The AM Gronder grudge version differences would be that Ashe and Annette are there instead of Lorenz and Marianne, Byleth/Church is on Dimitri's army, and the circumstances on why they're fighting. Claude will mention how he'd gave the benefit of the doubt, until Didi yells his line, after Alliance messengers were killed. Ashe points out so were theirs, and the two were realize the play (by Fleche). Unfortunately, Ignatz chose violence by criticizing Kingdom values again and Ingrid retorts (1/2)

(2/2) Leonie then says that this is why she wants to be a merc like Jeralt, triggering Byleth again bringing up that awful support. Lysithea then brings up the 'Crescent Moon' war on why the Kingdom has no chance, with Felix reminding the mock battle 5 years ago. Hilda mentions how both Didi and Edel are not stable, and Dedue snarks about her laziness. Judith shows up out of nowhere, after Sylvain. And then C, Ashe, Merci, and Raph try to sneak until Annie goes wild. She want her fam together :(

Funny factor raised by 100 because Annette is literally one of two characters who is shorter than Edelgard with approximately 2 DEF at any given moment (on a good day) so the thought of her propelling herself forward at Mach 5 with wind magic with one hand and raising Crusher in the optimal Bonk Position with the other is true comedy gold lmaooo

Ok I got it on the second try, crisis averted :)

The strat ended up being:

Ok ok I also took Mercedes just in case. Dimitri is auto-deployed, so she helps there. I also gave Didi Marianne as an adjutant for those sweet, sweet adjutant heals.

Keeping the two of them out of it, I used Ingrid, Annette, Felix, and Byleth. Ingrid got Seteth as an adjutant, and Felix got Dedue for adjutant guard.

I finally bothered to give Byleth defiant avo and vantage, so once she took a couple hits, she was untouchable. Kinda broken, ngl. I did have to be careful, though, because I realized that for some reason, if she activates Alert Stance, Claude will use a battalion and kill her. Idk why! !

Anyway, we went directly southwest toward Edelgard, forcing Claude and the Alliance to come to me. I did have to take out the center hill first to clear out that damn ballista, but the Alliance doesn't even start moving until turn three, so I had plenty of time to get a head start. They gave chase, but I forced them to engage the Empire soldiers in the middle of the map by getting to the far west and putting the Empire between me and the Alliance, keeping both groups distracted.

Unfortunately, Claude always goes directly for Byleth (at least, that's what he was doing for me), so I had to stay out of his range/bait him with Empire soldiers that had in turn been baited into specific positions bc I'm a genius (ok fine, it wasn't on purpose at first so I didn't come up with it myself. Felix is an assassin, which has an inate skill that makes them harder to target, so I could position him in Claude’s path to attract a bunch of enemies and make Claude fight them instead of me or Felix.) It worked out, Claude took some damage from the falcon knight bait along the way, and a crest stone beast got a sizable chunk of his HP, which was helpful.

In the end, I didn't kill a single student other than Bernie and Hubie - they killed each other for me <3 (ok fine, only Leonie and the Petra replacement died. Hilda, Raphael, Ignatz, and Lysithea all survived). The best was when Edelgard set the center hill on fire, catching four Empire units and seven Alliance units. Really good stuff.

In the end, Annie and Ingrid got Edlegard, Byleth and Felix got Claude, and Dimitri and Mercedes clapped politely after good turns.

There you go, that's how that went. Also, it made me think it would be fun to do a Faerghus Four run where I use only Sylvain, Dimitri, Felix, and Ingrid for the entire game lol

At gronder field getting absolutely OBLITERATED over and over again, missing 80% hit chances, getting killed by 20% hit chances, I'm going to cry. so anyway, going to try cutting my team down a bunch and see if that works ok so maybe I said I wanted a bigger challenge and basically asked for it and did this to myself

I mean, the point is that Flame Emperor was the straw that broke the camel's back. Imagine that you saved this girl, but couldn't save Remire or Jeralt as it's "fate", and the culprits are that girl's allies. Many people already headcanon By exhausting all the pulses, and still failed. That's a recipe for pent up trauma. Yeah it's edgy, but I don't want it to be shocking for the sake. Claude wants love and understanding, and seeing his mentor succumbed to hate and despair is heartbreaking. (1/2)

(2/2) The main focus is, Claude becoming the person to give healing despite not receiving such in the first place. He dislikes Edelgard and pale-villains, but he wants protect people & bring change, not stoop to their level. He saw By as a tool first, but after seeing his genuine happiness before, he wants to bring back Teach. Scenarios include the two butting heads after Randolph (before Leonie mercy kill him), Fleche having a role (like directing Didi to Gronder), & Edel time pulse awareness.

That’s about what I thought it was, but the expanding is super nice though! Claude being at least fairly nice to those around him despite growing up with people hating him for no real justifiable reason is definitely one of his most attractive characteristics for me, so to see that be the highlight of his relationship with Byleth in this AU is extremely dope imo. And also flipping the “Byleth is the reason the lord wins” on its head to be “the lord is the reason Byleth wins” sounds like it’d be a really interesting read for sure!
