#Desert ferns

I had a bunch of meltdowns yesterday so my husband took me to see the ferns of the Sonoran desert. Here they are. You probably didn't know that the desert has ferns but it definitely does! They're super cool and adapted to high heat and little water. There are many species but we only found three right now. They like rocky outcroppings underneath trees and they frequently grow near seasonal creeks. Nobody grows these guys unfortunately. They're much more interesting than the ferns for sale in most nurseries, I think.

Here's the first fern. Pellaea truncata. Spiny Cliff Brake. It has a very unique look. Notice the bluish leaves that help handle excess light. There was a lot of this guy!

This fern was growing right next to the first! It's Myriopteris fendleri, we think, but we're not a hundred percent sure. Fendler's Lip Fern. These guys are a more traditional looking fern, but very small. Here's a pen for scale.

This one I found all by myself! A big milestone for a new fernhead! This is Myriopteris covillei. Coville's Lip Fern. Look at the back of the leaves! I think they recently made spores!

Anyway, I will keep you posted on my fern adventures. Sadly desert ferns are not much studied or cultivated by the native plant people. Not one of these are at any of the local botanical gardens. It's very sad.

i ordered from this place called hell and the pizza i got is a pandemonium (basically just a chicken and cranberry pizza)

ugh yes cuddles with bob sounds perfect actually!

he loves when you tuck his head under your chin and attempt to be the big spoon!

thinks it’s damn near cute when you insist he be the little spoon for a change

mostly he loves whenever you play with his hair

twirling it around your fingers, massaging his scalp, he loves it all

but beware if you stop bc the man whines in protest

whenever it’s cold and miserable out, he’ll make sure the place is warm and even suggest building a fort!

he’s always finding his sweaters in your closet (your fave is the old nasa one with holes in the hem and tatty collar)

he’s always going to suggest blowing off your plans so the two of you can stay home

but he’s torn because you look so damn pretty all glammed up for date night or hanging out with friends

the man is soft for you and he makes sure everyone knows it!!

sometimes the best gifts are the ones you never saw coming

You hadn't expected Nat to make it home for Christmas. She had gone on a deployment in late June and she wasn't expected back until mid-January. Nat talked to you about Christmas before she had left had you hadn't spoke about it since. You knew the risked she faced and you knew she had a duty to her country - did you still hold that little bit of hope for her to get to come home early? Of course you did. But when Christmas Eve rolled around and you only got a "Merry Christmas Baby, I love you" text, you knew she wasn't going to be home in time. You were upset, of course you were, your fiance wasn't going to be home for Christmas and it sucked - it always did. You went to your families Christmas Eve party, but you felt out of place and just lonely without Nat. So, you just kinda sat by yourself, socializing with your family when appropriate and playing a game or two. But you found yourself on your phone more often than not, staring at a photo she sent you of her and Jake and just smiling at her smile while twisting your engagement ring back and forth. Then you hear a knock and your little sister say that she would get the door. And when it opens, the room goes nearly silent and your curiousity tilts your head up as booted footsteps come towards the living room. Your jaw drops and your phone barely has time to hit the floor before your tackling Natasha in hug. "I'm not gonna ask... you're here... you're really here" "I'm here, Baby, I'm here" Needless to say, you clung to her for the rest of the party and then went home to snuggle and... other things.
