In the January 2023 Nanba Kazumi no Idol Sanjuuroku Bou Tokubetsu Hen (with Sakura, Fukuchan, and Dekami-chan), Sakura said that Chii was someone that was constantly laughing. She talked about how Chii pretty fearlessly went into that study abroad program without looking back (and was ribbing other members to join her to the last minute). Now, granted that I haven't watched much DM footage, but I don't know if that's an impression that fans had!

So it seems like Chii is someone that had a lot of sides that she didn't show to the camera much (or said sides were consistently not making the editing cut).

And the 2018 Kwon Yuri Not-Oshi-But-I’m-Fascinated Award goes to Morito Chisaki! Chii had “overhyped management-favored frontgirl” written all over her, so I was a bit pre-disposed not to cut her any slack, especially since I was neck-deep loving how savvy the rest of CG was. She had her moments relative to the rest of H!P (mostly in calling Honey out lol), but it was clear that going for entertainment broke didn’t come as naturally to her as the other Dictator Ducklings. Then, in MM, she initially had some moments with good potential, notably her sudden reaction to being singled out by Sayu, but those quickly faded. I chalk this up to Chii being a very, very self-aware kind, and she defaulted to an accommodating type, playing along with what shenanigans her fellow members would drum up, but rarely instigating. None of this is really an issue for a “management-favored frontgirl” type, as holding a little back is key to frontgirl enigma appeal. Curiously, though, and I’m thankful for it, the actual “overhyped management-favored frontgirl” never fully manifested, besides her being a single-member gen, and being given the white member color, of all things (still salty about that!). Yamaki and Funaki became the anchors for CG’s vocals post-Momochi, and Chii didn’t become the fourth MM frontgirl, also likely due to vocal quality. This didn’t exactly help my interest in her, as any supposed hype about comparing her to Riho from indies was not showing up in the performance clips I saw. It was all too easy to keep paying attention to my usuals, and not branch out. But, that being very, very self-aware was making itself known in the non-performance clips. Chii looks like she’s thinking very hard about how best to act in these situations at all times. She doesn’t have the instincts (or she suppresses some of her instincts to go with the flow), so everything has to be calculated with effort. I have to respect that. A lot of girls don’t do that. They continue to go with their own instincts, not re-calibrating and learning anew, or falling back on a non-shenanigans-based image. But Morito continues to show potential and improvement. Perhaps we’ve currently got a seniority issue, and she’ll be able to better show her entertainment chops when she’s not deferring to seniors all of the time. Still, even after my interest was building off of the stage, I remained “aggressively meh” about her performances on it. She’s not bad, by any means, but she just didn’t stand out next to her fellow members. Not even in NYC. But DAMN, I was bowled over by her Summer Dance Club showing, and Honeygrad showed that Chii is likely in the middle of that same transition Kamiko (previous winner of this award) went through, of finally getting a handle of facial expressions, and it’s doing wonders for making me pay attention to her. (Seriously, that Dance Club bit is like the only time I’ve seen a H!P girl who might be able to dance light-bodied like Captain.) I expect that, in the long run, she’s gonna do some mighty slaying.

♪ E-chan-sensei ♪ Today, E-chan-sensei taught me about singing. So I can sing maturely. The parts that I can't do, She shows me how to sing them :)

A little bit ago, "When you're Ankensen, you take the power from that role, and the sounds that you can't normally get, you get and you sing well! So, when you're an idol, also remember Ankensen! Don't forget her." E-chan-sensei told me that. It's easier to hear my voice than when I'm Maria! Singing is easy! I also have to remember that. Ankensen's power is amazing!!!!!
