Someone asked for a non-USA specific one so I'll try my best, but if anyone has things to ad please do
- if you live anywhere with a large Indian population, hindu mandirs and sikh gurudwaras offer "langar" regularly (free food) and dont deny anyone a meal.
- ashrams and dharamshalas both offer places to sleep. traditionally for free but even if they charge it should be cheap (unless it's one of the tourist trap ones in which case ignore them)
- fruit trees are a food source. and they grow wild in many parts of the world. keep track of the fruit trees in your area. there's unlikely to be anything poisonous growing in an urban environment. in rural areas be more careful.
- in rural areas, seasonal farm jobs are common and so is labor migration. if you're there early in the season and are physically able, you can get a seasonal job. sometimes they offer temporary accommodation so that you're close to the land.
- if you're in an area that does clothing manufacturing, knowing how to use a sewing machine can get you a factory job. there isn't a lot of skill required for mass clothing production.
- any and all community pool areas have a shower. membership varies across countries.
- if you're near a college campus there might be free food days organized by various organizations. check out the bulletin boards.
- check for government schemes in your area. not just for housing, but for medical insurance, food, education, etc. every country has something, if you ask around you will find it.
- if youre not homeless yet, try to find solutions before you reach that point. if you can't afford rent anymore, start looking for food drives, community kitchens, or government ration orgrams. government schemes to subsidize gas and electricity payments exist. make use of them.
- if you're fleeing an abusive situation, use your local resources. many places for women and children helplines. they can guide you on how to go about it. contact your friends and family even if you haven't in a long time. they will want to help you. reach out to shelters specific to your situation. they can offer assistance.
- if you have friends and family who might help, ask for help. if there was ever a time, it's now. it might feel embarrassing, but your wellbeing should always outrank your shame.
What to do if you suddenly find yourself homeless
FOOD
Find your nearest food bank or mission, for food
grocery stores with free samples, bakeries + stores with day-old bread
different fast food outlets have cheaper food and will generally let you hang out for a while.
some dollar stores carry food like cans of beans or fruit
SHELTER
Sleeping at beaches during the day is a good way to avoid suspicion and harassment
sleep with your bag strapped to you, so someone can’t steal it
Some churches offer short term residence
Find your nearest homeless shelter
Look for places that are open to the public
A large dumpster near a wall can often be moved so that flipping up the lids creates an angled shelter to stay dry
HYGIENE
A membership to the YMCA is usually only 10$, which has a shower, and sometimes laundry machines and lockers.
Public libraries have bathrooms you can use
Dollar stores carry low-end soaps and deodorant etc.
Wet wipes are all purpose and a life saver
Local beaches, go for a quick swim
Some truck stops have showers you can pay for
Staying clean is the best way to prevent disease, and potentially get a job to get back on your feet
Pack 7 pairs of socks/undies, 2 outfits, and one hooded rain jacket
OTHER
first aid kit
sunscreen
a travel alarm clock or watch
mylar emergency blanket
a backpack is a must
downgrade your cellphone to a pay as you go with top-up cards
sleeping bag
travel kit of toothbrush, hair brush/comb, mirror
swiss army knife
can opener
#resources#homeless#homelessness#not sure how helpful my additions will be#but if yall have something to add please do#and point out where im wrong if im wring somewhere

Green Campuses for 100+ Green Futures
The Government Senior Secondary School in Khanyara, Dharamshala is a wonderful example of the power that enhancing infrastructure has on behavior change. It is not just an ordinary school which provides students with textbook-education. It has taken the role of empowering its students with the right resources towards participating in responsible waste management.
It is the responsibility of the school and parents to educate the students on the importance of not littering. However, the assistance of external stakeholders like Waste Warriors and our expertise is essential to accelerate the learning process. In partnership with Waste Warriors, the Government Senior Secondary School has implemented the installation of dry waste gullaks, bins, and leaf composting pits. The new waste disposal system is teaching the students the valuable skill of waste segregation.
To facilitate effective waste management, gullaks were set up in four schools of Dharamshala. These special bins with proper labeling and information enable segregated waste disposal. These bins have also significantly reduced single-use plastic waste. Glasses, quarter plates, serving trays, water campers, and jugs were also introduced to instill the values of reusing and reducing. Beyond this, a leaf composting unit and pit composting instill a green ethos, fostering environmental responsibility early in kids. Through these initiatives, Waste Warriors instills practical waste management practices while cultivating a culture of environmental stewardship from a young age, nurturing a generation of eco-conscious citizens poised to make a lasting impact on the world around them.
One student remarked: “Our school got these cool dustbins from Didis and Bhaiyas of Waste Warriors. Every time I have a piece of trash, even something as small as a toffee wrapper, I ensure it ends up in the right bin. When my friends forget, I remind them. It’s like a little game for me, matching the trash with the bin,” Janav Kashyap, Class 7th.
This demonstrates the lasting effect that infrastructure creation can have on behavioral change. By enhancing school waste management systems, Waste Warriors is reshaping attitudes toward waste management for the upcoming generation.
At Waste Warriors, we believe that educational institutions play a crucial role in shaping environmentally responsible citizens. Our Green Campuses initiative is more than just about waste disposal—it’s about instilling long-term sustainability habits in students, faculty, and staff. By implementing effective waste management solutions, we create cleaner, greener learning environments that serve as models for broader societal change. Schools and colleges that adopt sustainable waste practices not only reduce their ecological footprint but also inspire future generations to take proactive steps in addressing climate change.
Plastic pollution is a growing threat to both urban and rural communities, and educational institutions generate a significant amount of plastic waste daily. Waste Warriors promotes plastic recycling programs within campuses, ensuring that plastic waste is properly sorted, collected, and repurposed instead of ending up in landfills or waterways. Through awareness campaigns and hands-on activities, students and staff learn the importance of reducing single-use plastics and embracing sustainable alternatives. These initiatives help create a culture of responsibility, where every individual understands their role in protecting the environment.
The fight against climate change starts with local action, and green campuses serve as powerful catalysts for larger environmental movements. Waste Warriors integrates waste management solutions with climate education, helping institutions understand the link between waste reduction and lowering carbon emissions. By composting organic waste, minimizing landfill dependency, and promoting circular economy principles, we enable campuses to take meaningful steps in reducing their overall environmental impact. When students see the direct results of sustainable practices, they become more motivated to advocate for climate action beyond their campus walls.
Beyond environmental benefits, green campuses also drive significant social impact by engaging students, faculty, and local communities in sustainability efforts. Waste Warriors collaborates with educational institutions to organize clean-up drives, workshops, and recycling initiatives that foster a sense of collective responsibility. By making sustainability a core part of campus life, we empower young minds to become environmental leaders who will champion waste management solutions in their future careers and communities. Together, we can build 100 green campuses that not only promote sustainability within their boundaries but also serve as inspiration for a greener and more sustainable world.

GST ON DHARAMSHALA

According to Hindu usage of GST on dharamshala, which are traditional rest houses typically associated with religious and charitable trusts, several factors come into play.
Firstly, all entities that provide charitable activities must be registered under Section 12AA of the Income Tax Act.
All services related to charitable activities by the entities.
Who can run the dharamshala?
Religious organizations like temples, churches, mosques, gurudwaras, etc.
Religious Trusts
Charitable Trusts
Non-Government Organizations (NGOs)
Caste-based or community-based organizations
State governments and local bodies
Private Trusts and Foundations
There are multiple laws that are applicable to dharamshalas for operations.
Registration and legal status
Trusts and Societies Acts:
Many dharamshalas are operated by religious or charitable trusts or societies. They must be registered under the relevant state or national laws governing trusts and societies, such as:
Trusts and Societies Act, 1882
Society Registration Act, 1860
√Taxations Laws:
Goods and Services Act: The GST Act governs the taxation of goods and services provided by dharamshalas. They must comply with GST regulations if their annual turnover exceeds the threshold limits or if they provide taxable services.
Income Tax Act, 1961: Charitable and religious institutions may be eligible for income tax exemptions under sections such as Section 11 and Section 12 of the Income Tax Act, provided they meet certain criteria.
Municipal and Local Laws Shops and Establishments Acts:
Charity Commissioner Regulations
Religious Endowments Acts
Foreign Contribution (Regulation) Act, 2010 (FCRA)
Environmental Laws
Now we will outline a few activities that are conducted by a religious member for charitable purposes from time to time. A few of these are:
Catering/Food Services
Renting premises for events
Publication Sales
Participation in activities:
Training or coaching in recreational activities:
Interest Income
√Catering/Food Services:
If the dharamshalas provide meals to its guests, either included in the accommodation package or separately, these services will attract GST. Separate invoicing for food services may be necessary to comply with GST regulations, and if GST rates are applicable to food, catering then has to pay a 5% GST rate with no option to claim ITC 5%. GST on restaurant services, including room service and takeout, provided by restaurants located within a hotel featuring a room tariff less than Rs. 7,500. 5% GST on any food or drink (non-alcoholic) served at a cafeteria, canteen, or mess operating on a contract basis in an office, industrial unit, school, college, hostel, dharamshalas, etc.
√Renting premises for events
As per clause 5(a) of Exemption Notification No. 25/2012-ST dated June 20, 2012, “Renting of precincts of a religious place for charitable purposes meant for the general public” is exempt.
The exemption is not applicable to:
Renting of rooms where charges are Rs. 1,000 or more per day;
Renting of premises, community halls, kalyanmandapam or open area, and the like where charges are Rs. 10,000 or more per day;
Renting of shops or other spaces for business or commerce where charges are Rs. 10,000 or more per month.
√Publication sales:
The business definition covers the sale of publications by charitable organizations. The sale of consideration is covered in the definition of supply, so it will be covered under GST. However, books are covered under HSN code 4901, and newspapers and monthly journals are covered under HSN code 4902. These then attract NIL-rated GST. But yearly printed calendars covered under HSN Code 4910 attract a 12% GST rate. So, the conclusion is that publication sales are taxable, and these provisions are applicable to all NPOs.
Recently, the Maharashtra Authority for Advance Ruling in the case of Shrimad Raj Chandra Adhyatmik Satsang Sadhana Kendra held that the income of religious organizations from the sale of books, DVDs, magazines, and other such materials along with food would come within the GST purview as these activities are not “charitable activities.” All such activities shall be treated as business activities on which GST will have to be charged and paid. The advancement of religion or spirituality is exempt under the GST Act as a charitable activity, but there is no specific exemption listed out in the Act in respect of incidental or ancillary services provided by the trust. To be eligible for any exemption, the applicant should qualify for each condition without any dependence on a third party.

Administrative Roles and Challenges
Thakur's administrative journey in cricket reached its zenith when he became the BCCI president in May 2016. His tenure, however, was cut short in January 2017 by a Supreme Court order due to issues related to compliance with court directives and providing false testimony. Despite the setback, Thakur's contributions to cricket administration were significant, particularly in navigating the legal challenges surrounding the ownership of the International Cricket Stadium in Dharamshala.

This achievement highlighted his dedication to national service and added another dimension to his multifaceted career.

Anurag Thakur married Shefali Thakur on November 27, 2002. Shefali is the daughter of Gulab Singh Thakur, a former minister in the Himachal Pradesh government. Thakur's family background and personal life have been supportive pillars in his illustrious career.
Awards and Recognitions
Thakur's contributions have been recognized with several awards. In 2011, he was honored with the Best Young Parliamentarian Award, acknowledging his dynamic role as one of India's youngest parliamentarians. In 2019, he received the Sansad Ratna Award for his exceptional work during the 16th Lok Sabha term.

With The Mountains | Dharamshala to Kullu | College Trip | Part-3 . As we were elevating, the view below was getting prettier, and more beautiful. The houses and shops were getting smaller, and the mountains and clouds were getting bigger. Each step I took felt like I was experiencing a separate adventure. With each step the destination was getting closer and new things were getting discovered by my eyes. Each step was telling me that no matter what, you can achieve what you truly pursue. At one point the view was of the city below us, at other point it was like a city was here a thousand years from ago, now extinct and the place has grown shrubs and trees all over it. But there wasn’t a point that was not a treat to the eyes, and as gorgeous and green as these. . New blog is up. Link is in the bio. Please read and comment. .
