I almost forgot to share it here! Finished my Siffrin cosplay! I wore it for a local Convention yesterday! Really like how it turned out!

Since I knew no people would recognize the Siffrin cosplay at the Con, I decided it was better to promote the game a little! So I made some cards!

The QR code leads directly to the spanish steam page of In Stars and Time! So I gave it to as much people as I could! Two of them even told me that they where going to check it out, so that's really nice!

Also, since I went alone to the Con and I don't like taking selfies that much I didn't get much photos, but you can have the only selfie I took that I actually kind of like

Not sure if you’ve discussed this before but have you seen the “Willyacos” Six costumes on Amazon? They’re obviously cheap knockoffs and not anywhere near the same quality as the actual costumes, but seem like a good middle ground between the Simplicity costume patterns and no kidding making a full on replica costume (for at least most of them… the Howard skirt leaves more to be desired, same with the Parr pants)

Better known as the infamous aliexpress costumes. Basically like with most pieces of popular media a (most likely chinese) costume factory takes whatever photos come up first in google search and makes the costume in the cheapest, fastest way possible, that still looks close enough to the photo. The six ones can be currently found from a few different amazon sellers and at least an aliexpress one.

I'm not saying they are good, or legal, but they are definitely better than the simplicity pattern. As much as some people defend the simplicity as a good beginner friendly alternative it is not good aside from maybe the boleyn skirt. You will be better off combining other preexisting patterns and easy tutorials (I could make a list if there is interest in this). The amazon/aliexpress at least aknowledge its six characters, that Cleves is red and not silver and has only shorts and that Parr has full lenght leggins.

Honestly it is a you get what you pay for, those costumes are cheap and in no way you can make something close to the stage costumes for that money (also if you ask me some are overpriced). But if it is for a halloween costume, for a group with friends, to go see the show in costume, go for it. The main point of dressing up is to have fun. And if doing the (not simple, fast, or cheap) whole costume making process is not your thing that doesn't mean you can't have fun dressing up.

Like you mentioned a lot of things leave a lot to be desired. But its more like quality is all over the place. I've seen some people who bought the costumes and from what I can tell. Aragon is a great deal for the price, it has the cutotut design printed, plastic stud trim and spikes on the shoulders (I've seen official kids disney princess costumes with less accurate details). Seymour is not bad but it has no tabs on the back and has rhinestone trim instead of studs or pearls. The other four are the old designs and look not great (there is another amazon store with much better boleyn and parr costumes).

In a way I don't support those costumes, they are profiting out of copyrighted material and doing it badly. But in this house we don't gatekeep cosplay. The point is having fun. So here are a few very low budget ways you can make those costumes look better.

First of all accesories, get a good pair of fishnets and layer them over skin toned tights, get a cheap karaoke mic and decorate it, spike pracelets for crowns, find some makeup tutorials and do a cool look, look into current and former queens with a simmilar look to you for hair inspiration. There are many things that make or break the look, if you don't have the most detailed costume lean into the others.

Then some cheap ideas for things you can add to improve the look: buy a half pearl trim similar to what the aragon costume has to add in place of studs, half plastic pearls for the loose studs on the cutouts, mesh if you want to add fake cutouts, strass rhinestone tape makes a great replacement for crystals for the boots (I'm actually working on a tutorial for removable straps with this). Add cheap boning to the skirts and sides of the tops for better structure (sewn if possible otherwise colored tape can do wonders). Craft stores sell gold and silver chains that you can add to A/S/C, a well shaped B or K even if it is painted cardboard finishes those looks. Costumes bought online aren't the best but that doesn't mean you can'd improve them.

OKAY SO i said yesterday that i would make a post about how anime weekend atlanta went, so... basically it was a bit of a mixed bag because while i got to see tons of cool cosplays and merch and go to some neat panels, we (as in me and my dad who was traveling with me) ended up not only having car troubles the entire weekend but also had some absolutely ridiculous problems with ordering food. just as an example, one night we ordered a pizza and it took 3 hours to arrive and we never got told there would be any kind of delay 😭 BUT i will go ahead and share my cosplays and then list off some good things that happened! i'm slightly embarrassed about posting my face on here since i've never done that before but here goes:

i was edward elric on thursday and friday at AWA and lilia vanrouge (pop music club version) on saturday and sunday! i did a bunch of thrifting and DIYing (and pulling things i already owned out of my closet for lillia lmao) for both of these and i am especially proud of that automail glove. i also went to two twisted wonderland cosplay photoshoots on both saturday and sunday which was definitely fun, and i met todd haberkorn while in my ed cosplay and got him to autograph the same fullmetal alchemist artbook that i've previously had signed by caitlin glass! i also bought a handful of silly little trinkets and i will put photos of all this other stuff under a cut so people who don't care don't have it clogging their dash too badly.

^ the photo i took with todd haberkorn + the artbook cover he signed. you can see where he signed his name right over ling and where, when i met caitlin last year, she signed her name right over winry. i met him once before but it was literally 10 years ago and it was great to be able to meet him again. he told me he thinks ling deserves his own FMA spinoff, and i very much agree with him.

and uhhh i think that's all i feel like sharing on here?? i wish i had gotten to go to more panels but the various unexpected issues i had throughout the con kept me from having the time to go to many, although the ones i did get to see were great. there was one where a nuclear propulsion plant operator and NASA software engineer graded various sciencey anime on how good or bad their science was and did a very thorough examination of whether or not the premise of planetes--a screw hitting a spaceship, putting a hole in it, and taking out an intercontinental suborbital flight--was plausible. he concluded that it is and gave the overall series an A+ for scientific accuracy, and i've never seen this show but now i want to.

AnimeExpo Recap Day 3-4!

AnimeExpo is over and it’s good to be back home! Although day 3 and 4 definitely much slower compared to the running around I did the first two days. I went to bed day 2 wondering what else I could possibly do. I feel like I saw what I wanted to and bought what I wanted to, and really made the most of my time. Somehow, I found a way anyways.

I realized I didn't do Yokura's Honkai Star Rail trash rally! 12 artists had a free sticker to give out on a card (on the bottom right) and once you got 6 you can come back for a free clear fil- erm, 5* light cone! It was really fun to run around artist alley with some purpose and seeing all the other artists with Honkai merch! I got a sticker of her OC Mofuko and slapped it on my water bottle and ended up picking up some prints from Belindraws during the rally! The Black Rock Shooter really sucked me in. (╯✧ ∇ ✧)╯

Funny story about the water bottle, I actually applied the sticker at Yokura's table but lost the bottle sometime at the beginning of Day 3. Near the end of Day 4 I coasted back at her table and there it still was, in a corner very out of the way and hidden but just sitting on her table... oops. She didn't notice either but I still feel like a menace. I'm honestly very surprised it didn't get swiped!

McDonalds had a booth there and I was very confused! So confused in fact that I just got in line for the hell of it to find out! It seemed the primary purpose was for cosplay photoshoots, having a mock drive through window, birthday table and ordering counter all to pose behind with staff helping with photos. You're given a poster and a pin for your time upon exiting. Seeing a Zero Two and Luffy posing behind a birthday table filled with McDonalds jargon was an experience. It also wasn't until the very end of the last day that I notiecd a giant Grimace behind the entire stand... oh no. ＼(º □ º l|l)/

Day 3 was also the only day I went out and ate real food! Most of my meals were Doordash sandwiches, Chipotle and the like but a handful of friends got together for some JBBQ! There's a nice little place not too far from AnimeExpo called Gyu-Kaku that has gluten free sauces and seem pretty good with not killing me (I have celiac) so it's sort of becoming a tradition to eat here at least once when in the Downtown LA area.

Let me tell you something about myself; I love figurines. It's a trap I constantly struggle with NOT falling into. There are so many cool anime figures but it's such a financial trap when I'm already losing to my game collecting and skeb addiction. Yet somehow, I'm slowly slipping farther into getting nendoroids and model kits. Model kits are so hands on so it's like an activity and nendoroids are so flippin' cute and both of them are WAY cheaper than most figures. SO WHEN I SEE AN ADVERTISING SCREEN WITH THIS MIKU FACE ON IT,

I caved. I even did a good job staying away from the Good Smile booth knowing I'd get suckered in day 1 and 2 but this was mostly helped by the fact that it had a large line. Day 3 there was no line to be found. BUT LOOK AT HOW CUTE SHE IS. The prices were also completely fair too. I rarely buy these sorts of things from cons because the prices get jacked up and they're cheaper online, but this was a non-issue buying it directly from Good Smiles booth. I love them.

And those are the main things that come to mind that I can accompany with pictures! There are other stories I'm excited to share on stream today that don't have photos. Needless to say, it was really fun and I'm looking forward to a AX 2024! But for now, I'm just happy to be home. It's been a very busy last month and AnimeExpo marked the end of being so busy. So really, I just can't wait to focus on streaming and personal projects.

I did actually spend a 5th day in LA and went into Little Tokyo! While it was brief, I did spend way too much on Japanese chips and snacks! I have this cute idea where I set up a handcam on the side and open every stream with a new snack sampling and review. I'll see about showing off all the different snacks I got next post! (ง'̀-'́)ง

What can I say? My first convention; I'd say I'm a pretty closeted anime fan, so this is something definitely new for me. I definitely enjoyed it though.

I went to Idolfest (my favorite of all):

I must say, the last girl really knew how to dance. Plus, it was Eurobeat, so I couldn't stop myself from getting so hype. The rest of the performances were fire as well, it's just the last one blew me out of the water. It's one of those things where you just want to absolutely head-bang to it.

I didn't get it on video, but she did a NASTYYYYYY body roll that had everyone screaming near the end.

I also went to Artist Alley:

Got some prints of the best video game series ever: Yakuza. On the left is Kiryu and on the right is Majima. They are both legendary in their own ways, and I guess you will have to find out why by playing the actual game. The art style was really cool also, placing them alongside their respective symbols.

I would've gotten bigger prints, but I was already extremely broke from spring break, so I had to settle for less. Although, I did get a pair of horns from a shop.

I saw the best/worst Vocaloid concert ever:

Don't get me wrong, it's cool. It's cool to see a bunch of other vocaloid fans packed in the same room, listening to the same niche genre of music. However, it was just a 2D projection of a video (I kinda managed to turn down the exposure and make it look cool?). It's no different than me just linking a video of:

I know I shouldn't expect too much, but somewhere in my heart I really wanted there to be some crazy 3D projection that they set up in the grand ball room to absolutely blow us away.

That's it. It's just R2D2 with me repeatedly saying "o." I was cool to see something more on the Geek side than the Otaku side.

Some Analysis:

While there wasn't millions of Doujinshi stalls scattered everyone along the Reitz, we can still see the Otaku traits in action. For example, the cosplays. I bet there were more cosplayers than actual non-cosplayers there. Each of them did it on their favorite characters in a different way, and we can really see how they managed to refictionalize a fictional character.

Additionally, the Moe elements. Remember when I was fangirling over that eurobeat dance? The way that woman was dressed up, it was definitely to appeal ot the Moe elements. The knee high wide socks, the short plaid skirt, headband... They combined a bunch of elements that people like into an outfit for the otakus to enjoy.

Not to mention, my prints. The Moe elements in this case were the symbols and the character's physiques. Their respective symbols is a big part of what makes the whole franchise "cool." Also, their muscular physiques also attract a lot of other men who maybe want to participate in the guise of a hegemonic masculinity, not to mention that their clothes are also what makes them appealing. Not give the wrong idea though, the majority of the game does not depict the characters as this "super macho" hegemonic masculinity, it only does that through the main story. The rest of the game show them as being tender and kind.

Also, the acceptance of queerness was clear throughout the whole convention. Nobody batted an eye. It was cool to see something in theory, that Otakus can distinguish from fiction and reality, hobby and self, play out in a setting like this.

Overall, I'm definitely doing this again.

honestly she just does this because she genuinely enjoys cosplaying and bringing characters to life.

she definitely gets a lot of trolls in her chat that make fun of her for her cosplays and "dumb" way of speaking.

she really does care about how people see her but her chat comforts her a lot after, so she feels better after a few minutes :))

the games she plays are very fantasy based and take place in worlds that don't exist.

once she gets into a game, she'd pick her favorite character and cosplay as them everytime she streams that game.

Kurogiri likes bees and he turns into a beekeeper. He buys a house some time away from the city, where he can be at peace.

Mr. Compress let's Toga decorate his prosthesis with stickers. They clean it after certain time so she can decorate it all over again.

Spinner teaches Tomura how to drive every Friday in an empty parking lot. The kids from class 1-A take turns going with them and they record the whole thing. People is really into that, specially when they get Bakugo screaming at both of them for being terrible at driving. After every session, Tomura buys them ice-cream and they sit around while he asks what have they been doing at UA.

Dabi goes with Natsuo when he decides to get his first tattoo. Actually, they end up getting matching tattoos as a promise to never get apart again. Shoto wants one two but Fuyumi is making him wait until he's 21 years old.

Eri once sees Toga smiling and she goes to hug her, telling her that crying is okay too. Everyone goes deadly quiet as Toga suddenly cries a little, hugging Eri back. The girl who can't smile is smiling and the girl who can't cry is crying. And they're doing it because they're happy.

Dabi and Shoto take turns mocking Bakugo while Shigaraki and Deku take turns defending him. Which is really funny because them you have Toga and Uraraka pointing out which team is winning.

Bakugo gets to punch everyone at least once. At least people stop him before he goes against Toga and Uraraka. That'd be a hell of a fight.

The girls at class 1a and class 1b adore Toga and they always invite her when they're going out. Tomura drives her to the place and gives her money to buy ice-cream.

Speaking of which: have you ever thought about Kirishima punching Dabi and Shigaraki just once for kidnapping Bakugo and then going "okay, and now let's hug".

Spinner is like a big brother for the whole class 1b. They are always calling him for advice and help. Once they all decided to cosplay him for Halloween and he almost cried.

Hatsume gets all excited when Compress asks her if she can do a prosthesis for him. He let's the kids at UA create him support tech that he tests. He finds it pretty funny.

Eri tests her power on Dabi every few moths to keep his body from going worst. He messes her hair every time, pointing out how cool is her horn. She reminds him a lot of Tomura and that makes him a little nostalgic.

They find pics of Tomura as a kid by pure luck. He's with his sister and his mother and his grandparents, his father taking the photo. They also find the photo of Nana with Kotaro. Tomura let's All Might keep that one.

When Tomura first meets Momo it hits him how much she reminds him of Hana. He's ashamed at first but eventually he tells the class about his sister. The girls are nicer to him after that and so are the boys.

Rei invites Toga and Tomura for dinner every few weeks. Toga and Shoto are somehow friends, because they can rant about Deku and not understanding people. Since the first meeting, Natsuo became sort of friends with Tomura because they are the same age.

Natsuo invites Tomura to sport games and to the cinema sometimes and Fuyumi worries, but after some time she realizes Dabi is right. Tomura is not a danger to Natsuo.

Spinner joins them after a while. They are not like a crazy trio ranting about sports and movies. Spinner even finds a way to take Natsuo to the gym with him and now they train together.

Tomura and Dabi sometimes disappear together at night. They're on the roof, watching the stars. Those nights when they're feeling raw and violent, they prefer to go with Kurogiri and stay there for some time. Those days are hard, specially because it's easy to miss the friends that did not make it out alive, but they have each other and they hold tight together.

Mr. Compress helps the following years with the cultural festival. Everything is colorful and dramatic and lovely. He is like the special guest. Kurogiri visits the city those days.

Inko finds herself protecting Tomura more than once, mothering him about his scratching and scars. He's constantly eating with the Midoriyas.

Toga and Monoma become besties and no one knows who that happened. She spents a lot of time around class 1b. She also teaches Shinso how to become invisible. Present Mic gets kinda nervous but Aizawa finds it interesting. Well, that kid stabbed him once, she's good. Shinso can learn a bunch from her.

Kurogiri starts helping Fuyumi with teaching kids somehow too. He's really patient and kids adore to play around with his misty form. Fuyumi finds him reliable and responsible. Who would guess they'd find comfort in each other.

Tensei, Iida's brother, gets help from Natsuo with his therapy. Iida and Deku get Melissa Shield to help him with new tech support. He finds a way to work as a minor hero again, and he trains a lot with Compress, both of them trying to regain more mobility.

The best day of Tomura's life is when Stain recognizes he was right. Also? Iida and Tomura bonding over hating Stain? Think about the possibilities.

Tomura teaches Uraraka how to win money online playing games. She's AMAZING at that. Dabi and Shoto secretly gives her a lot of money on her streams. Dabi because he can waste Enji's money and Shoto for the same reason, plus she's her friend.

Tsuyu and Spinner bonding over the stress of their friends being morons. Also they enjoy each other's company a lot.

Dabi and Denki and Cami speaking in memes and only Present Mic is able to translate.

Tomura and Uraraka bonding over not being able to touch things with all their fingers.

Dabi and Sero doing pranks with Sero's tape.

Dabi is definitely a bad influence for class 1a. And even a wrost influence for class 1b.

Tomura is not better but at least he teaches them important stuff.

Dabi will deny to his death that he likes those kids. Tomura teases him constantly.

Toga has a secret account to post stuff about Tomura and Dabi and how they are secretly in love. Class 1a and class 1b join. Soon they're losing their shit all the time around them and they both are angry because they don't know what's happening.

And then class 1b makes it a competition because they ship Spinner and Shigaraki better. It is a naive game, Tomura can't be mad because it's really chaotic, but he asks them eventually to tone it down because they're crossing some limits.

Dabi and Spinner are clueless.

Kurogiri says he ships Tomura with happiness when they ask him.

Then proceeds to say he adores Spinner.

Shoto gets insulted in behalf of his brother and he gets Compress to say he prefers Shigaraki with Dabi.

When they officially asks Shigaraki, he send the meme of "Both? Both. Both is good". Next day Vlad King and Aizawa has to endlessly ask them to stop laughing in class. Specially when Tomura walks in wirh the biggest smirk ever.

Obey me! Boys x gn! Mc who is a professional artist. I try to be vague about what sort of art you make so that anyone can fit in. As well as what your goals are as a professional artist. This could be someone who just posts art online, does commissions, whatever. I put in some gallery shows cuz those are fun to think about.

Lucifer

- he saw on your file that you did art, but wasn’t really thinking too much about it. Though when you arrived to your dorm you were greeted with a set of art supplies. A nice sketchbook, a couple pencils and pens. As well as rather high end paint set and brushes. He will never bring it up.

- if you do art out where others can see he’ll try to get a look as what you do, but if you’re private about it he would be respectful. Lucifer doesn’t enjoy when people step over his boundaries, and wouldn’t want to do that he you. He knows enough about artists to understand that ones work is personal.

- when he does get to see what you make he will be internally blown away, but outwardly just ask questions about your process. Trying to figure out if there is symbolism you are drawn to, or what you were trying to capture. There is always a little more to art than just the subject.

- if you want to continue being a professional artist in the Devildom he would be a great support. Would give you advice on who to contact and what venues would be best for your work. He seems to have had the information all prepared. He wouldn’t flex his power too much because he wants this to be your own effort, but is happy to help if you want it. 

- At shows he’s a an easy presence besides you. Though he likes to be admired. he knows when to step back at let you shine. If nerves catch your tongue or the social work becomes to much. Lucifer will step in with smooth answers. He knows your work backwards and forwards. So can easily answer any question a patron might have. 

Mammon

- “oh you should draw me!” It’s up to you if you actually do, but that’s one of the first things out of his mouth when he learns you do art. He does have a pretty face, and would make a good life model....

- Doesn’t verbalize that he thinks your art is cool, but he does want to see every little thing you make. Finds even your doodles to be mesmerizing. So if you’re do art while he’s around be prepared for him leaning over your shoulder to get a good look.

- If you’re trying to make money off of your art Mammon is extremely helpful. his sway over people’s spending could magically get people to be interested in you, but he’s also just good at setting prices. He will not stand for you setting your prices too low, and will come after people who try to skip out on paying.

- Will try to get your art hung up in every establishment he has a connection too. Not every place will be your vibe though so you get to choose where your art actually ends up.

- Though his room style is more modern minimalism. He has several of your pieces framed around his room. A couple you were sure had been sold...

Leviathan

- as a proud otaku he knows how to treat artists right 👏🏻👏🏻 if he wants you to draw something for him he’s gunna tip out of his ass. Leviathan has definitely worked with artists before. Commissioning cosplay, or fanart, and each time he tips outrageously. So be prepared for what he might do to try and impress you.

- Initially gets a little over eager with the commissions, but is able to figure out that.. you might want to do some art just for fun. Or enjoy other things too. Talk to him and he’ll relax. He just wants to support your beautiful art!

- really loves it when you show him what your working on. Especially when you show sketches or work in progresses. It makes him feel really special to see the unfinished product. Being trusted with your genuine ideas and imperfect thoughts means a lot to him. 

- if your art is story based at all. He will want to hear All about it. Might say it reminds him of anime’s he’s watched but he means that as the highest compliment. Your idea are just as good as his beloved shows. Your ideas might even be better because he gets to love the person who made them.

- If you have an art show... He will leave his room for you. He will look so dashing, but so uncomfortable. There with you as long as you need him, but if you are fine on your own he might hang out in a corner. Or go home early. 

-When you get home he will make it up to you✨

Satan

- He isn’t going to push you to show off your art if you don’t want too. Even if you are drawing in the same room as him. He just can’t see himself being able to interrupt you. Your focused expression is delightful. Though curiosity will eventually get the better of him if you don’t show him yourself.

- Once you do he is captivated. His face is still calm and collected. Expect for his eyes which are wide and sparkling. If you let him he’ll spend a full hour looking at just one of your pieces. Satan will try to spot every little detail, and see how it all comes together. Both as a reflection of what your are trying to capture but also you. What he see’s only makes him more captivated. 

- Asks good questions about what you’re working on, as well as complimenting by comparing to other artists in the realms. You had no idea what he meant when he said your worked reminded him of the great Venia the Dark Slayer. So he showed you his books on Devildom artists. You were surprised that Venia the Dark Slayer really did have something in common with your work. Weirdly enough. He also has sections for earth and the celestial realm artists. You are more then welcome to look through them whenever you like.  

- When you’re not around he talks about your art a lot. Always so proud of the latest piece he saw you working on. Satan conveniently forgets that some of his friends are gallery owners. He won’t sign you up for any shows without your informed consent, but he definitely help you get shows much easier.

- Whether he helps you get the show or not. He wants to help set up. His eye for detail makes hanging all the frames easier, as well as making good labels for the work. Whenever you can’t come up with a name for a piece. he’s pretty good at coming up with something clever. 

Asmodeus 

- Also going to lean over your shoulder to see what you’re making. Then is absolutely captivated by what you’re able to make.

- ART DAY! Asmo wants to be creative with you as much as you’re willing for. So you’ll both take up a table and have your art supplies shared in the middle. Asmo is planning his never dress design, or possibly a make up look he’d want to try. Stops to talks to you a lot. Wanders the room and ends up against you to peak at what you’re working on again. 

- He’ll ask for your opinion on his outfits and make up, as well as any other creative project they’ve gotten involved with. See’s you as a creative equal. 

- Thinks everything you made is brilliant, but also gives good constructive criticism when you want it. 

- When you get your first Devildom Galley. It’s going to be the biggest event that whole week. Asmo will not stand for anyone not going to this wonderful event. Takes over most of the party planning. Which makes you worried it’s going to be a big flirty party with Asmo at the center of attention. When you get there it is beautiful. Asmo has decorated the place to fit the theme or your art. There is catering and drinks. All of which again are themed to your art or just your favorite foods. 

- He’s so proud of you of course he had to make this event special. 

Beelzebub

- :OOOO 

- Really blown away by what you’re capable off. Asks you to send him photos as you work on pieces. Very quietly supportive. When you do art with him around he feels so happy. There will be a small smile on his face the whole time. Which breaks out into a beam whenever you show him what you’re working on.

- If you need a life model👀👀👀 Beel wouldn’t mind posing for you. 

- Very used to you coming up and asking him to hold something, or do something with his hands. So that you can reference it. Either holds the pose or asks you to take a picture if busy. 

- Commissions you to do art for his brother’s birthdays. Not only does he get to support your work, but he knows his brothers will be thrilled to have one of your pieces. 

- If you give him any art it will be treasured till the end of time. Neatly framed and kept somewhere he can see everyday. 

- Makes sure you stretch before and after doing arts. Making art requires a lot of fine motor skills that can put serious strain on your body. It’s important to take breaks and stretch. 

Belphegor

- His face makes a good desk when he falls asleep on your lap

- Might want to do art with you from time to time. He’s got a lot of thoughts in that brain and getting them out on paper feels really nice. If he can’t come up with something to make. he still gets to watch you make art which is always nice. 

- Wants to know the meaning behind your artwork. Even if he doesn’t particularly like an art piece. He wants to know what it meant to you, and its importance. Or lack there of. Some art is just shits and giggles. Belphegor just wants to know the intent of what you’re doing. 

- Has never gone to a gallery before, but for you?? He will be there on time. Hair brushed, face washed, and freshly shaved. Maybe even wearing a suit.

- “How many commissions have you been doing? no get your ass to bed.”

- Very good at reminding you to take breaks. Or getting in your way so much you can’t work and Have to rest.

Talks Machina Highlights - Critical Role C2E116-119 (Dec. 15, 2020)

Hi! I missed the first three minutes or so and opened the stream to Brian giving an absolutely incoherent ...ad? for some jewel game? Six thousand jewels just for logging in? Some app in the app store and he’s literally been talking about this now for six minutes and I don’t know what he’s talking about. He finally wraps up, Laura brings the show to a close, and we’re all a little worse than we were before.

Ashley tries to get us back on track and Henry bays over her. Brian tries to ask the first question and breaks off into feigned sobs halfway through. This is chaos incarnate.

Tonight’s guests: Laura Bailey & Ashley Johnson.

How’s Yasha feeling right now about Molly? She and Jester both are desperately curious about whether there’s a spark of Molly left in Lucien that can be brought back. It’s not the same as when Yasha was controlled by Obann; this seems more like just the way this is now. They’d settle for even finding the good in him, like they did with Essek. Brian jokes that they can monitor his mental state if Matt’s Irish accent starts to slip a little bit.

Jester is a little wary about scrying on Lucien now since he’s able to see her back.  She’s interested to try again now that Fjord’s given her the necklace.

Ashley has to run and grab a replacement set of headphones from Brian after hers get “crunchy.” It’s pretty cute seeing them run around and smooch on another screen. Brian teases that he doesn’t have any more questions for Jester since Caduceus has been doing all the healing lately. Laura tells us indignantly that she had Heal prepared for Caduceus in that last big fight, but Fjord got to Cad first. Brian explains how this is the same as all the good jokes he always lines up for Talks but never tells. Ashley’s crunchiness continues and we go briefly to a technical difficulties screen while Brian hops up to fix it.

Dani pips in to get this show back on track. Save us, Dani!

Ashley hadn’t thought about the aspect of Lucien controlling his friends’ minds, but finds it really creepy. It’s a cool game dynamic, and it’s a little different because they’re there willingly, but it’s really weird.

Jester thinks that “the tarot cards know all. She wants to buy into it real hard.” If it doesn’t make sense now, it will later. Laura has an Idiot’s Guide to Tarot Reading.

They’re super interested in why Aeor is like it is. Were they more advanced than us? Did they evolve along a different line? Ashley loves sci-fi and is all about this, especially since she wasn’t there for Happy Fun Ball time & hasn’t been able to get caught up on some of the things she missed in between, so she’s using this as an erstwhile replacement. She can already tell there are some things from this campaign that will bother her the way the unopened box did from C1. She and Laura both seethe at the camera about having to leave the spider behind.

Travis distracts Laura by dancing like a Trex offscreen. That seems right for this episode.

Jester’s encouragement of Yasha pursuing Beau was important in a lot of ways, not least because Ashley considered herself as uninterested in D&D romance as Travis & was a little unsure of activating a romance among her friends. However, it felt really natural within the game and it was really helpful to have Jester’s in-game encouragement. Yasha’s grown a lot and is in a much more positive place and is ready to find out what’s possible. Laura: “Jester from the get-go has seen Yasha as this wonderful soul from the beginning, and has seen how sad Yasha’s been through everything, and to see the difference that she exhibits when talking about Beau is drastic and wonderful. Jester’s joy in life is helping others find joy.”

Ashley points out it’s also so fun to “yes-and” with Laura because you’re like a little kid being dragged along by the hand - you don’t know where it’s going, but you know it’s going to be fun along the way.

Ashley does have a sense of “thank goodness Marisha isn’t jumping right into this” so she can coax herself into it, but when she tried to figure out the poem she had a lot of drafts that didn’t survive. She intentionally crafted the letter to give Beau an out if she didn’t feel the same way. There’s a lot going on with Lucien right now and there’s constantly a running thought in the back of her head about “maybe Beau is not into this.” Even the last couple episodes with Jester & Fjord have had Ashley finally understand shipping.

Brian brings us to the moment “almost as romantic as the pre-season finale of the Bachelorette.” Jester was “goo” afterwards. Early on in the campaign, Jester was very forward with her flirtations with Fjord & he shut her down. And then he kissed her underwater and immediately went and slept with Avantika, and Jester automatically shut herself down, because she thought she was misunderstanding & would only be hurt by those emotions. She deliberately focused on just being there with her friends, making everyone healthy and happy. These last few episodes where Fjord was flirting back felt like “my teenage heart again, my first kiss, the boy I like actually likes me back!” and she was able to open back up.

Yasha definitely has some instrument plans for those bones. She doesn’t know if she’s going to add to her harp or create a new one.

Ashley and Laura cheer about Travis stepping out his comfort zone. Laura thinks it was really good that he was doing it with her, his real-life wife, to see if he likes that sort of stuff in his D&D campaign. “It was just so sweet. It was just so sweet.” Brian says he’s actually a really romantic dude & Dani is so glad he asked before the kiss. Brian: “It’s going to be so sad when he breaks your heart and goes back to the corpse of Avantika.” Laura: “It’s fine, Jester will be long dead by then anyway.”

Jester does believe the four-year time trade was worth it, but that the city leaves “a mark on your brain,” especially as in-depth as she saw it. “Jester’s always been reticent to talk about her age because she’s aware she’s perceived in a juvenile way by a lot of people, and she’s insecure about that. She grew up by herself without a lot of social interactions and is experienced in a lot of ways now and naive in others; she’s very aware of human emotion around her, but chooses to see it in a certain way.” Losing the time makes her wonder if she needs to grow up & become an adult about certain things now. Laura: “I think actually she’s closer to Fjord’s age now. Actually, I’m not sure about his age. I don’t know how old he is - I’ve never even asked Travis!” Brian: “I think he’s definitely fifteen.” Laura: “Travis, how old is Fjord?” Travis, off-screen: “Sixty-five,” but he’s had the Mask of Many Faces up this whole time. Later, he adds that he’s in his early 30s.

Ashley has really enjoyed digging into Yasha’s more humorous side lately. It’s how she gets comfortable as a player, making it fun and light in a way that this year needs. “It’s also really funny to think that Yasha doesn’t know how Message works.”

Brian congratulates Laura & Ashley both on their game awards nominations. Brian vamps trying to get himself in as the presenter, but incidentally refers to Laura as his sister in the conversation and it’s super cute. “I would like to be the one to give the award to either my fiancee, or my sister!”

Jester’s polymorph gambit was terrifying, but the stakes got even higher when everyone else got stunned. She does lament choosing a bunny at the start. “Frickin’ Fjord’s armor!”

Yasha loves being polymorphed lately. She thinks it’s kinda funny, especially given her rigid upbringing with such defined roles.

Laura feels like Jester and Vex are weirdly two halves of herself. Brian: “You see the very bargainy, I’m gonna use my wit & smarts to negotiate situations. But at the same time, you’re very open to what people are thinking & feeling and navigating that. What you end up putting out (though it comes across as innocent and naive) is something pure because she truly believes it.” Laura thinks Yasha and Pike are the same way for Ashley, though Ashley feels a little closer to Yasha right now. Sometimes you just feel really exposed. Laura compares how much idealism she put into Jester to her character from Fruits Basket.

Since Yasha didn’t belong to either side in the war, she’s not hugely concerned by the fallout; she more wants to make sure her found family are okay and safe. Jester is the same way, Laura tells us. Jester doesn’t have any greater vision of the Empire & Dynasty interacting; she cares about the people, and it hasn’t been until the vision with the city that she kind of woke up and realized they have to really stop this now. It feels bigger than the Dynasty/Empire. Ashley: “It seems more of a thing for Beau and Caleb to care about.”

Really, up to now Jester was mostly concerned about getting Molly back, but now the stakes seem much higher. “We have to do this. We have to complete this, to beat them, to keep them from doing this.” Yasha is just going with the flow for now. There’s a lot coming at them and they are ready to find out what’s next.

And that’s that for tonight! Brian thanks the crew especially for working incredibly hard on switching everything to home-based streaming. He then gets stuck halfway spinning around in his chair and the last thing we hear is him idly wondering “What’s Fjord taste like?” which seems pretty on brand for tonight’s show. 🍂Fall Journal Entry🍂

Just a little bit about what I've been up to this fall (if you can call it that...)

Well... it's November now. My favourite month of the year is officially over, and my favourite season is coming to a close.

Fall is my favourite season for a few reasons... The main one being Halloween, of course (which I had an amazing Halloween), but the other reasons are the beautiful fall colours and the foggy weather... both of which are a photographer's best friend.

Fall is by far the most fun season to photograph, and I missed out on all the pretty colours last year because school was super overwhelming, so I was determined to get lots of fall pictures this year... only we didn't have a fall.

The weather went straight from being hot, summer heat, to winter. Absolutely no in between stages. Until a couple weeks ago it was still shorts weather, and now they are calling for snow this week? I doubt it will actually happen, but still... where was fall?

Because of this weird weather there has been next to no fog, and almost no fall colours. This has been a huge bummer for me, and I've spent quite a bit of time searching to see if I could find any trees with nice colours. (I actually spotted a couple today on campus, so I might bring my camera to class tomorrow)

Last weekend on the 22nd, I went out to capture the "fall colours" and was pretty disappointed. I got a couple cool pictures, but nothing too spectacular. It was a bit strange. All the trees were already completely empty, all the leaves having fallen, or were still completely green. No reds, no yellows, not even browns... just green or nothing. And everything that was green wasn't even a nice green, but rather a dusty grey-green. There were the odd yellow or red tree here and there, but the overwhelming majority was already finished with the fall cycle, or hadn't even started.

I'm planning on sharing more photos from my excursion soon, but you can see here what I mean about everything being mostly green, or even a dusty grey.

It was definitely a bit disappointing to have my favourite season just... not happen, but I didn't let that stop me from having a great spooky season.

In October I got to do all kinds of fun things like hang out with the cosplay club and have a lightsaber duel, go to a pumpkin patch with the cosplay club, see Rocky Horror in theatres with my friends, go to a costume party at the university pub, have a spooky dnd session where we cosplayed our characters, and hang out with my friends on Halloween to ghost hunt and play an intense game of Mario Party. It has been an absolutely jam-packed month, and I've enjoyed every second of it.

In case any of you were curious what my Halloween costume was this year, I did Eddie! I technically wore 3 costumes this year for the different events I went to (Eddie, my OC, and Beetlejuice).

Also this month I ran my first ever session of dnd as a DM! That was crazy! It is something I've always wanted to do, but never thought I would ever have the time or knowledge to pull off. I had an opportunity to fill in for our usual DM and decided to run a one shot that I created. Sure it was a bit rough, and I needed a bit of help when it came to the combat side of things, but I had a ridiculously fun time and the players all loved it! It was a super meta one shot, where I took all of our pre-existing characters from our usual campaign and threw them into our world. I got to play myself as an NPC which was very fun, and got to play all of our group members as the enemies, so they had to fight themselves. It was such a cool experience and I'm so glad they all enjoyed it. It's pretty cool that I can now cross that off my bucket list! Here are the minis I made of everyone for the combat!

Anyways, I haven't been posting much this month because A) I've been super busy, as you can tell from this needlessly long journal entry and B) because I am SO FAR BEHIND ON DRACULA DAILY. I can't use Tumblr without seeing all of the Dracula content, and I really don't want spoilers (Yes... I know the book is more than 100 years old. I still don't want spoilers). I think the last entry I read was the October 2nd one, so I'm a month behind at this point. It's been killing me! I need to know if Mina is ok!!! But alas, I simply have not had time to read. I'm hoping to catch up soon now that life is calming down, but who knows.

So... that is a little bit about what I've been up to. Not that anyone cares. I just like writing these little journal posts so I can look back on all the fun stuff I got up to... and oh boy was there lots of fun this month.

Episode 94: With Great Power...

Stats for this week’s episode: factoring in the time spent in the Happy Fun Ball, Jester’s gift to Isharnai was a 34-day-old cupcake. Nott reached 1,500 rolls this campaign with her stealth check after the zombie fight. Travelercon is 33 days away. 176 days have passed between the reveal of Travelercon and the reveal of... Traveler’s Con.

Laura thought up her plan against Isharnai during Beau’s talk. “I had it planned pretty far in advance. I don’t know if anybody goes back and watches it, you can see when I pulled out my Dust of Deliciousness card.” She didn’t have a backup plan. “Basically, if it had failed, I probably would have died. Or no hands.”

Sam notes that Nott probably would have enjoyed killed Isharnai. “However, I mean, Laura. That was just so great. That was so great to watch.” Laura felt like if they’d gotten into that battle, someone would have died, and Sam agrees. “But I feel like at this point Nott’s just happy that it’s over. Or can be over.”

Laura Bailey out of context: “I don’t know, I think there are a lot of people out there who would be happy to have aliens inside them.”

Laura knew in advance that Artagan was the Traveler; it was her idea! “I have mentioned on the show before that my original plan was to make a warlock, and I was going to make a warlock with the Fey Pact to Artagan.” She was also thinking about the Book Pact for a book of dirty pictures. And then Travis took warlock, and Laura wound up working with Matt to shift the idea to cleric. Matt’s vagueness did manage to get Laura to doubt that he’d actually gone with Artagan, so she was surprised when he finally revealed it. She’s also nervous about what happens now. “What if this turns into, like, I don’t get to be a cleric anymore?”

Sam, on Nott seeing the physical manifestation of the Traveler: “She’s seen weird shit before, traveling with this group, so it’s not the weirdest shit. And she’s also seen Fjord be transfjormed by the power of a literal god, so it’s not that Nott doesn’t believe that religion exists, it’s just not something that she’s spent any time with. But now we’re getting to a spot right now, in the campaign, in the story, where she’s maybe kind of open to it.” Laura gasps: “Have you heard about the Traveler???”

Jester has some mixed feelings about the Traveler asking her for help. “It’s complicated, yeah. I imagine it would be really hard to have the one person, the one entity, that you think you can let all of your guard down with and be yourself turn out to not be that anymore, and you realize you have to put on the mask for them as well.”

Why did Nott choose Yasha to take the flask away? “Nott does not trust her, at all. She has betrayed us, she has frequently left us. I am undecided yet if Yasha is actually a good guy. But she is the biggest and the baddest and is good at enforcing, so that’s why Nott chose Yasha. And I think there’s a subtle desire to know more about Yasha and to connect with her in any way.”

Jester felt fine about the group not believing her about Nott’s curse being broken; it was a pretty unlikely scenario, and she had other things on her mind. Laura notes that Jester has been very upfront with the rest of the Nein and very, very rarely lies to them.

On hiring the housekeeper: “Nott was concerned with our home when we are not there, and then Sam Riegel was also remembering, when we had Greyskull Keep in the first campaign, we had a whole fuckin’ staff.”

There’s a brief digression into about what kind of sheets everyone would have. Thread count comes up.

Laura, on being reminded of the blue dragon fight: “She pushes that one away, but yeah, seeing the blue dragon was definitely triggering for her. I don’t think anybody in the group really noticed.” Sam noticed. “I was with you in that blue dragon fight. It was rough.”

On Nott suggesting they kidnap Beau’s brother: “I would not view it as taking a son from his mother as much as rescuing a child from a toxic environment.”

Did Laura take the “everyone’s in love with you” statement seriously during the Zone of Truth scene? Laura: “Pff, no.” Sam mentions how proud he is of how far Laura’s come as a magic-user in the game. “Now you’re a magic expert! You conned Matt Mercer with magic!”

On Nott being willing to reignite the war: “Yeah, she did go pretty dark. The people involved in the war are hypothetical people who she doesn’t know or care about.” Nott wasn’t willing to consider sacrificing anything within the group; the alternative was more “rationalizable”. “She definitely wanted the curse off of her,” but that last step is a big commitment. Laura points out that, as a halfling, Nott never got to explore what else she could have been, and now her adventures are tied up with that goblin identity.

How’s Jester feeling about other clerics and other gods? “I think it’s really early to know that answer. It’s too early to know how I feel about any of it, because we’re in the middle of the conversation.”

On Nott’s offer: “I think she understood the severity, but again, in the moment she was just trying to come up with something that she could give that wouldn’t affect her or her friends. She wouldn’t have given up her hands, she wouldn’t have left the group, she wouldn’t have given up her son. She’s jittery. She’s not brave.”

Laura notes that it was a cool feeling, helping to orchestrate the Traveler’s story across two campaigns (especially given that Vex was the one who discovered Garmelie!).

Nott had “a nice family environment. She had brothers who were shitheads to her, but Travis and Ashley were good parents, doing what they could. Veth Brenatto is married to Yeza Brenatto. I don’t know Veth’s maiden name! I don’t know Travis and Ashley’s last name!” He settles on... Smith.

AUTHOR INTERVIEW : Ryan La Sala

The best thing about being in Artist Alley is the opportunity to meet people. You are sitting behind a table and basically the entire convention comes by you. Over three days you are chatting, laughing and sharing stories with the community. It was 2019 and I was sharing a table at Anime NYC 2019. It was my first time back to New York in a number of years and this is how I met author Ryan La Sala who just released his first book Reverie at that time. He mentioned he was working on a book related to cosplay. Fast forward to now Jan 2021 and his new book Be Dazzled is out!

But before we jump into the book, let’s talk to Ryan about his experience cosplaying. I mean I do run a cosplay blog!

EJEN: So Ryan, after digging around on Google I discovered you cosplayed at New York Comic Con previously. Take me back and let’s talk about how you discover cosplay, what do you love about it and take me through your experience cosplaying and convention going.

RYAN: I’ve always loved crafting costumes, and I’ve always loved cons and anime, but for some reason I didn’t cosplay myself until I started dating this guy who needed help on an iceman look. We dated for a few years and it was through him that I got really into the world of cosplay, even building us matching Hawkman cosplays for NYCC one year. I started writing a book about cosplay soon after, and fell deeper in love through the process of research. I love cosplay for so many reasons.

Dressing up is such an effective way of outsmarting reality and inhabiting the body of someone powerful, or eccentric, or dramatic. It feels good and it looks cool. Plus, I have profound respect for the work that goes into building these looks. I love that cosplay is half armor, half art, and entirely fun.

The irony of writing a book about crafting and cosplay is that I rarely had time to work on my own cosplays. The result was that despite being super crafty, I was constantly the only one in my group of con friends not dressed up, which meant I got to hold their stuff and take photos of them while at cons. Which I actually love! It gave me the ability to absorb the atmosphere and appreciate everyone’s hard work, and observe. That’s what I needed while writing, but now that the book is done I’m super excited to get to work on all the things I couldn’t create these past few years. Soon, my friends will be forced to hold my things and take my photo!

EJEN; Cosplay is like any creative process faced with barriers and difficulties, some of them interior battles and along the way I think we find ourselves through this process.  Share with us how cosplay has informed you and your writing.

RYAN: There is nothing more humbling than that task of taking something imagined and attempting to make it material. Cosplays are like that. So are books. The mark of a job well done is often the lack of any signs of effort, but the truth is that effortless excellence comes at the steep price of a lot of rejection, failure, and determination. I learned this early on in my own crafting ventures, and it prepared me for the monumental task of taking the worlds in my head and trying, despite physics and reality, to put them into the heads of others.

If you’re me, you start every project with half the knowledge you need to finish it. Half if you’re lucky. The rest has to be figured out as you go.When I create something--a craft, a cosplay, or a book--it’s often an exercise in trust and vulnerability. I trust that if I just keep going, I’ll finish, and maybe it won’t suck. And that’s a vulnerable thing to do--to know perfectly well that you’re not nearly as skilled as you need to be to accomplish something, yet setting out to accomplish it anyways.

EJEN: So your new book Be Dazzled has been tagged as Project Runway meets Comic Con. I’m sure your con experiences help create the characters Raffy and Luca, can you talk about how these two came into being as well as the genesis of your second novel?

RYAN: I was a mess at my first NYCC. I stayed up every night for like a month prior building matching cosplays for me and my boyfriend, who wasn’t very useful at crafting but was super hot, so we balanced each other out. Anyways, on the day of NYCC I was irritable and exhausted, but also elated and inspired. It was a strange, super-specific scenario, and immediately afterwards I called my agent to tell her I wanted to write a rom com based on it. 

That’s how I got Raffy and Luca, and their fraught relationship drama taking place during a cosplay competition. Raffy is this super determined artist that fights through perfectionism and anxiety to deliver amazing work, yet Luca, his ex-boyfriend, gets tons of recognition cosplaying because he’s hot. The book is fiction, and the story is made up, but it’s rooted in a real experience and a real relationship.

And for anyone wondering, me and that guy broke up. It wasn’t because of cosplay though, I promise! We’re still best friends, and the book is actually dedicated to him.

EJEN: How was the writing process with the second book? I mean with your first book there was definitely many, many years put into that book. This time I assume your writing time has shortened plus you definitely have more experience under your belt.

RYAN:  I’m careful about saying this because I don’t want the Novelist Mafia to put a hit out on me, but writing this book was a lovely, painless process. I think it’s because this book is made out of pure love and joy. Even though it starts with a breakup, the book itself is about all these things I love, and have loved forever.

Crafting, anime, costumes, cons, new love, second chances, teamwork -- it’s all readily available joy that I just had to write down. And it also helped that the emotional plot of the book was something I myself had gone through, so much of this felt like therapy.

And, of course, there’s the deadline. First books are hard because no one is asking for them, usually. You can just go on and on until you’re done. Second books, however, are often developed with a deadline looming. I’d like to think I’m a better writer the second time around, but it may just be that I’m a tad bit more….inspired.

EJEN: I love your story how growing up you didn’t see queer people represented in the books you read so you were inspired in a way to make own path plus the way you found yourself a book deal makes it sounds like a dream. Though you know as well as I do there are many curves and many paths to reach your goal. What are some nuggets you would give creators out there hustling for their dreams?

RYAN: Take your dreams seriously. Afford your dreams the dignity of your best effort. There’s lots and lots of advice out there meant to ease off the pressure, to give you a break, to treat yourself, to take care, to take a break -- all of that is good advice. But I always tell creatives that it’s also okay to know exactly what you want to do, and to pursue it with unremitting resolve. I especially want queer creators to know this, because so often no one is asking after our art. We have to create it without any promises it’ll be recognized, and it’s so easy to give up as a result. So I’m here to tell you to take your work seriously, because it deserves it. And you deserve it.

EJEN: What would you hope readers would take away after finishing your book.

RYAN: My greatest dream is that someone will put down my book and be inspired to make something amazing for themselves. It doesn’t have to be a cosplay or a book. It could be a dragon made out of laffy taffy for all I care. I just want people to get in touch with their own ability to make cool stuff, and to take risks expressing themselves.

My second greatest dream is that readers realize that stories like this--that are joyful and queer--are too rare. I hope they put down my book and ask for another just like it.

EJEN: So how are you handling the pandemic ? Are you using the time for your next book?

RYAN: I certainly should be, but I’ve found instead that the pandemic has created an oddly perfect scenario for me to focus on all the arting and crafting I didn’t get to do while I was writing a book about arts and crafts. I’m writing more, but I’m also working on lots of mini-projects. I’ve started a crafting channel on YouTube, for instance, and separately a podcast in which me and another writer are reading a fantasy novel written by Tyra Banks as if it’s a IRL Bookclub. Stuff like that.

Clare seeks HIMBO: ‘The Bachelorette’ cast first impressions

The Covid-19 pandemic has been rough for the entire world, but Bachelor Nation faced some dark days too. Going eight months without a single new episode from The Bachelor franchise is something I would really like to not relive.

Fortunately, those dark days are over. Clare’s season has me sucked back in. 

The quality of this image is atrocious.

Most of these men—presuming they followed CDC’s social distancing guidelines— haven’t seen a woman in months, are touch deprived, possibly unemployed and contemplating moving back to their hometown while stalking the housing market on Zillow. Everyone’s desperate. That makes for some pretty good TV.

This season features men ranging from ages 26 to 41. We’ve got a boy band manager, a grooming specialist, several men who look like they masturbate in front of full length mirrors and even more who probably want me to join their MLM pyramid scheme. 

I’ve never been more ready to roast a bunch of men who have nightmares about going bald. It’s all I’ve wanted to do since March.

Before I even saw his profession and location, I thought Joe looked like a doctor I’d find on a NYC dating app...and...uh...I probably did see him on there now that I think about it.

Anyway, this man has apparently been through seven stages of hell while on the front lines fighting Covid-19 in NYC so I definitely think he deserves to find love. Someone marry him please.

I could go for the obvious drags regarding this man’s profession (or his sh*tty chest tattoo, or his suspiciously boyish face relative to his age), but I like to think I’m more clever than that. 

I’d like to take this time to talk about men, who are obviously difficult people, who rant and rave about how they want an “easygoing” woman. Look into the mirror, bud. No, not the one you use to jerk off to your reflection; the mirror that looks into your soul. Out of respect for the rest of humankind, have some self-awareness. Or maybe just see a therapist.

Mike, 38, Digital media advisor

Mike is seemingly a decent catch, but I can’t help but wonder why he’s still single or how he never (accidentally or on purpose) impregnated a woman in his 38 years of life. 

And now that I’m thinking about it, do any of these men have children? I have yet to see any mention of it in their bios. But there are eight men left to review, so there’s still time.

Page, 37, Chef

I spoke too soon. Page is a father! He also hates football! I’m a fan of this man. I was initially going to drag him for his name and say that Page is not a real name. PAIGE is a real name. PAGE is a piece of paper. I’m allowed to say this because we have the same name except mine is spelled the correct way. Based on my (mostly positive) review of his cast bio, I have decided not to hold his name against him.

Riley, 30, Long Island City

Riley, once married with children, would like to go on a family vacation that consists of touring every single MLB stadium in the country. If i were his wife, I would simply never give this man children.

Robby, 30, Insurance broker

No more Robbys on The Bachelorette. Society has evolved past its need for more Robbys.

“He loves Philadelphia sports and dreams of sharing a Philly Cheesesteak with his future wife while watching the Eagles win a Super Bowl.” This man is so South Jersey it hurts. 

On a more serious note, I don’t think anyone in recent history has spoken openly about their personal struggle with addiction on this show, so I hope Zac gets a chance to tell his story. 

Zach J., 37, Cleaning service owner

Zach is seemingly obsessed with Clare already and hopes to introduce her to his mom as his fiancée. Since Zach watched Clare on Juan Pablo’s season, you’d think he’d know that Clare would first meet his mom during the final four hometown dates. Assuming he makes it that far. My prediction is that he won’t.

Final thoughts

After eight long months Bachelor Mondays are back!!!

Uhh....wait.

Actually, we now have the less-exciting Bachelor Tuesdays. Yeah, it definitely doesn’t have the same ring to it. But I’ll take anything at this point.

Here are my final predictions:

First impression rose: Dale. It just looks like he can turn on the bullsh*t charm

Final rose: Jason. Clare wants a HIMBO I just know it.

Bachelor: nobody (Matt James is The Bachelor)

Most likely to get engaged on Bachelor in Paradise: Blake M2
