James pulled the door of the dormitory open and stepped through, still in a shock, he silently made his way to the bathroom and splashed his face with cold water from the tap.

He came out a moment later, still not speaking a word, and slowly sat on his bed where he proceeded to stare at the floor with wide eyes.

He felt a drop in the bed and turned to Sirius sitting there.

"You alright, mate?" He asked.

James sighed and pulled the object out of his robe pocket.

"Evans gave me this", he passed it to Sirius.

Sirius glanced, slightly confused, at the unmoving picture of a nutcracker printed on a piece of card. He opened it to see Lily's handwriting.

Dear Potter,

Merry Christmas/yule! I hope you have a great break with your family & a happy new year.

With love, Lily Evans

Sirius snorted, "Y'know she gave us all one? I mean I saw her handing them out to the teachers, even to bloody Filch."

"Oh", James frowned, "Right, yeah, course."

Sirius glanced back to the card and grinned as he reread it.

"Wait", he passed the card back to James before clamering to his bedside drawer and grabbing a card with a snowman on. Inside read the exact same message as James', apart from one thing.

Sirius' grin widened as he got his confirmation and he hunted down Remus and Peter's cards for good measure.

He passed them all to James and stood in front of him, triumphant."

"What's the matter with you?" James eyed him, staring at the four cards in confusion.

Sirius opened each of them for James and then stood back as James caught on.

"She only wrote 'with love' in yours. The rest of us just got 'from' in ours."

James suddenly beamed and he grabbed the card, pulled Sirius up onto the bed and began jumping, Sirius joining in.

"She likes me!"

"She likes you!"

James stopped as a thought struck him, "She likes me... Merlin, I need to go tell her I'm in love with her."

"Woah, mate", Sirius held him back, "Maybe just. Write a card for her? Sign that 'with love' and she'll pick up on it."

"Right, right", James jumped off the bed and grabbed Remus' quill and a piece of parchment.

He unevenly folded it in half, so Sirius grabbed a new sheet and folded it for him. James quickly drew a reindeer on the front before writing in his message for Lily.

He nodded, satisfied, at his handiwork and glanced back to Sirius with a wide smile.

"Lily Evans likes me!"

Hogsmeade Tree Lighting

Taking their family of six to the annual Christmas tree lighting at Hogsmeade was quite the endeavor. The cobbled streets were bustling with witches and wizards bundled up in festive robes, garlands woven around their hats. Strings of enchanted lights twinkled above, casting a warm glow over the town. But none of it seemed to help James and Lily as they wrangled their little herd through the chaos.

The twins, Mia and Charlotte, were fussy in their pram, taking turns wailing every few minutes. Evan was starving—or at least loudly claiming to be—until Lily handed him a bag of warm roasted nuts, which he clutched like a treasure. And Harry, dragging his feet a few paces ahead of them, was loudly proclaiming his boredom.

“Why couldn’t we just stay home?” Harry groaned, clutching his tiny magical radio in one hand. “I wanted to listen to the Quidditch match! It’s the Harpies and the Cannons!”

“You can listen later,” Lily called as she gave James a knowing look, one that said, This is your son.

James adjusted the pram’s handle with one hand, the other holding Lily’s hand. “Harry, this is a family tradition. You’ll remember this when you’re older.”

“I’ll remember being bored,” Harry muttered under his breath, earning a snort of laughter from James.

Lily is forced to go with her parents to a ski retreat hosted by her dad's employer, Sleekeazy's. James's best friend skips out on the trip, and he's dreading going alone. Luckily for both of them, they won't have to spend this year's ski trip alone.

Summary:

Christmas in Barcelona. It's everything Lily's been looking forward to for six months. Until her mum delays her trip and insists she HAS to attend a family holiday party. And she's determined to hate everything about it until she meets a guy who threatens to sweep her off her feet. Too bad she's leaving the next day and may never see him again. Which would be the case if fate didn't intervene.

Her mum’s voice sounds tired as she skirts around Petunia’s reason for absence. “Look, Lily, I know this is cutting into your trip, and I’m sorry. How about I pay the difference in your travel plans? I know none of us can stand my real-life evil stepmother, but it would mean a lot to Pop Pop if you were there. It’ll only be for a few hours.”

Aaaand there’s the guilt factor.
