[ad_1] GG News Bureau New Delhi, 9th Dec. The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition seeking directions to the Centre and other authorities to clear blockades on highways in Punjab, where farmers have been staging protests. The petition, filed by a social activist from Punjab, sought immediate action to remove restrictions on the farmers’ protests and to ensure that national highways and railway tracks were not obstructed by the agitating farmers. The farmers, organized under the banners of Samyukta Kisan Morcha (non-political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13. This protest began after their march to Delhi was halted by security forces. In early December, the farmers planned to march towards Delhi on December 6 but suspended their efforts after the police used tear gas to disperse the crowd. The ‘Dilli Chalo’ protest march resumed on December 8 but was again halted due to similar action from the police. Despite these ongoing disruptions, the Supreme Court declined to intervene, ruling against the petition to remove the blockades. The farmers’ protest, now in its eleventh month, continues to affect the flow of traffic and transportation across the region.     The post Supreme Court Dismisses Plea to Clear Farmers’ Blockades on Highways in Punjab appeared first on Global Governance News- Asia's First Bilingual News portal for Global News and Updates. Farmers' Protests In Delhi Today Demanding MSP Guarantee, Other Key Reforms; Major Traffic Curbs In Place
Farmers, under the banners of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (a non-political organisation) and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), have been protesting at the Shambhu and Khanauri border points between Punjab and Haryana since February 13, after their attempt to march to Delhi was blocked by security forces.
Tumblr media
From December 6 onwards, more farmers are expected to join the protest, with the march taking place daily from 9 am to 5 pm. The protesting farmers will spend the night on the road.
Farmers' Demands
Speaking to the media on Sunday, Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM) leader Sarwan Singh Pandher highlighted that the farmers have been protesting at Shambhu and Khanauri for 293 days. He criticised the BJP-led government for not engaging in any talks with the farmers since February 18. Pandher accused the Centre of avoiding dialogue and reiterated that the farmers are rejecting contract farming, instead demanding a legal guarantee for the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of crops.
A three-member panel of Union ministers - Arjun Munda, Piyush Goyal, and Nityanand Rai - had met with farmer representatives on February 18, but the farmers rejected the Centre's proposal to purchase pulses, maize, and cotton at the MSP for five years. In addition to the legal guarantee on MSP, the protesters are demanding a farm loan waiver, pensions for farmers and farm labourers, no increase in electricity tariffs, the withdrawal of police cases, "justice" for the victims of the 2021 Lakhimpur Kheri violence, the reinstatement of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013, and compensation for the families of farmers who died during the previous agitation in 2020-21. Guramneet Singh Mangat, another farmer leader, mentioned that when the first group of farmers begins its march towards Delhi on December 6, other farmer bodies from Kerala, Uttarakhand, and Tamil Nadu will also organise marches towards their respective state assemblies.

Protests rage over attacks against Hindus in Bangladesh
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The leader of the interim government has condemned the atrocities, describing them as “heinous”
Protests have erupted in Bangladesh over communal violence that has been reported following the ouster of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and the swearing-in of an interim government. Hasina resigned last Monday and fled to India after weeks of nationwide student demonstrations over a quota system for government jobs, which was criticized for favoring people with connections to Hasina’s Awami League party. The protests started peacefully but quickly turned violent, reportedly resulting in more than 400 deaths. An interim government was sworn in on Thursday with Mohammad Yunus, a Nobel Peace Prize winner known for pioneering the concepts of microcredit and microfinance, as its chief adviser – a position equivalent to prime minister. Dozens of Hindus have been injured in attacks on their homes and businesses since Hasina’s departure, according to reports in Bangladeshi and Indian media. Hindus make up about 9% of the population in Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority nation. The Hindu community has historically supported Sheikh Hasina’s predominantly secular Awami League party, which has fostered close ties with New Delhi in the past decade.

A serious crisis is brewing on India’s doorstep, and the West has a role in it
Over the weekend, hundreds of thousands of people participated in rallies in Dhaka and Chittagong, the two largest cities, to demand the safety of Hindus and punishment for those who attack them, local media reported. The protesters demanded the allocation of 10% of parliamentary seats for minorities, and the enactment of a minority protection law. Yunus has condemned the attacks against Hindus, describing them as “heinous.” He has urged students at the forefront of the protests to protect Hindu, Christian, and Buddhist families from harm. On Sunday, the interim cabinet said in its first official statement that it had noted attacks on religious minorities in some places “with grave concern.” Similar protests have taken place in neighboring India, where there is a Hindu majority. New Delhi has also set up a special committee to monitor alleged attacks against Hindus and the situation along the country’s 4,000km border with Bangladesh. Amid the spiraling violence, Indian security forces have stopped dozens of people from crossing the border. While congratulating Yunus on his appointment as the leader of the interim government, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi also called for the protection of Hindus and other minorities in Bangladesh. Protests have also been held in the US to condemn the alleged atrocities. On Sunday, around 300 Indian Americans and Bangladeshi-origin Hindus gathered at Sugar Land City Hall in Houston to protest. On Friday, a large number of people protested outside the White House in Washington, demanding justice for minorities in Bangladesh. Meanwhile, several outlets in Bangladesh have suggested that some clips shared on social media purportedly showing violence against Hindus had been taken out of context or were completely ‘false,” and were amplified by the Indian media. Prothom Alo newspaper on Sunday reported, citing a few examples, that some cases of alleged assaults on the Hindu community highlighted by Indian media were false. According to Bangladeshi media, since the government’s fall on August 5, the police have vanished from the streets, creating a law-and-order vacuum, particularly in the capital city Dhaka, where students were seen directing traffic. An AFP report noted that police had vowed not to resume work until their safety on duty was guaranteed after 42 officers were killed during the protests. However, since Monday, police resumed patrols of the capital. Where India Meets Russia: Follow and share RT India on X and Instagram

Traffic light rules in India - Updated 2024
New Delhi (India), July 5: Driving on Indian roads is challenging and requires a thorough understanding of traffic lights and signs rules. They play a crucial role in maintaining road safety and preventing accidents. Traffic signals and signs provide crucial warnings, information, and directions to drivers and pedestrians, ensuring smooth traffic flow.
The traffic light rules in India are primarily governed by the Motor Vehicles Act, of 1988, and are enforced by various amendments and regulations issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH). Here are the key traffic light rules in India:
Traffic light signals
Red light
The red light indicates ‘STOP’ for drivers. Vehicles must come to a complete stop behind the stop line.
Yellow or amber light
An amber light indicates ‘CAUTION’. This signals that the light sign is about to turn red. Drivers must stop if it is safe to do so.
Green light
The green light indicates ‘GO’. Vehicles can proceed through the intersection slowly and carefully. However, ensure to give way to pedestrians and other vehicles that are already in the intersection.
Apart from these basic traffic light signals, it is important to understand the following additional traffic light signs as well:
Flashing red light
Flashing a red light signifies the same as a stop sign. Drivers are required to come to a complete stop and should only proceed when it is safe to do so.
Flashing yellow light
A flashing yellow light indicates ‘proceed with caution’. Drivers should slow down and proceed through the intersection with caution.
Additional rules
The following are some of the additional rules to keep in mind:
Vehicles must stop before the stop line at red lights to ensure pedestrian safety and smooth traffic flow. Adhering to these rules not only helps prevent accidents but can also positively impact your car insurance rates by demonstrating safe driving practices.
Vehicles must not enter an intersection if they cannot clear it completely by the time the light turns red, to avoid gridlock.
When police officers or traffic wardens are present, their signals take precedence over traffic lights.
Many cities are adopting intelligent (smart) traffic management systems to dynamically control traffic lights based on real-time traffic conditions. Some intersections now have speed limits enforced by automated cameras.
Pedestrian signals
Pedestrians can cross the road when the walk signal turns ‘green’
Pedestrians must not start to cross the road when the walk signal turns ‘red’
In most of the cities, there is increased emphasis on pedestrian signals and zebra crossings, with stricter penalties for violations.
Penalties for violations
The following are the violations that attract heavy penalties/fines:
Red light violation: Heavy Fines or penalties on the driver’s license.
Dangerous driving: Higher fines/potential license suspension/imprisonment for repeat offenders.
Compliance and awareness
These rules aim to enhance road safety, ensure a smoother traffic flow, reduce accidents, and in urban and rural areas. Always stay updated with local traffic regulations as they can vary slightly by region and municipality. Also, ensure to avail of a comprehensive car insurance policy for complete protection.
Conclusion
Adhering to traffic light signals helps protect pedestrians and other road users, promoting a disciplined and respectful driving culture. Knowledge of traffic signs is also vital for legal compliance, avoiding fines and penalties. Overall, these signs are fundamental in creating an efficient and safe road environment.

In a bustling city like Delhi, it is not uncommon for individuals to receive traffic challans for various violations. These challans can be a source of inconvenience and frustration for many, but it is important to take responsibility for our actions and pay them on time.
According to the latest statement from the Delhi government, any traffic infractions must be addressed within 90 days of receiving the first notification for a current ticket, or within 30 days for any subsequent tickets issued after the first notification. Not complying with this timeframe could lead to a higher penalty fee.
Previously, the procedure of verifying and settling traffic fines in Delhi was arduous and took up a lot of time as it required physically going to traffic police stations and waiting in lengthy lines. However, thanks to technological progress, the process has become more effortless - you can now conveniently check and pay your traffic fines through online means.
If you have several pending challans associated with your name, all of them will appear on the website when you provide your vehicle number. Be sure to settle all the outstanding challans to prevent any potential inconvenience in the future.

[ad_1] Paromita Das GG News Bureau New Delhi, 3rd December- The Delhi borders are once again a flashpoint as farmers from Uttar Pradesh gather to press for their demands under the new agricultural laws. The farmers’ “Delhi Chalo” march, led by Bhartiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) leader Sukhbir Khalifa, has caused significant disruptions in the Delhi-Noida region. With thousands of protesters descending upon the area and blocking major routes, the issue has rekindled debates about the effectiveness of the government’s approach to resolving agrarian concerns. The Farmers’ Demands: A Cry for Justice The core demands of the farmers highlight their dissatisfaction with the implementation of agricultural policies. These include increased land compensation, better rehabilitation measures, and the withdrawal of legal cases against protesters from previous agitations. Their grievances point to deeper systemic issues within the framework of land acquisition and agricultural reforms. One of the most pressing demands is for enhanced land compensation. Farmers are advocating for a 64.7% increase in compensation under the revised land acquisition law, arguing that the current rates fail to reflect the true value of their land. Additionally, they seek a 10% allocation of plots from acquired land, ensuring that the displaced are not left without a means to rebuild their lives. The call for employment and rehabilitation benefits further underscores the plight of landless farmers whose livelihoods are at risk. By demanding jobs for their children, they aim to secure a more stable future for their families. Their insistence on implementing directives from the High Power Committee on agricultural policies highlights a lack of trust in the government’s promises. The Protests: A Recurring Nightmare for the Capital The protests have brought parts of Delhi-NCR to a standstill. Despite heavy security measures, farmers broke through barricades and blocked major highways, causing massive traffic jams. The DND Flyway and Chilla Border witnessed gridlock, leaving commuters stranded for hours. Police efforts to manage the situation included route diversions and intensive vehicle checks, but the scale of the protest overwhelmed the infrastructure. The visuals of farmers sitting on roads and breaking barricades evoke memories of the 2020-2021 protests. These earlier demonstrations lasted for over a year, resulting in significant economic losses and disruptions to daily life. The government’s inability to prevent a recurrence has raised questions about its preparedness and commitment to addressing farmers’ concerns. किसान दिल्ली की ओर बढ़ रहे हैं pic.twitter.com/zk8F6qI6Y1 — Ranvijay Singh (@ranvijaylive) December 2, 2024   Government’s Response: Security vs. Dialogue The government’s immediate response has focused on security. A three-layered barricading system, involving over 4,000 police personnel in riot gear, has been deployed to prevent protesters from entering the capital. While this demonstrates a determination to maintain law and order, it also highlights the lack of a long-term solution. The detention of farmer leaders and the closure of key roads reflect an adversarial approach that risks escalating tensions. Critics argue that the focus should instead be on dialogue and addressing the root causes of the unrest. The prolonged nature of past protests serves as a cautionary tale, emphasizing the need for proactive engagement rather than reactive containment. The Larger Implications: Economy and Public Sentiment The economic implications of such protests cannot be ignored. The disruptions caused by road blockages and route diversions impact commerce and daily activities in the national capital region, one of Bharat’s economic hubs. The 2020 protests cost billions in lost productivity, and a similar trajectory could severely hinder post-pandemic recovery efforts. Moreover, the protests are a reflection of the growing disconnect between the government and rural communities.
The farmers’ demands, particularly regarding land acquisition and employment, resonate with a broader audience concerned about equitable development. Failure to address these issues could erode public trust and exacerbate social divides. Striking a Balance The recurrence of farmer protests is a clear signal that the government must revisit its approach to agrarian policies. While security measures are necessary to maintain public order, they should not overshadow the importance of dialogue and compromise. The farmers’ demands, rooted in their lived experiences, deserve a fair hearing and actionable responses. The solution lies in creating a framework that balances developmental goals with the rights of those affected by land acquisition. Policies must ensure that compensation and rehabilitation measures are not only adequate but also implemented transparently. By addressing these concerns, the government can mitigate the risk of future protests and build a more inclusive development model. Conclusion: A Crossroads for Bharat’s Agricultural Policy The ongoing protests at the Delhi-Noida borders are a stark reminder of the challenges Bharat faces in reconciling development with social equity. The government’s handling of the situation will set a precedent for its approach to agrarian issues in the future. By prioritizing meaningful dialogue and addressing the legitimate concerns of farmers, the administration has an opportunity to transform a crisis into a catalyst for reform. The stakes are high—not just for the farmers but for the nation as a whole. Resolving the protests in a manner that respects the rights of all stakeholders will be a testament to Bharat’s commitment to democratic values and sustainable development   The post The Resurgence of Farmer Protests: A Crisis at Delhi-Noida Borders appeared first on Global Governance News- Asia's First Bilingual News portal for Global News and Updates.
