hello sorry this is probably Slightly weird but a while back (like, six months ago i think!) you posted a meme about felix klare wanting sebastian to cheat on his wife with his best friend? and i was wondering if there's a story or a quote or something behind that because... sir?
aahahah dw I can explain, it refers the Tatort Stuttgart episode “Scherbenhaufen” where Sebastian and Thorsten discuss Sebastian’s fake background story before he goes on his undercover mission. (”I ended up cheating on her with my best friend” “huh I thought I were your best friend?” “yes exactly!!” “ahaha keep dreaming”)
and also to this interview with Felix where he says he wouldn’t have minded to have a gay detective couple since Sebastian is divorced now, but “Richy didn’t want to”

Bohren & Der Club of Gore — Patchouli Blue (Ipecac)
Tumblr media
youtube
A saxophone emerges from the velvet blackness; plaintive notes stretched, sustained, saddening the night above a barely brushed hi-hat and snare. Reverberating bass, shimmering keyboards, the pace slow, building tension. Christoph Clöser (saxophones, piano, Fender Rhodes electric piano, vibraphone, drums), Morten Gass (organ, synthesizer, mellotron, Fender Rhodes electric piano, eight-string bass, vocoder, drums) and Robin Rodenberg (acoustic and electric bass, drums) emerged from Germany’s hardcore scene in the mid- 1990s with a sound diametrically opposite to that from whence they came. Death Jazz, Jazznoir, Detective Jazz, Loungecore: call it what you will but after a six-year absence and having lost foundation drummer Thorsten Benning, Bohren & Der Club Of Gore are back with Patchouli Blue, a riveting addition to their discography.
Clöser has Dexter Gordon’s ability to play within the melody of a ballad, to physicalize every note, lingering for full effect. The self-control with which he, Gass and Rodenberg play is central to Bohren’s method. At times you wish they’d just let go, smash the keys, bash the drums, scream and squawk but that is not their way. It is not politesse, it’s a measured, deliberate approach that wants the listener to hear and feel each beat and breath, every sustained chord and all the keystones and buttresses in the vaulting space of their cathedral of sound. Subtle details abound, the machine rhythm and deep organ swells in “Vergessen Und Vorbei” which approaches a dramatically decelerated techno, a vibraphone on the title track, Rodenberg’s short upright bass solo in “Sollen Es Doch Alle Wissen”, the otherworldly romanticism of the mellotron and always the haunted saxophone, distant but inviting.
Patchouli Blue is at once the perfect background for a Chekovian dinner party and the soundtrack for a particularly intricate torture session. The smooth veneer covers a multitude of sins and ecstasies, tension builds like a dysfunctional Thanksgiving reunion, all whispers, innuendos and sidelong glances simmering with emotion and all the unsaid with which people tear themselves and others apart. Bohren & Der Club Of Gore play the beauty of all that feeling yearning for expression with immaculate music that pierces the darkness with pinpoints of light. Put your sunglasses on and venture forth.

Uncovered: 1,000 phrases that incorrectly trigger Alexa, Siri, and Google Assistant

As Alexa, Google Home, Siri, and other voice assistants have become fixtures in millions of homes, privacy advocates have grown concerned that their near-constant listening to nearby conversations could pose more risk than benefit to users. New research suggests the privacy threat may be greater than previously thought.
The findings demonstrate how common it is for dialog in TV shows and other sources to produce false triggers that cause the devices to turn on, sometimes sending nearby sounds to Amazon, Apple, Google, or other manufacturers. In all, researchers uncovered more than 1,000 word sequences—including those from Game of Thrones, Modern Family, House of Cards, and news broadcasts—that incorrectly trigger the devices.
“The devices are intentionally programmed in a somewhat forgiving manner, because they are supposed to be able to understand their humans,” one of the researchers, Dorothea Kolossa, said. “Therefore, they are more likely to start up once too often rather than not at all.”
That which must not be said
Examples of words or word sequences that provide false triggers include
Alexa: “unacceptable,” “election,” and “a letter”
Google Home: “OK, cool,” and “Okay, who is reading”
Siri: “a city” and “hey jerry”
Microsoft Cortana: “Montana”
The two videos below show a GoT character saying “a letter” and Modern Family character uttering “hey Jerry” and activating Alexa and Siri, respectively.
youtube
Accidental Trigger #1 – Alexa – Cloud
youtube
Accidental Trigger #3 – Hey Siri – Cloud
In both cases, the phrases activate the device both locally, where algorithms analyze the phrases; after mistakenly concluding that these are likely a wake word, the devices then send the audio to remote servers where more robust checking mechanisms also mistake the words for wake terms. In other cases, the words or phrases trick only the local wake word detection but not algorithms in the cloud.
Unacceptable privacy intrusion
When devices wake, the researchers said, they record a portion of what’s said and transmit it to the manufacturer. The audio may then be transcribed and checked by employees, in an attempt to improve word recognition. The result: fragments of potentially private conversations can end up in the company logs.
The risk to privacy isn’t solely theoretical. In 2016, law enforcement authorities investigating a murder subpoenaed Amazon for Alexa data transmitted in the moments leading up to the crime. Last year, The Guardian reported that Apple employees sometimes transcribe sensitive conversations overheard by Siri. They include private discussions between doctors and patients, business deals, seemingly criminal dealings, and sexual encounters.
The research paper, titled “Unacceptable, where is my privacy?,” is the product of Lea Schönherr, Maximilian Golla, Jan Wiele, Thorsten Eisenhofer, Dorothea Kolossa, and Thorsten Holz of Ruhr University Bochum and Max Planck Institute for Security and Privacy. In a brief write-up of the findings, they wrote:
Our setup was able to identify more than 1,000 sequences that incorrectly trigger smart speakers. For example, we found that depending on the pronunciation, «Alexa» reacts to the words “unacceptable” and “election,” while «Google» often triggers to “OK, cool.” «Siri» can be fooled by “a city,” «Cortana» by “Montana,” «Computer» by “Peter,” «Amazon» by “and the zone,” and «Echo» by “tobacco.” See videos with examples of such accidental triggers here.
In our paper, we analyze a diverse set of audio sources, explore gender and language biases, and measure the reproducibility of the identified triggers. To better understand accidental triggers, we describe a method to craft them artificially. By reverse-engineering the communication channel of an Amazon Echo, we are able to provide novel insights on how commercial companies deal with such problematic triggers in practice. Finally, we analyze the privacy implications of accidental triggers and discuss potential mechanisms to improve the privacy of smart speakers.
The researchers analyzed voice assistants from Amazon, Apple, Google, Microsoft, and Deutsche Telekom, as well as three Chinese models by Xiaomi, Baidu, and Tencent. Results published on Tuesday focused on the first four. Representatives from Amazon, Apple, Google, and Microsoft didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.
The full paper hasn’t yet been published, and the researchers declined to provide a copy ahead of schedule. The general findings, however, already provide further evidence that voice assistants can intrude on users’ privacy even when people don’t think their devices are listening. For those concerned about the issue, it may make sense to keep voice assistants unplugged, turned off, or or blocked from listening except when needed—or to forgo using them at all.

EU Sends Team to Assess "Significant Damage" From X-Press Pearl Wreck
A UN-backed team has arrived in Sri Lanka to help local officials estimate the extent of the environmental damage from the burning and sinking of the container feeder X-Press Pearl, which went down earlier this month off Colombo. The sinking released tonnes of plastic pellets and burned debris into the marine environment, prompting a massive shoreline cleanup operation on pristine local beaches.
"An environmental emergency of this nature causes significant damage to the planet by the release of hazardous substances into the ecosystem," said UN Resident Coordinator in Sri Lanka Hanaa Singer-Hamdy. "This in turn threatens lives and livelihoods of the population in the coastal areas. Our efforts are intended to support assessment of the damage, recovery efforts and ensure prevention of such disasters in the future."
This photo story bears testimony to the effort being taken by #srilanka_navy to restore the previous condition of coastal belt spanning Kepungoda-Sarakkuwa. #lka #SriLanka #defence #beachcleaning pic.twitter.com/j1qf0VlpnX
— The Sri Lanka Navy (@srilanka_navy) June 17, 2021
The team is providing technical advisory support to the Sri Lankan experts on oil spill contingency planning, clean-up operations and environmental impact assessment, drawing on international best practice. They will work closely with Sri Lankan counterparts from the Marine Environment Protection Authority, Ministry of Environment, Central Environmental Authority and other agencies.
The delegation is sponsored by the European Union, and it includes Dr. Stephane Le Floch and Dr. Camille La Croix from the France National Oil Response and Research Centre (CEDRE) and Mr. Luigi Alcaro from the Italian National Institute for Environmental Protection and Research (ISPRA). "I’m pleased to announce that the EU, in collaboration with the UN, is able to deploy environmental emergency experts to support Sri Lanka in addressing, and more importantly limiting, the impact of the MV X-press Pearl disaster,” said Thorsten Bargfrede, chargé d’affaires at the Delegation of the European Union to Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
The Eu has also provided satellite imaging support for spill detection through the EU Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA), plus a donation of about $240 million to pay for cleanup gear and PPE.
Separately, the UK government’s Centre for the Environment, Fisheries and Aquaculture Science (CEFAS) is providing laboratory services to analyze water monitoring samples and advise teams on the ground in Sri Lanka.
X-Press Feeders, the vessel's operator, confirmed last week that the wreck is now resting fully on the seabed at a depth of about 21 meters. Until recently, the bow was still afloat, creating challenges for the salvage response. Caretakers salvors are on site on a 24-hour watch to address any possible debris and report any spill, should one occur.
A grey sheen is still coming from the vessel, the operator confirmed, and discoloration of the sea in and around the wreck is still present. This change in color has been visible since the vessel went down on June 2, but has not been formally classified as a "spill."
According to local media, at least 30 turtles have washed up dead since the sinking, and fish filled with plastic granules (nurdles) from the cargo have been found on shore. Last week, one dead whale beached in Jaffna, on the island's northern tip; additional study will be required to determine which (if any) of these fatalities are related to the vessel casualty.

German prosecutors probing hack of energy firm last year
BERLIN (Reuters) – Federal prosecutors are investigating a cyber attack on a subsidiary of German energy firm EnBW (EBKG.DE) by unknown hackers last summer, the prosecutor’s office said on Wednesday.
The Sueddeutsche Zeitung newspaper reported on Tuesday that hackers had breached the networks of NetCom BW last summer, but did not gain access to the computer system it uses to control energy supplies. The hack was not publicly disclosed at the time.
Germany’s BSI federal cyber agency on Wednesday said it had assessed the incident and that there was no evidence to suggest that the company’s operations had been affected.
“The Chief Federal Prosecutor has opened a preliminary investigation in connection with the incident,” it said, without naming the company involved or providing additional details.
A spokesman for the prosecutor’s office confirmed the investigation was underway but gave no further details.
A spokeswoman for EnBW confirmed the incident in a statement, but said it was detected early and caused no damage.
“Unknown people attacked the telecommunications network of the EnBW subsidiary NetCom. The attackers breached the network by hacking the the portal used by an external service provider and had access to a limited portion of the internet traffic for a period of a few minutes,” she said.
“No damage was caused as a result,” she said, adding that the company immediately notified government authorities.
