks cutting through the center of the room, but more on those later.

The Lab

Pretty self explanatory, just across the rail track is the lab where the ooze and mutants are made. The mutants shown in the test tubes are not used in the show but their humanoid shape does imply some sort of human experimentation.

The airlock

On the right side of the lab there is this specialized containment zone. As seen in the episode One Precent Inspiration this area is used for the temporary containment of live specimens and also has an airlock at the top of the containment unit for the release of airborne specimens.

The Greenhouse

Seen only once in the episode Growth Potential this room is what I believe to be in that raised portion of the lab seen in the entrance. This area of the lab is used exclusively for the production and study of mutant plants, a concept that is severely underutilized in the show.

Veloci’s Office

Realized i forgot this originally whoops. Being the influential man he is Veloci obviously needs an office that isn’t in a secret dinosaur lair. This is one spacious office in what looks like the top of the Raptordyne building.

The warehouse

Technically this isn’t a part of the underground lab, nor is it a single building in my opinion. Featured in Scents and Scents abilities we see what is one of possibly many warehouse outposts. Complete with their own security systems and staff.

In the episode it is featured in the place seems to be controlled exclusively by the Lieutenant and masked grunts. So why is this relevant? I propose that the railway seen in the main lab is actually a transit system between the main lab and a network of these outpost facilities.

Huevember day 6 Fiona from Dinosquad because I’ve been rewatching a lot of cartoons lately.

So in Whole Cake island we got the power rangers and now we're getting the dinosquad lol

I would love there to be a trend in these newer arcs of random pop culture/shows from back in the day. WCI/Power Rangers, and now like...Dino Squad with Wano. I'm still holding out for there to be Transformers if we have an arc where Vegapunk makes an appearance, lol

What new episodes would you imagine for Dino Squad?

Honestly, I would have loved any episodes that gave us real character development.

Not like a flaw that appears in one episode and then is overcome and never mentioned again, but like, an episode about Fiona doing roller derby, or Max actually caring about football instead of just playing it in one scene.

Maybe an episode about all of them having friends outside of the squad except one of them who feels like the odd man out and then we’d get some development for their friendship. Actually I’d love an episode or two that shows they all have lives outside of being dinosaurs.

Above all though, I would kill for an episode with a fashion makeover montage where they all have to go undercover at the RaptorDyne holiday party or something and dress up in formalwear and Caruso gets really excited about it.

Alright, after running this blog for over a year I've decided to make an actual pinned post—complete with a guide to my tagging system.

First off, who am I?

I am the sole moderator of dinosquad-central, obviously. You may call me Dino Mod, and I use any pronouns, including neopronouns that do not begin with x or z.

My Favorite characters are Caruso and Buzz. I don't actually know that much about dinosaurs in general; I just think they're neat. I'm the event coordinator on the Dino Squad discord server. And I love getting asks! (Although sometimes it takes me a day or two to answer them)

I tag posts with #dino mod to indicate that they are either original posts from me, or things I've reblogged wherein I added something to the body of the post, rather than just the tags. So if you want to browse my thoughts on the show, that's the tag to do it.

Now that you know who I am, what's Dino Squad and where can you watch it?

Dino Squad is a 2007 cartoon about five teenagers who can turn into dinosaurs, and you can watch it for free on YouTube. The first episode is called "The Beginning", but the series is episodic, so the order you watch doesn't really matter after that. If you want to watch in in order, there's an episode list on IMDB.

Is there anything else you should know?

Yeah, a couple of things, actually. But this is already getting long, so I'll continue under the readmore.

Firstly, I need to give credit where credit is due, and make sure y'all know that the person who made the banner I use for this blog, which is also the quintessential "there's like five of us" dinosquad fandom meme, is @scoutbot. Everyone say "thank you, scoutbot!"

My profile pic, on the other hand, is lifted from official Dino Squad promotional material, but if anyone wants to draw me a new one, I'd be willing to trade you a fic for it—DM me if interested.

Secondly, there's one type of tag I don’t list in the tag guide, and that's the type I use to fawn all over everybody's Dino Squad posts. In such a small fandom, every time someone makes something new for it, they do so knowing it won't get much engagement, so I want to make sure they get at least one person who with enthusiastically give a kind, thoughtful, personalized comment on their post. Creating for a small fandom can feel thankless, but I want to mitigate that as much as possible by saying thank you thank you thank you for hanging out with us and participating in our fandom.

Good evening. I need to speak my idea into the world even though I have no idea whether or not you'll get it. Have you seen Wolfwalkers? I keep thinking about this like "Dinosquad-but-its-Wolfwalkers AU", where they are like magic forest beings? I have no idea if this makes any sense and this is like a combo of niche fandoms but I needed someone to see this, thank you for listening.

Okay, first off, sorry it took me several days to respond. I got this ask and as soon as I looked up the movie I wanted to watch it because it has so many thing I love, but I don't have Apple TV+ (anyone who does, and even if you don't like me, I encourage you to watch it, it's a beautiful film), so I had to find... ehem... alternate means of watching it. Then stuff happened I don't wanna get into. Anyway, I watched it this evening and can now give a proper response.

Without spoiling too much, for those who haven't seen it, it's a stunningly animated Irish film about an English girl who moves to Ireland with her hunter father and befriends/becomes a WolfWalker. They can transform others into WolfWalkers by biting them, and are otherwise similar to werewolves but aren't exactly alike. They turn into wolves when they sleep, but their human bodies are still there, sleeping. It's like astral projecting but with a physical wolf body. They also have healing powers and can communicate with animals, but I'm gonna focus on the how they transform part for now.

So when you say "Dinosquad-but-it's-WolfWalkers AU", I'm not sure if you mean to imply that the squad turns into WolfWalkers or if they still turn into dinosaurs, but I'm gonna say they still turn into dinosaurs because I have more ideas for that. I'm bad at puns, so I'll let y'all make up your own "walking with dinosaurs"/"walk the dinosaur" puns and laugh at how funny you are.

So you start with Moynihan and Veloci, who are, in this, DinoWalkers. There used to be others, but they've all died off. Even the regular dinosaurs evolved or died, though they were once plentiful in this magic forest. Moynihan believes their time is over, but Veloci won't give up without a fight. Then five kids end up in the woods, possibly doing an environmental clean-up thing for extra credit in school. Veloci attacks them, bites them, and disappears.

Moynihan finds them, heals them—hoping if she does so fast enough the bite won't take—and then sends them home and tells them never to return to these woods. They shouldn't have been there anyway. Everyone in Kittery Point says there are monsters in those woods. Caruso warned them it wouldn't be worth the extra credit and what happened? They all got attacked! Thank goodness for that... witch?? lady?? and her healing powers???

Unfortunately, the next time they fall asleep... dinosaurs. Monsters. Dinos are a lot bigger than wolves, so instead of just scaring their families and the people in town, they also cause quite a bit of property damage. Rodger almost steps on his own sleeping body, and how scary would that have been? Their freak-outs wake up their whole neighborhoods, and everyone is terrified, maybe some people even get weapons, and they're driven away from town, back into the woods.

They run into each other as they enter the woods, and talk to each other, trying to figure out what's going on, that's when another DinoWalker finds them, Ms. Moynihan, in dinosaur form. She leads them to her den and explains what's happening before teaching them how to be dinosaurs. She warns them of Veloci, who turned them, who will try to make them join him in his inane plan to wipe out the nearby city so the dinosaurs will once again come back. They have to stop him from biting anyone else.

Not really sure where it goes from there. There's some misunderstandings with the squad's families. The people in town are freaked out and seem to be proving Veloci's point about humans for a while. Conflict conflict conflict. Obstacle obstacle obstacle. Big blow out fight where Veloci is cornered and... idk... I think in this AU he would have to die. But I don't think the squad kills him, I think humans kill him, proving his point about them, and instead of living in harmony the kids, in their human forms, retreat deep into the woods, never to be seen by civilized people again.

Happy ending version: The squad's families all choose their children over society, become DinoWalkers, and join the little pack, meaning, even though Veloci died, he got what he wanted: more dinosaurs. But Moynihan also got what she wanted by staying hidden and safe, she's just not as lonely anymore.

I'm not too sure about the ending tbh, that's just all I could come up with right now.
