Deuce Spade showing up at the door to Ramshackle is not uncommon. On a normal day, he’ll show up with his backpack slung across his shoulder and a smile spread across his face. But today was anything but a regular day.

His head is turned away from you as you open the door, the wood creaking being the only sound between the two of you. His hair—that’s usually combed—is spiked up in odd ways, and his tie is pulled loose. Looking down, you can see how his hands are turned palms-forward, as if he doesn’t want you to see the backs of them.

“Deuce?” you say as you scan over him. He doesn’t tilt his head up as you say his name like he usually does, and you know something’s off.

“Could I, uh, come inside?” he asks, his voice more awkward than usual. And softer, too.

“Yeah,” you say, leaving space in the doorway for him to come inside.

“Thanks,” he says, and you can see just a small flash of teeth from a smile he gives you as he walks by. You lock the door haphazardly as he walks over to your living room and sinks into a couch, its old memory foam cushion not supporting him at all.

Standing in the doorway, you stare at him as he fidgets with his fingers and stares in front of him. As you watch him, you notice just how red his knuckles are. And that paired with the way he’s tilting his face away from you gives you all the information you need to know. It’s not like you weren’t expecting something like this, especially after connecting the dots that the legendary Cold One Duke from the visit to his hometown is actually “Cauldron Deuce”, which is a less terrifying—but all the more endearing—nickname. Turning on your heel, you head up the stairs and into the only usable bathroom, before opening up the medicine cabinet to grab your medicine kit.

“Myahh, human, what’s all the ruckus about?” Grim asks you as you leave the bathroom, his voice carrying out of your bedroom and through the hall.

Poking your head into your room, you spot Grim curled up on your bed, one eye open as he sunbathes. “Nothing, just grabbing something from the bathroom.”

He purrs in response, drifting back off to sleep like he didn’t hear you at all.

Laughing silently to yourself, you open up your phone to snap a photo of the cat monster. You notice there’s no notification from Ace, which usually always happens when something—anything—goes on. Frowning, you shoot him a quick text to try and maybe get a gauge of the situation before you go ask Deuce about it. 

you (4:14 pm): hey what happened to deuce? hes over here beat up bro

When there’s no immediate response you sigh, turning your phone off and making your way back downstairs to the couch where Deuce is still seated. Walking into the room, you take a seat across from him on the dusty coffee table, setting the first aid kit down next to you and opening it up.

“C’mon,” you say as you hold out a palm.

Deuce looks at you skeptically before complying, placing his beat up hand on your clean one.

“Sorry,” he mumbles, almost like he didn’t know how to say it.

You respond by pressing a little harder on his hand with an alcohol swab, making a wince appear across his face. “For what?”

“...Showing up,” he responds hesitantly, shrugging. “Here.”

“Mm,” you hum, thinking about what to say in response. There’s a beat of silence, and you can tell that Deuce is getting more uncomfortable by the second. “What even caused this in the first place?”

“Someone… said something,” he pauses, trying to figure out what words he wants to say.

“About you, or…?”

There’s a soft groan that escapes Deuce, one that he usually makes when he’s frustrated with classwork. “No. It was about, uh, you.”

Your hands stall for a minute as you take in that sentence, before starting back up again, now on his other hand. “You didn’t have to, y’know.”

Deuce finally looks up at you when you say that, and through the bruise that’s forming on his eyelid, you can see him reeling and trying to form a sentence that’s not abrasive. “What do you mean?”

“I mean like, you didn’t have to get in a fight because someone said something mean,” you tell him, now focusing on his face. Pushing his hair away from his face and pinning it back with a random hair clip you had laying around on the table from one of your previous sleepovers with the rest of the first-year group. As you poke around, you can feel his face start to heat up under your touch. “Are you getting a cold?”

“What?!” he splutters, pushing your hands away from his pink-tinted face. “No! No, I’m not. And of course I had to do something, I li—”

He cuts himself off, which is truly a sight to behold. You almost giggle as his face contorts into a look that seems painful. But you let the silence settle as you wait for him to say something.

“Sorry,” he says, a hand coming up to rub the nape of his neck. “I shouldn’t have—”

You don’t know what else to do but to cut him off by pressing your lips to his. He makes a noise of surprise, and not being experienced in the subject of kissing, he doesn’t know exactly what to do. As you lean away, he follows you for just a second before reeling back, a look of shock evident on both your faces. 

“Uh— sorry,” now it’s your turn to flush red.

“No! No it was…” he trails off, unsure of how to finish his sentence without sounding totally stupid. “I– I liked it.”

He sounded stupid anyway, but you didn’t care.

“I like you, Deuce,” you tell him. “It’s probably pretty obvious now, haha.”

“I, uh, I like you too,” he responds, lifting one of his bruised hands to caress your cheek. “Can we uh… do that again?”

This time you laugh at him, but not in a mean way; never in a mean way. “Of course.”

Your phone buzzes on the coffee table next to you, but you’re too caught up to notice as you lean in for the second time that afternoon, and leave all your worries for another moment.

I'm rewatching Night At The Museum but like a LARRY DALEY/DALEY! READER IN TWISTED WONDERLAND!? Like, they're related to Larry Daley and shit and they were training to be a Night Gaurd for the museum but now, they have to deal with overblots and stuff and they're armed with nothing but a trusty flash light?

- Like, you've dealt with a gigantic skeleton T-Rex, so you're not SUPER phased when you meet Grim. He's like a little tiny version of Rexy, you know?

- You're fighting with magical students and you casually blind them with your flashlight before hitting them with it just like you're dad taught you and stuff. Like, whenever Jade or Floyd sneak on you, your reflexes are faster and you're all: "SORRY! SORRY, REFLEX. I got kidnapped by a lot of museum artifacts back in my world so I developed, like, you know, a 6th sense."

- No because I can imagine that you're so unphased by paintings that come to life and you have such avid conversations with them.

- Not to mention you have to get used to the fact that the VILLAINS in your Disney stories are their gods and you give them due respect but its still so bizarre.

- BUT NOW CONSIDER THIS IDEA: UNCLE JEDEDIAH AND UNCLE OCTAVIUS END UP TRAVELING WITH YOU TO TWISTED WONDERLAND.

- The magic of this world keeps them alive without the tablet and since you're all by yourself, they're super protective of you despite their small size and stature. Also, they have a shaky relationship with Grim because he tried to eat them but now, all three of them are just trouble.

- Like they ride around on his back from class to class with you as you adjust to your new responsibilities to this world.

- ALSO, ACE WHEN HE FIRST PICKS ON YOU. Like, he grabs Jed and he's all: "Aw, how stupid, you've got a little cowboy toy?" and then Jedediah is all: "BOY, HAVE YOU DONE LOST YOUR MIND!? DON'T MAN HANDLE ME-" and Ace drops him and you catch Jed.

- NO BECAUSE JEDEDIAH AND OCTAVIUS GETTING ATTATCHED TO YOUR NEW FRIENDS, DUECE AND ACE AS WELL. Like, they can somewhat keep you safe in this new world and plus, when Deuce gets a bit hot headed, Octavius keeping him calm and saying some wise words. Or if Ace is complaining, Jedediah is standing on his shoulder and scolding him before Ace is all: "OKAY! OKAY, FINE, YOU MIGHT HAVE A POINT."

- AND THEN WHAT IF THE MUSEUM BACK IN THE WORLD WHERE YOUR DAD IS AT HAS A SPECIAL MIRROR FROM TWISTED WONDERLAND, like, he finds it and you're able to talk to everyone else from it.

- "(Y/n)!? ARE YOU OKAY!?"

"OFF WITH YOUR HEADS! STOP RUNNING!" Riddle yells, chasing after the three of you down the halls, attempting to catch up.

"Catch us if you can, Rosey boy! This dude ain't stoppin' for no one!" You yell back at him, dashing away with your two friends, you and Ace skipped class today, and had intentionally broken some rules, and dragging Deuce along with you, so of course you'd all get in trouble with Riddle for that. To be honest, Riddle is breaking a rule too, because he's running in the halls to catch the three of you, too bad he won't catch you guys, you seem to be faster than him.

"Haha! L!" Ace laughs as you all you dash away from the housewarden who is persuing you, ain't no way you're getting your heads cut clean off today. You swerve your way through the students in the bustling halls, you ended up pushing some of them out of the way, which you all quickly apologized for, the students you pushed seemed confused, until they noticed the housewarden of Heartslabyul running behind you, face red with anger, yelling things that they didn't really bother trying to hear, they just shook their heads and forgot about it.

You ended up running right out of the building, and losing Riddle after dashing to hide behind the statues of the Great Seven on main street, you all sighed of relief after he had vanished from sight, but you then dragged the two boys with you to go hide behind the school, you couldn't risk hanging out on main street and getting caught, because there was without a doubt Riddle would return there for a double check. You had figured out through some gossip that there was a ladder set up around the back of the school that lead to the roof. Some students that claimed to have been up there say the view is great, so you thought it would be nice for a hangout spot, at least for now.

While you were dragging the two along, they couldn't help but blush a little, you could tell by the lingering redness on their cheeks. You were holding their hands while you were dragging them, so its to be expected. Not to mention the fact the two of them had secretly had a crush on you for some time now. You had led them to the rooftop, where the three of you at down to enjoy the view, and talk for a bit.

"Whoo! That was fun, eh?" You asked them, sweating, but still full of energy.

"Y-yeah... very fun..." Ace stuttered, which a nervous expression, which confused you, you had never seen Ace nervous before.

"Ace, are you good? Why's your face all red? And why are you stuttering? That's like... really rare for you." you ask him, he blushes more and doesn't respond, only making you more confused, Deuce seemed the same way, nervous... What happened to all the energy they had moments ago when you were running away from Riddle together?

This moment went from what was supposed to be fun, to being flat out awkward... the boys were silent... which was really rare for them, usually they're bickering about something or talking to you or just having a bunch of fun telling jokes and laughing together. This all feels so weird to you... Maybe they're not feeling well? Had they eaten today? Where's all their enthusiasm, and why isn't Deuce scolding you and Ace for your stupidity, or for skipping class and getting him dragged into your mess again?

Meanwhile, the two boys are just admiring the view, but the view wasn't what was out in the horizon, the view was you. They were looking right at you with their lovestruck eyes... and you didn't notice because you were too stuck in your thoughts, worrying about why they aren't saying anything, or arguing about something...

The three of you kept silent for a while longer, the two continuing to start at you with those lovesick eyes, until you finally decided to speak up.

"Alright, things have gotten too quiet..." you sigh, "Can't we talk about something, like maybe... oh I don't know, something random? I've got Cards Against Humanity in my bag, and a bunch of other card games like that!" you suggested, then you looked over at Ace, you noticed his expression while he was staring right into your eyes, then you looked to Deuce, who had the same expression... you were now even more confused... Why are they staring at you so intensely with those expressions? What did you say that has them looking at you like you're the only thing in the world, when the world is all around them? They're zoned out too...

You snap your fingers in front of their faces, snapping them out of their daze.

"Sheesh... you guys are acting strange today... are ya cursed or something? Did someone force some kinda potion in your mouths?" you ask them, sarcastically, chuckling to yourself.

"A-ah- sorry, Prefect... I zoned out... looking at you..." Deuce chuckled shyly.

"Y-yeah, me too... sorry." Ace apologized, scratching the back of his neck nervously...

"Do... you guys got somethin you wanna tell me? Why are you so nervous and shy all of a sudden? Both of ya don't have a crush on me, do ya?" you jokingly asked, expecting them to say "No way dude!" or "Hell nah!" but no... they stayed silent, their faces red... That's when it clicked for you.

"Wait... wait, wait, wait... Are you... serious?" You asked them, you seriously didn't expect this... They both nodded slowly... blushing more.

You lost all your words at this point... you really didn't expect this... They both had a crush on you? Both of them? Whenever Epel had said they both had a crush on you, you figured it was a joke, you didn't notice them dropping any hints towards it...

"You... probably don't like us back, huh?" Ace asked, his tone was sad, the two of them looked down...

"I never said that." You replied, a smile starting to form on your face.

Their heads rise in shock, they looked at each other, then back at you.

"wait... are you saying... you do like us?" they asked in unison, you nodded.

"Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying." you smile brightly, "But why didn't you tell me before? We could've gotten together like... wayyy long ago!" You chuckle, the two were clearly happy to hear this, since their facial expressions went from gloomy, to smiles brighter than the sun itself... it was adorable.

From then on, the three of you were together, always going on shopping and dinner dates, frequent sleepovers with tons of cuddles, and more, while Jack, Epel and Sebek just stand there as 3rd, 4th and 5th wheels... (Someone help them, they're embarrassed by you three and the constant lovey doveyness.)

"Fuck, Fuck, Fuck Fuck...." Deuce said, he was carrying three pink boxes. What they contained was unknown. "Ya need help?" Epel catched up to him. Not waiting for an answer, he took one of the boxes and followed him.

"Thanks man..be careful with em, okay? They're for..." he didnt finish his sentence. A light blush appeared on his cheeks at the thought of his special someone.

"OH YEAAAAAAH!" "Epel! Quiet!" "Sorry sorry, how long was it again? Just a couple of weeks right?" "Yeah, still surprised it actually happened. That we're. A thing now.." the two boys continued on their journey to Ramshackle.

A few of the other guys were there. Jack and Sebek setting up some decor on the walls and Ace was away with Grim. Keeping you busy.

Epel and Deuce places the three pink boxes down and opened them. One box had cupcakes with the words "HAPPY" written on them. The next was a cake, written on it was "BIRTHDAY". And the last one was a set of cookies. On it was your name.

"Did we have to get this many?" Sebek asked, hanging up a banner. "Some other guys are also coming." Jack replied, hanging up the other side. "Ohhhh and the ghosts right?" "And the ghosts...how do ghosts eat?" "Beats me, i bet it goes right through them"

A few hours later, Ace and Grim lead you to your dorm.

"I swear up, down, left, right, and center if you two are leading me to ANOTHER over blot I'm gonna kill myself." You said, letting the two drag you. "WHAT! we would NEVER!" Ace looked hurt at the idea.

Grim and Ace both lead you to your door. It was dark Inside. Looking for the light switch and switching it on, you heard many people say "happy birthday!"

Walking up to you, Deuce greeted you with a kiss on the cheek. "Happy birthday, take a break and rest okay? You deserve it."

Twisted Night At The Museum HCs/Thoughts/Concepts:

These are brain farts but ya'll are making me feel like I have the biggest brain so-

- If the Daley! Reader had a Unique Magic it'd be: "Alive for the Night" where basically any statues on display and stuff can come to life. Including the ones of the Great Seven but they can only do it at night. (Idk if you guys want them to have it or not, ya'll can fight about it in the notes)

- The Daley! Reader was also adopted by Larry after Nicky moved out and became a DJ, Larry is still a super protective father whose very anxious and is looking through various museum archives to figure out if something can be done about his child whose stuck in Twisted Wonderland. He requires you to check the mirror and talk to him at least 4 times a day to know you're alright and if you miss a time, YOU BETTER HAVE A GOOD EXCUSE-

- No but parent teacher conferences and you have to hold the mirror so that your teachers can talk to Larry through it.

Larry Daley + His Relationship with the Staff:

- Crowley: No, he's been in this game long enough to know that Crowley isn't trustworthy and while you KNOW he isn't trust worthy, he is the reason that Larry wants you to check in 4 times a day. Crowley tries to paint it like everything is fine and Larry pretends to believe him. Crowley is just a bit off put by Larry because you're already such an odd and resourceful individual, that he can't imagine what your father (the man who raised you) must be like and while he laughs whenever Larry promises to bring you home, Crowley slowly starts to believe him. Like, bro, he deals with a magic tablet and brought a family of old Egyptian pharaohs together, Larry Daley is getting his child back.

- Crewel is the only man in this school that Larry trusts, along with Trein, but Larry does notice that Crewel seems a lot more concerned with your safety and has a soft spot for you. Crewel will also give Larry due respect and while he's not sure about his bland outfit choices, he's very much aware that your father loves and is worried for you and so, Crewel will make sure you are well behaved and taken care off until you're able to reunite. It's bittersweet for him because he does grow to get attatched to you but soon realizes that he's never gonna be your father back home. (SPLIT CUSTODY IS ALL I'M GONNA SAY).

- Vargas: Larry hates him so much. Like in the movies, he's always snarky and closed off from people he dislikes so their conversations are always so passive aggressive. Like, Vargas is all: "Ha, no wonder you look so wimpy! Look at your dad!" and Larry is all: "First of all, they're adopted (but still my kid) so neither of us can really say anything but second of all, I went face to face with a triceratops, so, yeah. Not sure if they have those in your world, but thats pretty impressive." and Vargas just brushes him off and he HATES IT.

- Next is Trein, who is like a strict grandpa to you and one of the other teachers who get along with Larry. As a father himself, he admires Larry trying to protect you as best as he can while he's in a different world, and he couldn't imagine what it would be like if his own children where stranded in a place he couldn't protect them in. So yeah, while your dad is awkward, Trein tries to help him out and ease both his and your anxieties. I also can totally see Dexter the Cappuchin Monkey and Lucius fighting across the mirror.

- Sam is one that Larry doesn't see to often aside from Larry trying to find old spells in old archives that require magical ingredients that he doesn't know about so he'll ask Sam about them or see if he can find any suitable substitutes and Sam will do it of course, for a fee. He really admires your dad's dedication but he also admires the relationship and bond you two have. Yeah, you might come into his shop to rant about how protective he is and some other flaws but you love him dearly. Sometimes he'll throw in a few freebies because at the end of the day, you two just want to be with each other again.

NOW LET'S TALK ABOUT SOME STUDENTS AND HOW I FEEL LIKE INTERACTIONS WITH THEM WOULD GO.

Now back to some general headcanons:

- Okay so have you guys seen the Stuart Little movies? Where he has a bunch of ladders and stuff around the room because he's small and can't get to places faster, thats kinda what you have to do for Jedediah and Octavius. They sleep on your nightstand after Deuce and Jack either made tiny beds for them or you made them in a wood work class or something.

- I can also totally see that after the first winter break, your first year friends bring back some old childhood toys that maybe Jedediah and Octavius can use to help or to help them travel faster around the campus.

- Deuce brought back an old remote controlled Magic Wheel (the motorcycle thing he likes) and gave it to them so not only can they ride around in style but they also have a tendency to drive recklessly and trip over poor unsuspecting students who are just trying to walk to their class. They'll do it especially if they mess with you.

- Ace brings them back like, tiny weapons from his old toy soldiers and stuff and while they might not do much, he just thinks its so funny how serious Octavius is when he's all: "Thank you, Child of Trappola, for I now have an arsenal to defend Fort Ramshackle!" and Jedediah rolling his eyes.

- You try to keep them on higher ground, especially due to the rats but I love the idea that when you're away on classes and you trust them not to do anything stupid, they're riding around on Grim and throwing toy spears at any rats running around and defending their home. Like to them, it's an intense battle where they could possibly die but to the ghosts, it looks like they're just annoying the rats that they eventually just give up and leave because they're so annoying and rambunctious.

- Out of all of your friends, they like to use Jack as a mode of transportation. After all, he's HUGE and when they sit on his shoulders, they're absolutely amazed by how much they can see. Jack tries his best to remember they're on his shoulders but if a class is really boring and he forgets, he'll lean on one shoulder which causes them to lose balance and almost fall but hed got quick reflexes and apologizes to them.

- THE WAY EPEL AND THEM WOULD GET ALONG. Like, Epel will walk in all roughed up because he got into a fight and walk past you to rant to Jedediah and Octavius and talk about how some kids were picking on him for being cute and little and Jed and Oct are all: "YA BETTER HAVE SHOWN 'EM THAT WHAT FOR!" and Epel is all: "COURSE I DID!" and you just sigh because you know that Vil is gonna ask to keep Epel away from your "little raggedy friends".

- BELIEVE IT OR NOT, SEBEK ACTUALLY RESPECTS YOUR LITTLE CREW. Especially after he finds out you want to be a Night Gaurd and mistakes your words and believes that you come from a family of noble gaurdians who keep the ancient relics of your world safe (which is kinda true but its not that dramatic) and when he sees you defend yourself with a mere flashlight, you become his idol.

- IN NIGHT OF THE MUSEUM TWO, THERE'S THIS SCENE THAT FITS PERFECTLY WITH YOU AND SEBEK FIRST MEETING, HERE'S THE LINK BUT GO TO 1:57 BUT THAT'S HOW I IMAGINE YOUR FIRST MEETING WITH SEBEK GOES.

You, whispering as your faces are squished together: "Listen, fae boy, you do not know who you're dealing with. I've seen things in my world, stuff you can't even imagine."

Sebek, whispering back: "Like what kind of stuff?"

- OKAY BUT YOU BEING DEEMED THE NIGHT GAURD OF NIGHT RAVEN COLLEGE. Like idk, maybe you don't need as much sleep as everyone or during weekends, you just hibernate and then survive on naps and energy drinks throughout the week (it's such an unhealthy habit, all of the Dorm Leaders are concerned and Vil might trick you into drinking a sleeping potion if your eyebags get too prominent) but I love the idea that the bullying rates go down. Hell, even the Savanahclaw dorm kids don't try to start with as many fights with you around because they know you'll finish them with your flashlight. Like they're all cornering you and you blind one of them temporarily before you do some cool fighting moves. Your quick wit and training as a night gaurd is the only thing you've got to give you an edge in this world and by God are you gonna use it.

-And even if that fails you, you've got friends who've got your back. Like you get cornered by some bullies and then they feel something stab their feet and Jed and Octavius are bravely stabbing their shoes and the students are hopping around in pain.

- But yeah, the Night Gaurd in you just makes you walks around Night Raven College and look at all the various statues and history and you read and do your research on Twisted Wonderland.

- Like in the first movie, the thing Larry did after his first wild night at the museum was do research and by God, do you dedicate yourself to doing research on Twisted Wonderland and the study of magic.

- ALSO MALLEUS JOINING YOU DURING YOUR LATE NIGHT PATROLS OF YOUR SCHOOL GROUNDS and telling you everything there is to know about the magic here. You know how Ahkmenrah calls Larry "Gaurdian of Brooklyn"?
