[Simon Riley, Will You Marry Me?]
F!Reader proposing to Simon, let’s see what happens :D !!
The breeze touches your cheek tenderly, bringing you a sliver of coolness, just what you need now to calm down your anxious yet excited mind.
Everything is just as you planned. A nice dinner with some wine, you suggest going for a short walk just like you two always did. You watch Simon walking beside you, left hand engulfing yours in his warm and calloused one and looking in front of him, so you tuck your hand in your pocket.
The little box is there, and you sigh in relief, the whole date tonight you’ve kept checking its presence while making sure Simon doesn’t notice.
You two stop by the lake you both love. The stars shine dazzling in the sky, with the moon accompanied their beauty.
Everything’s perfect. Now it’s the time.
“Simon.” You take a deep breath, and watch your lover turning his head to meet your gaze.
“yeah, luv?”
“I have something to tell you.” You let go of his hands, shifting your body so you’re face to face with him. You can see his eyes dancing across your face with curiosity inside, but he just stays silent, waiting for you to continue.
“Simon Riley, I might not be the most beautiful person among others, might not be the smartest person that can help you the most, but I’m the luckiest person, because I found you in the crowd.”
You clenching hard at your skirt, under Simon’s wide eyes, you continue your words.
“Just like I said, I may not be the smartest, but I’ll always be by your side, holding your hands when you’re unsure of yourself, hugging you when the world is cruel and you need warmth. You are the person I wish I could spend my whole life with you...”
With wobbly knees, you lift your skirt slightly to kneel, and you can hear people standing by and gasping, but all you can see is the man you love with your entire life, eyes sparkling with surprise and the love you have in yours too.
“Will you marry me, Simon Riley?”
The box you have been checking along the whole night is now placed directly in your palm, the diamond on the ring shines majestically just like the stars above you two.
“Of course.” You can sense the difference in Simon’s voice, his voice is shaking too, but the happiness and touch inside is undoubtful. “please stand up, love.”
You let out a sigh of relief, steady your legs and start to straighten your legs.
“ahh!” the sudden relief doesn’t stop your trembling legs, and your body waddled, causing you to stumble onto the ground.
“Lovie!” Simon drops to his knees, your knees hurt, but you don’t care about it when you watch the ring box roll out of your hands and drop into the lake.
“the ring!” Crying out, you stumble to your feet and run into the lake. You know the lake is shallow, you can still find it, you need to find it—
A splash comes in your ears. Through your watering eyes, you see Simon step into the lake with you. His left hand steading you while his right arm swirls inside the water.
“It’s okay, love, it’s here, I found it, don’t worry.”
Finally, the white box appears in Simon’s hand when he retrieves his arm from the lake. Fortunately, besides some dirt and grass, the ring lies safely inside the box.
You don’t have a single energy to speak, letting Simon lead you back to the ground, both of your clothes are damp, and you're still recovering from the fright, but Simon’s chuckles bring you back to reality.
You stupidly watch him burst into a low laugh, a smile blooms on his scarred yet gorgeous face.
“You really aren’t the smartest person.” He hugs you closely until you can hear his heartbeat, faster than usual due to the accident, yet soothing just like you always listen to when you snuggle with him on the bed.
“thank you for confirming, Simon.” You pout, but a grin spread on your lips too.
“but you’re the bravest person, and I’m the luckiest man.”
Raising your eyebrow, you lift your head with disbelief, which vanishes when you look into his eyes.
There’s affection. immovable. unquestionable.
“Let’s go home and take a shower, yeah?”
“Sounds amazing”
Simon reaches out his hand, and you take them into yours. They’re wet this time, but it doesn’t affect the heat radiating and sharing through the connected palms.
“But next time don’t jump into the lake immediately, it could be dangerous. ‘kay?”
“Okay. I'm a dork I admit.”
“yeah, a cute dork.” He squeezes your hands playfully. “My little dork.”

Wild Life - Chapter 2
A fan-made Life SMP session project by Zhuk and Schmomo
>Chapter 1< or >Read it on Ao3<
“So you’re breaking up with us,” Martyn said, matter of factly.
“Is this supposed to be shocking?” Cleo asked, “You leaving to go be with Etho, instead?” She laughed a little, cycling through her inventory for her iron pick.
“It’s nothing personal!” Bdubs insisted, quickly, “I just feel bad for the guy, you know?”
“He is washed up,” Grian agreed, his voice carrying from up high where he was building up their tower of cobble.
“Exactly. Wait, no! No, he’s not!” Bdubs huffed, “But it was harsh how we all ditched him.”
Yesterday had been a mad dash for resources, like all first days in the Life games tended to be. Bdubs’ plan for starting the Life game challenge had remained the same as always: stick to Etho. But that hadn’t really played out the way he wanted it to. When he’d circled up with his group near the exposed iron vein on the side of the mountain, everyone had realized at the same time an important fact: He, Impulse, Cleo and Skizz were all dogs.
Etho was not.
“He’s a cat, Bdubs,” Martyn said, his tail swishing about in warning behind him, “A filthy feline, if you will.”
“Shouldn’t we be building bridges?” Bdubs tried, his own short tail quite flat against his body.
“No, we’re building a tower,” Grian called from above.
Cleo snorted, trying to cover her smile with her free hand.
“The man is lost without me,” Bdubs continued, “And I really just want to check on him, is all. Don’t you trust me?”
“Not at all,” Cleo said with a smile, “But go on then, find your cat boyfriend if it’ll calm your anxious heart.”
Bdubs rolled his eyes, turning away and padding to the edge of their platform. After the iron had run dry, Skizz and Impulse had ventured further up the mountains. Bdubs knew his history with fall damage well enough to stick to more solid ground. Cleo had decided to join up with Martyn and Grian who were discussing some grandiose plan to take control of the entire lake. He had followed them without a second thought.
Now, he stared out at the vast expanse of water before him, “You know, we really should build a bridge–”
“No bridges!” Grian shouted, “That’s the whole point!”
Bdubs threw his hands up in the air, defeated with his teammates–former teammates? It was unclear at this point. Bdubs was about 65% certain he would come back to them. Maybe less so now that this base Grian and Martyn were insisting on would prevent him from any kind of sustainable horse travel.
He pinched his nose and jumped into the water, shuddering as the cold temperature hit him. He pushed through, diving down past the many salmon and cod to head to shore. By the end he was doggy paddling, which was fitting he supposed. When he reached the shore line he shook himself out, his ears floppy atop his head and smacking him ever so lightly.
His comms buzzed in his pocket and he pulled it out.
Solidarity has made the advancement [Diamonds!] Smallishbeans > ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Smallishbeans > HE’S THE FIRST ONE?????? Smajor1995 > just wait for the swimming in lava message to appear soon enough Skizzleman > i don’t have anything to contribute but as another S name i felt the need to say something GoodTimeWithScar > same! Grian > Your username starts with G, scar GoodTimeWithScar > are we starting our own train now, G? Solidarity > DOES ANYONE HAVE FOOD THEY CAN THROW DOWN MY HOLE?
“Poor fella,” Bdubs sighed out without even a hint of pity. He put his communicator away. He glanced around, seeing the remnants of other players from the falling leaves and missing dark oak trunks. He decided to keep to the edge of the forest, just in case. After a few hundred blocks, the dark oak gave way to a plains biome and–
“HORSE!” Bdubs shouted, sprinting over to the magnificent herd of beasts. There were six of them, all deep browns and blacks. Some were even spotted with white. “What beauties,” he praised as he petted one of the wild mares, who shook her mane out at him. He hauled himself onto her back, only to be bucked off. He was no stranger to the process, however, and kept at it, taming the entire herd by the time the sun was shining directly above him.
“Now I just need a saddle,” Bdubs said aloud, before frowning. Right. He needed a saddle. What were the odds he’d stumble upon a dungeon anytime soon? He wondered if they were using the leather recipe in this game. That would be oh-so-fortuitous.
He hadn’t been paying attention, and the horse he was seated upon had wandered further into the plains, toward the great big snowy mountain they’d all pillaged for iron yesterday. He wondered if Skizz and Impulse were still up there. Why were all his friends moving into such horse-hostile environments? Bunch of scum, the lot of em.
The land opened up in front of him and he let out a surprised shout of terror. He quickly jumped off the horse, only to land precariously at the edge of the gaping ravine.
That was a close one, Bdubs thought to himself, imagine being the first to die. And to fall damage too.
He scurried backwards, giving himself a few blocks of distance. Sheepishly he looked around to see if anyone had seen him shrieking. Luckily, no one was around.
Where the heck was everyone? Had no one decided to settle in these plains? He frowned, turning all the way around before getting himself dizzy. How was he supposed to find Etho with everyone hiding? Everyone was still green for void’s sake! There was no need to be so un-neighborly yet.
“Cowards! All of ya!” he shouted out to no one in particular, cupping his hands around his mouth to make sure his important message carried.
“Is someone out there!?”
Bdubs startled, looking around for the owner of the voice.
“Hello!?”
He narrowed his eyes, following the voice several blocks to the right. He stopped right before the ground gave way to another hole.
“OH THANK THE VOID!”
All the way down below, surrounded by dripstone, was Jimmy. In full diamond armor.
“BDUBS YOU HAVE TO HELP ME!” Jimmy shouted, “I'VE GOT HALF A HEART AND NOTHING TO MY NAME!”
“I don’t know about that,” Bdubs called back, sitting down on the edge of the hole, “You’re covered in diamonds.”
“I’ve got no wood, no tools and no food,” Jimmy lamented, “Please, do you have any food to spare?”
“How’d you manage this?” Bdubs asked, his ears perking up.
“There was some mild panicking when I dug into lava,” Jimmy said, “Very mild. I may have thrown half my inventory into it. These are minor details. Anyway, can you spare a mutton? I’d take it raw at this point.”
Bdubs cringed, “You’re lucky Scott didn’t hear that. He’d never let you live it down.”
“Scott’s dead to me!” Jimmy shouted back, “He and Joel and Etho found me just to laugh! The nerve!”
“Etho?” Bdubs blinked, honing in on his mission with laser focus, “You know where he went?”
“You get me outta this jam, I’ll take you straight to him, I swear on my half of a heart.”
“And one of your diamond pieces,” Bdubs added, standing back up.
“You’d take the shirt off my back in my most trying time?”
“If it’s made of diamonds? Of course!” Bdubs replied, rummaging through his inventory, “After all, my hand might slip and grab my lava bucket instead.”
“ALRIGHT!” Jimmy shouted, “Just please! I can’t live down being yellow first again.”
Bdubs chuckled, taking mercy and flooding the hole. Jimmy quickly swam up, clawing his way onto solid ground and giving himself a firm shake to dry himself off. His long fluffy golden tail rained water droplets everywhere.
“Ah, a fellow dog of culture, I see,” Bdubs noted.
Jimmy cracked a smile, “Once a big dog, always a big dog. Woof, woof.” He picked himself up, taking off his diamond boots and handing them over. “Now please, some meat would be nice.”
“Oh I don't have any food on me,” Bdubs replied casually, slipping the armor on. “Should have probably grabbed some before leaving my crew, now that I think about it.”
Jimmy let out an anguished cry, hands shooting out to take hold of Bdubs shoulders. He dug into the iron armor there, “Are you KIDDING ME?” he shouted, close to tears, “Do you have any idea what I’ve been through!? Wave after wave after wave of creepers and zombies hounded me down there. Half a heart, Bdubs! I could trip and it’d be the end of me.”
“I’ve got a bed if you want to set your spawn here,” Bdubs offered with a bright cheery smile. Jimmy screamed out in aggravation. Bdubs patted his shoulder.
“Oh, that explains it.”
Jimmy and Bdubs turned at the sound of a third voice, and emerging from one of the rolling hills of this biome was Mumbo Jumbo of all people.
“Mumbo!” Bdubs exclaimed, giving a friendly wave. “And on top of a mound!”
“Hmm? Oh! Yes! Once a mounder, always a mounder,” Mumbo replied with a grin, carefully hopping down the blocks to make it to their sides. His skin black and white tail shot out for balance. “Although, I’ve graduated to new heights this go-around. You could say I’m a mountaineer, now.”
“Well, ain’t that nice,” Bdubs complimented, “Are Skizz and Impulse with ya then?”
“Oh yes!” Mumbo assured, “BigB too.”
“Lovely catching up,” Jimmy interrupted, eye twitching, “But we have pressing matters at hand! Mumbo, do you have any food on you, bud?
“Hmm? Oh. Oh right, food. That would have been a good idea, wouldn’t it have been.” Mumbo realized aloud, tapping his chin thoughtfully.
“YOU PEOPLE ARE IMPOSSIBLE!” Jimmy screamed.
Bdubs laughed, patting Jimmy’s shoulder and spreading his other arm out over the horizon, “Look, we’re in a plains biome, I’m sure we can find ya something to munch on.”
“All the animals are gone already!” Jimmy snapped, “This is the life series not Hermitcraft!”
“There’s plenty of horses,” Mumbo pointed out, unhelpfully.
“I CAN’T EAT A HORSE.”
“Not hungry enough, eh?” Mumbo replied.
Jimmy paused mid scream to laugh, “Alright, that’s a good one.” He then returned to screaming, “I’ve got two ticks left in my hunger bar before I starve to death. And that’s gonna be on both your consciences now, I hope you know.”
“I’m sure I can convince Etho to part with some snacks when I find him,” Bdubs assured.
“Isn’t Etho a cat, though? At least, that’s what Impulse told me,” Mumbo said, “Why are you looking for him?”
“Because I’m me, Mumbo, that’s why,” Bdubs snapped.
“Right,” Mumbo said, “Should have expected that. Anyway, if you’ll excuse me I need to collect some redstone down in that ravine. No reason, of course.”
“Of course,” Bdubs played along. He waved as Mumbo pushed past them, black and white spotted tail wagging behind him. He turned back to Jimmy, “Now which way did Etho go?”
Jimmy sighed, “He went further up, toward Scar’s place, I think. Have you been there yet? Last I saw him he was making some sort of shanty on the lake edge.”
“And that’s where we shall go,” Bdubs announced.
“I can’t sprint,” Jimmy said, looping an arm around Bdubs’ as a preventative measure. “Don’t you dare leave me behind.”
Bdubs laughed, but acquiesced. Slowing his pace down as they walked through the peaceful meadows. It was strange to see so few mobs and people. Eerie, really. But eventually from the fog appeared a new structure at the lake's edge. A fishing hut made of oak and spruce, already with a nice pier jutting into the water.
Scar came into view first, arms waving about as he spoke to three other players. Even before he rendered, Bdubs could tell the tallest silhouette to be Etho, most likely standing beside Joel and Scott based on Jimmy’s previous recollection.
“ETHO!” Bdubs shouted, abandoning Jimmy completely to sprint over to him.
Etho’s head shot up, and there was a soft crinkle around his eyes as they lit up in recognition. “Oh snappers, it’s a Bdubs!” he exclaimed, lifting his hand to wave at him.
“Why, hello there, Bdubs,” Scar intercepted, coming in between them before Bdubs could go in for the hug, “Welcome to my dock.”
“Right,” Bdubs nodded. “It’s a nice dock.”
“Thanks, I made it myself. Took all my wood,” Scar continued proudly, his gray and black tail swishing dangerously behind him.
“That’s not even true,” another voice snapped, and Bdubs quickly saw Lizzie coming into view. She was munching on a fish, her small ears folded close to her head, “I made the dock. You only made the shanty.”
“Details,” Scar waved off with his ever present smile.
“Food!” Bdubs shouted, pointing at the half eaten cod in Lizzie’s hand, “Jimmy needs some! Lizzie can you spare a fish for the starving man behind me?”
“Oh, Bdubs,” Joel groaned, his striped tail drooping in disappointment, “You actually helped him?”
“He was supposed to stay in the hole.” Scott clicked his tongue, shaking his head.
“Dogs, amiright?” Joel offered cheekily. Bdubs couldn’t help but let out a petulant little huff at that.
By that point Jimmy had finally staggered over to them, doubling over to rest his hands on his knees. “One tick! One tick left and I die before your callous eyes!”
“I’ve got food, Jimmy,” Lizzie assured, digging through her inventory, “But you’ll have to swear your undying loyalty to me first.”
“FINE!” Jimmy agreed.
“See, this is how you get into so much trouble, Jimmy,” Scott commented, “You agree too quickly to things.”
“The man’s on death’s door, Scott. You can’t blame him,” Scar defended, even as he took out his own cooked cod to eat in front of him.
“To seal the deal I shall give you this!” Lizzie announced, handing over a bone.
“Am I joke to you?” Jimmy growled, holding the bone, “You expect me to eat this? Just because I’m a dog? Har, har, har, everybody.” He pretended to give the bone a bite, only for his jaw to snap right through it. He blinked, surprised, nostrils flaring and bringing the bone to his mouth to properly chew on it.
And then he ate it completely.
“Oh,” Lizzie said, dumbfounded.
Joel started to laugh, “Did he seriously just–”
“There’s a terrible bone joke just waiting to be made here,” Scott snickered, politely covering his smile with his hand.
Jimmy’s face colored, “Shut up! Just hold on a second,”
“Did it work?” Bdubs asked, intrigued. His floppy ears did their best to perk up.
“It…worked,” Jimmy confirmed, eyes widening
“So I can punch you now? Thank void I’ve been having to hold back this whole time–” Joel started, pushing his way forward and winding his arm back.
Jimmy screeched, high pitched. Etho’s arm shot out to grab Joel by the scruff of his shirt while the poor golden retriever quickly ran behind Bdubs. “It didn’t FILL me up! I’m not anywhere close to healed yet. Get away from me, Joel!”
Lizzie stared at one of her bones, appraising it. Carefully, she raised it to her mouth and gave it an experimental gnaw. She grimaced.
“Let me try it,” Bdubs pawed at the bone, curiosity having gotten the best of him yet again. He immediately managed to snap it in half with his teeth, despite missing several. His eyes widened, “Huh. It’s not half bad!”
“This must be a dog thing,” Lizzie murmured, putting a finger to her chin, “I mean you can feed bones to wild wolves so it sort of makes sense.”
“Wait a tick,” Jimmy said, straightening up, “Wouldn’t that…Wouldn’t that mean…” He let his voice fade off as he rifled through his inventory to pull out a piece of rotten flesh.
“Oh that is vile, Jimmy!” Joel snapped.
Jimmy took a bite. His eyes widened. “NO WAY! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?”
Bdubs tilted his head to the side. Jimmy handed him another piece of the zombie flesh and he took a brave bite. An explosion of flavors hit his tongue all at once. Savory rich barbecue with just a hint of heat at the edges. He could feel himself salivating for more as he gobbled up the supposed rancid meat. “Oh my! This is gourmet!”
“Are you telling me, I’ve been panicking for the past few hours when I could have eaten any of the 40 pieces of rotten flesh in my inventory!?” Jimmy cried, sinking down to his knees.
“This is amazing,” Joel snickered, “I’m glad you dragged us out here, Scott.”
“I’m full of great ideas,” Scott preened, flicking his hair back to emphasize the point. His blue gray tail swished behind him for added effect.
“Anyway, Etho said, finally making his way to stand by his old friend, “Fancy seeing you here, Bdubs.”
“Etho!” Bdubs shouted, remembering the whole point of the day.
“Shouldn’t you be with your pack?” Etho faux sniffled, turning his head to the side.
“I came to check on you!” Bdubs insisted, pushing toward him. “Sure, I was led astray momentarily, but here I am in the end! That’s got to count for something, right?”
“I’m not letting more people move in with me,” Joel growled, putting his foot down.
Etho patted Joels’ shoulder, lifting his other hand to scratch the back of his own neck, “Ya see, Bdubs, after that whole debacle, I kinda joined my own alliance. A Fe-liance.”
“Oh.” Bdubs took a step back, wounded. “Oh, I see.”
“Aww man, Joel,” Etho caved immediately, turning to the tabby cat, “Can’t we keep him?”
“Absolutely not.”
“But look at him. How could you say no to that face?”
“Easily,” Joel said. Scott laughed.
“Gentlemen,” Scar clapped, grabbing everyone's attention once more. Lizzie made a loud ahem, her tail lashing out in warning. Scar quickly amended, “And Lady. Although this has been quite the joyous reunion, I do believe you three came here for business?”
“We came for information, actually,” Scott cut in, taking a step forward, “From Lizzie, really. I hear you’ve got quite the advantage in this game, this time around.”
Lizzie blinked owlishly, “Whatever do you mean?”
“Oh, she’s good,” Bdubs whispered to Jimmy and Etho, who were standing closest to him.
“That’s the same look you pull half the time,” Etho huffed, crossing his arms.
“Game recognizes game,” Bdubs nodded. “Did I say that right? Gem taught me that one.”
“Joel told me everything,” Scott said bluntly. Joel’s ears pinned back, betrayed.
Lizzie scowled, turning to her husband, “Joel! You had one job!”
“I didn’t know it was a secret!” Joel snapped, tabby tail lashing behind him.
“Of course it was a secret!” Lizzie huffed. She crossed her arms, glaring up at Scott. “Well, you already know, then. No fall damage.”
“No fall damage?” Etho repeated, eyes widening a fraction.
“At all?” Bdubs added. “Well, wouldn’t that be nifty.”
“Interesting,” Scott continued tapping his chin, “What else do you know?”
Lizzie glowered, “Maybe that’s all I know.”
“Oh, come on now,” Scott started, his tone lilting as he bent forward to get closer to Lizzie’s face, “You expect me to believe the great LDShadowlady spent all of her imperial days as a cat and learned only one thing?”
“Oh, Scott,” Lizzie said, turning her head shyly to the side, “You’re gonna make me blush.”
Joel visibly scowled.
“Anybody got blocks?” Etho asked, “I gotta try this no fall damage thing.”
“Oh, it’s amazing Etho,” Joel egged on, eager to latch onto any distraction from his wife’s annoyance at him, “I went all the way to the height limit. You saw!”
“I did see,” Etho agreed with a light laugh.
“Lizzie’s got cobble in her chest,” Jimmy pointed out, uncrouching from the chest he’d been rifling through..
Lizzie whirled around at him, “Jimmy! I saved your life and you’re going through my things?”
Etho grabbed two stacks easily, turning towards Bdubs, “What do you say, wanna give it a shot with me?”
Bdubs reddened, but he took the offered stack, “Oh, well, when you ask so nicely how could I possibly refuse?” Then he pocketed the stack and put his hands on his hips, “Are you CRAZY? I’m no cat! You think me a FOOL?”
Etho cackled, “Just keeping you on your toes, is all.” He wiped at his eye, and hopped up onto a block, “I’m still gonna check it out for myself, though.”
Bdubs watched with growing wariness as Etho ascended upwards. He could hear the bickering around him start to die down as all eyes veered toward the white cat in the sky.
“You know, this has me thinking,” Scar started, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, “We could be a whole traveling circus. Think of all the trapeze arts! No safety nets. It’d be spectacular. People would pay a fortune to see it. And there would be absolutely no clowns.”
“Shh,” Joel shushed, “He’s gonna jump. Jump into my arms Etho!!” he extended out his hands, only to be nudged in the side by both Scott and Lizzie adding up to one solid tick of damage against him.
Etho did jump and, without a drop of water, landed on his feet before them. His tail pointed straight out for balance and his own eyes were wide like even he couldn’t believe it. Then he turned toward his audience and asked, “Did that make you jump?”
“Oh, BROTHER,” Bdubs lamented, rolling his eyes. Hopefully, his lambasting would cover up the jealousy and admiration festering just underneath the surface.
“I didn’t go that far up,” Etho admitted sheepishly after a moment, stepping away from his stack, “But you know what, Bdubs? I bet you could water bucket clutch from that height.”
“No way,” Bdubs said.
“Perhaps we should change the saying from scaredy cat to scaredy dog,” Joel goaded.
“Good one,” Scott replied flatly.
“It was NOT,” Jimmy snapped, “Don’t listen to them Bdubs! You don’t need to prove nothin’.”
“Of course I’m not doing something that stupid,” Bdubs assured.
“I’ll give you this saddle,” Etho offered.
“Alright,” Bdubs sighed, pulling out the stack of cobblestone and starting to hop up into the sky. He ignored Jimmy’s squawking and Joel’s cackling, instead focusing on not slipping off his precarious tower. As he reached the halfway point he realized very quickly how stupid he was being. “Committing to the bit never did me wrong before,” he murmured to himself. He blinked and then snapped aloud, “Except for every time it did! What the heck am I doing up here!?”
He stared down at his audience and pursed his lips. He couldn’t mine down to them now. He’d never live it down. He’d bring great shame not only to himself but to all of dogkind. Plus, he really did want a saddle.
“You’re a professional, Bdubs,” he reminded himself, shaking off his nerves and squaring his shoulders. He pulled out his bucket of water, counted to three, then counted to three again, and then finally psyched himself out enough to just jump at the number two.
BDoubleO100 fell from a high place. ImpulseSV > OH NO! IntheLittleWood > First Blood TangoTek > Jimmy you can breathe now! ZombieCleo > I let you out of my sight for FIVE MINUTES
Bdubs opened his eyes at spawn and let out a frustrated scream. He stomped around trying to let the anger out. Oh, he was going to murder Etho, his eternal alliance be damned. He started hoofing it to the otherside of the lake, lamenting his lack of horse. His lack of anything. Especially with the sun already starting to set. It wouldn’t be long until night befell them.
“Bdubs! Over here!” he heard Jimmy shout. He turned his head to see that both Jimmy and Lizzie were running toward him, meeting him about halfway.
“We grabbed your stuff,” Jimmy said quickly as he started chucking items out of his pockets and onto the ground.
“I gave Etho quite the tongue lashing too,” Lizzie assured, “Put the fear of the void in ‘im for messing with my dogs like that.”
“Your dogs?” Jimmy questioned.
“I gave you each a bone, didn’t I?” Lizzie reminded him.
“I’ve got a bone to pick with a certain someone,” Bdubs interrupted, pushing past them after accounting for his relatively small amount of things. He sprinted the rest of the way and in no time he found exactly who he was looking for.
“ETHO, WHAT THE HECK!” Bdubs shouted, glaring as the white cat seemed to curl in on himself nervously. His white ears pinned so close to his head they became lost in his unruly hair.
“I swear I was gonna put down some water as a safety last minute,” Etho muttered, not looking him in the eye. He rummaged through his inventory and pulled out a horse saddle, “You still want the saddle?”
“I don’t want your BLOOD SADDLE!” Bdubs bellowed, stomping his foot for added effect. “I want my life back!”
“Uh,” Etho started, glancing over to his alliance for help.
Joel stepped in easily enough, “Sorry, Bdubs, we don’t speak dog.” He grabbed hold of Etho’s arm, pulling him away, “Etho! Scott! Uh, we should go work on the base! That isn’t here!”
“Right,” Etho agreed as he allowed himself to be dragged, “We’ve got a tree to build.”
“You’re even building trees without me, now?” Bdubs called out, “I hate you!”
“Quite the tragic break up we’re witnessing, huh boys,” Lizzie commented, shaking her head solemnly where she stood between Jimmy and Scar.
“What, you and Joel?” Scar blinked.
“What? No! Bdubs and Etho!” Lizzie snapped.
“But you’re sticking with me right? Not following your husband out there? I take loyalty very seriously here, Lizzie,” Scar warned.
“Of course!” Lizzie waved off, “That man’s dead to me.” She ignored the strangled cry of I heard that from Joel, instead giving Scar a bright cheery smile. He echoed it and the atmosphere seemed to grow a bit tenser, enough for Jimmy to take a wary step back.
“Timmy, where are you going?” Scar asked, turning towards him.
“Yeah, Jimmy, you’re one of us now, remember?” Lizzie cautioned.
Jimmy swallowed, “Uh, right, about that. You know, you two being cats, and us being dogs–”
“The circus doesn’t discriminate,” Scar waved off.
“You took the bone, Jimmy,” Lizzie reminded him sternly.
“Erm, Bdubs, what do you think?” Jimmy tried, turning desperately to the silent pug still watching the trio retreating in the distance.
Bdubs ignored him entirely, instead screaming out “WAIT!” at the top of his lungs.
Jimmy blanched as he watched his fellow dog sprint away from him, calling out a desperate plea of, “Don’t leave me here alone!”
Bdubs caught up to the cat trio easily enough. He stood right in front of Etho, who still looked too sheepish to meet his gaze. With his sternest glare he demanded, “Give me the saddle.”
Etho gave a nervous chuckle but handed over the item all the same. “So…we’re good now? No hard feelings?”
“Nope,” Bdubs answered with a cheery smile, “You’re absolutely dead to me!” He then swiveled round, racing back to join Lizzie, Scar and Jimmy where he left them.
“Oh, thank the void you didn’t abandon me,” Jimmy sighed out in relief.
“Abandon you? No! Never!” Bdubs assured, throwing an arm around the taller dog, “We’re bone brothers now.”
Lizzie cheered and Scar gave his own approving cackle as he swept them all in for a group hug. From within the inner circle, Bdubs continued, “Alright, new family, here’s the deal. I’ve got intel I can share about a whole host of these TRAITORS on this server.”
Still, even as he shared all he knew about the locations of the other players and their species, he couldn’t help glancing behind his back every now and then, just in case. And each time his eyes met only the empty landscape, he felt the cold wrap around his heart just a little bit tighter.

pls pls pls “that wrapping is terrible” with luke. i’m not convinced he can be neat after seeing his handwriting
Haha! Coming right up!
"Last Christmas, I gave you my heart!"
"Lord help my ears."
"Luke!" I playfully shoved him. "You're becoming a grinch!"
"I'm not, I've just got a headache and want to get the thing and go." he whined.
"Luke, we are buying a gift for your mother, we can't just get anything." I stated firmly. "Now look, what is something she would like, that neither of your brother would think of."
sighing deeply, he mumbled, "she like arts and crafty stuff, she's been obsessed with puzzles and those weird diamond painting things."
"Right then, that's a good place to start."
We then proceeded to spend an hour and a half in the target crafts section.
-
"Luke can you wrap this, please." I said walking out with the selections of yarns, needles and a crafty puzzle of Mt. Fuji and the lake in front of it, white wrapping paper covered in snowflakes in my other hand.
"Uhh, yeah sure." He spoke in a sceptical tone. Smacking Jack upside the head when he snickered. Walking over and standing next to me beside the kitchen table and look at all of the piled items. "Leave it to me baby, I promise you won't be let down."
"Alright then, have fun." I smiled back.
-
Walking back into the kitchen 20 minutes later to find Luke standing holding a very poorly wrapped present. "Luke. That wrapping is terrible."
"It's fine."
"ONE END OF IT'S OPEN!"
"I- Ok, Maybe you need to help me.
"Yes, I believe so too."
-:-
I Hope you enjoy it anon!!

May I ask for more sanegiyuu vore? It's so cuteee 😭😭
Of course! I am just gonna use an au I have cooked up. Plus, this gives you an idea of what happened to Giyu :3
Harpy's Lake Gem
The moon was up, its rays casting over the forest where mythical creatures resided in, illuminaring the landscape with its its gentle touch. The forest that held mysteries no human could solve, a puzzle too difficult for the human mind to complete. A foreign, but also familiar space for many who travel across the land to find the place.
Those who entered never came back. Many went missing upon entering the forest, many remains left out by the borders- a warning to any who dare to try to enter the forest without permission. Be it an arm or any other limb or a corpse, it didn't matter. It was still a warning.
But deep in the forest, a lake stood proud in the open in the heart of the forest. Its surface shone like gems, the water calm and at peace. The moonlight caressed the precious surface with care and a gentleness no one knew about. But as gorgeous as it looks from above and on land, there was a sinister aura that lurked beneath the surface- hidden from anyone by the facade of the innocent surface of the water.
The most deaths of humans occured here, in the heart of the forest, where no one would ever find the remains- gone and nowhere to be seen or to find their way out of this place. The lake was a trap- a deathtrap that had worked succesfully for the creature that resided in the lake it called home. It lured the next victims by just its voice alone, a song that no one could resist and follow.
A seastack on the far side, close to shore, sat comfortably with the water gently lapping at it. Ontop sat the cause of all the missing people that dared to enter the forest, right into its webbed hands.
A Siren.
Mythical creatures with the lower half of a fish and the upper half of a man, beings sailors told tales of- with a taste and appitite for human flesh, an appitite no human could understand. Its beauty hid away the sinister side deep beneath the surface. The beauty of the creature used to trick mankind, a facade to disguise their true intentions from mankind- violent beasts that drowned man for its own pleasures and needs. Sometimes feasting on the corpses of the victims it drowned.
The siren on the seastack had a beautiful tail as blue as sapphire stones with white diamond-shaped dots on the sides, the fins a transluscent baby blue colour, hair as black as a raven's with hints of almost invisble blue hues under the moon, dark blue eyes that pulled many in their gaze, fins acting like ears the same colour as the tail, the fingers a light blue colour that spread up to the elbow, claws a beautiful dark blue and webbing white, the upper torso covered in robes of red with a checkered pattern consisting of green and yellow.
The scales reflected the moonlight that caressed them, giving off a faint glow from the tail. It made the creature not only look majestic but also gorgeous and etheral, a beauty no one could take their eyes off of. A mask crafted over thousands of years to perfect the beauty.
The gentle sound of a song escaped its throat, sounding masculine in comparison to most feminine songs sung by the normal female sirens. Thus being identified as a male siren, a rare sight to behold as thete are few left in the world.
The fins on his head twitched as he heard something, another creature that he was all too familiar with. Someone the siren knew and had been friends with im the past, despite their historical rivalry, the wars both of these two mythical creatures had for thousands and thousands of years.
The siren turned his head slightly to look behind him, seeing all-too-familiar bird talons clutching onto the hard ricky surface, latched onto the stone to ensure that they don't let the creature slip off. He looked up, seeing a familiar face he had grown used to.
White hair that illuminated silver when light caressed the strands, purple eyes that glared daggers at him, scars on the face and lips formed into a frown. Dark green armour covered the chest, a black shirt underneath, a cloth of sorts hanging from the sides and tied to its waist, dark green pants that stopped right above the knee where the bird feet began to form. Black wings with white feathers at the edges, the tail matching the colour scheme of the wings. Green streaks right by the cheeks, feathers placed on either side where human ears would be acted as the ears.
" Shinazugawa-san."
" Tomioka."
The voice of the creature was a lot deeper and rough, as if it ate sand for breakfast instead of its preferred food. The hint of venom in the tone gave the siren, dubbed as Tomioka, an insight to what the creature wanted.
It wanted him for something, and that something he was unsure of. He couldn't place a clawed finger on what the winged creature wanted. And that creature was an expert at aerial hunting.
A Harpy.
Winged beasts with the lower half of a bird while the upper half was a human, arms replaced by wings larger than a human's body. Maybe larger than two humans stacked on each other. They came in many shapes and sizes, but they took on the species of any predatory bird. Their excellent aerial control in the air was phenomenal and more executed than any bird, surprassing their bird of prey counterparts.
" Is there something you need?"
The siren asked softly, a curious glint evident in the blue orbs that watched the Harpy with caution. He was aware that he was a delicacy for these aerial predators, nothing but a meal to them. He had to tread carefully if he didn't want to become Harpy food. However, he was unsure if the Harpy viewed him as a food source, seeing as he- identified by the masculine voice- never laid a talon on him.
" Does Kagaya-san need us in his presence?"
" No,"
The Harpy lowered his upper torso, bending it to be on eye level with the aquatic being.
" he does not need us in his presence."
Tomioka made a small frown, eyes squinted in confusion at the words that left Shinazugawa's- as Tomioka called him- mouth. The confusion did not leave his features, not until a talon pinned him against the rock, on his back. His back arched from the sudden contact of the cold surface, eyes widened as they stared at the purple ones that glared at him.
" It is you."
" What are-"
" It's your late night swimming that irritates me."
" Shinazu-"
" NO! Every time I patrol, I always see you swimming late at night!"
His jaws clenched in anger, body shaking with rage.
" And tonight is NO different! You think I don't notice the smallest of hints that you have insomnia?! Or the details like the dark circles under your eyes known as eyebags?!"
He growled, snarling at the being under his taloned foot, wings opened slightly to prove his point, to imply what he meant by his words. Tomioka just stared at him in disbelief, as if the Harpy had said that he had commited a crime...
" Don't try to hide it! I can see it from a mile away! Even Iguro can smell it from a mile away!"
" Sh-"
" No-! I am DONE watching you swim late at night when Iguro and I are on patrol!"
The pressure on the Siren's chest increased, before he was lifted up, off of the cold floor as his tail laid limp on the ground beneath. He had never seen the Harpy this irritated before, let alone concerned for his wellbeing. A warmth blossomed in his chest at the thought of someone caring for him.
" And I am going to do something about it."
He said dangerously low, above a whisper and his voice dripped with anger. Not only that, but the talons brought his face closer to Shinaguzawa's.
Before he could say anything, the lips in front of him parted, reavealing a cavern of flesh. Strands of saliva clung on the roof an anywhere it could cling onto, a tongue slipped out to give him a taste. He didn't react to it, however, as his attention was drawn to the pearly white teeth that were sharp and could snap him in half, crush bone. He was in a state of shock, not able to tell his body to move as it failed to co-operate with him.
It closed in front of him, and he stared at Shinazugawa wide-eyed.
" You taste better than I expected."
The Harpy murmured, tilting his head to the side, squinting his eyes in glee, something the Siren never saw.
Before long, the Harpy tilted his head straight and licked his lips. He- he wasn't going to- right? Tomioka felt a wave of panic hit him like a ton of bricks, a slap across the face full force.
The maw opened again and this time, his head was placed inside. He wanted to struggle, to scream and cry out for help, but his body refused, still in shock and trying to process what was going on.
It was warm, very warm. The humid air inside messed with his gills, threatening him to gasp for air a lot nicer than the dry air he was forced to inhale-! But he didn't, he couldn't. His body didn't belong to him as he was swallowed, body sliding down the now tight tube with ease like he was nothing. As if he was a small fish that slid down the throat of a crocodile... His skin got irritated by the dry air, unable to handle the warmth the air inside the Harpy provided. It was unbearable, and quite itchy.
By the time he got his body to struggle, it was too late as his head slipped into a roomier organ, the rest of his body following soon after.
It was hot, humid and with a liquid that filled tbe organ, stopping the itching he felt on his skin and scales. He panicked, body jerking away at the sudden pressure on his back. His eyes wide as realization of where he was dawned on him. He was in Shinaguzawa's stomach, a place he feared the most.
" Shinazugawa-san! Let me out!"
He panicked, body about ready to hyperventilate as the shock wore off, adrenaline the new booster to help his body to hyperventilate. His body shook.
" Let me out! Please! I beg of you!"
He yelled, trembling as his eyes were blurred by the tears that formed, jerking as a sob left his form. He held his head with both webbed hands, covering his finned ears that flattened against his head and closed his eyes, gritting his teeth. The waterfall got out of the walls known as tear ducts.
" Please- please Sanemi! Please! Pleasepleasepleaseplease-"
He repeated, unable to do anything but beg Sanemi to let him go, to not let him die in this place other sirens had died.
<_>_<_>
He stared at his middle in shock, where his hand would've been if he had human arms rested on the slightly bulged area his "meal" was in, begging for his life to be spared, pleading.
Did- did he not realize that he... oh no-! Oh nomonononono! He didn't-
Panic enveloped his body when he was called by his first name. Did his insomnia affect him to the point of not thinking rationally? That him and Tomioka were a thing? This- oh god... The thought of digesting a living creature and his mate alone made him sick.
He rubbed his middle, trying to soothe and calm the the hyperventilating Siren down as best as he could while he hummed.
" Hey- hey-! It's okay! It's okay!"
He wanted to calm down his poor mate, tried to reassure him that he was not in any danger- that they have done this before with comforting words! But they didn't leave his throat after he spoke or tried to speak again. The words evaporated from the tip of his tongue.
All he could do was push thrpugh it all and just head back to his place located on a massive and broad seastack where a cave was.
He opened his wings and crouched down, jumping in the air and took off, heading back to his cave- his home. He couldn't use words to calm Tomioka down... he'll just hope that he realizes that he is safe-
His feathered ears twitched as he heard shaky breathes, the heartrate of the siren inside the organ slow and at a pace he was familiar with- that he grew fond of. He sighed in relief, in time to land gracefully on the edge of the cave.
His talons scraped against the stone beneath them as he entered, checking his surroundings to make sure that nothing was out of the ordinary. Besides Genya sleeping in the mest he built for him.
It was a long night, and restless one. He was tired, wanting to gain energy for what the next day wpuld bring. He stopped in his tracks and laid down like a bird, eyes closing as he focused on the weight in his crop. He'll rest his eyes for a few minutes... It wouldn't kill anyone if he rested a little, right?
And so, he dosed off, joining his brother and Giyu in dreamland where everything that had happened was nothing more than an old and bad memory.

Immortalized Muses
Authors Word: Woo, ok, this took me easily two months to write.
This came to life after having a dream about Rafayel and I attending an art exhibition and him begging me to be in a picture with him after I refused. (Basically this is a glorified retelling of the dream tbh haha)
This is my first time displaying my writings on this account so I hope you all enjoy
- Mikaela 🤍🪽
Warnings/Themes: Mutual Pining, swearing/profanity, non-established relationship (they're friends/employer & employee), Rafayel throwing hints like confetti, mild smut(??), mentions of sexual tones of voice, mentions of alcohol/being tipsy and/or drunk, banter banter, Rafayel is a princess (big surprise)
Please let me know if I missed any themes
Tags: Rafayel x MC (MC is they/them so it can apply to any gender)
"Why do you keep disappearing?"
With a jump, y/n turned towards the intrusion of their solace.
"Rafayel..." With sheepish welcome, they bowed their head looking at their reflection in their drink, knowing that they'd wandered off again and left Rafayel alone at the after party for the exhibition, "Sorry, I just needed some air..."
He made a grunt of recognition and came to stand beside them, leaning his elbows on the intricate steel woven fence around the balcony, overlooking a calm rippling lake, decorated with trees and local habitations to be spotlighted by the gentle moon hung in the night sky, speckled with stars like diamonds on velvet to bounce off his sun kissed skin and lavender locks, "I thought you'd gone home."
Looking down into their drink they swished it around the glass, ice knocking against the crystal and straw poised between their index and middle finger, eager for another sip, "No, I wouldn't do that."
"Overwhelmed?"
They nodded in reply, "I just needed to take a break."
Rafayel's eyebrows creased, a pout working its way onto his charming features, "The reporters were taking pictures downstairs, I couldn't see you anywhere and had to make this perilous journey to find you."
They deadpanned, pursing their lips as Rafayel started his theatrics.
"For all I know you could've been swooped up by some criminal who'd gate crashed the party!"
"Aren't I supposed to be your bodyguard?" - they sipped their drink with a snide snort - "What do you pay me for if not to look after your safety and my own?"
He genuinely pouted now, shooting y/n a half hearted glare, "Oh, you know what I mean."
They smiled, genuinely knowing exactly what he meant.
"That lonely, hmm?"
Rafayel looked away, leaning back from the railing to stand tall, ears burning red, arms crossed as he kicked his heel out and spun away from y/n to saunter off with a huff, "Just come back downstairs already."
°°°°
Smoothing the silk of their outfit, y/n took a deep breath, their shoes clacking against the grandiose marble floors.
They felt a little out of place in such an outfit but Rafayel always insisted. Y/n had no choice when the ornate crisp white outfit made of silk and chiffon was laid on their bed, pearl accessories and details lined with tints of pastel blues.
Then Rafayel would insist on doing make-up for y/n, his skills on a paintbrush transferring to an array of beauty brushes.
Y/n always came out looking like the multiple zeros on a check he'd get for one of his paintings and they always felt their heart beat a little fast when they noted how much time and care Rafayel put into dressing them up to be the prized Belle of the Ball.
"Ah, there you are!" Rafayel greeted them, wrapping an arm around their shoulder and whispering a quick 'Help me!' in their ear.
Y/n chuckled but it soon died in their throat as they heard the business man drone on about monetary prospects of Rafayel's studio.
His arm was retrieved to his side and he showed utmost interest in the poor fool as he droned on, gums flapping like a pig at a troph, greed seeping into their every word and not a care for the art that Rafayel poured his blood, sweat and pearlescent tears into that was displayed around the exhibition like an ornate frame to the arrogant masses.
Y/n even swore they saw Rafayel's eyes twitch once or twice and couldn't tell if it was from the other mans ignorance, Rafayel's affinity with boredom or if their little rest bite from the party before was still grating on him.
They deemed it well to stay put and endure the rest of the night and took a sip of their drink, eyeing the bar like an old lover already.
"Hey, get me a red wine?" Rafayel whispered in their ear, goosebumps flooding their skin, "I fucking need it."
They looked at him from the corner of their eyes and nodded, seeing the ever present smirk and surety displayed in his eyes, behind it was waves of exhaustion and desperation.
He wanted nothing more than for this night to end, just as much as y/n did. They pitied the poor artist.
With a curt nod, they excused themselves to the drink bar, "Old fashioned and a wine."
"Top or bottom shelf?"
They looked over their shoulder as another business man slung his arm over Rafayel's shoulders, laughing boisterously as Rafayel visibly stiffened, his white knuckled fists slipping into his pockets to disguise his annoyance and crafting a smile on his face.
"The one that'll have the highest alcohol percentage." - They snuck a glance at him again, his jaw now visibly tensed, his smile becoming a grimace - "Stat."
°°°°
As the money hungry ladder climbers of the night slowly dispersed to their ubers and chauffeurs alike home, Thomas, Rafayel and themself got to winding down the night. Close friends, family and beneficiaries hung back for group pictures and y/n stuck to the side, nibbling on some fancy hors d'oeuvres.
Rafayel's aunt pulled him in for a selfie, pinching his cheeks as he weakly protested with a groan and y/n couldn't help but giggle when Thomas threw himself into the mix enveloping them both from behind in a hug to join the picture.
There wasn't a sober soul in the venue, that was for damn sure.
Y/n couldn't help the smile creeping onto their face at the pleasant scene of Rafayel - despite his eagerness to leave - visibly loosening up and finally enjoying himself with his people, not the riff raff with obese wallets and closed minds.
Looking up from the empty glass, y/n saw Rafayel's gaze over his shoulder at them.
They raised a brow, wondering why Rafayel was staring at them.
Maybe he was tired and wanted to be escorted home?
They'd get their answer, as Rafayel slipped from Thomas' and his Aunts embrace to stride over and stand against the wall beside Y/n.
"Having fun?" They asked.
"I guess," Rafayel sighed, "Just really fucked."
Y/n could tell, since Rafayel's pleasantries and ability to save face had flown out the window with his language and demeanor.
They dusted their curled finger against his cheek, his dark under eyes starting to show through the concealer he'd applied before the event.
He sighed, his bunched shoulders dropping slightly as he closed his eyes, basking in the gentle and tender touch they gave him, his fists loosened, going slack in his pockets as he revealed in the touch.
"We'll get you back to your home soon," Y/n spoke, retrieving their hand away, pressing their watch as a holographic monitor buzzed to life, "It's nearly one in the morning, Gods...."
They called for a ride to take him back to his place and the other guests were doing the same to head to their own respective abodes.
"Rafayel!" His Aunt called and waved him over and he stiffened, "Come over here, we're taking one last picture."
They leant against the wall as Rafayel began to stride over to meet the group of people. He stopped, turning to them and placed out his hand in offering to join.
"Pass." Y/n held their open palm up in front of him, "I'm not someone who should be in such a picture, I'm just your bodyguard."
He turned fully to speak to them, eyebrows creased and lips pursed, "Nonsense, come."
They shook their head, an apologetic smile on their face, "No, no...you go, I'll keep an eye out for-"
"Quit being stubborn," Rafayel quipped, his tone more rough than usual with his fatigue and waning patience, "I want you in the picture, so you'll be in the picture."
Deciding to skip their words of protest they turned on their heel to go stand outside and wait for the ride. Their plan fell short as Rafayel grabbed their arm, his hold strong enough that they couldn't break free but gentle enough as to not hurt them, "Stay..."
Y/n tilted their head, irritation spiking as they looked over their shoulder with pursed lips and a raised brow. They decided to play on his ego, hoping their bargaining chip would shake the painter off, "Beg then."
A look of shock splashed across his features like paint across a canvas. His lips parted, looking for a comeback but instead he let go of their arm.
Y/n thought they were free, going to turn on their heel until his arm snaked around their shoulders, fingers dusting their slightly exposed collarbone with strands of hair interwoven through his fingertips. He lent down, his face to the side of theirs as his other hand tucked their hair behind their ear, his lips dusting against the shell of their ear as he whispered in a low hum, "Please..."
They felt a jolt through their body, their breath hitched to flee their mouth in a squeak.
Rafayel continued his assault of words against their ear, sending electric currents through their veins to rise as a bright crimson blush on their cheeks. His tone was reminiscent of a whine closing in on whimpering.
"Please, Y/n....Please stay, please don't walk away, stay for me? Please darling, I really want you, I really really need you, please I need you beside me-"
With what energy they could muster between their hitched breathing and trembling limbs they pushed the artist off them and stormed towards the group of people readying themselves for the picture.
"Fine! Gods, Rafayel..." Y/n groaned and stood fixing their hair to the side of the group.
They could feel Rafayel's smug, triumphant smirk burning into the back of their skull and they tried not to bristle with frustration that Rafayel got his way.
As Thomas set the timer everyone huddled in and around the artist. Rafayel pulled Y/n flush by his side, his arm around their waist, fingers gripping into the plush flesh of their clothed hip. He leant down as the timer counted down to whisper once more in their ear.
"Art is meant to be witnessed...Do you really think I wouldn't pose with my favorite art piece?"
Y/n blush and Rafayels smug smile of victory were immortalized within that photograph forever.

Master List | Prev | Next
Dusk in early spring was the epitome of solitude. Crickets sang through the night as fireflies lit up the forest, creating twilit pathways to be explored. The night was young and waiting for anyone to explore its depths.
The tranquility of the woods put Jeonghan’s mind at ease as he threaded through the greenery. In one hand he held his tome and in the other his shoes, feeling the earth beneath his feet always immersed him in his surroundings. After he parted with Sage in the glade, he longed to experience the late evening air at the grand lake.
Breaching the treeline and finding his place on the same rock as before, Jeonghan rolled the ends of his pants legs up to dip his feet in the water. Upon contact with the lake’s current, the pale skin of his legs shimmered with a reflective quality, catching the low light of the deepening sky.
He let himself relax, closing his eyes to enjoy the subtle smell of the lake. It would have been perfect if it weren’t for the abrupt sloshing of water.
An elongated sigh escaped his lips as he opened his eyes only to see his friend and his kin, Junhui, emerge from the water, wearing a thin, white linen shirt and loose black trousers matted to his body along with his shaggy blond hair. Gray-blue eyes met Jeonghan’s brown, with an expressionless stare.
“Do you have a good reason to interrupt my alone time?” The raven haired man asked, clearly annoyed.
Junhui scoffed. “Considering most of your time is ‘alone time’- I wouldn’t be able to find a good reason.”
Jeonghan rolled his eyes. He planned on brooding the night away, but his younger kin had to appear and ruin it. The blond sat on a rock opposite from Jeonghan. His eyes searched for some kind of reaction in the older man.
“If you have something to say, spit it out.” Pleasantries were not on Jeonghan’s list of priorities as a sneer formed on his face.
Junhui hesitated, he wasn’t offended, all too accustomed to Jeonghan’s attitude to take offense. “You’ve been well fed lately…”
The statement garnered attention from Jeonghan, his gaze was seething and judgmental as if to say ‘so what?’ .
“If you’re going to be a glutton you may as well share…” Junhui said, voice laced with jealousy. “Who is it anyway? The one you’ve been indulging in?” He leaned in, curiosity beamed off of him.
“That is none of your business.” Jeonghan replied as he lifted his legs from the lake to lounge on the rock. “And you know I’m not one for sharing…”
“Not even with your brother?”
“We’re only related through our parents marrying, brother is a generous term.”
Junhui grabbed his heart dramatically. “Oh! You wound me! How could you treat your brother with such malice?”
With the click of his tongue, Jeonghan decided he had enough foolishness and in one swift motion he stood from the rock. He grabbed his shoes and sauntered toward the tree line, purposefully ignoring the young man who had invaded his space.
“I’ll figure it out!” Junhui called out. “I always figure it out…”
The words fell on deaf ears as Jeonghan strode away from the lake. Only the soft splashing of Junhui returning to the water was heard. Jeonghan dreaded that eventually his younger brother would do exactly as he said.
Jeonghan followed the forest path instead of swimming through the lake and down the river. The forest offered peace and silence. Besides, he wouldn't want dripping wet clothes where he was going, it would result in him getting scolded.
Winding through the trees, Jeonghan clung to the shadows to remain unseen to any watchful eyes. In his mind the foliage was safer than any road in Diamond Hall, not to mention faster. The paved roads wove through the trees, creating difficult paths to follow, whoever made them had a poor sense of direction.
The sound of the nearby river’s current was now within earshot, alerting Jeonghan that he was close to his destination. With careful steps, he navigated toward the sound of the running water. Beyond the treeline he could see the dark outline of a black brick cottage, quaint and alone near the river’s edge.
Golden light shone through the windows of the bottom level, the source of the warm glow akin to that of a fireplace’s flame. Through the window, Jeonghan could see a figure near the fire, warming their hands as they sat on a plush couch. It was not the Arcanist he was looking for so he turned his gaze upwards to the second level. There was no light in the upstairs windows save for a small lantern that illuminated a standing figure. The figure's face stared off in the direction of Jeonghan, who was idly waiting in the treeline.
Swiftly and quietly, Jeonghan snuck his way to the side of the house, he remembered that one of the windows had a busted latch, making it easy to crawl in.
“Gustus.” Jeonghan whispered softly.
A strong wind built at his feet, and with a bit of strength, he leapt onto the roof that sat outside the window. He silently pushed the window open, noting that the latch was left unlocked and without a sound he planted his feet on the hardwood floor. The figure was still peering out the window, presumably lost in the darkness. Jeonghan’s footsteps were unheard as he closed in on the man before him.
“You have to do a better job of sneaking. One of my alarms caught you.” The man spoke, breaking the silence.
Jeonghan snickered as he closed the distance between them, standing close enough to feel the warmth radiate off of his company.
“The latch was unlocked… Were you waiting for me?”
The man turned around, his chestnut brown hair was messy, slightly obscuring his eyes as he met Jeonghan’s gaze.
“As I said- My alarms caught you.” He said with a small smile.
Jeonghan squinted his eyes in suspicion as he leaned in. “You said one alarm, Joshuji.”
“Don’t call me that.”
“Aw- But why?” Jeonghan cooed. “The way your face heats up is delectable .”
“I feel colder than the northern tundras- Please, just call me by my name- my actual name.”
Jeonghan shrugged. “Whatever you say, Shua. And you can’t lie to me by the way, you’re a furnace compared to me.”
“J. O. S. H. U. A. Joshua.”
“Shua!”
Joshua sighed in defeat and shook his head to quell his frustration. “What do you want, Jeonghan?”
Jeonghan skipped toward Joshua’s cluttered desk and scanned its surface. A metal-like chunk of rock rested on a stack of books, it glimmered in the lowlight of the lantern.
“What is this pretty thing?” Jeonghan asked as he studied the mineral.
“Magnetite, it looks like ordinary iron but its properties are much stronger.”
Jeonghan raised an eyebrow. “How so?”
Joshua pulled out the chair and sat at his desk, he thumbed through the pages of his journal and stopped at a page full of notes. “Magnetite is known for its ability to attract and hold. It has been used to enhance or invoke feelings of love and loyalty.”
“Ah- I see.” Jeonghan said as he leaned over Joshua’s shoulder to read the rest of the page. “Make me something, using that stone.”
“Now why would you want that?” Joshua asked as he grabbed the stone from the black haired man.
“I want to give a gift to someone.”
Bewildered, Joshua gasped. “You give gifts?”
Jeonghan hid his annoyance with a lazy scoff. “Fine. Forget I asked.” He fixed his posture and turned for the exit.
“No. You don’t just get to leave.” Joshua grasped Jeonghan’s wrist. “Who’s the lucky person who has captured Prismus Yoon’s attention?”
Jeonghan grimaced. “Do not call me that.”
“Consider it payback.” Joshua’s smile reached his eyes as he laughed.
There was no reason for Jeonghan to linger if he couldn’t get what he wanted. He turned his attention toward the still open window and sighed.
“Look- I’ll make you something with a small chunk of magnetite if you tell me who it’s for.”
Jeonghan chewed his bottom lip as he thought of his answer. He could tell the truth, that he wanted to give Sage a gift that would signify their friendship. Or he could spin a lie and tell Joshua that he wanted it for himself, that a necklace would be perfect for his aesthetic.
“I’ve been teaching the newcomer our language. We’ve become close over the past few months and I think a gift would be a good way to congratulate them on how far they’ve come.”
It was a half truth, but Joshua would understand. Jeonghan was never the best when it came to emotions and expressing them.
“I see…” A small grin formed on Joshua’s face. “I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting them yet, but I’m glad you two are getting along. I always said you needed a friend.”
“We aren’t friends?”
Joshua stared at Jeonghan for an uncomfortable amount of time before a breathy chuckle escaped him. “You’re funny.”
A loud, dramatic gasp roared out of Jeonghan. “We’re not friends?!”
Startled chirping and the sound of crinkling made the two men turn around to see Joshua’s pangolin rouse from its slumber.
“You woke up Hewie. She helped me with spell work today- she needs her rest.” Joshua said as he walked over to the armored familiar and smoothed its scales. “By the way- where’s Obsidian? I haven’t seen the little guy in a while.”
“He’s probably balled up with Jun’s familiar back home.” Jeonghan sighed. “Speaking of home- I should get going, I’ve been up since dawn.”
Joshua nodded in understanding. “Okay, I’ll work on the necklace. Do you want me to polish the stone or keep it in its raw form?”
“Which makes for a stronger catalyst?” Jeonghan sauntered over to the window.
“Unpolished. Is that what you want?”
With a nod, Jeonghan hoisted himself out of the window only to peek his head back in. “Goodnight, Joshuji!”
“Get out!”
Jeonghan smirked and laughed as he hopped off the roof, casting another gust of wind to cushion his landing. Lazily, he made his way back through the forest to return home. It had been a long day for him and he was ready to pass out the second he hit his bed.
The fog of unconsciousness slowly cleared as you felt a bundle of warmth nuzzle into the crook of your neck. Soft blankets and pillows encased your form, restricting your ability to move. Using most of your strength, you struggled against the covers to sit up only to hear a small squeak. Peering down at your pillows, you saw a sleeping Kelpy clutch onto your arm and held it close.
Cuddling next to the otter was Yucca, his ears laid flat and relaxed. On the other side, Ruby woke up due to the noise and Shadow huffed with mild annoyance at the foot of your bed. Even Eris was curled up on the floor next to your bed and across from her sat Dino, who had dozed off in the plush wingback chair by the window.
You didn’t remember going to bed, all you were able to recollect was spending the day with Jeonghan and then returning home to eat dinner. Mingyu was stuck with dish duty, washing the plates when you entered. He had said something about Vernon being concerned about you, but the actual conversation escaped you.
Delicately, you picked up Ruby, placing him in your lap and petting his fluffy coat. Ruby sighed in content as your fingers carded through his fur. A louder squeak resonated from Kelpy, a jealous squeak as he tried to shove himself onto your lap as well.
With a soft exhale, Dino startled awake. A relieved smile painted his face as he locked eyes with you. “You’re up, good.”
“Did I pass out again?” There was a subtle tremble to your voice, the anxiety of possible harm plagued your mind.
“Yes.” Dino answered in a calm manner. “But only for one day this time.” He rose from the chair to grab his suitcase.
“Am I being examined again?”
Dino returned to the bed with a sigh. “I know it’s bothersome, but we need to be sure you are unharmed.”
“It’s been months since the last time I passed out-”
“If I’m being honest with you Sage, it concerns me more that there was such a long period of time in between…” Dino grabbed the clear crystal from its case and began his examination.
The words made you pause to think and eventually worry.
“Because that means I missed something.”
You turned your attention to Dino who studied you with stern eyes and a slight frown. A sense of stress and failure bubbled in your chest; your friend was disappointed in himself. Despite your better judgment you blamed no one other than yourself, none of this would be happening if you weren’t broken.
“D- Chan…”
He perked up at the use of his birth name, an expression equivalent to that of a kid who was about to be scolded. Instead of berating him, you outstretched your arms, silently offering a hug. With a small smile, Dino sat on the edge of the bed and accepted the affection.
“Don’t beat yourself up over this.” You told him. “I’ll be fine. You always fix me up.”
Dino’s heart swelled with adoration and he smiled as he tucked himself into the hug. You tightened your hold on him, fearing that if you didn’t Dino would doubt your gratitude.
“Sage-” He giggled. “I can’t breathe.”
You loosened the hug with a sheepish smile. “Sorry.”
The examination resulted in more of the same, nothing life threatening, just fatigue and migraines. Dino handed you a freshly enchanted vial of peppermint, explaining that the only thing he could do is help with discomfort since there wasn’t anything wrong with you. After ensuring that you were stable, he grabbed a defiant Kelpy, who was still resting on your lap and left with a quick goodbye.
There was a short moment of silence before your door opened again and a mildly perturbed Jihoon entered. You assumed he was here for Ruby, but you were proven wrong when he climbed on to the bed to sit across from you. His expression was serious as he looked at you and exhaled, a wandering hand went to Shadow’s ear, scratching the thick fur.
“Are you feeling better?” A strong wave of sincerity radiated off of Jihoon as he spoke.
The question caught you off guard, you and Jihoon were comfortable around each other, but definitely not as close as you and Vernon or as talkative as Soonyoung. It wasn’t awkward per se but the two of you never really had a reason to hang out. Ruby, the sweet little guy, interacted with you more than Jihoon himself.
“Uh- Yeah… I’m feeling a lot better now. I think I just wore myself too thin these past few weeks.”
“You mean throughout the end of winter and beginning of spring? Try a few months, Sage.” Jihoon’s voice turned stern. “Mingyu freaked out when you passed out, Vernon and Soonyoung were pacing around the house and Ruby was so worried he refused to leave your side. Dino rushed over as fast as he could, but Mingyu had already tried healing you…”
You nearly sprung out of bed. “Is Mingyu alright?”
Mingyu was a caring individual, he had a big heart and kind personality. He was a textbook example of a true Vitae , a healer who valued charity and altruism. If he tried to heal you that meant he put himself in a weakened state to help you, another debt to be paid.
“He’s fine, Sage. Sit back down.” Jihoon motioned with his hands for you to calm down. “He refused to return to the springs, so he’s sleeping in my room right now.”
“I should go thank him-” You rose from your bed again, the speed in which you shot up causing you to teeter.
Jihoon swiftly yet gently grabbed your arm. “Sage, please. Resting and healing is enough of a thank you for him.”
With a sigh, you sat back down and pulled the covers up to your shoulders.
A small smile formed on Jihoon’s lips. “Rest a little bit more. I’m going to take Yucca back to Mingyu.” He reached out for the fennec fox, picking up its small form and cradling it as he walked to the door. “C’mon Ruby, let’s make sure Mingyu is comfortable.”
The red panda took one last glance at you before following his Arcanist into the hall, leaving you with Shadow and Eris. The black wolf was still fast asleep at the foot of your bed, he was practically melting into the comforter. Eris on the other hand remained on the floor with only a rug underneath her.
You lightly poked her round tipped ear. “Eris-” You whispered.
She looked at you with tired blue eyes. “What is it?”
“There’s room on the bed now if you want something softer to lay on…”
Without another word, Eris leapt onto the bed making Shadow’s ear twitch, but he remained asleep. The snow leopard kneaded the mattress next to you and after spinning herself in a circle, plopped down to nap. Carefully, you scooched closer to her, even though you were under the covers you felt a slight chill. Eris was warm and soft, like a big stuffed animal. You would never tell her this for fear of your livelihood, but you were safe in your thoughts or so you hoped.
There was a shuffling outside of your door. A low voice, presumably Vernon’s, was heard speaking in the hall. The footsteps slowly grew clearer and eventually there was a faint knock at your door.
“I’m up-” You called out. “Come in.”
Vernon’s handsome face peeked past the door, a kind smile spread across his face.
You lit up the moment you saw your friend. “First Dino, then Jihoon. Now you and So-”
Before you could finish your statement, Vernon entered the threshold of your room and behind him followed Archivist Jeon. Despite your best efforts to hide your feelings, a subtle grimace contorted your features.
“Hello, Sage. Dino informed me of your condition.” Archivist Jeon paused for a moment, staring at Eris. “I was unaware that your familiar had manifested…”
“Oh- Sorry. I’m still not used to this-” You waved your hands in the air, as you spoke in half-truths. “I wasn’t sure who to tell so I stayed quiet. Everyone here kind of just ran into her eventually…”
Cosmos peered around Archivist Jeon, yellow eyes studying both you and Eris.
The Archivist trained his gaze on you as he remained near the doorway. “My title as Grand Archivist is not an overly elaborate word I use to describe myself, Sage.” He spoke in a reserved tone, voice low and chilling. “I am the acting power here in Diamond Hall, the Mayor, if you need a relative term. We are all a part of this community and I prefer to understand those who live within it. It’s for the security and well-being of all of us, do you understand?”
Maintaining eye contact became a challenge as Archivist Jeon continued to speak with his full attention on you. Eris’s gaze turned cold as she watched the Archivist blabber, obviously not entertained by his speech. Even Vernon and Shadow shifted uncomfortably as he spoke.
“I understand-” Your throat went dry as you looked down at your blanket, aimlessly playing with the cloth. “I’ll be sure to tell you everything from now on.”
As if realizing what he just said, something in Archivist Jeon softened. He approached the side of your bed and sat along the edge, holding his hand out to you. There was a moment of uncertainty, but you swallowed the feeling and placed your hand in his.
Archivist Jeon tenderly squeezed your hand, staring at your palm as he drew the ghost of a sigil on the skin. “I do not wish to sound cruel, Sage…” A dim glow shone on his finger as he traced the symbol. “We all have been through a lot, some of us are still healing and that includes you. All I ask of you is to stop avoiding me, I want to help you just as much as your friends here but I cannot aid you if you refuse to speak with me.”
You nodded your head, listening to every word he spoke. In this moment Archivist Jeon no longer appeared stone-like and intimidating, his expressionless eyes turned kind and his lips tugged into a delicate smile. His overall aura had changed from cold tyrant to stalwart guardian, a feeling of ease washed over you as you managed to make eye contact.
When Archivist Jeon unclasped your hand you were left with a light weight in your palm. Looking down, you saw a perfectly crafted, silver acorn.
“What’s this for?” You ran your thumb over the smoothness of the seed.
Archivist Jeon rose from the bed and straightened his suit. “An acorn for luck. There is no enchantment, it is nothing but a simple sentiment.”
“Thank you…” You mumbled as Archivist Jeon made way for the door.
He offered a nod in response and proceeded to exit your room. Cosmos stayed for a moment longer, staring at both you and Eris one last time before following her Arcanist. Vernon closed the door behind Cosmos and after a few seconds, released a deep breath.
Turning around, Vernon met your gaze and the two of you shared a moment of silence. The abrupt sounds of Shadow scratching behind his ear snapped the two of you out of your awkward staring contest. Eris grumbled in irritation as the bed shook due to the wolf’s endless movement.
“Did you get that speech as well?” There was a jovial tone to your voice as you tried to lighten the atmosphere.
Vernon huffed a short sigh. “I mean- Yeah. I didn’t really understand everything that was going on around here until a few months in.” He plopped stomach first onto your bed and pet Shadow. “I didn’t get a cool acorn though- Why are you getting all these gifts? I got jack when I got here.”
“Guess I’m just popular.” You bit your lip in an attempt to hold in your laughter.
Vernon scoffed. “Oh, I see~ You’re so special, Sage.”
The both of you shared a look and not even a second later, the two of you burst out laughing. Shadow’s tail began to wag as he saw you and Vernon smiling, excited that it might be time to play.
“I wanna go to the balcony, but Jihoon told me to rest…” There was a slight whine to your voice.
Vernon chuckled as he watched you sink into your mattress. “I’m sure some fresh air won’t kill you. C’mon, I’ll help you up.” He held his hands out for you.
Slowly, you rose from your bed, using Vernon’s hands as support to safely plant your feet on the ground. Shadow hopped off the bed, standing close to you in case you needed stability while you and Vernon journeyed to the balcony.
The evening sky was a mural of marbled orange and purple, slowly darkening the sky to reveal the two rising moons. A peaceful silence filled the confines of the balcony as you and Vernon relaxed, enjoying the cool air. Exhaling a content sigh, you peered up at the deepening sky, watching as the stars began to appear.
“What did Chan say about your condition?” Vernon asked, breaking the silence.
“That I just need to take better care of myself.” You didn’t need to look at Vernon to know that his expression turned worried. “There’s nothing physically wrong, he just said that I was fatigued.”
“So you’ve been over exerting yourself?”
Staring out into the sky, you took a moment to yourself to think. With how the past few months have been you wouldn’t say you have been pushing yourself too hard. If anything you were enjoying yourself, learning about the Arcane and its language. Your time spent here was everything but tiring, you were sleeping well, eating great thanks to Mingyu, and you liked the people you were surrounded by.
“I wouldn’t say that.” You were confident in yourself. “The first month was rough but after that everything was amazing. I guess I have been a little tired, but I always go to bed when I start dozing off at my desk!”
Vernon held his hands up in surrender. “Hey- I’m not accusing you of anything! I’ve seen that you take care of yourself- well- when you’re here I see it…”
“Oh…” You remembered a bit of your conversation with Mingyu last night. “Yeah, I know I’ve been a little hard to reach lately, sorry about that.”
“It’s okay, Sage. You’ve been busy with learning and it’s obviously paying off.” He laughed softly at his own statement. “I mean- I’ve been here longer than you and I don’t even know the Lingua Magica.”
“I just learned a language, nothing cool.” A dry chuckle rasped out of you. “I’m not throwing lightning like you are.”
Vernon raised an inquisitive brow. “Learning an ancient language is cool, Sage…”
Rolling your eyes, you playfully scoffed and shook your head. “I learned that ancient language because I wanted to better understand all those magical tomes in the archives.” You huffed out a sigh. “But none of that magic is sticking. Only this stupid Empath shit.”
“Hey, I don’t think it’s stupid. Do you know how many people would love to be able to know how others are feeling just by looking at them?” Shadow nudged Vernon’s hand, asking for attention. “I sure would…”
The words resonated, there was a weight to them, and even though you tried to will your empathy away it told you everything. Vernon was struggling with something or someone…
Thankfully your little talent didn’t go any further. You learned the surface thoughts and you were able to will yourself from morphing Vernon’s emotions. Unique talent or not, it all just seemed wrong. Every time you inflicted your own emotions onto another person it made you feel like an asshole. People are people and should have the freedom to work through their own emotions. You just hoped that you were able to keep a tight leash on this magic.

Happy Birthday Fudgie!
Undertale by Toby Fox
For Fudgelling-Away @fudgelling-away
Sans x self insert
Here is a small drabble / fic I wrote for you :3
Amalia and Sans put on aprons and cooking hats.
Sans noticed that Amalia was wearing a piece of cloth to cover her hair.
He looked at her questioningly.
"I don't want my hair to go into the cake. That'd be gross and not cool".
He nodded.
Amalia brought the ingredients.
Sans carried the equipment and book for the recepie.
Sans and Amalia looked at the equipment, ingredients and slowly at each other.
They grinned.
"ready? amalia?"
"Born Ready Sans!"
They grinned and began action.
They read the recipe.
They added the ingredients and mixed them together.
They made the base.
They fixed the chocolate, cream, caramel and condensed milk.
They built and decorated the cake.
It was chocolate, cream, condensed milk and caramel.
"amalia?" Sans hesitantly asked.
"Hm?" she murmured trying to decorate the cake.
"why so much condensed milk cans?"
Amalia stopped and looked at the cans. "Well, she likes it! I've seen her spooning it, drinking it from the can, licking her fingers. She loves it.. I believe next thing she goes feral other than you, it condensed milk".
Sans nodded.
Sans blushed at what she said. His face turned reddish. Amalia smirked.
They had bought a second cake; in case what they were making, was a total disaster.
After they were done with their cake.
They began decorating the room.
Amalia brought some balloons.
Then went to take a bath and prepare themselves.
Amalia was giggling. Sans was smiling.
Sans put on his good clothes. A white shirt, brown pants, black shoes and blue jacket.
Amalia put on her maxi dress, fixed her hair, added makeup and fragrance.
.
.
.
They heard the keys and the door opening.
Fudgie let her keys on the wooden table close to the door. She removed her shoes, hanged her bag and coat.
It was oddly quite. "Anybody home?" she called.
Sans appeared behind her and closed her eyes.
She yelped at the sudden movement. "Easy now sweetheart, we have a surprise for you". His soft voice whispered in her ear. She felt his wame breath caressing her cheek and ear.
Fudgie took some breathes to calm down her raising heartbeat.
Sans's phalanges were warm on her skin.
They felt a little rough. She knew what work these phalanges have done.
Sans guided her to the living room. "Don't open your eyes, wait for my signal" Sans masculine voice whispered in her ear.
She nodded, her heart beating fast.
.
.
Amalia and Sans took position.
"Now, sunlight. Open your eyes".
Fudgie opened her blue grey eyes. They shone like lakes when the sun hits the surface.
She saw the presents, they held in their arms.
Amalia was holding a beautiful box, shaped as a heart.
Sans was holding a small black box and a bouquet of blue cornflowers.
He offered the bouquet, his face blushing pink, reddish. Her eyes shone like stars.
He looked at the floor and caressed the back of his skull. He blushed harder when she made that face.
He carefully handed her the box. She opened the box and saw a magnificent necklace with gemstones (amethyst, green fluorite, blue tanzanite, ruby, diamond and many more) .
Her eyes sparkled. She kept staring. She was mesmerized.
Amalia came next to Sans, with her gift as well.
Amalia stretched her hands offering her gift to her.
Fudgie opened Amalia's gift and noticed the cans of condensed milk, tea, a card and a green scarf; similar to Amalia's pink one.
Fudgie smiled. Her smile was stretched from one ear to the other.
They hugged each other.
Fudgie thanked them.
.
.
Sans brought the cake. Fudgie blew the candles and sliced the cake.
.
.
They sat down to eat. There were spinach pie, cheese pie, small hot dogs and many more delicious goodies.
Fudgie tried it and with the corner of her eye she noticed Amalia and Sans sinking in their seats.
Well Amalia had her face behind Sans's shoulder blade.
Sans was nervous but tried not to show it.
As Fudgie took a mouthful of the cake, the flavors exploded in her taste buds.
They watched as her pupil grew bigger.
Due to her blue / grey eyes, they could see when she loved something or someone; her pupil grew larger.
She loved it.
She could sense the right dose of chocolate, caramel, cream and condensed milk. It was delectable. She hummed in delight.
Amalia peeked from behind Sans's back.
"Do you like it?" Amalia asked in a small shy voice. She wanted to be sure.
Fudgie turned her blue eyes on her way, cheeks stuffed. Fudgie swallowed.
Fudgie's expression had softened when she saw Amalia's nervous expression.
Fudgie grinned "You made this?" she pointed at them.
They nodded.
She set her plate down. A soft smile on her face. She got up and went closed to them
She hugged them.
They hugged her back.
"Thank you guys, this was a pretty good try, I love it!"
They buried their faces on her shoulder.
Fudgie smelled nice; coconut and rose. Sunshine and flowers.
Her copper brown hair soft, like silk, brushed their faces.
Sans and Amalia grinned.
"Glad to hear that Fudgie!" Amalia's voice was muffled.
After some minutes, she let go of them.
Both enjoyed the cake while talking and watching the view from the window.
She sat in the middle. Sans leaned his head on her left shoulder. Amalia leaned hers on her right side.
They were happy!
.
.
The End 😘
Thank you for reading! 💙
I admit... I am not proud of this small fic... But still, I hope you enjoyed it a little bit! 💙 If not, it's okay! 💙 💚💚💚💚

ART! IVE DONE ART FINALLY! The opposite of Star Crossed Lovers is them, Star Torn Lovers? Sharing their feelings only under the dark moon in fear of persecution. Always crossing paths but still just out of reach. How sad
[Anthro piece of Mothwing and Leafpool from warrior cats, Moth on the left and Leaf on the right. At the bottom is a paw with the left side tinged red with inky blood on the claws and the other with faint stars and blue tinge. A large moon is above Leafpool and a Sun is above Mothwing. Between them is three stars layered on top of each other, the largest yellow, middle on blue, and inner one dark green which has been broken apart. Three diamond stars point towards Leafpool’s belly.
Mothwing is a yellow tabby with rosette spots and longer white claws she’s filed down, her eyes are a bright amber with a streak of icy blue and she’s looking back to Leaf. She wears a blue dress that has a ombré of yellow to orange on the bottom and sleeves. She has a belt across her mid section that’s leather. She has a pouch with a leaf pin holding it closed, a dark purple necklace falls down from it along with a piece of wisteria. Along with a knife holster with her brother’s knife which has a northern goshawk’s tail feather hanging off the hilt. Her left ear is torn in half breaking apart the moth shaped tuft on her ears along with three more scars on her cheek. On her head is a orangish gray bandanna to shield herself from the stars as a show to her not trusting them list most other clan cats. On her paw that’s holding Leafpool’s paw is a leaf bracelet.
Leafpool is a dark brown tabby with yellowish patches under her eye in a moon shape, fringe, and paws. She has very curly hair and folded ears that look like a heart with a fern like shape on the top half of it with a yellow patch. She is looking back to Moth with hazel eyes that are green and amber with a orangish pink heart nose. She wears a flowy green dress with lighter collar and wrist cuffs over it being a apron with a big pocket full of plants. The pocket has a stitched diamond over it. Inside the pocket is a few leaves, petals, burnet sprig, and yew branch along with similar leaves in her hair. At the corner of her apron is a stitched with a patch that has bramble tendrils with claws instead of thorns, being the sign she got for Brambleclaw to be deputy. Beside it under her pocket is the “Blood Will Spill Blood” patch that is a sunset over a red lake with blood dripping into it. Her last patch is of the Moonpool which she found showing the moon over the pool with stars reflected in its water along with leaves around the moon. On her paw is a bracelet with a moth wing on it.
The faint signature “Nightly-Ruse 2023” is near the bottom. End ID]

Tell us more about your slugcats!! How tall are they all and whats their favourite thing to do?
First of all, thanks for the ask Moth!! And now to answer your questions… (just for reference, the heights I’m giving are their full heights so thats when they are on their hind legs/standing)
The Acrobat: This slugcat is the oldest of the bunch, being the very first slugcat made by their creator. The Acrobat is male with black fur, white eyes, and green markings on his forelegs. This one is not particularly tall, being about average height for an adult slugcat (4’4/132 cm. Yes I hc scugs to be pretty big djsnfn). As for favorite thing to do? He likes to spend time with his creator, an iterator named Swims Against the Current (SATC). He also loves to travel and often goes on errands for his owner. (Built like a siberian husky)
The Warden: An older slugcat being the 18th created by SATC as a gift to his Junior and sister, an iterator called Flowers of Night (FON). This slugcat is also male with shaggy orange fur flecked with white spots and darker orange stripes along his face. He has golden eyes with a very stocky and muscular build. The Warden is unusually large for his species, being about 5’10/177 cm. His favorite thing to do is nap! Hes very lazy, however if someone or something threatens FON you better watch out cause he is a fierce fighter. He also likes to sunbathe and enjoys the smell of flowers. (Built like a rottweiler)
The Doppelgänger: Despite its small size, this slugcat is one of the older ones. The Doppelgänger is a female slugcat and the 22nd made by SATC. This slugcat is almost completely white with various patches of different colors that constantly shift and change. She has pretty green eyes. She is smaller than average being about 3’7/109 cm. Her favorite thing to do is explore new places and befriend all sorts of interesting creatures. She likes to imitate them too by changing her markings to match theirs. (Built like a mini australian shepherd)
The Necromancer: A very young slugcat and the last one created by SATC before his structure collapsed. The Necromancer is a female slugcat that is light grey in color with deep purple, almost black, eyes and a small blood-red diamond marking in the middle of her forehead. She is fairly tall for a slugcat standing at 4’9/144 cm. Her favorite thing to do is… well its would probably be using her abilities (bringing things back from the dead or verge of death). Whenever she’s too exhausted to do this, she likes to sit and look over the lake near one of the iterator cans in the area. (Built like a saluki)
The Stray: The youngest of the slugcats, just barely considered not a pup. This one is male and a dependent of The Doppelgänger. The Stray was not genetically engineered like the rest, but rather is a “natural” slugcat. He is very small even for his age being only about 2’6/76 cm. His favorite thing to do is explore new places. Ones he may never have been to before. He also enjoys the company of a hardly-functional iterator called Dying Breath. He worries for his friend, knowing theres not much time left for them. (Built like a… idk a medium-small mutt probably)
The Chieftain: This slugcat is my sona! She comes from a different area, and was created by an iterator named Rising Ardent Gaze (my other sona xD). Her fur is a deep ruby-red with a black cape pattern that covers the tips of her ears, back, and top of the tail. She has white-gold eyes and a small scar just beneath the chin. Shes quite short for a slugcat being about 3’10/116 cm and is quite self conscious about this. Her favorite thing to do is find and collect pearls!! She loves pearls so so much (do not touch her pearls she can and will maul you to death if you do. You can inly touch them if she needs help carrying all her pearls—). She likes going up to one of the iterator cans in the area and having one of them read the pearls to her. (100% beagle energy)

Mirage In The Desert - Chapter 12
Summary: Trapped in a cage, the Strawhat’s plan to confront Crocodile at Raindinners proceeds more poorly than they expected, and River is the nearest ally on the outside.
Rated Mature for language, graphic violence. Cross-posted to Ao3, same username. Send me a DM: yell at me, send flowers. Cheers.
~*~
The most comfort River had found at Raindinners was the saltwater swims.
And so, Crocodile stood on the shore, bored eyes watching him cling to the rocks with trembling, bleeding fingers. The Oasin’s breath came in labored, frightened puffs as he struggled to free himself from wani-infested waters.
“I knew I would find you here.”
But Crocodile wasn’t the cause of his distress, and River hauls himself to safety with one more good pull.
Water runs off him in sheets, down unsteady legs until he finds his footing. “I don’t try to hide, you know.”
“Oh, you do. But I can hardly blame you,” Crocodile said, stopping to study where River nursed his wounded hands, the scratches across his knuckles that colored the water dripping down his arms pink.
“Did the wani do that?”
“It was my fault. I was careless and fell in… I can hardly blame them.”
“Would you like me to administer first aid?”
River snorted, even as Crocodile watched him consider it, with a wet sheen over his tired eyes. Must be the saltwater. “I’ll be fine. Thank you. Though, I don’t recall asking you to join me,” he said with less bite than he hoped.
Although they were doomed to pretend to be business partners, Crocodile found himself wandering to stand by the water’s edge almost every day. To watch if he could get away with it, be close to him, even when his natural habitat kept them apart. With all the ease that the Oasin played the “shiny jewel of the desert”, charming and mild-mannered, buttoned-up in diamonds and finery, it was easy to forget that he belonged to the sea. Now, with salt on his eyelashes and sun beams in the width of his shoulders, the great lake felt too much like a bottomless ocean between them.
“Hm.” Crocodile contemplated the verbal rejection, and reached into his coat pocket for a plain, ribbon-bound box.
“I’ll leave your present here then. Don’t let the wani eat it.”
He made no move to accept, and waited until the door to the casino firmly latched shut to swim over, only his eyes out of the water to glare at the offending gift.
The blue box and white ribbon mocked him in it’s simplicity, a perfect copy of the box that cradled his surrendered earrings all those months ago. The first peace offering between them. And here was another.
He pulled the ribbon free by one of it’s tails, careful not to let it slip into the water, and removed the lid. ____ ___ __ _
11:30 AM, Operation Day.
For four of the Strawhats, bad luck could only take so much credit for their swift defeat in their front-door assault on Raindinners, having been bested by a hastily written “Pirates this way” sign and gravity. Consequently, Smoker’s foiled pursuit down to the same seastone cage was just bad timing and worse luck.
Imprisonment usually breeds allies, but apparently no amount of cohabitation could keep them from hissing at each other, and when Crocodile and River come to see what sprung their trap, Smoker has the pirate captain pinned by pressing his jute to his back.
“Since you’re going to die together, you can at least attempt to get along,” Crocodile says while taking a seat at the long table in the center of the room.
”Crocodile! I’ll kick your ass when I get out of—here.” Luffy’s threat dies on a breath, and he slips to the floor when he’s unable to hold onto the cage.
“Stop touching the bars! Weren’t you paying attention?!” Usopp yells at him.
“Spirited, aren’t they? The most powerful little pirate gang in the East Blue,” River takes his spot at Crocodile’s side.
Smoker adjusted his grip on his jute and pointed it through the bars. “Crocodile. You look every bit as despicable as I imagined… But your associate—”
He points the tip at River. “I don’t recognize you.”
“You wouldn’t,” River said, simply, and leaned down to light his cigarette from Crocodile’s outstretched hand. “Mr. Marine.”
“My favorite weapon: a well-kept secret to all of your people’s supposed intelligence, Smoker. Isn’t he magnificent?” Crocodile brushed a finger through his hanging earrings, and River blew smoke from his nose as he stepped away to approach the cage.
The sight of the young pirates locked up like animals twisted his stomach, it never more apparent that these were just kids. Frightened, only strong enough to refuse to cower. As dangerous as they supposedly were, whatever battles or villains they boasted, he couldn’t let them die here, so far from home, for the ambitions of a cruel man who saw them as little more than obstacles to be broken.
“This is who the Princess hired to help her? She would have been better off hiring the marine.” He took another drag and met Luffy’s eyes from where he sat on the ground.
You’ll only get one chance, Monkey D. Luffy.
“And they couldn’t even protect her. She and Miss All Sunday should already be on their way.” Crocodile said and gestured for River to sit beside him. No sense letting lunch grow cold while they waited.
“I knew it was a mistake to trust him,” Usopp whispered to them all.
‘No’, Luffy and Smoker were surprised they both spoke at once.
“He has a plan.” Zoro said.
They only had to wait a few minutes, long enough for River and Crocodile to both have a glass of wine when the Princess announced her presence.
“Crocodile!” She yelled, not wasting a moment to fly down the steps to try to catch the warlord off guard.
But River vaulted over the table faster than she could take aim, and her peacock blade shattered in his fist, sending fragments of metal and turquoise all over the floor.
“Your rage leaves little room for critical thinking, Princess.” Crocodile sipped his wine while River made easy work of tying her to one of the carved chairs with his own scarf.
“Too tight?” He asked her, but only risked getting a headbutt in response as she thrashed.
“I wish you had never come to this country at all! But I’ll amend that today, and finally kill you.” The chair scraped and tapped the floor with her struggling.
“Not like that, you won’t. Relax, the party is just beginning. Yes?” Crocodile looked to River and Miss All Sunday, who had appeared behind the furious Vivi.
She looked at her watch. “Yes, Sir. It’s noon, and Operation Utopia has officially begun.”
“What is—,” Crocodile held up his hand to hush the frightened murmurs and questions of the prisoners while they reeled.
“Perpetually late and always wrong, Princess. I never wanted to conquer this country—I wanted to wipe it from the face of the earth. And over a decade in the making, it won’t even be me. You’ll destroy yourselves, won’t you? Precious rebels and a worthless king are more volatile than gunpowder in this heat.”
“… You’re going to kill my father? What point does that serve?!” Vivi screeched and continued to yank at her bonds.
“You’re still. Not. Thinking.” He tapped his cigar in the ash tray. Tap. Tap. “Why would I kill him? He’ll suffer a fate worse than death. The king is going to fire the first shot.” ____ ___ __ _
Across the country in Nanohana, Koza and his black horse raced through the streets towards the center of the city.
Why now? Why would the king choose now, of all days, to speak to the people?
When his men brought him news that the king and a number of his troops were requesting an audience, he hadn’t known what to expect. Would it be a declaration of war? After all these months? Or a public claim of his innocence?
And he wanted to believe it didn’t matter. That it wouldn’t heal some part of him for the king to admit his wrongdoing and pledge to fix it. To say he still cared for his people, the way Koza remembered him.
Regarding unfinished business, Aurelio had arrived to the rebel camp before dawn, as planned, though he found there was little to do to sway the leader’s mind after the news that Cobra marched on Nanohana.
“You came all the way from the New World for little to nothing,” Koza had said as he yanked the straps tight on his saddle.
“Your letter came late, nearly illegible. If Dragon was any less of a suspicious man, he would have sent no one at all,” Aurelio said.
“So he sends a SINGLE scout, weeks late, and when we no longer have time to wait for reinforcements?” He gets into the older man’s space, nose to nose, close enough to realize he had stepped inside an imperceptible barrier. Too close, suffocating, now unable to back out—trapped until the other man said his peace.
“Do not let the fact that I am alone make you believe I cannot help you.” He said each word slowly, measured by syllable as proof of restraint, and Koza finally took a step back to breathe.
He looked to the sky to check the time, and an owl’s silhouette broke the sun. “Fine. Wait for my orders. We don’t have enough weapons, you can start by helping to arm the rest.”
Aurelio nodded.
The moment Koza’s dark horse disappeared down the road, the dissent among the troops was clear. “So why were the Oasins armed before us? They’ve only been here a few months.”
“Yeah, we’ve been here for almost a year and were never given a weapon.”
“Will that stop you from protecting yourself?” Aurelio said, beside them. “When you are afraid for your life, the safety of your families, even your bare hands will serve you. But if you insist on a crutch—”
He reached to the building that housed their troops and ripped a board from its wall with a swift yank, tossing the splintered wood at the soldier’s feet. “There. A weapon.”
By the time Koza made it to the center of the city, the king had already begun to speak. A man he hardly recognized stood before the crowd, no longer a king, but a tyrant that declared this city was the last piece of evidence to his deception against the rest of the country. And that they could no longer pretend to be useful to him.
So when he felt the bullet pierce his body, the air gone from his lungs and taking his spirited shout, he believed it to be justified. That the man he remembered was gone, and the rest of his home would soon follow. Should follow? They had little choice.
“Let’s finally destroy this country.” He said to the rebel that held him.
“Sir? What are you saying? Leader! Wake up!” They shook him but no response. His order’s were clear.
Aurelio arrived with the rest of their troops to carry out his wishes, though the borrowed revolutionary held no motives to obey, except to minimize civilian causalities. For all his sympathies, he had little patience to allow the rage of a betrayed nation, except to protect them from each other.
Smoke rose to the sky with the popping of gunshots, and the cracking of heat-weakened walls as rebels and the king’s men clashed in the streets.
“Watch out! Get away!” He heard clearer than the rest of the frightened howling, and looked to the sky to see a ship breaching the shore, skipping the harbor to fly towards the populated city center.
“Shit—” He ripped away from the civilians in his arms, shoved them towards the nearest intact building before taking off for the ship in a series of staccato blinks.
“Where is he going?!”
“Not that way!” They yelled after him.
On the deck, Miss Double-finger and Mr. 1 saw a tiny dot charge into their path.
“Impossible.”
“Is that—”
CRACK. The bang of the ship colliding with what felt like an invisible wall knocked the agents off their feet, deafening to the civilians that watched horrified as they saw the bow met by a—by—
“A man?!” They shouted, unable to look away.
His palms extended, he braced himself between the bow and the sandy street, his teeth gnashed and wide back ready to burst under the force of the ship pushing him back, burying his steel legs into the ground to carve their path. But he wouldn’t go down.
He didn’t stop the ship, no more than slow it down, but just one life spared was enough.
And he never went down.
The civilians that found him, buried under the shredded bow of the ship, ripped open under his reinforced hands like an eviscerated beast, found him alive. They pulled him from the splintered wood and broken ground, letting their tears patter on his face when they couldn’t wait for him to open his eyes to tell him he saved them.
And Koza, as he watched Aurelio awake with a gasp, coughing up powdered stone, wanted to tell him he was sorry.
“They really did send help.” ____ ___ __ _
Down in the bunker and forced to listen, Vivi found no more strength to struggle. “You’re a monster. Worse than that, pure evil.”
Luffy, despite the effort being moot, continued to gnaw at the bars of the cage, spurred on by hearing the warlord’s plan laid out in it’s meticulous and cruel entirety.
“Is he stupid?” River said with a raised eyebrow and another drag off his cigarette.
“Yeah. Yeah, he is,” Zoro said, smiling.
“And what about Oasis?” Vivi shouted when her fight returned, spitefully pleased when River turned to scowl at her.
“Why are you doing this, Mr. i? Oasis will fall without Alabasta. What do you hope to gain?”
“Never—,” he said, firmly, as he stubbed out his cigarette. “Presume to know anything about my motivations. Oasis existed when this island was nothing but warring states, and when it nearly killed itself to produce a king, WE survived. My island will go on with or without you, and I will do anything to ensure they survive.”
And it wasn’t a lie. He would do anything to protect his people. Oasis would go on with or without Alabasta. But he left unsaid that Oasis gave up their favorite son all those centuries ago, and would continue to give. Seth, the Hunter of the Ennead’s first General, left behind his family and father to fight beside the mainlanders to unite the island and help them find their peace.
He wouldn’t survive to see the monarchy that rose, or watch his children grow tall. It would be the duty of his descendants, on the eve of another war, to remind Oasis of their duty to the mainland, and that their “survival”, a hollow, fragmented existence, was the only guarantee as long as they continued to pretend Alabasta and Oasis were ever enemies.
Beside River, Miss All Sunday answered her snail phone. “Mr. 0, the Billions are ready to move on to Alubarna.”
“And we will follow. Princess, you have one more choice to make. Come with us, try to save your country and your father. Or stay, and save four pirates.”
He held up a golden key to twinkle in the lights, and all eyes in the cage leaned forward to watch it wave back and forth.
On queue, River cut the Princess free of her bonds, and her anger turned to momentum, lunging for the key, chasing it out of Crocodile’s grip and down to the floor. Never let it be said that Crocodile didn’t use every advantage at his disposal, and the key was out of her grip with just a tap of his heel to open a single floor tile. Down it went, to another room.
“You can still get it. Better hurry,” Crocodile watched her contemplate jumping until Bananawani began to fill the hole, believing the chute brought food. They hissed, searching and irritated to find none, and River heard the mechanical whirl of the lift winding itself up.
Not part of the plan.
“You said you would flood the basement, drown them,” River said, gesturing to the cage of pirates.
“And I didn’t lie. The princess needs a little motivation to decide quickly. And besides, once the water flooded in, pushed these stone walls to the point of breaking, what did you think would happen?”
From where Crocodile and Miss All Sunday walked to evacuate at their leisure, he waited only a short minute before calling over his shoulder. “Are you coming?”
“I—” River looked to Vivi as she crouched beside the chute, hot tears on her face. The Strawhats clamored for height as the water rose to their ankles and climbed. They looked back at him.
Didn’t you promise to help us?
“I’ll be right behind you. I... haven’t seen Coco in days, I want to make sure he eats.”
“You’re unbelievable. Don’t take too long.” Crocodile rolled his eyes and left River with a wave.
When he was sure they had walked out of earshot, the sound of the secondary lift confirming they had gone, he ran back to the hostages.
Vivi screamed into the mouth of the wani that arrived on the lift, and River’s boot came down hard on the sensitive skin of their snout. Their head whipped back, too far not to hurt, and the massive animal flopped over to retreat. On land, the wani were easy with the right amount of power, but when the chamber finally flooded, they would all be lucky to drown first.
“You took too long!” Vivi cried at him.
“Oh, I’m sorry, I’ll let you do it next time!” River snapped at her, wading through the water to the cage.
“But what are we going to do? He threw the key in with the wani!” Nami said.
“There is no key! Don’t you get it? That key wouldn’t free you… It’s not fun for him unless you have hope.” River said, and Nami’s cheeks colored, embarrassed, as she watched him examine the lock.
Well, he decided, to just smash it was easier and quicker. He reinforced his fist and brought it down on both the lock and the hinge.
“Come on, faster, the bananas are getting—closerr.” Luffy scrabbled at the bars before melting into the water at his feet.
“Stop touching the cage!” Usopp yelled.
“So this was your plan all along,” came Crocodile’s low voice as it raked up all their spines like the tip of a sharp, poisoned hook.
River looked to him, fist primed to finish breaking the lock. “Not all along. Just after I knew I had found someone who could defeat you.”
“Does your partner know?”
“No. I mean, they must have some idea that I was planning something but I’ve never shared my intentions with them. They have never helped me.”
“And you wouldn’t lie about that. Not so well, at least.”
The damaged lock rattled in his shaking hands. “These kids are leaving here, Crocodile. I will free them.”
There’s a heavy beat of silence as the flooding chamber roars. Long enough for both of them to pick fight or flight, live or die, and decide if they could shoulder the consequences: the reality that only one of them would leave here.
“Fine. You are free to betray me. Just as I am free to be rid of you.”
River pounded his fist against the lock one more time and it snapped inward, letting the door fall open on it’s bent hinge.
“Get rid of me then!” He shook out one arm to grab his swords. “You have to kill me… But I only have to slow you down.”
“You—”
“Sorry I’m late! Vivi, my sweet! Nami, my world!”
Crocodile looked to the familiar voice to see a blonde in a suit, the same man who had called as he made ground and informed him of the second (successful) siege on the casino. He had entered the basement believing to find him, not his River.
“Get them out of here! Go!” River yelled to him, and Crocodile found it hard to comprehend any thought beyond the absurdity of Mr. Prince kicking back the Bananawani to further aid the hostages—on his River’s order.
CLANG. His hook rattled with the strike of a silver sword, and sand twisted up around them as they bared their teeth at each other.
“Don’t look away from me,” River ground out, demanded as he let loose swipe after swipe that Crocodile was forced to parry and dodge, or be cut by the blades that shone with a lapis blue coating.
A single arc of his sand, sharp and stinging, was enough to switch their roles as River stumbled back and back again. Though he was nimble, he was unused to fighting logia users that moved even quicker than he did. Crocodile quickly overpowered him, his body so much more than his human form as it whipped around them in millions of tiny granules that stung in microscopic wounds.
“He’s going to kill him, we have to go back!” Vivi yelled to her friends, but the collapsing walls of the bunker overpowered her voice with rushing water and crumbling stone.
A whip of sand shot out to drag River back into his striking range but was blocked by two crossed swords. Crocodile wanted to scream at him, berate him, demand he act like he was ready to kill him too.
But if River was going to see those kids get free, he just needed to survive a little longer.
“You don’t have to die here.” Crocodile’s growl rattles his chest, begging him—a threat that he hadn’t heard himself make in at least a decade. To want something so badly, that he would forgive almost anything.
“If living means I stand by your side as a prince to a savaged country, I have no other choice.”
Crocodile fist aches, he thinks his fingers might break as he stands under a wave of memories, of the crushing weight of never again, and the goodbye they weren’t strong enough to say out loud.
“No… You would have been a king.”
The air crackles, too thick to swallow, and River knows something has changed with the sudden dizzying force of Crocodile’s blows, one after another, uncaring of how River’s swords sting and bruise.
He holds up his arms to defend himself, all of his haki loaded to his front to prevent from being run clean through, and the connecting wave of sand that hits him slams his brain against his skull as it throws him across the room.
The floor passes his vision but he never lands, still falling, too far down, and into the feeding pit.
Water floods the room as the last wall gives, breaking the cage into pieces and forcing the Strawhats to flee, whether by water or up the stairs. The fight is over for now, and Crocodile is already leaving the way he came.
“No… NO!” Vivi screamed as Sanji put his arm around her waist to drag her away, harder than he meant to, and with apologies neither could really hear beyond her cries and the roar of the water rushing in to drown the bunker entirely.
From where Miss All Sunday watched the destruction from the safety of the street, the answer to her question came in the absolutely lost gaze of the warlord when he materialized on the city side of the bridge.
He swayed when his legs took his weight, his eyes unseeing while they stared fixed at… somewhere else. If he had orders, he didn’t say them out loud, and was back to sand before she could ask, off to Alubarna to turn his grief into results.
Robin looked to the lake, the commotion all but gone from her ears.
So you did it. The princess and the pirates are off to finish this.
Thank you, River. For all your hard work. ____ ___ __ _
“I don’t recall asking you to join me,” River said.
“Hm.” Crocodile contemplated the verbal rejection, and reached into his coat pocket for a plain, ribbon-bound box.
“I’ll leave your present here then. Don’t let the wani eat it.”
River pulled the ribbon free by one of it’s tails, careful not to let it slip into the water, and removed the lid.
It only took seconds for him to rush inside, passed the startled staff, down to Crocodile’s suite, uncaring of the water he trekked inside on bare feet and his soaked clothes, onto everything he touched from the dripping ends of his hair.
The thump of a book closing, leather-soled loafers suddenly on the floor, lead him down the hall to the parlor where they first danced together.
“River?” He called to him, perfectly still as he watched him stand in the doorway, soaked with a wild, aching stare.
River had never crossed the room in so few steps, leaping into ready arms that welcomed him to take, to soak his clothes through while he spoke his woes into his cheek.
“Why would you give me that? Why can’t you just...” He smothered his wet eyes in Crocodile’s shirt collar. The cool nose against his hair, paired with a gentle kiss, shushed him and stilled his shakes.
“4 days, River.”
Until the curtain falls.
“4… days,” he repeated, slowly.
He gripped his shirt until his nails ached, and Crocodile’s hand came up to cup his chin. But rather than ask for a kiss, he pressed his lips to his forehead. At least River wouldn’t see the way agony twisted his frown.
“Don’t kiss me. I can’t bear it,” River said into the warm air between their faces, though his arms were steel, unwilling to let go.
“Because you hate me?”
Crocodile met his wilting gaze, counting the seawater drops on his lashes and admiring the drip of his wet bangs onto his cheeks. It was as close to the ocean as he would ever know again, to swim in the eyes of his last love, the one that never refused to kiss him, even when he was outed as a weak man.
“Because I can never hate you.”
He doesn’t realize he’s holding his breath until River kisses him, and his good hand aches as he threads his fingers into wet hair. They both give easily under the weight of weeks without so much as a brush of their hands. River tastes the sorrow on his tongue, coffee on his breath, and wondered if to Crocodile, he tasted like “thank you”.
He knows Crocodile must feel it between them, safe in his pocket: his gift.
A single feather from a kingfisher bird, it’s silk hairs split between lapis blue and the orange-pink of a well-worn sunset.
A promise that in 4 days, he was free.
Whether they stood together or on opposite sides of the battlefield at Alubarna, even if their feelings were the only piece of them that survived the ravage of an ailing, prostrated nation. And in the embrace of one another, so close to goodbye, River could admit he mourned them, and Crocodile could admit he mourned himself.
That he wasn’t the kind of man anymore to change for something soft like love. Or for anyone.
That they weren’t lovers from a storybook, who might abandon everything and run off to an island where no one knew their names.
“Thank you, River,” he said against warm lips.
“For what?”
For reminding me I’m capable of love. Even if it wasn’t enough.
“For letting me touch the ocean again.”
River’s tears run silently down his cheeks to his lips, kissed away in gentle presses. A taste of the ocean.
“Thank you, Crocodile.” His breath stuttered, caught on tobacco and golden eyes. “For being kind to me.”
It was as close to goodbye as they could be. Not when they would see each other tomorrow, and the next day. Whether they died or lived to become enemies, they would never be strangers again, and River knew he would never be able to meet him, months later, years later, without remembering fennel toothpaste and a warm arm around his waist, swaying them to the beat of a band. ____ ___ __ _
Above ground, the fighting subsided at Raindinners, and Smoker found himself hauled from the saltwater lake by the second of the Strawhats, to the chagrin of his pride and the gratitude of his pounding heart. Zoro tensed beside him when he opened his stinging eyes, wondering if they would have a fight after all.
“… Go,” Smoker commanded with a rasp of his weak throat. “Before I change my mind.”
But Zoro just stared at him, too disbelieving to move until Nami called to him.
“Zoro, we need to go!”
He watched the kids retreat, and the surface of the water rippled with the stirring of the wani. A geyser of saltwater shot up towards the sky, soaking the marine again as he snatched his jute from his back.
But the wani that reared itself from the lake, gigantic body breaking the midday sun into streaks, made no move to attack him. It clung to the concrete edge, claws dug in like rail spikes, merely hissed at him.
Beside the wani’s enormous paw lay a body splayed on their back, long black hair tossed around them like seaweed and deadly still except a dribble of foam that slipped down his cheek from his lips.
“Mr. i—” SHIK. His movement towards River was cut off by a swipe of the wani’s vitiligo-white paw, and a roar from their speckled mouth.
“Stop that,” he snapped. “If no one helps him, he’s going to die. You big, banana—”
“Captain Smoker!” Tashigi’s shout interrupted him. She ran to his side with her own blade sheathed, hands reaching for his jute.
“Captain, put your weapon away! Please, Bananawani are highly territorial. You risk them taking the man back under the water if they’re frightened enough.”
She reached into her back pocket and pulled out a pamphlet to show him. “I picked this up when we made land, it seemed important to brush up on all potential threats.”
Smoke puffed from his mouth as he read. “A Wayfarers Guide to Safety Protocol for A. Bananawani, by River Faustina. It’s for tourists.”
“It says their noses are sensitive, and that they like coconuts.”
“I don’t have any coconuts,” Smoker said with a growl, and gripped his jute again.
“Will you put that thing down?! I mean, sir!” Tashigi snatched the pamphlet back and held her hands up to the beast.
“That man needs medical attention, mister—misses—wani… I’m going to take him. There’s a coconut in it for you. Two coconuts if you’re lucky.”
“Why do you have coconuts?” Smoker grumbled, feeling a headache coming on.
“Potential threats, sir. How about it, wani? A crunchy coco—” She flinched when the wani hissed, all of it’s white teeth on display.
“HIYA!” She gave a war cry and rocketed the coconuts into the wani’s open mouth, hard enough to bounce off their uvula and knock them back into the lake.
Smoker dashed forward on white plumes, scooping up River’s limp body to carry him a safe distance from the water’s edge. He pressed a glove hand to his neck, worried when such a hard jostle didn’t wake him.
“Tashigi! Find a doctor!” ____ ___ __ _
He had always been a talented swimmer.
But when River found himself airborne, sent flying by a wall of compacted sand that bruised his arms and scratched his face, the crack of the water against his back sent all the air in his lungs rushing out in violent bubbles. Foam made for pitiful last words.
Hungry wani blacked out the light that shone down the shoot, and his body whipped around, back and forth with the water that was churned up from the wani biting at one another to lay claim over their unexpected snack. Stray claws nicked his skin, and a white muzzle clamping down on the neck of another wani left him blind in the suddenly red water.
But beneath the impossible pressure of the water in his ears, his lungs trading air for bloody bubbles, he heard that voice.
You are free to betray me. Just as I am free to be rid of you.
He pawed at the water, continuing struggle even as he tasted salty copper and only found stars behind his eyelids. His own voice responded.
For months, I prepared myself to die. I found danger, told my friends everything would be fine, and thought of nothing but you. That if I left only one person free of you, it was enough.
But to leave Claudia with nothing to bury, that I will not forgive.
Despite his efforts, his spilled blood and broken heart, River would be gone before he could feel the giant tooth that hooked onto his belt loop, lifting him to the surface and dropping him on the ground from a deceptively gentle, albeit hissing mouth.
He never felt the marine captain compressing his chest for long minutes, from the time he sent the lieutenant away to the moment she returned. He never felt his chest lurch to spew the water from his lungs in foam onto the street.
And when his eyes finally peeled open, he was staring up at the gilded, peeling ceiling of a hotel suite with overly-starched linens beneath his aching, naked back.
“You’re finally awake,” came a rumble of a voice beside his bed. The white-haired marine from the cage sat in a chair as fashionable but old as the rest of the room with official looking documents in his hands, carefully folded to prevent any peeking.
“What—” River’s voice came out a croak, weak and stinging from his near-drowning.
“Where are the kids?” He managed after a few swallows.
One of Smoker’s eyebrows shot up, surely the marine expected his first question to be different. He took in the hollows under his striking eyes, hair still damp and tangled around his shoulders, desperate hands gripped tight in the patched sheets.
“I’ll ask the questions, Mr. i.”
“No,” he ground out, his voice threatening to break under such sudden demands.
“No, where are those kids? Are they alive? Where is—,” a wet cough cut him off, “Where is that bastard Crocodile?”
“Are you going to fight him in your condition? The Strawhats are fine, they’ve gone to fight him in Alubarna. And I’m here with questions for one of his officers.”
River laid back, and the air slipped easily from his lungs with the knowledge of their safe escape. “Thank goodness… What’s your name, Mr. Marine?”
He felt a blush come to his face unbidden at the relaxed and patient gaze of the wounded man that was pillowed among his hair. “You can call me Captain Smoker. Your full name?”
“My name is River Joel Faustina, Mr. Smoker.”
“Captain—”
“Captain.” He smiled, wetting his cracked lips with his tongue to ensure his next words didn’t stutter.
“In my room, suite 309, there’s a suitcase under the bed. Please take it.”
“What’s in it?” Smoker regarded him with his usual hard-boiled suspicion.
“Evidence. There’s shipment manifests, financial statements, transcribed conversations and audio tapes.”
“Most people think to bargain with their evidence beforehand. What do you want for it?”
He wets his lips again, refusing to look away. “Nothing.”
“Everyone wants something. And while I’m not above sending you to Impel Down for your crimes alone…”
He smoked quietly for a moment, pondering the man who seemed downright gentle while he lay wounded, despite all he was accused. Who breathed a sigh of relief that the young pirates were not only safe but well enough to continue the fight. It knotted his stomach, the possibility that he was arresting a—not innocent—but coerced man, who would be killed in Impel Down if things went forward as they were. And yet, River refused to speak.
“… You have my ear, Mr. Faustina. Make a case for yourself right now, and we can propose a lesser sentence—”
Putter, putter, putter. The ringing of a snail phone interrupted him. Far away, presumably left in the pocket of his soaked coat when he hung it up in the other room.
“Don’t move,” he pointed a stern finger, and stood to answer the call.
“Where am I going to go, Mr. Smoker?” River gave a tired smile, a wet cough.
He left only long enough to fetch the snail, still ringing when he came back to find the bed empty and hear the shouts of his marines outside.
He yelled out the window. “Don’t kill him! That’s my witness!”
River outran them, no great feat with the statistically measured aim of the average marine, but it was enough to flee. The regrouping marines were still too scattered to catch him, and he was too desperate to care that he fled unarmed, half-dressed and barefooted.
He had to get to Alubarna. Crocodile was going to be defeated.
And he needed to see it.
