Dentures OnSite Labs vs Offsite Services
Once you have made the decision to get dentures or dental implants, the next step is to decide where you will get them from. Quality, cost, and efficiency are important factors in making this choice, but most people end up going straight to a dentist, not knowing that in house laboratories are an option with a dentist. What most people don’t know is that the majority of dental offices will outsource their crafting to a third party laboratory, which in turn can reduce quality, lead to longer wait times, and increase your overall cost.
Wouldn’t it be great to check all boxes of quality, cost, and efficiency? The solution is to go straight to the source – an in house laboratory. In house laboratories are frequently overlooked when deciding on where to go when needing dentures or dental implants. The benefits of an in house laboratory largely outweigh the alternative option of a dentist’s office. Did you know Woodside Denture Centre does everything ON SITE at their lab. Here are some reasons to choose Woodside for your next Denture Implant services in Airdrie
Quality – When going through a dental office you are relying on the dentist to communicate specifically what your needs are. Sometimes these requests are not clearly captured or defined, leading to the customer not being satisfied with their dental product. When visiting a denturist with an in house laboratory, there is no broken telephone – they are able to see, feel, and clearly understand exactly what it is you need.
Cost – As previously mentioned, because dental offices outsource their work to third party labs, there are additional associated costs. These costs are passed down the line and ultimately end up increasing your overall cost. The alternative of going to denturist with an in house laboratory is it will eliminate those costs that you are incurring by going through a dental office.
Efficiency – Dental offices will determine your needs and then contact a third party lab to do the work. Why not go straight to the lab yourself? This will cut out the middleman and increase the speed of which you receive your dentures. Many changes or adjustment can be done while you wait in the chair. Relines and repairs can also be done in the same day.
Another area where in house labs differ from dental offices is the proximity in which the denturist and lab technician work. At an in house laboratory the denturist and technician share the same space working alongside each other. This leads to clearer communication and faster results. At a dental office, the dentist is relying on other forms of communication – phone, email, etc. – to communicate a patient’s needs. What if their office hours are different? What if phone calls or emails get missed? Although they sound insignificant, these are important factors to consider when choosing which approach you will take when getting dentures or dental implants. We offer dental implants service in Airdrie, Alberta to restore missing tooth & bring back your smile. Call us for dental implants now!

Are Whole Grain Food Good for Your Teeth and Gums?
Whole grains can do a lot more for your overall health and well-being other than decreasing the risks of developing heart disease or diabetes. There are new studies that suggest that a whole grain rich diet is good for your teeth and gums. Not only that, a diet is rich in whole grains decreases your chances of developing gum disease.
According to Dr. Anwar T. Merchant of McMaster University, any diet that is beneficial for your overall health has some advantages for your dental health as well. Furthermore, researchers have documented that high levels of blood sugar such as in diabetes, may increase the risk and extend of damage of periodontitis, which is a dental condition where the gums are inflamed. But since whole grains rich food can improve the body’s ability to process blood sugar, it can also help lower chances of developing periodontitis. Because of this new finding, Dr. Merchant suggest that whole grain rich diet may help prevent periodontitis.
To substantiate this claim, Merchant and his colleagues gathered dietary information of 34,000 men aged from 40 to 75 years from the Health Professional Follow-up study via a food-frequency questionnaire. They had 14-years worth of data gathered of these men where each of them had no history of heart attack, diabetes, high blood cholesterol or periodontitis at the start of the study.
In the study, about 1,897 were diagnosed with periodontitis. The men who had a diet that consists of 3 servings a day of dark bread, brown rice and other whole grain rich food were 23% less likely to develop compared to the men who ate less than 1 daily serving of food rich in whole grains.
Based on this study, Dr. Merchant suggest that whole grain and fiber intake improves glucose metabolism, which results in decreased levels of sugar in the blood. The lower blood sugar levels are reported to lessen the risk of periodontitis in diabetics. But the result of whole grain intake, which lowers blood sugar levels, may also reduce the risk of developing gum disease for people who doesn’t have diabetes.
Because of this study, Dr. Merchant recommends that 3 or 4 servings of whole grains may be ideal to lessen the risk of periodontitis.

When having dental issues like missing teeth, getting a dental implant is a wonderful solution. However, making the most of your implant requires minding your lifestyle. Everyone has a habit worth breaking. Some of these habits significantly affect teeth without your knowledge. It is very important to realize those habits that might harm your dental implant. Here are some of them.
Nail-Biting Some people have a habit of regularly biting their nails. This has a significant impact on dental health since it encourages chipping and impacting teeth. Nail-biting exerts pressure on the jaw after leaving it protruding for extended periods. Additionally, biting your nails comes with a risk of tearing or damaging the gums. You have to stop nail biting for the good of your oral health. A wonderful solution to prevent nail biting is wearing a mouth guard to prevent you from biting your nails. Alternatively, you can stop nail biting with remedies including applying nail polish making the habit unappealing, fighting stress, and therapy techniques. Grinding and Clenching Regular grinding and clenching of teeth expose them to chipping and cracking. Improving your smile requires opting for dental implants Airdrie surgery. You are also likely to suffer from muscle tenderness and joint pain. Additionally, grinding and clenching teeth encourage painful sensation during chewing. You are also likely to find opening your mouth wide hard. Avoiding teeth grinding and clenching protects your teeth and implants. Additionally, use relaxation techniques like yoga to avoid clenching and grinding. When these happen during sleep, use a mouth-guard. Limit grinding and clenching to save you from muscle soreness and tooth pain while giving you better sleep. After your implant surgery, the dentist will recommend the most appropriate way to combat grinding to protect your implants. Extreme Brushing Regular brushing is very important for good oral health. The rule of thumb is to brush your teeth twice a day for about two minutes. However, don’t brush your teeth too hard. This comes with a risk of teeth and implant damage with gum irritation. Brushing your teeth too hard puts your gum at risk or recession and inhibits efficient cleaning of teeth. To avoid extreme brushing, use a soft-bristle toothbrush while applying gentle pressure. Limit the toothbrush bristles from touching the gums at a 45-degree angle. This limits force from the brush getting to the gums. Chewing Ice Cubes Some people have a habit of chewing ice cubes. Keep in mind that tooth enamel and ice are crystals. Therefore, chewing ice cubes pushes them against the tooth leading to friction that might cause the ice or tooth to break. To avoid this risk, desist from chewing ice cubes. Alternatively, drink beverages using a straw or without ice. Regular Snacking Today’s fast-paced lifestyle makes most people have a diet that usually comprises sugary foods and drinks. This comes with the risk of developing cavities. Bacteria that form cavities thrive on food scraps in the mouth. This encourages production of acid that attacks teeth enamel putting your teeth at risk of falling out. Avoid snacking to keep your teeth healthy. Switch to a balanced meal that will make you feel fuller and longer. If snacking is inevitable, avoid those rich in sugar. After eating an occasional sugary snack, drink a glass of water to wash away any leftover food. This limits the chances of bacteria forming dangerous acid in the mouth. Using Teeth for Other Purposes Teeth are primarily for eating. However, sometimes it comes in handy for other purposes when you lack an appropriate tool. Some of the situations where people use teeth for other purposes include: • Holding items • Opening bottles • Cutting through thread These situations put teeth at risk of chipping, breaking, and jaw injuries. Avoid using teeth to open bottles, hold items, and cut things when lacking appropriate tools. This protects your teeth from costly and painful dental complications. Skipping Dental Check-up You have to visit a dentist for a dental check-up and teeth cleaning after six months. The dentist examines your teeth to detect issues early before they escalate. Afterward, the dentist takes appropriate steps to solve the issues. Perhaps you are one of those people with fear and anxiety towards dental procedures. Waiting until you have a severe dental problem is not a wise thing to do. You are likely to end up with a much worse problem that requires complex procedures to fix. Additionally, you are likely to endure more pain and pay heavily to remediate the issue. Never miss visiting your dentist to ensure that your implants are in good condition. In Conclusion Dental implants are wonderful solutions to teeth problems like missing teeth. However, making the most of implants requires understanding how to take care of them. Heed to the dentist’s recommendations and avoid habits that might be harmful to your implants.

Can You Kiss with a Dental Bridge?
When it comes to dental bridges, many individuals may have concerns about their impact on daily activities such as kissing. A dental bridge is a prosthetic device used to fill the gap created by one or more missing teeth. It consists of artificial teeth, known as pontics, which are anchored in place by abutment teeth or dental implants. While the primary purpose of a dental bridge is to restore functionality and aesthetics to your smile, it's natural to wonder if you can still engage in activities like kissing with confidence. Let's explore this question further.
Firstly, it's important to note that dental bridges in Airdrie are specifically designed to be secure and stable within your mouth. They are custom-made to fit your unique oral anatomy and are crafted from durable materials such as porcelain or ceramic. These materials are not only strong but also mimic the appearance of natural teeth, ensuring that your dental bridge seamlessly blends in with the rest of your smile.
When it comes to kissing, the good news is that dental bridges generally do not hinder your ability to engage in this intimate gesture. With proper care and maintenance, your dental bridge should function just like your natural teeth. However, it's essential to follow the instructions provided by your dentist or the dental professional near you who placed the bridge.
Maintaining good oral hygiene is crucial to ensure the longevity and functionality of your dental bridge. Regular brushing and flossing, as well as routine visits to your dentist or a nearby dental clinic, are essential for keeping your oral health in check. These practices will help prevent any issues such as gum disease or decay that could affect the stability of your dental bridge.
In some cases, minor adjustments may be necessary to optimize the fit and comfort of your dental bridge. If you experience any discomfort or notice a change in the way your dental bridge feels, it's crucial to contact your dentist near you promptly. They can assess the situation and make any necessary adjustments to ensure that your dental bridge remains comfortable and functional.
Overall, dental bridges should not impede your ability to kiss or engage in any other activities that involve your mouth. With proper care and maintenance, you can enjoy the confidence of a complete smile and the freedom to engage in intimate gestures without worry.
If you have any concerns or questions regarding dental bridges or any other dental procedures, it's always recommended to consult with a professional, such as a dentist in Airdrie or a nearby dental clinic. These experts can provide personalized advice based on your specific needs and help you maintain optimal oral health and functionality. Remember, a healthy smile is a beautiful smile.
