6 causes of itchy tongue
-Dr Amarnathan’s Dental Care - Dental Clinic in Tambaram
Tongue itchiness is a typical oral problem, but it is a warning indication for people who experience it regularly. Several variables, including viral infections, have been related to chronic itching sensations in the neck, tongue, lips, and other locations inside the mouth.
What are the possible causes of itching on the tongue?
The most common cause of itchy tongue is oral allergy syndrome. Meanwhile, a variety of dental issues and systemic disorders cause irritation in our tongues. The following are the primary causes of this tongue complaint:
1) Oral Allergens
Itching in the mouth occurs when certain allergens in foods and edible reproductive organs (for example, fruits, seeds, nuts) of a plant are exposed to your mouth. Food and oral allergies are frequently misinterpreted. Food allergies can harm vital organs and produce difficulties such as high heart rate, rashes, difficulty breathing, and so on.
2) Tongue abrasions
The tongue is a muscular organ with a mucosa covering and a good neurovascular supply. It means that if your tongue has a traumatic injury from accidental bites, tongue piercings, or other causes, it will feel sore until it heals fully.
3) Oral Thrush
Oral thrush is a yeast infection caused by the fungus Candida Albicans. It usually affects newborns, children, and persons with weakened immune systems. A fungal infection develops white and yellowish pimples on the cheeks and lips.
It produces minor discomforts such as itching in the tongue, soreness in the mouth, and so on. Don't be concerned. It is normally innocuous and heals itself on its own.
4) Hormonal Shifts
Women have physiological changes as a result of hormonal imbalances caused by puberty, pregnancy, and the menstrual cycle. As a result, women must deal with a variety of hormone-related mouth issues. Some symptoms include salivary gland swelling, swollen gums, a sore tongue, and canker sores. They are more likely to have itchy mouth if there is swelling inside their mouths.
5) Diabetes
Diabetics are more likely to experience itchy tongue. You may be aware that diabetics have higher glucose concentrations in their saliva than non-diabetics. The increased salivary glucose tends to breed oral microbes, causing mouth dryness and, eventually, oral thrush. We previously discussed the connection between oral thrush and itchy tongue.
6) Viral infections
Viruses such as rhinovirus, respiratory syncytial virus, adenovirus, and enterovirus attack the upper respiratory tract, causing the common cold and flu. When pathogens in the upper airway tract infect our bodies, our natural defence system sends specialised cells to fight them.
Conclusion
Tongue itching is caused by a variety of factors other than allergens. Even if dental professionals assist you in resolving this issue, you should maintain a healthy oral hygiene routine that includes scraping your tongue.
If you clean your tongue with a toothbrush, keep in mind that tongue scrapers are 30% more effective than toothbrushes at removing dead cells and volatile sulphur compounds trapped on the tongue surfaces.

Tongue ulcer – Causes, Symptoms & Treatment
Tongue ulcers are open wounds or sores on the tongue. Tongue ulcers are typically uncomfortable and can be aggravated by drinking and eating. A canker sore is a form of tongue ulcer that can arise for no apparent reason or be caused by a variety of irritants.
Causes of Tongue ulcers
Tongue ulcers can develop as a result of a variety of illnesses, including viral infections, oral cancer, or tongue damage. Finding and treating the underlying cause of tongue ulcers will aid in the healing process. In moderate situations, over-the-counter medications can help ease pain, and in certain circumstances, adopting good dental hygiene can help resolve tongue ulcers.
Some of causes of tongue ulcers due to infections are:
Canker sores are tiny, superficial wounds.
Gingivostomatitis is a bacterial or viral infection of the mouth.
Oral lichen planus is an immune system condition that can progress to cancer of the mouth.
Oral thrush is an infection on the surface of the tongue caused by the fungus candida.
Herpes Simplex infection is caused by a virus that causes infectious sores on the genitals or over the mouth.
Diseases that lead to tongue ulcers:
Lupus is an autoimmune disorder.
Behcet's syndrome is a widespread inflammation of blood vessels.
Crohn's disease is an intestinal inflammation.
Untreated tongue ulcers can lead to secondary infections, or oral cancer can spread to other regions of the body. If tongue ulcers are caused by an infection and are not treated, they can spread to other persons.
Seek prompt medical attention if you discover chronic tongue ulcers, as this could be a sign of a more serious disease, such as oral cancer or infection.

What You Should Know About Dental Implants?
Dental implants offer a long-lasting solution for missing teeth, providing a natural appearance and improved dental health. They are as strong and durable as real teeth.
This blog provides information on dental implants, addressing concerns about surgical complications and promoting a more permanent solution for missing teeth.
The Basics of Dental Implants
Dental implants are a surgical procedure that replaces damaged or lost adult teeth by implanting prosthetic root roots into the jawbone, making it the only viable option.
Titanium implants offer comparable strength and longevity to real teeth, providing a firm foundation for tooth replacement by fusing with the surrounding bone.
Dental implants are durable enough to withstand normal chewing, and those who have received them express satisfaction with their natural teeth.
Why Should One Choose Dental Implants?
Dental implants have the potential to significantly improve a person's overall health. Here are five benefits:
These implants are a long-term solution if properly cared for. They are not like dentures, which may require regular adjustments.
Missing teeth can make it difficult to speak. Stability is provided by the implants, allowing for clear and confident speech.
The implants resemble natural teeth in appearance and feel. It also enhances your grin without sacrificing its charm.
They stimulate the jawbone, hence reducing bone loss caused by missing teeth.
The implants protect the bone and gums that surround them.
Is Dental Implant Surgery Complicated or Dangerous?
Dental implant surgery, often misunderstood as difficult or dangerous, is a common, risk-free procedure performed by skilled dental professionals.
Dental implant surgery has a 98% success rate, making anyone in good health and with sufficient jawbone a suitable candidate.
What is the Process of Dental Implantation?
If you are missing teeth and your jaw is no longer expanding, your dentist may recommend dental implants. The steps in this procedure are as follows:
Your dentist will first check your teeth and discuss the best treatment choices with you. It will be tailored to your specific requirements.
The titanium implant is then surgically implanted into the jawbone. It serves as a stable and sturdy foundation.
You must wait for the implant to fuse with your jawbone. It occurs during the recuperation period, which often lasts many months.
After the titanium implant has healed, the dentist will attach an abutment to it. This attachment is what attaches it to the new tooth.
The abutment is then fitted with a custom-made crown or bridge by the dentist. This is the last step in creating your new grin.
How to Take Care of Dental Implants?
It is vital to maintain dental implants after they have been placed. It is necessary for their long-term existence. Follow these straightforward guidelines:
Brush and floss your dental implants the same way you would your natural teeth.
Maintain regular visits to your dentist
Avoid habits like tooth grinding.
Winding Up
Dental implants not only boost self-esteem but also provide a long-term solution for missing teeth, preserving health and a youthful appearance.
Consult your dentist to determine if dental implants are suitable for you, and consider a smile for a happy, healthy grin.
By working with an experienced prosthodontist and maintaining your implants well, they can last your entire life.

Wisdom Teeth Removal: Why is it necessary?
Dr Amarnathan's Dental Care
If you've ever felt the discomfort of emerging wisdom teeth, you're not alone. Today, the extraction of these molars via dental surgery has become a common practice, almost like a rite of passage for many young adults.
However, the importance of this procedure is not always obvious. Some may wonder why wisdom teeth should be removed if they are not causing pain. In this blog, we will look at the reasoning behind the importance of wisdom teeth removal.
Understanding the Origins of Wisdom Teeth
Evolutionary relics : Our diets have changed since the invention of cooking, making these extra molars less necessary.
The size of the jaw matters : Dietary changes over time have reduced the size of the human jaw, making it difficult for wisdom teeth to fit comfortably.
Overcrowding Issues : In the modern era, there is frequently insufficient space in our mouths for these late-blooming molars, which can cause a variety of issues.
Recognizing Signs that Wisdom Teeth Need Attention
Pain and discomfort : Persistent pain or discomfort in the back of your mouth could indicate a problem with your wisdom teeth.
Swelling and redness: Swelling or redness around your back molars may indicate an infection affecting your wisdom teeth.
Difficulty cleaning: Having trouble keeping those hard-to-reach wisdom teeth clean? This common issue can cause a variety of dental problems.
Why is Removal Often the Best Solution?
Impaction Issues : Wisdom teeth are prone to impaction, which means they do not fully emerge, causing infection, pain, and damage to the surrounding teeth.
Risk of Infection: Wisdom teeth, due to their location and difficulty to clean, can become a breeding ground for bacteria, increasing the risk of infection.
Shifting of existing teeth: The delayed arrival of wisdom teeth can cause existing teeth to shift, resulting in bite problems and potential orthodontic issues.
When Not to Remove Wisdom Teeth?
Proper Alignment: If your wisdom teeth are properly aligned and not causing pain, your dentist may recommend a wait-and-see approach.
Sufficient Space : In some cases, there may be enough space in the jaw to accommodate wisdom teeth without crowding or misalignment.
Good Dental Hygiene Practices : If you can maintain good oral hygiene and reach those back molars for a thorough cleaning, your dentist may consider leaving them.
If you're experiencing discomfort from your wisdom teeth, it may be time to see your local dentist and discuss extraction options. After all, a little proactive dental care can help you maintain your bright, healthy smile.

Why is the skin inside of your mouth peeling?
Dr Amarnathan’s Dental Care -Best Dental Clinic in Tambaram
Have you ever experienced the unpleasant sensation of your mouth's inner lining peeling? It can be a difficult and uncomfortable problem to deal with, raising questions about its cause and solution.
The skin inside your mouth protects the delicate structures beneath. However, it may start to peel at times, leaving you wondering why and what you can do to fix it.
Understanding the causes of this unusual phenomenon is critical for developing effective solutions and avoiding a recurrence.
Understanding Skin Peeling Inside Mouth
mouth skin peeling , also known as the oral mucosa, is the removal of the thin, delicate tissue that lines the oral cavity.
Trauma, harsh oral care products, infections, allergies, dry mouth, systemic diseases, and vitamin deficiencies can all contribute to this condition. Although most symptoms or pain are minor, persistent ones may necessitate a professional evaluation.
Maintaining proper dental hygiene and treating potential irritants will help avoid and reduce peeling while improving oral health.
Causes of Skin Peeling Inside Mouth
Skin peeling inside the mouth can be caused by several causes, including:
Trauma or Injury
Oral Hygiene Products
infections and Allergies
Dry Mouth
Systemic Conditions
Vitamin Deficiencies
How to Stop Skin Peeling Inside Mouth
Dealing with mouth peeling can be both annoying and painful. However, identifying the underlying causes and providing appropriate care can help to alleviate the situation. There are several approaches to addressing this issue.
Stay hydrated to prevent dehydration in your mouth and reduce the risk of skin peeling.
To prevent mouth skin irritation, avoid irritants like spicy foods, acidic drinks, and tobacco.
Brush your teeth regularly and use non-alcoholic mouthwash to promote healing and reduce irritation.
To avoid abrasiveness, use toothpaste that does not contain harsh ingredients like sodium lauryl sulfate.
Use a humidifier in dry weather to add moisture and prevent mouth dryness and peeling.
Apply aloe vera gel to the injured area to relieve pain and promote healing.
To reduce inflammation and improve oral health, avoid using tobacco and alcohol.
To protect your mouth skin, avoid biting or chewing on rough materials.
If skin peeling persists or is associated with other symptoms, seek medical attention to ensure an accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
When to Seek Medical Attention
Seek medical attention if you have peeling skin in your mouth.
Pain and Discomfort: If peeling causes pain, swelling, or any other symptoms.
Persistent Symptoms: Peeling continues despite home remedies and changes in oral care routines.
Recurrent Issues: If a problem occurs frequently, it may indicate a chronic condition.
In these cases, a professional medical evaluation is required to ensure a complete diagnosis and appropriate treatment.
Bottom line
Peeling skin inside the mouth can be uncomfortable, but it is important to understand that it is typically caused by benign sources. Practicing good dental hygiene, staying hydrated, and being aware of potential irritants are all effective ways to prevent and treat this problem. Taking proactive steps to improve dental health is critical for overall well-being, resulting in a pain-free, comfortable mouth.

How Do You Whiten Your Teeth at Home?
Have you ever wondered how to have a gleaming, white smile without spending a fortune or going to the dentist? You're not by yourself! Many people want to have a brighter smile. Many dental clinics provide teeth whitening treatments, which are a quick and simple process that can considerably improve the brightness of your teeth.
We've gathered a list of natural teeth-whitening methods for you to try.
Causes of Yellow Teeth
Before we get into the DIY ways, it's important to grasp the fundamentals of teeth whitening. The outer coating of your teeth, known as enamel, can discolour over time owing to a variety of conditions including:
staining Foods and Drinks
Tobacco Use
Poor Oral Hygiene
DIY Teeth Whitening Methods
The following home teeth whitening tips may be useful to you:
Baking Soda and Hydrogen Peroxide Paste
To make a toothpaste-like paste, combine a little amount of baking soda with hydrogen peroxide. Brush your teeth for a minute or two with this paste, then thoroughly rinse. Baking soda is a mild abrasive that aids in the removal of surface stains, whereas hydrogen peroxide has natural whitening characteristics.
Activated Charcoal
As a natural teeth-whitening therapy, activated charcoal is gaining popularity. It cleans the teeth by absorbing poisons and stains. You can use activated charcoal powder on your toothbrush or toothpaste enriched with charcoal. Brush softly for a few minutes, then thoroughly rinse.
Strawberries and Baking Soda
Make a teeth-whitening paste by crushing a ripe strawberry and combining it with baking soda. Apply the mixture to your teeth, wait five minutes, and then brush thoroughly. Strawberry malic acid aids in stain removal, while baking soda boosts the cleansing effect.
Oil Pulling with Coconut Oil
Oil pulling is an ancient practice that involves swishing oil around in your mouth to remove bacteria and improve oral health. Coconut oil, in particular, is believed to have tooth-whitening properties. Spit out and clean your teeth after swishing a tablespoon of coconut oil in your mouth for 15-20 minutes.
Banana Peel Rub
Massage the inner layer of a banana peel on your teeth for around two minutes. Banana peels include minerals like potassium, magnesium, and manganese, which can help whiten teeth. Brush your teeth with ordinary toothpaste and rinse after rubbing.
Apple Cider Vinegar Rinse
Gargle with a mixture of water and apple cider vinegar for about a minute, swishing it about your mouth. Natural tooth whitening properties are found in apple cider vinegar. After gargling, thoroughly rinse your mouth with water…………………………..

Dental crowns are essential when fillings are insufficient to heal a tooth. Aside from that, crown implantation is necessary to restore the shape and appearance of a fractured, cracked, or damaged tooth.
