We know there is a poem on this bus, the #42 Loop bus from Yolo County to Sacramento.
We have been searching for it since we boarded.
We looked first to the driver, one we haven't ridden with before.
His tremendous stomach is the wooden horse that hid Odysseus and his men when they finally took Troy.
It's a line, but not a poem.
There could be a poem in the fact that no one looks at each other, except for us, of course.
We stare at random riders like film noir detectives picking out a suspect.
They get on, get off, gaze out of the windows with Please Kill Me boredom painted on their faces, the dullest dullards who ever yawned unashamed.
They've already give up.
If there is a poem there, we don't want to write it.
Perhaps there is a poem in the bus itself, after all, it is a metal, motorized penis sliding across the feminine surface of the Teeth Mother herself.
We are riding in a mobile porn movie, we are John Holmes, and maybe our pen really is mightier than our sword.
There might be something there as it does make us uncomfortable.
We'll get back to that in twenty years.
We are trying too hard, we tell ourselves.
We will never find a poem like this!
We are a rookie pinch-hitter in the ninth inning, two outs, a runner on second base, down by a run, and it's a road game.
Dennis Eckersly is on the mound, and he is young again somehow, and he is looking at us like he doesn't particularly like us.
"Hey Dennis, it's only a game, man."
Eckersly looks us right in the eye, spits on the ground, winds up, kicks, and puts an inside curve right where we loose it in our bifocals!
Man!
Dennis Eckersly pitches around our bifocals!
How can we ever find a poem about riding the #42 Loop bus when we are behind in the count for wearing bifocals and our metaphors are getting the better of us?
That is trying too hard.
Our chi is unbalanced.
We are not relaxing into the poem.
We are going to start again, close the notebook that we take everywhere, open it again and just let the poem come to us.
We are going to breathe and just let the damn poem find us.

As part of its overall national retail growth plan, L.L.Bean made the decision to expand its presence into Boston’s Seaport because of the high degree of awareness and affinity Boston residents have for L.L.Bean, in addition to the opportunities this dynamic, emerging neighborhood presents.
Another facet of its connection to Boston is L.L.Bean’s strong relationship with the Boston Red Sox, as a sponsor of the infield rain delay tarp since 2010. The new Seaport store will allow the people of Boston and beyond to experience first-hand everything the legendary outdoor retailer offers: quality merchandise, exemplary customer service, excellent outdoor programming, a welcoming shopping environment and an ethos to always do what’s right by its customers, employees, the environment and the community.
“Boston is a city that’s as passionate about the outdoors as we are,” says Greg Elder, Vice President of Stores at L.L.Bean. “We’re excited to bring the outdoor spirit to the heart of Boston at our first city store, and get to know the vibrant Seaport community.”
“For the Seaport to be L.L.Bean’s first urban location not only marks retail history, but also speaks volumes to the power of the neighborhood on a national and international scale. With L.L.Bean’s culture epitomizing all that is great about the New England outdoors, I can’t think of a more suiting city home for it than One Seaport, its waterfront views and proximity to I-93 and I-90 serve as Bostonians’ gateway to adventures outside of the city,” says Todd Norley, Vice President of Leasing, WS Development.
This will be L.L.Bean’s first urban store, its 5th retail store in Massachusetts, and its 36th retail store outside of Maine. L.L.Bean currently operates retail stores in Burlington, Dedham, Mansfield, and Mashpee, as well as a kiosk in the Prudential Center. The new store will employ approximately 25 people.
One Seaport is a marquee destination within the Seaport District. Comprised of two city blocks, situated on three acres of land in the heart of the neighborhood, One Seaport is the largest mixed-use project in the City of Boston in over 30 years. It spans 1.5 million square feet in total and represents the highest concentration of retail space in the Seaport, with 250,000 square feet devoted to shopping, dining, fitness, and entertainment. 832 modern, amenity-rich apartments, dubbed The Benjamin and VIA, sit above the retail experience.
One Seaport continues to solidify the Seaport’s reputation as Boston’s most transformative neighborhood with the recent openings of Equinox, ShowPlace ICON at Seaport, Bonobos, Kings Dining & Entertainment, Tuscan Kitchen, Mr. Sid, Luke’s Lobster, Caffé Nero, 75 on Courthouse Square, For Now, Seaport Barbers, sweetgreen, La Colombe, Scorpion Bar, The Grand, Warby Parker, lululemon and Bank of America. The growth will continue into 2018 as The L.L. Bean,C.C. Filson Co., and Peter Millar arrive. WS Development develops, owns, and manages One Seaport’s retail component. Berkshire Group partnered with Boston Global Investors to own and develop the residences at The Benjamin and VIA.

The Red Sox have a Pedroia problem
by Tim Quitadamo
You can’t really have a better start to a career than Sox second baseman Dustin Pedroia did. He won the Rookie of the Year award and a World Series in 2007, followed by the American League MVP the next season. On top of that, he was part of the team’s most recent World Series victory in 2013. His success in Boston, despite his unusually small stature, made him one of the most revered athletes in Boston sports history. Then the 2017 Red Sox happened.
It all started in Baltimore when Orioles all-star third baseman Manny Machado slid into Pedroia, injuring his knee. Pedroia has also been injury prone in his tenure with the Sox, but I digress. Red Sox reliever Matt Barnes later threw a fastball behind Machado’s head, an obvious message that he’s protecting his second baseman. This act has been part of baseball for as long as the game has existed. As antiquated as it may be, it shows camaraderie and gives a ball club something to rally around. This time, however, the opposite happened.
"That’s not me, that’s them,” Pedroia was caught saying from the dugout to Machado during the game. He later told the media, “That’s not how you handle that” in a press conference following the game.
That wouldn’t be the last time Pedroia would be part of an embarrassing story for the 2017 Red Sox. When David Price confronted NESN broadcaster and MLB Hall of Famer Dennis Eckersly for doing his job, Pedroia was one of many players to applaud in approval of Price. This incident did not confirm that Eck is looking to expose anybody on this Red Sox team, but only that the 2017 Red Sox are possibly the most overly-sensitive group of professional athletes ever assembled. And the team’s extraordinary sensitivity was led by that of their longest tenured player; Pedroia.
It’s a bad enough look to have these events happen in the same season, but a season is a long time in the MLB, and as long as you perform in the playoffs, people, and especially Red Sox fans will be willing to look past events like these. Although he has had postseason success in the past, Pedroia had an abismal .125 batting average during their 3-1 divisional series loss to a much better and more likable Houston Astros team. On top of that piss poor performance, Pedroia got so heated arguing a call early in game 4 that it got his manager John Farrell ejected. Even though I think Farrell is one of the worst managers in team history, you can’t force him to get ejected protecting you when you face elimination in the playoffs.
As a Red Sox fan, I’d like to thank Pedroia for a couple of great years and two World Series championship.
I’d also like to say to that it’s past time for him to get out of Boston.
