The theory of the United People’s front is their great revolutionary contribution to the world progressive and communist movements. Together with the working class uprisings in 1923 and 1944 it inspired the broad masses of the people in their struggle for the destruction of capitalism, fascism and backwardness. This struggle was crowned with the victory of socialism in Bulgaria.

The free Bulgarian people laid the foundations of a new life; bright socialist horizons burst upon them. Thus a living example was set for the other peoples to follow, peoples that were fighting for freedom, progress and socialism; for the victory of the working class and for the all-round development of revolutionary relations and class solidarity.

To a certain extent the history of Yemen resembles Bulgarian history. The present life of the Republic of Yemen is inspired by rich historical traditions. The people here were the creators of one of the most ancient civilizations that has greatly contributed to the history of mankind.

Both people have experienced the horrors of tyranny, slavery and occupation but they have succeeded in preserving their roots and have survived for thousands of years. That is why it is only natural that the Yemen people should truly value and commemorate the anniversary of the foundation of the Bulgarian State, which, as it is, confirms everything progressive in Bulgarian history, both the material and spiritual values created by the heroic Bulgarian people. Today we are witnesses to the consistent policy of socialist Bulgaria striving to confirm progressive values. We hold in high esteem the great achievements of the Bulgarian working class and the Bulgarian people under the leadership of the Communist Party.

Our friendship with the Bulgarian people and the countries of the socialist community is bases on solid principles. It is growing stronger and is being constantly developed owing to the efforts of our party and the contributions of the leaders of the communist and workers’ parties in these countries. We firmly believe that this true friendship will last forever because the struggle for socialism and consolidation of peace is the greatest and the most noble of aims set by mankind nowadays.

The Institut français d'Ecosse, in partnership with Live Music Now Scotland, is proud to present Noé Clerc and Nicolas Arsenijevic in a live-streamed virtual concert Wednesday 19 August 2020 at 7pm.

About the musicians

Noé Clerc, born in 1996 is a multi-talented accordionist. Born in the South West of France, he studied classical and contemporary accordion at the CNSM (Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique) followed by further studies in jazz and improvised music. He performs and records with various ensembles in France and abroad such as the French/Serbian «Undectet Band», the flautist Magic Malik, the Israeli Oud player Habib Sheadeh Anna and his project «Our Story» which mixes Jazz and Arab music, with the Quartet of the Bulgarian guitarist Dimitar Blagoev and with the Balkan music ensemble «Kosmopolitevitch». He founded the Noé Clerc Trio in 2018 playing personal compositions. His trio won the «Leopold Bellan» and «Jazz à St Germain des prés» competitions. As a passionate and curious musician, he is always on the lookout for new musical adventures.

Nicolas Arsenijevic is one of the most recognised saxophonists of his generation. Graduated from the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris in 2016 in the class of Claude Delangle, he has been navigating for several years between contemporary creation, original repertoire for saxophone, transcriptions, traditional music from the Balkans or even musical theatre. Winner of numerous international competitions, Nicolas Arsenijevic performs regularly in France as well as throughout the world where he also performs numerous master-classes. His collaboration with young composers from IRCAM and CNSMDP has given rise to original creations such as the show Quatre corps enquête d'auteur created in 2014 in Paris. In 2017, he recorded a critically acclaimed disc (Indé'sens label) dedicated to Johannes Brahms' sonatas for clarinet and cello transcribed on saxophone with pianist Françoise Buffet. He also teaches at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels. Nicolas Arsenijevic is a Selmer artist and laureate of the Cziffra Foundation since 2013.
