Okay but like real talk at least one of Desmond’s coworkers at the bar/people he met while on the run had to think he was running from some weird super religious cult because he can’t exactly lead with “I spent my formative years training for a modern day holy war and decided it wasn’t for me” if he wanted to stay undercover and there are too many holes in his story to really cover it.

And to be fair I think Desmond would lean into it like you don’t look a gift horse in the mouth and you don’t deny the easiest backstory that lines up with both why he didn’t want to talk about his family/past and why he hasn’t heard of a lot of pop culture things.
