Yù-yú[玉魚]: "Jade* Fish"(In Japanese these would be called Magatama, it refers as much to the material as a precious stone as the bead shape itself) became the Japanese Iiyui[イーユイ], but romanized YIYUI, and became the English localization Chi-Yu.

Bào-jiàn[豹劍]: "Leopard Sword" became Japanese PaoJian'[パオジアン] romanized accordingly as PAOJIAN, and became English name Chien-Pao

Dǐng-lù[鼎鹿]: "(triplop)Cauldron Deer" became Japanese Din'Luu[ディンルー] but romanized DINLU, became English Ting-Lu

Chóng-jiǎn[虫簡]: "Bug BambooSlips*" (a kind of predecessor to paper scrolls) became Japanese Chion'Jen'[チオンジェン] romanized CHIONJEN, became English Wo-Chien
Hence the term "Treasures of Ruin" being used for these four legendaries: they are each an ancient Chinese artifact of some sort. So, like....... A Chinese region soon? It feels super on the nose, like how the 3 musketeers showed up and a gen later we got pokeFrance. But then again, we also got yin yang dragons that same gen, and DLC kungfu bears in Galar, and one might have thought those would be signs of a Chinese region on the horizon then too.
For a long time the Pokemon Company and Gamefreak have worked to make legendary names that can apply across different international releases without being changed. Early games, pre-global merchandizing phenomenon not withstanding. So it's kind of interesting that this tripped up the English localization, if only because they seemed to see fit to try and re-localize the implicit Chinese roots of these, even though the Japanese had already done it the once.
Incidentally if you copy paste those kanji/hanzi into google translate it'll give you a little pronunciation guide that can help to clarify what the frankly abysmal romanization system of english speakers absolutely fails to make clear.

These are just rough thoughts (obviously, it's 0220 lmao), but I don't think they're all that bad. Some of them are miles better than others though lol.
Liara - Indy (Indiana Jones/archeologist reference)
Garrus - Clouseau (reference to his being a (bad) investigator/policeman)
Tali - Casper (ghostly quiet, randomly appears and spooks Owen all the time)
Ash - Trademark (Trademark = TM = Tony Montana = "Say hello to my little friend" = explosions and gunfire = Ash) OR Hyde (has two sides to her)
Wrex - DNLU - pronounced Dinlu (Do Not Leave Unsupervised)
Kaidan - Glowy (biotics)
Shepard - Bars (reference to rank)
