Rekha Gupta Promises New Beginning for Delhi Slum Dwellers

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced a new phase of development for the city's slum communities, marking a shift in the capital’s approach to inclusive urban development. During her visit to Shalimar Bagh, she launched multiple infrastructure projects aimed at improving living conditions in underprivileged colonies.

Gupta highlighted that ₹700 crore allocated to the Delhi Urban Shelter Improvement Board (DUSIB) would directly support the welfare of slum residents. She also stated that 52,000 flats, constructed over ten years ago but left unused, will now be renovated and distributed to eligible families.

She criticized previous governments for neglecting slum populations and misleading them about the intentions of the BJP government. Gupta said her administration is focused on ensuring access to basic facilities such as water supply, drainage, parks, and toilets.

In Shalimar Bagh, she flagged off a new drainage project and launched an improved water supply plan that will provide residents with water twice daily — in the morning and evening.

Earlier in the day, the Chief Minister chaired a review meeting with District Magistrates from all 11 revenue districts. The discussion focused on improving civic services, resolving land disputes, digitizing land records, and boosting disaster preparedness. She urged DMs to increase field visits and engage with citizens regularly.

Gupta reinforced her zero-tolerance policy against corruption, particularly in cases related to the EWS category, and emphasized prompt, transparent service delivery. She also directed officials to prioritize solutions to common civic problems like traffic congestion, cleanliness, waterlogging, and encroachments.

The Delhi Police has officially registered an FIR against former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and others over allegations of misusing public funds for political hoardings in 2019.
