Healthy
Growing up I have not prioritized my health as much as I should have.
It wasn't until a few years ago when I started to sleep better, drink more water, go to therapy, take supplements (the ones I need and dr said were fine), eat healthier/less junk/sugar, improve my immunity, walking, nasal breathing, intermittent fasting, and getting comprehensive routine bloodwork done and being up to date with medical/dental exams. I've done a lot to improve my health that it got to a point where I'm a bit obsessed with maintaining my health, because it makes me feel fulfilled and in control, since I'm doing something productive that is good for me. Also it's such a confidence booster to be healthy.
Then it comes to my eczema, which has unfortunately been a more challenging issue to address. Despite all the above, I do struggle with stress/anxiety, some insulin resistance, and moderate/severe eczema. I know my eczema is likely caused by gut imbalances, because my lab results showed I have the same bad bacteria colonizing both my skin and gut. And I've never thoroughly addressed my gut health in the past (it can be tricky because everyone's gut is different, there are a ton of foods and supplement that promote gut health and it can be hard to identify what's right for you, most doctors don't really talk about it as it's not something commonly taught in medical schools, and there's a lot of gimmicky unscientific stuff out there).
Unfortunately, I've been told the same things by doctors: "There's no cure, the only things that can help you are steroids, protopic, and biologics/Dupixent". I know it's a chronic and complicated condition and I don't need to be constantly fucking reminded that there's no cure. Why should I, someone who is rather healthy, have to spend the rest of my life using steroids and and self-injecting biologics? I don't get it. I worked so hard on improving my health, yet I struggle with this inflammatory disease and doctors tell me there's no solution besides relying on risky drugs. Why should I have to? It goes to show how the medical system is unfortunately designed to get people to rely on pharmaceuticals rather than to genuinely get them to take action and care for their own health. Unfortunately, there is some logic and reason to this approach as people are less inclined to be proactive in their own health. And I don't blame them because it takes time, effort, and money to take deeper care of their well-being.
As a scientist I have to always remind people that conventional medicine is important, significant and has saved a lot of people from unnecessary illness and death. I mean I work in the field myself and have dealt with personal medical emergencies in the past. When I express my disappointment in the medical industry, I'm talking moreso about the lack of approach to lifestyle and preventative medicine, not lifesaving medication and procedures like antibiotics, vaccines, antihistamines, aseptic surgical techniques, bloodwork/labwork/xrays, and emergency medicine like CPR, stopping blood loss, and defibrillators, etc... I can see both the good and bad in the industry I work in.

👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯♂️💕
The bunnies’ other jobs!
From my bunny cafe au
((I am so peeved :((( I had this all written out!! And I deleted it by accident!! Darnnnnn!!!))
Anon asked “You mentioned that some of the bunnies have day jobs so do they all have jobs outside the cafe or just a few?” (Something along these lines…again…I deleted it by accident 😔)
👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕
Diluc/‘Angel’
After his father got bored with the wine industry, he passed the whole company off to Diluc on his 18th birthday in order to shift his focus to mining. Diluc found himself swamped with all kinds of business decisions while just barely being an adult. He expanded the company and hired some very trustworthy people to handle things for him so he could finish college
When the business was given to him, Diluc and Kaeya had an explosive fight over it. Kaeya felt like he deserved to have some say in what happens to the business, he’s still a part of the family! But Diluc refused to let him in on any decisions so Kaeya packed his bags and left (not before cussing him out in front of their father, staff and business partners). He was just in a silly, goofy mood. They’re fine now, not on the best terms but they do chat and meet up for lunch on occasion.
He is filthy rich, he couldn’t spend all of his all of his money if he tried, so he doesn’t really need the job at the cafe! Kaeya got him the job because he knew his brother was stuck in a weird, antisocial funk and needed some fun in his life
Diluc loves this job, he has a great time, but it isn’t his main job. His priority will always be the family business!! If he has to quit his job at the cafe, he would in a heartbeat
👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕👯‍♂️💕
Kaeya
Kaeya was going to go into the police academy but was scouted out by a modeling agency. They had seen him at Ragnvindr company events and thought ‘well damn’ so they gave him a pretty generous deal
Kaeya makes a good living off of modeling, the tips and paycheck from the cafe. He rakes in cash pretty quickly just cause he knows how to get it. That, and his dad sends him checks every other month as well. Kaeya thinks of it as ‘I’m sorry’ money. He isn’t wrong
He doesn’t travel much for modeling, which he doesn’t mind, so he kinda just hangs around the city with a lot of free time on his hands between photo shoots. That’s why he got this job at the cafe! It gives him something to do and it’s fun as hell ;)
Albedo
Bedo is one busy bunny. He finished college early and is getting his masters degree online. He works most days at the cafe and on the weekends, he tutors other college students in bio/chem/science related subjects
(He was actually Xiao’s tutor back when he was failing chemistry!! Xiao is very thankful for Albedo’s help!!)
His dream is to become a biochemist, he’s always been interested in cells and what makes up living beings. So having a career in that field would make him the happiest man alive
His mother and sister live outside the city in a more rural area so he spends a lot of time FaceTiming the two of them! Klee is always so excited to hear about Albedo’s experiments or the people he’s met while working in such a bustling, fun city :)
Zhongli
Zhongli is a simple man! He’s a bunny waiter and an artist
He creates intricate pieces based on folklore from different cultures, focusing mostly on dragons. His favorite medium is paint, he loves painting on glass and layering the panes in order to create a 3D piece
He sells his works to galleries, shops and anyone who wants them! As long as they appreciate the story behind the artwork. Sadly…He undersells his work. He could def be making more money but he just does not desire money or material goods the way others may
So he got his job at the cafe in order to help out his dear friend Ningguang, not for money, he only planned on working there for a month or two until she got more bunnies but…he ended up really loving the people he works with :’) he looks forward to working with them now and texts/calls them outside of work to meet up for lunch or bowling (such an old man thing to do omfg)
Dainsleif/‘Sweetie’
Dain was a bouncer at another bar before leaving to come to Celestia’s! He’s good friends with Beidou, they belong to the same motorcycle club so when she was talking to him about the lack of security at the cafe/bar, he stepped in to help out
Little did he know…he’d actually become a bunny…And like it
This is his full time job now, he doesn’t have another for the time being. While he is a bunny at the cafe, he still keeps an eye out for any threats to his coworkers and has access to the offices upstairs (Ningguang’s office and the security office)
When he isn’t waiting tables, he’s upstairs in a tank top and sweatpants keeping an eye on the security cameras and talking to the other security guards through their ear pieces
Ajax
Ajax is a student who doesn’t really have much time on his hands
He mows lawns in the summer and he’s quit his job as a cashier to come work at the cafe! He mostly works night shifts his cause he’s still going to school aaaaaand he’s on his college’s swim team! He’s about to graduate so he works close with his coach to help train the others on the team
He doesn’t really want his family knowing that he skips around in a skimpy bunny outfit and fucking customers most nights but I mean…They’re bound to find out if they see him in pictures people post
Xiao/‘Tofu’
Xiao is an art student!! He wants to be a tattoo artist :)
He’s already got one sleeve of tattoos, it’s unfinished but you can’t really tell just by looking. When he isn’t at the cafe, he’s either in class or shadowing Ganyu, his best friend and tattoo artist. Their art styles greatly differ, she focuses her craft on cutesy, colored tattoos, but she is skilled. And Xiao looks up to her
Xiao admires Zhongli too, they met at the cafe and when Zhongli found out Xiao wants to be a tattoo artist he told him that once he’s licensed, he wants to get a tattoo from him :’)
Baizhu/‘Honey’
Baizhu is a (mostly) full time pharmacist, hence why he isn’t usually at the cafe
He also has a niece, Qiqi, who he babysits often. He loves her very much so he has no problem watching her! Baizhu will even bring her to the pharmacy with him when he’s swamped with work. In the break room, he has a play kitchen, coloring books and a bunch of puzzles to keep Qiqi occupied while he works :)
When he’s not at work, he’s at home resting. He has chronic pain flare ups in his back and shoulders that can make life miserable :( he has plenty of good days that outweigh the bad! And as a pharmacist, he has access to any medicine he needs to make his life easier!
Dottore(Alain)/‘Doc’
Alain’s an oral surgeon who’s a little bit….too into his job
He isn’t phased by blood or gore so he’s easily able to conduct procedures that would make other squeamish. He’ll pull teeth, put in dental implants, remove rotten tissue, any of that without even flinching
Outside of that, he works at the cafe. He wears a mask in order to avoid being recognized even though at his job as a surgeon, he’s usually wearing a medical mask anyways. It’s just a precaution
This has nothing to do with his career but he used to be a tap dancer and actor so he’d join in on local theatre shows! He helped build sets when he wasn’t rehearsing. He doesn’t have time for that anymore (which kinda makes him sadddd) but he has all kinds of theatre playlists on his phone and in his car that he’ll sing along to
Scaramouche/‘Boss’
Scara’s job at the cafe is his main job! His side job is something you may not expect from such a grump
He works at an animal shelter! In fact, he brings cats home to train so they have an increased chance of being adopted. Someone is more likely to adopt a potty trained, socialized cat than a feral cat who doesn’t know what a litter box is. So Scara brings them to his apartment for some one-on-one socializing, training and cuddling
One time he offhandedly mentioned working at an animal shelter while he was working at the cafe and sure enough, three separate customers from the cafe came by to adopt!!! Only one actually took an animal home but he was still surprised that those people had listened to him and cared enough to come by
Scara is a jerk most of the time but when he’s at home…by himself…With a lil kitten sleeping in his lap while he plays games on his PC…Yeah, he softens up a bit
So as you can see, we have a very diverse group working at the cafe! They’ve all learned a lot from each other, come to appreciate each other’s friendship and come to help each other out when one of their coworkers is in need or upset.

Prescription Passion - Ch. 3
Carolight Hospital AU
Ch 3: Dwight tries to get some rest - he doesn't quite manage, but he does get an unexpected invitation...
Chapter 1 Chapter 2
~
“So…do you have a car?”
Dwight groaned at the ceiling of the on-call room, remembering his truly awful attempt at making conversation with Caroline outside the pub a few nights earlier. He was far too old to be acting like a stuttering teenager around women – even women as beautiful as Caroline Penvenen. He’d been utterly dumbstruck at the first sight of her in the hospital canteen. She was one of the few doctors at the hospital who still wore a white coat – the dermatology clinic’s private patients liked the uniform – and with her blonde hair and incredible blue eyes he’d thought she looked like an angel.
“Pleased to meet you, Dr Enys.” The little quick of her lips and raise of her eyebrow as she’d spoken had just about done for him. He’d bungled his way through the following conversation then, as well. Judging by her attitude at the pub, she obviously thought he was a complete idiot. Just some A & E hack compared to her skilled specialist. Dermatology was a rarefied field, a cut above the ordinary, not populated by stuttering fools like him.
With a huff, he turned over on the uncomfortable mattress, hitting the overstuffed pillow. Something that hadn’t changed in the years he’d been away from the NHS – considering the purpose of on-call rooms was to allow medical staff to get necessary rest, they seemed designed expressly to prevent them. He’d slept in much worse conditions, of course, conditions that some people had to endure every day of their lives.
He hadn’t intended to spend the day in the hospital, but his new neighbours had decided that this was a good day to have their kitchen renovated. The drilling and hammering, the workmen’s loud chatter and radio turned up to too high, all combined to make it impossible for him to either concentrate on getting anything done, or catching up on some sleep, so here he was.
Except he wasn’t getting any sleep here, either. Not that he’d ever found hospitals especially restful – and having his thoughts consumed by a certain blonde, blue-eyed skin doctor was not helping at all. With a sigh, he decided to make a trip to the coffee machine; not for caffeine, of course, that was the last thing he needed, but he wondered if a hot chocolate might help. Or rather, the vaguely cocoa-flavoured warm water that passed for hot chocolate out of that machine. He couldn’t be bothered to trail all the way down to the canteen or the coffee shop in the reception, however, so it would have to do.
“Ugh, for God’s sake.” The machine had just rejected his 20p piece for the third time and Dwight could feel the beginnings of a headache coming on.
“There’s a trick to it – you have to sort of shove it upwards.” He turned to find the woman he had been both secretly hoping and secretly dreading running into for the last few days. Caroline wasn’t wearing her white coat today, and her dark red top was incredibly flattering, although Dwight couldn’t imagine that anything would look bad on her.
“Oh, er, thanks…” The coin clattered into the exit tray yet again, and he closed his eyes, wishing the ground would just swallow him up.
“Here, let me.” Caroline’s shoulder brushed against his as she bent to retrieve the coin and he suddenly became uncomfortably aware of how long it had been since he’d been in close proximity to a woman who wasn’t a patient. With a little sort of flick of her wrist, she popped the 20p into the slot and the machine made a satisfying click as it dropped into the coin collector. She held out her hand to him, and it took him a stupid minute to realise she wanted the rest of his change –after she’d entered that, she turned to him with a raised eyebrow. He thankfully managed to get it together enough to tell her what he wanted. Dwight wasn’t sure he’d ever considered pressing the button on a vending machine to be a particularly attractive activity, but it certainly was when Caroline did it.
She handed him the little plastic cup, holding the rim delicately, although the liquid wasn’t really warm enough for that to be necessary. Dwight took a watery sip and grimaced – as she turned back to the machine, he saw Caroline’s soft lips quirk in amusement. She opened the stylish-looking leather purse she’d had tucked under her arm and fished for some coins. He stood for a moment, feeling awkward, and was about to just leave when she spoke again.
“Busy day?”
“Er, no, actually. I’m on call, but my neighbours are renovating so I thought here might be a bit more…restful.” She didn’t really need to know that, but he’d blabbed it out anyway, like the awkward idiot he was.
“Really? This place? Restful?” She had a very musical laugh, tilting her head attractively as she looked back at him.
“Compared to Drillsville, at least.” He paused, trying to think of something else to say, but she beat him to it.
“Are you going to watch the surgery?”
“The surgery?” He frowned.
“Oh, didn’t you know? Francis is performing the last stage of an OOKP. The patient’s agreed the surgery can be public – for the students mainly, but there’s a few others going to observe. It was a chemical burn which caused the injury – I treated him for some of the facial scarring, and I’ve been helping with the cheek implant.” Dwight was impressed. It had taken him a moment to dredge up whatever book he’d read about OOKP in back in his student days. It was an extremely rare and complex procedure involving the implantation of specially cultivated dental tissue into a patient’s eye to restore lost vision.  Like a lot of grafts, it was developed by temporary implantation into the patient’s body –  the cheek, as Caroline had said.
“Wow.” He had no idea Caroline was involved with such work. Slightly unfairly, upon reflection, he’d assumed she performed primarily aesthetic procedures. “When?”
“In about half an hour.” Caroline bit her lip thoughtfully. “Would you like to come?”
~
“Good afternoon, everybody. My name is Francis Poldark, and I’m the consulting ophthalmic surgeon here at St. Neot’s. This is Mr Frank Worthing.” Francis – his voice muffled slightly by his surgical mask, and rendered crackly by the intercom system between the theatre and the observation room - indicated the unconscious patient on the operating table. “Mr Worthing has kindly agreed to allow you all to gawp at his surgery today for the purposes of enriching your medical education. He suffered a chemical burn to the upper left side of his face in an industrial accident, the resulting damage from which rendered him unsuitable for ordinary corneal transplant. Therefore, we will today perform the final stage of an osteo-odonto-keratoprosthesis procedure, more easily called an OOKP. Approximately four months ago, the first stages of the procedure were performed – the harvest and preparation of the complex. Scans show that it has successfully grown a new blood supply, so today we will be removing the complex from Mr Worthing’s cheek and inserting it into the eye.”
“Ew.” Dwight heard one of the students mutter. Clearly not one destined for ophthalmic surgery – or possibly any medical career at all if that was their attitude. There were many things more “ew”-worthy than sticking an implant into an eye, Dwight could tell them that for a fact.
“While we’re making sure everything is ready, I will introduce the rest of the surgical team, to give you some idea of what is involved in a procedure like this. First of all, assisting me is Mr Harry Blewitt, plastic surgeon, who will remove the complex from the cheek.” Another man amongst the virtually indistinguishable masked and gowned group nodded. “Also assisting – Ms Gloyne, ophthalmology registrar, surgical nurses Mrs Carter, Ms Edwards and Mr Daniel. And last, but very much not least, our anaesthetist, Dr George Warleggan. George, while we prep Mr Worthing, perhaps you could take our audience through your pre-operative checks, and what you’ll be monitoring as we proceed?”
“Of course…” George took over the narration, as smooth and confident as Francis – clearly, this was not the first time either of them had undertaken an educational exercise like this. Frankly, the thought terrified Dwight – he’d performed medical procedures under extremely stressful conditions, but having an audience like this…He admired their nerve; but surgeons were a different breed, far beyond even what he’d been trained to do in emergency medicine.
The surgery began, Mr Blewitt first carefully incising the patient’s cheek before removing the complex. Francis – with occasional contributions from the others – narrated the procedure in clear, simple terms, understandable to even the most befuddled medical student. Most of them were eagerly scribbling notes – Dwight was almost tempted to do so himself. There were a few other non-students in the room, aside from himself and Caroline, mostly distinguishable by their looks of interest rather than wide-eyed awe. He recognised one of them as a heart surgeon he’d been introduced to a week or so earlier, Malcolm Mc-something. The others – a younger man with fair hair, and a pretty, dark haired woman – he didn’t know.
After Francis had begun to remove the required parts of Mr Worthing’s eye – a couple of the students shifted uncomfortably – Ms Gloyne took over the narration, allowing her supervisor to concentrate. She wasn’t quite as confident as Francis, but her strong Cornish accent was engaging to listen to, and she clearly knew what she was talking about. The door to the observation room clicked open and he turned to see Elizabeth Warleggan slip in, taking a seat on the back most of the tiered benches. Catching his eye, she gave him a small smile before turning to watch the procedure, although he saw her gaze flick to her husband at his position by the monitoring equipment. George was bent over his clipboard, making the meticulous perioperative record of all anaesthetists.
As fascinating as Dwight was finding this, he still could not quite concentrate. To his surprise, Caroline had sat down right next to him on the bench, and a rather significant part of his brain was given over to the scent of her perfume, and the places where her arm and her knee touched his. Every time he glanced at her, however, she was staring into the theatre, rapt. It was only natural, Mr Worthing was her patient too. Dwight tried not to stare at her for too long, despite the way the bright surgical lights shining through the glass partition lit up her face and her golden hair.
“And that…is that. Of course, as with all grafts, we shall have to monitor Mr Worthing carefully before we can know if the procedure was a success, but we have completed today’s elements without complication and we can now begin transferring Mr Worthing into recovery. Thank you all for attending today.” A few of the students applauded, and Francis chuckled. Some of them lingered to watch the final parts of the procedure, but most began to file out, standing and stretching. The doctors all made for the door, as well, and Dwight stood to follow Caroline.
“Well, what did you think?” He almost started as she spoke to him when they got out into the corridor.
“Oh, er, very impressive. I’ve never seen an OOKP before, haven’t even read about one since medical school.”
“Me neither, but Francis is a bit of a specialist – this is his sixth, I believe.”
“Wow.” Dwight knew Francis was of some repute in his field, even at his relatively young age for a consultant, but he’d had no idea about that. Francis had practiced with a noted Professor of Opthalmology in Edinburgh for some years before returning to Cornwall, presumably he’d worked on the procedure there. Dwight made a mental note to ask him about it.
“Well, I er, I’d best be getting home. Horace is well past his walk, he’ll be driving Uncle Ray mad.” Caroline glanced at her watch. Dwight did likewise and was shocked to realise the time – they’d been in there for almost six hours! He’d been so fascinated – both by the surgery and by Caroline’s nearness – that he hadn’t noticed at all. Well, at least all the racket at home should be over by now. At least, he hoped so, since he had a proper shift in just over fourteen hours, and his sleep schedule was completely out of whack.
“How is Horace?” It was a monumentally stupid question, but for some reason he’d asked it anyway. To his surprise, Caroline smiled.
“Do you like dogs, Dr Enys?” From anyone else, the use of his proper title and surname might have seemed dismissive or overly formal, but in Caroline’s gentle tones it sounded almost enticing.
“A bit. My aunt had one, a Pomeranian named Fifi. She used to take fits whenever Aunt Mary played the piano. I don’t know if she was musically inclined or the opposite.” Caroline gave that wonderful laugh again, and a proper, wide smile which just about floored him.
“I really should go. See you around, maybe.”
“Yeah, see you.” With another quick smile, she was gone, heading back towards her own department. He watched her until she disappeared around the corner at the end of the corridor.

Prologue
Beep-beep-beep. Beep-beep-beep. Beep-beep-bee--
With a lazy swipe of your hand, you shoved the source of the irritating noise away. There’s a muted thump as the cellphone hit the carpeted floor. Snuggling deeper into the comfortable bed, you pull your pillow closer, intent on going back to sleep.
Missy Elliot’s Ching-A-Ling reverberated throughout the apartment.
Sighing heavily, you lay there, spread out like a starfish for a few precious before you shoved off the sheets and blankets, swinging your legs over the side of the bed, narrowly avoiding stepping on your cellphone. Reaching down, you retrieve the cellular device, which was still obnoxiously playing the Miss Elliot song on repeat, swiping to the left, you unlock the lock screen and press the ‘Answer’ button before putting the phone up to your right ear.
“What?”
“Good morning, good morning, good morning, sleepyhead!” A preppy voice chirped from the other end of the line, far too awake for... Pulling the phone away temporarily, you took note of the time, it’s not even seven a.m. yet.
Returning the phone to your ear, you grunted, muttering something that sounded like an affirmative, or a curse.
“I figured you’d still be conked out. But guess who’s the bestest best friend in the world and thought about you enough to bring pastries and coffee from the Donut Pub?!”
Standing up, you reach forward and yank the curtains to the side, revealing the view of the city which really never slept, people were already up, cabs driving throughout the streets, someone’s muffled voice could be heard screaming about hot dogs and newspapers.
But you’re not concerned or care about that, you’ve seen the sight enough that you’re all but immune.
Tumblr media
Twisting the handle, you push outward and the window opens. Placing a hand on the windowpane and tucking the phone against your shoulder and neck, you look down to see that it’s a pretty brown skinned woman, hair done up in bantu knots, and dressed to impress, holding a box of pastries in one hand with two styrofoam cups on top.
“One of these days, you gon get mugged doin’ that.” You yelled down at her.
“Whatever, bih! Stop spreading them negative vibes this early and buzz me up!”
“Hang on a sec!” Ducking your head back in, you close and twist the handle again, in the opposite direction, giving a little push and were gratified to note that the window remained closed. Tucking the cellphone into the pockets of the shorts that you’d worn to bed, you pad around the bed and slip your feet into some house shoes.
Hurrying down the stairs, on the last step, you hop off of it and briskly walk towards the front door and to the left is a keypad with video surveillance, showing the girl who’d been standing beneath your window and she’s shuffling in place, and there’s a circular button in the middle.
Pressing the button, you’re unfazed when it buzzed loudly. Glancing at the camera again, you see that the woman enters through the double doors and know that she’s coming upstairs. Scratching the back of your neck, you reach over and snag an empty container, using it as a makeshift door stopper and step backwards, breathing a sigh of relief when the door didn’t close. Trekking to the bathroom, which is to the right of the front door and only a short distance, you twist the knob and enter the bathroom, partially closing the door when you heard your friend enter the loft.
“That’s dangerous, I coulda been a robber!”
Rolling your eyes, you close the door, not bothering to lock it. “Then you woulda been one sorry mufucka! You know what it is, Destiny~” Opening the medicine cabinet, you pull out toothpaste and dental floss. Turning the bathroom sink knobs, you let the water run as you pull out your toothbrush from the container on the counter, popping the cap of the toothpaste and squirting some on the bristles. You go about completing your morning routine, hearing her rummage around and then the faint sounds of Nicki Minaj’s Chun-Li filled the quiet apartment. Wiping your face with a rag, you toss it into the hamper by the door and pull the door open, stepping out.
Walking into the kitchen and dining area, you see her already sitting on a stool and eating a pastry, coffee in one hand while she typed away on her cellphone with her acrylic nails.
“Just make yourself at home.” You say sarcastically, grabbing a pastry for yourself.
“Thanks, I will!” And then she beamed, because she’s an asshole. “To be honest, I thought that you’d already be up and dressed. This is the day you said that you had to talk to Stark about that all important, top secret project.”
Heart stopping momentarily, you pull out your cellphone and groaned, “Oh no, it’s the sixth.”
“Yep!”
“How did I sleep through two alarms?!”
“It’s a mystery!”
Running around the apartment like a chicken with it’s head cut off, you panicked, thought of plausible excuses but in the end called Stark a few times, only to be sent straight to voicemail. Rushing up the stairs, you find an outfit, thankfully pre-ironed and on a hanger in the closet, dress and hustle down the stairs again, digging through your purse for your car keys.
“Lock up when you leave!”
“Have fun!”
Traffic is congested, more than normal. By the time you arrive at Stark Industries, you realize that you’ve got half an hour to spare. Some higher power is definitely listening, thank goodness. Walking a bit more sedately, you flash your badge at the secretary and security personnel. Waiting for the elevator, you brush your hands down the front of your outfit and exhale. Feeling that sensation of being watched, you subtly check your surroundings and spot a handsome dude.
Unlike most wearing a suit or at least professionally dressed, he’s casual, relaxed. And totally not looking at you.
Deciding to put the thought out of mind, you return your attention to the elevators, waiting for it to come to the first floor. You need to get to the fifth floor. Again, that feeling of being watched settles over you and you look for the perpetrator but no one’s looking at you.
Now isn’t the time for a freak out.
Finally, the elevator stops and opens. The guy steps forward first, just as you do, and then pauses, gesturing for you to go first. Unwilling to look a gift’s horse in the mouth, you step on the elevator and hold the door for him to get on next, letting go once he’s inside.
“Can you hit five for me?”
Murmuring an affirmative, you do so. You expect the elevator ride to be quiet and for the most part it is, and then he half turned, glancing at you fully. There’s something about him, you can’t put your finger on it, but you vaguely recognize his face...
Then he opens his mouth, “What’s yo name, ma?” Brows pinching together, you’re about to speak, but he continues on, “I’m Erik.”
“Nonnie.” You made up the name on the spot, thinking of your favorite Netflix show.
“Forreal?”
“Yep.” Keeping your tone curt and conversation ending, you keep your gaze forward. Thankfully, he gets the hint that you don’t want to talk and when the elevator dings, doors opening, you’re the first one off. There at the end of the hall is Stark conversing with the King of Wakanda, and next to him is a beautiful black woman with a shaved head, her features severe and forbidding in equal measure. For a brief moment, you and she made eye contact and you swallowed convulsively because your libido decided to wake up with a vengeance.
‘Now isn’t the time.’
“Y/N! Just in time. Come on, let’s go, let’s go science!”
Grateful for the chance to look away because you’re likely staring at her like a pervert, “Stark, what have I told you about talking to me as if you’re summoning a dog, or any other trained animal?” You arch an eyebrow at the billionaire.
“Mmm, not to do it...unless I wanted to be hit where... You know what? Never mind. Forget that greeting. Just scratch it from your mind. Do you want to science with me? Because I think I made a bit of progress on that cubix you gave me.”
“We’re not calling it ‘the Cubix’.” You interject, already knowing it’s a losing battle.
“I would’ve called it ‘the Cube’ but even I can admit that’s horrifically blah.” Tony’s prattling is easy to block out and a necessary skill at times, unless there’s a crisis. “King Kitty, you come science with us, too.”
“You know I didn’t bring this thing to you so that others would find out about it.”
“But three minds are better than one. Plus he’s smarter than me.” Tony countered, startlingly firm, the admission surprising. “King Kitty can keep a secret. Don’t worry.”
“I do not want to cause any unnecessary conflict.” T’Challa spoke up, his voice soft, deceptively soft. You’d encountered enough people in your lifetime to know that some people didn’t need to raise their voice in order to be heard or express themselves; the Wakandan king was one such person. “If you only wish to work on this project with Stark, then it shall be respected.”
“Stark says you can be trusted, then...” You shrug. “I’ll reserve judgement. Besides, he doesn’t make pronouncements about people being smarter than him often.” Turning on your heel, you start walking and after a minute or two, the king and engineer joined you.
Walking into the lab, you see it. The... ‘I’m never going to live this down...’ The Cubix, secured in some type of container, glowing a soft blue as it shifted shapes, trying halfheartedly to escape.
Tumblr media
Though as you came closer, it glowed a malevolent red and butted harshly against the container, trying to get to you. Not looking away, you watched as it hit the same spot over and over and over again, until little cracks began to splinter one container. Crossing your arms across your chest, hiding the tiny tremors as it’s ‘mouth’ opened, revealing jagged teeth.
Teeth that you could remember ripping into your throat, tearing fragile skin, aiming to ---
“At first, I thought it was a gaseous substance, but that’s not the case. The Cubix is reactive and adaptive, with limited sentience. Wait, wait, watch this.” Tony pulled out his Starkphone, pressing some things and then AC/DC filled the lab for thirty seconds and then stopped. The Cubix turned a purple-black color before the music filled the room, though definitely more disjointed.
“See? Isn’t that amazing?”
“Amazing is not quite the adjective I would use.” T’Challa murmured, studying the Cubix. “Please tell me that this is not man-made.”
“Stark thinks it’s alien in origin. Potentially symbiotic.” You shrug. “I only partially agree. He wants to test it on other live subjects. I vetoed that idea.”
“But think of the possibility...” Tony interjected, as he often did when this topic came up. “I’m only saying we could test it out on me and me only. That could be fun.”
“Or catastrophic.” You and T’Challa echo each other. “If it is not man made, where did the two of you find this,” he flexed his ringed finger, watching as the Cubix seemed to shudder. “Parasitic symbiote?”
Tony gasped, “New name! ParaSy!”
Ignoring him, you kept eye contact with the Wakandan king, “While docking on the The Islands Of Marlburg, a strange man approached me, asking for assistance as he felt unwell. He was red faced and walking strangely, I thought he was drunk and told him to keep his distance. He did not stop and continued walking towards me so I tried to walk around him,” Shifting your shirt so that a three in long scar from neck to collarbone is visible, “Needless to say, he didn’t like that.”
“The Islands of Malburg...” T’Challa murmured, thoughtful. “Were you visiting? Is this man okay, was he the only one like this?”
“Infected with that?” You jerked your head at the Cubix, once again glowing red. “Yes, to my knowledge. And no, I rarely visit that place.”
“I see.” That’s all T’Challa said.
More sciencing was done and the Cubix stored away. Occasionally, you could feel that you’re being not watched, exactly, but observed and each time, you note that T’Challa is the one doing the staring, always subtly, so that Stark didn’t notice. He had no reason not to believe your story, but if he confronted you about it....
Thankfully, he didn’t.
“So, you work for Stark.” Erik somehow managed to make the statement sound condescending and it set your teeth on edge.
Professional, be professional, Y/N. “No. I don’t ‘work’ for Stark. We work together on certain projects. Just like I assume you work with your, err… the King of Wakanda. Correct?”
“T’Challa, please.” Hand underneath his chin, the Wakandan king watched the byplay between the two of you with interest and faint amusement, barely detectable.
Brows raising, you nodded then turned back to Erik. “You work with King T’Challa. He’s not your boss, or are my assumptions incorrect?” Erik looked like he’d swallowed lemon rinds. “Enlightening a conversation as this is, I’ve got an appointment I absolutely cannot afford to miss. So, please excuse me, gentlemen.”
“Please, do not let us keep you. By all means.”
“Yea, yea that’s right… Gon somewhere wit yo bougie ass!”
“N’Jadaka…”
Flapping your hand in a ‘boy, bye’ movement, you continue walking down the hall, “I’d do something about that patch in your beard, by the way, you look ridiculous!”
Tumblr media
Up ahead a few turns, at the end of the hall with a window view, waits a woman in her early to late thirties. As you go to pass her, she reaches out and touches your shoulder.
“I didn’t think they’d send you.”
A shrug is given in reply. “They expect results.”
“What more do you want me to do? I’ve already given Stark a sample to work with, and now he’s brought in the King of Wakanda. This is quickly escalating beyond the scope of my control.”
“Do not give me excuses.” And the woman turned to look at you. You almost want to look away, but it feels disrespectful to. “You said that you would find her in less than a month yet it’s been six months that she’s run rampant around this cesspool of a city, in this lawless country.”
“America hasn’t caught up with our level of technology, this would be so much easier...” You tried to explain, defend yourself.
“No excuses!” Your mouth clamped shut at the acidic words. “I’ve extended the deadline until the end of the year. Find her, before the Council tires of waiting and gets involved. They will not be merciful, they will kill her.”
“I know.” You whisper. “I’m sorry, Auntie...”
A hand cupped your chin, tilting your head up a bit. “Now, now. No crying, Y/N. What have I always taught you and your sister?”
“Princesses don’t cry.” You state dutifully. A manicured nail wiped away a stray tear that fell down your cheek. “Future queens are the pillar of the community, so emotions are to be controlled at all times.”
Tumblr media
“So stop this sniveling and be the Queen I know you’re capable of. The Queen that the people in the capital city, Kearmack Ait, deserve.” You clenched your eyes shut and felt a faint pressure against your forehead. “Go on, child. I’ll be back for later reports. Don’t disappoint me.”
“Of course I won’t.”
As you continued walking, heading for the elevator around the bend, you knew that you would. Disappoint her, that is, because she’d never favored you, only your twin. Up until the moment when Lesidi betrayed not only us, but the entire community...

How much does the government pay for a CPAP machine?
Sleep apnea sufferers will now have to pay $500 for CPAP machines: Winnipeg health authority. Those suffering from sleep apnea who have to use a continuous positive airway pressure, or CPAP, machine will now have to pay $500 to get a good night's sleep.
With the useful strategy, the medical professional is required to report patients with specific clinical conditions just if the medical professional thinks that a condition hinders the person's driving ability. With the categorical strategy, the clinician is obliged to report patients that have actually specified clinical problems, such as epilepsy. Numerous labs automatically put a patient on BPAP if the CPAP level needs to be increased above 15 centimeters water. Nonetheless, BiPAP is also expensive to be made use of as first-line treatment, as well as it has no distinct advantages over CPAP treatment. The capacity to change inspiratory and expiratory stress individually results in lower mean respiratory tract pressures compared to those of CPAP. In a given patient, the expiratory positive respiratory tract pressure level that have to be applied is lower than the matching CPAP degree needed to keep airway patency. Clients with claustrophobia may attempt using nasal cushions or behavioral management. If individuals really feel an experience of increased resistance to expiry, use of a CPAP system with a ramp feature is suggested.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (osa) Therapy & Monitoring.
This surgical procedure is reserved for individuals with moderate to extreme OSA. The device performs pressurized air via the nose, or through the nose and mouth, to the throat. That stress keeps the throat from breaking down throughout rest to allow normal breathing. A mask that provides pressurized air throughout rest, CPAP is a common therapy for obstructive rest apnea.
