December Jily Calendar 2023!

Hyvää itsenäisyyspäivää! 💙Happy birthday, Finland!
The portkey deposited them into cold and dark and a knee-deep bank of snow. Nausea swelled and lurched in James’ stomach, and he didn’t even notice the log cabin until Lily tugged at the sleeve of his robe. Its rectangle windows glowed yellow into the night.
James waded out of the snowbank, onto the narrow, cleared path leading to the cabin’s door. Lily followed close behind. The wooden door creaked as he stepped into a welcoming warmth. A simply furnished large room greeted him, with a seating area near a big fireplace where a merry fire was roaring, and a wooden dining table flanked with two benches on the other side of the room. Stairs snaked up near an open doorway to the side.
Lily pulled off her snowy boots and started to wander around the cabin, while James stayed near the door, laboriously peeling back all the layers of clothing, from his muffler to his hat.
“It’s a small kitchen,” Lily reported from the room off to the side, then joined James in the main room.
He bent down to pull off his shoes and grimaced at the lingering sense of vertigo. He loathed portkeys. But when they needed to travel across a big distance at a great speed and with little prior warning, there were only so many modes of transportation to choose from.
“There’s a letter.”
As James straightened again, he saw Lily pick up an envelope from the table. He walked over to join her and sat on the bench as she opened it and pulled out the letter.
“Welcome, friends,” Lily read. “Hope you have a nice stay. The sky should be clear tonight and the spirits say that the lights will come. The plants you seek are not far. I made you a map. In the shed outside there’s firewood, skis, snowshoes and a shovel. The broomsticks are in the tall cupboard by the front door. Good luck!”
“I vote for the brooms,” James said.
Lily shook her head. “Of course you do. You’ll jump at any excuse to fly.”
“What time is it?”
Lily glanced at her watch and frowned. “It was a little after 8 when we left and there’s a two-hour time difference... So probably somewhere around 10.30.”
James looked out from the window into the darkness. “Looks more like 10.30 pm than am to me.”
“Yeah,” Lily agreed. “I knew the days would be shorter this far up north but it’s really different seeing it first-hand.”
“Guess that means we have a few hours to kill.”
While Lily was studying the hand-drawn map, James managed to hook his arm around her waist. She stumbled into his lap, right where he wanted her, and set her hands on his shoulders.
“James,” she chided, laughter in her eyes. “We’re on a mission. We need to focus.”
“Oh, I’m focusing,” he replied, staring meaningfully at her lips.
“You’re an idiot,” Lily informed him. And leaned in to give him a long, lingering kiss. When she finally pulled back, she rested her forehead against his and flashed him a smile.
James’ fingers dug into the small of her back. It had been a while since the last time he had seen her bestow a smile so carefree; since she’d felt so relaxed in his arms. He stared into her eyes and held her to his heart. By travelling here, to this cold, dark wilderness of the far north several countries away from home, they had stumbled into a small pocket of peace. In this solitary cabin far away from all civilisation he felt safer than he had for months, even in his own home. In this alien winter wonderland, the war seemed just as far away as the British Isles.
James slid his hands up her sides so he could cradle her face. He brushed his thumb across her cheek and kissed her. It was slow and sweet and infinitely precious. A kiss so heartbreakingly perfect that he willed the time to stop. He wanted to freeze this moment, to imprint it in his memory. He wanted this kiss to stay in his heart so that even after they were back home, in the turmoil of life and death, deceit and battle, fighting for the right of Lily’s very existence, he could recall it and lose himself in it. The weight of her in his lap, her fingers in his hair, her heart beating against his, her taste on his lips, the slow teasing sweep of her tongue. And more than anything, the unhurried pace of this long kiss. Because here, they had all the time in the world.
*
It was a quarter past one in the afternoon and the sun was setting. It felt like the day had gone by in a blink of an eye, even though their time at the cabin had seemed to crawl as they waited for the nightfall. It had been a nice enough day, just slow. They had sat around and talked. Stared at the fire. Mapped out their plans for how they'd go about this mission. Eaten a hearty lunch. The highlight had been seeing a reindeer meander right across their yard.
But now the night was finally falling — even though it was quite upsetting to see the sun set so impossibly early in the afternoon — and it was time to set out and follow through with their mission.
When James stepped out of the door, shouldering a backpack and clutching his broomstick, they hit him all at once: the darkness, the cold and the quiet. Snow-covered wilderness stretched before him until the treeline of towering spruces and pines far ahead. The silence was so loud it rang in his ears. His breath fogged in the cold air that burned in his nostrils. The darkness would have been absolute if not for the moon and the stars, their pale silver light reflected all around him by the white cover of snow. For a moment, it brought him back to his school years and the snow-encrusted Forbidden Forest up in Scotland, which he’d so often roamed under the glow of the full moon.
Lily came out after him and pulled the cabin door shut. Her breath escaped in a hiss. “Oh hell no.”
She pulled out her wand and cast a heating charm on her wool cloak. Her wand jabbed James’ shoulder and then heat flooded in. He let out a sigh of relief.
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. Let’s get going. You can fly and I’ll navigate.”
James mounted the broom. Lily climbed on behind him, her arms snaking around his waist.
“Hold on tight,” he told her, before pushing off the ground.
Up in the air, it was even colder. The charmed cloak was making a valiant effort to keep him warm, but his fingers and the tip of his nose were bearing the brunt of the freezing air. Luckily, they didn’t have far to go.
James followed Lily’s murmured instructions. For a moment, she rested her head against his shoulder, her sigh misting in the air.
“It’s so beautiful.”
James had to agree.
Soon, they landed. James pulled his muffler over his nose for a bit of extra warmth, while Lily compared her map to the sparse landmarks nearby and nodded to herself.
She pulled out the shovel they’d brought along. She’d argued that it was safer to dig up the snow than to try to blast it away with a wand, because with a shovel they’d have more control over the force used and the herbs had a bigger chance of staying intact. James had thought it was very Muggleborn of her to default to manual labour where a spell would work just as well, but he loved how she always kept him on his toes.
The snow crunched as they dug. A point in favour of the manual labour was that after they’d cleared a good patch of snow, James was feeling a lot warmer.
Lily knelt, clearing the remaining inch by hand, gently brushing snow aside with her mitten-covered hands to reveal a tiny forest of bare plant stems sticking up from the frozen ground.
“Are those the herbs that we need?” James asked.
“Yes,” Lily answered.
“They don’t look all that impressive to me.”
“Trust me, they’re very potent. And right now they’re dormant.”
James shrugged. “You’re the potion expert.”
“That I am.” Lily winked at him.
“Now what?”
“Now we wait.”
They settled down just for that. James spread a blanket he’d found in the cabin on the snow. Lily dug out a jar from her backpack and kindled a magical fire inside. They sat side by side, leaning against each other, and gazed up at the dark sky above them. At the pale moon and the spread of the stars twinkling down at them.
James had lost all sense of time. An odd calm had settled over him. Usually, he would have been itching to do something; anything but the torturous drudgery of sitting and waiting. But here and now, with Lily beside her, in the peaceful quiet of the winter night, he could appreciate the stillness. He pressed his cool cheek against the chunky knit of Lily’s hat and closed his eyes, perfectly content.
James couldn’t tell how long he stayed like that until Lily stirred next to him.
“Look!” she breathed out in a reverent hush.
James opened his eyes and there it was. Spread across the sky above them a ribbon of bright, gradient green undulated like a sheer curtain rippling in the wind.
James instinctively reached for Lily’s hand, squeezing it, mittens and all. Something was lodged in his throat so tightly he couldn’t speak. Lily squeezed his hand back. The lights continued their parade, flowing like water, their colour reminiscent of Lily’s eyes.
It was the second most beautiful thing he’d ever seen in his life.
“Wow,” Lily sighed.
He turned and looked at her upturned face and awed smile, at the frost glistening on her eyelashes like diamonds. The love that rushed through him stopped his breath. There she was: the only thing in the world to which even the magic of the Northern lights paled in comparison. The most beautiful thing in the world.
A streak of red joined the vivid green in the sky and an answering glow sprung to life on the ground before them. The herbs were luminescent now, mirroring the brilliant aurora up above. The stems grew and sprouted leaves that slowly unfurled before their eyes. Tiny buds appeared, swelling until bright green bell-shaped flowers burst out, streaked by flowing reds.
“Get the other jar,” Lily told James as she bent forward, carefully cutting the plants with precise flicks of her wand.
James dug out an empty glass jar from his bag. It took a few fumbling tries to unscrew the lid with his mittens on, but as soon as he managed, Lily dropped in a handful of the herbs she’d scooped up.
“There.” She looked up at him, bathed in the green glow that made her eyes more luminous than usual. “Mission accomplished.”
James closed the jar and leaned in to kiss the tip of her nose.
“Let’s go home.”
“In a while,” Lily murmured in agreement, then looked back up at the sky.
They stayed there for several long moments, hand in hand and smiles on their faces, watching the magical lights dance on the velvet dark of the northern night sky.

Hi, do you know if there has been a Jily secret Santa event that has taken place? Also, could I be able to add so many prompts in a single story?
Hi!
We host a gift exchange at the start of the year that sort of works like a Secret Santa. Details for how to sign up for that event for 2024 will be coming out soon. But if you wanna check out 2023’s exchange fics, you can find those in the AO3 collection here.
But for December @jilychallenge hosts an advent calendar and they’ve just posted how to sign up for that. Fics, moodboards, playlists, art! It’s a fun time I recommend participating.
Combining of prompts is always welcomed.

***Had to update bc brain was clearly forgetting g some stuff 😂***
OOOH completely agree with this rec from @startanewdream especially check out @abihastastybeans november @jilychallenge and all the January @jilymicrofics she’s doing (one every day and they are vv cute!!! )
And the same goes for @charmsandtealeaves who wrote a sweet January Jily challenge, one and one makes two, but there’s def a lot more to check.
The whole December Advent Calendar (find a link to all the days here ) or just click on the ao3 collection.
Can I add a personal rec that is maybe a teeny bit angst but also has so much good feeling it could be considered fluff Everything carries me back to you by @oneofthesirens
And thank you @abihastastybeans for reading Not the doctor (it’s more cringe than fluff!?! 🫣 i think this summer story has more fluff 😂)
Let’s add some stories that make you smile so much it hurts:
Off the top of my head for fluff: @arianatwycross : beach reading.
@missgryffin smutty fluff of the highest order : muggle: stolen & magical (in both meanings of the word ;) for the hope of it all (I never listen to TS but since this one I’m a big fan of that song …
@wearingaberetinparis (the lily in the sky with diamonds, def some of the challenges -may/august) and definitely some of her jily microfics before she decided to turn up the angst ;-)
@mppmaraudergirl : chasing life (and then the LAST CHAPTER… alllllll the fluff… but I’d not advise to skip any of that story. But you know. Fluff. It’s there. Smutty fluff.
any fluffy jily Recs?
Ooh, it's been a while since I've dived deep into Jily fanfics and I always think that reccing old fics is missing the point (if someone asked for recs they want something new, right?), but let me rec @abihastastybeans and @charmsandtealeaves for amazing contents!
And also if anyone has any fluffy Jily to rec, please share them!

Hello! OMG, I am loving OLT! ❤️
So, I've been wondering something, and I can't seem to get it out of my head. I know that it's 99.99% not going to happen in OLT, but I thought you might still have some thoughts about.
Basically, why doesn't Mary just tell James about Harry being his son? Like, I get that it's not Mary's place to tell James without Lily's permission, and I also get that James is not Mary's favorite person (although I would assume they got along when Jily were together). But, given that Mary is sooo protective of Lily (which I'm totally here for), I don't see why she doesn't just say, "To hell with it. I'm tired of watching my best friend get hurt over miscommunication and stupid assumptions. I'm going to tell James, and then whatever happens, happens."
I know that Lily would be mad, and rightfully so. But, Marry has already mentioned how, if Lily never reconciled with James, Mary would help Lily find someone else because she deserves better than James. IMO, if Mary ever wants the whole "find someone better" thing to be a possibility, she should want Lily to get some closure, which I don't think would happen unless all the cards (i.e., Harry existence) are on the table.
Anyway, all of that being said, I am super excited to see where OLT goes from here, especially after what Sirius said to Lily (bad Padfoot! 😤).
This is such an interesting question! And you’re right, that is not how OLT ends.
First, I think that Mary just hasn’t reached that point yet. I know that time is hard to discuss in fics, and I definitely didn’t sit down with a calendar and plan it out day by day, but I don’t think all that much time has passed. Mary, Lily, and Harry came back late November or early December. There’s the one chapter that’s set at New Years, and we really aren’t far past that. Chapter 4 opened on January 1, and Lily goes to James’s flat a few days after that. When she comes home, Mary tells her she’s going to meet the boys “on Friday,” so we’re at most a week or 10 days into January. It’s not that months and months have passed. They’re being irresponsible, but in the terms of days not months.
Second, Mary doesn’t see the boys that often. It’s not like a Hogwarts fic where they live on top of each other and see each other at meal times and classes. She’s seen them four times at this point—when they first got back and Remus and Sirius invited her to drinks, the first night out, the NYE party, and the second night out. James was only at three of those, and Mary only saw him for a tiny bit at the NYE party before he disappeared for Lily.
I do think that Mary would eventually get to the point that she’d take it into her own hands and tell James, though I don’t know if it would be to push Lily to someone better. She’s aware that they’re both being stupid and that a grown up conversation would fix all of this, but that her two friends are two caught up in their own feelings to do it. For Mary, the “we’ll find someone else” is a back up plan that she doesn’t actually expect to ever need. James is being an ass, but James is made of love, and there’s no chance he won’t love Lily and Harry with all he has.
However, if this went on too long, Mary would absolutely tell him, Lily’s feeling be damned.

Seasonal
New Story! FFN and AO3
Christmas always comes early to the Potter home, but will Lily be able to love it as much as James does? ~~~Marauders One-shot. Christmas Jily Fluff.~~~
More stories from my life. ;) My mom puts up six trees, not ten, and I have two. Yes, I'm in the process of setting up right now, I should be done by Sunday. Then my kids and husband and I, along with the rest of the family, are helping my parents set up all next week. You don't have to like it, but there is something so very magical about turning a home into a Christmas wonderland and I love it!
Seasonal
James had never thought much about it. As a child, he figured it was just a part of what his family did. As a teenager, he never thought of it until Sirius moved in, but when Sirius came home with him for Christmas he loved it and James didn't think on it again.
Until today.
You see, Mia Potter loved Christmas. She loved Christmas more than any other holiday in the calendar year. And she loved Christmas decorations, Christmas trees most of all.
Mia Potter put up ten Christmas trees - every year.
And as she explained to the neighbors, when you put up and decorate ten trees along with dozens of individual decor pieces around the big house, you start early, November 1st early.
Every year prior to this, James didn't worry about it. As a kid, he loved helping clean up the few items of cutesy Halloween decor and then his mum always had some amazing story to tell him as they cleaned together or a fun reward for helping her deep clean the house over the first few days of November. Once the house was clean, all the boxes of Christmas decorations could be brought down from the attic and the trees could be purchased. James used to live for picking their trees with his parents, finding all the right sizes for each area, and he knew the spells to keep the trees fresh for more than two months at the ripe age of seven.
The excitement of preparing for Christmas was one of the biggest things he missed while at Hogwarts.
But this year, James was done with Hogwarts, and this year, Lily was practically living with them. And well, Lily had opinions.
As James understood it, Muggle stores put up Christmas decor to sell "far too soon," and Lily was not a fan of the Christmas decorations being ready for purchase before the Halloween decorations had even been marked down.
So this year, rather than the excitement he normally felt on November 1st, James found himself incredibly nervous.
"Good morning dear," his mum came swooping into the kitchen, her working clothes on and her long hair tied back in a kerchief. "Are you ready? I've missed having you around to help."
James felt that childhood excitement fighting with his anxiety over what Lily may think of the transformation that was about to take place in the Potter home.
"I am," he finally smiled, "It'll go faster this year since I can use magic."
"Is Lily coming over today?"
James swallowed and nodded, "She should be here in about thirty minutes."
"I'm so excited to bring her into our traditions!" His mum pulled him into a hug.
"Mum," James felt his face grow hot, and he moved to the bread box, cutting a thick slice, "We haven't made any decisions like that."
His mum raised her eyebrows at him, "Your father told me how you lingered at the jewelry store windows while the two of you were out last week."
"Er, well, I, we haven't, I mean…"
"Don't worry dear," his mum laughed at him, "I won't say a word."
James didn't believe that for one second but chose to eat his breakfast rather than comment on it.
Mia put him to work in the sitting room, mostly so he could be at the front door when Lily arrived, and James was quite pleased with how quickly cleaning went with magic. He had completely finished the sitting room and the kitchen when Lily arrived.
"Did you do something to be punished for?" Lily giggled as James sent the cleaning cloths back into their bucket.
James chuckled, "No, just helping Mum with some late Autumn cleaning. Would you be inclined to lend your wand?"
Lily grinned and James tried to make himself feel better by telling himself again and again that every word he said had been completely true.
With Sirius and Marlene on assignment, it left just Mia, Monty, Lily, and James to clean the whole house, but with four wands to help, they had the big house sparkling by lunchtime.
"Do you always clean in late Autumn?" Lily asked as the four sat down to lunch.
"Of course dear, it makes no sense to put everything out for Christmas if I'm not putting it up in a clean house."
Lily paused, "For Christmas?"
James held his breath.
"Oh yes," Mia pulled her drink to her lips, "Ten trees and the rest of this house take a couple of weeks to decorate."
"So," Lily spoke slowly, still looking at James, "you'll have all of your decorations up by the second week of November?"
"Probably sooner this year," Monty smiled. "You two made the cleaning go much faster than it normally does. I don't think we've ever been able to go pick up the trees on the first day of November before."
"We're buying ten trees today?" Lily's wide eyes were still looking right at James and he swallowed before straining for a smile.
"I meant it to be a surprise."
"James loves all this," Mia grinned, "He wrote me every week his first year of Hogwarts asking for updates about what we'd managed to get done."
James almost groaned but he caught Lily's eye and saw her fight a smile.
That smile gave him a bit of hope.
"Hal's tree farm only opens early for Mum," he gave Lily a grin, "Everyone else has to wait till mid-November to get their trees."
"Hal badgers me about it every year too," Mia laughed as she began clearing the table, "Tells me he's going to add twenty percent to the price. Hasn't yet, but I think he's just doing it for show, make it look like I'm forcing his hand."
Mia winked at Lily before speaking in a faux whisper, "I really am, but I'm too short and too sweet looking for him to realize it."
Lily laughed and James felt the anxiety easing away. He'd probably just caught Lily on a bad day when she went on a tirade about Christmas decorations before December.
"Alright kids," Monty stood and summoned his coat, "let's head up to Hal's farm and get these trees here. I'd like to at least get lights on them all before bed tonight."
James had the momentary thought of tracking down a horse-drawn sleigh and a horse and a warm blanket and taking Lily up to Hal's in wintery splendor, but then he remembered that it was November 1st and to simply be grateful it wasn't raining.
James side-long Apparated Lily to the tree farm and smiled as she took a deep breath in before sighing happily.
"This is lovely!"
"Yes," James kissed the back of her hand, "you are."
Lily blushed but his mum laughed.
"Monty he's your spitting image."
His dad chuckled before grabbing Mia's hand and pulling her into him. "It's a requirement to teach our posterity how to surround themselves with the best people."
Mia beamed.
"You've got to be kidding me!"
James looked up to see old Hal walking down from his porch.
"There's no way, Euphemia! There's absolutely no way you're ready for your trees today!"
"Oh, Hal," Mia laughed and gestured to James and Lily, "Of course there is. I had extra help this year. James and his girlfriend, Lily, have been at it with Monty and I all morning and I'm here for my trees."
Hal groaned, "I'm not open yet."
"Don't be like that Hal," Mia patted Hal's arm and James bit his cheek to keep from reciting this exchange from memory.
"I'm going to add twenty percent to the price," Hal objected again.
Mia smiled and nodded, "You always say that Hal, but even if you do, I'll still bring you your box of my homemade caramels." Her smile went sly, "But I can't start on those until the house is done."
"Fine," Hal grumbled, "pick your ten hundred trees."
Mia patted his cheek, "See, this is why you get a big box."
Lily stifled her laugh behind her coat collar and grinned up at James.
It took the better part of two hours for Mia to find exactly what she wanted and as James helped his dad translocate them all home, he couldn't help but feel excited.
"The one thing I wish I could figure out is how to get the lights on the trees without so much fuss." Monty chuckled.
"It's easier with magic," James furrowed his brow, "right?"
"Oh heavens yes," Monty nodded, "but it's still a hassle. I'll teach you how to do it this year."
Once home, James was feeling confident that everything was fine. Lily was laughing with his mum as they levitated boxes from the attic and Mia told stories while Christmas carols played on the phonograph.
"Always make the men work on the lights," Mia directed the boxes of decorations to their different locations around the house.
"I do the lights because you don't have the patience for it," Monty called back from behind the tree he was stringing lights around.
"That tree spontaneously combusted!" Mia glared, "I did not set it on fire!"
James smirked. His mum definitely set it on fire.
"James, why don't you take the big tree to the sitting room and start stringing it." Monty winked at James. "Take Lily with you and get her started on the Christmas village."
James nodded, his emotions swinging between being grossed out by the way his dad was looking at his mum, and being very glad to have an excuse to be alone with Lily. Especially now that she seemed quite pleased to be in the swing of Christmas decorating.
"I'm so glad you're having fun," James kissed Lily's cheek as they got settled into their decorating assignments.
"It's definitely something," Lily chuckled as she pulled another building out of the box.
"I think I'll only do two trees for the first bit when I move out." James commented absently as he worked to get the lights perfectly arranged on the twelve-foot tall tree, "A regular size one and then a small one.
"You want to do this sort of thing?" Lily's voice was cautious, and James looked up to see her very carefully turning the little Santa's Workshop around and around in her hands.
"Is everything alright?" James frowned.
"I, I guess, I thought, James it's November 1st…" She sighed and went back to setting up the Christmas village.
"I thought you were enjoying this," he fisted a hand in his hair as he berated himself for misreading the situation.
"I am, it's just, do you really want to do this?" She gestured around them at the boxes and boxes of Christmas decorations.
James moved to her, gently pulling the Christmas village piece from her hands and setting it down.
"Tell me you don't feel the magic," he moved his hands to her waist. "Set aside your cynicism and your misgivings about what the date is and tell me truly you don't feel it, and if you don't feel it I'll drop it and we don't have to do anything like this."
Lily stared up at him and her eyes went wide.
"We?"
James felt his heart drop to his shoes, "Er…"
"Honey, I'm home!" Sirius called out as he and Marlene walked in the front door. "Has Dad started on the outside lights, James?"
James blinked before shaking his head at his brother. "He's still stringing trees."
"Good," Marlene grinned, "because we want to set up the house lights. Sirius and I came up with something we think your mum is going to love."
"How was the assignment?" Lily asked as she stepped back from James.
"Boring," Sirius grinned, "good and boring."
"Those are the best," Lily smiled and picked up another piece of the ceramic village.
Sirius and Marlene went to retrieve the exterior lights and James was left to stare dumbly at Lily's back.
He'd meant it, what he said. He meant "we" even if it scared him to say it out loud. But it occurred to James that if he didn't clarify that now, it would most definitely come back to haunt him.
"We."
That was what he managed to blurt out, but his voice was sure, calm even.
Lily stopped setting up the Christmas village but didn't turn towards him. So James pushed his hand into his hair and pressed on.
"When we have our own place, I think I'd like two trees. I don't really care for the Christmas village. I love the exterior lights, though, so I'd like to have some sort of display."
He moved closer, placing a tentative hand on the small of her back. "What do you want, Lil's, when it's our place?"
"When, when we have our own place?" Her voice shook with the question.
"We," James said again.
"I want mistletoe in our home," she was quiet, "Petunia always complained about having mistletoe up so my parents have stopped using it."
James felt relief wash over him like floodwaters. He slipped his wand from his pocket and transfigured one of the pieces of crumpled newspaper from the Christmas village packing into a ball of mistletoe with a red ribbon. Then he levitated it above their heads.
"How's that?"
Finally, Lily turned towards him, her smile bright and there were unshed tears standing in her eyes.
"It's perfect."
And she kissed him.
James pulled her close, pressing her against him, deepening the kiss and grinning when he heard Lily's breath catch.
"You have work to do!" Sirius yelled as Marlene laughed and they moved to the front door, boxes of exterior lights trailing along behind them.
James shook his head as Lily pulled back to laugh.
"I hate you, Sirius," he flipped off his brother.
"You love me and you know it!" Sirius' shout drifted back in mixed with Marlene's laughter.
Lily let her fingers start to play with the hair at the nape of his neck as she looked up at him.
"James, how attached are you to decorating on the day after Halloween?"
"I rather like the idea of having everything ready mid-November." James smiled down at her. "We don't need to start on November 1st to make that happen. I don't want ten trees."
"I can live with that," Lily smiled, "I rather like the idea of being able to pull you under the mistletoe for half of November and all of December."
"Let's not waste time then," James chuckled before bringing this lips back to hers.
It was at the end of the day when James walked Lily outside to Apparate home and Lily paused to look at the exterior lights Sirius and Marlene spent the better part of the day and evening putting up.
"You're right," she smiled up at him, "there is something magical about all this."
James pulled her close as he looked at the home he'd grown up in. The lights seemed to pull every good memory forward, not just the Christmas ones, but all the good memories, including the ones with Lily.
"A lot of that magic comes from surrounding yourself with the best people." He brushed her hair behind her ear.
Lily pushed up and kissed him.
"I am the best," she whispered against him with a smirk.
"Cocky much?" James chuckled as he moved to kiss her neck.
"I learned for the best."
Lily's voice was full of teasing and James responded by moving his lips to kiss just behind her ear, smirking at the moan he pulled from her lips.
She did call him the best, after all, he might as well live up to the title.

Jily X Wolfstar
@alohcmoras request with a twist 🎉✨
sorry it took so long😭😭
ok so what if the Marauders studied in Beauxbatons instead of Hogwarts?
I mean, James, Sirius, Peter and Remus are far away from obedient students, so their first priority will still be Hogwarts
But when Remus’ parents had to move to France because his father’s boss decided to transfer him to the French Ministry of Magic during their 3rd year, Remus has to leave Hogwarts to attend Beauxbatons
Sirius would yell,”WERE COMING WITH YOU MOONY!” and James would agree and Peter would clap
Eventually Remus gave in to his friends’ begging, and it became his turn to beg his father
When the news of the Marauders leaving spread throughout the school, not many expressed it but they all know that they would miss them terribly
The boys saw that James was spending more and more time with Lily, being much less of a show-off during the last month before the holidays
Remus knew that his best friend would miss Lily Evans badly and needless to say, the kind werewolf felt extremely guilty
So he straight up told James one day that he could stay if he wanted to, but he merely replied with, “I’d be lost without my fellow Marauders”
GRYFFIN-HUG
The four mischief makers eventually found themselves in the Pyrenees in the middle of August
“Ugh!! Look at the uniforms Moony! They make us look like some kind of goodie-goodie two shoes!” “I happen to like the design, Sirius.” “Thank Godric I brought my leather jackets, at least I can be myself on weekends!”
Never mind the uniforms, the boys couldn’t believe that they had to take flying carriages led by pathetic white horses you find in fairy tales (Sirius’ words) to get into the castle, leaving Wormtail into a fit of nerves
But neither can deny that behind the fog, the creamy white castle looked absolutely magnificent
And they were absolutely stunned by the dining hall
It looked like a friggin ballroom
And it was huge
A grand staircase dominated the back of the room, with corridors stretching to unknown hallways on the stairway’s either side
The wall behind it bore blue wallpaper imprinted with flowers that looked like they were really blooming (MAGIC!), the Beauxbatons sign hanging proudly on the wall
There was a small golden stage in front of the staircase, and their were three long tables in front of it, not unlike the one at Hogwarts, except they have these elegant carvings on those soothingly—not blaring, mind you— white wood. Remus was practically bouncing at the artwork so he didn’t catch Sirius staring
The school was quite thoughtful, there were seats at the side of the hall so the newcomers didn’t have to stand at the side while they wait for their sorting
The ceiling was not disappointing either
It was way higher up than the one at Hogwarts
It was built flat, but with a few charms, the ceiling took the shape of caving upwards, much like a temple’s
The night sky that was twinkling with stars became more and more visible as the turrent like ceiling stretched further upwards
It was as if the students were having an Astronomy lesson and using a gigantic telescope
So it was no surprise that the boys were practically gaping at the ceiling, forgetting their too-tight new robes and staring all the way as they reached their seats in the front row
To their disgust, the house they were sorted into by shooting a silver arrow across the room burst into the colour green, and they only breathed a great sigh of relief when their peers told them that Bellefeuille was, in fact, the house of bravery
In the following week, the Marauders found that everything in Beauxbatons was better than expected
The school was big, there were Wood Nymphs dancing around, singing sweetly every time they had meals at the dining hall, and the girls were unsurprisingly, very pretty, according to a bashful Peter Pettigrew, who timidly admitted such a thought. There was even an extra Quidditch match within each house in November, which made Sirius and James squeal like babies
The only two things that weren’t as good was that there were no risky places that could kill you (unless you count the Quidditch stadium that was only about 15% smaller than the World Cup Stadium, in which you would totally break your neck if you fell off from your broom during a Quidditch match) and the headmistress
For some stupid reason, she despised boys
And to make matters worse, Headmistress Dochar (A/N: that means biased) had to teach the subject the boys hated and sucked at the most—Potions
Potions was the most important subject apart from DADA in Beauxbatons, so lessons were frequent and the recipes were complicated
After two weeks of continuous bullying by the Head, Sirus and James finally leapt up from their seats one lesson and openly yelled at the prejudiced woman, ignoring the pleading looks from Wormtail and Moony and the startled faces of the Beauxbatons boys
That earned them 3 weeks’ worth of detention from insulting the one with the largest power within the school
However, the Beauxbatons boys couldn’t help but shoot the Marauders admiring looks every time they passed by since they were the first to stand up to the harsh Headmistress and they soon became the newest celebrities of the school
To double their luck, a young Ms Bellerose replaced the originally dull teacher in DADA in about December
She was the playful type that always got students out from the claws of the Headmistress
And needless to say, she immediately grew fond of the boys’ mischievous personalities
She told them that she would like to start a project on a magical device that could show the location of everyone in Beauxbatons during the Christmas holidays when all four of the boys stayed on the school campus
Remus immediately came up with the idea of a map, and offered to make the map to show the location of people in different magical schools
Sirius had never been prouder
Messrs Moony, Wormtail, Padfoot, Prongs and Vulpis (A/N: Vulpis is fox in Latin), are proud to present to you, the Marauders Map
From then on, their DADA professor became more of their fellow adventurer than a teacher. And by March, they had discovered two secret passageways—one towards the highest tower in Beauxbatons, which had a very nice balcony for them to smoke and chill, the other was towards a little street that sold delicious food at the foot of the mountain. Messrs Vulpis seldomly hung out with them since she was still a professor no matter what, but they had great fun every time they did
It was during their fifth year, before the winter hols, after they lit the librarian’s chair on fire, when things started to get even more interesting
The school decided to open up to other wizarding schools by implanting a pen pal project
“YASSSSS THIS WORLD IS BEAUTIFUL!!!!” The boys literally threw a party when they learned that they were assigned with Hogwarts students so that they could catch up on everything that was now happening in their old school
And because of sheer, dumb luck, James was assigned to none other than Lily bloody Evans
Prongs was basically sweating all over when he received the news, afraid that things had changed between them because he had tried contacting her tons of times and she hadn’t responded at all
She claimed that she was busy with schoolwork while Peter bluntly informed it was probably because she was upset with Prongs leaving school or finding another guy to pay attention to
When James arrived back at school from the hols, he received Lily’s reply and was fuming more than ever when he saw that most of the content was about Severus Snape
Turns out Peter got it right
Prongs spent a whole day ranting on and on about how slimy Snivellus Snape was to touch his precious little redhead when he was
The letter he sent afterwards was too aggressive and it made matters worse
He didn’t talk to the Marauders for a whole day after he received Lily’s rant about how he would never be better than Severus Snape
His friends understood him more than anyone else, and knew that he wouldn’t shut them out no matter what, so when James returned from the Black Lake that night with bloodshot eyes, he found his fellow Marauders sitting there waiting
His tears soaked Peter’s jacket as he sobbed and sobbed and sobbed that night
Moony, Wormtail and Padfoot had never seen their friend so vulnerable
The following Sunday, Sirius and Remus spent their whole day in the common room thinking up plans for their friend and the boy in question didn’t show it, but he couldn’t be more grateful
The loudest high-five in history was created by Moony and Padfoot when James received a reply the next week, the Marauders could basically see Lily smile when they read the letter replying to James’ overly-enthusiastic description of Quidditch matches, Professor Bellerose and the Marauders Map
Sirius and Remus’ plans got better and better in every letter
They witnessed their friend falling hard and fast over again, unaware that they were also falling deep deep deep when they plotted and planned
Peter was having the time of his life watching James using every trick in the book to woo Lily Evans and hearing Moony and Padfoot ramble on and on about each other whenever the other wasn’t there
Everything was going along the flow. Apart from having a professor just as mischievous as them, it was just like old times, only better
Things, unfortunately, went downhill when the calendars flipped to the month of April
Girls had actually started fawning over Sirius, some flirted and some went as far as stalking or throwing themselves at him
It was no surprise, the disowned Black had naturally gorgeous looks
But that didn’t stop anger and jealousy bubbling inside Remus’ chest whenever he saw anyone, let alone a girl (well, aside from James and Peter) touch his darling Sirius Black, although he was in denial of such emotions
The change in their relationship was abrupt and obvious
They still huddled together to plan, for the sake of Prongs, but Remus always disagreed with Sirius on purpose, even if the idea was wonderful
Padfoot himself didn’t know what went wrong with the boy he loved so much, (but he didn’t know it at the time, did he?) and was actually hurt every time Remus started a war with him and never stayed to cuddle with him in the common room anymore
Remus could only stare when Marsha Earl, the most eager of Sirius’ “admirers”, asked Padfoot out openly in the dining hall, both blushing furiously
He lost his appetite immediately when he felt like he was being stabbed in the heart
He left the hall abruptly, terrified that Sirius had such an effect on him, too caught up in his emotions to notice his friends staring after him, with Sirius boring the deepest holes into his back
He didn’t care when he learned that Sirius didn’t agree to the French beauty’s invitation the next day. He stayed as far away from Padfoot as possible, not wanting to get hurt again.
James and Peter both felt really bad whenever Remus joked playfully around them but stayed completely silent around Sirius
James secretly told Lily about the situation in his letters to her, and she replied that she would bet anything that they were in love
He called her bollocks, but Lily’s little challenge was far from the most of his worries
Peter reported quietly to Prongs one day that the girl population were trying harder than ever to get Sirius to like them, and the poor black-haired boy was now having to deal with their constant fawning 24/7
Remus’ behaviour towards Sirius had escalated from ignorance to yelling at each other, calling each other names and sometimes even fighting like they were born enemies
Padfoot had erupted in Potions class once about how pathetic Remus was when he started an argument with Sirius over some stupid herbs that lasted 15 minutes
Peter swore he could hear Remus sniffling in his sleep that night
“Hey Moony, you ok?” “Y…yes, I’m totally fine” “I don’t think so mate, wanna talk about it?” No response
At the end of the month, Remus, panicking as he did every time he was soon to reach the full moon, trembled even more as he approached James and Peter and told them not to tag Sirius along when he transformed this time
The two were shocked as hell, and yelled at him to spill what in the name of Merlin was going on between Sirius and him, a question they had been dying to ask for months
Remus merely shook his head and looked at them with sorrowful and pleading eyes, begging them to listen to him in his own ways
James would have jumped back hollering and rushing towards Sirius if it weren’t for his self-control—he had never seen Remus so broken
Prongs and Wormtail couldn’t bear the thought of their best friend undergoing his transformation alone, so they gave in and everything went according to Remus’ plans
Only it didn’t, the pain the werewolf went through this time was doubled, dare I say, tripled without Sirius’ soothing wet nose of his Animagus form and forehead kisses after the tormenting morphing
Matters became worse when Remus learned that James had spilt the beans that he drugged Sirius that night so he could stay in his dormitory and not follow them to the Whomping Willow
The pain on the werewolf’s body grew more painful when he saw Marsha Earl skipping joyfully into the hospital wing to visit her friend and squealed that Sirius had finally agreed on going out with her the day after
“Sirius!” “Yes, Peter?” “You sure you wanna go out with that Earl girl?” “Of course, she’s gorgeous enough!” “You’re gonna ignore the fact that Remus’ hospital stay had lengthened into 2 weeks after your date today blurted the new out in the hospital wing?”
Padfoot ignored Wormtail and sauntered out the Bellefeuille common room with Marsha, though his heart was aching all over when his friend told him the truth that he had been avoiding with all his might
Marsha was extremely sweet and they could’ve great fun in the Three Broomsticks if Peter words weren’t ringing in Sirius’ head the whole time
So while Marsha was busy partying at said bar, Sirius slipped away at 5 pm, desperate to visit his old best friend
Moony was asleep in the hospital wing when he visited
But he was definitely not sound asleep since he was trembling madly
At the sight before him, Sirius shakenly walked towards the bed and got down on one knee
“Remus, Remus, Moons…please don’t shut me out again…” the voice that came out was hoarse
Remus’ eyes flew open, for he could recognize Sirius’ voice anywhere
“So,” The werewolf’s mouth pulled into a tight smile despite the pain his heart was going through, “enjoyed your date?”
“I mean, I just want you to be happy Pads, you don’t have to care for me, I love you, you know..” “Shut up.”
The two pairs of lips that have been aching to connect crashed together, stronger than a hurricane and firmer than an earthquake shaking the Earth
“He loves me…” was all that was on Sirius’ mind when he pulled at Remus’ bottom lip, coaxing a groan out of both of them
The kiss was an energy-drainer, and the two had no choice but to pull away to gasp for air
“I’m,” kiss “so,” kiss “so sorry Sirius,” long kiss “me too Moony,” they dived back into their own sea
“Can anyone, anyone at all, PLEASE explain to me what the fuckity fuck is happening!?” James bellowed loud enough for the whole dining hall to hear after Remus somehow miraculously healed all at once yesterday, earning himself lots of shushing from the forever graceful girls and professors. (except for Bellerose, of course)
However, the boys were staring at the pair that had just entered the hall, too alarmed to curse
In walked Remus and Sirius, in all their glory, whispering into each other’s ears like they had made up and went a level higher than best friends over a sodding day, which both James and Peter were sure they didn’t meet, like they haven’t for two weeks
The girls, noticing the expressions of the boys, turned towards the couple. Some of Sirius admirers, especially Marsha, went beet red
“Too bad for you mate,” Sirius smirked as he plopped down next to James, pulling Remus down with him, “Evans’ too smart for your own good, she won her little bet fair and square.”
One kiss to the werewolf’s forehead was all it took to confirm the black-haired boy’s statement, and all the boys who had, like Lily, betted with their friends that the pair was bound to get together soon, erupted into cheers
The two Bellefeuilles in question merely tolled their eyes and shook their heads
The school soon accepted the gay couple like any other couple, Professor Bellerose being the largest supporter of them all
During the hols, James sneaked Lily into the Beauxbatons school grounds, chilling on the balcony that the boys loved so much, their long-distance relationship firmer than ever
Messrs Vulpis tagged along once, and she and Lily immediately became the best of friends
Peter blushed as red as a tomato when Lily, ever the accurate match-maker whispered to all the Marauders in the dining hall during the Christmas hols that Peter had a crush on the pretty Marsha Earl, which was quite ironic since he always taunted her for getting in the way of Sirius and Remus’ relationship
The Marauders all persuaded him to ask her out, and he made the excuse of not knowing how to kiss
The consequences after such a statement was disastrous—Moony and Padfoot snogged in both public and private more than ever, saying that they were teaching their ol’ pal Peter how to display affection
In the end, Peter’s single status was also thrown out of the window, and Marsha, now officially Peter’s girlfriend, joined their little balcony gang
And because of the blonde, Wormtail didn’t turn to the Dark Arts, remaining a loyal friend after graduation
Padfoot practically squealing like a baby was an understatement, he was clinging on his husband and sobbing joyful tears when Harry James Potter was born to this world
When Harry turned 11 and it was time to choose which school he should go to, Mr and Mrs Pettigrew merely smiled at each other while Marsha bounced their baby daughter Aquila on her lap, smiles which spoke volumes
Sirius and Remus started arguing, an alarming contrast to the Pettigrew family. Padfoot kept hollering that Harry should go to Hogwarts and Remus trying to glare daggers at his husband (but to no avail) and repeating his statement that Beauxbatons was the best choice
The rest of the people in the room, including Harry and a 2-year-old Aquila, could only watch the two quarrel like 5-year-olds
Harry found himself on the platform 9 ¾ though, despite his Uncle Moony, Uncle Wormtail and Aunt Marsha’s protests
“Of course I’d like to study in the place where Uncle Moony and Padfoot fell in love,” he had said, grinning mischievously, “but Hogwarts is the place it all started, ain’t it?”
