Today I proudly celebrate 10 years of 3D modeling free 3D printable minis!

Today I proudly celebrate 10 years of 3D modeling, printing & painting D&D minis, all for free and all for the world to enjoy! It all started 10 years ago when I posted on reddit a simple black dragon I put together on Tinkercad that the local library 3D printed for me. It blew up on reddit so I made another dragon. Then I learned Blender and decided to 3D model the entire Monster Manual. From there this went from a simple hobby to now my full time profession and I'm loving it!

Thank you all for your kind words and support over the years. I was able to set up a successful Patreon, grow a small community, and model over 5000 minis! If you ever need a mini 3D printed for your games chances are I've made it. Just google "name of creature mz4250" and you'll see the free link, be it on Shapeways, Printables, Thingiverse or on Patreon directly.

OPT4048 - a "tri-stimulus" light sensor 🔴🟢🔵

We were chatting in the forums with someone when the OPT4048 (https://www.digikey.com/en/products/detail/texas-instruments/OPT4048DTSR/21298553) came up. It's an interesting light sensor that does color sensing but with diodes matched to the CIE XYZ color space. This would make them particularly good for color-light tuning. We made a cute breakout for this board. Fun fact: it's 3.3V power but 5V logic friendly.

Black Knight Armor for 30 Minute Fantasy

Armor modeled, printed, and painted by me, for use on a Rosan Knight frame. Files are available here. Currently no plans to sell these, but if you're interested, let me know.

This project started as "well, I already modeled the Black Knight's sword a few years ago, so let's use 30MF parts to make We Have the Black Knight at Home," but it quickly spiraled into "well I can also make that piece... and that piece... and that piece..." I even ended up remaking the sword from scratch, because my modeling skills have come a long way since 2021.

I didn't bother remaking the legs/feet/torso because they were close enough to the Black Knight's original design already, and they don't draw much attention compared to all the other stuff.

I nearly made a custom cape to recreate the Black Knight's iconic pose, but then I realized I suck at modeling fabric. Hence also why the bit around the neck is so much simpler in my version.

I made a slightly longer wrist joint to allow him to pull off this pose: the pose right before the Eclipse skill activates.

Why the dove? Well...

White doves have long been a symbol of love, purity, hope and honesty between others and are often seen as bringers of celestial freedom

We can see them in Sephiroth's first appearence in Ever crisis, flying above him, announcing his arrival. Also by Nomura's words, teen Sephiroth was "beautiful and pure" so, I just thought a dove would fit very well with the image I wanted to portray of him

And what do you do if a white dove lands in your hand?... Smile 😊
