DAX- “So, Jodi, I really find you fascinating and would like to get to know you better. Do you have a date to homecoming?”
JODI- “Are you asking?”
DAX- “Actually yes, I am asking, but there is something you need to know first.”
JODI- “Okay if your asking, I will accept, but what do I need to know?”
DAX- “I do find you very attractive, and I think you are well put together, but I need to be open about my sexuality. I do not want you to get the wrong idea. I identify as pansexual.”
JODI- “Uh... okay not sure what that means.”
DAX- “You know what bisexual means, right?”
JODI- “Yeah, someone that is attracted to both male and female.”
DAX- “Correct, pansexual is a little more diverse as far as who they are sexually or romantically attracted to. I am more attracted to the individual, regardless of their gender, their sexual orientation or how they identify themselves. “
JODI- “So if you were attracted to a guy you would date him, or if you were attracted to guy that identifies as female that would also be someone you would date...if you were attracted to them that is?”
DAX- “Exactly. I was attracted to you when I first saw you and I really would like to get to know you better. So if you are okay with that....”
JODI- “Of course I am okay with that. I mean it is a homecoming dance, right? It’s not like we are getting married. And I will have the hottest guy in school as my date!”
DAX- “I wouldn’t go that far. But thanks for accepting.”
LOGAN- “Jamie I don’t recall anyone inviting you out here to sit with us. Where are your buddies?”
JAMIE- “Still inside eating lunch. I just thought I would hang out with Cassie here and say hi... Hi Cassie.”
CASSANDRA- “Hey Jamie. What do you want?”
JAMIE- “Wondering if you have a date to the dance?”
CASSANDRA- “Seeing how my girlfriend has been expelled from school and she can’t go to the dance, I would say that is a no.”
JAMIE- “So how about we go together. I mean not as a couple but you know?”
LOGAN- “What? What do we know, Jamie? Cassie is gay, why would she want to go to the dance with you?”
CASSANDRA- (Totally ignoring Logan’s comment)“Sure Jamie, why not, it beats going by myself. Just don’t try anything, you got it?”
JAMIE- “No worries there, I want to live to see my graduation.”
LOGAN- “You two are just weird.”

Meanwhile, over in Britechester, Jonas and Dax found an off campus apartment that they could share with four other guys. So of course they contacted Perry and Deacon, and then two other students Lorne and Isaac. Between the 6 of them rent was totally do-able!

PERRY- “Deacon, what are you doing out here all by yourself? Where is Logan?”
DEACON- “Not sure where she went, but she and I did not finish the night so well.”
DAX- “sounds like that is the theme of the night. Jodi and I didn’t either.”
JONAS- “So what happened with you and Lo?”
DEACON- “Not sure, she wanted us to become “official” boyfriend and girlfriend, and I tried to explain to her that asking her to the dance was not a prerequisite for becoming a couple. She became upset and left.”
JONAS- “Sorry, my sister is not fond of rejection, but she will be fine.”
PERRY- “Yeah she can hand it out but can’t take it!”
DEACON- “Well the night shouldn’t be a total loss, what do you guys say about all coming back to my place for an after party. We have a nice game room, and a small movie theater. We could hang out for a while. Want to?”
JONAS- “Sounds fine to me.”
DAX- “Perfect, why let the girls destroy our night, right!”
PERRY- “I didn’t have a girl problem tonight, well I have it all the time, but sure, let’s go party at Deacon’s!!”

After a quick tour, the boys made their way to the game room, where Perry and Deacon played some ping pong.
And Dax and Jonas shot some darts.
After that, they made their way to the theater that was in the basement of the mansion.
JONAS- “This place is amazing!””
DAX- “Yeah, for sure, but not quite as amazing as you are Jonas!!”
JONAS- “Stop... let’s watch the movie!”
DAX- “I have seen this one before.”

Jonas wasn’t lying when he told Dax that Willow Creek High was small. It was one of the smallest high schools in the tri-county area. The junior class alone (which both Jonas and Logan were juniors, as well as the other students in this shot) was only 36 students. They had three homerooms of 12 students each. This was Mr. Johnson’s home room.
CASSANDRA- “I have a biology test today, that of course I didn’t study for. Have you taken it yet?”
DEACON- “Opted out of biology, had it last year at my old school. I am in chemistry.”
CASSANDRA- “Well, well, aren’t you smart.”
DEACON- “Yep, that is why I am going to be class valedictorian next year.”
Over in the next row, Logan and her bff Jodi Garrettson are talking until the bell rings to start their day.
JODI- “I can not wait until today is over! So has Perry asked you to homecoming yet?”
LOGAN- “Ewww and why would you think he would ask me to homecoming?”
JODI- “No reason, I mean.....
as she starts to complete the rest of her sentence, Dax walks by and distracts her...
JODI- “HOLY SIMOLICIOUS! Who is that!?”
LOGAN- “Who is what??”
JODI- “That... whatever it is. That has to be some kind of god sent from above just for me...”
LOGAN- “No, trust me, he came from San Myshuno and he is no god sent from above.”
JODI- “Are you telling me you know him??”
LOGAN- “Known him all my life, and believe me when I say he didn’t always look like that. He used to be really short and pretty heavy. So much that I called him Dax Truck. You know like Max Truck?”
JODI- “Have no clue what you mean by that Lo. And I don’t care what he USED to look like. He looks like a heaven sent god now. What is his name?”
LOGAN- “I just told you, it’s Dax, Dax Johnson.”
JODI- “Even his name is sexy....You HAVE to introduce me!”
LOGAN- “Fine, come over tonight after school and I will.”
JODI- “Wait...are you telling me that HE is part of the family that is staying at your house??? So when were you going to tell me that you had the finest looking man ever living in your very own house!!?? I thought you were my friend Lo?”
LOGAN- “Contain yourself, Jodi, he is not all that. All he talks about is lifting weights and football.”
JODI- “OMG!! Does he workout at your house too? I am definitely coming over right after school today! Does he work out in the evening, or the mornings? Maybe I could stay the night Friday night. I don’t care what he talks about as long as I can watch him”
LOGAN- “No worries, Jodi, he works out ALL the time. You can wipe the drool from your chin now.”

JODI- “OH, it’s you, sorry.”
DAX- “Hey, I am sorry I really didn’t mean to bother you. I’m Dax, Dax Johnson.”
JODI- “Hi... I mean Hello, nice to meet you. I am Jodi Garrettson. You didn’t bother me, really.”
DAX- “Oh, okay. Garrettson? So you're Jamie’s sister?”
JODI- “Yes, unfortunately, Jamie is my twin.”
DAX- “Must be something in the water around here.”
JODI- “Why do you say that?”
DAX- “All the twins in this town, and the sisters are all smokin hot.”
JODI- “Yeah, there are a couple sets of twins here. I know you live with the Schreiber’s so you know Logan and Jonas? So you think she is hot?”
DAX- “I know them, yeah. She is okay, but I bet you are much nicer.”
JODI- “You could say that, yeah. Lo is kind of stand-offish. She can be rough around the edges sometimes. But we are good friends, best friends actually. You know good cop, bad cop thing.”
DAX- “I know the good cop, bad cop thing, but how does that relate to the two of you?”
JODI- “She don’t like guys coming on to her, so I play the good cop with the guys she is not interested in and she plays the bad cop for the guys I am not interested in. Works for us.”
DAX- “I see. Since she is not coming over here to save you, I can assume that you are interested?”
JODI- “Let’s talk some more, and find out?”
DAX- “Sure want to go outside after you get your soda?”
JODI- “Don’t need the soda actually...”
CASSANDRA- “Deacon... DEEK!? We don’t have much time before our next class, can we go outside?’
DEACON- “What about you, Logan, want to join us outside?”
LOGAN- “Sure! This is fascinating...”
CASSANDRA- “Yeah. I am sure it is.”

The boys made their way in Jonas’ car to the Ainsworth mansion. For Dax, Jonas and Perry being new to Willow Creek , it was their first time seeing this elaborate home.
DAX- “Damn this is your house?”
JONAS- “I don’t think I have ever seen a house so huge before!”
PERRY- “I think they call this an Estate! Do you have ghosts???”
DEACON- “Not sure about ghosts, at least I have not seen any evidence of any. My Great Great Grandfather Ainsworth built this house ages ago, when my grandfather died last year he left the home to my mother in his will. It will either fall to me or my sister when my mother passes.
DAX- “Ainsworth? Your family is the Ainsworth’s?”
DEACON- “Yes, my mother was an Ainsworth before she married my Dad. They have been here in Willow Creek, almost as long as the Goth family.”
JONAS- “Well, I’m impressed! Just how rich are you Deacon!?”
DEACON- “To be honest, I really have no idea. It is all set up in trusts. Come on in, I can show you all around.”

LOGAN- “They are asking for us to take pictures. Are you in?”
DEACON- “Of course, I mean years down the road we will have to embarrass ourselves by showing our old high school homecoming photos to our kids, right?”
LOGAN- “Well you can, I am not having kids. Watcher help me if I do!!”
For prosperity’s sake.

CASSANDRA- “She is a leech, Deek. She will attach herself to you and literally drain the blood from your body.”
BELLA- “Cassandra, what and who on earth are you talking about? Darling you need not fill Deacon’s head with such nonsense.
DEACON- “It’s okay Mrs. Goth, I know she isn’t talking literally. I am used to how over-dramatic she can be sometimes.”
CASSANDRA- “Okay, suit yourself, don’t believe me. But she has only been here in this town a little longer than you, and she has waltzed in and starting knocking down the social norms of our school lives and creating her own. She is not a nice person.”
DEACON- “Maybe that isn’t a bad thing, Cass--Cassandra. I mean the cliques in the school are quite annoying if you ask me. We should knock them down and start treating everyone as equals.”
BELLA- “Quite well said Deacon. You should listen to him sometimes, Cassandra. Stop trying to be the protester and be a little quieter with your agenda.”
CASSANDRA- “Deacon, you are not understanding me. It wasn’t like this before she moved here. SHE is the one that has started this, them vs. those mentality here. She is a rich, privileged girl that expects everyone to follow what she is and what she wants. Those that don’t fit in are excluded.
BELLA- “Her father is a vet and her other father is a psychologist, I doubt they are that rich.”
DEACON- “Yes, and I honestly did not feel that way towards her. I just think she knows what she wants, and isn’t interested in how she get’s it.
CASSANDRA- “Or who she hurts.”
DEACON- “You are making her sound like my Grandmother!”
CASSANDRA- “Excellent example!”
BELLA- “Cassandra! Mrs. Ainsworth is doing a lot right now for the residents over in Founder’s Cove. I grew up over there, and I am pleased at what she is doing to help those families.
CASSANDRA- “That is all Deacon’s doing, Right Deek?”

DEACON- “To be honest it wasn’t all my idea. One of the guys I met that lives in Founder’s Cove told me that for the residents to get involved in a project like this that they needed to feel like they were part of it. Take ownership of it. So we are offering the homes at a discounted----
As Deacon continues to go about his project, Logan becomes more and more impressed with him, while Jodi is becoming extremely bored.
JODI- “Hey, listen Lo, I am going to grab a soda and head outside with Cassie here, okay?
LOGAN- “Yeah Yeah... go ahead Deacon, you were saying?”
DAX- “They say that that Citrus Punch is pretty good.”
JODI- “Not really into Citrus, thought maybe I would try the lemonade....”
DAX- “To be honest, Lemonade is a type of citrus drink, I’d say.”
JODI- “You do? And just who are you?”

LOGAN- “So this has been wonderful, Deacon. Being crowned Homecoming Queen was just the icing on the cake, wouldn’t you agree?”
DEACON- “Yes, it was, but not unexpected.”
LOGAN- “True, I kind of knew I would be. So, I think we compliment one another quite well. We should make it official.”
DEACON- “Make what official?”
LOGAN- “Why, Us. A couple. I mean we are both very attractive and popular. And everyone has seen us together. I have had several comments about how good we look together. So what do you say?”
DEACON- “As I agree, we do compliment one another very well, Logan, but I am not about all of this popularity stuff. I am not going to date someone just to appease everyone else and to make myself look good, or whatever. I like you. But, I am not ready to make anything official with anyone. I have my school work to keep up with, plus the projects my grandmother will surely have for me. I didn’t think you were really interested in having a “boyfriend”. I thought we both were in agreement with us just being friends?”
LOGAN- “Well..... when you put it like that.”

DEACON- “Just because someone is gay or bi- or however they identify as, doesn’t mean they can’t go to a school dance with a friend, Logan. That doesn’t make them weird.”
LOGAN- “Oh, no I know, I didn’t mean that at all, One of my fathers is gay and the other is bi, and my birth mom is a lesbian, I have no problems with people being who they are, I just have known these two a while, and trust me when I say they are weird.”
JAMIE- “And many people say that you are a bitch.”
LOGAN- “Who are you calling a bitch, Jamie? I don’t think so, just because I speak my mind doesn’t make me a bitch! If a guy said the same things, you’d think he was a bad ass. But because I am woman, I am a bitch.
DEACON- “Whoa, calm down. Logan, please. He didn’t call you anything, he said others said that...I am not really into conflict and drama. So what about you?”
LOGAN- “What about me?”
DEACON- “Need a date to the dance?”
JAMIE- “Yeah, Logan what about it, do you?”
LOGAN- “No, I currently do not have a date.”
DEACON- “Well, if you don’t mind going to the dance with me, I would like to take you.”
LOGAN- “Really?”
DEACON- “Yes, really.”
LOGAN- “So you don’t think of me as a bitch?”
DEACON- “Not in the least. I think you are very strong-willed and opinionated. I like that about you... so yes or no?”
LOGAN- “Yes, I would love to go with you, Deacon.”

As I began to explain the how, she sat back in her executive chair and was silent and listened intently to what I had to say.
DEACON- “Sell the properties as they are, but at a discounted price or offer them a renovation mortgage so that they can actually own it. Of course with stipulations, like having the work completed in a certain time frame, or maybe a tax adjustment or abatement until after the work is completed or a set time period. Have one person work with them as a real estate agent that would do each transaction, someone they can trust. Then provide them a company of our choice to use for the renovation work. Not Uncle Simon’s of course, someone from the area. They can place bids for the jobs. The businesses that are there we could offer them a rehab loan to fix and clean their places up, and those that are vacant, like your grandfather’s shop we can replace or renovate new businesses at those locations so that it doesn’t effect the zoning. Actually allow the residents that want to and are stable financially own it. Then all the residents will be more apt to take pride and ownership and be more responsible to keep things up.”
I continued to explain my ideas and even the types of stores and businesses I thought would work there. Once I finished she was silent for what seemed like for ever, then she slowly moved up to her desk and leaned over towards me. When she spoke, it at first startled me as she almost shouted my name.
BEATRICE- “Deacon Mahone!!... You are a natural at this, you truly are. I am more than impressed, son. Your grandfather was right about you. This sounds like the perfect solution. I know your uncle will not agree, but he doesn’t matter. I will talk to your mother soon, have her renew her real estate license, as I want her to work with you on this as the agent. Then we need to advertise these properties and draw up contracts regarding the rehab and request interested local contractors to bid. Awww Son, this is marvelous! I am so excited. We need to get on this IMMEDIATELY!
Then she stood as I stood, and she came towards me and took me into her arms.
That was definitely the most awkward hug I had ever had in my life, but as I reached in to hug her in return I saw my grandfather’s portrait on the wall. I felt like he would have been happy with this. For a moment I thought I even seen his portrait smile back at me.

So finally the big Homecoming day arrived, and the big dance was held in WCH gymnasium. The homecoming committee decorated the gym in fall decor and some of the students dressed to the max in suits and formals. Others just came as they were. Logan seemed to be really enjoying her evening with Deacon. She was not about to let Cassandra Goth intimidate her!
DEACON- “You look very pretty tonight, Logan. I mean, not that you are not pretty every day, but tonight you look exceptionally pretty.:
LOGAN- “Thank you Deacon. You are quite dashing yourself. Did you know we both have been nominated as homecoming King and Queen? Wouldn’t that be something? Two of the newest students named King and Queen.”
DEACON- “You might be named as their Queen, but I doubt I will be King. No one really knows me.”
LOGAN- “I am your date. Trust me Deacon, they know you now. So you want to dance?
DEACON- “Not sure how good I am going to be, but sure...”
As they danced, Perry looked on. Waiting for a moment to step in and ask Logan for a dance.

They next morning I called my Grandmother’s office and told her that I had some ideas, and she agreed to meet me later that afternoon and to come to her office. She would let the front desk know to let me come up.
I arrived at the scheduled time and was greeted at the front desk but a valet I suppose you would call him and escorted to the fifth floor to my Grandmother’s office. This was my first time here, and I was impressed by what I saw. No expense was spared in this building or it’s furnishings. Everything was up to date and new. Almost all the offices I saw were large and decorated monochromatically. The valet or whoever he was, led me to the door of my grandmother’s office and said very officially, “Mr. Mahone, you may enter.” Which I did and there she was sitting behind a large black desk. Behind her were a complete wall of windows overlooking the entire town of Willow Creek. You could even see founder’s cove in the northern distance. She wasted no time getting to her point.
BEATRICE- “Well, Deacon, what are your ideas? I have very little time, I have a video conference in twenty-five minutes. So go,”
DEACON- “I think the main idea for the area is to not destroy what is there. Renovate would be less obtrusive to the residents. Most of them have lived there their entire lives and this is their home. But right now they don’t feel any ownership or responsibility for it. They need to be made to feel that this is exactly what it is, their home. Let them take pride in their heritage”
BEATRICE- “Okay, and how do we give them that feeling of ownership and being part of this process.”
